Dating Shoresy Headcannons
Tumblr media
Writing this because it is CRIMINAL how little Shoresy/Letterkenny content there is on this website. I go feral for this man it isn't even funny. I mean, look at his smile...
Shoresy loves cuddling. He loves to be the big spoon AND the little spoon, depending on his mood.
He’s happy? He’s the big spoon all night long, pulling you so you’re tucked under his chin and his arms are wrapped around you.
He’s feeling kind of down? You better hold onto him. He will burrow himself in your side and wrap your own arms around him if he needs to. Bonus points if you stroke his hair without him having to ask. He’s so soft.
Very much into casual PDA. Despite his reputation, with you he isn’t as in your face with it. He likes the small gestures with you. He’s sitting? You get pulled into his lap. Standing next to him? His arm is around your waist. He’s leaving the room? Mandatory kiss on your cheek.
His family loves you. His adopted family is very important to him so he loves how well you get along with them. Even to the point where they give you a special nickname, just like everyone else. You go to every Shore reunion, make up dances with Kayla, and are even helping Carrie and Free plan their wedding.
You started calling him Waffles, and as sweet as that was, once you started doing it around the team he shut that down real fast.
Speaking of the team, they also love you. The boys are now officially your big brothers. If you need help with anything, there will be at least two of them there. Sometimes they’re helpful. Sometimes they're not. But at least they try in their own way. And if a guy looks at you the wrong way then Lord help him because he will have 8 grown men beating the hell out of him.
With that being said, if Shoresy catches a man being disrespectful to you, it is an immediate punch being thrown. No questions asked. And if the other team is chirping about you? Shoresy will be in the penalty box for the rest of the game, no questions asked (along with half the team).
You're their unofficial nurse, patching them up after scraps, games, and helping them with the occasional hangovers. Your nurse duties include homemade ice packs, the occasional wrapped ankle, and massages, but only for Shoresy.
As much as he talks a tough game he's such a softie. He has no problem being vulnerable with you. Talking about your future together, his stress about games, his doubts. He lays it all out for you and you are always there for him. It’s one of the things he fell for when he first met you.
You always babysit Big Sexy when Shoresy’s out of town. She even learned to say your name. Shoresy seemed a little betrayed, but when he saw how excited you were about it he was so amused.
You go to every one of his games. In the time you’ve known him, you don’t think you had ever missed a single one. He always said that you didn’t have to go to all of them, especially the away ones, but you know that he loved seeing you there, so you went every time. Your bum was always in a seat. Even on nights he was reffing the high school games, you were there. It always made him smile, seeing you cheer out of the corner of his eye. And if he scored a goal, he’d celebrate with his team and then give you the biggest smile.
Even Nat saw how much you meant to him. She had always known the serious hockey player, but she hadn’t seen him be serious over a significant other like this. If he wasn’t at practice, then he was with you. If there was a lull in conversation that he couldn’t fill with hockey or a smart ass comment, he was talking about you. It was nice to see that side of him.
You are constantly stealing his hats and his sweatshirts. They smell like him, a mix of his cologne, his mint dip, and the crisp air that always lingered from the rink. You often wore them to bed and to lounge around the house and he thought it was so sexy. He loved seeing his last name (and the 69) on your back. He would think it’s the sexiest thing you could wear, until he saw you trying on his hockey sweater. He knew he would never see a hotter sight than that.
You make sure to always have a can of dip in your car or in your apartment for him. You don’t condone it, warning him of the dangers of cancer and stuff like that, but you knew he liked to have it on hand. He definitely tried to dip less when he was around you.
He makes sure to tell you he loves you every day. Usually multiple times a day. He’ll even send you random texts throughout the day telling you he loves you.
He loves it when you lay in bed and trace his tattoos with your fingers. He gets the biggest shivers but it warms his heart so much.
Believe it or not at first he was so self conscious about his missing tooth. He always wore his denture so he didn’t scare you off, but the first time you saw him without it, you demanded he never wear it around you again. You loved his missing tooth. It was a part of him, and you thought it made his adorable smile all that much cuter.
His chirping skills have definitely rubbed off on you. Sometimes you even surprise yourself with the things that come out of your mouth, but he just laughs, pulls you into his chest, and gives you a small kiss on your temple. The man is so proud that you are just as much of a smart ass as he is. If someone is being super rude or annoying the two of you will tag team the put downs so it can be a full ten minutes of nothing but insults and sarcasm.
The man is a space heater. He can stand outside in the snow with absolutely no problem. Your fingers are cold, he’ll grab your hand and they’re thawed in minutes. When you have cold toes in bed, you’ll put them on his calves and in minutes they are warmed up. Even if he jumps at the sudden cold but he doesn’t really mind, as long as you are happy.

What if after Peaches has her 8 kids she gets killed by the celestial realm or something, and there's nothing the Sun family can do but wait for their mother/wife to be reincarnated, which leads to the whole 'Monkey King meeting his Peaches again after hundreds of years due to MK' situation? How would that situation change with the babies being around, desperate to see their mama?
Sorry for the multiple asks! Feel free to ignore them if it's too much or uninteresting.
oh man. that'd be an awkward family reunion, considering she won't remember any of them.
also the destruction wukong would cause to the celestial realm after they murk his wife? astronomical. and his first three kids are old enough by then to join in, and they do so eagerly.
so to start, the sun kids are all basically grown by the time wukong finds mk, with seventh and eighth being around ten years old in demon age. the siblings more or less welcome the new addition with open arms, though some more than others.
mk grows up surrounded by siblings, and oddly enough, is better adjusted socially because of it? while the influence of some of them may be questionable (cough second third fifth cough), for the most part his family is his safe place. he'd probably be a smidgen less dependent on his friends because of it. he's also less defensive and scared than the version of him without siblings.
however, the subject of their mama is one that mk is woefully left out of. he never got to meet the original reader, and his siblings (except hua and chāo, who were a bit too small to remember her clearly) don't talk about her much. mk has gotten jūn and zíhào to talk about her a little bit, but da xia just gets defensive and refuses to entertain the subject. xīnyi also deflects whenever reader comes up. the only ones willing to give mk any sort of backstory are jiāo hui and xuě fēng. those two, along with hua and chāo, are his closest friends.
in the case of mk going to the human world, i imagine wukong being slightly less reluctant to let mk go, if only because he knows that jūn, jiao hui, and xuě fēng hang around the city as well, so mk would have support. wukong would still make mandatory home visits though, since he knows his kids might not be telling him the whole truth when they report on their baby brother.
as for the event of meeting reader; wukong almost cries, seeing her again. his first interaction with her new incarnation is...softer, more subdued. reader feels a little bad for him. he seems so withdrawn, he must miss his son. she's less suspicious of him because of his attitude.
wukong doesn't know what to tell his children. their mother is reborn, but she isn't their mother anymore. she won't know any of them. he doesn't want to put them through the pain of seeing her if she can't greet each of them knowing who they are.
however.
there might be a way to reawaken his wife and mother of his children. she still exists in the soul inhabiting this new body, he just needs to bring her back to the forefront of their consciousness. he'll tear apart heaven and earth looking for a way.
cue angst and fear, and a fun time for mk trying to keep reader a secret from his more volatile siblings. zíhào, da xia, and xīnyi would likely just kidnap reader for their father if they knew, thinking, similarly to him, that they can bring back the spirit of their mother.
also, macaque has been freed by now (it may or may not have been jūn and xuě fēng who removed the seal on his mountain), and is close friends with reader. in this case, jūn warns macaque of his father's plan to try and bring back the previous reader, so he has more time to plan on how he's gonna save her.
macaque has missed the smile on reader's face, her jokes, her sass...she's much like she was when they were on the journey together. he doesn't want her new, free incarnation to have to live as a prisoner to the monkey king's sick idea of love.
he failed her all those centuries ago. he won't fail her again.
