You are definitely allowed to prefer Taylor Swift over Beyoncé for… whatever reason that may be god bless your unseasoned soul. What you shouldn’t be doing is diminishing the work of Beyoncé and other black and queer artists in order to prop Taylor up. The fact that it’s the year of 2023 and we’re having these weird ass conversations of can Beyoncé even sing, dance, or put on a performance? You don’t even have to be a fan of Beyoncé to recognize the immense talent and impact that woman has on multiple demographics of people. Whether that be the Black community, other POC, or the LGBTQ community, Beyoncé has made an impact. And she actually does her research too and doesn’t use minorities as brownie points in her work (cough taylor’s vogue dancer cough). Beyoncé’s work only continues to improve, mind you. And to either deny or downplay that talent in order to prop up a mediocre white woman and her mediocre lyrics and her mediocre production is insane.

Prefer Taylor over Beyoncé? Ok. Love both? Ok. There is nothing wrong with that. As I stated in my previous post, I don’t like comparing female artists; it doesn’t do anything for me or those artists (especially since, from what I understand, they’re on good terms). However, if you expect me to believe that what’s considered the standard for Taylor is the same standard for Beyoncé (or, the standard for white artists vs the standard for black artists), it’s not going to happen. If you want an example, Beyoncé preparing for Coachella is more than enough proof; she had to destroy and completely reset her body after giving birth to twins in order to give the best show she could possibly give. Being the first black woman to headline the festival meant she had literally everything running on the line. We see this sentiment true with other black artists, too, like Halle Bailey, who had to undergo death threats, racism, bullying, and harassment despite having a perfect performance on the big screen and during her live performances. Halle had to prove she deserved to be treated with human decency, and had she even had a strand of hair left out she would have been crucified. I can even go on about the treatment of darker skinned vs light skinned/mixed women (those in closer proximity to whiteness) in the rap industry. We would be here forever talking about this.

And it’s not me pulling out the race card, it’s me simply recognizing that white women are celebrated for their mediocrity and black women are not. It’s me saying that Beyoncé’s fans calling out Taylor’s whiteness is in no where comparable to them calling out Beyoncé’s blackness, especially since Taylor’s whiteness benefits her in contrast to the way Beyoncé’s blackness punishes her. We can no longer pretend the struggle of white women are identical to the struggle of black women. Because, as we’ve seen with Taylor, her ally ship is performative, something she can hang up in the closet and forget about when she goes home at night. When it comes down to it, she will always adhere to her white womanhood to get her out of the shit she places herself in.

If you want to be ignorant and play colorblind to these issues, that’s on you. But don’t expect me to pretend that there isn’t an issue here—an issue that has always been here.

sometimes i still think about the fact that nancy is one of the most powerful, plot-critical characters in stranger things, and how she has led her own arc every single season--from driving the search for barb to taking down the lab to figuring out the flayed to being a fucking general by the end of season 4. and about how she was taking care of the kids during the last half of s3 and how she was the leader of the hawkins group in s4. like, i really cannot emphasize that enough. once the main character with superpowers and the actual war veteran chief of police are out of town, nancy is the unquestionable leader. the person everyone turns to without thinking twice. i’m serious. nancy is a teenage girl who has her every move questioned and doubted and still the only people more powerful than her in the show are a girl with superpowers and a war vet.

and when danger--physical danger--shows up, she doesn’t fucking hesitate. she’s diving straight into the upside down. she’s leading the older group to safety again. she’s shoving aside the 5 different traumatic experiences she just witnessed to put together a multi-step military operation and she’s taking point to go shove a shotgun in vecna’s face. and yeah, they end up not being alone when they face vecna because el is there, but nancy doesn’t know that. she’s fully intending on going to kill an adult man who has control over an entire dimension and has been murdering people with his mind, even though she has no backup, no superpowered el, no hopper and his government contacts, nothing.

and yet.

AND YET

the vast majority of natalia dyer’s press for s4 was about a love triangle. and i get it, a lot of interviewers can’t get away with not asking those questions, but you know what else you could ask about? nancy’s growth over the last 4 seasons. how it felt being the leader of the hawkins gang. how she thinks nancy feels after losing another friend. what was running through her head when vecna had her. what her thoughts are regarding nancy’s plan, or what’s going through her head during that final scene when she’s *checks notes* standing behind the show’s protagonist and looking at The Plot as it rises from the ground.

or, i don’t know, ask her what it’s like being the person handling guns on set. what those upside down night shoots were like. what her thoughts are on nancy’s choice of college! what she thinks about the perm! for fuck’s sake there are only a thousand different questions that would’ve been far more interesting or at least personal to her character. but no. every interview boils down to team steve or team jonathan, as if a tired, already resolved love triangle is anywhere near as interesting as literally any other part of her character

that 500k is also inflated because of atk buff food + potion, and shouki no kami has -140% all resistance when he's paralyzed

Danny around 16 human years is working with the JL as a representative for the current King of the Infinite Realms (he’s his own representative because he wanted to meet the JL), about some Realm objects being in this world that really shouldn’t.

