I don't trust people who pretend that Dual Destines and Spirit of Justice don't exist. Because by missing them you miss some really good shit such as
The entire character of Athena Cykes
Her backstory. Much more interesting and compelling than whatever was Apollo in his debut game up to
Blackquill siblings
Athena Cykes
Rayfa Padma Khura'in, this cute little button
New game mechanics. Mood Matrix for one looks nifty imo
Also the new lawyer character who uses it, Athena Cykes!
Apollo Justice actually has a character arc there!
Did I mention Athe *gets shot*

phoenix wright making apollo justice present forged evidence is, as rightfully rage-inducing as it is, also perfectly understandable and even justifiable to an extent. in this essay i will not cut my introduction off with an old-fashioned tumblr punchline and will actually elaborate on why i think so and what i think about phoenix wright in general.
the first few paragraphs will be rather surface-level, but bear with me: i'm writing this in one breath. it has already been established that the change in phoenix's character was so big and shocking that the fandom is still actively discussing it and making theories. i have seen people compare his sprites with mia and diego, kristoph and miles, yanni yogi and many others, and every single on of them is, in in my opinion, correct: there are actual similarities between them, intentional or not. i believe it can all be explained with two simple statements. one: phoenix is a sponge of a man. even before aa4, we frequently see him adopt mannerisms and figures of speech from the people he encounters. he learns, he absorbs, he changes, but only for a short while, as he stays true to his motivations, passions and drive. two: the seven years of being watched by kristoph and collecting data made him turn to that mimicking quality of his and use it as a weapon. phoenix wright could not afford to reveal his true motivations, therefore, he could not reveal what he was in general. it's a simple metaphor, really.
did he get lost in the deceptions somewhere along the way? absolutely. "what tangled webs we weave when we practice to deceive", a line said by him about kristoph, can easily be applied to phoenix. this is where the bloody ace comes in. incidentally, he is given the idea by zak: he is the one who says one can't win unless there's a ace up their sleeve, and, no matter how much of an influence that particular phrase had on wright, he follows the principle. here is phoenix's first motive for forging the ace: insurance. without concrete, dooming evidence, a trial could not end in his favor at the time. phoenix wright, post-disbarment, is no longer a man who relies on bluffs and "just believing in the client", he is strongly dissapointed in the system, outraged, offended, hurt, wounded, and he does not trust it at all, hence the dirty tricks. you can't just play fair against something unfair and win.
what i find far more interesting however, are his other motives. if the only thing that drive him to forgery was distrust and carefulness, he would have shared the plan with apollo or, perhaps, done something similar to the turnabout succession trial, where the letter is shown to the culprit, but never submitted as evidence and quickly admitted as a fake. really, i believe he is smart enough to find other ways. however, he doesn't. he gives the ace to apollo in a very specific way: through trucy wright, not a word of proper explanation. why is that? he is teaching apollo a lesson.
clearly, something about apollo reminds phoenix of himself. a young, bright, nervous mind, fighting for the truth and justice, full of belief, a little naive. phoenix knows what that naivety cost him, and he destroys it right away, because then it will hurt less, he thinks. the forged ace is a vaccine of sorts: you will experience some minor symptoms, but no actual serious consequences, and it will hurt for a moment, but for the rest of your life, you will never catch that sickness again. phoenix is already planning the jurist system reform and has already planned how this trial will go: the environment is controlled and safe for apollo, he will not get disbarred. if the truth is revealed later, under the new system, surely apollo won't be receiving the same harsh punishment wright did. so here you go, kid, learn your lesson, punch a lawyer or two in the face, and never ever, ever trust anyone like that ever again.
but wait, if the truth does get revealed, who will be receiving the punishment for it? of course, the man who forged the evidence, phoenix wright. here comes the third reason: punishment.
remember the class trial? young phoenix wright, blamed for a crime he didn't commit, overwhelmed and crying. what does the abandoned child do when the whole class accuses him of stealing? he stands up slowly and comes up to the kid with the grey hair to apologize for the money he stole but did not steal. he admits it. it doesn't matter what the truth is anymore, because if everyone thinks you did it, you might as well have.
you might as well do it again, for real this time, and maybe a weight will fall off your shoulders, because what you see in yourself will finally match the image the whole world has of you.
phoenix wright is working on the jurist system. phoenix wright is a father and phoenix wright is someone who will do his best to put kristoph gavin to jail. that doesn't mean phoenix wright sees any other use or future for himself. it simply does not matter. well, by the end of the first case, anyway.
he gathers more evidence. he thinks, a lot. he gives apollo advice on the cases, inevitability reminiscing. the new system is a success. in a new, better world, maybe he will take some piano lessons: he has grown tired of pretending he can play. he has grown tired of pretending in general. hell, maybe he will even take the bar exam again.

I for one would like to hear your telltale thoughts 👀👀
Tumblr media
ok!!! i am going to try my hardest to explain what i think. but be warned that a lot of this is going to be speculative. but then again. it's aa4 🥴
putting this under the cut bc it's long. i think. idk i'm typing this on mobile
so! to start us off, aside from the obvious (murder lol /j), there's one really big thing the protagonist and kristoph have in common, which is that no one really knows what their motives are. The story’s protagonist says they loved the old man. The line “I think it was his eye! Yes, it was this!” (lol) uses hedging as well, so they’re not even sure of it themselves. Kristoph’s black psychelocks appear when you ask him why he killed zak gramarye, implying he’s buried the reason so deep in his subconscious he doesn’t even know it’s there in the first place. So that’s another thing they have in common: they’re not sure what their motives are for murder.
They do have something more (and this is where we get into speculative territory). There’s this underlying paranoia in both of the characters, that I like to think is part of their ~mysterious~ motive. More specifically, it’s a fear of being watched. Again, tell-tale’s protagonist with the eye, referenced after the line where they'd speculated it might had been the eye: "One of his eyes resembled that of a vulture — a pale blue eye, with a film over it. Whenever it fell upon me, my blood ran cold; and so by degrees — very gradually — I made up my mind to take the life of the old man, and thus rid myself of the eye forever." Then Kristoph’s suspicions that someone had watched him right back all those years after the Gramarye trial. Maybe kristoph killed zak gramarye because he was the most obvious connection to the case that would drag kristoph’s name through the mud. I mean, who knows what trucy’s told zak. She could easily connect kristoph and the diary page she’d given to her dad’s lawyer.
(unrelated but I also think phoenix’s trial could possibly be a step into getting rid of trucy as well. befriend her dad who is conveniently the lawyer you’d gotten disbarred via fake evidence, kill a man (most likely unplanned), pin it on him (most likely planned right after the unplanned thing), get a greenhorn attorney to do the dirty work for you and blame the guilty verdict on incompetence (happened by convenience), then you know. a girl is left vulnerable without a guardian. there’s some mvk-edgeworth shit that could go on here if this worked out. probably)
if we were to assume that it really was the eye that had caused the protagonist to kill the old man in the first place, then another key similarity about them and kristoph is that eyes were their undoing, what caused them to take a life, or in poe's words: rid themselves of the eye forever. In Kristoph's case, this 'eye' was two things. The first is phoenix keeping him close all these years, watching him, knowing all along that kristoph had been behind his disbarment all those years ago (in the drawing, this is represented by the camera, aka the pin on phoenix's beanie, which is why it's pulled over his eye, just to make it more like the old man, with his one big, creepy eye). The second is apollo, his powers that he'd discovered at the advent of kristoph's drawn-out fall, because his bracelet is primarily tied to SEEING those lies (seeing the tension, if we want to be fussy about it. and i will be. because we all know how i am about the bracelet)
sort of unrelated tangent, but my school had this "living museum" held by the theater club every year and let me tell you it was a Hit 😎 (our theater club was popular yeah) anyway. they had a different author every year, and the year they did poe they chose to show telltale heart through the pov of the eye and the heart. and idk. the heart just stuck with me. i'm p sure that the beating heart in the story was the protag's own anxious beating heart that they imagine to be the old man's instead. it's not an exact parallel, but the magatama was used in the investigation into phoenix's disbarment, and the magatama is connected to the heart, blah blah blah, so i used it in the drawing because the heart. because it looked cool B) now that i think about it, it's kind of ironic—it's a tell-tale heart, revealing information, betraying the protagonist's guilt, and ultimately the beating of it caused them to reveal their crimes in the finale. Kristoph's heart held secrets so close he'd buried it even from himself. that's saurrrrr funnay 🥴
the last thing i'd like to point out was that the reveal was done to three officers. and i just thought it was so fitting kristoph was before three people as well when his crimes were implicated. which is why trucy, apollo, and klavier were there in the background. originally, there was a second piece with their reactions to phoenix's dead body but i chose to scrap it because of kristoph's unfortunate angle. i still have the thumbnail, though! you can see it here!
Tumblr media
anyway. look at this venn diagram feat the spongebob ep mermaidman and barnacleboy iv. you get it. probably

I'm becoming slowly open to being a hater of AA5. In that I want to know where the bad stuff starts. Because I actually liked the first case a lot.
Like it's fucking goofy but thats AA baby. The characterisation seems good. Athenas a ton a fun. Phoenix is trying to be the adult desperately but is being vicariously a little shit through Athena while also showing he's incredibly caring and protective for these kids he's acquired, Apollo doing the heroic thing in protecting juniper but being so much of a workoholic he reopens his fucking wounds in the process is in character. The case makes sense especially for a turtoiral where the complexity has to be limited. I like the mood matrix mechanic. The cut scenes are fine. The judge is himself and got a few laughs from me. I was genuinely shocked and worried when Apollo was attacked. Juniper is sweet, Ted isn't the best murderer ever but the tutorial case ones never are (with 2 glaring exceptions where they cheat by having them be the main villain) and the ending hook was interesting as was Athena's PTSD. Like this is around as good if not better than 1-1 and 2-1 imho. Their villians are kinda bland and ted was goofy enough to be fun. I don't like the 3d look but it's tolerable if you meet it where it's at. Like it's good I'm kinda confused where the issue is.
5-2 is feeling weird. I'm glad to see Trucy but she does seem more bland and the 3d design did her very dirty but I'm only at the very beginning.
From what I've heard of from later on Apollo kind of gets too many unpreivously referenced stuff. Which ok but I'm going to be honest that feels like it's maybe more an AA4 issue? Don't get me wrong I loved that game and I love Apollo as a character but there's very little to work with after it. There's the sibling twist which does need addressing (I'm aware they don't) and his mentorship with Kristoph but, I'd Apollo always felt like the one who Kristoph had the least bad infulence on. Like Klavier is a very explicit victim of emotional abuse and Trucy and Phoenix's lives were destroyed by the guy. Apollo while still negatively impacted felt like the one who could get over it the easiest. Then there's his rocky relationship with Phoenix which, like the ending of AA4 kind of implies he started to understand that especially with how he talks about him in court. Does it happen off screen? Yes. The lack of wanting to repeat information after the mason section (objectively a great section) means we never really get his reaction to learning that Phoenix didn't forge evidence and that he didn't give up on the law and was just biding his time. We don't see it but from how he talks during the final trial day it's pretty clear his opinion of him increases a lot when he realised what Phoenix was actually doing and actually going through. I'm actually going to make a post about how I'd fix that tbh. But yeah. I just feel like this game had to build on something with very little left to build on.

Trophy husband au
Miles loves his fancy outfits and crop tops and tight pants. Fashion is important to him, and he takes a lot of pride in his appearance. He thinks there's a lot one can do with the right outfit.
A smart suit could impress von Karma's friends. A fishnet top got him free dinner the week von Karma cut off his cards for frivolous spending. When he was in Europe, hiding from Phoenix and not quite ready to face anyone, he found the perfect pair of jeans that ended up on the floor of multiple apartments while Miles tried distracting himself with warm bodies against his.
His best fur coat and a tight shirt got Kristoph Gavin to underestimate him and pulled the truth out of him only a few days after Phoenix was accused of forging evidence.
And that's where it ended. Because Phoenix got his badge back, but there was a little girl in the house. And he needed to look better for her and for everyone who could see them. Who could judge them. Who could think that a man who dressed in such a way shouldn't have a kid.
So he packs up the crop tops and tight pants and transparent blouses, and he goes shopping. Which would usually bring him joy.
He thinks about his father, and he buys the same thick sweaters he remembers cuddling up to on winter evenings. He buys slacks and sensible shoes. He even visits his tailor to tell him that he'd like a new suit--something black, preferably.
He finds muted colors and earth tones. Dark reds that evoke a totally different feeling than the bright red he usually wore out. Greys and blues. He draws the line at brown. He can't be caught dead in brown.
The first day he wears a new outfit--a nice pair of slacks, a warm sweater--Phoenix looks at him funny. Trucy asks why he looks so different. Miles says it's not important. She should finish her breakfast so he can take her to school.
He does the morning drop off, and when he comes back home, ready to curl up on the couch and try to feel normal in his new clothes, Phoenix is still there. The office can wait a little longer.
"Why are you dressed like that?"
"Like what?"
"Like you work in a bank."
"I just thought it was about time I start dressing my age."
"You're 26. You're dressing way above your age."
Phoenix pulls it out of him eventually. Miles doesn't want Trucy to have a hard time making friends. The other parents gave him dirty looks the first time he walked Trucy to the front doors of the school.
He thinks it's time he's honest with himself. He's not some trophy husband that can be coquettish forever. If he wants people to look at him like he's a mature, smart man, he's going to need to change. At some point, he's going to need to act like an adult and act like a parent.
"If that's what you want to do, I support it," Phoenix says. "But I didn't marry someone who dresses a certain way because he cares about how soccer moms--who probably have chunky highlights--look at him every morning."
Miles is quiet. "They did have chunky highlights. And they were wearing Lululemon."
"Ugh. Lululemon?"
"They want everyone to know they don't care about their appearance enough to put on a decent outfit, but they want everyone to know that they can afford mid-tier athletic wear."
"Yeah?"
"It's embarrassing. It makes them look desperate and like they have no sense of unique style."
"They probably don't have any unique style."
"They wear whatever blogs they follow tell them to wear."
Phoenix smiles. "Think about if you really want to change, Miles."
And the next morning, Miles wears a tight button-up shirt with tight jeans, and he thinks, passing by the women giving him looks, it's a compromise.

