Not touching the original post HAHSHFHGJG but omg y'all need to learn to be normal about gen z this is embarrassing
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i'm begging people online to talk to actual 20ish year olds and not make assumptions based on your tiktok user niece that you see once a year at family gatherings and crap.
We are not children. we are adults in college and grad school and shit (median age in my MA is about 23) and most of us in fact know how to use laptops, word processors, folders and basic software........... Almost every entry level office job (which we are holding down and applying to to be able to afford grad school!!!!!!!) requires microsoft office skills (excel etc) so it's laughable to make claims like this with zero non-anecdotal evidence
This keeps happening in posts about gen z doing this and that and I'm fucking tired!!!! I stg being born in 1994 doesnt make you smarter or more tech literate than younger generations it just makes you (at least some ppl) smug and annoying apparently!!!!!!!!

More Harvey Headcanons! 🎧🍷✈️
people seemed to like the last set I wrote so here's some more!
I think of Harvey as being a pretty quirky guy, especially once you get to know him. In my mind, I think he’s eerily similar to Dale Cooper in Twin Peaks (shared coffee addiction too, c’mon).
Harvey has a genuine interest in vintage fashion. Not the juicy couture sweatsuits and low-rise jeans “vintage” that the kiddos are talking about on TikTok (though that would actually be kinda funny), I’m talking how men dressed in the 1920s-1950s type vintage. I think he gets it from his fascination for history, though he’s a little too scared to actually dress that way.
He takes grooming very seriously- he likely has more shower products than his partner! He always keeps his hair and mustache trimmed neatly and takes pride in being a skincare addict. Seriously, you’ll catch this man reapplying his sunscreen every few hours (and he’ll encourage his partner to as well).
Harvey usually drinks his coffee black but has a sweet spot for the seasonal flavors that come out around fall/winter time. He loves pumpkin spice lattes, as long as they’re from a smaller cafe that uses high quality beans!
If you give him bread and butter pickles he won’t trust you. He thinks they’re a disgrace.
Harvey listens to lo-fi beats playlists on YouTube sometimes while he works. Maru introduced him to them and they both agree that they make pleasant background noise.
Speaking of noise, he cannot for the life of him sleep with a TV on. He’s a very light sleeper and the commercials tend to jolt him out of his slumber.
Harvey’s not usually a beer drinker, but he does enjoy a good stout every now and then (for anyone that’s never had one or isn’t old enough to have one 👀 they kind of taste like coffee)!
He owns a million books that he’s never read but is constantly buying more. New books are his weakness- it’s the one impulse that he can’t say no to (try to keep him from going to his favorite bookstores, I dare you).
I don’t think Harvey is a fan of playing video games, but sooner or later he figures out about Microsoft flight simulator and becomes completely obsessed with it!
okay, all done for now! if anyone wants me to write more (or potentially some for a different sdv character) let me know? this is actually pretty fun (and it’s helping me with ideas for my fic)!

Do you hear specific voices in your head for each of your characters? Like what voice actors would you cast if you could give them voices?
Surprisingly no. Might just be because I don’t know a lot of VAs by name. But I might hear something and be like “oh my character would sound like this!” And then immediately forget. So I unfortunately don’t have any like “OC VA headcanons” or anything.
My robot character 404 definitely talks with randomized text to speech voices including Microsoft Sam and that one TikTok default voice.

I have zero contractual obligation to do this, but I’m doing this anyways because I think it’s genuinely a really cool app, especially for note-takers (both for professional, school, and personal usage).
EVERNOTE BABY (it also has a desktop version!!!)
Tumblr media
I was watching TikTok before it gets banned, as one does, and I came across a video of someone talking about the whole issue with Google Docs issuing the stuff you write in a doc to train AI.
I don’t know what compelled me, but I went into the comment section to see what others had to say, and saw someone recommend Evernote for- not only keeping track of notes for stories, but also being able to add media and other stuff pretty easily (I’ve only used the note-writing bit since I’ve got it [2 days ago], so idk how that part works just yet).
Tumblr media
The home page of Evernote is really nicely structured imo. You have notes at the top, and everything else at the bottom. There’s other options to add as well in settings, it’s not limited to just those three, but that’s all I personally see a use for with what I’m using the app for.
