Bad, eternally awake, eternally dependable. If people needed something, they asked him. If eggs needed to be cared for and nobody else was available, he was there. And even after all that has happened, even if he's a trickster, a prankster, a liar, people KNEW he was dependable, especially with the eggs.

He was that background hum of a dependable appliance that you forget about until it goes silent, and you notice something's wrong, but you aren't quite able to figure out just what.

I’ve been seeing a few posts about the new episode title and it’s meaning so I figured I’d put my Japanese degree to work!

I’ve seen some people theorizing that the title Twilight Goodbye is a combination of some of the real authors’ works. I’m not super familiar with Nakahara’s writing but I can tell you about Dazai. Some folks said that the “Goodbye” in the title maybe be a reference to author Dazai Osamu’s last unfinished work of the same name. However, I don’t think that’s the case. The new episode is titled 「黄昏さようなら」 (romaji: tasogare sayounara) sayounara, of course, meaning goodbye. As for Dazai’s work, while the English title is Goodbye, in it’s original Japanese it is specifically 「グッドバイ」 (romaji: guddobai) which is the Japanese translation of the English word.

However, this specific goodbye IS what Dazai says when at the end of his speech to Chuuya in chapter 101! The use of this specific “goodbye” is interesting to me. If he was trying to be cute/annoying (in typical Dazai fashion) I think he would have said something like 「バイバイ」 (romaji: bai bai). At least that’s how I speak to my friends when I’m being informal or silly. This makes me think he was trying to communicate a plan since all of their code words are based off of real works.

They're stunning -- a molten sort of black that, in the light, reveals shimmers of a very dark rainbow.

TWO: He loves his wings. He's proud of his wings. What he doesn't love is the snide remarks aimed his way from his mom's political opponents about his affliction; the comments that are always tinged with racism, just because Alex's wings match his dad's, even though the Wing gene appears just as much in white people as it does in Latinos. On the campaign trail for his mom's first campaign, one of her advisors suggests that maybe Alex should hide them under his suit jacket for campaign appearances. (His mom clears the room, and Alex never sees the person who made the suggestion again.)

THREE: Alex discovers very quickly that the wings are... sensitive. He has a lot of fun with this information, both by himself and with other people.

FOUR: The first time Henry lays eyes on Alex, at Rio, the fluorescent lights are bouncing off his wings, flashing all the subtle colours in the feathers; he's so beautiful it makes Henry ache. The thoughts of how Alex's wings would feel under his fingertips torment him for over three years before he finally has the chance to find out for sure.

FIVE: Alex stands behind a podium, says America: He is my choice; says I am the First Son of the United States, and I’m bisexual and spreads his wings as wide as they'll go, taking up most of the stage. He's not going to be made to feel ashamed about any part of himself.