alright i just beat spirit of justice and this is gonna be long and full of spoilers
tldr: lots of missed opportunities, i love apollo, and maya and athena got done dirty.
i think my biggest take away was that it felt like a missed opportunity. cases 1-3 were rather boring and case 4, which i liked, felt like a dlc case. case 5 was incredible, i liked that it deviated from the norm in its structure and leaned heavily in the visual novel aspect of the game in the first section, as well as how we got to see the WAA taking a case other than criminal law. i also liked that they did away with the twist villain. we already knew ga'ran was an antagonistic force so her reveal felt less like a twist and more like a breakdown. which was a good change of pace from the previous game(s).
apollo is my favorite ace attorney character, and i think this could have been ace attorney: apollo justice 2. particularly in regards to the final case, but also the magical turnabout. when a theme in the game is found family vs blood relatives it could have been a great time to reveal how apollo and trucy are half siblings, which could then cause more turmoil at the end when apollo has to choose being the WAA and kura'in. because choosing between work and your fathers legacy is kinda lame the way the game posed it. if they presented it as family vs family, it leaves the door open for further character growth from apollo.
one trend that i am really getting bored of is when culprits have a heel faced turn where they change their appearance. mannerisms makes sense, but a whole change in aesthetic is getting boring. between means (who i think was the first? i dont remember any earlier than dual destinies), the phantom, andistan'dhin, bonny/betty (to a degree), amara and ga'ran, the trend has been beaten to death. it also dehumanizes the characters who do it. thinking about means, who i think is the most disappointing case of this, and how he gets the mohawk. which 1, doesnt make sense for the established character and 2 doesnt align with the theme hes supposed to represent as a teacher and his desire for order. it makes him less compelling as a real person compared to say, april may who has a similar facade of rather pleasant but trying to hide her true feelings and anger. so when she snaps, it feels more authentic in how we can anticipate it coming with both her words and her expression instead of only one.
i also just think spider motifs are cool and i want gar'an to have them in her royal attire too, even if subtle, instead of just her prosecutor wear.
another thing that disappointed me was how so many of the female characters didnt feel like they did anything. athena was treated so poorly, she gets one case (no dlc case afaik) and its a filler and is co-counsel in the other filler case. shes treated better than trucy, but not by much. i was really disappointed that she got the gallery treatment in the final trial, she is supposed to be a main character and yet she got pushed to the wayside. but the character who got treated the dirtiest was maya. she plays the role of the sexy lamp. the accused in one case that she isnt present for most of it because shes unconscious by channeling. and shes kidnapped in another. im sick of maya being accused of murder, although when she starts being defensive in the 5th case about possibly being accused i thought that was a charming nod to how often she is accused. i liked that ema was back, of all the unchanged character designs from aa 1-4 i think she translates best into the 3ds style (trucy, apollo and klavier do not look like themselves). i thought emas relationship with nahyuta was interesting and i was happy to see her back from aa4.
i know a big gripe people have with the game is the colonial/imperialist undertones which i do see. i however think they werent intentional but the writers were aware of them and tried to minimize it as much as possible while keeping to the theme of revolution and succession in the game. namely in how it was never the japanese/american characters who lead the ideas of revolution, and for much of the game, seemed rather neutral to it and had to be pulled into support of the revolution. they could have explicitly made jove kurainese and that would minimize some of the backlash from the colonial themes and the overall "whiteness" of the ace attorney games (i know pheonix is japanese but no other character has a canonical ethnicity and everyone else in the main cast is very light skinned) and i know im rambling at this point but i think the revolution could have been handled with more grace.
the biggest highlight of the game was rayfa. i generally like bratty characters and she was no exception. watching her grow throughout the game was very sweet and she reminds me a lot of franziska with her brave face and how she deals with the expectations others have put onto her. i really liked her relationship with pheonix and how she grew rather attached to him. her desperation in the final case reminded me of the final case of dd and apollos desperation to be proven wrong. i wish we got to see more of her and apollo interact outside of just the final case because i think they would butt heads a lot but care a lot for each other, like siblings.
this is getting really long and its 2am so i dont know how much of this actually makes sense and i probably have more thoughts but im gonna leave it here for now

“You know. As much as I’m not a fan of Khura'in’s weather, it sure beats L.A summers. Like seriously! At least in Khura'in I can add layers, I don’t know what to do here,” Ema shoved a handful of snackoos in her mouth. L.A’s heat bothered her more the more time she spent in Khura’in and she was not a fan.
“I do not find the weather as painful as you claim.”
She glared at him, “How are you wearing a coat?” Her face turned into a look of disgust as she eyed his coat.
“As I said, the heat doesn’t bother me.” Prosecutor Sahdmadhi turned and began walking towards their hotel. Once he turned his back, she threw a small handful of snackoos at him.
“Weirdo,” she grumbled. “Can we at least grab a cab?”
---
The foyer was empty except for the secretarys sitting at their desks. Simon had finally managed to get his hands on a case, he was thankful he didn’t have to do the extra paperwork anymore. Klavier had some music business to attend to, apparently he was trying to set up a solo tour. At least according to the tabloids, he hadn’t actually said anything to anyone other than Edgeworth. Edgeworth was in a meeting from ten until noon, then one until four. He hadn’t said what they were about, and no one could really bring themselves to care, they were probably boring. Apollo had picked up another case with the hopes it would go better then his last one, and the rest of the WAA was in court.
Prosecutor Sahdmadhi had gone to pick up his case file, which Edgeworth had left for him up front. Meanwhile, Ema had decided to pay the precinct a visit, there were some people she missed. They were going to meet halfway at a burger joint that prosecutor Sahdmadhi had chosen after much consideration. “What does it matter what the rating is?” Ema had asked when he told her to check the rating. “The only people who actually rate restaurants are people who really hated it, or people who got rewards for giving it five stars… Usually.” He’d still insisted she check the rating though.
When he got there, Ema was sitting at a table staring at the menu. He pulled out his chair and sat across from her, making her look up. He put his coat on the back of his chair not wanting to dirty it.
“I was not expecting you to arrive first,” he said, opening his menu.
“Gumshoe wasn’t in,” she said, “What do you think sounds better? Fries and a burger or potato skins and a burger?” She looked up at him.
“Potato skins? Why would you eat just the skin of a potato,” he looked confused. It was kind of funny.
“Potato skins it is!” she cheered, closing her menu. “So, who’s the defense of our case?”
“It seems Apollo Justice has taken the defense,” he sounded a little distracted. Probably putting way too much thought into what he’s getting.
Ema took a sip of her water and fanned herself. Maybe she should suggest a day at the beach before they head back to Khura’in. Beaches were one of the things she missed about L.A, the other being able to find snackoos pretty much everywhere. There only seemed to be one or two stores in Khura’in that carried her beloved snacks. She briefly wondered if she could bring a box back to Khura’in.
---
Edgeworth let out a long sigh as he left the meeting room. Although he did love his job as chief prosecutor, he wasn’t the biggest fan of the meetings. Especially ones on days like today where the temperature was around sixty-six degrees fahrenheit (nineteen degrees celsius). Draping his coat over his arm, he made his way to the foyer.
“I’ll be stepping out for lunch. If people begin arriving for the next meeting before I return, direct them to meeting room A,” he said to the receptionist before turning to the door.
“Sir, your lunch is in your office.” He stopped.
“Pardon?” He turned back to the receptionists.
“Your lunch is in your office, you have a guest as well. Prosecutor Sahdmadhi also came by and collected the case report,” the receptionist said, before turning back to his work.
“I don’t have lunch plans with anyone today.”
“They said you didn’t need plans to have lunch together,” the other receptionist smiled.
Confused, Edgeworth took the stairs up to his office. Sometimes, usually days like this, he wished he could stomach the elevator. When he got to his office, he opened it carefully. Obviously if the receptionists didn’t know the person, they wouldn’t be sent up, but you could never be too careful. That was especially true with his and Wright’s track record, it seemed whenever they got involved nothing was as it seemed.
Once he opened the door, his questions about his guest vanished. Spinning in circles in his chair was Sky. She stopped when she saw him and reached for something on the floor. She put a bag on his desk and pulled out two containers. Already on the desk were two iced teas from Starbucks, although he normally just got normal tea, he was thankful she’d brought him something iced.
“I figured I’d make your life easier by bringing you lunch,” she smiled. He sat down in the chair across from her and took one of the containers.
“While the gesture is appreciated, the secrecy was unnecessary,” he smiled, opening the container. It was a sub, quick, easy, not too messy, and didn’t need to be reheated.
They sat together and enjoyed Miles’s lunch hour in peace with the fans in his office on. If today was this hot, he was not looking forward to tomorrow.
---
“Daddy, can I go get a drink from the vending machine?” Trucy whined.
They were taking a quick recess, so Trucy and Wright were sitting in the defendants lobby. Wright was shuffling through papers and Trucy was sprawled out on the couch. Despite there being AC, the court house was big. That meant it wasn’t as cool because they couldn’t have it up too high. It would be too expensive if they kept it at full power, it was the same with the precinct and prosecutor’s office. Wright wondered what would happen tomorrow if they got the heat wave the weather was calling for.
“Sure. Can you grab me something too?” He looked up at her. She was already by the door, hadn’t she been beside him a second ago?
“Yep!”
---
“Y’know you’d probably be waaayyy more comfortable if you took your coat off,” Kay chirped as she followed Simon around his crime scene.
Sebastian didn’t need her, and Trucy had bailed on magic practice last minute, something about the case getting interesting. So she decided to tail Simon instead of sitting around doing nothing. Of course it may have had something to do with the Taka. The bird in question was currently being fed by Kay while he sat on her shoulder. Simon had agreed she could hold him if she sat still, it was a win win.
“I am perfectly fine Faraday-chan,” he grumbled. He was not in fact “perfectly fine” and was actually sweating pretty bad. However, he had nowhere to put his coat so he just had to live with it. Thankfully, the majority of their investigation was inside and they were just about done outside.
---
“Find anything important yet pal?” Detective Gumshoe called down to him.
He was currently shuffling around in a mucky ditch looking for evidence. This meant he was in a raincoat and rubber boots which weren’t the most comfortable in this heat. He’d wanted to leave this until the very end, but by then the water could have washed away evidence. The smell was no help either, it smelt like something had died in the water. Maybe a skunk, it smelt bad enough.
“Nothing. I’m about ready t-” he had turned around to Gumshoe and stepped forwards. When he stepped, he heard a disgusting squishing sound and maybe a crack. He sunk just enough for the water in the ditch to flood his boot and he cringed. “Words can not express how disgusting I feel right now,” he said through gritted teeth.
“You okay pal?”
“I think I’m done investigating for a bit. I need to change my socks… and pants… and I think I’ll take a shower while I’m at it.” He pulled himself out of the ditch and grumbled as he sloshed towards the road to hail a cab home.
---
“Trucy!” Athena called from the top of the stairs.
Trucy was standing by the bottom of the stairs doing some card tricks for a small crowd. From what she’d heard, they hadn’t received a verdict yet, but things were looking pretty good for the defense. On her end, it wasn’t as clear. She had been able to create some doubt about her clients guilt, but still nowhere near enough to get a not guilty verdict. Trucy had offered to help look around her crime scene, after all two pairs of eyes were better than one.
Just as she was about to reach the bottom, she missed a step and tumbled the rest of the way down. She could see Trucy cringe as she hit the ground.
“All good!” Athena cheered, hopping up.

“We’re going to the beach tomorrow?!” She exclaimed. “Yay!” She jumped on him and threw her arms around his neck.
“Jeez,” he let out a chuckle, “Are you two telepathic or something?”
She sat back beside him and stuck her tongue out and pulled out her phone, “I’m gonna let everyone know!”

YESSS ACE ATTORNEYYYY i have so many thoughts but i never talk about it lol
blorbo (favorite character, character I think about the most)
honestly maya i REALLY love her shes so fun but also has a deep story but sadly newer games denied her a character arc in so much as growing up (not that she cant still be goofy but there should be a difference between her being like 15 and 23) but yes really good choice to have her as your companion in most of the cases
but also shes my blorbo in the way i think wayyy to much about the whole implications of the fey clan and the overarching plot of the first 3 games
also also FRANMAYA NATION
scrunkly (my “baby”, character that gives me cuteness aggression, character that is So Shaped)
PEARLY shes everything wah wah wah wah wah i love that she gets to be a rowdy little girl yess violence yess running 40 miles in sandals yesss slapping phoenix wright!!!!! her relation to deliah and iris is also soooo interesting to me!!
she was also done dirty by the newer games but i know she still visits all the time and she and trucy are besties on sight!!!!
scrimblo bimblo (underrated/underappreciated fave)
MIA i cant believe she had to die BC SHE DIDNT NEED TO u couldve introduced spirit chancelling w/o killing her ok!!! i feel like shes every lesbians fave but truly the power she had. her design she had a motorcycle she was a great bigger sister her leaving the clan to become a lawyer her picking up phoenix wahhh thinking about it all sooo hard also her and lana were fucking in college i dont make the rules
i also wanna add franziska here bc ive only mentioned feys up until now but lol what can i say that hasnt been said before the perfect way to built on edgeworth and the von karma debacle epic design epic catchphrases cool wip a women w character arc in a capcom game who wouldve thought also as a german i love how spot on her horse girl name is like i know AT LEAST 5 franziskas that are exactly like her i know shes also a tumblr favourite but every dude bro ace attorney player hates her lollll sorry shes not for you
glup shitto (obscure fave, character that can appear in the background for 0.2 seconds and I won’t shut up about it for a week)
THE DELITES ok theyre so epic and the definition of malewife and girlboss its sooo epic:) ok theyre not really small parts so ill also say officer meekins bc my brother and me would always loose our minds on his parts we thought the feedback from his microphone was the funniest thing in the entire world and we were right
poor little meow meow (“problematic”/unpopular/controversial/otherwise pathetic fave)
not at all controversial but i need to say apollo for poor little meow meow bc he literally is ok

horse plinko (character I would torment for fun, for whatever reason)
redd white bc he killed mia and deserves to suffer for that ohh also the gross producer from turnabout samurai
eeby deeby (character I would send to superhell)
klavier gavin but only bc capcom already did this to him and i think it would be funny also hes fruity enough to be happy in superhell

