1971, Vol. 1
A Mixtape
A History Lesson of sorts, Babies.
Composed of actual 45s I bought as a kid during '71, snap, crackle, pop and all. Recorded onto a Maxell C-60 low-bias cassette as a mix some time back in the '90s, the order much like it might have been back in '71 on any AM Rock Radio Station worth its salt, or on a hypothetical "American Top 40" episode.
Transferred from cassette to SSD sometime last year ('23). The old Nakamichi cassette deck don't miss a beat! Tape's in excellent shape, as well. No deterioration in 30 years. Currently listening to it via AM Broadcast, on a Zenith Transistor Radio, as The Gods Intended.
It's being played on a 5th Gen iPod (with the audiophile processor), the little hard drive of which I replaced with an SD card holder and a 256GB SD Card. It's playing over an AM Transmitter I soldered together from a kit about 10 years ago that's been essentially running 24/7 ever since I plugged it in first time.
Sonically, AM had this sort of expansiveness to it, like an automatic-level control with a degree of reverb, of sorts, that had this particular sound that lent itself really well to being listened to on the typical car radio, and on portable radios. The 45rpm "single mix" was always recorded "hotter" than the album track, so it was extra "in your face". That, combined with that reverb/compression inherent in AM was, and still is, Powerful.
It is essentially a Temporal Portal back in time, this experience of hearing them now, just as I heard them back than, on an AM Radio, that imperfect medium that seemed so perfect for this music...it is like being time-machined back.
Blogging about it to finally get the tracklist written down, since in my iTunes it's just 'Side 1 and Side 2' of the cassette xfer. lulz. Figured y'all would enjoy the selections. I'll have to dig through my tapes for Vol. 2 and the rest.
Side 1
1. I Feel The Earth Move (Carole King)
2. Another Day (Paul McCartney)
3. Maggie May (Rod Stewart)
4. Chicago (Graham Nash)
5. What Is Life (George Harrison)
6. Lucky Man (Emerson, Lake and Palmer)
7. Groove Me (King Floyd)
8. Sunshine (Jonathan Edwards)
9. Signs (Five Man Electrical Band)
10. 25 or 6 to 4 (Chicago WHEN THEY USETA ROCK!)
11. I'd Like To Teach The World To Sing (The New Seekers) (Yes, the Coke commercial song) (goddammit, we were so naive and innocent...why am I cryin'?)
12. Ooh, Child (The Five Stairsteps) (There, there, it's gonna be OK, baby...)
13. Where You Lead (Barbra Streisand)
14. Temptation Eyes (The Grass Roots)
Side 2
1. Day After Day (Badfinger)
2. Draggin' The Line (Tommy James)
3. I Hear You Knockin' (Dave Edmunds)
4. Nathan Jones (The Supremes) (Yeah, after Ross left, Mary and her two new Supremes came out swingin' with this killer song, cheesy phaser effect and bitchin' piano riffs included no extra charge!)
5. It Don't Come Easy (Ringo Starr)
6. Ain't No Sunshine (Bill Withers)
7. Beginnings (Chicago)
8. That's The Way I've Always Heard It Should Be (Carly Simon)
9. Friends (Elton John)
10. One Toke Over The Line (Brewer & Shipley)
11. Lookin' Out My Back Door (Creedence Clearwater Revival)
12. Me & Bobby McGee (Janis Joplin)
13. Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is? (Chicago) No, really, y'all, there was a time when CHICAGO DID NOT SUCK! REALLY!
14. Power To The People (John Lennon)
15. From The Beginning (Emerson, Lake and Palmer)
So that's Vol 1, and 1971 was an incredible-enough year that it took me at least 3 tapes to get all the killer 45s put on tape. I'll have to dig.

