When Danny went to list Dani/Ellie as his heir after she'd come back from her years of traveling the world, he was quickly informed that he already had one in line for the thrown.

"What? Since when?!"

The pretentious, floating eyeball looked like he wanted to be anywhere else other than here, providing information to King Phantom, but explained anyway.

"The day you officially achieved royal status, you permanently linked your being to the Infinite Realms. When this happened, however, a child was in the process of being created with the assistance of ectoplasmic runoff that's been leaking into the mortal world for centuries. As a result of your power being incorporated into the Realms at such a time, this human child retained an imprint of your core signature. The Infinite Realms itself has recognized this child as your offspring. Your... other offspring has yet to be recognized in such a way and would therefore be considered your second heir once claimed."

Danny stared at the Observant with wide, blank eyes that were slowly filling with dread and panic.

"Why are you just telling me this now?? My coronation was over a decade ago!" He held his face in his hands and gave a horrified groan at what he just learned.

"If you really wanted that clone as your heir, I'm afraid it's too late to change it-"

Danny's head shot back up with a snarl and furious green eyes.

"That's not what I'm upset about you walking cataracts! Eleven years! I've missed eleven years of this kid's life!! How could you think I-"

At a loss for words, he growled deep in his chest. Deep enough that it echoed throughout the halls and rattled the floors.

"Who is this kid, and where can I find them?"

Once given the information and learning of the child's other parental figures, he gets to work. A few weeks later, he appears in the home office of a well-known billionaire with a stack of papers that he promptly slams onto the desk in front of the startled man. (1)

"I demand visitation rights to our son, Damian Wayne."

(1) Danny actually visited Talia first to get visitation rights. Needless to say, that didn't go very well. He's still got a couple knives floating around in his chest cavity because of it.

(*) ALSO! I'm not sure how this lines up with the DC/Batman timeline. All I figured out is that if Danny waited to be crowned until after he graduated college as an astrophysicist, which take 5 to 7 years, he'd be about 36 years old when he finds out about Damian. Bruce would be about 41, so the age gap is only 5 years. If y'all wanna make this Danny/Bruce, go ahead!

The Royal Tutor is so funny because the whole premise is that all these princes want to be king, but the further in you get its like. Do they?? Do they really?? Half of them don’t seem fully convinced the monarchy should even exist let alone that THEY should be the monarch.

While contemplating their respective suitability for high kingship, I just realized that Feanor and Fingolfin die in essentially the exact same way: recklessly charging at the enemy far ahead of everyone else/alone, predictably dying for it, and leaving a leadership vacuum; it just took Fingolfin longer to snap.

(And, arguably, different things made them snap. For Feanor, it was Finwe's death (in my opinion he snapped then and just didn't die until he actually hit balrogs) and for Fingolfin it was the destruction of their people/land/goals beyond redress of all their houses (or so it seemed to him).

Anyway, in the end Fingolfin managed way more time of reasonable, sane governance, but both of them still lost their tempers and senses and got themselves killed (epically! nobly! dramatically!) for their own desire to fight when they were needed alive.

#yes they had heirs but #the death of a ruling monarch is extremely disruptive in the best of circumstances #which both of these were definitely not #first Maedhros got himself captured #and then Maglor just kept things together but without moving forward #Fingolfin's death was probably actually worse #situationally/politically #because they were in the middle of the freaking Bragollach #and the Noldor lost a TON of unity #(and you could certainly argue that they didn't have much to begin with)#the silmarillion #fingolfin #feanor #high kingship of the noldor #softlysilver

Solo Leveling AU! Choi Jong-in and Cha Hae-in as half-siblings through Antares!

Once, Antares fell in love with a mortal woman and in his normal disguise, he managed to charm her and soon got her pregnant. Shocked upon learning it, Antares chose to leave her by making an excuse that he must fly to another country for a business trip and promised that he'd come back. Little did the woman know, it was a lie coated in sweet words.

Nine months later, the woman gave birth to a healthy baby boy, who had red hair just like his biological father. The woman felt her heart shatter at the sight of the hair color because it became a stark reminder of the man who had made her heart flutter in thousands of ways.

Sure, the woman wanted to love her son more than anything, but it appeared her love was not enough to erase the traces of her baby's biological father. Now, Jong-in grew up under his nanny's care while his mom was a busy woman who hardly spent a day with him due to her work.

His mom never missed his birthdays and other special occasions in his life, so Jong-in was happy. But what he couldn't grasp was how other kids had lots of memories with their parents whereas he, having only a mother, felt completely out of place. He wondered where his father could be, yet his mom always refused to answer.

Going back to Antares, the Destruction Monarch had once again fell in love with a woman. She was a master at taekwondo and also an athlete. Her skills made him impressed. However, unlike his first woman, Antares felt quite challenged at the blondie beauty — she was not easy to be swayed despite being soft-hearted and was always busy.

After a few more attempts, Antares finally got the woman to go out with him. They'd mainly spend dinners together. And eventually, Antares got her pregnant; he was joyful when he learned that he was becoming a father.

Unfortunately, with his duties as a Monarch being called, Antares had to leave his lover behind. But when he came back after one earth year, he discovered that his lover was now engaged to someone else, along with a little girl who was likely his. Enraged and betrayed, Antares decided to disappear from earth for good.

Cha Hae-in was born to a loving family. Her mother was a sportswoman and her father was a literature professor. But little did she know, there was a secret her mother was hiding from her and that secret was about her biological father.

