Let's Talk About Krazy Kat

Someone should really adapt the Krazy Kat comic strip for modern audiences. It's inventive, funny, poetic, and incredibly weird. Not to mention it's got to be public domain by now. Also it's super gay, but I'll get to that in a minute.

Krazy Kat is a newspaper comic strip that ran from 1913 to 1944. It was created by George Herriman (1880--1944), a mixed-race American of Creole descent. An extremely modest person, Herriman never liked talking about himself and usually passed as white.

While the strip never quite achieved widespread popularity, Krazy Kat is considered one of the most influential American comics ever, and was cited as an inspiration by comic artists and illustrators such as Bill Watterson, Dr. Seuss, and Will Eisner. Newspaper mogul William Randolph Hearst liked it so much, he kept it running even though it wasn't popular. When Herriman died, Hearst canceled the strip, believing that no one could replace the original creator.

Herriman's art style is particularly notable for his beautiful desert backgrounds, which were inspired by the American southwest landscape.

There are three recurring main characters in the strip:

Krazy (he/him, usually) is a cat of generous and eccentric nature. Not exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer, but lovable and good-hearted all the same. Hopeless romantic.

Ignatz (he/him) is a mouse of the rude and egotistical type. He is arrogant and elitist, with an undying hatred for cats of all kinds. Basically the antithesis of Mickey Mouse.

Officer Pupp (he/him) is a police dog with a sure and steady attitude. He is mainly concerned with doing his job and arresting evildoers.

Essentially, the strip's premise comes down to a gay love triangle, and the various hijinks that ensue.

Krazy is hopelessly in love with Ignatz, often referring to him as "lil ainjil' and other pet names. He sees Ignatz's hostilities towards him as signs of love (masochism??), and won't be persuaded otherwise.

Ignatz despises Krazy and desires nothing more than to "bean that kat's brain with a brick". He is either unaware or uninterested in Krazy's obvious affections and persists in assaulting the kat.

Officer Pupp is often portrayed as being in love with Krazy, and strives to protect him from Ignatz's brick-throwing. Many strips end with Officer Pupp jailing Ignatz. Krazy is unaware of the dog's affections, and even if he wasn't, Ignatz is his only love.

As you can see, the comic's humor relies partly on it's reversal of typical conventions: instead of cat chases mouse, cat is in love with mouse, and mouse chases cat; instead of dog chases cat, dog is in love with cat, and chases mouse.

Probably the most iconic aspect of Krazy Kat is Ignatz's brick-throwing, which happens in nearly every strip. If you google images of Krazy Kat, you'll likely end up with something like this:

Did I mention Ignatz has a wife and kids? He does. They only show up a couple of times, and Krazy is perfectly aware of them, even helping them out in their time of need. It doesn't stop him from declaring his love, nor does Krazy's kindness stop Ignatz from throwing bricks. That's just how the world goes around.

Say, what is up with this weird comic anyway? Why does Krazy insist on his love even when Ignatz is clearly a horrible person? And why does Ignatz hate Krazy so much? Is this just a silly kat-and-mouse-komic, or is there something deeper here? Is this strip perhaps a commentary on racial relations (black kat & white mouse) or maybe a social satire of romantic relationships, heterosexual or otherwise? And why the heck is this newspaper strip contemplating human mortality all of a sudden!?

Yeah, I don't know either. I suspect that the 20th century comic-reading public did not necessarily get all the nuance and dynamics present in this strip. Which would explain why it was never popular in the mainstream but highly appealed to intellectuals and history nerds obsessing over niche comics.

So...is Krazy Kat queer? It's not exactly fair to apply 21st century terms to a 20th century comic strip. And yet Krazy and Ignatz's relationship, one-sided and abusive as it is, is the primary conflict of the strip. When asked directly about Krazy's gender, Herriman gave a nuanced and interesting answer:

The artist once replied this when questioned about the Kat's sex: "I don't know. I fooled around with it once; began to think the Kat is a girl--even drew up some strips with her being pregnant. It wasn't the Kat any longer; too much concerned with her own problems--like a soap opera. Know what I mean? Then I realized Krazy was something like a sprite, an elf. They have no sex. So that Kat can't be a he or a she. The Kat's a spirit--a pixie--free to butt into anything. Don't you think so? End ID}

Herriman's refusal to identify Krazy with one gender or the other has undoubtedly perplexed readers since the strip's run. Animated adaptations have been forced to give Krazy a gender, usually with the intention of making his love heterosexual. A short-lived cartoon in 1962 made Krazy female, with a female voice actor, while a comic book adaptation portrayed the kat as male, but with less emphasis on the romantic dynamic. In the original strip, however, Krazy cannot be constrained to any particular identity; he is only krazy.

oooh man, its time to feel some EMOTIONS!

I'm BACK after a hiatus, which was due in part to me getting my 1st dose of the covid vaccine! woohoo!

anyways, starting here w/issue 22....we have a great cover w/thunderclash, the legend himself

oof. the covers made me forget how much I don't like the art this issue...I hate to be mean to the artists but this art style just isn't doin it for me chief

god I love this issue though. the framing device of rewind’s movie is so so fantastic

also brainstorms response is just plain ole sad w/context, but at this point in the story without context, it just seems very foreboding lmao. I'm realizing this readthru that brainstorm is very sketchy and ominous in a particular ‘is he evil?’ mad scientist sorta way in early mtmte

and then everyone else is also just so OOF in their own unique sad ways, but I think the worst out of everyone is drift....GODDDDDD. especially considering that at this point in the story, drift is this kinda goofy hippy guy, so seeing him just sit there with his face in his hand, not even answering the question...AND knowing that shortly after this he’ll end up banished...IT FUCKING HURTS M8!

meanwhile, the more upbeat ‘quest to see rungs alt mode’ continues...with an ‘alt mode party’ vhbadkjsdfnabskjf it looks so silly with a bunch of cars just sitting around a table lmao

OHHH mannnnNNNNN i love this issue SO MUCH. what a good fun emotional rollercoaster wrap-up to mtmte s1. god.

like, this issue has it all - humor, drama, crippling sadness, intrigue, worldbuilding...it’s so excellent

and getting to see rewind again hurts so bad but also I love him

ok quick mtmte s1 retrospective...god s1 is so fucking good. I'm gonna have to read more to say which chunk of mtmte I liked best but s1 is so fucking excellent that it might be my favorite. though its hard to pick bc there's so much good stuff later on too...whatever, the point is s1 is so so good

the plotlines and characters are fucking stellar. like I cant even believe how well Everything works, its very impressive. I cant really think of anything major that made me go ‘yeah could've done without that plotline/character’

