My favorite thing to do in TOTK is to look for physically attractive male npcs and determine whether or not they are bf material for Link

Ralera has something unique to say about rain, but only if you have not talked to her before. Compare this with what she says in other weather. After her first text box, it all aligns with what she always says.

this isnt "the game is unplayable because of this" discourse worthy criticism but thinking about botw again (bc i wanna go in and get some rito refs for bird fur drawing) and like. Does anyone else. Wish the little npc villages were like. Bigger? At least the story related ones? Hateno village is the one that closest satisfied it for me, but like. Zora's domain, the rito village and the goron city seem so. Small? To me?? And actually it wldnt matter if they were bigger they also feel so lifeless somehow. Idk

One thing that TotK does constantly but really doesn't land for me when compared to BotW is that every NPC loves Zelda so much.
She is the sweetest, and she loves animals and is the very best at them, and she goes to every major landmark to spend time there and also she teaches the people secrets about the lands they have always lived in and they're like woow thanks zelda incredible I'll change my entire ways because you were just SO enlightening (Lurelin + Gerudo Town feeling particularly questionable here for obvious reasons), and she's so wise and beloved and talented --to the point that nobody (beyond the Zora King) even dares to question her actions when she starts acting off.
(Yunobo please stop letting her walk all over you, like it's alarming that you understand she basically brainwashed you and your entire race, and you're still running after her like a lost puppy for an explanation that will surely make everything make sense instead of, like, punting her into the sun? I know it's the eeeevil zelda, but that this situation could even remotely begin to happen feels... so offputting.)
In BotW, the rare mentions of Zelda worked because 1) she was an ancient figure and the modern hylians knew very little about her and would build her up as a legendary figure accordingly, 2) she was literally giving her life for them (I mean she kind of still does here but people do not know that or cannot infer that in any way --which is its own sort of problem), 3) she was extremely hard on herself, felt like a failure and... kind of was one (and she was given shit for it).
(also in BotW we are in a post-Hyrule kingdom world, while here we're living its re-foundation, and so it feels very... convenient that they excavate a previous version of their perfect kingdom to boister up the hylian claim upon the lands also --but that's beyond the topic)
So for anyone to give her grace and compassion in BotW, while a little eyeroll worthy at times, was endearing and made sense. None of this was her fault; she may have extreme power, but she didn't directly yield it --her imperfections the byproduct of a stressful situation every champion was being forced into due to the tides of fate. Also the king was criticized for being a little ruthless and asking too much of his subjects, including his own daughter. There was solidarity between you and everyone else at the same level.
But here? I don't know, it feels like the entire kingdom is terrified that the sheikah secret police will drag them back in the Bottom of the Well if they breathe wrong when talking about their beloved princess, it's so unsettling. I liked BotW Zelda, but... I don't know, I'm literally more comfortable around fake Zelda than the real one. Fake Zelda feels more like a real person that she does.

Botw/Totk headcanon: Sheikah NPCs beyond Kakariko
after impa being the Last of Her Kind for nearly 20 years, we were kind of spoiled with the era of wilds sheikah. still, kakariko is known for it's older population and botw makes a point to let us know paya isn't used to seeing people her age. this post is about asking 'where are they?' and filling in the gaps. being a peaceful farming village it makes sense the younger gens would want to leave as soon as they can for some adventure.
sheikah typically have hair on the grey-to-white scale (granté proves this isn't a requirement), and unlike the past games they have a greater diversity in eye colour. below is a list of hylian npcs that look too young to have greying hair that i hc are either from kakariko, or have some sheikah ancestry.
Tumblr media
from left to right: lecia, letty, mina, her brother mils by proxy, teli, juney, and baumar. i'll go into more detail about each under the cut, comparing them from the 2 games alongside some more headcanons. some of them i haven't found in totk yet, so i'll edit when i do.
pic on the left side is them in botw, totk on the right.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mina is a treasure hunter looking for loot with her brother by the exchange ruins outside the great plateau. the siblings also show up in the dlc. they're trying to steal a sheikah heirloom back from the yiga hideout, though they don't know it's purpose - they just wanna sell it. in totk she walks on the path between lakeside stable and lurelin. she says that even treasure hunters deserve some fun once in a while, so we can assume she's takin' it easy. Mils, meanwhile...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
...joined the zonai survey team, and moans about what tough work it is. he walks through pagos woods to the zonai ruins. he joined in the hopes it would lead him to treasure, but he hasn't had his lucky break yet. most hylians travel from stable to inn and can be assumed not to have a proper home due to the lasting effects of the calamity. this is my bias but i like to think he's talking about kakariko when he mentions home. let him grow some pumpkins and wrangle cuccos. he wishes to live a quiet life.
i find it sweet him and mina are both in faron. maybe they decided to split up and cover more ground? with mina off sunbathing and sipping mimosas in lurelin, mils got the short end of the stick again.