how sweet it is (to be loved by you)
summary: Although he would never admit it, Apollo really wants to impress Klavier by making dessert from scratch for their first date at his apartment, despite his complete lack of baking experience. With the help of his overenthusiastic sister (and no help from his mischievous cat), Apollo thinks he just might be able to pull it off.
word count: 4.8k | read on ao3
a/n: For @klapollo-week, day four of seven (prompt: "cooking"). All seven of my fics take place in the same continuity! However, each can be read as a stand-alone, with the exception of day seven being a sequel to day five.
This fic takes place at some distant point in time after Spirit of Justice where Apollo and Trucy have learned that they’re siblings, but doesn’t reference any specific plotlines otherwise. Fic title is from the song How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You) by Marvin Gaye.
“Don’t look at me like that, okay? I can feel you judging me, and I don’t appreciate it. I swear, I-I know what I’m doing! But it doesn’t help with you staring at me like you just know I’m gonna screw up!”
Mikeko blinked. “Mreow.”
“Polly, are you talking to your cat again?” Apollo turned to see Trucy walking towards him with huge bags of flour and sugar in her arms.
“Just a reminder - his name is Mikeko, and he’s an asshole,” Apollo grouched, hurrying over to help before she could drop everything on the floor. The last thing he needed was to get white powder stuck in his kitchen tile grout, again. There was a reason Ema wasn’t allowed to bring her forensics kit to his place anymore. “He peed on my rug the other day. I thought he was sick so I took him to the vet, and nothing. He’s an asshole.”
“You talk about your cat like you talk about your boyfriend, and I dunno which one’s worse,” Trucy mused, elbowing him playfully. “Though obviously, you love ‘em both, since that cat tree over there looks like it costs more than your TV. And, y’know, the fact that you asked me to help you bake for him! Er, your boyfriend, not your cat.”
“You don’t say,” Apollo said dryly, hoisting the bags onto the kitchen counter. “Klavier has an insatiable sweet tooth for a guy with a six-pack. I blame his parents and their baking habits.”
“C’mon, you love his parents,” Trucy giggled. She hopped onto the counter, nearly knocking the flour over in the process. Apollo shot her a dirty look that she blatantly ignored. “So, what’re we making? I’m surprised you asked me to help and then didn’t tell me what we were gonna do!”
“Sorry, sorry,” Apollo sighed, smoothing out the wrinkles in his apron. “We’re making, uh...bienenstich, or bee sting cake. It’s one of his childhood favorites, apparently; it’s got vanilla cream and…” He paused to glance down at the recipe on his phone. “...‘a crunchy caramelized almond topping’.”
“Sounds yummy!” Trucy replied, idly swinging her legs back and forth. Mikeko seemed very interested in chasing her untied shoelaces. “Seriously, though, why did you ask me? I mean, when I first started living with Daddy, I learned how to cook pretty fast, but I never really learned how to bake.”
Apollo softened. “I just wanted to hang out with you, Truce. That’s all.”
Trucy folded her hands over her heart. “Aww, Polly!” She then grinned devilishly. “Of course you did.”
“Now you’re an asshole, too,” Apollo informed her, kissing her cheek before turning back to the other side of the kitchen. He stopped dead in his tracks when he saw Mikeko, sitting in his sink, lounging lazily across every last mixing bowl he’d just washed. “Mik, what the hell - you were just on the floor a second ago, you - ”
“Meow,” Mikeko interrupted, his tail swishing nonchalantly through the air.
“...cool, cool.” Apollo wiped his hands, then proceeded to lift Mikeko right out of the sink and deposit him onto his cat tree. His paws were still damp; he mewled in protest. “Well, this is going about as well as I expected.”
“I’m excited,” Trucy offered, still beaming. “Let’s go!”
_____
Once Trucy found the appropriate playlist to blast on her phone (“Any performer worth their salt knows they need good background music, Polly!” “But...this isn’t a performance. Also, this is more Maroon 5 than I’m comfortable with.”), she got to work on re-washing the dishes Mikeko had ruined while Apollo shuffled around the kitchen, grabbing the rest of the ingredients. He’d bought quite a few items he didn’t usually have in stock, having next to no experience with baking. The recipe claimed bienenstich was easy to make, though he had his doubts when it came to his abilities - and his luck.
“So, how’ve you and Klavier been?” Trucy asked, drying the last of the spatulas. “Things must be pretty good if you’re baking for him.”
“Good, definitely good,” Apollo replied. “We’ve had a couple of hiccups, but nothing we’ve had to worry about, y’know?”
“Gee, how romantic,” Trucy drawled. “I was hoping for something juicier than that, Polly! Have you had any fun dates lately? Cute moments? Nice gifts? It sure was nice of his mom to send more apple strudels to the agency the other day!”
“Are you my sister, or a tabloid reporter?” Apollo flicked a spray of flour onto the front of her apron, ducking before she could retaliate. “Well, we had a good time at his parents’ house the other day. I made pretzels with his mom, and his dad had a ton of podcast recommendations for like, nerd stuff. We, uh...we even talked about Mom for a bit. They wanna meet her someday.”
Trucy’s eyes widened. “Really? When’s that gonna happen?”
“Not sure,” Apollo admitted. “But hey, do you wanna join us when it does? They’ve been dying to meet you, too.”
“Like you have to ask!” Trucy said brightly. She took a moment to methodically spread out all of their equipment across the kitchen counter, smiling in satisfaction when she was done. “There - we’re ready to go. What’s the actual first step?”
“The dough, it says,” Apollo said, turning back to the recipe. “We’re s’posed to mix the dry ingredients and wet ingredients separately. Although I guess the actual actual first step is measuring the ingredients.”
“I’ll do dry, you do wet,” Trucy replied, passing him one of the mixing bowls. “Y’know…‘cos you're such a wet blanket and all.”
Apollo blinked. “...okay, wow. We’re here to bake a cake, not roast me.” Trucy giggled mischievously, then got to work on measuring out the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Apollo, meanwhile, started with pouring the milk - easy enough - then stared at the egg carton and sticks of butter sitting in front of him. He’d never been intimidated by either before, but right now, he found them oddly daunting.
“Polly, are you trying to perceive the ingredients or somethin’?” Trucy asked, rapping her knuckles against the side of his head a little too sharply for his liking. “The cake isn’t a lie, you know.”
Once again, Apollo found himself looking at her incredulously. “Wha - th-that joke is older than you are!” Then, a brief swish of movement over Trucy’s shoulder caught his eye. “Wait…” Sitting on the opposite counter was Mikeko, who was innocently sniffing the bag of sliced almonds. “Mik - ”
“Mrrh,” Mikeko purred, his tail perking up at the sound of his name. He then flopped onto his side, rolling over to present his belly. “Mrrh?”
“Don’t ‘mrrh’ me, get away from there,” Apollo huffed, flapping his hands in Mikeko’s direction. He seemed unmoved. “Do you want me to lock you in my bedroom? Really? Is that what we have to do?” Sighing, Mikeko got up and hopped down from the counter, sauntering off to the living room with a sulky grimace. “Thank you.”
“You really do act like he’s human,” Trucy commented, watching Mikeko go. “Mr. Edgeworth’s like that with Pess, only he’s way nicer to her than you are to Mikeko.”
“Probably because Pess doesn’t sit on his chest in the middle of the night while he's sleeping and make him think he’s having a heart attack,” Apollo said wryly, reaching for the sticks of butter. If he let them sit out for too long, they were going to start melting. “How’s that whole...thing going, anyway? I feel like Mr. Edgeworth’s been visiting the agency a lot lately...only, nothing ever seems to happen.”
“Story of their lives, according to Ema and Aunt Maya,” Trucy said, rolling her eyes exasperatedly. “At this rate, I’m gonna get married before Daddy does!” She then smirked. “Or should I say, you’re gonna get - ”
“Hey, l-let’s not get ahead of ourselves,” Apollo protested, his cheeks reddening. “How’s it going with the dry ingredients?”
“All done!” Trucy chirped, tilting her bowl slightly so he could see. “Wait, you still haven’t done the butter or eggs yet? Apollo!”
“Yeah, yeah, I was kinda busy dealing with that jerk over there.” Trucy glanced across the way to the living room; she could’ve sworn Mikeko was sticking his tongue out at them. Apollo then pushed the butter towards her. “Here - you do the butter, I’ll take care of the eggs.” The two of them worked in silence for a minute or so, the only sounds in the apartment being the crinkle of the butter’s parchment paper and the tap-tap of the eggs against the mixing bowl. It didn’t take long before their silence was broken. “...shit.”
“Eggshell?” Trucy guessed without looking up. “Sheesh, you really did need help. Here, give it to me!”
Apollo nudged the bowl in her direction, defeated, then wiped the sweat off his brow. “Damn, I didn’t think I was gonna be this bad! I made bread and pretzels with Klavier’s mom, and that went pretty well.”
“I bet it’s ‘cos she did most of the work,” Trucy teased. “Wait - Apollo, there’s more eggshell in here than actual egg!”
“I…” Apollo paused. “...have no excuses.” He then groaned. “Ugh, we still have so much left to do! This cake better be worth it.”
“It’s more like if you think your boyfriend’s worth it, and he is, isn’t he?” Trucy finished fishing out the last of the eggshells, then poked Apollo’s side with her yolk-covered finger. “So c’mon, let’s keep going. We mix them together, right?”
Apollo smiled softly. “Yeah. And hey, I’m...I’m really glad you’re here, Trucy. Thanks for helping me out.”
“It’s just baking, Polly, you don’t hafta be so dramatic,” Trucy said, though she was beaming regardless. “Now move it, or this cake’s still gonna be in the oven when he gets here!”
_____
A little over two hours later, Apollo jumped up from his couch at the sound of his doorbell. His face brightened when he saw Klavier on the other side of the door, dressed casually in an oversized hoodie and joggers. Klavier had been so particular about how he’d dressed for their first few dates that Apollo was always happy to see him in more relaxed attire. “Aren’t you a sight for sore eyes?”
Klavier raised an eyebrow. “You always greet me in the strangest ways, schatz. Did something happen, are you okay?”
Apollo let out an internal sigh of relief; Klavier had yet to notice anything off-putting at all. “No, no, I-I’m fine, just - i-it’s been a long day, and it’s good to see you. I mean, it’s always good to see you - usually good to see you, depending on what’s going on, ‘cos not gonna lie, you still pull the most inane crap in the courtroom, but, uh. It’s good that you’re here. Hi.”
Klavier’s eyebrows remained raised. “...hi. Anyway, I brought dinner and dessert.” He lifted the two bags he was carrying so Apollo could see. “As it turns out, our favorite Taiwanese place was having a promotion. Spend thirty dollars or more, we get free tofu pudding. Achtung, I love a good deal!”
“That’s not what your bank account says,” Apollo teased. “And, er, that’s great, and we should definitely eat it while it’s fresh, but I actually made dessert for us, too.”
“Really?” Apollo was starting to think Klavier’s eyebrows were never going to come back down. “What did you make?”
“No spoilers,” Apollo said, tugging on Klavier’s sleeve. “C’mon, get in here before my neighbors spot you. I swear, I heard one of them blasting Love With No Chance Of Parole the other night. If they find out you’re my boyfriend, I’m never gonna hear the end of it.”
“Finally starting to recognize my songs, are you?” Klavier chuckled, stepping into Apollo’s apartment. “I’ll make a Gavinners fan out of you yet, baby.” He then looked around, curious, as he took off his shoes. “Your place doesn’t look nearly as bad as you made it sound. It’s...charming.”
“Real diplomatic way of saying it looks like crap,” Apollo said wryly, closing the door behind him. He was well aware of his peeling wallpaper and cat-scratched furniture, his dusty windows and his water-damaged ceiling. “Wait until you have to use my bathroom. I swear the sink is haunted.”
“How comforting.” Klavier’s eyes lit up at the sound of tiny little feet padding over in his direction; he crouched down so he could be at eye level, one hand outstretched to beckon him closer. “Why, guten tag, kätzchen! I’m so glad I finally get to meet you.” Mikeko stopped dead in his tracks, eyeing Klavier up and down warily. Then, without another sound, he turned and walked away, tail swishing pointedly in the air. Klavier looked up at Apollo dejectedly. “Ach, what did I do?”
“Mikeko only likes me and tolerates Trucy,” Apollo shrugged, trying not to laugh at Klavier’s miserable expression. “I wouldn’t take it personally. C’mon, let’s eat!”
“I’m going to take it a little personally,” Klavier muttered under his breath, following Apollo across the open living space. It wasn’t long before they were set up at the dining table, working their way through their Taiwanese beef noodles, fried chicken, and scallion pancakes. Apollo hummed happily as he ate; he hadn’t realized how hungry he was or how difficult baking could be until now. “So, how was your day?”
“Didn’t do much,” Apollo said, shrugging. “Since it’s my day off, I just kinda - y’know, played video games, watched some TV. Re-organized my bookshelf for the millionth time. I still haven’t decided if my brain likes it organized by author, title, genre, or color.”
“You also made dessert, apparently,” Klavier replied. “Are you really not going to tell me what it is?”
“Curiosity killed the cat, and even though my cat’s an asshole, I prefer him alive,” Apollo said, playfully nudging Klavier’s leg with his foot. “You can wait thirty minutes, can’t you?”
“Ach, the suspense,” Klavier laughed. “Fine, fine. Can I at least ask why you decided to bake for us?”