hey jaime, how are you??
i just come by to wish you a happy new year! (kinda late but it’s still january so it still counts 😌) i hope you have a great end of 2023 :))
also with a friend we were talking and we suddenly thought abt punzel!lucas/elu and we were wondering how these two lovebirds were doing and what would they be up to now, according to you 🤔👀 lowkey miss them now ngl sjdbdh (as well as the canon version of course)
can you believe this year is marking the five years of skam france s3, 5 YEARS OF ELU…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
BTW HAVE YOU SEEN THE NEW MAXEL CONTENT RECENTLY??? well literally all january we were being fed really well (individually and tgt) 😌 AND WE ALSO GOT MAXEL SELFIES IN BIG 2024 I VANT STOP SMILING THINKING ABT IT (sorry i’m freaking out again sjdbdh) their friendship is just so special and warms my heart sm every time it crosses my mind 💙
anyways i’ll stop my rant bc otherwise i could go on for hours 😭 wish you a wonderful evening/day and sending you lots of hugs and strength and luck 🫶🏻
Marieeeeee hiiiiiiiiii 😊❤️❤️❤️❤️!!! It was so nice to see a message from you! And a happy new year to you too!
I'm ok - I both can't believe it's gonna be the end of January and also can't believe it's still January 😂. Work has not stopped being insane since I took over this new position but I'm thankfully still loving it. And I'm especially loving living in a place where I am no longer dealing with -40 celcius through the winter 😅. I hope your holiday season and start of the new year has been going fabulously for you!
And 5 years? 5 YEARS?! How is that even possible omg 😭😭😭. That calls for a rewatch, I think. My babies 🥹. And the Maxel content yessss! I love you for linking posts thank you! One of my friends thankfully sends me things because I would end up missing them on social media otherwise. Honestly the joy their friendship brings me. 5 years and those boys are still tight. I love them so much. Also the fact that Rocco was looped into their little friend group and we have actual pics of Maxence with Rocco AND Axel? Truly... life has been good to us 😌😂.
And Punzel babies? Well, they're living their happy life together in their flat. Eliott definitely refers to Lucas as his husband even though - as Lucas insists - they're too young to get married. Eliott thinks that's nonsense because he's been waiting what amounts to their entire lives and obviously they're going to be together for life anyways. But for that same reason, he's not too fussed about it - official papers or not, they are married in his mind. They've definitely added to their little fam and have a cat in addition to their pup Pascale. The cat absolutely rules their home (as cats are known to do) and is the only one who can get Pascale to stop being mouthy (Huskies you know 😂). Lucas would definitely complain the cat doesn't like him and play up that they have some sort of nemesis relationship. Only Eliott has caught Lucas curled up asleep on the couch with the kitty on his chest wrapped up in his arms more than once. Eliott would be a little jealous about the fact that he's the one who dotes on the kitty but she still seems to be an utter suck for Lucas... only, he's the exact same way so he can't blame her 😌. Second to Lucas, her fave is Idriss. Because this cat has ✨taste✨. I'm trying to think what they would name their kitty... probably something Rapunzel adjacent because they're saps... but I don't have a name popping to mind just yet.
And of course there are the fun dynamics of their relationship that they will probably always be figuring out. Like Lucas realizing (and relishing) in the power he has over Eliott and the way he can make Eliott's brain short circuit in any variety of ways (like saying something incredibly explicit in the middle of much more innocent activities like cooking dinner). Then Eliott will remember he no longer holds his Punzel in the 'look but don't touch' category and things work out quite nicely for both of them 😌. Basically... they're living their best lives figuring out adulthood and now jobs together ❤️.
Sending you all the love and hugs back!

Dollar Bin #9:
World Party's Goodbye Jumbo
Tumblr media
In the Spring of 1990 I became momentary friends with the edgy older dude next door.
I was 14 and in 8th grade, emerging from a month of missed school due to an epic case of poison oak followed by an even more epic bout with the chicken pox. I looked like the Elephant Man, one eye blistered entirely shut. Edgy Older Dude was in his mid-twenties and was definitely on drugs.
How do I know he was on drugs, you ask? Don't worry, I still know little to nothing about drugs. But a year after our moment of friendship Edgy Guy moved out and my dad, who owned the guy's apartment, sent me over to clean out his kitchen. In the frig I found, swear to God, at least 7 open bottles of identical BBQ sauce. Now my frig today can get a bit chaotic; sometimes I discover we're working on two competing jars of mayo simultaneously. But only a 20-something white dude on drugs is capable of racking up 7+ squirt jars of Kraft's Slow Simmered Original.