Tumblr media
Baumar:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
'i hope you die': lazy, cliché, unrealistic. 'i hope your favourite botw npc gets mushroomed and bowlcutted': it's scary, it's possible, it's happening to me right now. such was the fate of our poor resident shield-surfer bro from botw. known for many hit quotes such as 'let's go bamboo! yahoo!', 'shield surfing is like, totally radical, dude', and my favourite:
Tumblr media
in botw he rides his horse on the path between serenne and snowfield stable. in totk he's part of the fashion tour-group that run around hateno village. maybe he went to hebra to show his 'wicked' surfing moves to selmie and she said 'kid, if i let you out on the slopes you'll die. sorry'. his world was completely shattered beneath him like a broken shield, so he turned to cravats and puffy short shorts to cope.
his name is similar to the hills of baumer above deya village ruins. maybe he's a descendent of the few survivors. i wonder what his ancestors are thinking now, watching what he does with the gift of life.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Teli walks between fort hateno and hateno village. He sells ancient guardian parts and even mentions he trades them with Robbie. he has a high opinion of himself and tells you he's known across hyrule for his 'roguish good looks.' in totk he's one of the men in the 'Gourmets gone missing' Penn quest that gave himself food-poisoning by riverside stable. after which he scares away some cuccos and makes you wrangle them for a sidequest. just L after L for this dashing rogue.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Juney, now famous for her rupee grinding sand seal minigame, i instantly recognised as the epic divorce woman from rito village. her attitude is just as surly as ever but they gave her a soft side. i like that every minigame location could not be further from hateno. you'll find that school someday queen.
she was a newly wed mad at her husband, jogo, for choosing a cold place for their honeymoon. he begs you to give him flint to cook some baked apples for her to save their already failing marriage.
Tumblr media
in totk they're not together, jogo inhabits a cabin in tabantha village ruins with another woman. he didn't give her enough baked apples.
Tumblr media
Letty walks along the path between lakeside stable and lurelin. she gives you cooking tips and that's pretty much it. i'm pretty sure i've met her as a yiga disguise more often than i've seen the real her. if anyone has found her in totk, please let me know.
Tumblr media
Lecia is a new character in totk. she's with the research team and plays a part in the foothill stable Penn quest. she kind of looks like a grown up Koko. maybe a distant relative? but maybe she's not sheikah. maybe the sight of all those pasty naked man nips traumatised her so bad she got marie-antoinette syndrome from the shock. i haven't seen her since.
thank you if you read to the end. to clarify i'm working on some fic stuff and that entails finding npcs across the overworld to give some more lore. it's a sheikah focused fic so i needed some characters other than the kakariko residents. it's also just fun fleshing out random npcs to make the world feel more lived in. again, i'm missing some details like what mina does before you save lurelin, so i'll edit this post in the future.

I’ve been defending TotK a lot so here are some criticisms of it to balance things out a bit more:
1) The timeline of the ancient past is way too confusing. When did the other Zonai come down from the sky? When did Rauru and Mineru come down? When did Rauru and Sonia build the shrines if they were made to suppress monsters but monsters weren’t conjured by Ganondorf until after Sonia was on death’s door? When did they have the time? When did Mineru have time to build the ruins in Faron? Did she build them all or just edit ones that other Zonai already built? Did Sonia and Rauru have a kid before they died? If not, how does Zelda even exist?
2) The Gerudo’s clothes are still too sexualizing and orientalist (high heels that would sink into the sand and skimpy “harem” outfits even though in the desert you generally want to cover your skin as much as possible with light breathable clothes so you don’t get sunburn or sweat yourself to death.)
3) Why the heck does Riju have a British accent? Not knocking her VA’s performance, but Urbosa and the other Gerudo don’t have accents and if they did they probably wouldn’t be British.
4) The “mystery” of Zelda being suspicious was way too easy to figure out and it was frustrating waiting for the NPCs to catch up through four whole dungeons. I know it was because they wanted you to be able to go to them in any order, but that threw off the buildup to the reveal. It would have been better to just have a fixed order to the dungeons.
5) I liked rebuilding Lurelin with Bolson EXCEPT for the focus on attracting tourism because to my understanding the tourism industry is actually terrible for most places where people live and has been very damaging to colonized Polynesians for example.
6) Sometimes the building mechanic just felt like an extra, unnecessary chore or obstacle to completing a task. Like, instead of solving a problem creatively you were just sort of going through the extremely obvious motions.
