How To - Tumblr Community Labels: Mobile Device
Hey Friends!
I decided to make a standalone instructional for Mobile Devices; hopefully, it will be less confusing this way.
Please don't steal my hard work or pictures, but absolutely REBLOG to help fellow Tumblrinas!
First, you will need to go to your own page by clicking on the *person* icon on your options bar:
Tumblr media
Next go to the *Settings* Icon:
Tumblr media
That should bring up these options:
Tumblr media
Click on ACCOUNT SETTINGS.
Once your Account pops up, the first thing you want to do is scroll down and check out your birthday settings!
*Fun fact! If you don't have your year set or if you are underage, Tumblr automatically blocks certain content.*
Tumblr media
Click on BIRTHDAY and make sure your birthday and YEAR are both correct.
Tumblr media
Once you've made sure your birthday and year are in there, keep scrolling!
You are looking for CONTENT YOU SEE.
Tumblr media
Once you click on it, you come to the COMMUNITY LABELS options:
Tumblr media
You need to click into each one of these categories to set them to your own preferences.
Tumblr media
Please read through these CAREFULLY! And choose what is best FOR YOU!
You are responsible for the content you want to see and read!
Now, unfortunately, there is no option to opt-out of the:
"Hide additional potentially mature content"
This is only available through a laptop or PC.
💻🖥️
Again, when going through these options, please choose what is best FOR YOU.
And remember! If you don't like the content you are seeing coming across your dashboard, you can always change your settings.
Please be responsible, choose wisely, and keep yourself and everyone else safe while rummaging through all the fantastic content on this Hellsite (affectionate).
As always, please reach out if you have questions or need assistance!💕
theLaundryBitch 💙💜
Love to you all!

Only answer if you want obviously- as far as I know the answers are anonymous!
I'm sorry if I missed a few, I have mainly walking/mobility aids in my mind as of the time making the post due to my own pain with walking.

Today's going to be a combination of stressful (union board nomination meeting- have to figure out how to politely decline if they try to put me up for secretary) and fun (hound night at the dog bar; gonna see some noodles and some wrinkly bois).

as a young person with chronic pain that may be fibro or cfs, you make me feel better about possibly needing more than just a cane. I have no mobility aids right now (my mom has told me that if I need to borrow my dad’s old cane - which he doesn’t use anymore - in order to walk, then I just shouldn’t go out), and what I really want is a rollator, but I feel like I need to compromise with my ableist parents by just asking for a cane. anyway, my point is, thank you for showing me that it’s ok for people with chronic pain to need more extensive mobility aids
That sucks anon. Please don't feel pressured to choose between staying home and forgoing using mobility aids. My parents were very unsupportive until I basically had to break down crying infront of them. My mom is still unsupportive but my dad just wants me to not be in pain. He paid for my wheelchair and supports me in my medical decisions. It might help to find a doctor who can help explain to your parents why you need a rollator and how it can help you (this will probably be difficult as most doctors I've talked to are very against young people using mobility devices unfortunately) but all you need is one doctor that's on your side. My first rheumatoid arthritis doctor laughed at me when I brought up the possibility of using a walker. My current doctor helped me get a handicapped permit. Honestly, just start using it and if your parents give you shit that's their issue. Idk how young you are so maybe be careful if you're still a minor. Either way, see if you can get a rollator from goodwill or craigslist. I got a pretty decent rollator for $40 from goodwill and I got my wheelchair for $80 from Craigslist. I had to buy parts for it but it still came out to under $200. If you don't see one right away keep an eye out cause there's new listings everyday. Some rollators fold up so you can keep it out of sight until you need it. Or be like me and just start using it and ignore your parents ableist complaining lmao
Never feel bad for doing anything that reduces your pain. It's not selfish and it's not lazy. Abled people can't imagine the shit we go through just to get through the day. I hope you're able to get a rollator!

it's kind of sad that the two really major companies making brain-computer interface devices are focusing on video games. disabled people could potentially use those for lots of more important activities....

HIMARS destroyed a modern Russian electronic warfare system - Technology Org
Electronic warfare systems do not fire shells, do not lay mines, do now launch missiles, but they can have devastating effects. Electronic warfare describes tools that basically work in the electromagnetic spectrum, jamming radio signals, disrupting communications, severing connections between unmanned systems and their operators and doing other dirty work. The Russian electronic warfare system RB-341B Leer-3 is an annoying thing like that and the defenders of Ukraine destroy them as soon as they find them.