“It’s the first time you’ve been to my place, so I figured I’d do something nice,” Apollo said, sniffing very slightly. The smell of burnt sugar was starting to waft into his nose; he crossed his fingers underneath the table in the hopes that Klavier couldn’t smell it, too.
“Er - are you okay, Apollo?” Klavier asked, lowering his chopsticks. “You’re...sniffling. I didn’t accidentally bring some pollen in here, did I?”
“Sniffing, not sniffling,” Apollo corrected. “There’s a difference. And nah, it’s nothing. Just wasn’t sure if Mik might’ve peed somewhere...as he does.”
“Ah, cats,” Klavier said, nodding sagely. “Don’t tell your kätzchen I’m more of a dog person, bitte. We’re already off to a bad start as it is.”
“Brave of you, saying that out loud,” Apollo remarked. “If Mik comes after you in your sleep tonight, don’t say I didn’t warn you.” Klavier turned to look at Mikeko, who was currently on the kitchen counter, scarfing down his dinner. He lifted his head to make direct eye contact, chewing menacingly all the while. Klavier shuddered. “How about you, what were you up to today?”
“The most boring prosecutor’s office meeting ever, not that that’s anything new,” Klavier sighed, turning back to face Apollo. “And I had no cases to prosecute, so I spent my day wishing I was here instead. Even if you and Mikeko weren’t around, I’d rather watch your wallpaper die a slow death than listen to Herr Payne whine about his life while we’re all waiting for the coffee maker. I don’t see how it’s my or Herr Blackquill’s fault that he hasn’t had a raise in over ten years. If all he can brag about is making new defense attorneys cry instead of actually doing his job, then he should be grateful he still has a career to begin with, ach.”
Apollo blinked. “...huh. I guess I never really thought about the kind of office politics you have to deal with. Meanwhile, the only thing I’ve had to deal with lately is Athena nearly breaking Trucy’s finger during an arm-wrestling match.”
Klavier winced, popping a piece of chicken in his mouth. “Is that something that happens often?”
“More often than it should,” Apollo replied sagely. Klavier wasn’t sure whether to be impressed or slightly terrified.
After they finished dinner, Klavier insisted on helping Apollo with the dishes, seeing as how there was a huge pile of them in the sink, almost none of them from their dinner. Some were splattered with cake batter, others with vanilla cream. Thankfully, Apollo had already rinsed all the pans and utensils he’d used to make the topping, or else the sliced almonds would’ve given him away entirely.
“No peeking in the fridge or you’re not getting any,” Apollo warned, waving a spatula in his face.
“Are we talking about dessert, or...something else?” Klavier blinked innocently when Apollo continued to glare. “Ja, ja, I hear you.” He then paused. “Can I at least speculate? I have an educated guess.”
“You have zero patience sometimes,” Apollo complained, knocking his hip against Klavier’s, though with their height difference, it was more like his hip against Klavier’s thigh. “Let’s finish up here so you have nothing to complain about, alright?”
As they puttered around the kitchen together, Apollo had to subtly, but constantly direct Klavier away from the oven before he could see the remnants of a burnt pan still left on one of the stovetop elements; he hadn’t had enough time to completely scrub them away, though he had gotten rid of the worst of it. For once, he was grateful Klavier favored heavy scents, which seemed to be masking the smell for him.
“Mrrp.” Just as Klavier was drying the last of the plates, he felt something weaving between his ankles. “Mreow?”
“Have you changed your mind about me, kätzchen?” he asked, delighted. Mikeko aggressively smushed his face against Klavier’s calf in response. Apollo watched them both in amazement. “Is that a ja or a nein?”
“Mrrh,” Mikeko rumbled.
“Oh, this is definitely a trap,” Apollo warned. “He probably wants something from you, so don’t fall for it, Klav.”
“You talk about him like he’s an unruly witness on the witness stand,” Klavier said, amused. “He’s just a sweet little kätzchen, what could he possibly - ” Mikeko sneezed, violently.
“There it is,” Apollo sighed.
Klavier winced at the wet spot Mikeko had left behind on his sweatpants. “Achtung, gesundheit!” He then chuckled, shaking his head as Mikeko wandered off, clearly pretending nothing had happened. Either that, or he was embarrassed, though Apollo suspected it was more the former than the latter. “Like human, like cat, I see; it’s allergy season all around. Is it my cologne, do you think?”
“Might be,” Apollo shrugged, wiping his hands. “Okay, you big baby, are you ready for dessert now?”
“You’re acting like I’ve talked about nothing else,” Klavier protested, wrapping his arms around Apollo from behind and burying his face against Apollo’s neck. He then began pressing slow, deliberate kisses along the length of Apollo’s throat. His nose was momentarily filled with the scent of Klavier’s aforementioned cologne, the scent of sandalwood instead of burnt sugar. “I would love to have dessert, baby.” His voice dropped to a whisper. “Then we can eat what you made after.”
“Why am I dating you,” Apollo groaned, lightly shoving him away. Klavier snickered, hopping up onto the kitchen counter. “Sheesh, you’re like a cheap Hallmark card and a bad pick-up artist at the same time.”
“Is there such a thing as a good pick-up artist?” Klavier mused, still grinning. “Anyway, I’m serious. Let’s see what you made for us, liebe.” Apollo felt oddly nervous as he opened his refrigerator and carefully pulled out the covered tray from the top shelf. He set it down on the counter, right beside Klavier, then went to grab plates, forks, and a decent-sized knife. “Ah, a knife! Was my prediction correct?”
“Can you let me live for two seconds, please?” Apollo grumbled, softening when Klavier leaned down to kiss him on the cheek. “Okay, okay, careful around the guy with the knife in his hand. I-I’m gonna take off the cover now.”
They both held their breaths just as Apollo lifted the tray cover, as overly dramatic as it sounded. The sensation was stupidly similar to how they felt during a particularly stressful trial. Klavier’s eyes widened at the sight before him. “...bienenstich?”
“Wait…” Apollo leaned closer. “...what happened?!”
The state of his bienenstich was...questionable, to say the least. To start, the caramelized almond topping, which had hardened nicely in the refrigerator earlier, now looked like it had been through an earthquake, full of little holes and fissures. The thick layer of vanilla cream between the two layers of cake was oozing out the sides, having somehow melted since Apollo put it in the fridge over an hour ago. Finally, most of the bottom layer of cake was soggy and crumbling apart, clearly thanks to the melting cream.
“You gotta be kidding me!” Apollo exclaimed, setting the knife aside and hurriedly digging his phone out of his pocket. “Here, I took a picture earlier, i-it - it looked perfect, I-I made sure of it - ”
“I’m sure it did, Apollo,” Klavier said gently, rubbing his shoulders in sympathy. “Let’s see your picture, then.”
Groaning, Apollo held his phone up to Klavier’s face. “Seriously, look. I took so many photos, I was gonna send ‘em to your parents and thank them for teaching me the basics...I even made the topping three times ‘cos I burnt the first two attempts!”
“Is that what that smell was?” Klavier shrunk at Apollo’s venomous expression. “Sorry, baby, I just - I didn’t want to say anything in case it was, you know, a weird apartment smell.” He then perked up. “But if you ask me...looks have nothing to do with taste. That goes for both food and people, apropos, though I consider myself blessed that you’re the very best of both.”
“Har, har...also, ew,” Apollo added, wrinkling his nose. “Well, let’s hope you’re right.” With renewed vigor, he picked up the knife once more and carefully cut two modest-sized pieces, transferring them to their respective plates. He passed one plate to Klavier, then, after they exchanged nervous looks, they both took their first tentative bites. “...oh.”
“See? It’s just as I said!” Klavier declared, grinning victoriously. “I’m not going to pretend it’s the most perfect bienenstich I’ve ever had, but - it’s good, Apollo. It’s really, really good. I wouldn’t have known it was your first attempt if I hadn’t seen it. Even then, it’s hardly a disaster. Just a bit, ah, lopsided.”
Apollo was quiet for another moment or so, letting the taste linger on his tongue. The texture was a bit odd, thanks to the half-melted cream and the soggy cake, but it was just as sweet and satisfying as he’d been hoping it would be. “...huh. So I guess we didn’t accidentally swap the salt and sugar like I thought we might’ve done.”
“We?” Klavier echoed as he took another bite, more generous in size this time.
“Yeah, Trucy came over to help me. Guess I forgot to mention that,” Apollo added. “We haven’t had much time to hang out outside of work stuff lately, so...I thought it’d be a fun afternoon thing. Kinda turned into a nightmare instead? Like, the smell of burnt sugar is everywhere for a reason. Don’t look inside my oven, please.”
“Don’t worry, I won’t,” Klavier laughed, delighted. “I can only imagine what went on before I got here, achtung.” It wasn’t long before he was scraping his plate clean; he was still eyeing the rest of the cake hungrily. He turned when Apollo made a mild noise of disgust. “Ah - what happened?”
“What always happens around here.” Apollo plucked a tiny, but obvious cat hair from the end of his fork. “At least I didn’t eat this one. I think I’ve consumed more cat hairs than I’ve had paying clients.” He then looked at Klavier with raised eyebrows. “You’re not expecting another piece right now, are you?”
“I like bienenstich, okay?” Klavier said defensively, though he finally got down from the kitchen counter so he could put his fork and plate in the sink, dropping a sticky-sweet kiss on Apollo’s cheek on his way over. “Danke, baby, that was really good. Can I take some back with me, bitte?”
“Of course, babe. I’m certainly not eating the rest of it by myself,” Apollo snorted, finishing off his own piece. He put his dishes in the sink, taking a moment to rinse off his and Klavier’s plates, then let out a relieved sigh. “Well, at least it tasted good, even if it looked like crap.”
“I know it’s pointless, saying this to you, but - don’t worry so much, hm?” Klavier wrapped his arms around Apollo’s midsection; before Apollo knew it, he was being lifted and set down onto the counter, right where Klavier had been. He rolled his eyes good-naturedly, bringing his hands to rest on Klavier’s shoulders, his legs wrapped loosely around Klavier’s waist. “I’m impressed, liebling, I mean it. I know Mama’s been teaching you how to bake, but for you to do it on your own time for us to enjoy...I should really step up my game here, don’t you think?”
“Hardly,” Apollo said, dropping his head to Klavier’s shoulder, pressing a kiss to Klavier’s neck. “Thanks, Klav. Glad you liked it.”
“Bitte schön,” Klavier replied, gently lifting Apollo’s chin so he could kiss him properly. They both tasted like vanilla and honey; Apollo pushed Klavier’s hair out of his face so it wouldn't run the risk of getting sticky. Mere seconds later, they were interrupted by a tiny, impudent meow. Sighing, Klavier reluctantly broke away so he could stare down at the culprit by his feet. “Can I help you, kätzchen? I thought we were cool...until you used my sweatpants as a tissue, that is. These are Moncler, I’ll have you know.”
“Mreow,” Mikeko trilled, tail thrashing violently against Klavier’s leg. Shaking his head in amusement, Apollo got down from the counter so he could pick him up and cradle him, rocking him back and forth like a baby. “Mrrp.”
“I’m kinda curious to see if he’ll let you pet him,” Apollo said. “You wanna try?” Klavier lifted a cautious hand, then slowly began petting Mikeko, taking care not to disturb the sleekness of his long, thick fur. Klavier let out a soft laugh when Mikeko began to purr, his eyes closing contentedly as he smushed his face against Klavier’s hand, just like he’d done to his leg earlier. “Hey, would you look at that - it’s a not-Christmas miracle!”
“I feel as if I’ve been blessed,” Klavier chuckled, rubbing Mikeko’s ears for good measure. “Have I passed your secret test somehow, kätzchen? Am I a good partner for your papa?” Mikeko mewled happily.
“I can’t believe you didn’t even do anything and he already likes you,” Apollo sighed. “Mik, I thought you were smarter than this.”
“I can’t tell if you want him to like me or not,” Klavier said dryly, dropping a kiss to the top of Mikeko’s forehead. Mikeko’s purr only seemed to intensify. Apollo rolled his eyes; now Klavier was just showing off. “So now that all of our bienenstich excitement is over, should we put a movie on, maybe try a small bite of that tofu pudding? I have a desperate need to cuddle after the day I’ve had.”
“Day you had?” Apollo echoed, neatly depositing Mikeko back onto his cat tree. “You said you had a boring meeting and no trials. How bad could it have been?”
“I had to listen to Herr Payne gush about his wife that definitely exists,” Klavier bemoaned, lifting the back of his hand to his forehead as if he were about to faint. Apollo was sure if he rolled his eyes any harder, he would sprain something. “Herr Debeste kept asking to borrow a pencil for some reason. I’m serious, baby, don’t laugh at me, he kept knocking on my door every thirty minutes - ”
“The only baby I see around here is you, baby,” Apollo teased, prodding Klavier in the chest. “But fine, fine, I hear you. You go sulk on the couch and pick out a movie while you wait. I'm gonna put the bienenstich back in the fridge and send your mom my pre-disaster pictures. Maybe she’ll have some advice for my next attempt.”
Klavier perked up. “Next attempt? You mean you’re going to make it again? Ah, ich liebe dich, mein schatz, mein süßer, mein - ”
“Oh my god,” Apollo groaned, sighing. “Maybe, okay? Maybe. I’m not making any promises, I don’t want my apartment to permanently smell like burnt sugar hell.” Still, Apollo found himself biting back a smile, kissing Klavier briefly before lightly nudging him in the direction of his living room. “...and I love you, too. Dork.”

