there is a sadness that permeates ofmd s2. it feels post apocalyptic in an uncomfortably real way. there are a lot of beautiful, painful moments. it reminds me of my early 20s and the friends i had, who eventually moved or drifted away.

like, there was a golden time when things are simple and you were there but you missed it. you didnt stop and appreciate it. or maybe it was never that simple, and it's just the nostalgia making you feel that way. but youre different now or maybe youre the same but everyone else is different, and youve all been through so much, youve lost people and youve hurt each other in ways that were casual and careless but caused ripples that shifted things in a frustratingly, achingly imperceptible way you dont even know how to fix. and now you have new people, and maybe some of the same people, and you keep trying but you cant recapture those golden moments of the past because it was lightening in a bottle. so you just have to keep going and in five years you'll look back at this moment right now and think, man. those were the good times. and everything is different now.

Funny story, I do have a backstory for the guy in mind! A good one actually, I was going to make a comic for the backstory but I have no clue how to make it look visually? And I am also not sure if I am going to have the energy for it with everything else going on whoops, I might just type it out in text form by the end of the week to save my strength for everything else I need to draw aha...

But back to your first question, yes, they are intertwined! Very much so actually! The goop has a lot to do with the Krang and their similar trap!

As for your second ask here, nope! Well, yes and no? Hamatos are involved in the backstory but not involved in the freeing half- Anyways though, after that last update and the potential of some later nightmare sequences, that will be the last you see of the guy until the finale! In other words, not really any more lore for him! Again I have a backstory just not much energy to actually draw it! And by this point in time, the backstory is not even really spoilery, its just neat worldbuilding at this point :)

He thrived in this newfound worldly chaos for years until about 5 years before Medium Leo got sent back, where he ended up leaving the home base they set up with his mother, to explore what was left of the world before that was gone too. This was due to just some good deja vu but well, younger turtles, Medium Leo never stopped looking more and more like someone who would never come back so-

"My favourite character was Jiho tbh. I drew Jiho as the 'dark side of PTJ', so I expressed my inferiority, sadness, shame and all the thoughts that I couldn't speak up to others through Jiho. Basically my inner self. I originally had Jiho's own story ahead and his backstory, but the main story had so many big turns. Which is why Jiho's role kinda disappeared. He was the antithesis of Daniel Park. I can't really write them out because he is dead. Anyways, he had a definite role and clear situations in the story, but as I was writing the story I started to have another storyline and ending in my mind, making Jiho a little uncertain. I might be the saddest one to feel about Jiho's death. To conclude, he wasn't the type of guy to die in that way, he shouldn't have died like that. Readers were asking if Jiho is going to resurrect… but no, he is not going to. But 'this' guy is going to resurrect. He is going to resurrect in the most bs way possible. There is a character that is going to resurrect in Lookism. Jiho got a lot of hate when he made an appearence. I always felt sad about it but at the same time I liked it because I knew I wrote this character well. Jiho is like an inner self of everybody at least to a certain extent."

"Juvenile prison arc was the arc where I was so greedy about it. Tbh, there were a lot of things that weren't available for the Lookism age limit. Readers only saw 60% of what I wrote. It is actually very dark and full of speechless stuff, I knew Naver would ask me to edit it. But I just drew. I even drew the panels that I knew that would not be available to readers with all I got… because I was hoping if Naver would allow them. But they rejected them as I expected. Jiho actually got raped by Darius. I drew it to show that it is a very terrifying thing, but there were a lot of changes in the end. From removed dialogues to panels… a lot of edited panels. The Darius dialogue 'I will come back later' before Jiho's one when he fought got edited too. When Jiho said 'I made sure I washed motherfucker'. Darius's lone was originally 'I will come back after I wish'. That is why Jiho went for a revenge match against him, where Jiho's mindset of actually killing someone was fully completed. Jiho says 'I made sure I washed motherfucker' after seeing his lowest point of himself and his misery. It didn't really manage to connect with Darius's previous dialogue. The dialogue 'I made sure I washed motherfucker' is for Jiho to say to Darius, but I put a meaning of where Jiho washed his old self away. But I think not a lot of reader noticed it."

Although the translation seems a bit messy, there's a lot to unpack here. This is a very interesting piece from PTJ's writing.

The parallel between Jiho and Daniel has always been there. It's more obvious some times than others. Both of them suffered a lot at the hands of others and both of them were offered "a light" (a positive situation to make things better), but the main difference is: Daniel managed to hold onto it, Jiho didn't.

Daniel's insecurities are, most of the time, internalized. The one time he lashed out at his mother, it stuck with him and made him value her more than anything in the world. It's easy to like and relate to him, because he's the palatable side of trauma-related issues.

Jiho isn't. He always takes the worst decisions possible, he lashes out at his parents and friends, he acts selfishly many times. Even after attempting to murder one of his closest friends, he's desperately thinking of a way out for himself, not the guy in a coma. His arcs are frustrating to read through at first, because his worldview is so distorted and his actions are hard to digest.