Tumblr media
Now time to show off the cool shit this app can do in the notes section because that’s what I mainly use this app for, using an example from the character notes for the FNF au!
The larger and bolder text is done similarly to Microsoft Word and Google Docs, where there’s a bar above the keyboard that has all the text options.
You can bold, italics, underline, strike through, change text size, create a bulleted list(or a numbered/lettered one if you prefer that), you can indent your shit so that you can now format text to school standards (how every English paper demands an indent with a new paragraph 😒), and more.
That little grey bar separating Nene from Darnell, and Darnell for DD, is done by putting three asterisks (***) OR three equals (===) on a line and then starting a new line. The app will automatically turn it into that kickass grey bar!
There is (sadly, imo) an option to use AI to “clean up” your notes/text. If you don’t want it, don’t use it. I’d prefer if they didn’t have AI in the app all together, but, to me, it’s really the only downside to this app. And- in their defense- as far as I know, they aren’t using it to steal your data or train AI like Google is.
So, once again, not a contractual obligation, but I do genuinely like this app literally in just the two-ish days I’ve used it so much that I’m literally actually planning on moving all my notes regarding my stories to it.
I think I’ll still keep actually writing my stories on the built-in notes app, but that’s mainly because the format I write in is so I can easily keep track of what I need to italicize or not, and using the built-in functions of Evernote for that will make transferring it to ao3 so much more difficult imo.
So, I’ll personally keep the stories to the notes app, but transfer the actual notes to Evernote because it’s formatted better :>

This is the SECOND post of this type that i've seen drawing a direct line between the tiktok ban (an aggregious attempt by the authoritarian goverment in the US to control information) and (((Israel))) because of fucking course anytime news is being controlled its somehow the jews fucking fault but its by far the more insulting of the two posts
Tumblr media
Because it literally has a republican representative saying the reasons they're trying to ban it (limiting their own citizens access to non state controlled media sources) and yet its STILL somehow the jews fault.
Even though they've been talking about banning it for YEARS now, long before the october 7th retaliatory strike. They wanted to ban it when it was chinese owned because of the wild sinephobia in the US and microsoft buying it only placated them for so long.
But despite the fact they've wanted to ban it for longer than the average US citizen has been paying attention to the genocide being comitted in israel, combined with the fact that a senator fucking SAID they were trying to take it down because they wanted to control their citizens news access. Its still a magical cabal of jews who are controlling the news. I just hope the US EPA doesn't decide to remove drinking water standards or leftists on tumblr are going to start accusing us of poisoning the village wells again.

Dumbest Thing I've Ever Heard: 7/26/2023
Fifth Place: Elon Musk
Remember Elon's rather confusing move to change Twitter to "X"? Well Mediaite reports today that "There Is a ‘100 Percent Chance’ Twitter Will Be Sued Over New X Branding, According to Trademark Expert." You see, it turns out that nine thundered different companies use the "X" on their brand in some form or another, including both Microsoft and Meta. Meaning Elon not only decided to change one of the most highly recognizable logos on the internet to something present on my keyboard, but he also did so in such a way where he could get sued because it turns out everyone else had that same idea.
You know, there's a lot of speculation that Elon bought Twitter specifically to run it into the ground, I'm not going to say I believe it--some rich people are just crazy (Google Marville sometime if you want evidence of that)--but I see why so many people believe it.
Fourth Place: Ben Shapiro
I talked about Greg Gutfeld yesterday, whose comments have been condemned by other staff at Fox News, a Holocaust survivor, and the White House since yesterday's post. However, one person was perfectly willing to defend what Greg said, Ben Shapiro:
No one said there was anything good about slavery or the Holocaust. They said that resilient human beings sometimes are capable of making the best of their horrific situations. Which, of course, is true. That, of course, is true. That's the story of the heroism of the slaves making the best of one of the world's worst situations in human history. Same thing with Holocaust survivors. Like, trying to survive, trying to cultivate a skill set while undergoing the worst horrors a human being can imagine. But, of course, they have to lie. They have to lie.
Here's the problem: That's not what Gutfeld said. He didn't say that human beings used their already existing cleverness to survive this situation (although that would still be offensive due to the implication that those who died were somehow just less intelligent than those who did not) but that this gave them the chance to learn new skills which helped them in life.
