Musclos a la marinera (mussels in the sailor's way).

Recipe under the cut.

Ingredients:

1/2 kg big mussels

1 onion

4 ripe tomatoes

1/2 glass of white wine

1 spoon of flour

Ingredients for the picada (topping made of crushing and mixing the ingredients):

2 garlics

Saffron

Parsley

Preparation:

Boil the mussels with little water, in a covered pot, and filter the broth.

Make a sofregit with the onion and tomato, reduce the wine and add the flour. Let it cook.

Wet it with water resulting from boiling the mussels and leave it to cook for 10 minutes.

Add the sauce and the picada to the mussels, and let it cook alll together for 5 minutes.

Variations:

Instead of adding water that resulted from boiling the mussels, you can add fish stock.

The sauce can be grinded and put in the strainer/sieve.

You can add almonds to the picada.

It can be made with clams instead of mussels.

summer striked the desert like the devil himself had strode into town, heat waves rising from concrete & soil, dissolving into the suffocating air. with that time of the season came waves of tourists eager to know the supposed crash sites & while manu considered himself to be patient ( when he wanted to be ) he wasn’t the one to give tours. not to tourists, that is. locals, on the other hand— there wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do to earn a reputation. a selfish thought maybe, but one that had paid off throughout the years he had lived there.

today, showing off what the ranch could offer during those trying times of summer was at the top of his list as he showed mia around. after walking from one end of the terrain to the other, manu comes to a halt infront one of the many barns, hands placed on his hips & his head cocked to one side. “ alright, querida, eso es todo. ” he concludes the tour, “ these are the stables, where we keep the best of our best. ” he smiles, proud at the small wooden building & the animals inhabiting inside. one glance to his horse & he pats his side. “ the kids will love ‘em… do they know how to ride? do you know? ” a genuine question, one that naturally sounds like a challenge or the start of one of his infamous bad ideas.

Whenever I feel strange and distant from myself I like to go on google maps street view and explore the villages where my family are

#the problem is finding them cos there are a whole bunch of small places named alcantarilla #yday I was at a festival and there was a paella stall #the guy sighed thinking I was another person after vegan paella #and I asked if he had any paella marinera left and then he got excited #apparently no one had been getting it. it was unpopular. #that broke my heart. anyway we had a nice chat ! #the paella was alright. I suppose if you’re making large batches for English folk you aren’t gonna put loads of saffron #also it’s best when fresh made but you also can’t do that at a festival rly. you make it and that’s what there is even a few hrs later #but I had paella im happy:))))))))))) #I’ve been too tired to make it myself lately #I enjoy making it Moreso when it’s for someone #but everyone ik hates seafood. srsly we live on an island why do you hate seafood
