Back in March 1988, Willem and his co-star Gregory Hines graced the cover of Jet Magazine to promote their movie, Off Limits.
Now, this is kind of a big deal to me because Jet Magazine was a very popular magazine in the black community. Growing up, my mom used to read every issue that would come out.
That being said, it blew my mind to see that he was on the cover of one of these magazines. I can't remember another white celebrity being on the cover of this prominent black publication. I mean it might have happened another time, but I'm not sure. 😅
And I was lucky enough to find a copy on eBay, so now I'm gonna share the article with you. It's mostly about Gregory, but both he and the writer give Willem his props too. It's honestly really cute to me. 😊

White Gold and Truth
Batman #416
Simple.
Bruce and Dick have an argument about Jason.
It works better that it sounds, driven as it is by the characterisations of the two men. There's a basic crime-driven b-story. It feels like filler but it's worth reading.
Jim Starlin (3 of 17).
Jim Aparo (3 of 28).

Echoes of Halabja: A poem of Tragedy and Triumph
Echoes of Halabja: A poem of Tragedy and Triumph
— A poem by Me
In fair land of Kurdistan
Where we lay our scene
There lies a city
Called Halabja serene
But on a day of woe
A tyrant's wrath did reign
And in his fury
Thousands did he slay
A city so proud
Woke up under a deadly cloud
With poison gas so vile
It silenced every other sound
The screams of the dying
The cries of despair
As they suffocated
Unable to bear
Families torn apart
With cries of fear and pain
As their loved ones fell
Like leaves in a hurricane
But we still remember
We honour the dead
The unforgotten victims
Forever in our hearts etched
But in the end
The tyrant finally fell
And they were free once more
To build their own story to tell
Now the serene city still stands
A testament to their might
A reminder of their struggle
And a reminder of their fight
For freedom, and for liberation
In fair Kurdistan, a new generation
Will live in peace, and never more
Experience the terrors of that fateful day of yore
We remember those who fell
And the ones who went
Their courage shone
Even in their descent
They fought with might
Until the very last scent
Mountains tall and rivers wide
A land where culture and history collide
Upon the plains of Kurdistan
Lies Halabja, Serene and grand

The clause, also known as ‘Section 28’, attempted to halt the perceived ‘promotion’ of homosexuality and made a clear distinction between valid heterosexual families and ‘pretend’ homosexual ones.
No local authority or government agency was ever successfully prosecuted under Section 28 before its repeal in 2003. Yet despite this, the fear of the legislation was enough to create a drop in funding of gay and lesbian charities and services, and to stop libraries stocking books by gay or lesbian authors or with LGBT themes.
Teachers were – and are – confused as to their remit in discussing homosexuality in schools, providing sex education and challenging homophobic bullying in the schoolyard. This is the true legacy of Section 28.

Ten Nights of the Beast!
Batman #417
Good start to new storyline.
The KGBeast is in town, with a list of targets.
There's an elaborate story here, and it's well set up. With a few murders along the way. Batman's (unsuccessful) attempt to rescue one of the victims is the action highlight.
On Sale Date: November 17, 1987.