Anyway, this guy and I conducted our friendship entirely through his bedroom window. You see, at that point in 8th grade I was searching for The Answer. So were you. A calendar year earlier I Won't Back Down had fundamentally changed my life. Tom Petty's full moon masterpiece disinterested me in baseball cards and comic books forever and set me firmly on the path that led straight to the Dollar Bin.
Petty led me to the Wilburys; the Wilburys led me to the Beatles; the Beatles led me to insist on getting a pair of Lennon's circular granny frames at the optometrist. But then I hit a roadblock. MTV was all Aerosmith and Janet Jackson and I never could work up the energy to try and understand Janie's Got a Gun or what had happened in 1814. So what was next? My 8th grade self had no idea.
Then World Party's Put the Message in the Box glided out the window next door: a warm, earnest cloud of harmony and comfort set to a white guy beat.
And if you listen now, you might hear, a new sound coming in, as an old one disappears...
Him: "Hey kid, what's up?"
(It was a reasonable question. I was standing directly outside his bedroom window, staring in, transfixed.)
Me: "Oh, hey. Sorry. I like that song, sir."
Him: "Yeah. Just came out. World Party. Totally sweet."
Me: "Wow. Yeah. I like the Beatles."
Him: "Right on kid. Want me to tape this for you?"
Me: "Wow. Yeah. Like, totally."
A day later the guy's arm stuck out the window and passed me a Maxell tape (remember the guy sitting in profile in his armchair, getting blown away by the audio quality one experienced from a Maxell tape?) of World Party's Goodbye Jumbo, an album I will now argue belongs in the pantheon of still extremely worthwhile 80's White Guy Rock.
Ah, the category known as Worthwhile 80's White Guy Rock. Stephen Stills appears in it not. Little did you know that what started with Armed Forces and found prestige pinnacles with The Joshua Tree, Disintegration, Graceland, So and Synchronicity, and classic oddball variations with Shooting Rubber Bands at the Stars and Petty, Dylan and Co's various resuscitations, all finds its righteous conclusion in Goodbye Jumbo, Karl Wallinger's fantastic double to The White Album.
Of course Goodbye Jumbo remains a very minor record in comparison to the others I mention above. If there's a signature sound from the album left in the memory of anyone other than me it's likely the brief, squirming riff that opens the first single, Way Down Now. Wallingher squeezes his guitar like a full tube of toothpaste, spiraling out a strangled surge of joy. Take a listen.
youtube
At the close of the 80's my father seemed like the person least likely to help me on my quest to find awesome popular music. My siblings and I grew up without a working stereo in the house and when I insisted we listen to Running Down a Dream in the car the only vaguely relevant comment my mercurial and forever overworked dad could summon up was that I should really listen to Toad, Cream's 8 minute drum solo song from Wheels of Fire. Somehow that track, and that track alone, had lodged in his memory. Was his recommendation earnest or mischievous? Definitely both. That's my dad.
Anyway, my father's sole moment of brilliance when it comes to talking to me about music in the last 35 years came when he first overheard me listening to Way Down Now. As the song began to climax and soar he stepped over the Millennium Falcon that still cluttered up my bedroom floor and started singing along!
Woo-Woo! Woo-Woo!
Somewhere in his brain, otherwise crammed with Reganomics, house paint color wheels and bidding estimates, there was still room left for Toad and the background vocal line from Sympathy for the Devil.
"Your band is stealing from the Stones, son," he said as the song ended. Then he wandered off, continuing to sing it, without further explanation, leaving me totally flummoxed: who were "the Stones" and what did they have to do with the fantastic music coming from the homemade tape I had on repeat? Furthermore, did my father have a secret life?
I once again sought out the dude next door, standing at his window, oblivious to all social mores, until he reappeared.
"What's up kid? Like the tape?"
"Oh yes, sir. But my dad says they're stealing from the Stones."
"The Rolling Stones? Damn, he's right. Sympathy for the Devil. They're stealing from everyone. It's genius. The fifth track is my favorite. Pure Prince."
At that point I was even more confused. I knew about The Rolling Stones. My friends Matt and Eric, who had cool dads, had gone to see Keith and Mick at the LA Colosseum the year before; Guns and Roses, whose fold-out naked lady tape cover for Lies scared the living crap out of me, had opened for them. But how could a band copy the senior citizens behind Mixed Emotions and the Bat Dance guy at the same time?
