Cereal Soup
“Cereal is a soup.”
Wild stares at Four. Would the timeline continue if he killed the smith on the spot? It might be worth it to find out.
“Cereal,” he says, “is not a soup. Soup is soup. I make enough of it I should know.”
“It’s soup! It’s liquid with stuff in in!”
“No, that’s wrong!”
“Chili is soup,” Four points out.
Wild throws his hands up at this. “Chili is chili! Not soup!”
“It’s in the soup family!”
Fine. If that’s how Four wants to play it. He should have learned not to test Wild after the tomato cake incident. “Okay, then by your standards, yogurt is soup.”
Four squints, likely looking for the trap. “Explain.”
“It comes in a bowl with stuff in it. And, like chili, it’s thick.”
“Then…” The smith chews over the words, then nods. “Yeah. Yogurt is soup then.”
“Perfect. I was going to make soup for dinner. I’m sure you will enjoy some yogurt.”
“That’s not a dinner food!”
“You should have thought of that when you said cereal was a soup!”
From the side, Sky leans over to Warriors. “Think we’re going to be eating weird stuff for another week?”
“I’ll see if I can bribe Wild into making us real food on the side.”
Next to them, Twilight slumps. “I just want to eat a potato again.”
“Cereal is a soup! Breakfast soup!”
“There’s no such thing as breakfast soup!”
The three boys settle in to watch the debate. If nothing else, it’s entertaining, even if they have to eat the fallout.

Aspects of Ravioli
@flufftober 2023 day 21 - Swoon
Ravio’s cheeks were already flushed pink and now they deepened, the colour of his blush moving swiftly past pink and into red. Wild was beginning to suspect that if he went any further then his cheeks would be the same purple as his cloak.
“I-” he cleared his throat. “I was just trying to make something nice.”
Wild tilted his head in question and mewled. Ravio sighed, sitting down heavily on the kitchen table. Not at the chair at the table, but on the table itself. The table that was currently covered in flour and wheat and other unidentifiable ingredients. There was now flour all over his robes, but he didn’t seem to notice.
Ravio sighed. “It's our anniversary.” he admitted, “Mr Hero - that is, Legend, doesn't usually like to do too much so I thought I could just make us a nice dinner. It’s just- I haven't seen this food in a long time so I keep messing it up, but I really want to make it. It's special, you know?”
Wild’s heart melted. He may have purred. He was definitely doing the cat equivalent of heart eyes as he lifted his hands to sign.
“I help.” he said.

LUtober Day 1: Game
Tumblr media
Despite having never owned a gameboy in the history of my life I immediately thought of a gameboy. These two are chilling. They don't have enough rupees to afford another 2 gameboys and all the cables so they have to settle for just sitting next to each other and engaging in parallel play.

On Time Travel and Birthdays
October 2 Prompt: Family, Friends, Loved Ones (Flufftober)
Rank 1 in the Whump Scale (check series description for scale)
In hindsight, Twilight was surprised it took so long for it to come up. Birthdays could be funny things, but they were important. But, somehow, they never came up during the whole first month that Twilight spent traveling with this new group of heroes. And when it finally did come up it seemed to catch everyone off guard.
It all started shortly after they were lucky enough to find an inn along the road they were traveling on and decided to stop for the evening despite there being some daylight left. They were all relieved to get off the road for a short time and that relief only increased when a strong storm blew in later that evening.
Things seemed to be going well, they were safe and dry and had actual beds to sleep in for the night, but then Time got to talking with the inkeeper and managed to figure out exactly how long they had been traveling together. This didn’t seem like a big deal at first, mostly just useful information to have, but not long after Twilight noticed that Wind was quieter than normal. More subdued. Something had clearly upset him. And Twilight wanted to know what it was. So he quietly pulled the young sailor aside to ask him.
Thankfully, Wind had yet to develop the need to refuse to talk about what was bothering him that many of the others seemed to have. So it didn’t take long for Twilight to find out what had their youngest so down.
“It’s nothing important,” Wind tried to reassure the older hero. “I just realized that if Time’s count of how long we’ve been at this is right then tomorrow is my birthday. And I’ve just…I’ve never been away from home on my birthday before. That’s all.”