I love how dedicated jro is to connecting everything. I've mentioned it before but basically every single moment in the series has payoff - what you initially think is just a funny moment, or a fluffy character establishment bit, ends up ALSO being an important plot point later, in some way

an example would be here w/rung and his alt mode - it just seems like a fun little B-plot for this issue, and seems to pretty neatly conclude with the reveal that rung was eventually classified as an ‘ornament’ (lmao)...but we later on get to see a lot more about this, both here and in the functionist universe

and like, stuff like tailgate’s autobot lessons w/magnus - at first that can be seen as purely character establishment stuff, showing that magnus is a strict rule-lover and tg is a loveable try-hard good boy - but that becomes plot relevant in remain in light, with tailgate saving the day due to his knowledge of the autobot code (and its also character relevant, with magnus’s arc in remain in light).

and I know this is like. a normal regular thing in writing, but I'm just very impressed about how cleanly jro pulls it off, and how many things he’s juggling at once, especially in early mtmte - it’s very ambitious!

and we gotta remember, this is a comic book. I've read a lot of comic books, and the quality is all over the place. a lot of writers bite off more than they can chew, and the story ends up kinda scattered as a result.

another thing I see a lot in franchise writing like this is a lack of strong early character establishing due to the author assuming the readers are at least somewhat familiar with the characters already - which can be totally fair depending on where it is in the continuity, but other times it can come off as lazy

in mtmte, the cast is extremely well fleshed out, and not only that, the cast itself is unique in that there are a lot of relative unknowns (franchise-wise) - which I think was an absolutely brilliant move, because then jro was able to essentially create The Definitive Version of these characters - characters like swerve, brainstorm, chromedome, rewind, tailgate...mtmte is their baseline characterization, because they haven't really appeared in much else

this also allows for deviation from the franchise norms - again, a comic book classic is good writing being stifled by a need to stick to a certain status quo regard the characters, the world, the powers, relationships, etc

(I've mostly read DC comics, and some marvel, so I'm thinking superheroes w/all these comic comparisons)

so mtmte had a good recipe for genuine creativity in that the characters were relative unknowns, the plot was basically ‘space road trip,’ the status quo of ‘autobot vs decepticon war’ had been demolished throughout the entire franchise...so jro was able to take all that and run, and it turned out so fantastic

and luckily it isn't over yet! so many comics suffer from premature cancellation...and sadly mtmte/ll isn't exempt from this, as we’ll see later, but I've seen some awful ones, where comics are forced to wrap up in like 2 issues while in the middle of an arc. yikes.

but another comic staple...one of my least favorite things about comics books in general...something that was basically responsible for driving me away from comics after reading a bunch...the dreaded crossover event

yep, even mtmte isn't immune to this unfortunate plague on the comic industry. crossover events are the absolute worst, and I'm saying this as somebody who adores crossovers (in concept more than execution usually). they SHOULD be my favorite, but unfortunately they p much always completely suck

they're essentially a ploy to get you to read the other ongoing titles, but they usually only serve to bog down whatever story you're reading to the point where you don't even wanna read that one anymore, let alone read all the other ongoings. at least, that’s been my experience

it doesn't help that reading orders tend to be hard to find/keep track of, and that you need to go read the other series to know what's going on. I just hate it, like, I came here to read THIS series, I don't want a bunch of other series showing up too - even if I was reading two series, I wouldn't want them crossed over, because they're separate stories! augh!

I'm totally losing my focus here but my point is...crossover events suck, and mtmte unfortunately is involved in one. I have not read dark cybertron, and I'm not about to. I've heard nothing but bad things so I have no desire to inflict that upon myself

soooo ill be reading through the tfwiki articles for those issues to give myself a better understanding of what went on - which is more than I've ever done in the past - and maybe ill even make a single post summarizing my thoughts on what I read in the wiki, lmao

but yea ill be skipping to the mtmte s2 stuff next

My oc’s aka too long of a gd post

The “BL” Crew (does not stand for boys love I’m just a moron who made that abbreviation before knowing what it stands for). My main crew and main series, a lot is a big WIP right now as I’m slowly redoing the first book and all the lore. Why? I love torture. Book is fantasy type but I won’t specify what.

Lacie, the protagonist. God tier idiot, bisexual bipolar depressed MESS, insomniac, former theater kid, doesn’t know what she wants out of life but currently it is not This(plot of book). Hot headed, impulsive, crude, rude, Mommy IssuesTM, would rather be taking a nap right now, rules are made to be broken, absolutely fucking FERAL, more bags under her eyes than the airport lost and found. 5’5, 130lbs, Aries, age 18, white as shit like literally the whitest human you have ever seen, strawberry blonde hair in a 2011 Hayley Willaims haircut with long bangs, the darkest brown eyes you’ve ever seen that stare directly into your soul. Lanky, no curves, body of a 12 year old boy but works out so she can and will kick your ass and thats a threat. Not human?

Josh. Soft boy, smart, Lacie’s cousin and only friend for like the first 18 years of her life, autistic anxious mess who’s special interest is anchient egyptian history, is in honors classes, despises math, passes out when his girlfriend looks too cute, just needs a hug. Can eat a whole carton of easy mac if left alone, whole wardobe is the same outfit just different colors/hoodies, sensory issues, seriously can someone give this guy a hug. 5’9, 150lbs, Pisces, age 18, mixed (half whatever flavor of white Lacie’s family is [they don’t even know its just some scandanavian shit and irish], and half mexican on his mom’s side), medium olive skin with freckles and moles, dark chocolate brown hair that’s a bit of a 2009 Beiber cut, warm brown eyes, not beefy, a lil thicc and self concious about it but squishy boys are GOOD. Gets bit by a werewolf so now he is one his mood on it is “thats a lot to unpack but let’s just throw the whole suitcase away”.

Zander. There is not one braincell in this man, himbo KING, pansexual dumbass with undiagnosed ADHD, no impulse control, head empty and full at the same time, PTSD, his fashion sense should be an actual crime, gets in fights to feel something, basic requirements for him to be attracted to you: kick his ass. Drinks his respect women juice, sees a folding table and must immediately launch himself on it, chaotic, cannot drive a car and will not, food aggression and eats enough for 3 people but never gains weight which is ILLEGAL, him and Lacie may be a couple.....but in this house we stan slow burn, he talks in caps and every sentence either ends with a question mark or exclaimation point, likes romcoms. 6’2, 190lbs, Sagittarius, age 19, austrailian roots and has the accent but is from [REDACTED FOR STORY REASONS], white, dorito shaped with long legs, blueish black hair that’s long and messy, dark navy eyes that match his hair, bigass neck scar from [REDACTED]. Not human

Peter. Gay dad friend who is TIRED of having to be in charge of a bunch of teenagers, only one with full functioning braincells, lowkey a genius who loves engineering, mixes magical technology with human technology because he likes to play god, is he ever sober? No one knows, will kill for a bottle of single malt, his fashion sense? Tastefully expensive suits perfectly tailored. Likes building his own weapons that no one else knows how to even use, generally non-threatening but can get scary if needed. 6’4, 140lbs string bean man, Scorpio, age 179 but looks early 30s, I know I said Lacie is the whitest human but he’s even paler like a literal sheet of paper with scandanavian roots/ancestors were vikings or some shit, blonde hair styled like 2013 Brendon Urie lmfao, light crystal blue eyes. He’s a vampire and was born one.