....
(also, the reason none of the other kids can weild a magic staff, but mk can; half humanity. at least that's what wukong figures it is. his kids are all almost as strong as him, so that can't be why they can't lift it. must be magical bullshit, he thinks.)

It had been nearly 5 months since Bear had left the deck of the USS Abraham Lincoln in order to meet with Admirals Will “Shark” Harris, Beau “Cyclone” Simpson, and Navy psychologist, Dr. Hazelwood. They had required her to take a mandatory leave effective immediately, weekly sessions with Dr. Hazelwood, and had barred her from engaging in discussions relating to the day to day operations of the US Navy and its members, as well as forbidding any contact with those directly involved in the investigation of what would be former Lieutenant Commander Colton “Hazard” Richards.
Needless to say, the third condition struck a nerve in the Commander. Her team was her family, as she had said numerous times, and in her mind, it was needlessly cruel. The rest of her orders she could understand. Hazard had been taken off the ship directly by NCIS agents along with the rest of his so-called team, and she knew that Bug, FAK, Daisy, Shrike, Jake and a few others would be crucial in building the case against these five. But that also meant she couldn’t talk to them until after they had finished up their parts for the agents and the prosecution.
She couldn’t talk to her family. Nor they to her, and it tore her heart to shreds.
But Bear just nodded, gritting her teeth in frustration. “Sirs, may I suggest a change to the conditions?”
Admiral Simpson looked surprised at her boldness, but her boss, Admiral Harris had expected this and motioned for her to continue regardless of the look on his colleague’s face. “You may, Commander.”
“I would like to request a psychologist not connected to the US Navy.” Bear’s tone was even, controlled. She knew what she needed and unfortunately this psychologist wouldn’t be it. “I mean no disrespect to you, ma’am. I have no doubt of your qualifications, but in order for me to be at the level I need to be, I require counseling from someone that isn’t going to sign off on me the second I show even a fraction of improvement.” This was a genuine concern. Bear knew that if they could slap an ‘all better’ on her file right now, then they would. However, for her sake, for the sake of her team, Bear had to be at her best and right now, she was far from it.
Harris raised an eyebrow in curiosity. “And who exactly is going to fill in for Dr. Hazelwood?” He had been caught off guard by Bear yet again. Both he and Cyclone had figured that Bear would want to be put back into the field as soon as possible. Neither one of them had considered this request as something that she would ever bring up.
“I’m sure that there are private psychologists who have been vetted by the Navy should this ever arise.” She met Cyclone’s gaze and held it, refusing to even entertain the idea of a compromise. Bear knew that she was damaged, that her experiences had broken something inside of her that couldn’t be fixed with three sessions and a bandaid. She needed help, and deep down, Bear knew that she would walk away from this life if she couldn’t get the help she needed. “This is one of those circumstances.”
Cyclone glanced at Shark before nodding. “We’ll see that that is done, Commander. And may I commend you for your professionalism at this time. It is a rare thing.”
Bear nodded in thanks, her jaw feeling like it had been wired shut. She shifted on her feet, ignoring the itchiness of a scab on her side while the Admirals talked at her, discussing item after item, barely taking more than a few seconds to ensure that the information was being absorbed. She had been in that office for far too long and her mind was nearly at its breaking point.
Now though, Bear sat on her couch, wrapped up in a blanket as she stared at the wall. Today’s session had left her emotionally drained and she wanted nothing more than to be with someone, to be near someone. She had gone home to Vermont almost immediately after her leave had been approved and spent two of the five months with her moms, both loving and hating the familiarity of it all.
She recognized the feeling as the same one that had hit her after her first deployment. Bear had gone home and the world had seemed different. The lush forests that she used to train in, the well-worn trails feeling foreign, the overall peaceful serenity unnerving. It was almost like she had stepped back into a life that wasn’t hers, a period of her history that had faded and been lost to time. She distantly remembered sobbing in her mother’s arms, the reason long forgotten to time, memory, and pain.
Since that time however, Bear had grown stronger and bolder, grown into who she was now. Rather, who she had been before Hazard and his goons tried to ascertain a command of their own. She knew that eventually the pain would heal, and thanks to Dr. Carter, her new psychologist vetted personally by Admiral Harris, Bear was well on her way to managing the nightmares, trauma, and the sting of betrayal brought in spades by Operation Hellfire.
So Bear sat, the silence filling her, bringing her a semblance of peace. She had recovered slowly; spending hours focusing on her breathing, going to the gym on nights that sleep eluded her, writing down what she could about her day, and just did her best to heal. She couldn’t recall the last time she had had so much time to do what she wanted and it was both scary and freeing.
The prosecution had finished with her main team three months after her leave had begun and Bear had cried after getting the email from Harris that she could chat with a few of her team, namely Fireball and Bug. The lawyers had wanted to spend longer talking to those who had been directly impacted by Hazard’s actions and those who had been crucial in putting together the evidence for them.
She had given her own initial testimony days after being put on leave, much to the anger of Admiral Harris who had demanded that his Commander be allowed time to recover from her ordeal. It had been difficult. She had barely been able to piece together sentences of her experience, the words getting lost in the fear and pain she had been through, but she had persevered. She pushed through it, tearing open the mental wounds she had spent weeks trying to heal and in her pain, her tears, Bear had found it within her to admonish the prosecutor who demanded answers. He had been stunned into silence from the force of her words as she stood shaking in front of him.
He had backed off. Given her time. He had requested time to speak with her again a month ago and she had felt ready, so Bear had finally worked through the apprehension and spoke with him, detailing what she could remember. He thanked her, offering his apologies for his brusque nature the first time they had met, and told Bear that he would call if he had any more questions.
And despite all obstacles against her, Bear was healing. Today’s session hadn’t made her burst into tears. It wasn’t much, but it was progress. Progress that she was immensely proud of. Bear had also heard from Dr. Carter that her mandatory leave was up soon, and that Cyclone and Shark wanted to meet with her in a few days.
She was ready. Bear was ready to see her team again, her family. Maybe if she impressed her bosses, they would let her train with her team. The mere thought had her smiling widely as she picked herself up from the couch and wandered into the kitchen to make dinner. It was nothing fancy, but Bear still found herself dancing as she cooked, the joy seeming to radiate off of her. “If only Jake were here,” she thought. “Then it would be perfect.”
===
The day of her meeting came quickly, and Bear had never been more excited to put her uniform on than today. It beat out the first time she had put it on by a mile and she didn’t quite know what to make of that. Each button fastened brought her closer to her goal: Harris and Simpson had to be convinced that she was better, that she wasn’t a risk.
Bear grabbed her backpack, keys, phone, and wallet and slipped out the front door of her house. The same house that had once stood out for being starkly unlived in, now seemed to blend in a little more. The flower beds were now full and blooming in colors they never had before, the lawn was clipped, and it looked like a home. With all the time on her hands, the work made her feel normal. It had been a source of peace for her while she recovered and it continuously made her grin as she drove the roads to the base.
The guard at the entrance to the base had shouted “Welcome home!” when she had rolled her window down and his enthusiasm made her laugh as she handed him her new ID.
“It’s good to be back.” Bear took back her card, waving to him as she drove into the base, parking as close as she could to the Admiral’s office and slowly made her way inside, passing colleagues and friends who each greeted her with smiles, handshakes and hugs.
“Commander. It’s good to see you.”
“Sirs.” Bear couldn’t help but grin a little as she saluted the two men before her. “It’s good to be back.”
“At ease, Commander.” Cyclone gestured for her to take a seat in front of him, eyes watching Bear as she did. “We received word from Dr. Carter that she feels you are ready to come back.”
