I think it’s really funny if no one told Steve that Will didn’t actually die and that the body in the lake wasn’t him because then Steve is running with the belief that Will legitimately came back from the dead. So when he goes to Dustin’s house to help him get ready for Snowball and he sees a picture of Mews, and then sees a cat that looks exactly like her with a similar enough name that he can’t hear the difference over the constant ringing in his ears, he doesn’t this it’s a new cat. The thinks Mews came back from the dead and Dustin has a zombie cat.

Steve never had too much experience with household pets. Dogs, cats, fish, Guinea pigs, his parents didn’t like any of them in their home. As such, Steve grew up in a petless home without any knowledge of how to care for them (Hell, he could hardly take care of himself).

But as soon as Dustin needed someone to babysit his cat while he and his mom visited family out of state, Steve offered his help. He might not necessarily know how to take care of Mews #2 but how hard could it be? It couldn’t be worse than babysitting 4-5 preteens while Hell ran down on them… right?

Wrong. Mews #2 was not a fan of his and she made it known. She screamed at the foot of the couch as he slept, she bit him whenever he tried to put her food down, and she scratched at his arms whenever he tried to move her away from his things. The cat hated him and he didn’t know why!

If he showed up to Eddie’s trailer two days into the ten day trip with Mews struggling in his arms and tears in his eyes begging for help, well that was no one’s business but his own and Eddie’s.