Danielle. Tiny, sweet, queen of girls supporting girls, comments on all her friends instagram posts with 20 emojis, LOVES fashion and has a wardrobe that would make anyone jealous, oozes feminine energy, only child and parents are in love still, gets exactly 8 hours of sleep each night and wakes up looking like a disney princess. Just because she is small and cute doesn’t mean you should underestimate her she WILL fuck your shit up. Quiet when angey which is terrifying. Josh is her bf and she loves him so much but also loves teashing the shit out of him. Legally cannot cuss, polite, used her high heels as a weapon once, speaks like 5 languages because studying them is her hobby, gardens, hugs everyone. 5’0, 110, Taurus, age 18, mixed (half french-american, half Korean-american), glowy skin always, PETITE frame aka the friend everyone can pick up when they hug, long past her waist curly brown hair, bright green eyes. She’s not fully human as she has fae blood in her and this gives her the ability to talk to and control plants. Flower crowns for everyone

Becca. Theater kid who would die to sing in Wicked and has the vocal range to do so, cannot wait to graduate and go to her dream college which she got into and a scholarship, closeted lesbian bc her whole giant family is extremely catholic and she feels like not dealing with it, “no boys allowed in bedroom” rule is her favorite joke, chill, middle child of 5 siblings and just wants some peace and quiet for ONCE. Big nerd energy, has to draw on everything including homework, gets inspiration for comics from his friends, awkward and socially anxious, drinks way too much tea and will accidentally steal your pens. I mean.. I try to follow the canon as close as I can. I’ve read the comics, anayalzed him to hell and back and just.. yeah. I follow canon, but I also add in my own twists here and there so that he’s still following canon, but still... different? If that makes sense.

In my eyes, he is the ideal enforcer.. in that he isn’t biassed towards who he brings to justice. You can be an Autobot, Decepticon, Neutral, Alien, or hell even human and he’d still make sure you are given a fair trial with the proper lawyer because you still broke the law.

He is very sassy when he needs to be as in, he isn’t afraid to put you in your place, especially when he’s protecting someone. If you’re going to make assumptions about someone, 10/10 he’s going to shove facts into your face about how WRONG you are and then proceed to ripe you a new one all without so much as twitching once. I love this.

Despite being stern and seemingly emotionless, he’s not really. He just keeps all those emotions inside for the most part and rarely shows them. He is essentially selfless, caring and willing to protect anyone who needs protecting. He has issues of his own, but he’s willing to put said issue to the side to take care of your issues and your wellbeing because those matter to him more. The moments he allows himself to open up and be vulenable for just a second it.. it truly is heartwrenching, but in a good way.

NOW THE OPPOSITE! (list everything why your muse could not be so interesting (even if you may not agree, what does the fandom perhaps think?)

He’s a work-a-holic, in that he will put his work before anything else. Even at the expense of his heath. He’s stubborn like that.

He doesn’t know how to relax or have fun, at least in the ways others do. While others want to get rip-roaring drunk and party, he avoids those sorts of scenes at all costs and may even start to issue citations because there are rules being broken.

Oh yeah.. he’s a stickler for rules. Will never break one no matter what, so that can make him a kill-joy. He’s also prone to cleaning obsessively because of his OCD and anxiety and just doesn’t know how to strike up a proper converstation.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO RP YOUR MUSE?

I’ve been wanting to RP as Ultra Magnus / Minimus Ambus for like the longest of times since I came across him in the comics the first time he came out, but I was so shy and had anxiety about tackling such a big role. I kept putting it off because I didn’t think I could portray him correctly or others wouldn’t like how I wrote him. I finally gave in though because someone I admired wanted me to try after I mention wanting to try my hand at him and since I gave up so many others I wanted to RP as, I thought this time.. I’m going to do it and so I did. While I do still have some anxiety regarding my portrayal among other things, I’m enjoying myself and I’m glad others are actually enjoying my portrayal as well. You have no idea how much that means to me really. Besides I just.. find him so interesting really. He’s a gentleman, intelligent, resourceful, handsome (in my eyes), loves the arts and needs to be loved honestly.

WHAT KEEPS YOUR INSPIRATION GOING?

I guess the fact that I’m enjoying writing this muse and that others are enjoying him as well? Really, if it wasn’t for some of you I probably wouldn’t have taken on Minimus and just wondered about it like I did with other muses I wanted to try my hand at.

I think everyone does really. It helps not only you but your muse as well. It helps you get a better feeling on your muse and expand their background and whatnot, so yeah. I do.

Not.. really? Considering it’s my headcanon and it’s my interepation of the muse, not theirs. I mean I’m open to new headcanons and if I like it, I may addapt it to my own but I also can refuse it if I feel like it doesn’t fit with my portrayal. If you don’t like my portrayal, you’re welcome to unfollow. Not that hard really.

I don’t ever rush others for replies since I know real life always comes first. I also don’t force interactions or shipping or what-have-you. How strictly do you follow canon? — there isnt much canon to go off of i think? the album barely even states if ziggy is an alien and b*wie himself got really wishy washy about it (sometimes saying z is a human who was contacted by aliens, he was an alien himself, etc). i dont think we know anything about him besides what he looks like (red hair / weird eyes / pale / “well hung” lmao) and he has a band called the spiders from mars, he plays the guitar left handed, he’s bisexual + androgynous, and he’s charming and popular with the teens but inevitably is a victim of his own ego. and he dies. that too. but that’s literally it! we know Nothing else about him. so i filled in all the gaps because my brain has worms. theres a little bit of the story that verges on fantasy (that he’s some sort of messiah messenger for “the infinites,” whatever the fuck THAT means, david) so i nix that because i prefer hard scifi. and theres one BIG part that i just ... deleted out of his canon, in that the world is ending in 5 years in his timeline, and he’s like ... aware of this ? but that’s dumb and confusing. i legit dont care anymore. my OC now.

Aka try to list everything, which makes your muse interesting in your opinion to make them spicy for your mutuals. — im so embarrassed i know i could be genuine and actually try but i have brain blockajjolajlakala33lak33klak333ak3jka3akjj323j3 i guess it’s like ... ziggy is truly the ultimate expression OF humanity because he reveals everything both wrong and right about the human condition, he literally embodies the best of humanity and the worst at the same time, he’s a really interesting critique on the idea of genuineness/earnestness vs commercalism in art, the perils of fame, and also how humans are so inherently corrupting? a lot of thematic stuff i like exploring is like what is innate to humans vs what is learned behavior, what are things that humans do naturally that ziggy mimics out of his desire to be like us? i think he has a really good story arc -- he went from being a literal nameless CLONE in a society full of pragmatic forward thinking science-oriented people to a sell out rockstar celebrity in a society of people that value individualism and self expression and art, but in the process completely lost his mind and himself and gave into the worst that humanity has to offer like rampant selfishness, drug abuse, self destructive tendencies, etc. characters changing is always interesting and ziggy truly changes for the worse -- but he is never just black and white, he was never good and then suddenly evil, he just was always the same person putting on different facades and trying to be himself by constructing an identity that maybe was who he wanted to be versus who he actually is. i dont know what im talking about. hes just an alien trying to be too hard to be human in all the wrong ways. i just like how “gray” ziggy is. he isnt good or bad, he can be very nice and he can be very mean, he’s overtly showboating confident but at the same time deeply afflicted with self-consciousness (why tf else would anyone be So obsessed with how they present themselves?). hes an icon of individualism but also commercialism. he’s freakishly alien but is almost more human than humans themselves. he struggles as lot in his head -- which makes for interesting writing, i guess !! Im so emabrrased im not going to go back and read what i wrote so if i typoed dont look at me