“Yes Sir. I was informed of the same.” Bear shuffled in her chair, trying to get comfortable. The cold sterility of the meeting room they sat in never failed to make her uncomfortable and today was no different, especially when she was waiting desperately to see those whom she hadn’t seen in over five long months.
Admiral Harris glanced over at Bear. “And do you feel the same?” He could sense her eagerness to return to the job, his Commander was hardly subtle in that regard. Her love for her job and her people was something he hoped her successor would possess and from what he had seen from Bug, he knew that Team 3 was in phenomenal hands.
“I do. I don’t think I’m ready to be deployed immediately, but I feel ready to rejoin my team, to start training again.” Bear knew what she wanted from this meeting, and she could tell that the men across from her knew it too, but this was still a formality that they all had to go through.
“I see.”
And the conversation continued from there. By the end, the two Admirals had decided that while Bear still needed to pass a psychological exam by a Navy psychologist, she was essentially cleared to train again with her team.
It was like she was flying at their words. Bear knew that what they were saying was important, but she was too caught up in the excitement of being able to see and talk to her family again. It would be awhile before any legal action came down on the people who had hurt her with their plotting, but they hadn’t won. She was sitting here, in front of her bosses, paying just enough attention to their words so she wouldn’t miss anything important, while her heart was doing backflips at the thought of just seeing her people.
“Congratulations Commander. You will be reinstated shortly.” The amused voice of Admiral Harris cut through her thoughts. “Go and rendezvous with your team, Bear. They have been clamoring at the gates trying to see you. I believe Petty Officer Hamilton sounded the alarm that you were back.”
Bear smiled. “That doesn’t surprise me in the slightest, Sir. He was all smiles when I arrived earlier.”
“He is the type to do so, Commander.” Cyclone was watching her carefully, amused by the humor in her voice. It was clear to him that Bear was ready to burst out of the room, so he dismissed her, nodding at her salute and watched Bear slip out the door. “Is she always like this, Harris?”
“Eager to get back to work? Yes. The type to tune us out? No, that’s likely from her not being able to help her team for the last five months.”
===
Bear raced out of the building, descending the stairs so fast she nearly fell down them. She closed the distance quickly, slowing to a walk as she quietly approached the empty training warehouse. Her heart was pounding, both from the exertion and because after five long months, she was oh so close to finally being near the people that had always had her back.
Her team was okay, definitely worried about her, but from the updates Fireball had been giving her over the last few weeks, Bear knew that they were alright. Bug was doing her best to keep their spirits up, and Bear couldn’t be more proud of Priya. She knew that her second would step up when needed and Priya did exactly that.
They had come together in her absence. Growing stronger as a team, they were all so excited that their boss, their friend, and to some, a maternal figure (not that they would ever say that to her face), was coming back to them.
And she was right outside the doors, listening intently to the cacophony of voices yelling over one another. Bear heard Bug shout over the noise, silencing most of the group, except for a few who kept chattering away excitedly. “Now! To the two newbies that joined us a few months ago, you only know me as your CO. You haven’t met Bear yet.” Bug stopped halfway through her sentence to swing her gaze over and stare down the new Seals. “And if you two would stop your yammering, maybe we can finish this up so you can meet her.”
“Sorry ma’am.”
“Yes ma’am.”
They both looked thoroughly chastised and Bug smiled. Her job had gotten a little easier as time had gone on. She still wished that Bear were here to help guide her, but Priya knew that this was the same way her commander had learned the job. Training wheels didn’t exist in the Navy and Bug was proud of just how much she had been able to do despite her hesitation.
“Good. Now,” she continued. Her smile had only grown wider as she felt the excitement of her colleagues grow with every passing moment. Everyone wanted to see Bear again, and thanks to Petty Officer Hamilton, the whole base knew that the Commander was back. “Bear is still in her meeting with the Air Boss and Admiral Harris, so did we have any questions about our training this week?”
A few hands were raised and Bug answered the questions as best she could. She was distracted and it had felt like time was crawling as she breezed through the last few questions, clarifying a few points and restating another four, much to her dismay. Bug had just asked if there were any remaining questions when a familiar voice echoed through the quiet room. “I have a question. What does a woman have to do to get a hug around here?”
“Bear!” The room erupted in chaos, Seals scrambling out of their seats to hug their Commander, pushing and shoving others out of the way to be the first to greet her. A cacophony of voices made Bug cringe at the volume and she caught the gazes of the other Lieutenants who had held back, letting their platoons hug their boss.
“Alright. Alright!” Bear yelled over the noise, her hands out in front of her. “I’m not running out on you guys. I will get to everyone, I promise.” The room immediately settled down, people shuffling out of Bear’s path as she walked up to the front of the room.
Bear had begun tearing up when the room exploded into shouts of joy. Her team was okay and the sheer weight of the emotions she had felt all week dissipated in a heartbeat. Each hug, handshake, and story shared seemed to lighten her heart in such a way that it felt like it was seconds from floating up, up, up into the sky to fly alongside the F-18s on base.
Each step towards Bug felt like miles. Bear had heard the endless praise of Priya since the moment she'd arrived back on base and it was comforting to know that she had chosen well. “Priya.”
“Bear.” And Bug was in her arms, holding her tight. “I missed you.”
“I missed you too, Bug.” She held the other woman for a moment longer, before letting go to wipe her tears. “You’ve done an incredible job with them. I couldn’t be more proud.”
A tearful thank you left Bug as she swiped at her tears, letting Bear turn to envelop F.A.K. into a tight squeeze. The medic mumbled something to their Commander, making her laugh despite her tears.
The rest of that morning and early afternoon was spent catching up, Bear found herself holding court as she answered question after question from her team, refusing to leave anything out. Her team weren’t children, they had all suffered from her disappearance and Bear felt that they deserved to know at least a fraction of what had plagued her over the long five months apart.
“… I did go home to Vermont,” Bear said, laughing when someone yelled out that a person couldn’t be from Vermont. “I’m serious. My moms live there, in a small town in the middle of butt-fuck nowhere.”
A few more adamant shouts had the room dissolving into giggles and for what felt like the millionth time that day, Bear felt a lightness that she hadn’t felt in a while. Not since the early days in Riyadh with Jake.
Jake. Where was he? Come to think of it, where were the Daggers? Bear hadn’t heard a word from any of them except Rooster one time when he stopped by to lend her a book. She had yet to give it back to him, and she would be lying if she said that was the only reason she wanted to see the pilots who had become a third family to her.
Sensing Bear’s distraction, Bug jumped in to dissuade the next few questions, sending the Seals off to lunch, while keeping a close eye on the suddenly pensive Bear. “Are you okay?”
Bear nodded. “I’m fine. Honestly. Just missing people.” She was trying for nonchalance, but from the look Priya gave her, it was clear that she had failed miserably.
“The Daggers have been away since Monday for a four day intensive at Lemoore,” Bug began, a knowing smile growing wider as the seconds passed. “I hear that they should be back sometime today or tomorrow.”
Bear hummed her acknowledgment and continued staring out through the open doors at the planes taking off in the distance. “It’s strange being back,” she said after a while.
“Good strange or bad strange?”
“Is it bad if I don’t know yet?”
Bug shook her head. “I don’t think so. I would probably feel the same in your shoes.”
“And I hope that you never have to be.” Bear’s tone was dark. A firm edge that forbade Bug from ever following her path to the woman she had become. “As long as I am in charge, you will never have to make the same choices I did in that desert.”
“You can’t promise that.” Bug’s tone was soft, almost like she was trying to talk Bear down.
Bear turned, meeting Priya’s gaze. “What I had to do…” she trailed off, shaking her head at the thought. “I will do whatever I can to make sure that none of you ever face the demons I did. I can promise that much.”
“Bear, what happened wasn’t your fault. None of us have ever blamed you.” There was now urgency in Bug’s voice, pleading with Bear to believe her. “Not a single one.”