a/n: Welcome to my fourth entry for Klapollo Week 2021! Continuity-wise, this is the sixth of seven fics, but again, there is no need to read the others to follow each fic on its own. Mikeko being a jerk who only likes maybe three people at a time is one of my favorite random headcanons! I know I set a lot of my fics in Apollo's apartment (or Klavier's), but one of the main reasons that I do is for Mikeko and Mikeko alone. If you're looking for a Mikeko-centric fic (kind of), if you could read my mind is one of my favorite short-ish fics that I've ever written.
Thank you so much for reading and I hope you enjoyed! Likes and reblogs would be much appreciated. Hoping you’re all safe and healthy and doing well ❤️

Requested by @snotslime2:  what about miles or phoenix trying to hide a cold from the other
:3c
There was nothing out of place that could be taken as unusual within Miles’s morning routine. Perhaps the effort he put into perfecting it in itself could be what was out of place. Had it not been his and Phoenix’s first trial as a married couple, he may have just swallowed his pride and resigned himself to a day at home, welcoming pampering from his husband with open arms.
To think he had rid himself of his habit of hiding any sign of feeling unwell years ago, when he had come to the conclusion that he needn’t continue the admittedly harmful obsession with meeting the standards of his former mentor. Just this once, he told himself. Phoenix wouldn’t notice; after all, he was so caught up in his own excitement for the trial that he almost used Pess’s brush for his hair this morning.
“Your tie is lopsided, love.” Miles adjusted his husband’s tie out of habit. He may have stopped himself if he had not already taken the precautions to ensure Phoenix wouldn’t catch anything off about his face, even up close.
“Thanks. It feels like we’ll both be making a first impression today, huh?” Phoenix stared at Miles’s face too long for the prosecutor’s liking, but said nothing.
“I believe we will, yes.” Miles chose his words carefully as a means of avoiding his voice potentially incriminating him. “Today our best foot forward is absolutely required of us.” Perfect. He could keep this up.
“You’re even more eloquent than usual today.” Was that too much? “I’ll have to follow your example in the courtroom today. Do you think there’s a fancier way to say ‘Objection?’” Phoenix chuckled.
Miles certainly hoped there was. Such a word would be off limits if he couldn’t excuse himself for some preparation beforehand.
“Shall we head to the car?” Miles was hesitant about driving to the courthouse with Phoenix in the car with him; it was terribly risky. However, it was far too cold out to have Phoenix ride his bike without possibly freezing his fingers off.
He just needed to keep both his and Phoenix’s eyes on the road for the ride there; the ride home, he could let his guard down. That was an easy goal. right?
“Hhr’rsssSHH! Hur’rrSSHH!!” Miles’s nose didn’t quite agree with the cold air let in from opening the garage door.
“Bless you.”
“Looks like we’ve let the garage get a bit dirty.”
Phoenix stared at him again. Miles really didn’t need to think of an excuse for just two sneezes, did he?
“Sounds like you’re pretty nervous about today, huh?” Yes, nervous. Of course. If that was what Phoenix concluded then that’s what Miles’s excuse shall be.
“Quite, actually.” Miles let Phoenix into the car first before sliding himself onto the driver’s seat.
“You’ll do great, even though I’m going to win.” As long as Phoenix kept up that confidence that consumed his attention for the duration of the car ride, Miles should survive this just fine until he and his husband were just far enough apart for Phoenix not to notice something was up. “I have both Apollo and Athena helping out on my side.”
Lovely. Phoenix alone could see right through Miles if he didn’t keep his guard up enough, but now Phoenix had reinforcements who could easily knock down the walls Miles was getting so comfortable behind.
The entire drive to the courthouse now involved Miles’s palms sweating against the steering wheel. He spent about as much effort and energy timing his sniffs to the crescendos of the music playing on the car radio as he did keeping an eye on the road.
“This is it, babe.” Phoenix gripped Miles’s hand tightly as soon as the two left the parked car. “We’re going to show the judge we still have it in us to face each other in court.” That depended on what ‘it’ was. “We’ve never gone easy on each other before and we won’t back down now.” Both Phoenix and Miles knew that was only a half truth, given Miles’s occasional throwing Phoenix a bone in a few notable cases.
Miles tensed up as he felt his nose run with each step, only relaxing enough to give his husband a reassuring smile.
“Boss!”
It was just Miles’s luck that he had no time to excuse himself before his husband’s protégés greeted the couple hardly a minute after entering the building.
“You two sure are early.” Phoenix smiled, pulling Miles a bit to prevent him from excusing himself silently. “I know you’re nervous, but you could be polite enough to greet the defense council. I thought you’d know better. Are you feeling alright?” He chuckled, but the joke caught Miles off guard.
“A-Apologies.” Miles stiffened and shook the hands of both Athena and Apollo. “A pleasure to have both of you here.”
“Same to you, Mr. Edgeworth.” Athena grinned. “I hope you know that just because you and the boss got hitched, we won’t back down.”
“That’s actually why we’re here.” Apollo crossed his arms. “He needed backup in case you won him over with affection or whatever.” He needn’t worry. Miles wasn’t about to risk giving Phoenix his cold (which, as far as anyone was concerned, he did not have) just to get an easier shot at a guilty verdict.
“Hey! What happened to our confidentiality agreement?” Phoenix sounded like he was joking, but knowing him, he likely did discuss something like that with his colleagues.
“Could I be excused for a bit?” Miles cleared his throat as casually as he could.
He heard Phoenix whisper something to his colleagues before the three nodded and he was free at last.
For a while, it was going so well. He made it to the restroom uninterrupted and dug through his pockets for a handkerchief that would be soft enough to leave the skin of his nose unscathed.
There was no handkerchief.
Okay, he had to have a pack of tissues on hand. As long as he was careful, he could manage... Only the pack he found was just the empty plastic he had meant to dispose of whenever he had used the last of it.
Out of desperation, he very slowly and carefully used a paper towel to tend to his nose, only to very quickly regret it. Just the softest brush of the rough texture was enough to leave his nostrils sore, not to mention pink.
At least he could breathe through his nose somewhat better, and hopefully speak clearly enough for the first half of the trial. He slowly pulled the restroom door open so he could leave unnoticed.
He could do this. He could do this. He could--
“Hey, babe. You finished with whatever you needed?” Phoenix showed his husband a wet spot on his suit. “Apollo forgot he was holding a cup of water when doing his ‘chords of steel’ and all that.” He laughed sheepishly. “So I needed to excuse myself, too. You wouldn’t happen to have your handkerchief on you, would you? The paper towels don’t seem to do a very good job cleaning up.”
“I do not, no.” Miles probably answered that question far too quickly.
“That’s a shame.” There Phoenix went, staring again. This time he had something to stare at, too, much to Miles’s dismay. “Is that why your nose is, uh...”
“Yes.”
“Whatever you used instead kind of made it look like you’re getting a cold.” As wonderful as it was for Phoenix to be just out of reach of the truth, keeping up the charade was only contributing to Miles’s growing fatigue.
“That would be because I ab.” At this point, Miles merely shrugged off the effects of his congestion creeping back in with a vengeance.
“What?” Naturally, Phoenix’s immediate response was to kiss Miles’s forehead, as was the norm when he had the slightest inkling that his husband was unwell. “Why didn’t you say so? I could’ve had Apollo and Athena fill in for me and I’d make you some tea and--”
“That’s dot at all decessary, sweetheart. I’ll survive a trial with a cold. Just as I always have.” Miles turned up his nose and sniffled thickly. “You're dot at all ode to talk.”
“Yeah, and that’s why the judge isn’t going to let you stay.” Leave it to Phoenix to be the one to kick-start the judge’s strict sick leave policy. Just about every situation Phoenix found his way in somehow led to some drastic change in the trial process, often at the expense of prosecutors just looking to do their job. “Would you rather him have you escorted out by a bailiff?”
Miles sighed through his nose and shook his head.
“Then I can ask Apollo to make use of that favor Gavin owes him for beta reading his memoir. I think he said Gavin owes him a hundred favors for that, too.”
“Love, I--”
“Don’t worry. I won’t tell anyone while we’re leaving early. There’s always the ‘Trucy has a dentist appointment’ card.”
“Dishodesty is highly-- Hh... Hhu’rrSSHHOOH!”
“Inappropriate for court, I know.” Phoenix put his hand on his husband’s shoulder. “But so is showing up sick after I kinda, well, made it pretty hard to do that.”
“To put it lightly.”
“And to put it lightly, you’re looking more and more at death’s door as you keep fighting to stay here.” Phoenix planted another forehead kiss. “Come on. Let’s get you home.”

THOUGHTS ON TURNABOUT CORNER
BIG SPOILERS FOR TURNABOUT CORNER AND TURNABOUT TRUMP (VERY LONG POST)
so i just finished turnabout corner, and i found it be all right. it was an accepatable case. it was fun to play. there wasn’t anything that stood out to me in the good sense, but i was a little nitpicky with the evidence, especially the noodle stand. in comparison to the first case, i found the second case to be a little disappointing.
of course, it was a joy to see ema skye come back and exciting to finally see klavier gavin be introduced. however, both characters were kind of...disappointing. ema skye, who successfully used luminol testing and finger print testing as a teenager, failing the exam to become a forensic investigator seems unreal to her character, especially if she managed to study abroad in famous germany where all the prosecutors seem to be from/learned from. ema is also more grouchier, which is expected since she failed the test, i guess. klavier gavin is a charmer, but i don’t find a lot of character in him. he seems to be very plain, and the only quirky trait i can make of him is the fact that he doesn’t conceal evidence to get a guilty verdict but makes sure to “find the truth”, which is totally awesome in my book, especially if it’s from a prosecutor. now, in regards to the actual murderer, alita tiala, i knew it was her the moment she first appeared on screen. i don’t know why, but i just did not like her at all. in the end, she was more sympathetic to because she was choked, which the writers nailed at creating the mood, and i had a more neutral feeling about her. before the first trial even happened, i already formulated a motive and backstory for the murder. it would be because she wanted the money from kitaki’s family and wanted her fiáncee to die from the bullet near his heart, so she wouldn’t have to get her hands dirty. i thought merkatis was going to do an operation where he removes the bullet, thus saving him, so alita had to kill him. it didn’t go like that, so i was quite surprised at the turn of events. i also didn’t really like wocky kitaki either. he did seem like a brat, but at least he understood why his dad is trying to get money. his eyes are super pretty, too, so that’s a plus. what i’m surprised at is the fact that he doesn’t get charged with attempt for murder since every witness testified truthfully that wocky was planning to kill pal merkatis. then again, this is ace attorney; real law rules don’t get applied, for better or for worse. in ace attorney, there are a lot of charges that are not given, and i don’t particularly have a problem with it. it’s just...interesting. guy eldoon was kind of interesting. i didn’t expect he was a surgeon before going into the noodle business. i also didn’t notice that his name was “noodle” spelt backwards until it was mentioned, and there’s ace attorney with their punny names! the only side characters i enjoyed were the parents of wocky. both were absolutely endearing, which is ironic because they’re both gangsters, and willing to save their son’s life if it meant switch their careers. when it was revealed that wocky’s dad’s eyes were actually eyebrows, i was VERY disturbed. i would say it was cursed. little plum was so interesting to talk to, and it felt like the conversations shared between me and her were ones of a customers and a sassy waitress at a diner. trucy is an all right character so far. she’s super adorable and naïve, but she’s also super intuitive and “perceiving”, which is a total turn of her personality out of the courtroom. i commented on how mature phoenix became, but, now, it seems almost out of character. maybe it’s because of the incident seven years ago, but phoenix acting so mature is kind of weird. i’ve watched the trailers for the upcoming games, and phoenix doesn’t appear to be as mature as he does in this game. i still don’t know why apollo went through everything phoenix told him to do, especially since it meant he wouldn’t be using his lawyer skills at first. is it because apollo looks up to phoenix? it seems that he has some disrespect for him for forging evidence, so i don’t think so. then again, apollo did seem excited to defend phoenix in the first case, so...I won’t judge the characters completely right now since it’s only the second time—for most first time—we’ve seen these characters. character development takes time, and i’m willing to play the game until the end to see how those characters grow. after all, klavier must have some baggage.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
in regards to the case, the case, i found to be, was too predictable for its own good in regards to the evidence but not the storyline completely. i already knew that alita killed merkatis, but i got her motive wrong. i didn’t expect for merkatis to choke her with the lamp, so that was a surprise. the issue with this case is that it’s kind of like ace attorney investigations with mile edgeworth, or at least what i’ve seen from a playthrough. i tended to present evidence too early, even though the evidence i would have to present would lead up to the evidence i presented originally, if that makes sense. ace attorney is pretty picky on where and when you have to present evidence. now with the evidence, i have three pieces that i have problems with: alita’s cute sandals, the noodle stand, and the panties. now, alita said she mixed up her sandals with the merkatis clinic slippers because they were both very comfortable. the real reason why she left with those slippers on is because merkatis was moving her body without taking out the slippers. however, why did she have to take out her shoes if she only went to warn merkatis and try to get the chart back? i know it’s custom to remove your shoes and/or use slippers in a a household in asia, but, if i were going to get some business done, i would have ignored being polite and go straight into the office. the other piece of evidence is the noodle stand. now, according to what really happened, alita shot merkatis from inside the noodle stand, but, if that was the case, shouldn’t there be a gunshot hole in the veil of the noodle stand? i don’t know what they’re called, but there’s a picture of it below. it is very unlikely that alita lifted the separation to shoot merkatis because that would reveal her to wocky and the other witness who i forgot because i found him very irrelevant. there was no gunshot hole or gunfire burns on the partition, so... the last piece of evidence i had issues with was the panties. there wasn’t anything wrong with it in terms of logic, but i just felt very uncomfortable by them. i don’t know, it just didn’t gibe with me.
Tumblr media
in conclusion, this case had more negatives and positives. in regards to positives, i’d say i really enjoy the perceiving aspect of gameplay! it really sucks that i don’t get to do it often, but, at least that way, the sensation doesn’t die down. the storyline was a bit unexpected for me, so i’ll give the writers kudos for having a neat little lemon twist. although this case was a little underwhelming, i’m sure the future cases will be better!