Now the OPPOSITE, list everything why your muse could not be so interesting (even if you may not agree, what does the fandom perhaps think?). — i think ziggy comes across as really mean and nothing else. his horrible bitchy rudeness comes across as hee hee hoo hoo sassy isnt he a rascal when it’s supposed to be more like ... he’s so far gone into the celebrity delusion he’s conflated aggressive rudeness with charmingness because no one told him otherwise and everyone worships him to the point where he’s just given into the delusion that he can do no wrong. i think theres the general simplification problem that happens with a lot of fictional characters, it’s easy to see him as just a whacky sassy glittery quirky rockstar when i guess it avoids the inherent tragedy of like ... everything else about him. his totally fake and false sense of identity built up from superficial things like fame and labels and stardom. maybe my version of ziggy is just too weirdly depressing and sad when i know his original iteration wasn’t quite so ... grim. im not very sure tbh.

What inspired you to rp your muse? — hmmm ... a lot of things! i just really got into b*wie stuff in early 2019, i’ve ALWAYS loved aliens and sci-fi, and i was really shocked that db sets up such great visual storytelling potential but does it through music. i just really liked ziggys “story” and i like any chance to think about aliens so i just got invested into piecing together a little backstory for him using, like, the cumulative knowledge of literally every other piece of science fiction ive ever consumed in my life. this was summer 2019 when i was making initial pitches for my thesis film, and so i just randomly decided to pitch “animated version of ziggy stardust” as one of the potential ideas. shockingly everyone liked it a lot and so did my professor who thought it was really cool, and then i just ended up sticking with the character and working on him for an entire year. ziggy became my hobby but also my homework. he was such a fun character because everything about him was interesting to me and i had just enough source material to have a starting point but so much room to take him in any direction i wanted to.

What keeps your inspiration going? — honestly, yooooou guyssssss. i have some really amazing fwends that ive met thru here .... and some of our dumb stupid stories have literally become NOVEL length. it just self generates inspiration because you realize the limitless amount of stories you could tell with this one single character when your character enters his story or he enters their story and etc. etc. ive drawn endless amounts of comics and stuff for him ... ziggy is just so endlessly interesting ... cringe be cringed bro but recently (i know this sounds dumb bear with me or die.) ive kind of realized a lot of how i rp z comes as some metaphor for the experience of being an asian immigrant/being asian in the US -- his home “culture” is a lot stricter than the rampant selfish individualism of the usa (he only lives in the uk and usa, so he thinks the whole planet is like this), he’s dissuaded from standing out from his community and his selfishness becomes a community burden rather than a personal flaw, and when he does come to earth, he goes through such awful culture shock, literally nothing makes sense to him and everything is Different. and while some things are different in a Nice way, something things are different in an Awful way, and he’s given the option between losing his true personal identity as an atominan and giving it up to be a human. the allure of being a human is a little too much but losing yourself like this is traumatic, in a way. obvs like ... a little silly and definitely not something that i actively intended to put into his story arc, its just something that fell into place cuz i guess i worked so closely with my own personal experiences and feelings of “alienation” (pun intended) to try to understand how he would feel being a literal alien an shid. its cathartic to write about him. but he also has a lot of my own personal interests just thrown in -- 70s fashion, scifi, science, tryhard implications about human nature, art history, whatever dumb nonsense i get into

Do you accept criticism well about your portrayal? — definitely! like i said ... my version of ziggy ended up being the protag of my thesis film and for 1 yr straight his characterization, backstory, design, and even how i wanted to animate his fucking movements (ziggy stardust timing charts.) were beaten to death in a classroom environment, torn apart and rebuilt into something better. had i stayed with what i originally wanted to go with, ziggy would be so different than how i write him 2day. amazingly my pre production professor is a literal two time emmy award winning storyboard artist and animator so he definitely helped me design him (my version of ziggy is meant for ... a cartoon, obviously, not real life) and give him a better backstory? and my post production professor is a retired disney animator who worked on hercules and a bunch of old disney channel shows? had i gone wah wah wah i dont want to hear ur critiques i wouldnt have made him better. if you ever think ziggy seems inconsistent or poorly written ... tell me !! i literally major in ... animation. cartoons. entertainment. my job is to entertain you. if you are not entertained, there is a problem. Q1: IF YOU COULD WRITE YOUR CHARACTER YOUR WAY IN THEIR OWN MOVIE, WHAT WOULD IT BE CALLED, WHAT STYLE WOULD IT BE FILMED IN, AND WHAT WOULD IT BE ABOUT?

•So, I'm already making a comic that I want to make as an animation for the story of FFXIV with my character and her friends. This character was specifically built for FFXIV, but it has a twist. Kinda like a Sword Art Online ordeal, but instead of Millions of people playing are stuck in the world, it's just like 100, but they aren't stuck, in fact they are just chosen to go between their world and Eorzea. If they die, they don't actually die, but respawn, even in their own world, but they feel how they die and the only way for them to die in any shape or form is by natural cause like old age or sickness. This would be a 2D animation in the anime style and be a multi episode series with multiple seasons. I even though about branching out to go certain routes so that Lyllyan can end up with all my favorite characters. I would call it Final Fantasy XIV: A World Reborn.

•With it being a Final Fantasy story, it would have Final Fantasy Music.

Q3: WHY DID YOU START WRITING THIS CHARACTER?

•Lyllyan Weiss was made to represent me and she still does, but also inspires me to be more like my courageous heroic self. Because of this, I have been able to do things like crossing a bridge that's in bad shape to get to the other side without the fear of falling, just to get back to my mom who went to the other side on a trip we had.

Q4: WHAT FIRST ATTRACTED YOU TO THIS CHARACTER?

•She is literally me.

Q5: DESCRIBE THE BIGGEST THING YOU DISLIKE ABOUT YOUR MUSE.

•Just like me, she is stubborn and hard working, but there are times she pushes herself way too much. She hesitates to ask for help, not because she doesn't trust the people around her, but more of trying to not burden them. Others wish she would open up to them and also rest when she can. Raha has to literally force her to rest, and she nearly gets herself killed against the first battle with Rahjit because she kept getting back up to fight even when the others beg her to stop.

Q6: WHAT DO YOU HAVE IN COMMON WITH YOUR MUSE?

•Almost everything. Major thing is that she doesn't look like me, but also I know when to quit.

• I feel like if Lyllyan and I were to meet in person, we'd get along just fine. We would play video games all day long if we could.