“I know you don’t. Only one person deserves the blame.” The words felt foreign in her mouth, like they didn’t belong to her. And for the longest time, they hadn’t. Dr. Carter had spent months ensuring that Bear knew that she had nothing to be blamed for. These words belonged to Dr. Carter, not Bear. “But that doesn’t change the fact that I knew I could survive what I was dealt. That I did what I did so that none of you endured what I did.”
Bug was silent. Bear wouldn’t be swayed from this belief that her sacrifice was a good thing. To Bug, however, it wasn’t. The choice had been made, but Bug was still worried that Bear would make the same decision if the opportunity presented itself. So she hummed, gathering her thoughts. “We did get new equipment earlier this week, wanna see?”
Bear seemed to snap out of her melancholy, standing up. “New equipment? Hell yeah.”
“Come on then. We get to test it out for the first time later today.”
===
Hours later, Bear arrived home. Her body hurt, unused to the rigors of training after being away for so long. It had been a sobering realization, but she had known that she wouldn’t be at 100% from the start. She had to take it slow. Well, slower than previously thought.
But holy shit had it felt good to line up her shots, to watch bullets punch through paper targets, to help T-Pot and Zero find the sweet spot to take their shots. She felt useful again.
So now, sitting on her couch in her pajamas with a bowl of mac and cheese on her lap as she scrolled mindlessly through her phone, Bear was content. Today had been good, save for her one moment with Bug. But when she wrote about her day in the journal she had been given, for once it didn’t feel like she was condemning her actions.
Today was progress.
She was startled from her couch potato state by a knock at the door. Glancing at the time in the corner of her phone, Bear frowned. Who the hell could that be? It was late and while she had the weekend off, it didn’t make sense to have visitors.
Groaning, Bear unwrapped herself from her blanket and stood, her knees and ankles popping as she moved. She made her way over, her socked feet sliding over the wooden floor of her home, and opened the door to see Jake standing on her porch.
It was like all of the air had been punched out of her body as she gazed upon him. Even in the darkness outside, his figure illuminated by the single porch light, setting fire to gold in his blonde hair, resembling a crown, he was beautiful. He always had been beautiful, but now, after five long months, here he was in front of her and Bear was left speechless.
Back where they had first begun. When her feelings had become feelings. Jake on her porch, and Bear standing before him, one hand on the open door. Only this time, there was no pizza.
They stared at one another for a moment, before Bear managed a strangled “Jake.”
“Teddy.”

Mandatory Sabezra hype post because some of us are struggling after the premiere
Spoilers for Ahsoka below the cut
So, I know a lot of us are a bit down after the 'like a sister' line but do not get it in your mind that this is it and the ship has sunk.
Consider this, you are Ezra, you are about to do something very scary and you know you may never see your family again. You want to leave a separate message for the girl you have been in love with since you were 14 to let her know how much she means to you, but you also know that she has said several times how she does not reciprocate. If you tell her how you feel, in what might be the last thing you ever get to say to her, it would make it awkward for her if she never feels the same, so you panic and settle for the next best thing.
Also, his body language was soo awkward during that part specifically, like he didn't really believe what he was saying, and Sabine scoffed like she didn't believe it either.
There is also A LOT of subtext implying that she cares a lot deeper for him than just as a brother. I mean is dripping off of both episodes. Even if she is still in denial, her actions point to her almost definitely having deeper feelings. Ten years is a lot of time for feelings to changed/ be realized.
I am more worried about what their reunion will be like than a hologram that is a decade old.
All of this to say, DO NOT LOSE HOPE. We are still sailing a ship.

Why is nobody talking about how Desmond had a SAGE ancestor??!!
I’m now picturing a scenario where Des is having an awkward family reunion with John/Black Bart/Germain and let’s say that Aita is aware that Desmond is his descendant… so, for once, Aita is doing his utmost to be a good great grandad and spending the day with him doesn’t turn out so bad at all as Desmond thought it would.
The fandom should talk more about Aita in general honestly!
Wait. What did I miss?
Desmond is Aita’s descendant?
Then that means…
He’s Juno’s descendant!
Okay, in all seriousness, I don’t remember anything that states that Aita (and Juno) was Desmond’s ancestor nor is there any confirmation that Sages needed to be descendants of the Isu ‘possessing’ them.
Although, if Aita was truly Desmond’s ancestor, this would make Juno’s treatment of Desmond more… twisted.
Either he’s also Juno’s descendant and she has no qualm killing her own blood to get what she wants or she truly believe that she was rewarding Desmond by putting his ‘spirit’ in the Gray after he died.
Or…
He’s a descendant of Aita but not of Juno and her treatment of Desmond is tainted with the idea that she has no qualms sacrificing Desmond because he has the blood of the woman who seduced her husband in his veins.
But honestly?
I think Juno and Aita are loyal to one another and it shows with how far Juno was willing to go just to save Aita (using the Mead and getting punished by it) and how both John the IT guy and Bartholomew were both talking about Juno like she was the love of their life.
Anyway, this isn’t about Juno!
Let’s focus on the awkward family reunion with the idea that Aita’s Sages are all his descendant which includes Desmond because Elijah’s ‘Sage genes’ come from his father’s side!
Unorganized Notes:
Desmond would have no idea why he was in this weird time-space anomaly with these dudes. He doesn’t even recognize any of them! One of them was definitely a Templar too!
And there’s even a kid here???
Then Aita comes in and tells them that they were brought here because of their blood and there was some sort of attack that was aimed to lock Aita up. Instead, it locked him and a few of his descendants up instead.
And that’s how Desmond learned that his Isu ancestor is Juno’s husband. Well… fuck.
So Desmond would be stuck with Elijah, John, Germain, Bartholomew and we’ll also include Molay in the mix.
Desmond would totally not feel safe among any of them and his paranoia only grows after John says that he doesn’t know about the kid (Elijah) but he was sure Desmond wasn’t a Sage so he shouldn’t even be here in the first place. This gets Desmond a crash course of what a Sage is and he’s sus of everybody because the really short summary they gave made it seem like they’re being possessed by Aita so this looks like he’s in a room with lots of Aitas!
Aita doesn’t help his case because he says that Desmond is ‘special’ which is always a fucking red flag.
So they’re stuck in that room where the food never grows cold nor the fruits ever rot and the glasses always refill themselves and… mandatory bodily functions like sleeping and eating doesn’t seem to matter. Desmond’s pretty sure that they’re all ‘data’ at this point, avatars created from the memories of the real deals.
… at least, that’s what he came up with because this feels really similar to the Animus Island but felt more… ‘real’.
Desmond actually tries to talk to Elijah first because John says he’s not sure who he is so maybe he’s not a Sage as well. Elijah doesn’t tell him about their familial relationship but tells him that he is a Sage. And Elijah also tells him that not all Sages gets ‘eaten’ by Aita’s memories.
Desmond learns from Elijah that Germain and Molay are both like him. They have Aita’s memories but they control them but reports about Germain states that he’s not a good person in general. John and Bartholomew are completely enslaved to Aita’s memories though.
With that information, Desmond believes he and Elijah should be allies because it was clear that Elijah was trying to help him. Elijah doesn’t deny it but instead says that he’ll work with Desmond as long as he likes what Desmond plans to do.
They form a sorta distant alliance with Molay because Desmond knows he’s a Templar so he’s still super sus of him. Molay realizes that Desmond is an Assassin as well because he ‘moves like one’.
Anyway, throughout this entire time, Aita is trying to get into Desmond’s good graces, giving him gifts that appears out of nowhere or talking to him in general.
Desmond has no idea why Aita is doing any of this.