The JL keep making culturally disrespectful comments and unintentional insults about the Realms citizens. Eventually one of them not believing Danny is a ghost asks how he died if he’s so adamant on being dead. This results in Danny snapping at the League. Completely terrifying all of them and starts yelling about how disrespectful all of them have been the entire time, leading to a crash course in Realm decorum.

Eventually he starts explaining how asking about someone obsessions or how they died are extremely offensive and considered aggressive actions towards all types of ghosts, even realm born and halfas.

Danny realizes too late they don’t know about halfas and starts panicking over giving away his human identity. And has to come up for an explanation on what halfas and realm borns are. Danny who is blushing out of embarrassment and stuttering to find an explanation looks around, sees the bat symbol on batman. Explanation for half ghosts and born ghosts, Bat=> bird=> BIRDS AND BEES!!

Danny then spends a good 30 minutes attempting to explain how reproduction works for ghosts and between species, except Danny doesn’t know how ghosts reproduce. And health was a freshman year class, meaning he missed most of it and and also has no idea how human reproduction let alone cross species reproduction works. Danny either gives them info that makes so little sense it must be right or what sounds like a 4 year olds idea of how babies are made, but he’s the representative so he must be telling them accurate information.

Eventually the league runs into Vlad Masters and hear him talk about halfas. The league is like “we know what those are!” and Vlad thinks his identity is compromised until they start talking about something that sound like a extremist conspiracy theory. Vlads just like “how did you come up with that?!?” The league say Phantom told them that and Vlad realizes that Danny has no idea how any species reproduce.

Then Danny refuses to listen to Vlad try to explain ghost and human reproduction to him, because ‘Vlads just a Froot Loop’.

I saw your Beyonce/Taylor Swift post and What's wrong with "comparing two queens that are killing it". line? Isn't that what it comes down to with female artists? Why can't we just appreciate all female artists instead of the competitions?

I’m going to take this as you asking this question in good faith so here’s the short answer: No. There is nothing inherently wrong with that statement, and depending on the context, I agree with it. But here’s the long answer:

A lot of fandoms do take it upon themselves to start unnecessary, unprovoked beef between artists, especially female artists of color (i.e the Cardi and Nicki drama), consequently ruining the love a lot of people have for those artists. However, the Taylor and Beyoncè comparisons have a few problems I want to address that aren’t actually new when talking about female artists of color and their white counterparts. Firstly, the whole comparisons only started because of the uptick of insufferable swifties online discrediting all of the work, effort, and impact Beyoncé has had on people before and today (and Beyoncé fans are simply responding to these ridiculous claims). Secondly, swifties also have a strange tendency to compare her exclusively to objectively better black artists (Beyoncé, Prince, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, and more) by diminishing their work and influence in order to prop her up. Noticeable so, they never really do this with Taylor’s fellow white peers. It begs the question: Why do so many swifties feel the need to put Taylor on a pedestal by discrediting arguably more popular, influential black and queer artists? While I do agree with the notion that female artists should be celebrated and giving the props they deserve, we can no longer pretend that black artists like Beyoncé don’t have to give twice the effort, twice the dedication, twice the energy, and twice the style in order to be given their credit. Meanwhile, an artist like Taylor is rewarded and worshiped for her white mediocrity and performance activism, never really pressured to perform to the degree other black artists are expected to, or forced to show allyship when it really matters. So for her fans to degrade Beyoncé’s high quality vocals, performance, and production—which has been consistent and improving over the years—and be rightfully told off just to resort to the corny “let’s just celebrate all women” is, in my eyes, the epitome of white feminism.

Taylor’s fans have even admitted that she isn’t the best singer, only marketing herself as a good “songwriter”. Ok, so an artist that can’t sing that well, can’t dance, has easily replicable lyrics we could get from other Indie artists, and has a very specific demographic as her fans is someone to be considered a legend? How is this considered the standard but influential black legends’ work are downplayed and diminished? Why does it hurt swifties to see black women be given their credit? Why does Taylor have to be included in every conversation (I.e the Lizzo situation at the Grammy’s where Taylor Swift fans took Lizzo’s appreciation for Beyoncé as hatred for Taylor or Beyoncé’s success on the renaissance tour being overshadowed by the eras tour). And when called out on this, why do her stans resort back to the fake “just support all women” take?

It’s why I can’t really stand by that one post up here that states we shouldn’t debate over female artists because at the end of the day, “they’re all female artists subjected to the harsh lens of the patriarchy.” That statement ignores the intersectionality present in the topic of female artists’ treatment in the industry. It ignores how the expectations of white female artists more than often than not tend to be different for woc artists. I see the “let’s just all get along” saying as a way to deflect from the valid criticism and complaints people of color have for white artists like Taylor Swift. And considering how Taylor’s online brand is playing victim and being the poor innocent white girl whenever she is called out on something, the behavior her stans exhibit are nothing out of the ordinary.

