Interesting that Rayla rejected Lujanne's advice while Callum seems to have accepted it (not that he was there to hear it). Although one can argue that you have to establish a foundation for trust first by being honest and open and facing down dragons ... and only then can you start breaking into your boyfriend's dungeon and look for murder weapons.

(still probably not a good idea to actively hide certain depths permanently, your partner should be able to trust you to open up ... once you are ready)

Since my last post abt Moonshadow genetics did well, I decided to try to figure out eye genetics 😬👍

Research Results:

From what I have gathered, it is probable that Moonshadow elves have three main phenotypes for iris melanin, which happen to be the primary colors of Blue, Red, and Yellow.

If we hypothesize that the sister dominant phenotype combinations (blue+red and red+yellow) result in true incomplete dominance (the colors blend together completely), then that would explain where the eye colors of purple and orange come from (brown as well, since brown is just a dark shade of orange).

Since Lain’s eyes are orange, he has a Red phenotype, and paired with Tiadrin’s Blue phenotype would create purple!

Since we have yet to see a Moonshadow elf with fully green eyes, it is reasonable to infer that although all the phenotypes show incomplete dominance with their nearest neighbor, the yellow phenotype is simply too weak to fully mix with blue, which would result in a blue eye color that leans towards green, but doesn’t cross the threshold to be considered fully green (e.x. Runaan with turquoise eyes, and Lunjanne with teal eyes)

Conclusion: It works???????

Updating my various headcanons on Runaan and Lujanne being related and Runaan and Andromeda being related to include Runaan and Kim'dael being related. I've got an old headcanon that she used to be an assassin back in the day, but this is juuuust a half step closer.

They all have British accents. And they're currently the only Moonshadow elves who do.

Phoe-Phoe sounds like such a childish name for a majestic phoenix, but then again she is basically immortal and thus probably much older than Lujanne. So perhaps Lujanne was a child when she named her (and perhaps back then Phoe-Phoe was – for the hundredth time – a cute fledgling as well).

(also Lujanne is of course a total goof and might have named her Phoe-Phoe even as an adult)

Thinking slightly too much about Callum and Rayla’s relationship with the truth and secrets and how Rayla is the one innately connected to the moon arcanum, the arcanum of we can only know the appearance itself, we can never touch the so called reality, “look at the moon, light only falls on half it’s face right now, but that doesn’t mean the other half isn’t there” and “real trust is about accepting even the dark parts we will never know” particularly that last statement, because Rayla outright rejects it, saying “lying and hiding the truth aren’t that different . . . strong relationships need honesty, the full truth” (to which Lujanne laughs (Lu I love you)) and even in the Bookery, after her little pep talk with Amaya, when Rayla opens up to Callum and trusts him with the coins, the way she phrases it is so interesting: “there’s a burden I’m carrying, and I’ve kept it a secret, and maybe that’s part of what’s been making things weirder with us”. Again, there’s that emphasis on keeping secrets and how that affects a relationship. Whereas it’s Callum, who did start the series demanding the full truth, has become the one going “if she didn’t tell me she has a good reason” and while he does admit his curiosity, he actually stops her when she goes to try and explain it in their rooms later with “you can tell me when you’re ready”. The way that Rayla, whether for better or worse who knows relationships are complicated, has almost been resisting the basic principles of the moon arcanum more and more across the series, even as Callum grows to embrace them. After all, it’s Callum who phrases his newfound understanding of the ocean arcanum as “accepting there are depths you can’t see” which mirrors the moons “accepting even the dark parts we will never know” almost eerily well. Now if you’ll excuse me I’ll be over here going insane