Elijah suggests that maybe Desmond is the Sage of Aita and Juno’s child instead and that’s why he’s there. “If you think about it, since we’re all his descendants, that would mean he had at least one child. Someone like Aita and Juno would have loved their child so deeply that it becomes twisted and they’d definitely try to save that child even if it meant using the same thing that killed off Ait-”
Elijah stops because he sees the horror in Desmond’s face and says instead, “I’m joking.”
Desmond sighed in relief and, seeing Molay about to speak, Elijah shoots him a very dark look that promises not death but endless torture just a shy away from death. Molay closes his mouth and keeps quiet.
John is the only one who is truly suspicious of who Elijah is. He has no idea who he is but… he looks too similar to Desmond… and… to Aita’s son who they were all descended from.
Elijah is keeping his connection to Desmond vague and, just to fuck with them, he makes vague comments about being from ‘far away’ and Desmond thinks he’s actually far into the future and Elijah’s just ‘yeah, I’ll go with that’ and uses the current state of the world he was living to make up a possible future that’s… weirdly… sounds like the plot of watch_dog LEGION.
Aita knows what Elijah is doing and he tries to tell him to stop it and tell Desmond the truth, reminding him that this might be the only time he could be with his father. Elijah tells him to shut up and that he has no leg to stand on since he’s just a parasite waiting to eat their mind to ‘live’ and to stop thinking of Desmond as a replacement for his son.
Desmond is having conflicted emotions since Aita is being nice to him but he also knows he’s Juno’s husband so he’s definitely not exactly a good person.
Germain is just there, unsure what to do because (1) Molay doesn’t want to talk to him after Elijah told him what Germain did to the Order and (2) Aita is pretty much ignoring him as well.
Bartholomew is just buddying up with John but he does know that Desmond is Edward Kenway’s descendant. He could feel it so he treats Desmond cordially.
The one that was trying to lock Aita so they can ‘capture’ him is Aletheia and Basim because they think he has an idea where their children are. Juno is actually trying to save him (and his Sages + Desmond… sorta).

A The Count of Monte Cristo AU with Eda in the role of Edmond Dantes and Raine in the role of Mercedes. The setting is mainly the Demon Realm, so most characters are Witches and Demons, but there is contact with the Human Realm by way of trading. The Covens exist, thought there is no mandatory joining and branding with Coven Seals - at least it’s not widely done.
Eda Cawthorne is accused of treason and sent to a horrible prison on the same night she was going to propose to her partner, Raine Whispers. The people who framed Eda are Odalia Bright, Terra Snapdragon, and Phillip Witterbane.
Philip wanted to discredit the respected Cawthorne Family, so he could get enough power and influence to become the ruler of the Boiling Isles, and one of them being accused of treason would ruin their reputation; Terra wanted control over Raine and felt that it would be easier without Eda’s influence on them, and because she wanted the two to suffer by separating them; Eda and Odalia were once friends but Odalia was secretly jealous and resentful of her power and skills, so she joined forces with Phillip and Terra to frame Eda.
Eda spends almost 12 years in the prison (losing an arm), until she learns about a great treasure and escapes. Not sure who could be in the role of Abbé Faria, but they help Eda escape at the cost of their life.
On her way to the island where the treasure is (Titan’s Hold), Eda meet Luz Noceda, an orphan human whom Eda takes in as her apprentice. Arriving at the island, they find baby King, along with the treasure.
Once they have the treasure, Eda and company return the the Boiling Isles. Eda reunites with her Lilith Clawthorne, her sister, and discovers that her parents are dead and that people think Eda died in prison. She also learns that Raine cut contact with Lilith/seemingly forgot about Eda to become Head of the Bard Coven.
(Terra is Head of the Plant Coven and seemingly a confidant to Raine, Odalia has achieved prestige due to Blight Industries (it’s thanks to her husband) while Phillip is well on his way to become Emperor, and fulfill his secret agenda).
Betrayed, Eda swears to destroy everyone who had a hand in sending her to jail. She spends the next 8 years plotting her revenge with the help of Lilith, Luz, King, even recruiting some other young witches who have been hurt by the elite (Gus, Willow, the Detention Track Kids).
20 years after her arrest, Eda infiltrates high-society as Marilyn, the Countess of Titan’s Hold. As she works to full-fill her revenge plans, Eda is reunited with Raine who doesn’t recognize her. Eda is surprised that Raine doesn't seem happy with their Coven Head position and that they still fondly remember Eda, even playing their song from time to time. Eda tries focusing on her anger at Raine, but she still has feelings for them.
Meanwhile, Luz (presented as Countess Marilyn’s daughter) becomes close with Amity Blight, Odalia’s youngest child. At first, it was to get some dirt on Odalia, but then Luz fell in love with Amity and helped her break free of Odalia’s control. Amity eventually discovers the truth about Luz, and decides to help her clear Eda’s name by finding evidence of her mother’s dirty dealings.
Eda discovers that the reason why Raine became a Coven Head was to the find proof of Phillip’s, Terra’s, and Odalia’s corruption to clear Eda’s name. Raine still loves Eda, and her apparent death nearly broke them, but they used it to fuel their determination to bring the corrupted elites down. Witnessing Raine’s devotion to her, Eda reveals her identity to them. Cue tearful reunion!
The rest is kind of predictable: they find evidence of corruption and destroy Phillip, Terra, and Odalia in satisfying ways. It might involves intense battle sequences cause these bastards won’t go down without a fight.
Eda and Raine finally marry, Lumity becomes official, everyone lives happily ever after. The end.
I’m changing the characters ages a bit to fit in with the story.
Eda is 24 when she’s imprisoned, around 36 when she escapes, and 44 during the main events. Raine is the same age as Eda. Luz, Amity, and the kids are all aged up to around 20-22 years. King is his canon age of about 8 years old.
People don’t recognize Countess Marilyn as Eda because of her now silver hair (she has orange hair the last time most people saw her), and because she hides her distinctive golden eyes behind sunglasses.
Eda still has her curse, but she made peace with the Owl Beast sometime after she escaped. Lilith still cursed Eda, but it was an accident instead of purposely.
I've never read The Count of Monte Cristo but I'll share this anyways

MiracOlympus HC’s
Here’s some HC’s for the Godly kids of MiracOlympus! Enjoy! @artzychic27 @imsparky2002
Kim, Nathaniel and Adrien set aside an hour every week to go down to Tartarus and just troll the heck out of their dad.
As the goddess of marriage and family, Marinette often attends mortal weddings. If the ceremony brings her to tears, it’s said the marriage will be a lasting and loving one.
Lila has an enchanted golden apple that she uses to cause trouble amongst mortals and immortals alike. It’s so beautiful that most can’t help wanting it.
The festival that gets held every year to celebrate Rose is basically Ancient Greek Pride. People of all romantic, sexual and gender identities are welcome and celebrate together. Rose herself makes an appearance every year in her powered-down goddess form.
Let’s get one thing straight. Nathaniel did NOT kidnap Marc. He went to the Underworld entirely of his own free will, and the only reason Mylene freaked out was because Lila intercepted the letter Marc sent his sister about his whereabouts. Got it? Good.
The muses put on a weekly performance for the other gods and attendance is pretty much mandatory. They put so much work into it.
Nathaniel, Anthony and Staci are called the ‘Gloom Squad’ due to residing in the Underworld. They have entire conversations just comprising of them saying morbid and ominous shit.
Luka and Juleka have a special mental link that allows them to find one another at any time when they recite a certain incantation.
Whenever a new deity is born, they are presented before the Fates (Bustier, Mendeliev, and Winters), who announce them and determine what domain they will rule over.
Some of the godly kids were born in WEIRD ways. For example, Rose came out of the sea in a shell, and Max burst out of his mom’s head!
Nino was kidnapped by mortal pirates once, and escaped through the power of sheer prank genius.