And by the way Ben, you yourself say you have family members who died in the Holocaust. Are you telling me they just weren't clever enough and that's why they died? In that case, fuck you.
Third Place: Matteo Cina
Media Matters gave Ben Shapiro sometimes new to defend tomorrow with their reporting today "Fox News staffer: 'It is hard to talk about the Holocaust and rising anti semitism without discussing Jewish presence in banking.'" Specifically, the article takes aim at things the assistant for Fox News Digital and former writer for Texas Governor Greg Abbot has previously written on TikTok.
Tumblr media
This is just nonsense: Antisemitism in Europe in the twentieth century had nothing to do with the amount of Jews who controlled the banks or whatever, it had to do with the longstanding tradition of that same bigotry which existed in Europe since its inception, largely due to the belief that the Jews were responsible for the death of Jesus. The fact is, what this man said could only be seen as apologetics for antisemitism and it should be condemned by everybody who sees it.
Second Place: Glenn Beck
I think this headline from The Daily Beast sums up this situation perfectly: "Glenn Beck Demands Target, a Store He's Actively Boycotting, Sell His Book."
First Place: Ron DeSantis
Remember that ad a member of a DeSantis campaign retweeted with the fascist symbol on screen? It turns out a member of the DeSantis campaign also made the ad in the first place, said person being Nate Hochman who is also a contributor to National Review and a fellow at the Claremont Institute.
I talked yesterday about how DeSantis seems to be using the same platform as other second place religious right zealots, but I want to point out that he is the only person running a campaign with this problem. No other campaign--from either side of the isle--has had this many issues with fascists entering and spreading their views on the same level Ron has. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was beaten up by the media--rightfully so--for one antisemitic comment, but DeSantis's constant fascist problem is seemingly being ignored. This is, hands down, the friendliest Presidential campaign to fascists I've ever seen, and I think that anybody has ever seen if you look at post-World War Two American history and exclude openly fascist parties. Trent Lott was forced out of his role of Senate Majority Leader for praising his segregationist friend Strom Thurmond just two decades ago, now we have people running for President using openly fascist symbols and nobody seems to notice.
Ron DeSantis, you've done the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

i consider myself a fantasy writer, but whenever i talk w/ other fantasy writers i realize that i am writing a very different type of fantasy than most others.
other fantasy writers share their worlds that they've spent the past 5 years obsessing over and share all of their deep lore and amazing characters like "this is sera, short for seraphim, as she is the leading angel in the order of talaria's battle sector. she is a ruthless warrior that has to come to terms with the fact that she has been fighting on the wrong side and reckon with all of the lives she has ruined and ended"
and im like "this is artie, short for arthur. he's from arizona and they're a popular fnaf cosplayer/crossdresser on tiktok and a twitch streamer known for holding the current speedrun record for microsoft minesweeper. she's also The Chosen One."

Google Workspace Labs AI
Preface: I've never really been great at summarizing things, so if you want this information in a way that is just better communicated overall I recommend just watching the TikToks I'm referring to (linked below). Which you can do without making an account for all the TikTok-antis who may come across this.
For real, I'm not adding anything to the conversation and the videos are a combined 10 minutes long.
TikTok 1: Explains new Google Workspace Labs AI beta and brings to light potential concerns in relation to user privacy and intellectual property.
TikTok 2: Relates information in TikTok 1 to the writers strike and explains how your data stored in Google Drive can potentially be used in the production of AI generated movies, TV shows, etc. Also, provides a plan of action to help mitigate harm.
TikTok 1
Rebecca Thorne had posted a TikTok under the user woppydoesthings explaining the terms and conditions of Google Workspace Labs AI feature (linked here). She expresses concerns that because the AI feature is fully integrated, user input collected is the full document of whatever Workspace product you are using. Within the terms and conditions, it is stated that, "labs data, as described above, is stored in a manner that is not associated with your Google account and will be retained for 18 months," which to her understanding means is Google is taking and using information from the user's work without crediting the user. Her primary concern is that, in the future, Google will fully integrate the AI feature in a way that makes it difficult for the user to opt out of, and that users will have their intellectual property stolen as a result of this.
