Can you imagine how sorrowful the kokiri were after Link disappeared? Can you imagine their heartbreak after loosing two loved ones in the same ‘day?’ Their protector, gone and dead, even with the seedling left behind it did not help with mending their broken hearts. Neither did loosing the child the spirits helped raise. He had swore to do right by the Deku Tree and do right by Hyrule, leaving all that he knew behind. When Link comes back to kokiri forest after the 7 year slumber, a slumber that would forever change his tired mind, he finds somewhere in the forest a small pile of rocks and sticks. Its a grave, on that he had never seen before nor remembered being so close to his home. A grave that had all sorts of flowers, freshly craved ocarinas and little toys scattered about it. Childish objects, ones that once had his face splitting with a smile to see. But as he admired the small grave, on one of the biggest stones a simple engraving stood out amongst the rubble.

One of my personal favorite legend of zelda headcanons is that Lynels were either not always bestial monsters who would attack on sight (or can evolve to be an intelligent social race after being freed from Ganon's influence, but I like the deep lore of them having been corrupted by Ganon and being able to return to their previous state once he is gone).

They're already clearly very intelligent. They're the only enemy that can figure out you're not a Lynel when you're wearing the Lynel mask just by looking at you. They're able to fire an arrow up into the air and hit you even if you're standing behind an object that obscures you. They switch from ranged to melee weapons based on how far you are from them. It shows they have some reasoning abilities and even understanding of physics beyond a very base instinctual level.

I like to imagine that Lynels would still be largely solitary creatures in their uncorrupted state, sometimes moving about in small groups based in either family units or teams united for a common purpose. But maybe they did at one point in the very distant past have a homeland where they could congregate, perhaps outside Hyrule which is why it's unknown in the present.

I think they'd actually be very academic, and would travel a lot to study and document in their chosen field, hence the largely nomadic lifestyle. The combination of hardy hooves and dextrous hands would help them easily traverse places that would be impassible for normal hooved creatures and footed creatures alike. They are capable of feats of both great strength and delicate dexterity, and once produced great works of art.

Given the way they seek out very high, isolated places, astronomy may have been a common chosen field of study.

Their fall was concurrent with the beginning of the imprisoning war, which was the first time they were recorded appearing in Hyrule in official histories. They had previously traveled into the wilds of Hyrule, but any accounts made by people of the time were lost to the ages, and the accounts from the war only survived due to the fact that so many Lynels appeared together that they were witnessed by many people.

I like the idea of, after the events of ToTK, the Lynels regaining their full intelligence and appearing to speak to Zelda. Link immediately moves to attack but everyone is startled when the Lynel speaks. Zelda orders Link to stand down and gives him the chance to explain, and he does so and offers allyship of his people, who mean to reestablish a society outside of Hyrule. Zelda offers aid and they accept, and though all the races of Hyrule are extremely nervous about them, they start to interact and work together.

Also, in any story where a version of Ganondorf is saved, is able to return and be reformed, etc, the Lynels at first regard him as a mortal enemy for what he did to their people, and only eventually tolerate him if he proves he has changed (or, alternatively was corrupted by a being/force like Demise himself, in which case many Lynels actually turn around and accept him and mourn over what was done to all of them together).

I have so many fanfic ideas now, tbh.

How I imagine Link and Zelda's first meeting in most lifetimes is this tiny autistic boy playing quietly by himself, when all the sudden this seemingly half feral equally tiny ADHD Princess bounces up to him and demands that he invites him to informs him that he is playing with her now, and "Oh? Completely random Ravio headcanons (to heal the soul)

—Ravio and Mural are born in the same year, but their birthdays are on the opposite of each other (exactly six months apart). This means that Mural’s birthday is in May while Ravio’s is in November. (If my math isn’t totally shit)

—Rav isn’t very keen on sharing too many details about his past; Mural still isn’t entirely sure if he really was a traveling merchant before he came to Hyrule, or if that’s just something he made up as a disguise.

—The real answer? Yes and no. He has always been creative and handy, with a knack for making things. Particularly weapons and inventive new gadgets. At a point, he was forced to start selling them to make a living; and though it was never his intentions, he turned out to be a pretty good salesperson. He may not seem like it, but he is indeed very analytical and observant, and uses these skills to persuade customers.

—Sometime before the events of ALBW, he was appointed by princess Hilda to design and create weapons for the royal guard. He eventually became a sort of advisor for the princess, and they formed a rather close bond before Yuga interfered.

—He considers himself a pacifist, though he does carry several weapons on his person at all times… just in case.

—He can be quite paranoid, in several ways… the most obvious one can be traced back to his upbringing in the slums of Lorule, and it speaks for itself. He’s had enough experiences with thugs and other malicious people to always be a little bit on edge whenever he meets a newcomer.

—Whenever Mural goes on a quest or adventure, he makes sure to bring home souvenirs if he can. He knows Rav is fond of exotic jewelry, pottery and all sorts of other artifacts

—I like to think that Hyrule’s cultural traditions are predominantly centered around music, while Lorule’s is focused on paintings and visual art. Hyrulean holidays and rituals are often based on music, song and dance — music is a highly appreciated and common skill, but it is also considered sacred. Meanwhile, Lorule has a rich artistic history, though painting is an activity that few people can afford to do anymore. If anything, it has become an important symbol of status — Lorule Castle is littered with impressive paintings and ornaments.

—All this to explain why Ravio values art as deeply as he does, and why he enjoys painting despite everything Yuga did.