Many of the god-kids have animal companions that are very dear to them. To name a few, Adrien has his eagle, Liiri, and Marinette has her peacock, Duusu. Juleka has the deer that pull her chariot, and Max has Markov, his faithful owl. Marc and Nath have Baark, the three-headed guard dog of the Underworld.
As benevolent as they generally are, it’s still a BAD idea for mortals to insult the gods. They are still the rulers of the world and you’ll treat them with respect if you know what’s good for you. Some mortals have learned that the hard way, like the woman Max turned into a spider for insulting his engineering skills, or the queen whose children were turned into woodland animals by Juleka and Luka because she had dared say she was a better mother than Anarka because she had more kids.
Ivan often feels a bit insecure about not being as conventionally attractive as the other deities, with his hulking size, bad eye (forge accident, he wears a patch), crippled knee (he uses a brace), and surly features, but Mylene and the others are quick to reassure him that he’s beautiful inside and out, just like everything he makes is.
For the life of him, Kim cannot stop misplacing his trident. Seriously, someone put a tracker on that thing.
Marinette, Ondine and Marc have regular meet-ups for tea where they just exchange gossip and be fabulous immortal queens.
Juleka’s arrows are enchanted so they cause no pain to the animals she shoots with them, and she never kills any more than she needs to. She cares immensely for creatures of the forest.
Eclipses happen when Chloe and Zoe have a particularly intense argument.
Brecken can understand the languages of all animals, and regularly mediates disagreements between the other gods and their pets.
Lucien and Emani are no longer welcome on Olympus. I’ll let you guess the reasons for that.
All of the gods regularly have meetups on Olympus for lunch. It’s like a big crazy family reunion.
Eri scares the crap out of everyone but they generally know she means no harm. The only ones who aren’t scared of her are the Gloom Squad and Juleka.
Alix gets like half an hour of sleep because she’s always trying to get things done and the other gods are always on her ass about this.
Ismael is an absolute menace on April 1st. No one is safe from his reign of terror. No one.
He also bleats when he's upset.
Leave your thoughts in the comments and belongs!

Honest to godly favorite my way to use Philza as a character is to have him being warm and tender and full of fatherly concern as he tries to give mental health advice….while he’s pulling the most heinous, unhinged behavior imaginable. I just go feral for yandere found family what can I say.

City of Lights by Ellen Faye
About Ellen Faye: Ellen has been a dreamer and designer of worlds all her life. She has been involved in many fandom environments over the years but most recently jumped with two feet into Supernatural, and never surfaced. She has shared many stories online (as Ellenofoz), but she’s grateful to be able to take the leap into published works with the Aether Beyond the Binary anthology.
Ellen lives in Brisbane, Australia, and spends her days writing code. By night, she reads and writes stories, watches shows, and plays games involving magic, science, historical adventures or romance—sometimes all at the same time. She co-hosts a podcast about Supernatural fanfiction, but can also be found enjoying Star Wars, Marvel, Doctor Who and other assorted fandoms.

Title: City of Lights
Tags: bullying (past), childhood friends, london, modern with magic, non-binary, present tense, reunion, student (college), third person limited pov, united kingdom
Excerpt:
A loud cheer rises from the crowd, and the first float comes into view: a dramatic arch and spiral of lanterns, rainbow-hued and bright with the glow of aether. Music blasts from speakers on board the float as it skims the ground, a thumping beat that Rowan can feel in their chest as it approaches. The people dancing on board the float are dressed in a similar aether-kissed fabric to the crowd’s flags, shimmering with shifting colours as they move, smiling and waving to the crowd.
Rowan can remember staring up at the beautiful dancers last time, wishing they could dress up like a magical being and join the parade. They chuckle and shake their head. They’d become a magical being, all right, of a kind. Their mandatory Academy training had seen to that.
Before the float draws level with where Isaac and Rowan sit, something catches their eye across the street. A building, a balcony two stories up. A child, reaching a small hand out as their parent is distracted beside them.
The child overbalances.

Finding Resonance by Bettina Juszak
About Bettina Juszak: Originally from Germany, Bettina has (so far) spent time in the US, the UK, and Canada. She is particularly interested in exploring questions of music and language in imaginary worlds, aided by degrees in linguistics and literature. When not writing, she loses herself in hobbies such as archery, cross-stitch, attempting to learn yet another language, and complaining about the amount of space her book and notebook collection takes up. Her first published work appeared in the Upon a Twice Time anthology published by Air and Nothingness Press, and she is working on a second original novel – despite the first one not having seen the light of day yet.
This is Bettina’s debut publication with Duck Prints Press.
Title: Finding Resonance
Tags: asexual, fluff, found family, london, musician, non-binary, past tense, third person limited pov, united kingdom
Excerpt:
The screeching of tortured pipes made Ros flinch.
“Sorry!” Minnie shouted from the organ loft, kept usable through the sheer stubbornness of a stone wall. This church might still nominally be standing, unlike most of its compatriots, but it wasn’t exactly in good repair.
Ros rubbed at their blurry eyes, wishing for coffee. “You promised last time you wouldn’t wake me this early for one of your ideas again.”
They knew they sounded grumpy, but they were halfway across the city from their apartment in Islington, and they already dreaded the return journey on the Northern line, their least-favourite Tube line. After over ten years of getting dragged into Minnie’s projects, starting from when they met at the Royal Conservatory, Ros was mostly resigned to it, but that didn’t mean they couldn’t complain.
Throughout the Aether Beyond the Binary campaign, we’ll be highlighting the 17 contributors, so keep an eye on our social media for more bios, interviews, and excerpts – or become a backer now and get notified with each update!

✧・゚: *✧・゚:* 🦇 Lilia Birthday SSR flower analysis* 🦇*:・゚✧*:・゚✧
*Mandatory reminder that I’m no flower specialist, which means these are all very subjective opinions. Take everything with a grain of salt!
Lilia has spider chrysanthemums. They’re popular wedding flowers since they represent liveliness (in white also truth and purity.) However, chrysanthemums in all variations are funeral flowers and symbolize peace and death and are used to express sympathy. In China however they can stand for peace, health, and old age. Since their other name is ‘spider mom’ they’re also a symbol of a long and happy life! In Greek mythology they’re protectors against evil spirits (and thus once again flowers commonly found at graveyards) which bring bad luck and nightmares to those who pluck them. (I know some ppl wanted it to be the spider lily or as it is sometimes called ‘japanese death flower’ since it’s often depicted in anime but if you google spider lily I feel like it doesn’t quite look right for what Lilia has in his bouquet. Spider chrysanthemums, at least in my opinion, are a better match.)
One of the pink type of flowers in his bouquet are begonias. They’re a universal symbol of love, affection, desire, gladness, and pleasure, as well as gratitude, peace and harmony. They can also represent misfortune or impending bad luck. Since they’re regarded as one of the most beautiful flowers they usually carry positive meanings though and are commonly gifted on birthdays, for Mother’s Day, or as a thank you.
The other pink flowers are peonies, which symbolize prosperity, good fortune, happiness, honor, and compassion. In China they’re regarded as the ‘king of the flowers’, being a symbol of friendship and beauty. In Japan they’re associated with honor, masculinity, and wealth.
The white ones look like baby’s breath, which represent love, appreciation, and admiration, as well as innocence, purity, and everlasting love. It’s a popular flower for wedding bouquets, but also as a gift for baby showers and generally a flower you’d give to new parents. On the other hand, they could be yarrows, which are a symbol of braveness, courageousness, and steadfastness of love. It's also known as ‘soldier’s wound wart’ and ‘knight’s milfoil’ since wearing the blossoms supposedly brings safety and bravery.
One of the green flowers (the slightly paler, long stretched one) is a gladiolus. Gladioli represent strength of character, faithfulness, moral integrity and remembrance, as well as a spirit that doesn’t give up.
