24. The Mountain Goats- Jenny From Thebes

Azon gondolkoztam ma, hogy állandóan puffogok azon, hogy Sajó Dávid bármiről ír kritikát, sosem bírja ki, hogy ne írjon benne magáról, aztán közben meg én is ezt csinálom. Mentségemre szóljon, hogy én ezt nem az ország egyik legnagyobb hírportálján csinálom, hanem egy sokkal menőbb helyen, a retisonic tumblren! Na akkor jöjjön egy kis klasszikus sajózás!

A Mountain Goatsot 2004-ben ismertette meg velem @mengisztu a Soulseek Igényes Zene Magyaroknak chat szobájában. Ezt a szobát én alapítottam egy sráccal, aki sajnos már nincs velünk, és elvileg egy nyílt, bárki számára elérhető szoba volt, de az esetek 99%-ban mindig ugyanaz 8-10 IRL haver volt ott. Nagy ritkán betévedt valaki, akit megtévesztett a szoba neve, aztán általában 10 perc múlva ki is lépett az elképesztő bullyingtól, amit kapott. Ami vicces, hogy volt egy-két ember, aki megragadt ott a zaklatások ellenére is, ezeket sosem értettem. Fun fact 1: a szoba a mai napig létezik, egy-két évente felnézek, de senki nincs ott.:( Na szóval itt ajánlotta mengisztu ezt a zenekart, méghozzá ezt a számot, ami azért mókás, mert ez egyáltalán nem mountain goats-os, viszont elérte, amit akart, felkeltette az érdeklődésem! Akkor már jópár éve működött a Goats, ami John Darnielle egyszemélyes lo-fi projektje volt. És amikor azt mondom, hogy lo-fi, akkor azt értsétek úgy, hogy LO-FI! A korai lemezekhez/kazettákhoz képest a magyar hálószoba-pop szcéna dolgai nagyzenekari mesterművek audiofil technikával felvéve! Ha mengisztu a korai dolgokkal próbálkozott volna, talán sosem szeretem meg a Mountain Goatsot, de szerencsére van egy csavar a sztoriban, mégpedig, hogy 2003-ra John Darnielle leszerződött egy viszonylag nagy kiadóhoz, kapott lóvét stúdióra, és még lettek zenésztársai is. Ez lett a Tallahassee c. lemez, ezen volt a szám, ami felkeltette az érdeklődésemet, és ez azóta is a kedvenc lemezem a Mountain Goatstól. Egy válásról szóló gyönyörű konceptalbum remekül idézhető szövegekkel, ami amúgy is Darnielle erőssége. Még egy kisebb sláger is lett róla, a No Children. Fun fact 2: egy-két éve ilyen trending dal lett a Tik-Tokon, még ilyen koreográfiát is csináltak hozzá a fiatalok! Na, és ezután a lemez után így nagyon megindult a szekér, Darnielle ilyen intézmény lett, kiadott három iszonyat jó lemezt három év alatt, de nem lassított, csak jött a többi lemez, én meg feladtam, nem bírtam a tempót. Mindig meghallgattam azért az aktuális lemezt egy ideig, és nem is tűntek rossznak, de mindig az volt bennem, hogy hé, még az előzőt sem dolgoztam fel, időt kérek! De nem volt idő, én meg elengedtem, és az utolsó egy-két lemezt már meg sem hallgattam.

Így jutunk el 2023 őszéhez, amikor egyik délelőtt a gyűlöletes levélszedéshez választottam volna valami zenét, és a Spotify feldobta ezt a lemezt, mint újdonság. Miért ne? Rossz biztos nem lesz, mert rossz Mountain Goats lemezt még nem hallottam. Meg olvastam, hogy gitározik meg vokálozik rajta Alicia Bognanno, akiről (SPOILER!!) még lesz szó a listában! És hát nem az, hogy nem volt rossz, hanem, hogy tök jó volt!! Bár a kezdetek óta sokat finomodott, gazdagodott a zenekar hangzása, de amennyi vonós meg fúvós ezen a lemezen van, engem is totál meglepett. Persze rengeteg vonós és fúvós sok zenében van van, szóval ez még nem lett volna le a lábamról, de itt tök ízlésesen elhelyezve a tök jó dalokban, amik pont addig tartanak, ameddig kell, szóval lehetőleg ne egy November Raint képzeljen el senki, hanem mint pl. a nyitószám. Azt hiszem, életem legjobb levélszedése volt, bár nem volt túl magasan a léc, de na. Szerintem már így elsőre tudtam dúdolgatni a dalokat, és tök jó kedvem lett a lemeztől, pedig a szövegek sokszor a szokásos nyomasztó témákról szólnak. Eleve a lemez címében szereplő Jenny egy ilyen visszatérő karakter a lemezeken, egy lecsúszott drogfüggő csaj Nyugat-Texasból. Most is tök sok kevésbé vidám dolgot csinál, még embert is öl. A legjobb, vagyis inkább a legváratlanabb pillanat az volt, amikor az utolsó számban megszólal a szoprán-szaxofon (legalábbis azt hiszem, hogy ez a szoprán-szaxofon), mintha valami régebbi Sting szám lenne, ami egyáltalán nem rossz dolog szvsz imho. Azóta sokszor meghallgattam ezt az albumot, és talán lehetne előrébb is a listán, de igazából nem tudom kit előzhetne be. Ez is jelzi, hogy innen már nem kispályás lemezek lesznek, hanem csupa igazi nagyágyú!!!

I’m a relatively new comic reader, having started reading comics in Jan. 2022, so please be patient with me if I’m not able to discuss a story or character in great detail due to lack of full context.
