@lotrladiessource lotr ladies week day 3: dwarrowdams | joy | motifs
dís, sister of thorin, daughter of thrain! i associate a lot of raven motifs with the line of dúrin, and that they have a special relationship. the ravens of ravenhill are an ancient breed, noble and intelligent enough to understand mortal tongues. here dís is dancing with two of röac's children after the battle of five armies, finding respite in the ravens even during her grief.

“This is our last parting, Estel, my son. I am aged by care, even as one of lesser Men; and now that it draws near I cannot face the darkness of our time that gathers upon Middle-earth. I shall leave it soon.” Aragorn tried to comfort her, saying: “Yet there may be a light beyond the darkness; and if so, I would have you see it and be glad.” But she answered only with this linnod: “Ónen i-Estel Edain, ú-chebin estel anim: I gave Hope to the Dúnedain, I have kept no hope for myself,” and Aragorn went away heavy of heart.

@lotrladiessource's LotR Ladies Week day 3: motifs
“But wear this now in memory of Elfstone and Evenstar with whom your life has been woven!” And she took a white gem like a star that lay upon her breast hanging upon a silver chain, and she set the chain around Frodo's neck. “When the memory of the fear and the darkness troubles you,” she said, “this will bring you aid.”

After a few years Gilraen took leave of Elrond and returned to her own people in Eriador, and lived alone; and she seldom saw her son again, for he spent many years in far countries. But on a time, when Aragorn had returned to the North, he came to her, and she said to him before he went: ‘This is our last parting, Estel, my son. I am aged by care, even as one of lesser Men; and now that it draws near I cannot face the darkness of our time that gathers upon Middle-earth. I shall leave it soon.’ Aragorn tried to comfort her, saying: ‘Yet there may be a light beyond the darkness; and if so, I would have you see it and be glad.’ But she answered only with this linnod: O´ nen i-Estel Edain, u´-chebin estel anim

@lotrladiessource thanks for a great Ladies Week! For Day 7, have 100 words of Eowyn.
After Faramir, it is Legolas to whom she is closest, in the end. Not Arwen, fair and fond, or Aragorn, once so yearned for – or yearned past: the shadow of his heroism what she truly craved. Not Merry, although she writes to him, often, remembering the fearful hours they shared, and how his light heart helped to heal her, afterward. Ithilien’s woodlands baffle her, child of the windy plains, and it is Legolas who teaches her gently to read them, to find the small pockets of restful shadow when the world is too bright, to put roots down. To bloom.

@lotrladiessource' lotr ladies week day 1: hobbits | fairytales & legends
goldberry and belladonna took enjoying a frolic in the withywindle! i like to think that on her adventures, belladonna braved the old forest and met goldberry, with whom she became friends. before she settled down, she would go and visit during the spring and early summer; assisting the river-maid with her chores, delighting each other with dancing, singing, and storytelling! even after she married bungo baggins, she never forgot those magical times...

lord of the rings ladies week day two | women of the north | vidumavi galadwen | @lotrladiessource
Valacar gave to his son the name Eldacar, for public use in Gondor; and his wife bore herself wisely and endeared herself to all those who knew her. She learned well the speech and manners of Gondor, and was willing to be called by the name Galadwen, a rendering of her Northern name into the Sindarin tongue. She was a fair and noble lady of high courage, which she imparted to her children; but though she lived to a great age, as such was reckoned among her people, she died in 1344.

@lotrladiessource's LotR Ladies Week day 1: fairytales & legends
It was often said (in other families) that long ago one of the Took ancestors must have taken a fairy wife. That was, of course, absurd, but certainly there was still something not entirely hobbit-like about them, and once in a while members of the Took-clan would go and have adventures.