So… yeah. Not a perfect game at all. Overall good, overall better than past games in terms of cultural sensitivity and inclusivity, but Nintendo definitely still has some work to do too.

Attention Tears of the Kingdom players!
Tumblr media
HAVE YOU SEEN THIS MAN?!
I'm putting a bounty out on finding Spinch and his horse (also named Spinch)
I will draw something for whoever manages to find him. He was last spotted in Faron in Breath of the Wild. I just need to know if the Spinches survived!!
He's known for saying:
"Yee-haw! My name is Spinch! This is my horse, Spinch! That's right-same name! Is it confusing? I don't care! Spinch and I are taking a ride out to Lurelin Village! Hi-hooooo! "
"I'm Spinch! My horse is also named Spinch! We both hate the rain."
As well as several other iconic lines. Here's more pictures. I need to find this man, he's my favorite NPC of all time and was the reason I named my hedgehog Patch.
Edit: He has been found at Lakeside Stable! Thank you @muukumuu for finding him!

TotK is so frustrating because there are genuinely several things I would love to incorporate into fics (mostly items, but also some NPCs and a handful of concepts and little areas), but Unfortunately the Plot. if it was just mediocre, that'd be one thing, but it's so disconnected from BOTW and so disjointed from itself that I'm at a loss for how I'd even begin to salvage it without doing something else that barely resembles it. at that point I might as well come up with my own plot, you know?
what I'm gonna end up doing is just... taking all those little scraps and working them into various AUs. like the Adventure Time one, for instance. that one's the most ripe, I think, for a lot of this.
hmm. gonna make a list, I think, under a cut.
first of all, let's not lie to ourselves: 'secret passageway under the castle that contains long-concealed/sealed Horrors' is a banger of a concept. unfortunately. unfortunately this was not executed as well as it could've been. I would love to do something neat with this sometime. I think it would fit especially well in the AT AU as stated. perhaps even with a take on those nuclear warnings.
Penn was a genuinely entertaining new NPC and I enjoyed the Lucky Clover Gazette chain of sidequests for the most part. like, could've done without the stuff setting up Zelda as being omni-talented and so super special (it really flattens her character, you know? such amateurish writing), but the concept of investigating rumors for a newspaper was fun. also the All-Clucking Cucco one was hilarious.
the Stable Trotters were so charming! I really liked this sidequest chain too.
the Stormwind Ark was actually kinda cool too, gave me Skies of Arcadia vibes. I wonder if I could do anything with it...
I want to stress, before I go any further, that if you've read or are planning to read my fic Song of a Champion... Yunobo using the Boulder Breaker and Riju using scimitars are things I had planned before the trailer revealing this was a thing in TotK. it is yet another entertaining instance of me predicting/guessing things correctly. xD
if I ever do anything with a version of the Depths, they're gonna have more, well, depth. they should've had settlements, or at least the ruins of them, or... something, you know? love the concept, meh on the execution. :/
same with the sky islands. and the explanation for the Great Sky Island in that one sidequest there was... really not satisfying, sadly. deffo something I could toy with and improve on.
Hyrulean pizza. 'nuff said. I applaud wholeheartedly the decision to give us cheese and tomatoes and let us make one of the greatest culinary creations known to mankind.
I'm iffy on the mushroom fashion/additions to Hateno, but I like the idea of Cece opening a shop in Hateno and selling some of those new outfits I like. I especially liked the sets based on the three dragons, this would be a neat way to get them on Link in that SoaC follow-up I wanna do. especially because Mipha NEEDS to see him in the slutty ones
if I ever do a version of the episode Wizards Only, Fools for the AT AU, the Depths outfit would make a neat disguise to get Link in.
obviously I plan to have AT Link lose his arm. obviously.
the wells and caves were pretty fun. though I do wish there'd been something genuinely creepy at the bottom of at least one well...
the Desert Rift is something that I would love to put into the desert area in the AT AU, it has tons of potential. I definitely have Ideas.
I really want to have Mipha and Link go to the salt spa in Lurelin as a couples' thing. it's a small thing, but I think it'd be cute.