•OH BOI HERE WE GOOO

- Leveilleur Twins: Alphinaud and Alisaie are very close to Lyllyan. Alphinaud used to pull Lyllyan out of class to have her hurry up and go through the story, now its chill and play ace attorney. Alphinaud, depending on what route is taken, is definitely in love with Lyllyan and is constantly teased about it by everyone. Alisaie is like a sister to Lyllyan. They have had many nights where the pulled 24 hours playing Sims. Alisaie is who Lyllyan tries to protect the most between the two. She's also the reason why Lyllyan is now Bi. Lyllyan absolutely adores her and if the route is taken, they end up being the cutest couple.

-Leon D'hart: An Alt character that I made that depending on the story and route, he is also Lyllyan's Lover. He is a character made by Square Enix to be the Warrior of Light replacement if Lyllyan did not succeed in preventing herself becoming a light warden. His story with her is a bunch of trial and tribulations, but in the end they do end up married.

-G'raha Tia/Crystal Exarch: The main story Lyllyan's Lover. Great friend to start out and tears were shed when he sealed himself into the tower. He really kept Lyllyan guessing when he was Exarch. When Emet-Selch kidnapped him, Lyllyan was hellbent on getting him back. Now she visits him at the first everyday bring stuff from Eorzea for him, and even occasionally stuff from her world. He is her world as she is to him.

-The Scions: Thancred and Lyllyan are like Big brother, Little sister. He protects her, and scolds her as such. They may act like they hate each other, but the moment either gets hurt, the other is at their sides. Though rumor has it that Thancred had feelings for Lyllyan. Y'shtola is close to Lyllyan, but is usually not around often. Shtola usually is often around to keep an eye on Lyllyan's aether since her amount is quite high compared to the others and her fellow Warriors of Light. Urianger is someone who used to hardly talk to Lyllyan, but started opening up more after the years. He had watched her grow from 15 moons to now 21 as the others, but they seem to be more special to him. Lyllyan swore to protect him if anything ever happened especially after he asked her her thoughts on his new attire. Tataru is a precious angel and if anyone was to hurt her, Lyllyan would kill everyone and then herself. Ryne, even though she is not a scion, she is a scion. Ryne worries about Lyllyan, but is often in awe of her. Lyllyan and Thancred adopted her, and she's ended up calling Lyllyan mom on many occasions.

-Ser Aymeric: Depending on the route, he would be Lyllyan's Lover and he tries to protect her when he can, be it politics or in war. He has a dream to journey with her, and though he can't do so with Lylyan Weiss the Au Ra, there is nothing saying he can't make a character and become a Warrior of Light himself and travel with Sakura Yue(Lyllyan's Alt).

-Zenos Yae Galvus: So this guy commits Seppuku and then shows up at Lyllyan's job as her new Bartender. They end up becoming friends through the job, and the fact that Zenos is bored out of his mind that he can't go kill people,but finding out later that he is back makes Square Enix themselves worried about this guy.

-Estinien: Lyllyan had adopted him as her Edgy Son. He hates it. He reminds her that he is older than him, and she retorts about beating him as a Lalafel. He usually starts brooding after that on a high building that usually takes Alphinaud and Ser Aymeric to get him down.

•Music and Playing Final Fantasy. Mainly XIV, but others do count too, but also reading all the other fanfiction and comics about final fantasy XIV.

Kwami OCs and Hero's for a fanfic.

These are Kwamis and Heroes for a fanfic. The kwamis are mine, the characters themselves aren't. If you wish to do fan art of the kwamis, let me know. And yes, Chloe is good in this fanfic. @friendlyneighborhoodborg and I are working on outfits, so you'll find those out later. Now:

Bonezz: a skeleton kwami, she's rude, but does try her best to help others. her miraculous is a skull barrett and the weapon is a bone staff. the special ablity is Bone Brigade, which repeatedly stabs the enemy. A male hero is called Bone Face. A female hero is called Miss Bones.

Juuk: A music note kwami who is shy, to the point of rarely speaking her thoughts. Her miraculous is a music note bowtie. Her weapon is a microphone, and her special ability is Sonic Shout, which can shatter windows. A male hero is called Baritone. A female hero is called Pitch.

Wishh: A genie kwami, she wll grant the wishes of whoever weilds her. Her miraculous is, well, the Genie's lamp. The weapon is the lamp itself, and the ability is Wish Granted. A male hero is called The Blue Genie. A female hero is called Wish Mistress.

UFK: A UFO kwami whose name is short for Unidentified Flying Kwami. Their miraculous is the UFK eye contact miraculous. The weapon is the eye contact, which can either perfom one of two abilities; Scan(doesn't use power) and Abduct(which does start the five minute timer and can make an enemy vanish). A male hero is UFO-Man. A female hero is Lil-UFO.

Bakuu: A Baku kwami who spends her time sleeping or helping others sleep, AKA, she's ok with normal people seeing her. Her miraculous is the Baku Cane, which is also the weapon. The ability is Sleepy, which actually puts a teamate to sleep so they can get extra time after using their special ability. A male hero is Mr. Baku. A female hero is called Drowzee-Hypno(which are Pokemon based on Bakus).

Shrimpee: A shrimp kwami who is sassy, comical, and silly. His miraculous is the Shrimp Headband. The weapon is a shrimp shaped gun that shoots....Shrimp. The special ability is Teeny Tiny, which shrinks enemies.A male hero is called Big Shrimp. A female hero is called Le Crevette(The Shrimp in French).

Ursa Major & Ursa Minor: A mother-son kwami duo, these to are exactly what you'd expect. Major is motherly and loving, Minor is tough and over-confidant. Their miraculouses are the Bear Gloves and Cub gloves. Their weapons are brass knuckles. Major's special ability is Motherly, which allows the user to heal their partners and restore their timer. Minor's is Confidant. Male heroes are called Papa Bear and Kid Bear. Female heroes are called Mama Bear and Baby Bear.

Icee & Fiire: Two tin kwamis, both are mischievous, yet friendly. Icee has a Winter Necklace for males(Icee is male), while Fiire has a Summer Necklace for females(Fiire is female). Their weapons are dual guns that shoot fire and ice. They share the ability Dual blast. A male hero is called Frosty. A female hero is Heat.

Seven Sea: The Parrot Kwami whose name is actually Parro but prefers Seven Seas which (headcanon) Anarka gave her. She is like a stereotypical pirate and was disguised as (headcanon) Anarka's parrot when she was 5. Her Miraculous is the Parrot Eyepatch(which (headcanon) Anarka unknowing stored away in a drawer, which is why Seven Seas "disappeared". Her weapon is a Cutlass. The ability is Parrot's Call, which allows a nearby hero to be called to the parrot user. A male hero is called Captain Parrot. A female hero is called Captain Seven Seas.

Ninjjii: The Ninja Kwami...Who changes gender according to their holder. Ninjii's miraculous is the Ninja Mask. Their weapon is....Normal ninja tools. Their special Ability is Smokey Clone, which creates smoke clones. A male holder is Darkness Ninja. A female hero is Shadow.