The defenders of Ukraine managed to detect and destroy the Russian electronic warfare system RB-341B Leer-3. Ukrainian soldier Mykola Kolesnyk said that the valuable Russian system was spotted by drones of the 129th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade playfully called “Luftwaffe”. They determined the coordinates of the Leer-3 and tracked the device until the moment of destruction.
[embedded content]
It only took one HIMARS missile to send this Leer-3 into Hell. But not only the electronic warfare system itself was eliminated. “The target was destroyed together with the operators,” said Mykola Kolesnyk. The crews of such systems are also extremely valuable targets, because they are highly trained professionals and that’s a finite resource.
The Leer-3 is a modern Russian electronic warfare and radio reconnaissance system operating in the GSM range. The Leer-3 has been in production since 2015.
The Leer-3 is capable of many different tasks. This system can suppress cell phone networks within a radius of about 6 km, send jamming signals and misleading messages, locate signal sources, and much more. The Leer-3 can identify locations with a high density of mobile devices and mark them as potential targets, because, of course, soldiers usually have many mobile devices.
This system can also act as an information transfer module, helping different units to coordinate their efforts and surveillance information. The Leer-3 is a bit of an unusual electronic warfare system, because it normally works with Orlan-10 drones. The Leer-3 crew normally consists of 5 people. It is mounted on the KamAZ-5350 6×6 chassis, so it can accelerate to 120 km/h and get ready for work in just 30 minutes after arriving at the designated place.
Ukraine is putting a lot of effort into destroying Russian electronic warfare systems, because they help the Russian invaders coordinate work between units, suppress Ukrainian communications, monitor mobile device gathering places, and disrupt the work of drones. Large electronic warfare systems are few and far between as they are expensive and their achievements are harder to sell to the policy makers than the work of artillery or missile systems.

Here's my stupidest conversation today (thus far), I've been in the car with my brother and father for 6+ hours as we drive through multiple states. It is exhausting, we're all tired, then my brother starts talking.
My brother is entering this new school year and he's whining about how he "doesn't have what other people have" and he's disconnected from his friends because he doesn't have a phone, snapchat, etc.
The problem?
This moron has a phone, he just doesn't like using it. Idk why, I really don't. He's talking about feeling left out of his friends' conversations but-- How are they supposed to do that? They cant contact him!
This is such a BS problem. Like--social anxiety I COMPLETELY understand, but a communication barrier in a LITERAL sense?? NO! He's lucky enough to own a phone, he can download whatever apps he wants. He's just freaking out and doesn't seem to understand why a phone is an important device to be contactable by people.
Which is-- So weird, because he's constantly on his computer and on calls with people through discord. I don't see what the problem is, he's a child of the internet. Why? Why is he so against a mobile communication device??

MASK UP FOR GLOBAL LIBERATION
Protect your community by wearing N95s and KN95s when meeting indoors or in crowds! The more of us mask up, the less we get sick, the harder it is for police to surveil us, and the safer we make our shared spaces for our disabled and immuno-compromised comrades and loved ones.
Get started by finding local mask resources on the global COVID Action Map (you can also submit groups to be added). If you have the means, donate masks and tests to your local orgs and encourage accessibility so we can ALL join the fight (bringing in interpreters/translators and medics, ensuring accessibility for wheelchairs/mobility devices, offering child care, filtering the air indoors, setting up virtual options etc).
UPDATE: Download this 8.5"x11" poster for free on itch.io to print and distribute! Includes files suitable for color, black and white, and risograph printing. Any donations will go to printing costs, or buying masks for my local mutual aid groups.
Pandemics have no borders, and all our struggles are united!

Explosion proof mobile communication devices refer to a range of mobile communication devices, including smartphones, tablets, walkie-talkies, and others, that are designed to operate safely in hazardous environments where the risk of explosion due to flammable gases or dust is high. These devices are built to withstand extreme conditions and meet specific safety standards to ensure they do not ignite or cause explosions. The explosion-proof mobile communication devices market is driven by the increasing demand for reliable communication solutions in hazardous industries, such as oil and gas, chemical, mining, and others, where safety is of paramount importance. These devices are widely used in industries where workers need to communicate and exchange data in real-time while working in hazardous environments. They offer several benefits, such as improved safety, increased productivity, and efficient communication, and are essential for maintaining safe and efficient operations in hazardous environments.

That thing in early 2000s teen book series where there was always some excuse for why there was no technology aged really poorly considering the longevity many of them had. I read somewhere in elementary school that not including references to specific tech was a way to make your story timeless, but the incredibly conspicuous lack of instant communication only gets more obvious.
I just think this is such a funny trend in retrospect. Like all writers for teens just decided they werent going to worry about this whole cell phone thing. Then so many of those series continued into the 2010s and they were just locked into that choice, writing about modern teens Not texting each other.