I do actually enjoy weapon fusion and I think those magic rods/staves in particular would be a neat addition to some AUs.
almost every enemy was a great addition to the roster (I say almost because THOSE ARE NOT PROPER GIBDOS I AM STILL MAD ABOUT THIS). hopefully the next game will have even more things to fight (I especially want ReDeads and ACTUAL Poes back).
speaking of Poes, I just. sigh. so many interesting things that could've been done there, that just... weren't. at bare minimum, if they were adamant about making them a form of currency, it would've been more fun to bring back the Poe Collector than have those statues. I want to work him into the AT AU (and I have ideas that kinda meld how Poes worked in past games with this one, I just need to sit and nail them down).
back on foodstuffs, I liked all the new ingredients. I already worked golden apples into Under a Strange Moon, and I'd love to find uses for the elemental fruits somewhere too. stambulbs and sundelions are neat too, as are the new pumpkin, the oil, and the mushroom and fish that make you glow.
on the less edible side, puffshrooms and especially muddle buds were a LOT of fun to play with.
on the "dubiously edible" side (because you can turn these into elixirs but not straight up FOOD), I really like the design of the deep fireflies. the sticky frogs and lizards were also really handy!
brightbloom seeds/flowers could be neat to use too...
that's all I can think of for now, but I'm sure I'm forgetting something

ok so its been a couple weeks how do u feel about totk zelink now
(context: here is part 1 of the ask, and also SPOILERS AHEAD!)
For reference, I am currently done with the dragon tears and sages questlines, but still haven't finished the Kogha one. Whatever happens after this point, I have no idea, I'm chilling and doing side quests and leveling up.
There is a difficult line to draw between "this is what the game is saying" and "this is what I am projecting onto it", but to me, this game is about how well Link knows Zelda. BotW was about trying to remember her and why she mattered, and TotK is about trying to figure out her plans and what she was trying to tell you, as she is no longer able to guide you the way she did in BotW. It's listening to what people are saying about her and deciding if it sounds like Zelda or not. It is beautiful, and shows how close the two of them are now! BUT. It would have worked even better if we saw traces of their relationship in the plot. This is a three-pronged feature: 1) In the main quest everyone calls Link "Zelda's swordsman" or "Zelda's chosen protector" and are surprised when they see him without her, but the NPCs STILL don't mention him. The way I almost screamed when I stumbled upon that Lurelin NPC who is like "oh yeah the princess would disguise herself and go on vacation and hike up to the Lover's Pond at sunset!" and I was READY to hear about the person accompanying her. But there was no one. Zelda was alone as far as this guy was concerned. Like pls. 2) Link should have revealed his thoughts on the mystery of Zelda's identity for this theme to work, at least by being the one to figure out the Zelda prancing around Hyrule is an impostor. In fact, the way they didn't try to incorporate the tears quest into the main storyline is pretty disappointing - sorry but Link would NOT just ignore knowing where Zelda is. They should have hidden the last few memories until you're done with the fifth temple to make sure he doesn't look like an idiot. 3) We are STILL in the "Link doesn't react properly to Zelda" era. I'm not even talking about animation, I would have settled for a "Don't look so concerned, we will figure it out!" or a "I know you wish to bring her back right away, but leave the research to me and focus on beating Ganon first!" from Impa at the end of the tears quest. Sure, I choose to interpret his mad dash through Hyrule Castle to get to the sanctum Ganon fight as him completely forgetting any caution or reason in his desperation to get to her, but is that really it? EVERYONE ELSE cares so so much about Zelda as a person instead of a princess, they are constantly talking about her, so Link could have gotten some moments of that too. I'm glad the game stated that Link's duty ended with the Calamity and he CHOSE to stay with Zelda, so it's not that he only cares because he has to, but I wish it was shown outside that one line in a secret diary.
In conclusion, I still stand by my previous claim: Skyward Sword did this same dynamic better, so if I hadn't played that game I might have been elated over this one, but alas. I am still hoping for an earth-shattering emotional moment towards the end of the game that is gonna render all my complaints wrong, I haven't lost hope, but wow my imagination is working overtime to keep me happy

Welp I’ve completed totk and it’s been about a month so I’d like to give my silly little thoughts on it
I’ll put my thoughts in category's things I enjoyed, moments that made me lose my mind, and of course things I hate
spoilers below obvs
Enjoyed
The game plays so good! You can do just about anything you can think of. They definitely set a new bar for quality. oh those poor future game designers
the title “legend of zelda” actually works this time lol
There’s sooo many little details in this game it makes me happy
they added more speech bubbles for npcs depending on what is happening
I love the new characters! Makes Hyrule more alive
Yona is so kind and pretty she even fixed Link’s zora armor!
Penn my writing partner that whole side adventure was fun and hilarious.
Mattison! MY GODDAUGHTER I LOVE THAT ENTIRE FAMILY.
Gomo helped me make my first $1000 so I’m legally obliged to kiss him on his head.
Tauro another history nerd. I like his dynamic with Paya!
I love the constructs all of them. The fact that they were made so long ago and yet still fulfill the roles they were made for make me sad. Plus the fact they actively miss the people who made them and wish for company adds to the sadness
I liked how they upped the difficulty of the shrines I’ll admit I had to look some of them up and then eminently get humbled by some of them
same with fixing some of the towers I’m embarrassed by the one that had weapons jamming the door
Anything that happens in Tarrey town.