TikTok 2
TikTok user b0rtney (Brittney Hart) had posted a TikTok in response to TikTok 1 explaining that it is likely that Google has obtained or has plans to obtain a production company, and they will be creating a streaming company that will produce AI generated movies and shows using the AI developed from the Workspace feature. Likely without informing the viewer that the shows are AI generated, and ultimately, stealing from its users without any kind of compensation. She encourages the people watching to:
Store all files they have in their Google Drive(s) to a flash drive or on their computer locally, and then delete everything from the Google Drive. This is to prevent Google from having access to any user input to develop their AI with.
Refrain from consuming any kind of media created by Google in the future. This includes movies, shows, books, music, etc. *Bootleg if you have to but don't pay for it.
Stop using Google and Google features wherever possible. She mentions using Libre Office (a free Microsoft office clone) instead of Google Docs.
Switching your **default browser to something else. Less people using the Google search engine, the less traffic ads will get, which means Google will have to lower the cost of ad space.
"Make Google Cringe" Make people embarrassed with the idea of using google. It is important that you don't try to make them feel bad about using it otherwise they'll get defensive. Example: "Oh, you use Google? Huh, I mean there's nothing wrong with it, just, I wouldn't use it personally."
TELL YOUR FRIENDS! Spread the word. Get as many people from as many different communities doing this and talking about this. If it is too niche it can be construed to be leftist propaganda or something along those lines.
If you need some suggestions on how to further remove Google from your life, Brittney has a playlist on her TikTok account (b0tney) titled Google is Cringe with some. If you have some suggestions of your own feel free to leave them in the replies or the tags or something.
Even if you took the time to read all this, I still recommend watching the original videos because I may have missed or misinterpreted something. Primary sources are important. If you have any suggestions on what tags I could use to better spread the word feel free to leave them.
*She doesn't state this in the video, but just to be clear, this is in reference to media produced by Google not to individuals/companies using Google products as a means to distribute their own works. Example: Authors using Google Books to distribute the books they've written.
**A browser she mentions, that I had personally never heard of before, is Ecosia. Ecosia is a non-profit organization with a mission to plant and protect trees. It is my current default browser and works fine. You can also make it your default browser on your phone.

You Studied Computer Science But Big Tech No Longer Wants You. Now What?
Students at the Bay Area’s best universities once dreamed of working for Apple, Google and Meta. Then the lay-offs happened
— 1843 Magazine | May 15th, 2023 | By Charlie McCann
Tumblr media
Armed with a stack of cvs still warm from the printer, Ayara (a pseudonym) plunged into the career fair. The room was already packed with job-seekers. The second-year student wasn’t expecting much. In past years, a computer-science student at the University of California, Berkeley, could hope to emerge from this campus ritual with an interesting summer internship, possibly at a “faang” company – the acronym for Facebook (now Meta), Apple, Amazon, Netflix and Google. Ayara’s best friend had snagged an internship at Apple at a fair like this one.
But none of the faang firms was here this time. Neither were Spotify, Salesforce, Uber or Microsoft. In any case most of those companies and almost 50 others – “all the famous ones” – had already rejected her internship applications a few months earlier. And that was before the latest round of job lay-offs. There were 120,000 tech lay-offs in January and February alone; Alphabet, Google’s parent company, accounted for 10% of those lost jobs. (Meta would announce another 10,000 lay-offs shortly after the fair.) By the time the fair came round in March, Ayara had scaled back her ambitions. “Any company that will hire me is good, at this point,” she told me later.
By the time the fair came round, Ayara had drastically reduced her ambitions. “Any company that will hire me is good, at this point”
Ayara muscled her way to a crowded stall towards the back, where Juniper Networks was holding court. Founded in 1996 – long before most college students were born – Juniper is a workhorse of Silicon Valley: it makes a decent share of the hardware underpinning the internet, and software that controls that hardware. It has none of the “sparkle” (one of Ayara’s favourite words) of a faang company – its talent-acquisition manager told me that students often haven’t heard of it. Yet at this fair it had one irresistible selling point: it was still hiring interns.