I went, like a good little boy, and listened to my tape again, counting down to the fifth track, Ain't Gonna Come Till I'm Ready, and I instantly discovered it was the only song I couldn't stand on the album. Maybe Neighbor Dude and I were not destined to be best friends after all. World Party sang like a girl in that song! The word "falsetto" was definitely not in my vocabulary and it would take another year or so before I heard Crazy Love and began to understand white people soul music.
Another word that was not in my vocabulary was "genre", but my self-education took a step forward when I realized that every song on Goodbye Jumbo had a different mood, a different sound.
Listen to the album today and all this stuff is obvious. The album opens with a handmade gesture; Is It Too Late? is Eno sitting in on the Let It Be sessions, with Wallinger turning on an amateur drum machine and then asking an engineer to start recording even though, obviously, he's already rolling. Does this band know what they are doing, we wonder? Of course they do; by the middle of the track things are on fire.
youtube
Every song that follows after in Goodbye Jumbo unfurls its own unique sonic banner. Check out the clouded rainbow dream pop of When the Dream Comes, or the Plastic Ono beautiful death march of God On My Side, or the Dylan/Simon breakfast cereal mashup on Take It Up.
In the decade that followed, Yo La Tengo took Goodbye Jumbo's mixtape, honor-thy-many-masters, approach and perfected it. They rocked; they crooned; they raged; they droned. But Ira, Georgia and James were three (ridiculously talented) people. Wallinger built Goodbye Jumbo alone. That's right; don't be fooled by the full band, cheesy music videos: like the aforementioned Plastic Ono Band, World Party was basically just one guy playing every instrument.
The lyrics on the record are tough for me to measure with any real objectivity. Love Street and Put the Message in the Box sounded to me, at age 14, like sister tracks to Let it Be and Imagine. Wallinger isn't humble on this record; he's out to change the world with a way early environmentalist focus and all kinds of Pleas For Understanding that probably sound pretentious to modern ears. But I still hear those songs like I'm back in Algebra 1, teaching myself how to draw peace signs.
By one measure Goodbye Jumbo is the last record I own that should be considered for the Dollar Bin. Last Spring, after 30 years of looking, I found a pristine vinyl copy and bought it for $40, making it the most expensive individual record I've ever bought. Vinyl records were barely made between 89 and the 00's, so records from that era are always priced at a steep premium.
But don't lose faith in me because of that sticker price, my fellow Dollar Bin Dwellers: I guarantee that you can pick up a CD copy of Goodbye Jumbo for a buck without too much hard looking, and, who am I kidding, all this stuff is available on Spotify anyway.
So I'm putting this message in the box and I'm sending it around the world in a car: Goodbye Jumbo is the late 80's Dollar Bin treasure.

Simple shining
Summary: Max enjoyed the simple life now, he'd given up the hero business and was now a simple farmer but like most things this simple life would never last. Short one-shot.
Disclaimer: No I don't own, but I would like Kane as my bodyguard
Dirt flew as Max plunged the pick axe into the ground, breaking the top layer of soil that had been covered with ice in the last winter. He silently thanked the lord for all the muscles that battling the forces of darkness had given him as they had proven invaluable over the last few years. The top layer came away easily under Max's skilful hits and revealed the dark fertile earth underneath. Setting aside the pick he picked up a fork and began to turn over the soil, getting ready for the spring planting.
He enjoyed his new life. Adam, although a robot, had earnt a place in the other farmers hearts and no questions were asked about their past as long as they worked hard and didn't cause any trouble. He was a hard worker and the other farmers thought of Adam as a gift from the gods as he didn't need to take breaks and could work 20 hours straight before needing to be recharged. All in all, they enjoyed their new lives and Max could almost forget the horrific events of his life before.
"MAX HOWS IT LOOKING?"
Max twisted his head around and saw the head farmer walking towards him, Bob Maxell, an honest hard-working man like everyone in the village; Max smiled and hefted his fork over his shoulder.
"Looks like everything's going to go smoothly Bob, get your men out here and we can have this field done in no time."