Eyezz: The Owl Kwami and the very thing the Damocles saw as a child and inspired him to be Dark Owl. He is..Well, wise. His miraculous is the Owl Glasses. The weapon is the cape itself. The ability is Wise Sight, which allows the user to see the future. A male hero is, well, Dark Owl. A female hero is Future Owl.

Hallo: A Pumpkin Kwami. She was born when A woman started the trick or treating craze. Her miraculous is the Pumpkin Hat. the weapon is a Pumpkin Bowling Ball. The ability is Trick-Or-Treat, which either trick the enemy into hurting themselves or treat the heroes with a temporary weapon upgrade. A male hero is called Pumpking. A female hero is called Lady Halloween.

Petaal: The Flower Kwami. He has a sterotypical gay accent. His miraculous is the Flower Hairclip. the Weapon is a Flower Wand. The ability is Flower Power, which makes Flowers grab the enemy. A male hero is Called Flower Man. A female hero is called Flower Queen.

Spectre: The Ghost Kwami. She's actually the spirit of a young girl who studied Kwamis and it's rumored throughout Francois Dupont that she was Ms. Mendeliev's daughter. Her Miraculous is a hood that she was rumored to have gotten form Mendeliev. The weapon...There is none actually, only her intelligence. Her ability isn't ghost related, it's actually related to chemistry(she creates nitrogen bombs, oxygen bombs, hydrogen bombs, etc). A male hero is called Paranormal. A female hero is actually called Chemistry Lass.

Hopp: The Frog Kwami. He is very sassy, and sarcastic. His miraculous is the Frog Headphones(actually Earmuffs). The weapon is a hand cannon. The special ability is Dimension Hop. Bunnyx usually has the frog holder use this for her to jump through. A male holder is called Hypno-Frog.a female holder is called Dimension-Frog.

Leona: The Lioness Kwami. She is, well, prideful and serious. Her miraculous is the Lioness Crown. The weapon is a scepter. The ability is Prideful Roar, which fills teamates with pride, nobility, courage, and bravery. A male holder is called King Lion. A female holder is called Lioness.

Faang: A bat Kwami. She is vampirc, but enjoys spending her time sunbathing and eating garlic bread. Her Miraculous is the Bat Bowtie. The weapon is a bat shaped boomerang, in reference to Batman. The ability is Health suction, where the user absorbs all nearby enemy health.A male user is called Count Vlad. A female user is called Baroness Blood.

Finn: A Shark Kwami. He is upbeat and outgoing, and loves singing. His miraculous is the Shark Earring. The weapon is a pistol. The ability is Shark Frenzy, which allows Finn himself to sing for teamates to give them a morale boost. A male hero is called Sharktooth. A female hero is called Depths.

Mummee: The Mummy Kwami. She constantly claims to have served a pharaoh. Her miraculous is the Mummy Ankh. The weapons are a crook and flail. The ability is mummify, which mummifies the enemy for a short time period. A male hero is called King Tut. A female hero is called Pharaohpatra.

Nevermore: The Raven Kwami. She is dark, depressing, and quiet, usually saying Nevermore all the time. Her miraculous is the Raven Mirror. the weapon is the mirror itself. The ability is Mirror Reflection, which reflects any attacks. A male hero is called E.A.P. A female hero is called Mirrora.

Rexx: A T-Rex kwami. She is an idiot who is all about being extreme.. Nothing else. Her miraculous is the T-Rex Choker. The weapon is a clamp. The ability is Growth. A male hero is named T-Wrecker. A female hero is Biterz.

Roboo: A Robot Kwami. It is pretty happy, and doesn't think before it acts. It's miraculous is the Robot Ring. The weapon is a laser gun. The ability is Heat Laser. A male hero is called Reboot. A female hero is called KOKORO.

Imp: The Demon Kwami. Despite being a demon, she's actually very sweet and shy. Her miraculous is the Demon Ring. The weapon is a Bow and Arrow. The ability is Demonic Possession, where a shot arrow hits an enemy and turns them against their partners. A male hero is called Incubus. A female hero is called Sucubus.

Halo: The Angel Kwami. Despite being an angel, she's stubborn and narcistic. Her miraculous is the Angel Ring. The weapon is a Bow and Arrow. The ability is Love All, where teamates affected by hat attacks are healed. a male hero is called Raphael. A female hero is called Angelina.

Midnight: The Moon Kwami. He is smart and calm, unlike his younger sister. His miraculous is the Moon Glove. The weapon is a Moon Hammer. The ability is Weremoon, which transforms the user into a werewolf. A male hero is called Were-Lad. A female hero is called The Wolf.

Midday: The Sun Kwami. She is dimwitted and overexcited unlike her older brother. Her miraculous is the Sun Glove. The weapon is a Sun Hammer. The ability is called Rising Phoenix, which turns the holder into a phoenix. A male holder is called Fire Feather. A female holder is called Flying Phoenix.

Gemi N Mini: The Gemini Kwami. These two kwamis are literally ying and yang. Their miraculous are the Gemini Bracelets. which split the holder into two completely different people. The weapon are the Gemini Nunchuks. The ability is 2x2, which splits the holder and their double into two, resulting in a total of four. A male holder is called Kid Multiply. a female holder is called X4.

Bamboo: The Panda Kwami. She's mute, but is usually very emotional. Her miraculous is the Panda Brace. The weapon is a spear. The ability is Spotty, which blinds the enemy with spots. A male holder is called Monsier Spot. A female hero is called Bamboo Stick.

Quickling: The Hedgehog Kwami. She is impatient, fast talking, and quick thinking. Her miraculous are....A pair of Hedgehog Shoes. The user has no weapon has no weapon, just her speed. The ability is Ultra Speed, which makes her user go 4 times as fast as usual. A male holder is named after Sonic the hedgehog, Sonic. A female holder is named Speedburst.

Bullhoorn: The Bull Kwami. She is a videogame lover. That's all. Her Miraculous is the Bull Headband. The weapon are two twin lances. The ability is Bull Rush, where the user can charge at enemies with no pain. A male hero is called El Grande. A female hero is called Ella Mucho.

Tentacll: The Octupus Kwami. He is wise and smart. His miraculous is the Octopus Gauntlets. The weapon are eight suction cup whips. The ability is Suction, which helps the user climb. A male hero is called Eight Arms. A female hero is called Octi.

Camma: The chameleon Kwami. Shy, naive, and innocent, she is easily tricked. Her Miraculous is the Chameleon Hat. The weapon is a mace. The ability is Blend In, which allows the user to appear as someone else. A male hero is called Look-A-Like. A female hero is called Karmeleon.

Webb: The Spider Kwami. She is elegant, ladylike, and patient. Her miraculous is the Spider Violin. The weapon is a net. The ability is Spider's Net, where the user plays a soothing song to lure the enemy near. A male hero is called Tarantula. A female hero is called Musical Web.