Helping the hudson family prepare a great departure gift for their daughter? Beautiful
The dream house? Amazing
The fact you can take a pic of Mattison and show it to Rhondson and Hudson to cheer them up? Literal tears in my eyes
THE FACT THAT KILTON IS THERE AND WANTS PEOPLE TO LIKE MONSTERS AND IT’S WORKING?? Priceless
The lurelin village quest! Link saved an entire village and helped rebuild it and they give him the greatest rewards
The fact that Link can join the yiga clan. Yea fuck that Link guy I can’t stand his short blond ass Glory to Master Kohga
As you can probably tell I really like the side quests
I adored all the boss fights from slamming my face into ice to fighting against Shiver splatoon.
Gohma it’s good to see you again.
I really enjoyed the gibdo queen fight my only regret is not getting the sand boots before the fight
speaking of gibdos I was kinda sad they weren’t redeads but then I remembered Oh yea the royal family made redeads not ganondorf
And of course the best fight(s) ever MASTER KOGHA! GLORY BE TO HIM! I knew that guy wasn’t dead and I don’t think he’s dead after that last fight either bros got cartoon logic on his side. The fights weren’t hard but I liked seeing Link get run over
The ganondorf fights were AMAZING when his health bar took over all the way to the side of the screen I burst out giggling.
THE DEPTHS
I LOVE THE DEPTHS I HAVE EVERY LIGHTROOT DONE I LIVE THERE NOW SO SORRY HYRULE I CAN NOT SAVE YOU FOR I AM IN UNDERTALE AND COLLECTING CLOTHES OF PAST HEROS
The addition of caves and wells is nice
The well in Kakariko even has blood on the walls down there <3 great call back.
but no demon from hell trying to drag you under just a cutie patootie learning to cook for her family
the fact that there's an underground gerudo cemetery right under the ruins of Arbiter's grounds a bit fucked up but it’s another great call back
the fact we got something about zora ages and how gorons are born.
Lose my mind
The fact that a good portion of the constructs names are fucking Steward I call some of them Stewies
Purah pad... sounds like a hygiene product
The lady that calls Link a freak then sees he’s attractive and gives him an egg
Actually I feel like there’s even more people that find Link attractive from botw
the dick riding from the sign dude is crazy
The fact when Zelda said “Link you must come find me” and I followed up with “Why don’t you try to find me”... shouldn’t have said that
Misko WHO IS THIS PERSON WHY DID THEY HAVE ALL THIS STUFF
IT’S BECAUSE OF MISKO I CAN’T TELL WHAT’S CANON AND WHAT’S NOT WHY DID THEY MENTION THE FIERCE DEITY SO CASUAL AND HOW THEY KNOW I HAVE THE FULL SET OF SOMETHING TO GET ANOTHER REWARD
The fucking Cece side adventure
The entirety of Goron City. I swear Regandorf has something against Gorons first he was feeding them to a dragon in oot NOW HE’S GIVING THEM CRACK ROCKS
AND HE GOT MY BOI YUNOBO MAJORA’S MASKED
zora’s domain more like Delfino Plaza
And now I’m in Splatoon!
BLOND! NO ABS! NOT A VAI!
Riju still needs her high chair for her throne!!
the memories are ok but because you can get any of them whenever spoiled some shit. Like Sonia dying and Zelda turning into a dragon I didn’t even know there was a forth dragon until the final memory I just picked up the flowers and said “Welp i don’t know how to fix this”
the end of the bluepee quest for Kolton THAT left me speechless
in fact WHAT IS WITH THIS GAME AND MAKING PEOPLE EAT GEMS
“Link I pray...” GIRL YOU NEED TO STOP PRAYING IT’S CLEAR THE GODS DO NOT LIKE YOU
Above every bargainer statue is a goddess statue and that is cool and has some lore implications
Link suffering from the Tony hawk affect and how is zelda not How did they convince all of hyrule she’s the princess
Jumping monsters with the avatars
the sages mask making me think of majora’s mask
Hate
I’ll be up front about it right now I have not a single care about this story’s main plot which is sad cause it had a great opening
look as a gamer totk is great but as a lore enthusiast I’m going insane
i like the timeline and I’m never expecting the games to perfectly line up I mean cmon most of the games take in-between hundreds to thousands of years there ain’t no way
but to me totk doesn’t like a retcon of the timeline. it feels like a retcon of botw
I’ve always held onto the theory that botw takes place in a world where the timelines finally become one.