Ayara caught the eye of a Juniper recruiter and they started talking. The fair was a bit like a cocktail party – the polite smiles, the hard sell – except without alcohol to quell people’s nerves. Some students were tapping their thighs or pinching the skin on their hands. Ayara put on a good show of appearing relaxed. As the recruiter scanned her résumé, she peppily described some of the highlights: interning at a subsidiary of Zipcar, a car-rental company; introducing emoji reactions within a messaging feature at PlayStation.
Tumblr media
“Looks like you’ve worked for some big companies,” the recruiter said approvingly. “So why are you interested in Juniper? Do you know something about our company or just exploring?”
“I’m looking for a summer internship,” she said, gently dodging the question.
The recruiter, who wore a Berkeley alum badge on his t-shirt, nodded politely. He explained that a primary focus of the company is network security. “Are you interested in security?”
“Yeah,” she said tentatively, in the voice of somebody who had never considered pursuing a career as unglamorous – as unsparkly! – as security. After the fair, she submitted an application to Juniper. Weeks later, she had yet to receive a response.
It is not the ideal moment to enter the tech job market. For years the tech industry has paired huge profits with massive investments in expansion. Intoxicated by its own success during the pandemic, big tech binged on new recruits: Meta doubled its headcount over a short span. Now the good times are over. The tech giants have encountered stiffer competition (like TikTok) and tougher economic conditions, including manufacturing shortages and high interest rates. Pushed by investors to embrace unfamiliar concepts like “fiscal responsibility” and “long-term growth”, the industry has, over the past year and a half, shed some 300,000 workers, the most since the dot-com crash two decades ago. Amazon and Meta have rescinded job offers.
The effects are being felt in campuses all over the country. At Berkeley, would-be interns had formed a queue outside the career fair before its doors even opened. A few especially keen students wore suits and ties (a rare sight on campus where hoodies are de rigueur).
Tumblr media
Even if they succeed in snagging an internship, their position is precarious. Some computer-science majors have had their internships cancelled; those with job offers have had their start dates pushed back, according to Sue Harbour, the executive director of the college career centre. They are the lucky ones. Several students told me that they had applied for jobs and internships at hundreds of companies with no offers to show for their efforts. When I introduced myself to a sophomore, who was majoring in electrical engineering and computer science, he asked, “Is The Economist hiring?” He was joking. Sort of.
More than 60 companies had set up stalls at the fair, ranging from government agencies and financial institutions to niche tech startups and, surprisingly, a spa. The biggest tech name there was sap, a European software giant. The absence of the most famous names in tech probably gave a boost to the less flashy suitors at the ball. “We get passed by a lot at this table,” a recruiter from a local public-transport agency told me; she managed to draw a smattering of enquirers. Firms that had suddenly become rock stars included Bank of America, and a startup making self-driving trucks. Students often haven’t heard of Juniper, said Benjamin Chen, a talent-acquisition manager whom I found setting up his stall, because “we work behind the scenes”. He’s often greeted by students who gamely open with, “Oh tell me about Jupiter,” Chen said, laughing.
Big tech binged on new recruits: Meta doubled their headcount over a short span. Now the good times are over
These companies have an appeal beyond simply being all that’s on offer. The quality that student job-seekers prize most in a company now is stability, according to a recent survey conducted by Handshake, a recruitment startup. Chen says he too has noticed a shift “towards a company that’s more stable and more predictable rather than something a little bit more, I guess, risky.”
This is a big adjustment in the culture of computer-science students at Berkeley. The large firms used to be imbued with an almost magical allure: no other companies were seen as worth working for. “The name is important because with the name comes recognition of your skills or your work,” Ayara told me. People say, “Oh, this person worked there.”
Tumblr media
Some of this yearning comes from a sense of competitiveness and one-upmanship, driven by social media. Berkeley students had already gone through what one described as a “very stab-in-the-back” selection process to get on the computer-science course. Students who have secured jobs and internships crow about their success on LinkedIn, said Ayara.
The high salaries and gourmet food of the big tech firms were also part of the appeal. So are the sprawling campuses, which resemble “a playground”, said Vicky Li, a 21-year-old Berkeley graduate. Several students told me that big tech internships are far from demanding. Li has heard that interns at Google, for example, “get paid a ton” even though they work just two hours a day. (I asked Google about this and was told, “We do not accommodate part-time internships.”)