Grimm: the Death Kwami. Believe it or not, she's very lively and lives anything living, like plants and animals, and is scared of ghosts, zombies, skeletons, etc. Her miraculous is the Death Mask. The weapon is a scythe. The ability is Swipe of Death, which kills the enemy's ability to use their power for 10 minutes. A male hero is called Grim Creeper. A female hero is called Death Scythe.

Tussk: the Elephant Kwami. She is serious and holds grudges, due to her great memory. Her miraculous is the Elephant Lip Piercing. The weapon is the Elephant Lance. The ability is Memorize, which enhances the users memory for a short time period. A male hero is called Memoro. A female hero is called Peanut.

Puunk: The Life Kwami. She is the exact opposite of Grimm, being brave and loud. Her miraculous is the Life Goggles. The weapon is a wrench. The ability is Birth, with brings plants or machines to life. A male holder is called Life Punk. A female holder is called Steam Punk.

Borgg: The Giraffe Kwami. A lover of writing and music, he is usually found in a music shop when not with his holder. His miraculous is the Giraffe Neckband. The weapon is the Giraffe Stick(it's actually very strong).The ability is Growth, which makes the holder taller. A male hero is called Great Height. A female hero is called Madame Height.

Blaackk: The Knight Kwami. Mute, quiet, and serious, many of her holders feared her. Her miraculous is the Knight's Helmet. The Weapon is a Sword and Shield. The Ability is Knight, which turns a nearby citizen into a knight to help. A male hero is called Sir Miraculous. A female hero is called The Black Knight.

Headzz: The Hydra Kwami. She seems to have DID and seems to give it to holders only when used. Her miraculous is the Hydra Necklace. The weapons are five different railguns. The ability is Persona-Change, which changes the users personality to fit the situations. A male used is called 5-mind. A female user is called Dupli-Brain.

Hoowl: The Wolf Kwami. She's a huge fan of Plagg's, looking up to him and trying to copy him, despite being higher up than him. Her miraculous is a ring, like Plagg's. The weapon is also a staff. Her ability is Bone Structure, which rebuilds things, unlike Cataclysm. A male hero is called Chien Noir. A female hero is called Wooflette.

Seconnd, Minuute, and Hourr: The Clockwork Kwamis. Each of these there kwami sisters resemble a clock hand. Their miraculouses are the Clockwork Hand Barrettes. The weapon is a sword in the shape of a clock hand. their abilit is Past(Seconnd), Present(Minuute), and Future(Hourr). Male and Female heroes are called Past, Present, and Future.

Fissh: The Penguin Kwami. He is elegant and smart. His miraculous is the Penguin Bowtie. The weapon is a fish shaped club. The ability is Freeze. A male hero is called Monsieur Poisson. A female hero is called Femme de Glace.

Seeed: The Hamster Kwami. She is naive, sweet, and innocent. Her miraculous is the Hamster Backpack. The weapon are a wide array of weapons in the backpack. The ability is Copy Ham, which duplicates the user so they can use more than one weapon. A male hero is called Hammy. A female hero is called Fille de Graine.

Goro. She is the Gorilla Kwami of Healing. Her miraculous is a pair of bongos, which are also the weapons. The special ability is Bongo Repair, which heals teamates. Hi! I'm still kinda new to the blog and I was wondering what are the 'do and do-not' kind question I should do? Because im sure theres always that one ask thats just Innapropiated, like that one of Michael 'taking advantage og high Jeremy' that was just not cool. i got this ask a lot so ill be clear with yall. im just not a big angst fan? so sending michael asks about his anxiety nonstop and about how he had a panic attack in the bathroom over and over again wasnt that fun. usually if it pertains the musical though you should be find sending an ask about it? but sometimes i get asks that are like “jeremy ur nothing and how does it feel knowing u fucked everything up” like homie how i think its feels? how u think hes gunna react to that? i made this blog to negate a lot of negativity in my own life so i can promise u im going to be answering asks mostly positive always forever. that being said tho i sometimes get asks pertaining to a few things that ive dealt with in the past and these topics make me very very uncomfortable. dont send asks about these topics please. this is the no no list

What was your inspiration for this blog? hoo boy well,,, ultimately i thought of them rooming together and got emotional and made a huge list of headcanons and was like ,,, why not run an askblog for a bit ill just abandon it after three asks lets have some fun. but somehow im still here and i got sucked in by the complexity of michael and jeremy. i know that sounds kinda silly but just, as someone who is dealing with a lot of similar things, like dependency issues and abandonment issues and depression and anxiety, having these fun functioning character to explore was such a gift for me. i believe honestly thats why im still here and doing this. being able to try and portray a healthy relationship and a healthy way of coping and growing has helped me a lot this past month and given me an outlet i didnt have before. TBH THO the main reason i made this blog if imma be real with u guys id because i didnt like the treatment of a lot of these issues in the fandom. it made me very upset to see depression used as an plot device and michaels dependency issues treated as romantic so i wanted to make a blog that had little to no angst. ANYWAYS somehow im still here ,,, gvrkjvrnkjfd sorry i rambled

honestly I just wanna say first that I love his blog and your art and you're so cool and kind!! a question would be (I'm not sure if you've answered this before or not) but is there like an on going story here, or is it mostly just answering questions with the characters set in this universe? i know this has been said before but i'm really really happy w how you're handling so many aspects of their characters. i.e. michael being trans, michael and jeremy's anxiety, michael's dependency issues, and other stuff i'm too tired to think of. you made the characters have even more depth than they did in the play and i'm rly grateful for the way you're dealing w my favorite boys. (also your richjake is suuuper adorable) ahhhhhh thank u so much? i talked a bit about this on my main but im really glad people are happy with my decision on this blog because im suPER SUPER NERvous anytime i post an ask dealing with these things. (ask hachi or nate i always message them like freaking out and send them my scripts and asks and wait for them to tell me its ok before i post it omg) also like i talked about before i love,,, having these fun stoner gamer boys to explore these issues with. im honestly shocked by how many people also deal with dependency issues because when i first listened to the musical i was so overwhlemed by the song michael int he bathroom because i had never heard someone basically write “dependency issue: the song” and it felt so so so good to realize i wasnt alone in this pit of despair i fall into so easily aha. but im!! glad everyone is ok with this wild ride im on right now (also thank u so much i struggle writing rich and jake but i get so emotional cause they would TOTES call each other babe)

how come you just use sketch form for most of your drawing (sketches and uses sketch for the final result)? im ,,, not really sure what this is asking but i thnk its along the lines of why do i only sketch my answers?? and i do that because dude do u see how often i post and how lONG some of them are. i made this blog for fun and i love doing comics but i hate lineart and coloring and if i tried to churn out finished pics for every post id defs have given up a few asks in,, shrugs

this isn't really related to the faq but that bakunawa boy reference was great I LOVE THAT FIC MAN!!! the line was originally a little diff in that ask but i changed it cause ,,,, i could,,,,

an art style question. how do you keep the design of characters consistent from frame to frame? my characters they look a lil different every time I draw em (or a lot different) and it tends to disrupt the flow of my comics/animations ohh boy hoo wee props for doing animations im too scared to give that a whirl but!! it helps that i draw all the panels for an ask on one canvas! so if my next panel is going to be the same character in the same spot just in a diff pose i keep the lower layer on just at low opacity so i can use it as a ref! that helps me a lot!