An Epic antitrust loss for Google
Tumblr media
A jury just found Google guilty on all counts of antitrust violations stemming from its dispute with Epic, maker of Fortnite, which brought a variety of claims related to how Google runs its app marketplace. This is huge:
https://www.nytimes.com/2023/12/11/technology/epic-games-google-antitrust-ruling.html
The mobile app store world is a duopoly run by Google and Apple. Both use a variety of tactics to prevent their customers from installing third party app stores, which funnels all app makers into their own app stores. Those app stores cream an eye-popping 30% off every purchase made in an app.
This is a shocking amount to charge for payment processing. The payments sector is incredibly monopolized and notorious for its price-gouging – and its standard (wildly inflated) rate is 2-5%:
https://pluralistic.net/2023/08/04/owning-the-libs/#swiper-no-swiping
Now, in theory, Epic doesn't have to sell in Google Play, the official Android app store. Unlike Apple's iOS, Android permit both sideloading (installing an app directly without using an app store) and configuring your device to use a different app store. In practice, Google uses a variety of anticompetitive tricks to prevent these app stores from springing up and to dissuade Android users from sideloading. Proving that Google's actions – like paying Activision $360m as part of "Project Hug" (no, really!) – were intended to prevent new app storesfrom springing up was a big lift for Epic. But they managed it, in large part thanks to Google's own internal communications, wherein executives admitted that this was exactly why Project Hug existed. This is part of a pattern with Big Tech antitrust: many of the charges are theoretically very hard to make stick, but because the companies put their evil plans in writing (think of the fraudulent crypto exchange FTX, whose top execs all conferred in a groupchat called "Wirefraud"), Big Tech keeps losing in court:
https://pluralistic.net/2023/09/03/big-tech-cant-stop-telling-on-itself/
Now, I do like to dunk on Big Tech for this kind of thing, because it's objectively funny and because the companies make so many unforced errors. But in an important sense, this kind of written record is impossible to avoid. Any large institution can only make and enact policy through administrative systems, and those systems leave behind a paper-trail: memos, meeting minutes, etc. Yes, we all know that quote from The Wire: "Is you taking notes on a fucking criminal conspiracy?" But inevitably, any ambitious conspiracy can only exist if someone is taking notes.
What's more, any large conspiracy involving lots of parties will inevitably produce leaks. Think of this as the corollary to the idea that the moon landing can't be a hoax, because there's no way 400,000 co-conspirators could keep the secret. Big Tech's conspiracies required hundreds or even thousands of collaborators to keep their mouths shut, and eventually someone blabs:
https://www.science.org/content/article/fake-moon-landing-you-d-need-400000-conspirators
This is part of a wave of antitrust cases being brought against the tech giants. As Matt Stoller writes, the guilty-on-all-counts jury verdict will leak into current and future actions. Remember, Google spent much of this year in court fighting the DoJ, who argued that the company bribed Apple not to make a competing search engine, paying tens of billions every year to keep a competitor from emerging. Now that a jury has convinced Google of doing that to prevent alternative app stores from emerging, claims that it used these pay-for-delay tactics in other sectros get a lot more credible:
https://www.thebignewsletter.com/p/boom-google-loses-antitrust-case
On that note: what about Apple? Epic brought a very similar case against Apple and lost. Both Apple and Epic are appealing that case to the Supreme Court, and now that Google has been convicted in a similar case, it might prompt the Supremes to weigh in and resolve the seeming inconsistencies in the interpretation of federal law.
This is a key moment in the long project to wrest antitrust away from the pro-monopoly side, who spent decades "training" judges to produce verdicts that run counter to the plain language of America's antitrust law:
https://pluralistic.net/2021/08/13/post-bork-era/#manne-down
There's 40 years' worth of bad precedent to overturn. The good news is that we've got the law on our side. Literally, the wording of the laws and the records of the Congressional debate leading to their passage, all militate towards the (incredibly obvious) conclusion that the purpose of anti-monopoly law is to fight monopoly, not defend it:
https://pluralistic.net/2023/04/14/aiming-at-dollars/#not-men
It's amazing to realize that we got into this monopoly quagmire because judges just literally refused to enforce the law. That's what makes one part of the jury verdict against Google so exciting: the jury found that Google's insistence that Play Store sellers use its payment processor was an act of illegal tying. Today, "tying" is an obscure legal theory, but few doctrines would be more useful in disenshittifying the internet. A company is guilty of illegal tying when it forces you to use unrelated products or services as a condition of using the product you actually want. The abandonment of tying led to a host of horribles, from printer companies forcing you to buy ink at $10,000/gallon to Livenation forcing venues to sell tickets through its Ticketmaster subsidiary.
The next phase of this comes when the judge decides on the penalty. Epic doesn't want cash damages – it wants the judge to order Google to fulfill its promise of "an open, competitive Android ecosystem for all users and industry participants." They've asked the judge to order Google to facilitate third-party app stores, and to separate app stores from payment processors. As Stoller puts it, they want to "crush Google’s control over Android":
https://www.epicgames.com/site/en-US/news/epic-v-google-trial-verdict-a-win-for-all-developers
Google has sworn to appeal, surprising no one. The Times's expert says that they will have a tough time winning, given how clear the verdict was. Whatever this means for Google and Android, it means a lot for a future free from monopolies.