“Tomorrow is your birthday?!” Whoops. Clearly they hadn’t been quite far enough away from everyone to keep from being overheard. And now Legend had announced it to the entire group. Wind’s ears were turning a distinctly red color, but there was no stopping it now as the rest of their group immediately turned to look at them.
“Why didn’t you say anything, Sailor?!” Warriors asked, scandalized.
“I lost track of time!” Wind threw his hands up in the air. “I didn’t realize we were this close! We’ve been a little busy, you know!”
“That is true,” Time acknowledged, cutting in. “But we know now. So is there anything you want us to do to celebrate tomorrow, Sailor?” Wind faltered in surprise at the question before shaking his head.
“I…um…Grandma always made her soup for dinner. And we’d have a cake. But she’s not here to make those so…I don’t know.”
“I’m sure we can figure something out,” Time reassured him, catching Wild’s gaze for a moment before looking back at their youngest.
“Hold up.” Legend cut in, sharply. “Let’s clear something up before we fully dive into planning for Wind’s birthday. When is everyone else’s birthday? I don’t want to get caught off guard like this again. Mine is thirty days after the spring equinox.” There was a brief lull in conversation at the suggestion, but soon enough the group was rattling off birthdays. A couple of them had to take time to count the days, since they’d long ago figured out that their calendars weren’t quite the same, but counting from something like an equinox or solstice worked well enough and it didn’t take long for everyone to share their birthdays.
Well. Almost everyone. One by one, the rest of The Chain began to turn to look at Wild and the attention had the young man’s ears turning red.
“Amnesia, remember?” Wild pointed out with a shrug. “I have no idea when I was born.”
“Then when do you celebrate?” Wind asked, tilting his head.
“I don’t.” It was a blunt, unbothered reply, but it caused a small ripple of unease to travel through the rest of the group.
“Well that’s no good.” Hyrule noted with a frown. “You’ve got to have a birthday. You can just pick one you know. That’s what I did. How about when you woke up in the shrine? That’s kind of like a new birth right?”
“I don’t know when that was either.” Wild shifted uncomfortably. “I wasn’t really keeping track of days back then, you know? I was kind of busy figuring out…things.”
“Do you know what time of year it was at least?” Twilight asked after a beat of silence and Wild frowned.
“I…I’m pretty sure it was in the fall.” Wild told them after a moment, brow furrowed. “I remember thinking about how pretty the leaves were, with all their colors.”
“Then you can just pick a day in the Fall!” Wind grinned. “Whatever day you like best!” Wild visibly faltered again, eyes a bit wider than normal.
“I…um…Can I think on it?” He sounded rather overwhelmed and Twilight couldn’t help but cut in.

Tax Benefits at First Sight
"Okay, I have to know." Twilight looks curiously at the many different rings on Legend's hand, pointing out the two on his ring finger. "In my time, rings on the ring finger indicate a significant other, now I'm not sure if that's still the case wherever you are on the timeline, but I am curious."
Legend pondered his words for a while, it's been a long time since he thought of the symbolism of rings, considering most of the ones he has on normally are enchanted for a magical edge in combat.
The two rings did indeed mean something, though both are of a very different history and meaning to Legend, one makes him feel a deep sadness and a guilt, while the other makes him happy with a soft flutter in his heart and an embarrassing feeling he knows the group would never let down. With a bit of thought, Legend decided that today wasn't a day to be feeling down. He needed a break after the last few days, after all.

Flufftober Day 13: Wrong (...) featuring Time, Warriors, Sky, and Wind
This is the debut of by modern AU! It's inspired by the 1980s TV sitcom Full House. Series summary:
Time, a recently widowed father of three, enlists the help of Warriors, his brother, and Sky, his best friend since childhood, to help raise his three children: Twilight, Wild, and Wind. They live next door to Legend and Ravio, who are foster parents to two children, Hyrule and Four. Shenanigans ensue.
(Spoiler: Time's first partner was not Malon. She comes later.)
Summary: Baby Wind calls Warriors his dad. Time, his actual dad, tries not to be upset about it.
455 words, fluff and very mild angst.
Also, Sky uses he/she pronouns here. Everyone else in this snippet is he/him (for now hehehe)
“Dada!” Wind said, little hands grasping toward Warriors.
Warriors, Sky, and Time froze.