The other green flower are hellebore. They symbolize peace, serenity and tranquility, as well as anxiety, stress and scandal. Green hellebore, more specifically, stand for youthfulness, rebirth, renewal, heath, prosperity, good fortune, and wealth. If you encounter a hellebore in your dreams, they’re a symbol of danger. Or they’re euphorbia (Albanian spurge) which represent purity, protection, and wisdom, and generally are a symbol of cheerfulness, family reunion, happiness and good luck, which is why they’re popular during Christmas time.
Naturally, these are only my un-educated guesses, but feel free to let me know if I got anything wrong/what flowers I might’ve missed.

plot--my muse really shouldn’t be in your muse’s room. maybe a family reunion or a friend’s get-together thing. bonus points if he’s doing this while they were previously asleep open to all genders muse--brick, but open to using other muses note--t*boo preferred, secret, forbidden, age gap preferred but not mandatory
downright devious and he knew it. he couldn’t help himself. that was the story he would go with if his wife caught him. not that it would hold up, but he didn’t care. thick, veiny cock twitched as he slid another inch into them, large hand clamped over their mouth to keep them quiet. but regardless, no one would hear either of them over the sound of the thunderstorm that would persist throughout the night. “you’re tight,” he groaned through clenched teeth. his chest was pressed against their back so tightly that he was certain they could feel his quick pulse.

I have more DMBJ followers than the last time I asked this, so I'll try again:
I've only seen the shows, and no show has filled in this bit (maybe a movie did, but I haven't seen those)::
All the shows preceeding Tomb of the Sea // Sand Sea story-wise (so like, even ones filmed later on) show Huo Xiuxiu having a very good relationship with her grandmother and a prominent position in the family.
So why, by Tomb of the Sea // Sand Sea, is she the outcast of the Jiumen families? What happened?
And is she dead by the time Reunion runs around, or just not involved?
Mandatory GIF to make people stop and read:

A will reading is quite the difficult task. Would it be from a normal family, or one as dysfunctionnal and shattered as the van Heel were.
They were back there a month after Adelheid's tragic death by morphine-induced euthanasia. A family reunion most unexpected, gathering not only the children of the first dutch fortune, but also her brother, unable to hide his vindictive smile, his ex-wife, recently divorced after a serial cheating scandal, and all of the little cousins : some here willingly, some forced, and Annelies, who even if she wasn't the five year-old child they knew before the van Heel trial anymore, didn't understand at all what was at stake.
All she knew was that her cousins she hasn't seen in person for so long were back, and that they brought her presents for her birthday. It didn't matter that said birthday was a month ago, the happiness was still there.
Her delighted screams were the only light of that somber day.
"Emerens! Elvira! Mareva! I missed you so much!"
A tired smile formed on her cousin's lips. Annelies wasn't the only one who missed her cousins, and her smile full of joy was enough for Emerens to hope this day woudn't be too tiring.
"Hi, Annie. Nice to see you too, lil' fairy. Still into dinosaurs ?"
"You bet ! Are those presents for me ?"
"Well, I doubt Leonard would enjoy pterodactly-shaped presents..."
Said Leonard rolled his eyes, but kept his mouth shut. After all, it was about the happiness of his little sister, the only one in the family that didn't hate him the slightest. And he knew better than to cross Emerens when he had that tired expression.
All of them knew better.
Annelies unpacking her gifts, Emerens sighed before shaking hands with the rest of the family. Even Leonard, which was surprising, or his aunt, looking at him with a sort-of regretful look. The only one ignored, be it by Emerens or his sisters, was their uncle.
Even at almost sixty, he still knew how to scoff disapprovingly.
"Where are your manners, boy?"
"I would ask you the same thing," hissed Mareva with a rictus. "You didn't even look in our general direction."
Their uncle completely ignored the youngest van Heel sister. He was fixiated on Emerens, his eyes gleaming with victory. After all, he thought, that will reading only means one thing for him : That fortune Adelheid ripped away from him years ago was finally back into his hands. Years late, but who cared ? He was a very patient man. And his nieces and nephew were deemed unworthy.
Emerens knew that. As much as he knew his uncle didn't care about his stance on the matter as much as he himself didn't care about that will.
As such, why would he care about a sad, sad man pursuing money he didn't want ? Being here was enough of a force of will. Knowing their family, there would be a mandatory trip to the retirement house their grandparents were, after the visit of the tomb where rested a woman presenting him as a poisoned gift her very last moments.
Both the family and the money they harbored were a poison.
"Please try to be civil, uncle. The whole family is here."
"With most difficulties to reunite, may I remind you, boy," sneered the man, savoring his victory. "What were you doing in Japan, exaclty, that warranted a month between poor Addie's death and the will reading ? Still indulging in that childish lifestyle of yours?"
Mareva crossed her arms in disapproval.
"Just say you wanted to see the money in your account immediatly and get it over with, uncle. None of us care about your antics nor your opinion."
The sharp tone of the youngest sister, added with her signature icy stare, promplty put and end to the venom-spitting. That, added with the realisation the inheritance cost him the approval of the rest of his family, was enough to bring back the silence in the attorney's waiting room. A silence only broken by the sound of Annelies playing with her new toys, and the occasionnal sound coming from Justen's phone.
Finally, the door opened, revealing master Berkenbosch in the flesh, holding a sealed enveloppe. He went to shake hands with all of the family, including Annelies pushed by her mother to say hello to the attorney. The courtesy were quickly cut short by a very in a rush uncle, hurrying in the office to sit on one chair.
"Money-hungry fucker," grumbled Carlijn, talking for the first time since the beginning of the family reunion. "At least act a little bit sad, your fucking sister just died."
"That would be hypocritical," said Emerens, a little wicked smile forming on his lips. "Do I look sad to you?"
"Fair point."
She followed her father in the office, before Leonard who sighed and took Justen and Annelies by the hand. Their mother soon followed, leaving only the siblings and Willelmien in the waiting room.
Willy shrugged, looking at Emerens.
"I still don't get why we all had to be here."
"Adelheid's wishes," said Elvira. "Frankly I don't get it either. Both Emerens and I are exonered of that by law. But we still had to be here... I have a bad feeling about this."
"Yeah, me too," added Mareva, the worry weighing on her face. "She woudn't make that much drama to just give it all to her brother."
Emerens closed his eyes.
"Let's not talk about bad outcomes, you're gonna jinx it. Let's just get this over with."
The three women nodded, and followed Emerens in the office, taking the last available chairs. Master Berkenbosch waited for them to settle before showing to all the enveloppe, thick enough to hold the whole van Heel empire.
"Apologises for the delay. You see, mister and mrs van Heel's deaths were so close that we had to first handle the matter of mr van Heel's will. Since he left all of his possessions to mrs van Heel, we had to treat them as part of her last wishes."
His face went a bit sour.
"It was most difficult considering her will was sealed. But we managed to reach a legal outcome satisfying enough. Some things probably will still need to be worked out after the reading, though."
"Sealed ?!" Exclamed Leonard, his face dripping absolute stupefaction. "Why would it be sealed ? She wasn't stupid to the point where she, sick and bedridden, would believe herself sharp enough to handle alone the succession of a whole financial empire !"
"Yes, sealed," sighed the attorney. "She got legal councelling of course, more considering she was unable to write, but my colleague has swore secrecy. This made things complicated."
"I told you not to jinx it," grumbled Emerens in a low voice. Willy laughed a little bit. Not for long, though. The implications of Adelheid's will being sealed were too heavy, and all the van Heels were starting to realise that.
Why would it be sealed if not to make it a surprise for everyone involved, secret until it would be impossible to change for any of the involved parties ?
Doubt was creeping on the so-proud uncle's face. Said doubt that gripped Emerens's heart with the strenght of a falcon's claw. All this time he would slither out of evey family related matter. His emancipation, the trial, Adelheid's last moments, all this done to cut ties with a heavy-blooded past.