Mini Fanfic #483: Pirate Case Blues (Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney)
2:35 p.m. at a Burger Joint......
Apollo: (Looks Down on his Food in a Sad and Disappointed Expression) ............
Ema: ('Sigh') Alright, Justice. Tell us what's wrong.
Apollo: (Looks up to Ema and the rest of his Friends) What makes you think something's wrong with me to begin with?
Klavier: (Frowns at Apollo a bit Worryingly) Well, for starters, you haven't touched your meal yet.
Wocky: And you look like you actually want to knock someone out. Not that I don't think you could, but.....
Apollo: ('Sigh') Well, you guys aren't completely wrong in that assumption....
Ema: So something DID happened to you earlier today, huh?
Apollo: Yeah.....Long story short, Mr. Wright and Athena, the new recruit in the agency, went to a pirate show in Shipshape Aquarium called "Swashbuckler Spectacular" for investigation. Meanwhile, I was ordered to stay behind and do chore work around the entire office.....
Wocky: For real, man?
Apollo: Yep. I did it all..... Vacuumed the entire room's floor, wiped all of the windows, finished the rest of Mr. Wright's Mountain Top of paperworks, planted Charlie every five minutes.....
Klavier: (Raised an Eyebrow in Confusion) Mr. Wright has a plant.....Named Charlie?
Apollo: Yeah..... Apparently it's the agency's mascot. But out of all the chores I did.....The worst one by far is.....('Sighs Heavily') Bathroom cleaning...........
Ema: (Eyes Widened in a bit of Surprised) You had to clean a Wright's bathroom?
Apollo: Worst.....I had to clean his toilet.....
Wocky: (Almost Choke on his Food) Dead-Ass?!!!
Apollo: Yeah......(Immediately Starts Shuddering in Disgusted) And trust me when I say that it wasn't the only time I had to clean it......
Klavier: I don't follow....Why would Mr. Wright would entrusted you to clean his toilet?
Apollo: That's what I wanted to know!! I've been asking him, non-stop, on why he wants me to do so and everytime, he would always find some way to dodge the question entirely and leave me to do his literal dirty work! And today, really wasn't even an expectation!
Ema: Okay. So if that's the case, does it mean you're upset at Athena too for going to the investigation instead of you?
Apollo: Not all all. In fact, I'm happy she's able to do another investigation today. Athena's been doing a really great job as a lawyer lately and it would be criminal of me to be mad at her for something she didn't even do. I'm more upset with Mr. Wright if anything.... And it's not just because he left me behind to do his chores.
Klavier: It isn't?
Apollo: No. It's.....(Took a Deep Breath before Speaking Again) Sometimes I feel like...... Maybe I'm just.....not good enough to work alongside him.....Even after everything I did to clear his name and get his old job back, I can't help.... but to feel less worthy than I already was.
Klavier: (Starts to Looks Up Once He Saw a Very Familiar Face Standing Behind Apollo) Uh....Herr Forehead?
Apollo: Like my hard work, determination, and even the progress I made so far..... Doesn't matter anymore....At least not to Mr. Wright.....
Ema: Apollo.....
Apollo: And, sure, maybe I am being too negative about this.....And even to myself. I mean.....I did came along way-
Wocky: Hey yo, Justice!!
Apollo: W-What?! What is it?
Ema: Think it's time for you to turn around?
Apollo: (Slowly Starts to Turns Around) Why would you guys want me to-Ah! (Jumps a Little in Fright once He Sees the Person Behind him was None Other Than Trucy Wright) Uhh... Heyyyyyy, Trucy. How's it going?
Trucy: (Frowns Sadly Towards Apollo in Silence) .....................
Apollo: I-I-I was just.....(Chuckles Very Awkwardly While Rubbing Back of his Head Back and Forth) Eating lunch with a group of friends and everything. You know, the same ol', same ol'. Nothing too special, of course.
Klavier: You know.....(Immediately Starts to Get Up From his Seat) I uhh... almost completely forgot that....I have somewhere very important to be right now.
Ema: (Got up From her Seat as Well) Y-Yeah....Me too. E-Even Wocky here has somewhere he needs to go too.
Wocky: (Got up from his Seat Too) I do?
Ema: (Bumps Wocky's Shoulder with Hers)
Wocky: I-I mean, yeah! Yeah.('Heh') I uh....Gotta get back to my pops now. He uhh.... needs something.
Klavier: If you two could kindly excuse us........
Ema: We'll be on our way now.
Wocky: See ya! (Immediately Speed Walk Away from the Table with Klavier and Ema Follow Pursuit)
Apollo: (Watch his Three Friends Sprint Away Before Turning Back to Trucy While Chuckling Awkwardly Again) Busy people, am I right?
Trucy: Polly.
Apollo: ('Sighs in Defeat') I can't keep do this anymore........ I'm really sorry about this, Trucy.
Trucy: Polly.......
Apollo: I-It really wasn't my intention to be a huge downer today or anything. I really appreciate everything your dad done for me last year. I really do!
Trucy: Pollyyyy.......
Apollo: Hell.....I wouldn't be who I am now if it wasn't for you and dad helping me be the best lawyer I can be and-
Trucy: Apollo! (Gently Grab Both of Apollo's Hands and Squeeze Them) Calm down. You're gonna get yourself a headache if you keep this up.
Apollo: You're right. (Takes a Few Deep Breath to Calm Himself Down)
Trucy: That's it. In and out. Just like that...... You're ready to talk now?
Apollo: (Took One More Deep Breath Before Speaking Again) Yeah......Sorry about that.
Trucy: Don't worry, Polly. It's fine. (Giggles a Little) I'm guessing daddy's chores gotten you pretty stressed out earlier, huh?
Apollo: For the most part..........
Trucy: You know, I can totally get where you're coming from all of this. Dealing with daddy's nonsense and whatnot.
Apollo: Seriously?
Trucy: (Happily Nodded) Yep. Though, it's mostly when I was younger. ('Sigh') I remember those days...... Making daddy's breakfast, do some chores around the office, making sure he doesn't get late from a part-time job he used have. Yeah.....I did it all already.....
Apollo: (Chuckles Lightly) You make it sound pretty easy.
Trucy: Trust me, Polly. It was anything BUT easy. Probably because it was me and him at the time.
Apollo: (Immediately Frowns Again) Oh.......Trucy, I-
Trucy: (Place a Finger on top of Apollo's Nose) Upupup! Don't even think about doing it, Apollo.
Apollo: (Very Confused) Doing what exactly?
Trucy: Feeling sorry for us. Sure, daddy and I have been through a lot these past years and everything, but we were always did whatever we can to make it through together, no matter what.
Apollo: (Smiles a Little) That's great, Trucy. Really.
Trucy: Thanks. But I think we're getting way off track here, don'tcha think?
Apollo: ('Sighs in Defeat') Yeah.....
Trucy: (Sighs a Little While Gently Placing her Hand Back on to Apollo's) Listen, I know daddy can be a real handful at times, work or not, but I promise you he means well.
Apollo: I know a-and I believe it too. I just...... Don't wanna feel like I'm slowing you guys down, you know?
Trucy: ('Gasps') Apollo Justice! How could you think something like that?! You're not slowing us down at all! You've made the both of us very proud, even now!
Apollo: You..... Really mean that?
Trucy: Of course I do. I knew should've told you all of this earlier but....A few days ago after you went back home, daddy told me how proud you made him lately and how happy and thankful he was to have you in our agency. He even told me he wants to adopt you one day.....
Apollo: Wait. What?!
Trucy: Okay. Maybe that last one was was exaggerated....But he DID told me you were almost like the son he never had!
Apollo: (Eyes Widened in a bit of a Shock) You're serious?!
Trucy: (Rapidly Nodded) You've changed his life for the better the moment you agreed to joined our agency that day. You were even able to get his job as a lawyer back and everything! That alone is worthy of his thanks and gratitude. Which you clearly deserved, by the way.
Apollo: (Couldn't Believe What He's Hearing Right Now) Wow......I..... honestly had no idea he felt that way about me.....
Trucy: Well, it's the honest truth. He might not show it all the time, but trust me when I say that you really do mean the world to him, Polly. Just as much as you mean to me.
Apollo: Trucy, I......(Slowly But Surely Begins Smiles Sincerely) Can't thank you enough.
Trucy: (Smiles Softly) Hey. There's no need to thank me......Just yet!
Apollo: Huh?
Trucy: (Giggles Softly) Polly, would you like to watch a pirate movie with me back at the office?
Apollo: You actually got yourself a pirate movie?
Trucy: (Smiles Brightly) Yep! It might not be as real as an actual pirate show, but it definitely has a lot more action in comparison.
Apollo: Sweet. You don't mind if I invited Ema and the others to come over and watch it with us, do you?
Trucy: The more the merrier! (Makes her way to Apollo Side of the Seat and Hugs Him) Anything that makes you better again is good enough for me.
Apollo: (Smiles Softly while Ruffling the top of Trucy's Hair) Have I ever tell you how much of a great little sister you are to me lately?
Trucy: (Giggles Softly) Not really. Buuuuuuut I'll be very happy if you keep telling me that a lot more often.
Apollo: (Chuckles Lightly) I'll see what I can do, sis. I love you.
Trucy: I love you too, Polly. (Gives Apollo a Big Kiss on the Cheek) So much.