“Uh,” Warriors said, nervously glancing between Wind and Time. Time’s face was blank as he stared at Wind.
“No, no, I’m Uncle Wars!” Warriors said. He turned Wind around to face Time.
“That’s your dada!” Warriors said. Wind gurgled and stuck a fist in his mouth.
“Heh, babies. They don’t know anything,” Warriors said, pulling Wind back to rest on his hip. Wind giggled.
Sky reached his arms out for Wind. “Yeah! He’s probably just making noise,” Sky said.
Sky took Wind and rested Wind on her hip.
“Dada,” Wind mumbled, hands darting into Sky’s hair.
“Uh,” Sky said. He felt her face go bright red, and he glanced up at Time. “Sorry, kiddo, that’s not me.”
Time sighed and held his hands out for the baby. “It’s alright.”
Sky handed Wind to Time. Time held Wind closely against his chest and gave him a small smile.
“Hi, Wind,” Time said. “I haven’t been around much lately, have I?”
Wind blabbered nonsense and hit his fists on Time’s chest. Warriors and Sky exchanged a sympathetic look. Time’s smile fell and he shook his head, hugging Wind closer to his chest.
Footsteps thundered down the stairs. Twilight and Wild gleefully ran across the room and skidded to a stop in front of Time.
“Dad, look! Uncle Wars bought us these!” Twilight said.
He and Wild spun in a circle with their arms up, showing off their new outfits. Twilight’s outfit was a pair of stylish overalls on top of a striped shirt. Wild’s was a bright pink, knee-length dress with glitter and sequins. Time could see himself cleaning up the debris of the dress for the foreseeable future. Time felt Twilight’s words worm their way into his heart. Dad.
“You two look great!” Time said. He handed Wind to Sky and knelt down in front of the kids, putting a hand on each of their shoulders.
“Seems like I missed a fun day,” Time said.
“It’s okay dad,” Twilight said. “We know you have to work.”
Time felt his heart break. His little boy shouldn’t have to be so mature. Time ducked his head for a moment to pull himself together. He looked back up with a wide smile.
“How about we go out tomorrow, just the four of us?” Time said. Wild and Twilight’s faces both lit up.
“Yeah!” Wild cheered, then pounced on Time for a hug. Twilight joined in, wrapping his little arms around Time and his brother.
Time held them close and let his cheek rest on Wild’s messy hair. He might not be around as much as he wanted, but at least his boys knew they were loved.

DAY 1: "I've got you"
The chain is very, very bored. If you can’t tell.
Everybody is either draped over each other, or sitting down and staring at the sky. Well, the younger of the group were piled up like dolls, Time, twilight, warriors and sky were all chatting as if nothing was wrong.
“ AgH!” Wind throws his hands up, pushing himself off of a Four who was currently face first in the grass, letting out a muffled ‘oomph’, “what do we do ?” The teen huffs, looking towards Time.
“Don’t look at me, maybe you should just enjoy the sounds of nature, boredom makes way for ideas.” Time said.
No it doesn’t.
“Maybe we could go treasure hunt-“ Wild jumps off, boosting himself off of poor four.
“ No! No no no no, Legend already has a bad enough hoarding problem, and you’re almost as bad as him!” Warriors spoke up.
“That’s not true and you know it!” Legend jumped up, flinging four, who was draped across his stomach, finally drifting off, onto a cozy Hyrule with a yelp.
“Oh!” Twilight snaps his fingers, “let’s play a game!” He grins, he knows how to deal with bored children. The younger half of the chain was probably just the same!
“Treasure hunting is a game-“ Wild started to suggest.
“No- no treasure hunting.”
“Buzzkill.” They hiss.
“Anyways, what game? Tag? Catch? Maybe hot and cold? OH-“ wind started throwing every game he could think of out into the metaphorical table.
“Ah- how about hide and go seek? We should all know that one right?” Sky suggested.
“Hide and go seek?” Hyrule jumped up,Four rolling off, at this point he didn’t even care, getting up and sitting beside hyrule.
“So who’s it then?” Four rubbed his eyes, looking at the rest.
Time grinned, “I could.” The one eyed man raised up his hand lazily, followed by terrified eyes of the rest.