But students are now starting to wonder if they were seeing these big tech firms straight.
Li thinks she “romanticised” faang companies. She has started to see the perks they offered as gimmicks. Now she describes herself as “a little bit more anti-corporation”. She had realised she didn’t want to work in big tech before the lay-offs and is relieved she didn’t get sucked into it. She hopes to work as a product designer at a small company, ideally a startup, where she can get “solid experience rather than just chasing a bigger name”.
At the Juniper stall I met Arthur Kang, a Berkeley senior who had spurned offers from famous companies in favour of a job with a less glamorous firm this summer. Juniper offered him the opportunity to create something new rather than being a cog in the machine, he explained. His friends are puzzled by his decision, but he’s confident it was the right call. “Stability”, he told me, “includes not being fired right away.” ■

overseas advertising and marketing will undergo “three major changes”
Tumblr media
After talking about being “under HE Tuber pressure” for too long, the global advertising industry finally saw exciting changes this year.
The first is that the market recovery has brought about significant business improvements.
Domestically, the vast majority of Internet companies achieved year-on-year growth in their advertising business in the second quarter of this year. Three BAT companies returned to double-digit growth, and Pinduoduo’s advertising revenue growth even reached 50%. The same is true overseas. In the second quarter, Google's advertising revenue finally returned to growth after declining for two consecutive quarters. The advertising revenue of Amazon and Meta were also higher than analysts' expectations.
Secondly, the advertising industry has also seen more innovative breakthroughs this year.
Domestically, both Baidu and Alimama have announced the full commercialization of AI, with updates and upgrades in advertising technology, applications and solutions. Juju Engine has also launched AI-based live broadcast script generation and intelligent film production tools; while Tencent is accelerating the completion of multiple commercialization capabilities for video accounts and Xiaohongshu for live broadcasts; Kuaishou Magnetic Engine is improving traffic capacity, efficiency and New products and tools have been launched in the three aspects of productization; Bilibili and Zhihu are also working hard to build commercialization capabilities based on their own characteristics.
Overseas, major Internet giants have invariably used AI to innovate advertising - Google, Amazon and Meta's intelligently generated advertising material products based on AI have covered a variety of content forms such as graphics, text and video, and Microsoft and Snap have launched chatGPT-like conversation categories. We are trying to add advertising links to our products.
But in addition to being excited about new technologies, we have also seen the ups and downs of overseas marketing - Twitter lost a large number of advertisers after changing its name; Meta announced that Reels' annual revenue has reached tens of billions; Google's privacy sandbox has finally been implemented, and the industry A new round of controversy has arisen; Pinterest and Amazon join hands to tell the story of "planting and pulling grass together"; TikTok is "grasping both hands", making frequent moves in both marketing and e-commerce business...
The media habits of overseas consumers, mainstream media types, and business operation methods are all significantly different from those in China, which will be directly reflected in advertising products and business. Judging from these developments this year, it seems that it has also brought inspiration to the country. What exactly are they doing? What are the differentiated layouts? What are its action routes and directions?
It goes without saying how hot AI is this year. Overseas giants with large models in their hands are moving very fast. Nowadays, many new advertising products and tools based on AI have been put into practice. Overall, they include three major categories: advertising content generation, bots, and advertising automation upgrades. .
Focusing on the intelligent generation of content is natural, because the core of generative AI is to learn from existing data to generate new original content or products. At present, almost all major overseas companies such as Google, Amazon, and Meta have related products or tools. The main function is to use generative AI to generate various forms of content such as text, images, 3D, and videos to help creative advertising producers optimize Create and improve efficiency.
For example, Google's Product Studio allows merchants to design the overall background of pictures for product materials; when AI creative guidance is used in YouTube, it can help merchants determine the more appropriate brand logo, advertising duration, and aspect ratio. One of Amazon's AI tools allows sellers to simply enter product information and automatically generate appropriate advertising copy.
In comparison, giants at home and abroad have both similarities and different ideas in AI intelligent generation of advertising content: Similarity is that merchants now only need the most basic product information and materials to generate advertising copy and content. materials, significantly lowering the threshold. The difference is that China is more looking forward to using new technologies to directly generate commercial advertisements, and preferably one-click placement. However, overseas companies place more emphasis on advertising creativity, so they use AI to assist and optimize image and video generation.