Bob nodded and whistled, in no time at all Max was surrounded by twenty men all hitting the ground with their picks, he lifted his arm up just in time to avoid being smacked in the eye by a giant wad of dirt. The farmer next to him smiled apologetically and put less force into his swings until Max had moved out of the way. He stood by Bob and smiled as he watched the preparations for the planting. Adam was out in the back making more progress in five minutes than most of these men would do in an hour; Max barely suppressed a chuckle as he saw the robot was wearing a straw hat to avoid any rain damage to his wiring.
"You two, you're a God send."
Max smiled up at Bob and answered in a quiet voice.
"This place is a God send."
Max thought back to Guardiana, to Princess Anri, Luke, Zylo, Mae and Lowe. He felt a frown form on his face at the thought of his oldest friend. What had happened to him? He still owed him so much, the boy who had found him washed up on a beach with amnesia, who became his friend and fought by his side despite his timid nature. Bob looked at him with piercing eyes that seemed to stare right into his soul.
"You're thinking about your past, aren't you?"
Max nodded silently, watching his fellow farmers work. He could never repay those debts; he most likely would never see his old friends again until the afterlife, if there was such a thing.
"Why don't you go visit? I don't know where you're from but if you're missing your friends that much why don't you just go see them."
Max's eyes widened and he shook his head violently. He was miles away from Rune, in fact he didn't even know where Rune was in relation to his new home.  It would be near impossible to get back for a “quick visit”
"No, they'd make me stay, I have a life here. They are better off without me."
Bob was about to press the matter when screaming echoed up the path from the village. One of the women ran straight to Bob and collapsed in his arms. Max recognized her as his wife, Natasha.
"Natasha what is it?"
"MONSTERS THEY ARE ATTACKING THE VILLAGE!"
Max exchanged a glance with Adam who quickly dropped his tools, they both started out into a quick run, heading directly for the source of the screaming. He skidded to a stop and watched as a group of six goblins attacked the houses and the people, who ran screaming at the sight of these unknown creatures. Max looked around and saw a scythe leaning against the door, he again thanked God that he lived in a village of farmers and picked it up. He twirled it around in his hands. It wasn't a Sword but it would have to do. He looked up and charged at the approaching goblins with a war cry.
The fight was quick, fierce and incredibly one-sided, the goblins were completely overwhelmed by the two experienced adventurers.  It had been years since Max had been in a fight but any fears that he may be rusty were quickly washed away as he cut down two of the goblins in quick succession.  Glancing over he could see Maxs’ laser pierce through the chest of another.  The three remaining goblins looked between each other and span around, running towards the outskirts of the village.
Max watched satisfied as the monsters ran screaming from the village. He allowed the scythe to fall listlessly from his hands before turning back to the stunned villagers. He felt his heart drop as he came to the conclusion that they would make him leave town, an apology was already half way out before the cheering started. Bob came up to him and clapped him on the shoulder, sending him tumbling forward.
"Sorry bout that but good on ya Max, you showed those monsters who was boss."
Max smiled sheepishly and rubbed the back of his head, delighted to see that Adam was getting the same treatment of hugs and smacks on the back that he was doing, well less of the later as people didn't want to break their hands on his unbreakable steel.
"It was nothing, I've faced worse."
Bob gaped and stuttered.
"W-what could be worse that those things?"
"A lot, you should have seen what I had to face..."
He trailed off and waved his hand dismissively.
"Well that's in the past, so I guess this means I can stay."
Bob smiled brightly.
"We'd be honoured if you did."
Max grinned and walked back to the fields with his still cheering entourage, happy in the knowledge that he had secure himself a home for life.

Finally. As of tonight, each and every cassette in my personal dub library has been digitized. All 400+ of them. They'll be burned onto CD-Rs and backed up on multiple drives. Assuming that those discs are kept in a cool dry place and the files be moved over to new drives every few years, they can and will outlast the inevitable compositional degradation of the original tapes, which will still take a few more decades to run its course.
A great portion of my life and evolution of listening habits are all in these tapes. Radio dubs, tapes made from family and friends, found sounds, recording tricks, handwritten tracklistings - they're all here. Without Maxell, Recoton, Scotch, Sony, JVC, Fuji, TDK, Silver Shadow and others, this personalized music diary would not even be possible. No record-store victory tours, no WUSB, no music blog, no essential connections - nothing.