“What no! You find everybody in the span of two nanoseconds!” Wind exclaimed, throwing his hands up once again.
“Come on, don’t give me that much credit! I’m mediocre at best.” Time tried.
“Don’t you even dare joke about that.” Legend narrowed his eyes at the older.
August was not a great time for hide and go seek.
“Really guys? Really?” He raised an eyebrow.
“How about Wild instead?” Sky pointed out.
“What- actually, okay yeah, I think we’ll actually survive 20 seconds with Wild.” Wind sighed in relief
Said Wild had snuck off for treasure hunting.
“ARE YOU KIDDING ME-?”
“2…1.. ready or not here I come!” Time said in a sing-song voice, he already knew where everybody had tucked themselves, how exactly?
A magician never reveals his secrets, as they say.
The small woods were peacefully silent, save for the squirrels and bird chitter of course, the the occasional rustle of leaves from a deer. He would just go grab everybody immediately of course.
But where’s the fun in that?
Besides, it’d lure them into a false sense of security before scaring their socks off, yes?
He walked around, whistling a random tune that’s been stuck in his head for a few days, eyeing the rock where Legend and Hyrule has crammed themselves behind, probably beside the piles of fallen autumn leaves from what it looks like.
Slowly, he made it sound as if he was walking away, walking in place and whistling softer, softer.
Stop.
“Hyrule, get off of me!” Legend whisper-yelled.
“Agh! by Hylia I’m not even on you!”
“Yes you are!”
“It’s literally an arm.” Hyrule deadpanned.
“Move your arms then it’s like you’re trying to break my rib cage with it.” Legen dramatized.
“There’s not enough room for that!”
Slowly, he reached into his back, slipping on the stone mask, walking ever so carefully to the two quietly bickering heroes.
At once, he climbed in the rock, above them, and yanked off the mask.
“I’ve got you!”
Legend proceeded to produce a shriek that sounded awfully close to Malon when she sees a spider in the shower.

Safety and Frogs
AO3 Link
Malon hums to herself, combing her fingers through fluffy brown hair. The screen door to the house swings open; squeaking on the hinges. She should oil it later.
“Got room for one more?”
“For you Fairy Boy? Always.” She smiles up at her husband as he settles onto the wide porch swing on her free side.
“How’s Hyrule?”
“Ran out of energy helping with the fairies. Now we’re both enjoying a nice break.” At her side, the traveler is fast asleep against her shoulder. She’s eased Link to sleep with the same gesture many a time.
“Well, I think I could do with some rest myself.”
“Finished with the horses?”
“The boys are still moving grain. Wild is…helping.” Causing chaos, comes the subtext.
“And Wind?”
“…hm.”
So, instigating said chaos. Well, as long as they don’t set the barn on fire. Link sets the porch swing rocking with a foot and she leans into his side. Even after 10 years of marriage, her favorite place is next to him. They’ve been together long enough that they can be apart, but it will never be her choice.
Link is…different, the more time he spends with the boys. Oh, sure, he’s changed a lot from the young boy who wandered out of the forest. Even more so since they started dating or got married. Those were drastic changes, borne out of struggles and pain.
Now, he changes subtly each time he comes home. Link grows comfortable in his role as the temporary leader of the group. He knows when to keep the boys out of trouble and when to let them learn their own lessons. With so many diverse backgrounds and ages, he deals with all sorts of oddities.
Malon can’t help but look at him with the boys and imagine little ones of their own. Her fairy boy would be a wonderful dad because he already fills that role for eight others.
At her side, Hyrule shifts slightly and she resumes combing through his hair. He settles with a little sigh. Glancing at Link shows a fond smile at the motion.
“How are they doing?” she asks.
Link turns his attention back across the ranch, eyebrows furrowing slightly at the racket in the barn. “It’s good. Everyone’s grown more comfortable with each other and their role in the group. Friendships are still being made but…there’s a lot more trust than when we started.”
He presses a kiss to Malon’s hair. “I love them. Even when they drive me up the wall. All I want to do is see them go home safe.”
“You’re doing that already.”
“But…I feel like I should do more.”
Malon knows this mindset; they’ve battled it for years already. It’s a product of the hero’s spirit; the insatiable need to help. “Link. You are already doing that. Do you let Wild blow up everything he sees?”
