buckle up it’s the annual Jac Has Feelings About Racetrack Higgins post

interesting race take but i feel like race is a Really observant person and is very much a people watcher, head always on a swivel, really eagle-eyed when he’s in public and around people he doesn’t know well, but if he feels safe and comfortable he doesn’t really care enough to notice every little thing.

then again i also think that race is one of those really emotionally intelligent people under the “haha funny comic relief” facade he puts on so he’s rlly good at noticing facial expressions, body language, etc. and can tell when his friends are struggling bc he is So in tune to their “”””normal”””” self and any little change to that is rlly apparent to him! and a lot of the time, he’s not even comforting them- he just gives them a knowing look and a nod and they know that means they can talk to him if they need to.

personally, i dont see race as the kind of person to pull people away from the group to talk about feelings or to hug people out of the blue when theyre upset. like,, just the Acknowledgment that he knows theyre upset is invitation enough to talk to him about it. he’s opening up the floor to any potential conversation but not actively forcing the person or cornering them.

i also feel like he makes it known that he’s kind of shit at advice, so everyone knows that if they talk to race about it, it’s basically just going to be venting. and he’ll ask a few questions and stuff but he’s not going to solve any problems- but sometimes that’s exactly what people need. a place to vent without being told to Fix things. it’s perfectly human to complain and vent and get the big feelings out, and race is always gonna be there for that!

race is just,,, the kind of person to catch your eye in a crowded room and when he knows you’re looking, he’ll raise his chin a little and quirk an eyebrow; that universal expression of “you okay?” is one he falls back on every time. he’s the kind of guy to lounge around while you vent, looking as physically comforting as possible because he wants you to feel like it’s a chill, safe, open space to just get it out. he’ll interject with a few funny little comments now and then (think john mulaney’s “you you want me to kill that guy for you?” bit) but for the most part he’s just silent, nodding along, making little noises to show he’s listening, etc. and i love him for it

My best friend is so fucking obsessed with them lmao they ended up making me two playlists that just had their music, bc the first song I'd heard from them was the garden and at the time I was only into soft folk music so it was a bit too aggressive for my tastes shfkfk (I love it a lot now!! I'm back into rock now, I just go through phases). So one of the playlists was their more calm stuff and then the other playlist was their more intense music. So I got hooked with their calm stuff and then moved to their more intense music hahahahah and now I love all of it :D