Black Cilice — Esoteric Atavism (Iron Bonehead)
Tumblr media
Iron BoneHead Productions · Black Cilice - Channeling Old Power
“Beyond the Veil” is the first song on this new LP from Black Cilice, and the phrase will do for a sort of mission statement, for the music’s aesthetics and for the listener. The Portuguese project seems to be among those black metal bands that really mean it, so its negative affect is intended as a vector of spiritual transport, opening portals to ominous, nefarious zones of horror and damnation — not necessarily Pandemonium, or rural New Jersey, but you get the idea. Those same sounds present the casual listener with a set of challenges: how to penetrate the deep murk of the recording, its strangely brittle pummeling and all the warping, pulsing waves of what must be guitars. There’s music here, after a fashion, but it’s almost entirely buried beneath a haze. A veil.
Given Black Cilice’s chosen genre, that’s sort of the point. A lot of raw black metal sounds like it has been recorded in someone’s musty toolshed with crap, third-hand equipment. Going beyond those too-refined conditions, Esoteric Atavism seems to have been captured on a taped-over Maxell UR 90 (some of you know…) with a barely functioning boombox, positioned in a sub-basement adjacent the one in which the band played — a thick cement foundation between them. Lo-fi? This is no-fi, a purposeful intensification of early Scandi black metal’s preference for production techniques that might make the music sound closer to death. Black Cilice appears to be less interested in the romance of utter destruction, and more engaged by the weirding possibilities of cultic experience. Songs are titled “Triumph over Eternity” and “Spiritual Poisoning”; those could be playful representations of mortal dread, or they could be paradoxes, suspending final conclusions in favor of suspension itself — a blankness, a void.
Even for a self-consciously extreme version of what some folks insist on calling extreme music, Black Cilice makes difficult, disorienting sounds. It’s easy to get lost in the filmy miasma. You think you’re listening to “Atavistic Reconnection” (nice title), but you find that you’re actually halfway through “Towards Transcendence.” Perhaps that’s the desired effect, a sort of ritual hypnosis, a trance. Many listeners may encounter something different: a flattened and ultimately tedious stream of vaguely discernable noise. That noted, anyone with an interest in how sound and texture can involve each other in synesthetic confusions may wish to see where Esoteric Atavism can take them. If you have black cowls and candelabra set up nearby your stereo equipment — well, here are your weekend plans.

What if...
Toby was born in tbatf and became the new Red Leader?
Tumblr media
Attention: this AU is not related to my canon, and does not try to repeat others. All matches are random. Enjoy reading)))
As you know I love tbatf. More precisely, I loved it, because it started to get completely fucked up, so yes. I just now realized that in this comic Tord is a complete asshole, that I think it’s better for our Ell not to be with him. It is better to let him get divorced than to live with a tyrant husband.
Now about ay:
There is no Tedd and his friends here, only five children are dedicated here: Tobias, Colin, Ethan, Theo and Maxell. And the action takes place in tbatf.
Over the course of the comic, Ell witnesses everything that Tord does and suffers from it. She also finds out that she is pregnant from him, and decides to keep the child for herself. For seven months spent next to her brother, Edd, she realizes that her best friend, Tom, has already completely slipped.
Upon arrival at the base, Tord takes away her title of second in command, just like Paul had his right hand title, and tells them that Vlahd is now his new second in command and right hand. Paul and Patrick are demoted to cleaners, and Ell is forced to clean up as well.
Since Ell and Pat have a good relationship, she tells him that she is pregnant from Tord, and wants that when the child is born, she herself will raise him without a father. At first, Pat suggests that she have an abortion, but Ell tells him that she will not come out anymore because she is in her ninth month.
Ell, despite the pregnancy, still lives the life of a soldier, and can’t do anything about it, because Tord doesn’t care about that, a new life is growing in her. At one point, everything crosses the line of what is permitted, and Tord majorly changes Ell when he takes two girls with him to the ball, and Ell, who has tried on the dress, makes her work.
Ell realizes that she will have to run like her brother. She persuades Patrick to cover for her when she runs, and he agrees. Because he understands that if she is not helped, she may die. Ell escapes.