—I know I have written about this before; but Ravio is the one who designed the magical rod that Yuga uses during ALBW — as well as his magical bracelet. It was never intended to be used on humans, though. The intention was to use it on inanimate objects, to store them safely (you can retrieve them at will) and alternatively, to create murals in a far more effective way.

—After ALBW, Lorule’s triforce is restored, but there is still a lot of work left to do to heal the kingdom. While Ravio spends a lot of time in Hyrule, setting up a permanent shop in Mural’s house, he is also dedicated to helping princess Hilda and doing charity work in Lorule.

I found a Reddit thread to help visualize this (link to it here) and HES EVEN TALLER THAN URBOSA.

And even in the comments of that thread someone measured their heights and Rhoam is about 8ft 6in (while Urbosa is 7ft 4in)

Botw/Totk headcanon: Sheikah NPCs beyond Kakariko

after impa being the Last of Her Kind for nearly 20 years, we were kind of spoiled with the era of wilds sheikah. still, kakariko is known for it's older population and botw makes a point to let us know paya isn't used to seeing people her age. this post is about asking 'where are they?' and filling in the gaps. being a peaceful farming village it makes sense the younger gens would want to leave as soon as they can for some adventure.

sheikah typically have hair on the grey-to-white scale (granté proves this isn't a requirement), and unlike the past games they have a greater diversity in eye colour. below is a list of hylian npcs that look too young to have greying hair that i hc are either from kakariko, or have some sheikah ancestry.

from left to right: lecia, letty, mina, her brother mils by proxy, teli, juney, and baumar. i'll go into more detail about each under the cut, comparing them from the 2 games alongside some more headcanons. some of them i haven't found in totk yet, so i'll edit when i do.

pic on the left side is them in botw, totk on the right.

Mina is a treasure hunter looking for loot with her brother by the exchange ruins outside the great plateau. the siblings also show up in the dlc. they're trying to steal a sheikah heirloom back from the yiga hideout, though they don't know it's purpose - they just wanna sell it. in totk she walks on the path between lakeside stable and lurelin. she says that even treasure hunters deserve some fun once in a while, so we can assume she's takin' it easy. Mils, meanwhile...

...joined the zonai survey team, and moans about what tough work it is. he walks through pagos woods to the zonai ruins. he joined in the hopes it would lead him to treasure, but he hasn't had his lucky break yet. most hylians travel from stable to inn and can be assumed not to have a proper home due to the lasting effects of the calamity. this is my bias but i like to think he's talking about kakariko when he mentions home. let him grow some pumpkins and wrangle cuccos. he wishes to live a quiet life.

i find it sweet him and mina are both in faron. maybe they decided to split up and cover more ground? with mina off sunbathing and sipping mimosas in lurelin, mils got the short end of the stick again.

Baumar:

'i hope you die': lazy, cliché, unrealistic. 'i hope your favourite botw npc gets mushroomed and bowlcutted': it's scary, it's possible, it's happening to me right now. such was the fate of our poor resident shield-surfer bro from botw. known for many hit quotes such as 'let's go bamboo! yahoo!', 'shield surfing is like, totally radical, dude', and my favourite:

in botw he rides his horse on the path between serenne and snowfield stable. in totk he's part of the fashion tour-group that run around hateno village. maybe he went to hebra to show his 'wicked' surfing moves to selmie and she said 'kid, if i let you out on the slopes you'll die. sorry'. his world was completely shattered beneath him like a broken shield, so he turned to cravats and puffy short shorts to cope.

his name is similar to the hills of baumer above deya village ruins. maybe he's a descendent of the few survivors. i wonder what his ancestors are thinking now, watching what he does with the gift of life.

Teli walks between fort hateno and hateno village. He sells ancient guardian parts and even mentions he trades them with Robbie. he has a high opinion of himself and tells you he's known across hyrule for his 'roguish good looks.' in totk he's one of the men in the 'Gourmets gone missing' Penn quest that gave himself food-poisoning by riverside stable. after which he scares away some cuccos and makes you wrangle them for a sidequest. just L after L for this dashing rogue.

Juney, now famous for her rupee grinding sand seal minigame, i instantly recognised as the epic divorce woman from rito village. her attitude is just as surly as ever but they gave her a soft side. i like that every minigame location could not be further from hateno. you'll find that school someday queen.

she was a newly wed mad at her husband, jogo, for choosing a cold place for their honeymoon. he begs you to give him flint to cook some baked apples for her to save their already failing marriage.

in totk they're not together, jogo inhabits a cabin in tabantha village ruins with another woman. he didn't give her enough baked apples.

Letty walks along the path between lakeside stable and lurelin. she gives you cooking tips and that's pretty much it. i'm pretty sure i've met her as a yiga disguise more often than i've seen the real her. if anyone has found her in totk, please let me know.

Lecia is a new character in totk. she's with the research team and plays a part in the foothill stable Penn quest. she kind of looks like a grown up Koko. maybe a distant relative? but maybe she's not sheikah. maybe the sight of all those pasty naked man nips traumatised her so bad she got marie-antoinette syndrome from the shock. i haven't seen her since.

thank you if you read to the end. to clarify i'm working on some fic stuff and that entails finding npcs across the overworld to give some more lore. it's a sheikah focused fic so i needed some characters other than the kakariko residents. it's also just fun fleshing out random npcs to make the world feel more lived in. again, i'm missing some details like what mina does before you save lurelin, so i'll edit this post in the future.