Any advice for running an ask blog?? (Ps i love this blog keep it up) personally whats worked for me so far is doing just sketches for art. honestly ive been able to work so much more and post so much more often while also trying to work on my expressions and poses! also taking my own experiences and shaping them to fit the characters has been SO MUCH FUN. th most important thing tho is,,, dont overwork urself dude. if ur having a fun time it shows. if ur just forcing urself to churn out material and its not fun? like shit we doing this for free dont push urself? idk idk overall being looser with my art and writing the dialogue before hand has been the most helpful for me for this askblog! ive run a bunch before including @ask-maz and ive run that sporadically for ,, three or four years? its so funny cause u can see my art style juMP AROUND SO MUCH but i love that blog and i only update it like every other month or so but?? i still like doing it and no on likes those posts but it makes me smile so ANYWAYS

Boruto Episode 2: My Review

What I Liked About It:

1. Boruto and Shikadai’s Brotp

- Yup, this takes the number one spot again because the anime has deigned to bless us all with more of moments of this awesome brotp. Boruto claiming that he’s gonna ‘make his mark’ ala Hiccup Haddock style? Nope, Shikadai is ready to shut down any behavior that’ll get him into further trouble. Kids loudly whispering behind Boruto’s back? Shikadai makes sure to remind Boruto not to pay attention to that nonsense and do his own thing. Inojin blurts out that Boruto is probably riding in on his dad’s fame? “Inojin, take that back.”

Seriously though, so far Shikadai is THE big bro of the Boruto anime. Lemme just list all the other brotp moments I loved from this episode:

His concern when Iwabe was first roughing Boruto up

His trying to stop Boruto from fighting Iwabe

His exasperation over Boruto possibly being suspended again, only to panic even more when Inojin remarks he could possibly be expelled instead

Totally freaking out and wondering why Iwabe wasn’t just allowed to graduate years ago when the fight gets rough

His seriously happy expression when Boruto wins

I seriously love brotps to the bottom of my soul, so all this makes me really happy. It also kinda ties in with a brief moment in the Boruto novel, where Shikadai was shown to be worried about Boruto after he goes after Naruto when he’s kidnapped by Momoshiki. Naruto & Shikamaru are possibly my favorite Naruto-related brotp on the show, and the fact that their kids are this close just makes me so happy (if I haven’t said that word enough already, lol). Hinata really made the right choice when asking Shikadai to watch out for her son.

As for Boruto’s side of the brotp, I like how comfortable he obviously is with Shikadai. “Lemme borrow your book!” he says, like a true lil bro. The fact that he doesn’t rudely brush off Shikadai’s attempts to keep him out of trouble or simply give him advice.

Ugh, can I just have some flashbacks of Boruto and Shikadai playing together as tots at a family picnic or something?? Now I seriously need some fanfic on how their parents get along well which leads to them getting along well and with some Konoha politics in the mix (help I need this like air)!!!

2. Boruto

- I just love Boruto. I think this episode (and the one before it) did a good job in subtly highlighting how he is different from his father and thus his own unique character. He is a bit more coolheaded than his dad, that’s for sure. When he asked Denki about who had a higher score than him, I was literally like, “Uh-oh” because I thought that he would get all competitive and try to challenge the kid...but nope! He just goes “oh okay” and later even tries to make nice with him.

He is also a bit more perceptive of people too (not that Naruto wasn’t perceptive in his own way- Neji v. Naruto at Chuunin Exams, anyone?). And he’s a bit more calm and nuanced about how people would react to him because of what he did. Man, I just love this kid.

3. Boruto v. Iwabe

So I saw plenty of people crowing about how this fight was an awesome return to the original fights of Naruto...and I agree, YUS. It really was nice seeing regular taijutsu again (also in the first episode too)!

I also appreciated how he and Boruto became friends in the end. Boruto recognized what was his real deal, called him out, and even helpd inspire Iwabe to come to class. Cool.

4. Inojin

Inojin really is a prickly character, lol. “Oh I’m just gonna say the first thing that comes to mind like whatever.” Pffft.

I like how he’s true to his values though. He doesn’t trust you, he doesn’t trust you. But he’ll change his mind if he feels it’s deserved, and he’ll even help you out when you need it. I really like how he called out those kids near the end of the episode for still whispering about Boruto, and wasn’t shy about making his own judgments and coming to his own conclusions about him. I am confused about his true relationship with Boruto (I thought they knew each other when they were younger?), but I’ll get back to that later.

5. ChouChou

I like how she had more lines in this episode and wasn’t simply comic relief. She also seems quite perceptive of other people’s true thoughts and abilities. And her fangirling over Naruto was hilarious.

6. Sarada

She cares about Boruto! Yay! I’m confused about her relationship with Boruto too though? In the Gaiden they seemed like old friends who knew a lot about each other, and she usually acted out of a deep understanding of his situation. Here, she tries to act like she doesn’t know him at all. I’m kinda confused...but love her anyway!

7. Hinata

I love that little Hinata moment we had. ^^

What Had Me A Little Confused:

1. Boruto’s Relationship with Inojin

So, like I said before...I’m confused about this. In the Boruto movie novel Boruto mentions how he remembers Sai playing with him using his Art Beast ninjutsu. So wouldn’t that imply that he and Inojin knew each other when they were small?

Plus Inojin was all, ‘long time no see.’ Did they not hang out with each other as much as they got older? Did Naruto becoming Hokage also affect which friends Boruto saw more often? I mean, it would make sense for him to keep seeing Shikadai since Shikamaru and Naruto work so closely together, but doesn’t Sai also work directly under Naruto? (don’t quote me on this, I really don’t know) Hmmm...

2. All The Next Gen Kids’ Relationships With Each Other

Like I said before, I’m confused about how these kids actually know or don’t know each other. ChouChou doesn’t seem to know Boruto well...but how does that work? I would think that Chouji and Naruto (and Karui and Hinata) would let their kids have play dates with each other when they were younger, right?

And again, what about Sarada and Boruto? Up until now, I had the impression that they were close friends. In fact, I was really surprised that they barely interacted with each other this episode. They really seemed to know each other well in the Gaiden and in the Movie. Hmm...

However, it is obvious that Shikadai and Inojin know each other well. From the way Shikadai reprimanded him about his bad habits and how he was familiar with Inojin’s ninjutsu, it was pretty much a given.

3. The Kids’ Personalities

I’m mainly speaking about Shikadai and Inojin here. In the Gaiden, Shikadai seemed a lot less considerate of Boruto’s feelings (more specifically, when he told Boruto that his dad had better things to do than play tag with him and when he laughed at his father using Shadow Bind on him). And Inojin seemed a lot less Sai-like in the Movie. Hmmm...

Well, can’t wait for the next episode! Hooray for Metal Lee and Temari and more friendshippy moments!!