And I’m aware nintendo wanted to make it friendly to new players who didn’t play botw but... it’s a sequel
Don’t give me the whole “Majora’s mask is a sequel to OOT and those two are def different games” Cause 1 those games are over 20 years old so it’s not a sin to want a zelda game with a sequel that actually feels like one ( I ain’t ever forgiving nintendo for cancelling the tp sequel) and 2 totk takes feeling like a different game to the extreme by literally getting rid of parts that happened in botw
it literally contradicts it's self all the damn time
if Link is always with Zelda why does know one recognize him he’s on the missing poster with her cause everyone knows the princess
the disappearance of almost all sheika tech feels genially insulting
the fact that they just sideline the sheika in general is fucking insulting
the shrines?? the towers?? Cherry, Robbie’s most prized possession being reduced into something so small and now only has photos?!?!
THE DIVINE BEASTS????MY SLATE?!?! THE FUCKING SHRINE OF RESERECTION
And I know the running theory is that they went back underground or repurposed but do you know how much tech that is? to just take down somehow and then not see it any more the most you see is the guardians legs in the towers
Only like 2 maybe 3 people commented on Link’s fucked up arm and in the end he doesn’t even keep it! Rauru literally said it was unsalvageable
and at the end Zelda is just... fine Like no scaring or anything just saved by two ghosts who I didn’t think could do that
I hate the zonai I didn’t really think of them in botw cause I thought it’s just another tribed that helped 10,000 years ago and died out but noped they went from being a warrior tribe to god like beings who lived in the sky
they are the biggest inconsistencies and are just the ancient sheika with new coat of paint and for some reason there’s only two of them now
Honestly to me they kinda sound like colonizers and the fact there are minning facilities everywhere in the depths doesn’t help
Also Rauru your plan to seal Ganondorf failed! Twice!
And ganondorf what was your plan exactly why did you do all this I’ve seen better villain backstories in Splatoon and Kirby. This whole story is just black and white
Don’t think I didn’t notice how you changed the labyrinths Nintendo those bars on the floor weren’t there before
the fact Yunobo isn’t using daruk’s protection
The thunder helm is missing?? One of the gerudo’s most important piece of culture. a vital part of botw story too. Like yea you can get a copy from the yiga but where’s the real thing
Rito village... what did they do to you
No mention of Revali
The weirdest personality changes
the fact that they just sidelined Teba. you know the forth person to help you with the divine beasts an absolute powerhouse in aoc. the guy to be described as crazy and rude but knows his worth. Revali’s biggest fan??
Nope give the job to Tulin the character it seems alot of people didn’t know existed in botw. “Over shadowed by his dad” kid was like 5 and all he did was watch Link and Teba train and suddenly he’s hot shit with a never before seen magic ability that he just has
I liked rito village cause it’s two main character from their had to train to get to where they were
Like Tulin’s ok but it’s bad story telling you telling me all the new champs are now leaders of their respected societies but Teba is the only one to get sidelined (don’t give me the whole but in “age of calamity...” a noncanon game shouldn’t be used for a main story and if that would be the case the new champions fighting styles should be just like that game then)
Also I can’t tell how many years have passed cause why is Molli (Harth’s kid) Still small I thought Tulin and her where around the same age
Kass not being in the story obviously takes the game down to a 7/10 :(
And yea I’m aware that some people think he’ll be in a dlc later but that’s not an excuse for him not being in the base game.
Zora’s domain is exactly as I expected it to be but man Sidon you really are just here to be eye candy his ability sucks
god Sidon Teba you two used to be so blood thirsty in age of calamity what happened
why the fuck is it called gloom it’s always been malice and why did it only effect weapons and not the bows and shields
Speaking off where did the elemental weapons go? the different arrows? No one talks about them did Nintendo really get rid of them for the fused ability. they could have just added more power to them if you matched the elements right
The sages are just diet champions and I can’t tell, especially with the direction it seems to be going, if they have the same names as the sages in oot/ww cause in the zora murals you can read they talk about the sage Ruto in both games and we all thought they were talking about oot ruto falling in love with a hylian
I question this cause of the goat/llama/ whatever the fuck they are shares a sages name if that’s the case they really are just diet champions

Census of Hyrule 100 years post-calamity
Here are my final numbers! I've separated the population by tower region for convenience, and then further into towns, stables, and rural (neither). NPCs with no set location (such as Beetle and Pikango) and travelers who use the roads are grouped under Greater Hyrule. NPCs who change location due to plot have been counted under their final location. Koroks, Great Fairies, and the Yiga were excluded. Link was not. Please note that this includes travelers who are clearly not residents, because usually there's no hint of where they actually live.
Greater Hyrule: 48
12 at large and 36 on the roads.
Hateno Tower Region: 40
36 in Hateno village and 4 rural.
Faron Tower Region: 19
4 at Lakeside Stable, 12 in Lurelin Village, and 3 rural.