Collabwithmyself Chronicles: Phoe-nix Chapter 2
Chapter 2: Just an Average Day
“Put on your Sunday clothes,
There's lots of world out there
Get out the brillantine and dime cigars
We're gonna find adventure in the evening air
Girls in white in a perfumed night
Where the lights are bright as the stars!
Put on your Sunday clothes, we're gonna ride through town
In one of those new horse-drawn open cars
We'll see the shows at Delmonico’s
And we'll close the town in a whirl
And we won't come until we've kissed a girl!”
The Hello Dolly show-tune definitely does not describe the current state of the Earth. The beautiful shades of blues, greens, browns, and whites of the entirety of Earth have been dulled to a murky brown. The atmosphere surrounding the planet is littered with satellites and other space debris. Once you actually penetrate the pea soup-like smog that drapes the landscape, you can make out the outlines of the beautiful mountains … of trash … if you squint. Buried under and surrounding these mountains are decommissioned wind turbines, nuclear power plants, factories, telephone and power lines, and long abandoned cities and buildings. A truly depressing and eerie sight to behold.
The bubbly show tune and the sound of wheels crunching paper, glass, metal, and plastic are the only sounds that can be heard within the sickening silence of the abandoned street as Phoenix skates his way through the pathways, carrying Trucy on his shoulders. Phoenix was wearing dirtied, light brownish-orange jumpsuit with grey sleeves and gloves, had black accents on his arms, and black boots. He also had a pair of goggles resting in front of his spiky black hair that aided him whenever a little, or big, dust storm ever picked up. Trucy had brown hair tied up into a side ponytail and was wearing a little black dress with gold buttons, white gloves and boots, a light blue cape, and a red ascot tied around her neck. Trucy looked like a magician, as she was programmed to know magic tricks in order to entertain children. Trucy had started to come with him to work after a few months of becoming a little family. While she couldn’t really help with compacting and sorting trash, she did keep him company and help find new trinkets to add to their collection back home. Since Phoenix was the only Fen-10 unit with a ‘soul,’ the rest were not much for conversation.
Once arriving at his destination, Phoenix knelt down to let Trucy, who was carrying the small, portable cooler they had for storing new treasures, off as Phoenix removed his backpack-slash-trash compactor and placed it on the ground. He glances at his surroundings, seeing the huge skyscrapers of trash cubes he and his fellow Fen-10 units created over the centuries. Despite many of these trash towers being taller than most of the abandoned buildings, he and the other androids barely made a dent in the sea of trash. This task has only been harder ever since the last Fen-10 broke down nearly three centuries ago. Phoenix couldn’t help but give out a sad and tired sigh as he gently rubbed the side of his face where a noticeable scratch lied. He turned back to the section of trash and fastened his gloves.
“C’mon Phoenix, just do a few more cubes and you’ll be done for today,” he whispered to himself. With Hello Dolly still blazing through his portable radio, Phoenix scoops two armfuls of aluminum cans, paper cups, and other miscellaneous pieces of trash into his compactor and starting it up. The loud sounds of the machinery crushing the trash muted out the song until the trash cube came sliding out once the machine was done. All that was left was to carry the cube to the stack and do it over again, and again, and again. As he and Trucy trekked up the already very tall structure of trash cubes, Trucy noticed a new treasure.
“Hey daddy,” she chimed, “look at this!” Trucy pointed to a silver disk that was lodged within one of the trash cubes as Phoenix began to tug it free. The two androids stared at disk, trying to figure out what it could be used as, when it began to reflect the light of the sun as it began to set, shimmering within its light.
“Wow, it’s so pretty,” Trucy stated in awe, “Can we keep it?”
“Heh, I don’t see why not,” Phoenix replied, “But it looks too big to keep in the cooler with the other things we found. I’ll carry it in the compactor until we get home.” With that, Phoenix places their newest trinket into his compactor before turning off his radio.
“I think this is enough for today,” Phoenix tiredly sighed, “Let’s go home sweetie.” Phoenix put his backpack back on and helped Trucy and the cooler up onto his shoulders. He then activated his retractable skates and carefully made his way back down the newest trash-scraper. The size of this paled in comparison to the others that Phoenix had created over the many years. Countless mountains of trash have been made by Phoenix over the years, and it look that there would only be even more in the future.
________________________________________________________________
The trek back home gave the two androids the full tour of the abandoned city that they lived in. They once again passed the huge Buy N Large Ultra Store that they have become all too familiar with. The store was absolutely massive and used to carry practically anything a person could need or want. It was as a great place to find supplies, tools, or just fun treasures to take home. The android family then passed by the gas station with one too many pumps and then the bank, which had many ATM’s and had the ground littered with abandoned currency. There was even a speaker that was still playing the Buy N Large theme song, as it was solar powered like Phoenix. Next was the ‘hall of advertisements,’ as Phoenix would playfully call it. Nothing but BNL advertisements of varying products and sizes as far as the optics could see. Phoenix and Trucy then made their way up a broken-down escalator, making their way to the monorail system. Phoenix paused as he approached the rail, checking to make sure it was safe to continue. His demeanor saddened as he knew that they would soon be approaching ‘the graveyard,’ the sight where hundreds of other Fen-10 units broke down. It was always hard to come this way, seeing basically himself lifeless. His daughter knew this all too well.
“Will you be okay Daddy?” she softly asked, “We can go a different way.” Phoenix snapped out of his thoughts and turned to her.
“No, it’s alright,” he replied, “This is the fastest way home. I just … need a moment.” He took a deep breath and gently shook his head.
{Just take it slow Phoenix. You’re going to be ok.} Phoenix squeezed Trucy’s hand, letting her know that he was alright. He then reactivated his skates and carefully made his way along the rail. The deactivated androids soon came into view. Large piles of Fen-10 units surrounded the monorail system, with each droid caked in rust and dust. Phoenix tried to focus on the rail or at the sunset, trying to avoid seeing what he would look like if he ever went offline. Suddenly, just when they reached a patch of solid ground, Phoenix’s deteriorating treads finally gave out. Both androids began to feel the quick, shaking movements of Phoenix’s broken treads unevenly traveling on the path. Phoenix carefully came to a stop to check on Trucy and the condition of his treads.
“You alright Truce,” Phoenix asked.
“I’m fine Daddy,” she replied as she slid off her father’s shoulders. Phoenix lifted his ped to inspect the damage, only to groan in frustration at how bad it was. There was no way to fix these treads with the tools back home, they were completely destroyed beyond repair. He needed a new pair to tread boots. His optics then landed on an offline Fen-10 unit slumped to his left, with a pair of tread boots in perfect condition. Phoenix looked between his destroyed boots and the unit’s boots. Phoenix sadly sighed and looked at the downed unit with guilt.
{… I’m sorry}
________________________________________________________________
After switching the boots, Phoenix and Trucy got back on the rail that lead them back to their bunker. Taking equipment or parts from the other Fen-10 units was always difficult, but sadly necessary. The factory where Phoenix was built ran out of parts practically in the first or second century. The plans, equipment, and supplies needed to recreate the parts Phoenix could need were lost or destroyed. This left Phoenix with no choice but to use the countless androids that littered his home. Since there were so many and the droids were built with durability that would make a cockroach jealous, Phoenix practically had an endless supply of equipment and parts that he would ever need. Even though they were never really ‘alive,’ he would always feel a bit guilty after taking the parts. He took some comfort knowing that Trucy will not have to deal with that. The local Tru-3 factory still has parts and they were able to secure the plans and equipment if Trucy ever needed new parts. The android family carefully continued on the rail, passing by abandoned apartments and destroyed factories and equipment, before finally coming to the downtown transit station. As Phoenix skated on the terminal floor, he passed an automatic advertisement that displayed exactly how the human population left the Earth.
“Too much garbage in your face,” the voice asked, “There’s plenty of space out in space! BNL Starliners leaving each day. We’ll clean up the mess while your away.” The advertisement had four individual screens, each showing a different scene when Phoenix moved passed them. The first was just an animated growing mountain of garbage, the second showed the BNL Starliner, the Axiom, soaring past the Earth, the third screen showed two Axioms taking off from their docking points, and the fourth one displayed about six Fen-10 droids doing their jobs as another Axiom takes off in the background.
{I guess it’s more like “I’ll clean up the mess while you’re still away” these days.} Phoenix and Trucy made their way to the end of the platform and pushed through the exit terminal gates. Just then, another, larger screen appeared above them with another advertisement of the Axiom.
“The jewel of the BNL fleet, the Axiom,” the voice exclaimed, “Spend your five-year cruise in style! Waited on 24 hours a day by our fully automated crew while your captain and auto-pilot chart a course for non-stop entertainment, fine dining, and with our all-access hover chairs, even grandma can join in the fun! There’s no need to walk! The Axiom, putting the star in executive starliner!” This advertisement showed hundreds of humans being pampered in a number of ways by all kinds of androids, be it by massages or by cooking hibachi-styled meals. It also showed the captain at the time and his android auto-pilot. Phoenix was always put off by the auto-pilot. He had slicked back grey hair, striking yet cold red and black eyes, and a stern face with noticeable wrinkles, making him look very old. It was almost as if that android could see right through your hardware. Phoenix’s paranoia about the auto-pilot android was interrupted by the image of the CEO of Buy N Large, Shelby Forthright, appearing on the screen.
“Because of BNL, space is the final fun-tier,” Forthright cheered as he waved to another Axiom taking off into the stars.
{I just wish you all would come back from that final fun-tier.}
______________________________________________________________
After a few more minutes, the android family finally arrived back at their bunker. It was set up on an abandoned, half-finished highway with a few deteriorating cars and construction vehicles in front. The bunker was designed as a place where Fen-10 units could power down after work, but Phoenix and Trucy made it into a suitable home over the centuries. Phoenix gained a good knowledge of machinery, electronics, and energy from reading books and downloading memory files, which helped him set up a small, yet sufficient home. Phoenix was able to fix the solar panels on the outside of the bunker to power everything in their home. They had working lights, heating and cooling systems, mechanics, and even an entertainment system with a DVD and VHS player, iPod that functioned as their television screen and sound system, and a few gaming systems. Phoenix was even able to repair a transceiver and screen that was capable of communication with a person in space if it linked with the other signal code. While they have never been able to reach anyone in space, they could still use its screen for their gaming system. Phoenix pulled up to a control panel, allowing Trucy to a lever that activated the door to their bunker. As the door slowly began to open, the sun’s light shown on the multitude of treasures they have collected over the years, be it a chandelier made from miscellaneous junk, a birdcage full of rubber ducks, or even a collection of clocks of varying types and sizes.
{Home sweet home.} Phoenix grabbed a power strip and flipped its switch, activating the lights in their bunker. Phoenix’s mood brightened as he stared at many treasures that he and Trucy collected over the centuries. Each item was a cherished memory he shared with his daughter. Phoenix helped Trucy off his shoulders before zipping off the top part of his jumpsuit, revealing the white undershirt underneath, and tying the sleeves around his waist. Phoenix began to hum the Hello Dolly show-tune as he strolled over to the entertainment system, taking the copy of Hello Dolly on VHS out of a decommissioned toaster to continue watching from the night before.
To say that phoenix loved Hello Dolly was an understatement. While there were other movies or shows that he and Trucy could watch, Hello Dolly had a special place in Phoenix’s core processor. The joyful music, lovable characters, and mesmerizing dance numbers always helped Phoenix and Trucy cheer up after a long day of trash sorting, treasure hunting, and seeing how badly the world keeps deteriorating. Moreover, this was her favorite musical. The favorite show of the Phoenix’s first and only human friend before every person evacuated the planet.
Phoenix placed the tape into the player and adjusted the large magnifying glass over the iPod’s screen, making the image of the town’s people in the scene bigger to see. With the familiar tune playing in the background, Phoenix and Trucy began to sort their new treasures, starting with the silver disk. As Phoenix turned what now appeared to be a hub cap from a car, he turned to look at the screen and took notice of the hats that the towns people were using in their dance number. Phoenix began to turn the disk above his head, mimicking the choreography of the scene.
{Well, that’s one thing we can use this for.} Phoenix placed the disk into one of the many shelves that lined the wall of the bunker. Trucy then opened up the cooler to take out the other treasures they had found throughout the day. Inside the cooler was a spork, a Rubik’s Cube, a hand-powered mixer, a light bulb, and an old BNL lighter. Trucy took out the spork and Rubik’s Cube, admiring the strange objects she found near the Ultra Store earlier that day. She placed the cube in a section that also housed one of her father’s art sculptures, which was a red clay heart with a spiked dog dollar around it on a spring. Trucy then moved to the section next to it to place the spork, trying to decide on whether to place it with their collection of forks or spoons. She eventually decided to put it in between the collections, as it was a fusion between the two. As Trucy placed the spork in its section, Phoenix pulled out the BNL lighter.
“What made you want to take this Trucy,” Phoenix questioned, “We must have nearly one hundred of these things by now.”
“Oh, it has something in it” Trucy replied, “I heard liquid inside when I picked it up. The others we have are empty. What do you think is in there?”
“I’m not sure,” Phoenix declared, “I don’t remember reading anything about these in our books or memory files. Let’s just put it with the others we found for now.” Phoenix moved to the end of the shelf and pressed the lowest button on its control panel, making the Ferris-wheel like mechanism begin to rotate the shelves until it reached the one with their collection of lighters. After placing the newest lighter in with the others, Phoenix’s audio receptors picked up a familiar sound. That song was playing again.
“And that is all, that loves about.
And we'll recall, when time runs out...”
Phoenix was always captivated by this song and scene. Seeing the two humans sweetly sing to each other, intertwine hands, and stare lovingly at each other made Phoenix’s core processor swell with happiness, but he also felt hints of jealousy and sadness. Phoenix let out a quiet sigh, surrounded in love and loneliness that Trucy managed to hear. She looked over to the screen, and anticipated her father’s next action.
“That it only,
Took a moment,
To be loved...
Whole...
Life...
Long.”
As the song began to end, Phoenix intertwined his own hands, mimicking the two humans on screen. There is was. Her father always held his own hands whenever he watched that scene. The scene was beautiful, but it also unintentionally rubbed what the two characters had that her father didn’t: Love.
This was not to say that Phoenix did not love her, extremely the opposite. Ever since Phoenix found her in the landfill her original ‘family’ left her in and re-activated her, he has been the greatest father she could ever ask for. He was always thinking of her and would do anything for her. He helped her recover and cope with her feelings of abandonment, shared with her everything he knew about the world, and would always make time for her for whatever she needed. Phoenix loved her with every ounce of his processor, no doubt about it.
But this was a different type of love. The two characters shared a romantic type of love, and her father did not have someone to share that kind of love with. He would try to hide his sadness over this from her; he did not want her to believe that their bond did not make him happy. Trucy understood how he felt, she did not have someone to share this kind of love with either. While she didn’t feel that strong of a desire for romantic love, probably due to her programming, she could see that her father wanted to experience that kind of love for himself, and not just watch it from movies. Trucy slowly walked over to her father and placed her hand on his arm.
“Daddy,” she carefully whispered. Phoenix slightly jumped at her touch. He looked over to her and then his hands, slowly separating them.
“I’m doing it again,” Phoenix softly mumbled, “I’m sorry Pumpkin, I …”
“Please don’t apologize Daddy,” Trucy reassured as she cupped her father’s face, “It’s not a bad thing to feel sad over this. You told me years ago that we have to feel what we need to feel. So please, if you need to feel sad, don’t hide it. Not even for my sake.” Phoenix held Trucy’s hands and gently pressed his forehead against hers. He knew that she was right. He shouldn’t be ashamed of his emotions. She’s not a naïve little android; she has changed and grown over the centuries. He shouldn’t be afraid to feel sadness around her, but he practically conditioned himself to in an attempt to spare her from feeling any undeserved guilt. He placed a gentle kiss on her forehead and cupped her face.
“What did I do to deserve the world’s most perfect daughter,” He softly asked.
“Saved me from becoming one of the many trash cubes you have to make,” she jokingly replied.  Phoenix couldn’t help but giggle at her clever comeback. He hugged her close as they turned toward the screen, watching the two characters walk off, hand-in-hand. Phoenix hugged Trucy tighter as the sadness and jealousy seeped back in. Trucy placed her hands on her father’s, staring up at him to see what he would do next. Phoenix sighed and turned his head towards her.
“Trucy,” he began, “I know that you already know this, but I love you. Without you, I’d be so miserable here. But … I wish we weren’t the only two beings left on Earth. I wish we didn’t have to do the same things all day, every day. I’m so tired of cleaning and making trash cubes. I’m frustrated that I’m the only Fen-10 unit still working. I’m angry that I was the only one alive. I hate that there is still so much trash left, and we have to take care of it ourselves. I wish that the humans were back. I wish that there were other androids we could interact with. I wish that…”
“Easy Daddy,” Trucy interrupted, “Don’t overload your processor. Just take it slow.” Phoenix’s voice was getting faster and higher in pitch. Anymore and he might have needed to change his voice box. He took a deep breath to collect his thoughts.
{Easy Phoenix, you don’t have to say everything on your mind right now. Like Trucy says, take it slow.}
“… I want more out of life Truce,” he continued, “I don’t want to sound ungrateful for what we have now. Having you with me, collecting treasures together, making art, … it does make me happy. You make me very happy. … But that scene … it reminds me of what we could have … or what we never may have.” Phoenix knelt down to be at eye level with his daughter, placing his hands on her shoulders. He tried to speak again, but his melting pot of emotions made him stop to think about how he should say what needs to be said. However, Trucy caught on to what he wanted to say.
“I feel the same way Daddy,” Trucy revealed, “I love going with you to work and treasure hunting, but … I also want to do more. I want our lives to change.”
Change. Change is something that many people often fear. After all, fear is the result of not knowing something. But when you have been doing the same things for centuries, you might welcome a change of pace with open arms.
“I want to do the things that the humans in the movies can do,” Trucy added, “I want to meet people. I want to go on picnics, go to the beach, travel the world. I want an ..”
“Adventure,” Phoenix interjected. Phoenix gently sighed, feeling a weight lift off of his shoulders after sharing his frustrations, and remembering that he does not need to hide anything from his daughter. He couldn’t help but quietly laugh at how he fell for the cliché plot of hiding his true feelings to spare another’s; one of the curses of having a human ‘soul’: you have human flaws and make human mistakes. Phoenix pulled Trucy into a gentle hug.
“Truce, I really am sorry for hiding how I’ve been feeling, but I’m happy that you finally got it out of me,” Phoenix apologized, “I should have known that you were feeling the same way.”
“I’ve been hiding it too Daddy,” Trucy replied, “I was worried that I would hurt your feelings if I told you how I was feeling about this.”
“But this …. This is good. It feels good to talk about this. We shouldn’t be afraid to talk to each other about anything like this anymore. Trucy … if you ever feel unhappy, frustrated, or anything, never be afraid to talk to me about it. And I promise to do the same.” Trucy wrapped her arms around her father’s neck, tightening their hug. Phoenix felt his core processor swell with relief and happiness, knowing that the unneeded burden of hiding their true emotions was lifting. He knew that it would take some time to break this habit, but they took the first step. With more open talks and support, they can and will cope with their situation.
{An adventure would be nice. It would be great to do something else, go somewhere new … Wait a minute! Somewhere new!} Phoenix straightened his posture as an idea entered his mind.
“I think I know a little adventure we can have,” Phoenix exclaimed, “There’s a section of the city that we haven’t gone to, not even once! I think it’s called Sector 358, South-West from here. I’m supposed to finish Sector 174 tomorrow, but how about we skip it and go there instead!” Trucy looked up at her father in surprise and excitement.
“Really, a new sector,” Trucy thrilled, “You really mean it?”
“Of course. I’ll still be doing my job, but we’ll have a change of pace. What do you say?”
“Y-yeah! That sounds great! Think of all the new treasures we can find! This is gonna be awesome!” Trucy began to pace around the bunker, happily listing all of the new things she and her father could do and see. She began to speak faster and her voice raised in pitch. Phoenix waved her down and then spoke.
“Heh, take it easy Pumpkin! Now you’re gonna overload your processor. But, I’m glad your excited. Why don’t we plan out what we can do at the sector while we finish sorting our new treasures?” Trucy took a deep breath and calmed her excitement. She then joined her father by the cooler, trying to find a fitting place for the hand-powered mixer.
________________________________________________________________
The sun had finally set and the night sky began to sparkle with the lights of the stars … is what one would see if the smog wasn’t blocking the atmosphere. Phoenix and Trucy had finished Hello Dolly and placed their new treasures in their collection. Trucy was on top of the bunker trying to catch a glimpse of the stars while her father was carefully banging the cooler on the ramp of their bunker to clean out the dirt and dust from the day.
“Hey Daddy,” Trucy called, “The smog is clearing a bit! You can see the stars!” Phoenix looked up to the sky as a grin grew on his face, joyful to see that his daughter was right. It was a small hole in the smog, but it was enough to see the silvery dots speckled across the black darkness of space. The beauty of the sight made Phoenix couldn’t help but think back to the song “It only takes a moment.” The soft lyrics and melody did fit the sight of a calm sky well. Phoenix pulled out a tape recorder and pressed the play button. The song, which Phoenix had recorded earlier began to play as Phoenix continued to stare at the night sky. Phoenix sighed as the beauty of the song mixed perfectly with the calmness of the shimmering stars.
However, the song was only able to play the first line as the smog once again covered the sky. The sound of the song was then replaced with the blaring siren of Phoenix’s alarm system. Phoenix stiffened and gasped at the sudden change of sound and quickly pulled his goggles over his eyes to see what and where the danger was. Phoenix’s line of vision fixated directly in front of him.
[WARNING! LEVEL 3 DUST STORM APPROACHING!
SPEED: 249 MPH
ESTIMATED ARRIVAL TIME TO CURRENT LOCATION: 30 SECONDS
SEEK SHELTER IMMEDIATELY!]
“Oh no,” Phoenix quietly gulped before turning to warn Trucy, “TRUCY! SANDSTORM COMING IN FAST! GET INSIDE, QUICK!” Trucy quickly sat up upon hearing her father’s cry and scrambled to her feet. She quickly climbed down the bunker’s side ladder and sprinted into the door. Once she was safely inside, Phoenix flipped the switch on the power strip to close the door. Phoenix and Trucy moved to the back of the bunker, watching the door slowly close. They hugged each other and held their breaths as they saw the storm quickly approach. Once the door finally closed and locked, they let out a sigh of relief.
{These storms are getting more and more common. No matter how many we face, it never gets easier.} Phoenix and Trucy stayed silent for a few seconds, listening to the wind blow around their bunker and the song. Trucy was the first to notice that the song was still playing and began to giggle at the unfitting music after narrowly escaping the dust storm. Trucy’s giggles alerted Phoenix to the song and he couldn’t help but laugh along with her. As he pressed the off button, Trucy let out a yawn. She pressed the button that held her cape together and checked her stats. Her energy was low.
“Heh, it is pretty late,” Phoenix chuckled, “We should get some sleep. We’ve got quite a day tomorrow.” Phoenix and Trucy made their way to the very back of the bunker to their beds. Phoenix was able to hook up Trucy’s charger to her cot so she could be charged when she went to sleep. Trucy removed her cape, gloves, ascot, boots, and pulled her hair out of the pony tail while Phoenix completely removed the top part of his jumpsuit and pulled off his boots. After Trucy settled into her bed, Phoenix strolled over to tuck her in.
“Good night sweetie,” Phoenix cooed as he kissed her forehead.
“Goodnight Daddy,” Trucy yawned. It only took a few seconds for Trucy to power down and fall asleep. Phoenix softly smiled as he made his way over to his cot and pulled the quilt over his body. Phoenix stared up at the ceiling, letting his body relax after the long day.
{Just an average day. … With a few changes.} Phoenix closed his eyes and allowed himself to power down, letting himself drift off to sleep.