In summary, I don’t think comparisons between female artists are needed. Especially female artists in entirely different genres of music and style. But I do know a lot white Taylor Swift fans love to play the racism card and then hide behind misogyny to cover their tracks. Once again, something Taylor herself does WELL.

I don't know if anyone else has asked this before, but what do you think about Djura's character? He's a very sympathetic character in the rather cruel and grim world of Yharnam. </3

I haven't been asked, but I 100% agree. tbh I haven’t actually thought as extensively about Djura since most of my thinking = writing, and I mostly write early Healing Church shenanigans, but - I can’t imagine finding Djura not sympathetic? When you (the Hunter) roll into his turf and he’s like “hey man, maybe fuck off, these dogs were once people”, it’s pretty clearly an oh no am I the bad guy??? moment for the player character LOL. For the purpose of my own plotting/headcanons I like to imagine him as an old colleague of Gehrman’s, specifically because I think the Kegs worked in the same workshop as Gehrman’s early Hunters/entourage. In my headcanon a lot of Hunters are former Prospectors, before anyone and everyone began taking up arms by necessity - though I can imagine the Kegs, including Djura, being general mechanics or gunsmiths or even artificers before they focused their talents on weapons for the Hunt. I assume, like a lot of folk seem to, that Djura probably took part in the burning of Old Yharnam with the Kegs, and his guilt drove him to renounce hunting entirely when their guild was disbanded in the aftermath. We also don’t 100% know what the mechanism for accessing the Hunter’s Dream is, but one of my preferred theories is that Hunters are cut off once they stop taking blood - hence Djura’s reference to dreaming in the past tense. If he has no blood echoes to give because he no longer kills, then by definition he no longer dreams.  

I’ve not given much thought to his actual character, but I think his rejection of the Hunt (because beasts were once men) would be interesting to articulate in contrast to Gehrman’s belief (from his cut dialogue) that killing beasts is the “only thing that keeps us human, now.” Does Djura believe there is still a degree of human awareness in the beasts? Is he a believer in an eventual cure to reverse the scourge, and that’s why he’s standing guard over Old Yharnam? Does that make him naive, or a grim sort of hopeful, or both? Does he have a personal stake in reconciling people’s views of the beasts - or keeping them alive at least - rather than a straightforward sentiment of atonement for the burning? If he's willing to kill fellow humans to keep beasts alive, he probably did not leave the Kegs or the workshop on good terms - so how did that go? In any case, these are some of the questions I’d ask if I were planning to write him. 

What I do know is that Egg, my singularly inept Hunter OC who tries to adopt every creature that doesn’t kill him (and some that do), would want to drop his dayjob as a Church Propagandist and live in Djura’s beast utopia.

So, I've heard a lot of negative press about the movie Wasih, which, hey cool. I wasn't keen on watching but it came up and why not.

Here is my issue. I was lead it wasn't good for the following reasons:

Wish Girl: Shouldn't we grant every wish ever no matter what!?

So I was kind of surprised when it ACTUALLY went much more like:

She'll follow their rules, but she'll ask (borderline demand) they buy her expensive brand name clothes, products, electronics, et cetera. She'll only eat top of the line food products. She won't settle for anything less. They said they would get anything she wanted/needed if she asked, so she'll be their pet while also trying to use up all the money they have. Tries to be an expensive pet.

But. It gets to the point where she pushes too much and acts like a spoiled brat.

They at first let her get away with it. They want to spoil her, but the bratty attitude has to go. Johnny was happy at first at her compliance, but the bratty princess attitude steadily grated on his nerves. And Simon knew what she was doing, it wouldn't work, he wanted to see how far she would push, how far she'd try to take advantage of their love and generosity, but her attitude would need fixing now.

So they train their pet to have manners. Only good little pets get rewards for good attitudes.

And once they instill manners into her they'll have her crying out please, sir and thank you, sir over and over every night.

johnny is soooo happy when you first start asking for things. finally, a chance for him to properly pamper you like he's been promising he would! and he and ghost aren't ever running out of money (dont ask me why just pretend) so he doesn't even really notice when he starts spending like thousands a week. only the best for his girl, yeah? simon notices immediately though. watches you go online and scroll to the most expensive option, text johnny the link without even looking at it for more than a second.

and at first you do it as a "might as well be comfortable in my captivity" thing but then you're like... if i spend all their money will they get rid of me? the answer is no but you don't know that and it can't hurt to try.

but you get a little... spoiled about it. and you feel justified! if these psychos are going to keep you captive, the very fucking least they can do is buy you nice shit. you start getting pissy and offended if they don't want to get you something. a gucci purse is too much to ask for? you don't care that you don't go out so you don't have anywhere to take it, it's the principle of the thing!