But falcons always were snakes' predators.
The attorney unsealed the enveloppe, pulling out pages and pages of the will. All would be handled well, he trusted, according to the law : Adelheid van Heel wasn't woman who didn't think of all outcomes. He was well-prepared for whatever he would say to the only living and able members of the family, all gathered in front of him.
Despite all this, however, his face turned into a frown when he read the first words.
"I, Adelheid Elizabeth Leonora van Heel, hereby leave all my possessions..."
The uncle winced in surprise. All of it ? Even he didn't hope to have that much. He expected at least part of the money to go to his children, espacially considering the help Leonard and Justen were in managing the empire during her sickness. Maybe some of it to Mareva, considering Adelheid was hellbent on keeping him out of her business. but not all of it to one person.
He was starting to believe this person wasn't him.
No matther, he thought. The heir would probably be Leonard. Justen was too young to handle the whole weight of the empire. And he still had enough grip on his son to at the very least get enough money for a comfortable retirement with all he ever wanted, on his foolish younger sister's money.
In the entirety of humankind, a man had never been more wrong.
"My actions, my entreprises, my housing and all my personal fortune..."
Stress was rising in the office for very different reasons.
But the attorney carried on. Merciless.
"... To my son, Emerens Michael Andreas van Heel, effective the moment the present will is read."
There was more words to be said.
But none of them could hear them.
Only the buzzing of Adelheid very last trick was ringing in their ears.
Nine heads turned towards Emerens. Nine looks varying from worry to extreme disgust, going through absolute surprise.
Nothing close of the horror displayed on his face.
"What ?!?!?"
***
"You piece of shit !!!"
The expression on the face of the ridiculed uncle was far, far from that never-ending calm and smooth victory he displayed earlier. Once out of the attorney's office, after hours and hours of legal talking, his very first action was to grab his nephew by the collar, pushing him against the wall.
Green eyes looked in green eyes with the exact same disgust.
"How the fuck are YOU the one favored ?! You're not even a part of this family anymore because of your fucking childish behavior !"
"Father, shouted Leonard, let him go right now-"
But there was no one to listen to that very well-meaning demand. Emerens felt the hands of his uncle tighten on his neck, ready for the kill. Not that it would benefit him. Would he die right now, all his possessions would go to his daughter as of the law.
Maybe he should make a will too. After all, we never know when the self-destructing feeling would win against his willpower.
"Why are you asking me ?" He hissed, putting all the disgust that sad, angry man inspired him in his sultry voice. "Do you think I wanted this ? Do I look like the kind of man that would only come back in a family he got emancipated from only to get all the money?"
The obvious answer was no, and even the stupidest of idiots would get that. Leonard, trying with all his little jurist's strenght to pull his father away from his cousin, got that. Carlijn, looking at the confrontation with ureadable eyes, got that. Even his aunt, whose presence indicated she probably hoped to get something more from the divorce, got that.
But the uncle, lost in his rage and loss and stupefaction, didn't.
"Don't sass me, boy. You know damn well you're not entirely a stranger in this mess ! I could so easily sue you for abuse of the inheritance laws... Who's to tell you didn't kill her and fabricated the will, you little bitch ?!"
The accusation was heavy. Heavier than the sudden silence in the waiting room. Leonard stopped pulling his father's arms, Carlijn's eyes were wide in stupefaction, and even Justen and Annelies weren't saying a damn thing. Rage was burning on Elvira and Mareva's side, with Willy looking absolutely disgusted by her father, but nothing could compare to Emerens' face, trapped in the coldest of ice.
"How dare you, uncle ?! Screamed Elvira with absolute disgust. Were you there when she died to throw such words to us?!"
"Fucking apologize," hissed Mareva. "Apologize to all that damned family for that damned scene!"
But there was no reasoning to be done.
Knowing he hit a nerve, the uncle smiled. Wickedly.
"Not denying, are we ? Yes, boy, I know you were there when she died, alone in the same room! I know the executor of the euthanasia was made unclear on the contract, I know doctors weren't present for a long time! What conjecture is there to be made, Emerens ?"
Maybe he thought he won, with his threat, far less empty than we would believe it to be. Maybe he thought he would see his nephew, a boy he considered so weak, fold and renegociate the terms of the will to avoid a scandal. Maybe he thought he could manipulate the heir van Heel.
Whatever he thought didn't prepare him to the venomous expression his victim harbored.
Claws gripped the uncle's wrist, eyes widened, and slitted pupils pierced through that oh so solid resistance he believed to harbor.
Words followed that piercing gaze. Words carrying icebergs with every letter.
"What's the rush, uncle ? You look so eager to put me to court, I'd almost believe there is a hidden motive. Tell me, do I have to learn about more illegitimate cousins you have to pay pension to?"
the sudden noise coming from behind was probably the sound of Leonard choking on his own saliva, or maybe Carlijn hysterical laugh or the outraged exclamations of his aunt put in front of the evidence. None of that noise reached Emerens, though. His uncle was still holding his collar, but his wicked expression was shattering, revealing behind a world of shock and panic.
Not that he cared about that.
"Throwing accusations so hastily, a shame for the legacy you are so proud of, wouldn't you think ? And so baseless compared to the countless mothers that come to trial to try and rip from you part of the family fortune. Yes, I know all about your little scheming," he smiled, more and more icy. "You never were a man to be trusted with secrecy..."
"Why you-!"
"So yeah, take me to court for a fortune I never wanted, see what good it brings to you when the judge realize there is no proof of what you are accusing me. Prove to the world why exactly you weren't even a part of that will. Expose how much you were unfit of being the heir van Heel."
A prey. That's what was his uncle at this exact moment. Holding the snake's neck does nothing about the venom he spit in your mouth. And the grip of that detested nephew was less of fingers grabbing his wrist, and more of the trap laid by a boa's tail, ready to swallow hin whole.
There was no rebuttal to be done.
Only running away to save what was left of him.
One by one, the van Heels left the attorney's waiting room. Some of them spared a worried look to Emerens, still against the wall, still engulfed in ice. Finally, were only left him, his sisters and Willy, looking at him with a sisterly-worried gaze.
Her first words, however, werent what he expected them to be.
"Did you kill her ?"
"Of course not, he sighed. I have every reason to, but she doesn't deserve my falling in madness. She did, however, die in front of me."
"Yeah, I expected as much, said Elvira. That outcome is weird, tho."
"Agreed, added Willy. Like, after today even more, I knew that piec of crap woudn't get anything, acting like he did. But I didn't expect all of this to go to you. Why not Mareva, or even Leonard and Justen ?"
Mareva grimaced.
"I have a theory, if Emerens wants me to say it..."
"Go ahead. We'll probably agree on that, anyway."
She nodded.
"Adelheid was hellbent on creating her own lineage. The problem is that it was doomed from the start, after Emerens's emancipation and our running away. Giving her possessions back to her brother would be an acknowledgment of defeat. And I don't think she believed Leonard or Justen fit to handle everything. No matter what happened, it would be the end of the van Heel legacy as she believed it to be."
"So," completed Emerens with a tired tone, "she did exactly what she knew would piss off all of us the most. She gave everything to the most unwilling one."
Elvira gritted her teeth in disgust, eyes brimming with rage.
"That old, stupid, disgusting fucking hag-"
"I do believe she still thought of you as the most fit for the job, Emerens, added Mareva, cutting right through Elvira's insults. You did show abilities she endorsed as worthy. But for the rest, I agree with you. She couldn't have not known you would destroy everything she worked for the moment you got the option to."
A smirk found its way on Emerens's face, full of the spite he harbored since he was thirteen.
"You bet I will. Let's have a little cousin reunion so I can share all of this shit in the most anticapitalist way."