Lake Tower Region: 8
4 at Highland Stable and 4 rural.
Dueling Peaks Tower Region: 26
8 at Dueling Peaks Stable, 15 in Kakariko Village, and 3 rural.
Lanayru Tower Region: 37
5 at Wetland Stable and 32 in Zora's Domain.
Eldin Tower Region: 33
3 at Foothill Stable, 22 in Goron Village, 5 at the Southern Mine, and 3 at Gut Check Rock.
Wasteland Tower Region: 90
7 at Gerudo Canyon Stable, 10 at Kara Kara Bazaar, 65 in Gerudo Town, and 8 rural.
Tabantha Tower Region: 28
4 at Rito Stable and 24 in Rito Village.
Akkala Tower Region: 26
5 at East Akkala Stable, 6 at South Akkala Stable, 12 in Tarrey Town, and 3 rural.

It’s actually crazy how so many npcs reactions to hearing about what happened in Lurelin Village was being disappointed that they couldn’t vacation there. Like people literally almost DIED, but sure worry about your tropical getaway instead.

A family sitting around the fire for dinner... They all have something to say related to it, except Sebasto, who mentions the side quest he gave Link.

My brain is cooking up an absolute MOBSTER if a totk sequel idea
Pile of rant below the cut but the basically concept I think y’all will enjoy is that
post-totk Hyrule is going through a political rough patch about 15-20 years in the future, no one really knows what’s going to happen and the kingdom of Hyrule itself is shrunk down to really just central Hyrule down into the southeast to Lurelin. The individual races each have their own defined nations now and depending on political relations if can be easy or difficult to travel between them
(For example the Zora Kingdom and Hyrule are so close they’re practically merging due to how close the royals are, but no one’s been able to get into or out of Gerudo desert for YEARS)
And you play the game three times as three separate characters, each only having access to part of the map and only one side of the story, only to unlock a secret fourth storyline at the end that fully explains the plot.
Now onto the huge daydream universe I’ve been thinking up for a week
The crux of this story is a couple points:
1. Link entrusted each of his zonai abilities to young npc’s in the game. I haven’t exactly worked out what’s going to who yet but I know a few.
2. The Gerudo population began to see radical reactionary politics after the Demon King fiasco, with many desiring even stricter anti-man measures. Riju vehemently opposed these politics which created lots of tension, and decided to attempt to smooth things over by having an important Hylian political figure act as a sworn donee for her and her wife’s baby. It was Link. Like fathers Riju’s baby. Trust the process it’s gonna be cool.
The character who gets the Ultrahand ability straight away is Mattison, though she isn’t a playable character.
She keeps the ability a secret and learns to use it in hidden places with help from Riju. They become inseparable and Mattison wants nothing more than to protect her Chief and save their people from further isolating themselves.
Things gone to a head when Purah telraveks to the desert to give Riju an exam using new tech she just invented—essentially an ultrasound, and finds something… peculiar.
The baby might be a… male.
They do their best to keep quiet about it but Riju and up fighting with her wife over what to do about it. The wife insists that the child will only bring destruction and evil, as the Gerudo kinds of the ancient past. Riju insists that it is her duty as a mother to try regardless and if the child is truly doomed, she will save them from that fate herself.
But word soon gets out and an assasinqtion plot is put in place to rid them of Riju and the baby.
Meanwhile Mattison has been encountering a strange person out in the desert while she tests her vehicles in secret at night. A person covered head-to-tie in dark clothing riding a different zonai vehicle. They race each other night after night and eventually gain enough trust to speak with each other.
Mattison learns this person’s name is Coda and they are an engineer working with Zonai tech to make vehicles and musical instruments.
Their friendship grows and eventually when Mattison learns of the assasinqtion plot, she confides to Coda and asks for help getting Riju and the baby to safety.
They end up making a big flying machine and airlift Riju from a battle in the town square up to the Great Sky Island.
And that’s all you get to know about that at first.
Meanwhile Zelda and Link have kids of their own, a set of twins that legally carry their parents names as you’d expect, but go by nicknames to avoid any… negative attention for their lineage.
Free—the new Link—ends up spending most of his childhood in Rito Village after showing a liking for archery, areal combat, and climbing.
Free’s story begins when a diplomatic meeting is called between the Rito and the Gerudo at the border of their territory. Free accompanies an aging Teba and his apprentice Tulin along with some warriors to the meeting, where the illegitimate chief Malkena demands the Rito shrink their borders further despite already having the smallest territory in Hyrule. Teba obviously disagrees and a fight breaks out, Malkena killing Teba in the process. They are pushed back and the new elder Tulin asks Free to go to Lookout Landing and seek help from Purah. It is there he learns that his father Link hasn’t been seen in almost five years, but no one could get word to the Rito for various reasons.