“No.”
“Did you let Wind steal Warriors scarf and dye it?”
That gets a snort; one of the funnier stories he shared with her. “No.”
“Do you let Hyrule wander off and get lost?”
“I think that’s impossible to stop, but I send Wolfie after him.”
“What about traveling all night? Not checking for dangers? Eating unknown foods?”
“Okay! Okay!” Link holds up his hands, waving her off. “I get it, I do a lot.”
She smirks and kisses his shoulder. “You do a good job, fairy boy. You’ll get them all home safe. I promise.”
“How do you know?”
“Because with you? There is no other option.” Link will do everything in his power to protect the boys. She’s made her peace with it, even if it raises his chance of injury. He wouldn’t be the man she loved if he was different.
The racket in the barn dies down, and there’s little sound but the odd whinny of a horse and the creak of the swing. Malon lets her eyes close as she leans on Link, taking a deep breath of the warm summer air.
“I can kill 16 bokoblins with thunder.”
Her eyes pop open and she glances over at Hyrule. He’s blinking sleepily up at her.
“…what?”
He just nods and yawns, showing white teeth. “Chu chus are edible if you are desperate enough.”
Well, that’s…worrying. Malon glances at Link, hoping for some help.
“Go back to sleep, traveler.”
Hyrule yawns again. “Legend’s got a pair of red underwear he stole from Wild…” and then he settles back on Malon’s shoulder and falls asleep again.
Malon presses her lips together, trying to stop the laughter from shaking her shoulders. Link rolls his eyes. “Hyrule says the weirdest things mid-nap. He gives me a run for my rupees; I’ve got no idea if what he says is true half the time.”
She arches an eyebrow. “And the underwear?”
“You’re welcome to ask.”
The silence stretches, and then they both break into quiet giggles. The gentle motion of the swing lulls her into a doze. She should go inside and start on dinner. Maybe bake some rolls? What would the boys like that she can make in a kitchen? Wild deserves a break from cooking, especially over a campfire.
Perhaps…she can make… ~
Malon wakes to whispering. She doesn’t move at first, although her ear flicks as she listens.
“Take the picture,” someone hisses. Legend.
“I did! Look, they’re all conked out.” There’s Wild.
A pause. Then Four asks, “Hey, what if I tickle the old man’s ear with a feather.”
“Don’t do that!” A light slap and some shuffling.
“Hey—”
“Shh!”
Someone else has joined the trio and Malon works to feign sleep.
“Why are we whispering?”
“They are asleep. Hey, whatcha got, Sky?”
“A frog! Look, it’s a small one.”
“Can I hold it?” Wild asks.
“Sure, here you go.”
Silence. Suspicious silence. It’s a silence that points to a prank in action.
“Hello, boys.” Link’s voice has Malon opening her eyes to take in the situation. Wild stands directly in front of Link, hands cupped around the frog. There’s a slight look of panic.
“Have a nice nap, old man?”
He ignores the question. “You weren’t going to put that frog on me, were you?”
“O-of course not! I would never!” Wild glances back at the other boys, looking for backup. Four edges away. Sky is confused, and Legend has a highly insincere smile on his face.
Next to her, Hyrule wakes up and blinks, looking around. “What’s going on?”
“Wild has a frog.”
“Cool, can I see?”
Wild passes the frog over, relieved at the distraction. Hyrule examines the frog and then pops it in his mouth.
Did he just…eat…a frog? Is that something these boys do? Goddesses, is she not feeding them enough?
“Hyrule.” Link’s voice is cool and he’s making use of his disappointed face. “Spit it out.”
The traveler does; the frog none the worse for its sudden journey into a mouth. Sky swoops in and saves it before anyone else decides they want a snack. Hyrule gives her a sunny smile. “Frog legs are excellent cooked.”
She manages a faint smile. “I’m sure they are.”
No, her fairy boy will have no trouble with children in the future.

Aspects of Grace
@flufftober Day 2 Family, Friends, Loved Ones
Wild knew that he should have expected this. It was a fair reaction. It made sense. If their positions were reversed, if one of his brothers were in his shoes and had done what he had done, Wild would probably be doing the same thing.
Still. It was a little overboard, in his opinion.
He’d only been dead for like, an hour.