And at the same time, it's clear Jiho really hates himself. From start to finish. But he spirals and never stops; even at his last appearance, he can't acknowledge that Daniel took better decisions (and ultimately is "a better person" in the world's eyes) and boils it down to him "being luckier".

So, he's easy to hate. Even if you relate to some of his attitudes, you might end up disliking Jiho, because deep inside you know those are wrong.

However, there's a deeper reason for that.

(Other than us being conditioned into empathizing with people who match Daniel's profile of mental illness and trauma and casting those like Jiho aside.)

And the reason is: people don't like seeing the ugly side of themselves on the screen. They don't like the senseless aggression, lashing out or other behavioural problems that are common in humans. Being unnatractive, being physically weak, being paranoid, taking bad decisions at every corner, misreading kindness, fucking up even the purest of relationships, those are all very human "flaws" that might not be easy to fix. Jiho checks all of those items.

That's the same reason so many people hate on Shinji Ikari from Neon Genesis Evangelion. Both of these characters are traumatized and abused, but the audience frequently turns to the "pathetic" or "insufferable" aspects of their personalities.

Anyways, this was a short analysis I needed to do after seeing this post. Good night 💜

oh this is interesting because a lot of things in warriors are dark if you think about the implications but in the text aren’t really presented as anything more than lore or a cool moment. like tigerstar I’s death or the (apparently retconned????) lore of spirits fading with living cats memories and the ghostly spectres of leaders lost lives before the fully die (that STUCK with me man. like this ghostly firestar wandering starclan unable to communicate until his living form fully dies? fucked up.)

tigerstar forcing the half clan cats to fight to the death as a spectacle in front of an audience

mapleshade’s kits drowning and her begging to be let into riverclan only to be turned away under threat of violence

brokenstar training kits to be apprentices way to early and brutally to the point many of them die and then blaming yellowfang for it and having her chased out of shadowclan

sootfur’s death man. sootfur’s death. #1 saddest and most terrifying death in the series for me. it gets worse when you realise his mum also died to badgers.

firestar’s life lost in the fox trap and hawkfrost’s ensuing death. that whole scene of firestar being powerless and choking to death on his own blood. yeah.

rock’s curse. being forced to live forever with all the knowledge in the universe of all the terrible things that will happen in the future, but powerless to stop any. fatalism in the warriors universe in general tbh. poor goosefeather.

I only read up to the last hope and all supplementary content released before and a little after however! so if anyone wants to add moments i forgot or didn’t add please go for it.

30 Day DR Challenge Except I’m Doing In one Go Because Yea

1. I like a ton of characters but I’d probably go with Shuichi or Himiko✩₊˚.⋆☾⋆⁺₊✧

2. Monokid.

3. Hiyoko, 100%. >:3

4. Kazuichi.

5. Hajime, I would’ve said Shuichi but I think I like Hajime more as a Protagonist.

6. Probably Nagito, he’s not my all time fav character but he’s the best Antagonist in my opinion.

7. THESE TWO-

8. Any ship with TeruTeru or Mikan x Junko.

9. Hajime & Kazuichi because yes.

10. Shuichi x Himiko!

11. Taka x Mondo and ik a lot of people say they like this ship but idc, they’re so sweet-

12. Probably Maki x Kaede. They seem pretty cute ^^

13. Danganronpa 2 for sure-

16. Again it’s gotta be between Shuichi & Himiko. I can’t really pick just one of them.

18. I would love to have Chiakis talent, she cool.

19. Kaede’s Execution “Der Flohwalzer”, I found it not only extremely cool with its scenery but it was a big shock to me when she turned out to be the Blackened as well.

20. My fav soundtrack has gotta be from DR2, I like a lot of DRV3’s Execution tracks but I like pretty much all of DR2’s music.

21. Hiyoko because I would have originally said Mukuro, but DR IF is a good showcase of how it could’ve went if she lived. Hiyoko tho was killed just because and just- it’s bull.

22. The saddest death for me probably was Chiaki’s in DR2. Amazing music tho

23. Aiko Umesawa from DR3, she didn’t deserve what happened to her.

24. Kaito, no real reason tho. It’d just be cool lol

25. Probably Leon. Dude wasn’t physically weak but his whole plan was.

26. Any of the Monokubs. While Monodam and Monotaro are a little likable in my opinion, they all are boring and pretty annoying.

27. Fuyuhiko I think. I really liked his character arch tbh

28. In my opinion, Hiyoko. Not in just DR2 but DR3 as well, prior and after becoming part of the Remnants of Despair.

29. The strongest character in my opinion would have to be Shuichi, dude went through hell and back, not to mention also learned that he wasn’t real yet still managed to go on.

30. A mix of Himiko & Shuichi if I’m honest.