Meanwhile his sister “Faith” is our second lead—YES, a playable Zelda!— stays in Tarrey Town helping run Link’s new business “Cafe on the hill” a small bakery and eatery run out of their sprawling mansion overlooking the town (which is more of a giant fortress city now)
She shows a propensity for magic, like her mother but more controlled and concentrated. She loves exploring and foraging in the hills of Hyrule and is very good at navigating on her own. When her father goes missing she is quick to want to look for him but the older population in the town assures her that he’s always been a wanderer. She waits and waits but he doesn’t come home. Faith then decides to seek consul from an eccentric old man who runs a monster museum who claims to have been a good friend of Link’s. The man (who we all know is Kilton) tells Faith to travel to Satori Mountain and pray at the tree, and she will find a guide there. And that’s where her story begins.
The third playable character is known as “Rise” or “Sunrise”, Riju’s son and the other’s half brother. Also a reincarnation of Ganon, though his storyline revolves around finding a way to stop himself from being overtaken by evil.
His mother insists that he needs to either find his father or his siblings, but he’ll likely have a hard time doing either as the royal family became secretive recluses after the Upheaval, and attempting to find thrm would likely warrant violence. She then recommends seeking out Zelda if anyone, as her whereabouts were likely the save as when Riju had last seen her: Hateno. So then in disguise Rise sets out to find Zelda who promises to assist him in fighting off the evil inside him, but he wound likely need to journey to find specific people and objects imbued with powerful magic.
And I have no idea where this all goes but after you defeat all three storylines a secret fourth story starts with a cutscene in the Depths (which only played a minor role in the first three, lots more time is spent in the sky and in lands just beyond Hyrule’s original borders)
A cloaked figure is seen kneeling at the foot of a small monument, it looks like a grave, with flowers in front of them.
A second figure, which is recognized pretty quickly as a younger Coda (who was seen frequently assisting the others in their own stories) in what looks like a modified Yoga outfit.
They call out “who are you and what are you doing at my father’s grave?”
The figure turns and stands, revealing an older, depressed looking Link. He holds out his hand and a purple ball appears in it. Coda takes it and is granted to Autobuild ability.
As it turns out Coda is also a twin, the twin children of Kohga. Their brother Kash is a staunch traditionalist and wants to run the clan just like hybrid father did. Coda on the other hand sees that this is a fruitless endeavor and wants to help the world, not harm it.
In their exploration of the depths Coda finds an ancient monument claiming to tell the story of his the endless cycle started, and how it can only end the exact way it began.
It also indicated that what remained of the gloom was coming from a specific source, though what it was is anyone’s guess. So Vida begins to build and research, eventually meeting the cast and helping them along.
However in the final battle of the fourth route the master sword shatters.
It is revealed at the end that the source of the power for evil was a tomb hidden in the depths, which all 4 character have heard calling out countless times.
The evil beast thing raises its head once more and they tear open the coffin to find a large sword.
Coda takes the sword and plunges it into the demon, which destroys it and in its wake the sword shimmers and shifts into the form of an unconscious man.
Everything fades to black, credits roll.
And there’s so much I didn’t even have a good spot to put in—like a certain Zora sneaking into Pyrah’s laboratory to de-age her best friend so he won’t die a million years before her
Or the fact that certain monsters gained (or re-gained) sentience after the Gloom retreated to the depths and now there’s entire Lynel and ‘Blin societies and the conflict between the ones who want to work with the Hylians and the ones who still want war is a huge plot point
Or that at one point I turn Koltin’s entire existence into a Chekhov’s gun and allow Faith to commune with nature spirits and call upon his protection to OBLITERATE a massive pile of enemies

I think after Side Order it's extra funny that those shippers™ (especially on twitter they literally still yap about it to this day) were bending over backwards trying to prove Nintendo had some homophobic agenda.
Like we have Side Order, which features a very unsubtle lesbian couple (Pearl and Marina) as well as Acht who uses they/them pronouns.
I actually think totk itself is a step up from botw in terms of queerness actually! They got rid of the trans woman caricature, and that orientalist ass outfit/transphobic quest. There are also tons of masculine framed NPCS who wear makeup, and the fucking new outfits are so damn cunty? They also brought Bolson back and toned him down without destroying his personality, and making his quest about using his skills to help people. Emphasizes the fact that he's really strong and really smart because he's a damn architect/construction worker. (I also think he's literally living with the Lurelin mayor hello?) And if you're really that mad about gay fish specifically there's two incidents of homoerotic dialogue Dorephan says about/to Muzu. As far as I'm aware Muzu and Yona are not related please don't cut my head off or call me a proshitter if I'm wrong 😭😭