ChatGPT has attracted much attention, making the product form of conversational chat bot the first to be widely implemented.
When used in business, developers mainly insert advertisers' marketing information into users' conversations. Microsoft's New Bing, Google's Brad and Snap's My AI all fall into this category, and both Microsoft and Snap have made it clear that they have included advertising links.
Taking New Bing as an example, users will see brand-related links in the text of the chat answer, and more will be displayed when you hover the mouse over the link. At the same time, users will also see the "Learn More" option below the chat results, which is also the entrance to guide users to see more brand-related information. Snap's My AI is similar, for example when users ask where to go for dinner, it will provide links sponsored by local restaurants or food delivery apps.
There is currently no similar product launched in China, and it is too early for this product to be widely used overseas: on the one hand, compared with mature search engines, this new product makes the time and location of advertisements uncontrollable, and The public has not yet used it frequently, so advertisers are still cautious. On the other hand, users instinctively want to avoid ads, so when Snap’s My AI announced that it would test advertising, many users expressed dissatisfaction on social media.

Advertising automation applies AI capabilities more extensively, mainly allowing AI to play a role in budget optimization, delivery process, data attribution and other aspects, improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the entire advertising process.
The Performance Max plan proposed by Google in 2020 is a typical case. This is a new goal-oriented advertising product with many innovative and upgraded functions. For example, with cross-channel advertising, advertisers only need to create one ad and it can be placed on all Google channels such as YouTube, search, Discover, Gmail and Maps. For another example, advertisers can select goals such as sales, potential customer acquisition, local store visits, and promotions at the same time, and almost all subsequent work can be completed intelligently by the system. Because of ad bidding, budget optimization, precise audience reach, ad attribution and monitoring, these machine learning models can more accurately predict and plan how to achieve the best results.
Various innovations based on AI are in full swing, and the once popular "metaverse marketing" seems to have become a thing of the past.
The advertising and marketing industry has been excited about the "Metaverse" throughout last year, and there are many ideas about it: including how to create a more immersive shopping experience in the virtual world, and whether brands can completely change the way they interact with consumers. methods, and even help brands create exclusive online spaces.
Among the technology giants, Facebook took the lead in renaming it Meta last year and putting its chips on the virtual universe concept. But the popularity comes and goes quickly. This year, the number of users of Meta’s virtual world application is still low. Overseas media also generally commented that “the market is not yet fully ready to accept the vision it depicts.” Naturally, brands and merchants have doubts about whether they can The use of it for advertising is still in a wait-and-see state.
How long it will be before people spend as much time in virtual environments as they do today on mobile devices remains unknown.
Meta cannot escape this year’s fate of following industry hot spots to tell the new story of AI. Zuckerberg also mentioned in this year’s second quarter earnings conference call, “We are riding two technology waves, artificial intelligence in the near future and artificial intelligence in the long term. "Metaverse", obviously AI is more important. At present, Meta has also launched AI Sandbox, which is mainly for intelligent content generation. However, Meta has a more ambitious goal. It has previously stated that it wants to understand what productive functions are effective for advertisers, and then absorb them all.

vimeo
The Wizard of AI from Open Data Institute on Vimeo.
Is this the world's first AI-generated documentary?
Alan Warburton was commissioned by the ODI's Data as Culture programme to bring us 'The Wizard of AI,' a 20-minute video essay about the cultural impacts of generative AI. It was produced over three weeks at the end of October 2023, one year after the release of the infamous Midjourney v4, which the artist treats as "gamechanger" for visual cultures and creative economies. According to the artist, the video itself is "99% AI" and was produced using generative AI tools like Midjourney, Stable Diffusion, Runway and Pika. Yet the artist is careful to temper the hype of these new tools, or as he says, to give in to the "wonder-panic" brought about by generative AI. Using creative workflows unthinkable before October 2023, he takes us on a colourful journey behind the curtain of AI - through Oz, pink slime, Kanye's 'Futch' and a deep sea dredge - to explain and critique the legal, aesthetic and ethical problems engendered by AI-automated platforms. Most importantly, he focusses on the real impacts this disruptive wave of technology continues to have on artists and designers around the world.
