In this episode of Author to Author, Dr. Cynthia Toolin-Wilson interviews Joseph P. Michael, Th.D., on his book Mater Ecclesiae (Mother of the Church), Book 1 (April 15, 2024) The author offers the Church something that the Church does not currently possess, namely a comprehensive, multi-faceted treatment of the subject of Maria, Mater Ecclesiae, arguing that Mary was divinely predestined to be Mother of the Church from the dawn of creation. The book is both persuasive and provocative, potentially troublesome for those who remain indifferent to the Virgin Mother’s participation in Christ’s mission of redemption. The inquiry spans the intellectual spectrum, on one hand clarifying terminology for the purposes of catechetical and ecumenical dialogue, on the other hand providing voluminous authoritative references that call upon various theologians, philosophers, Saints, Doctors of the Church and scripture passages that are seemingly difficult to refute. At the heart of this investigation lies the existential reality of Mary’s maternal charity and the understanding of love as a reciprocal relationship between Mary and her adopted children. It is the mutual nature of love that spawns the idea that this Marian doctrine may benefit ecumenical dialogue and evangelization by appealing both to the heart and the importance of loving one another. But perhaps the most potentially contentious aspect of this investigation lies in the argument that as the doctrine relies on the principle of mutual love for one another, it becomes abundantly clear that love and devotion for the Virgin Mother becomes necessary if one aspires to eternal happiness. Repost from @orlandodiocese • As the New Year begins, we also celebrate the Solemnity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God! May Mary be a beautiful model of devotion and strength for us all. May we be willing to say YES whenever the Lord calls upon us along our spiritual journey! ✟♥︎ #blessedvirginmary #marymotherofgod #virginmary #solemnity #babyjesus #devotion #motherhood #catholicfaith #catholics #catholicchurch https://www.instagram.com/p/CYMAyNkueew/?utm_medium=tumblr

Reposted from @fathermcgivney Today we celebrate the feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary with this Vatican Mosaic Studio depiction based on Antonello de Messina’s painting. Our Lady’s chaste gaze expresses her grace. It seems to radiate towards the viewer, and emanates today’s Antiphon: “Your birth, O Virgin Mother of God, proclaims joy to the whole world, for from you arose the glorious Sun of Justice, Christ our God.” #FeastDay #Feast #BlessedMother #VirginMary #MaryMotherofGod #BlessedVirginMary #VisitFromHome (at United States) https://www.instagram.com/p/CTkECZQrNx7/?utm_medium=tumblr

Why Pray to Mary, too?
(click here for video; start at 0:30)
Tumblr media
Why not? When we pray to Mary, we pray to Jesus through Mary.
We hear of intercessory prayer in the Bible (1 Timothy 2-4, James 5:16, Revelation 5:6-8, Revelation 8:3-4) and even Jesus tells us to pray for others (Matthew 5:44).
In praying to Mary, we are asking for her intercession - we pray to Jesus, through Mary.
True devotion to Mary leads to God. She carried the Holy of Holies and, because Jesus is the Holy of Holies, it is only right to say that the womb He grew in is also holy because God made her so.
In praying that Hail Mary, we still express our complete dependence on God…
“Hail Mary, full of grace” Mary – full of God's life and love
“the Lord is with thee” a direct mention of God
“Blessed art thou among women” Mary was blessed by God to carry Jesus in her womb
“and blessed is the fruit of thy womb” honoring Mary = honoring Jesus, her Son
“Jesus” the prayer is ultimately centered around Jesus
“Holy Mary” Mary is holy because God made her so
“Mother of God” Mary bore and raised the Word Incarnate
“pray for us sinners” asks Mary to pray to God on our behalf
“now and at the hour of death” specifically "at the hour of death" for perseverance in grace until death to ultimately be with God in Heaven
in case ya missed it, here’s my first post on Marian Myths & More

Day 231 of 366 in 2020 📆Tuesday, 18-08-2020 ⚜️Theme: Let God Confirm your Hearts in Holiness When we speak of the attirbutes of God, one major thing that comes to our mind is holiness. However, this is the last thing that is found in the life of so many Christians today. It is very necessary that we remind ourselves everyday to live a holy life, because without holiness, we cannot have any place in God’s kingdom.