                                                       Author’s Note
Man, I did not mean for this to take so long.
As you can see, this au follows the story of the Disney and Pixar movie Wall-e. If you have seen the movie, then you know around 85% of the story’s plot. If you have not seen this movie, then this will contain spoilers for it. But I am adding new scenes to the story to keep it interesting, so I hope you all continue to enjoy it.
The scene with Trucy and Phoenix in the bunker was difficult to write. I wanted to write that scene in a careful, honest, and respectful way. Being someone who suffers with depression, I know first-hand how important it is to one’s health to talk about one’s emotions and feelings. If you are struggling with your emotions and how you feel, please talk to someone you trust or seek out a therapist or councilor. And if you know or see someone struggling with this, please help them in the best way you can. You could save a life. Your feelings and mental health matter, always remember that.
So, can you guys guess which Ace Attorney character is Auto? If you remember what Auto does to Wall-e near the end, then you should get your answer.
And who is this mysterious woman that Phoenix befriends? Who is the woman that Phoenix has the highest regard for? See the next chapter to find out!

ranking the aa games by how much i enjoyed them, the (probably long awaited by ye of the aa tags so i’ll stop cluttering them) conclusion of ten months hard gaming. reverse order so the bad news gets out of the way first.
8. Trials and Tribulations It had its moments, but for the most part I look back on this game and remember how little I really enjoyed the storylines the cases followed. Yeah, Dahlia was cool and all, but cases 2 and 3 are the most annoying in the series and 5 got kind of ridiculous by the end. As a conclusion to a trilogy I see what they were trying to do but I found it a bit lacking. And I still don’t really care for Godot. It did have one of the better first cases in the series though so that’s something it’s got going for it.
7. Dual Destinies I’m going to die mad about the trainwreck of the Phantom plot and about how they handled Clay and Apollo, and the handholding, and about how the game basically doesn’t acknowledge Phoenix’s character in AJ at all. Case 3 and the Athena and Blackquill storyline were my favorite bits, and the DLC is rock solid. Other than that I’m kind of neutral on the game.
6. Investigations 1 Another game that’s hard to comment on because I’m fairly neutral about it. It’s a solid game with fun mechanics, a good plot, and lovable characters. I give it a B for competency: nothing blew me away but nothing frustrated me either. Case 4 remains the favorite.
5. Ace Attorney 1 Despite its comparatively low placing on the list, it holds a special place in my heart as the foundation of all the stuff that follows it. It’s unpolished but genuine, with a really lovely arc and some of my favorite characters. I’m still shaken from case 4 to this day, and I probably always will be.
4. Spirit of Justice I honestly was preparing for another slog like DD when I started this game and case 1... didn’t really help matters. By the end I was very pleasantly surprised by how much I’d enjoyed it. I still think SoJ is best when it’s not about the DC Act plot: cases 2 and 4 are somehow among my favorites in the series. Dhurke and Datz are treasures, the returning characters were lovely (even if they did put Maya on a bus again, damn them), and most of all, I loved that almost every single witness had an ‘alter ego’ type thing going on with them. For whatever reason that made it a lot more fun. It’s still a little weighed down by its overarching plot and the clunky handholdy 3ds writing but it’s getting better slowly but surely.
3. Justice for All It got off to a rocky start with case 1 but case 4 is probably my favorite in the series so I’ll let it slide this once. I loved the theme of grief and aimlessness that wound around the story and the characters, I loved the very clearly more vicious Phoenix as a contrast from the first game, and I loved Franziska’s misplaced aggression towards him. I’ve seen people complain about Miles’ appearance in this game and how it takes away from Franziska but I’ve never liked those complaints. Miles is woven into the whole narrative, not just his physical appearance in case 4. He’s what Franziska and Phoenix are really clashing over throughout the whole game, and his reappearance is what gives them both closure and sets them back on their paths. It finishes their arcs. The real problem is that this is a shorter game so Franziska has less time to appear and flesh out. Also case 3 is very good and you can pry that from my cold dead hands.
2. Investigations 2: Prosecutor’s Path Periodically I think about this game and get hit by how wonderfully thematic it is, with its could-have-beens and the parent/child relationships and the found families. As a character narrative it’s top notch, even if the event narrative is somewhat out there. Every case was very enjoyable though; my personal favorite is probably 3, just for the jumps back and forth through time that you had to do.
1. Apollo Justice I admit it. I’m biased. I just... really like this game. I adore all the characters so much, from long-suffering and very relatable Apollo, to bright and mischievous Trucy, to friendly and showy Klavier, and so on and so forth. The cast of AJ really is impeccable, I still think Stickler’s the only one who really grated on me: I dislike the Gramaryes but narratively they were sound. AJ also has the best case 1 in the series, I can’t imagine playing it when it came out and not knowing what Phoenix had been up to for seven years and then getting hit with all THAT. I’d have lost my marbles. It’s the only AA game that I consistently have wanted to replay in its entirety since starting the series and I think that has to cement it at number one.
Also, read Dirty Sympathy.

DO YOU THINK THIS IS A FUCKIN JOKE? DO YOU THINK I’M A FUCKIN JOKE??
YOUR FAVOURITE…?
 1. Favourite Ace Attorney game?I haven’t completed all the currently released games, and it’s VERY hard for me to choose... I think I’d have to say Apollo Justice. Simply because it had Nick in it still, though with... a completely different personality, Trucy (no explanation needed there! ♥), and also my precious boy Apollo.
2. Favourite case?MAN this one is tough... I think.. Turnabout Goodbyes? This doesn’t need an explanation if you know me.
3. Favourite defendant?AUGH this is tough too... They’re all really great in their own way.. Nick, himself, was a fave in Apollo Justice’s first case, cause he was a little shit, and that... case was something special for me for reasons.
4. Favourite prosecutor?Miles Edgeworth, absolutely.
5. Favourite ship?Narumitsu, Wrightworth. Phoenix Wright and Miles Edgeworth. ♥
6. Favourite victim?MY FAVORITE DEAD PERSON? OH MAN. Uuuhhh.. I guess Mia counts, right? Or Clay, despite getting ANYTHING on him other than him being a childhood/best friend of Apollo.
7. Favourite murderer?Godot. He counts, right? He murdered, right? Hands down, Godot.
8. Favourite assistant?Trucy!! ♥
9. Favourite witness?Hmm... L-.... Larry...?
10. Favourite quote?OH MAN.... NOT FAIR? “A lawyer is someone who smiles no matter how bad it gets.” ~Diego Armando
YOUR LEAST FAVOURITE…?
11. Least favourite Ace Attorney game?I don’t... have a least..? Maybe Justice For All?... Most of the cases seemed a little dull at times for me, but thankfully Franziska was amazing.
12. Least favourite case?Shit, idk.. Rise From The Ashes, cause Gant’s a fuckass, and Miles Edgeworth chooses death.
13. Least favourite defendant?Does Zak count?
14. Least favourite prosecutor?Manfred von Karma. Or the Payne brothers.
15. Least favourite ship?Anything incestuous (I absolutely mean Apollo and Trucy. :/ )
16. Least favourite victim?Shadi Smith? :P
17. Least favourite murderer?Probably Gant, again, cause he’s a fuck ass.
18. Least favourite assistant? This is an incorrect statement, there is no least favorite assistant. Hard pass.
19. Least favourite witness?OLDBAG.
20. Least favourite memory of Ace Attorney?GOD... this is hard.. uhh.. probably the  Miles Edgeworth chooses death. Cause it was just generally really upsetting?
DO YOU PREFER…?
21. Phoenix Wright or Apollo Justice?Husband or boyfriend? I will not choose.
22. Maya Fey or Trucy Wright?... Trucy.
23. Investigations or trials?Investigations were simple and never stressful, while trials were. But trials were more exciting.
24. College Phoenix or Hobo Phoenix?AUGH Hobo Nick. Hands down.
25. Klavier Gavin or Kristoph Gavin?Klavier all the way. Fuck glasses boy.
26. Ace Attorney or Ace Attorney Investigations?Aw man... I think non-investigations, cause Miles just made me feel stupid all the damn time.
27. Apollo’s perceive, Phoenix’s magatama or Athena’s Mood Matrix?Perceeiivveee... PERCEEIIIVVEEE.
28. Ace Attorney trilogy or Apollo Justice and Dual Destinies?Apollo Justice and Dual Destinies.
29. 3D models or sprites?I think 3D models.
30. Ema Skye as she is in Rise from the Ashes or Ema Skye as she is in Apollo Justice? Both are great, but I do miss the adorable, almost spirited child that Ema was before she cracked down on her work. Still a great gal, though!
MISCELLANEOUS
31. Did you like what they did to Phoenix in Apollo Justice?Do I like it? No. Do I understand what happened and why he is the way he turned out to be? Absolutely. Character growth, however bad it comes, is still great. He still came back up from what Kristoph did to him, and I’m proud of the man he became after.
32. Your opinion on Dai Gyakuten Saiban? When localize??
33. Do you think Dai Gyakuten Saiban and/or Miles Edgeworth Investigations 2 will get localised to the West?Mmm.. Part of me says no, but I still want to have hope.
34. Do you think Miles Edgeworth should get another Investigation-game or do you think another character deserves a spin-off?While I do want another Miles game, it would be SO cool to have a game for maybe Mia when she started out? Like joining Grossberg’s office, and Diego showing her the ropes. (And maybe so I can indulge a little in my Miego ship...)
35. Opinion on the soundtrack of the Ace Attorney-franchise?I loVE it.
36. Do you like where the franchise is heading or did you prefer the atmosphere in the original trilogy?Umm.. Little of both? I don’t want Nick to possibly be left behind. And I REALLY think Apollo should come back at some point. They did him dirty leaving him in Khura’in for an indefinite amount of time. I want him home with Nick, and Trucy, and Athena.
37. Capcom suddenly announces that Phoenix will no longer appear in the Ace Attorney franchise! Your reaction?FURIOUS.... But I’ll still play...
38. Capcom suddenly announces that the Ace Attorney franchise has ended for good! Your reaction?Massive disappointment.. upset.. I think.. Feeling like there’s no closure...?
39. Would you like there to be another Ace Attorney/Professor Layton crossover game?I have the first one, have yet to play it, but I think that would be cool! Maybe include Miles, or maybe Apollo in the second one?
40. Would you like an Ace Attorney anime?IRONICALLY, THERE IS ONE!
41. Opinion on anime cutscenes in Ace Attorney?I love it. I LOVE IT.
42. Would you want to play an Ace Attorney game where you take on the prosecutors role?If you mean not like Investigations, but like literally a mirror of the regular series, I think that would be fucking cool as shit. Instead of investigating scenes like the defense does, you, the prosecutor, interrogate the witnesses. Oooohhh....
43. Do you like having DLC in Ace Attorney-games?Mmmm... It’s nice having more stuff, but I’d rather they just spend the extra time and put it in the game rather than charge you for it later on.
44. Opinion on Lamiroir’s storyline?*fart noise* Rather not answer.
45. One thing you think the Ace Attorney games can improve on?Uuuhhh... Closure? For Apollo, I mean? I dunno, can’t really say
46. Capcom suddenly announces an Ace Attorney movie! Would you like it to be based on an already existing case or would you like an all new storyline? There already is a movie! And either would be great! It was only the first 4 cases, so maybe continuation for it? And new cases would be cool, too.
47. Capcom suddenly announces an Ace Attorney movie! Would you prefer it being live-action, 3D animated or 2D animated?Any of these are great, I have ZERO preferences.
48. If there could be an Ace Attorney crossover with whatever franchise you’d like, which one would you choose? (Does not need to be a video-game franchise)Hmm... Off the top of the my head, I think a crossover with Tiger & Bunny would be hilarious. (in a sad way, with Kotetsu needing all the aid he can get after destroying property... maybe this was a bad idea.)
49. Opinion on recurring witnesses? (Wendy Oldbag, Lotta Hart, Larry Butz, etc.)No opinion. It’s nice to seem them again.
50. Do you think Dual Destinies deserved its M-rating?Mmm... If I knew exactly what it was for, I could tell you. Maybe the blood? I’m not sure.