Sergeant Brianna tells Tord that Matt and Ell weren't present at the roll call, and Tord doesn't know who he's more angry with: Matt or his pregnant wife, who is doing her own thing again.
While Ell is safe from the Red Leader, Patrick visits her. So she doesn't feel left out.
Bri notices this and follows the Patrick to find out what's really going on. She still does not trust Ell, but still takes her side.
On the day when Ell was supposed to give birth, the base happens to be completely fucked up, Matt is still scared, Tord is completely distraught. One of Tord's mistresses informs him about the birth of his son, and Tord realizes that he has given birth to the ideal heir to the Red Army. He decides to kill Ell. And he does it and takes his son with him.
Patrick, having decided to visit Ell after giving birth, finds her dead. He feels guilty before her, because he could not protect her and her child. Brianna notices his frustration and finds out what happened as well. They want to take the child from the Red Leader and raise it as their own, but he does not allow them to do so.
Several years pass. Everyone has had children (including Pat and Bri) and it would seem that they live in peace, but not the pilot with the sergeant and their daughter. They witness how Tord treats Toby horribly. Patrick and his wife were put in charge of teaching Toby, but it does them good and they bond and they help him escape to his friends.
They also learn that Tobias has a sister, Colin, but the three remain silent about it.
Penelope, aka Penny, the daughter of Patrick and Brianna, understands that she has love feelings for Toby, and tries to always help him as best she can. Naturally, Patrick warns Penny that love can be dangerous, but the girl does not listen.
Toby tries to find out something about his mother, but constantly fails. The only people who tell him about her are Patrick and Brianna, his uncle, and the mothers of his friends who knew her well. Through this, he learns that he is very similar to her.
At one point, Toby realized that he had fallen in love and, to celebrate, told his father about it. Tord was furious when he found out that his son had succumbed to love feelings that hit him. He didn't want Toby to feel anything. He deliberately isolated him in order to focus on his studies and training. Romance was not yet in the plans, but Tord was going to give Toby for a rich bride, and not for a soldier.
At one point, everything crossed the line. Toby escaped the base again with Penny. And Tord called Patrick for an explanation. Penny and Toby at that moment were outside the door and listened to Tord yelling at a subordinate. A shot rang out and Penny froze. The Red Leader killed her father...
Toby was put in a cell for experiments. Tord was going to brainwash his son into a subordinate so he could wear the crown in peace. Penny told all her friends everything. They're going to rescue Toby.
At this time, the process was already running, and Tord decided to kill all his old friends, which he succeeded. Also among the victims were Penny's mother, Brianna, as well as her friend Sarah.
Paul could not forgive himself for the death of his wife, and tried to kill Tord himself. But... He managed to wound Tord, but he killed him too. Dying Tord was still able to put the crown on his son.
So when Ethan and his friends arrived they were greeted by Toby. And they realized that they were late. Toby became the new Red Leader.
Ethan, Theo, Maxell, Colin and Penny organize their own personal resistance. Ethan finds his father's cape and starts wearing it. He also finds his laser gun™ and the time machine that Edward Gould used to try to change the past. Colin finds out that Tobias is actually her brother and tries to live with it. Their plan to retrieve Tobias' memories fails; Theo and Maxell are captured, followed by Colin and Penny. Ethan goes on the run. History repeats itself.
Ethan, having lost everything, decides to commit suicide, just like his father did when he was in the same situation. But he is not allowed to do so by Theo and Max. They drag him to the base, where Toby conducts an interrogation. The guys try to bring him to clean water, but nothing happens. He throws them in jail.
Colin suggests that if Ethan couldn't commit suicide, then the past can be changed in a different way. She decides to change the past so that their father and mother are happy, and that Tord is not so evil, so that their family becomes happy. Theo supports her, and with him the others.
The guys manage to use Ethan's time machine and change the past. A new timeline is being formed, and when the guys return to their own, a new world begins. Toby got his memories back, and now the guys will rebuild their new world.
In many ways, this AU is similar to @cursed-saphire-hart AU, but no, I didn't take the idea from her. I just needed something that I could do with tbtf because after what they did to Tord... It's the only way to do tbatf au with my Next Gen and show my Tobias as the villain. That's all.