A few years passed, and when gates began showing up, Jong-in and Hae-in instantly awakened as S-Rank hunters. Not just by fate, rather by their inhumane genes that had also given them innate powers. Choi Jong-in, who had inherited his father's flames, and Cha Hae-in, who had inherited her father's unrivaled determination for battle.

They worked under the same guild together. Jong-in's mother had long passed away before the gates arrived and Hae-in's parents had been killed during the first invasion of monsters.

And somewhere in the dimensional gaps, Antares felt a strong connection that was directed to his children, which meant that they had gotten their awakening. His lips tugged into a grin. He was the first and only Monarch to pass his genes to a new life — not one, but two. The Dragon Monarch has two successors.

How did he tell them? Simple, Antares came to earth and instead of clashing with Jin-woo, he teleported himself to the places where his children were battling the monsters. And for the first time, he witnessed how powerful they had become, and he couldn't be prouder. It was like he was seeing himself in two different humans.

Jong-in was the first one to notice him. "You! You're— you're that—"

"Your father." Antares said to him.

Jong-in stood in both bewilderment and shocked.

And not long after, Antares caught something that was heading toward him. He looked at the corner of his eye and saw a familiar force. He immediately blocked the sword with his hand and faced the furious eyes of none other than his daughter.

"You fight good, daughter," he told her.

Hae-in almost tripped from her balance at those words.

To prove himself that he was indeed their father, Antares released his mana and summoned theirs where all three of their mana matched together like mirrors.

Now, everything dawned on the two hunters. Jong-in realized why his mom refused to answer him about his father and why she was frequently avoiding him when he was a child. Hae-in thought the man who raised her was her father, but no, he was actually her stepfather.

After a while, Antares made a deal with the hunters. He would cease the war under one condition: he was going to take his children with him.

Many of the hunters protested, especially from the Hunters Guild, and Jin-woo, who had arrived in the scene just in time, was willing to fight the Destruction Monarch until the end. However, Jong-in and Hae-in stepped up and gave in. They were going with their father.

And of course, being the Guild Master and the Vice Master, Jong-in and Hae-in knew they must do what they thought was best, and that included leaving everyone behind. Jong-in entrusted Tae-gyu, Dong-wook, and Yoon-ho to take his guild members. And Jin-woo, who still wouldn't want to surrender, watched in disdain. Hae-in had to walk toward him and say that everything would be fine, that she would be fine.

Jin-woo didn't say anything else as he was too hurt to know that his friend was a child of his biggest enemy. Though, that wouldn't change the way he saw her anyway, it was just that seeing her leave was more painful.

True to his words, all of the remaining monsters had turned into dust when Antares took his children to his realm.

Jong-in, knowing that he must light up the atmosphere a bit for Hae-in, said: "well, would you look at that! Who knew my second-in-command is actually the sister I never thought I would have?" The corner of Hae-in's mouth twitched. Their friendship was one thing, but finding out they were related was a whole different thing.

Sure, he may be contented with Hae-in as his half-sister, but Jong-in felt hatred against Antares, who was his father in the entire time and had not once showed up where he needed a parent. On the other hand, Hae-in felt neutral about her true father, though she felt bad for Jong-in, who practically yelled at Antares after a minute since they had arrived in the Monarch's realm.

Antares just spoke a single "sorry" and was unfazed at the scowl his son had given him. He did not regret that he hadn't showed up in Jong-in's life since he had duties to fulfill as a Monarch. But now that he finally got to be with his children, he would do anything to make them more powerful and live up to being heirs of the Destruction Monarch.

Story where the new monarch isn’t crowned by a religious figure or by themselves (either because no religion ranks higher than them or that no one takes up their god’s particular priesthood), but they are instead crowned by the person who hates them most.

Maybe it’s their worst enemy. Maybe it’s some kid in the slums. There’s a ceremony to discover the person who hates the heir presumptive most, magic that tells the realm’s protectors who it is and where to find them. When it comes time for the coronation, the heir has 72 hours to convince their biggest hater why they deserve to be crowned the realm’s next monarch. If they can, then their enemy places the crown on their head, as a sign that while they may dislike the monarch they trust their ability to rule.

If they can’t, the heir presumptive is removed from the line of succession. Maybe it goes next to a sibling, or to another branch of the Royal tree. But if you can’t convince the person who hates you more than anything else in the world that you’re the best person for the job of ruling the realm—not a good person or a kind person, but the best person capable of making the sort of hard decisions that come with rulership—then this person isn’t going to make excuses for why you should be the next monarch anyway. It doesn’t matter you were firstborn of a firstborn going back several generations. You suck and you’re cruel and you’re not going to do the realm any good, so the crown passes to your uncle.

Gloucester’s power was valuable because it ensured royal control of a significant and troublesome part of the country. Nor can Edward be blamed for not foreseeing the ends to which Gloucester might put his power. The duke had been a loyal upholder of the house of York, a central figure in Edward’s polity*; there was no obvious reason why he should not occupy the same role under Edward V. In this respect, precedent was on Edward’s side. Previous minorities had seen squabbles over the distribution of power, but no young king had ever been deposed. Even royal uncles traditionally drew a line at that, something which explains why Gloucester’s actions seemed so shocking to contemporaries and, perhaps, the reason why he got away with it so easily in the short term.

i know this is probably not what you're looking to hear but today i have been thinking a lot about paul delaroche's 1883 painting the execution of lady jane grey

#if you don't know who lady jane grey was she's called the 'nine days queen'#because she was put on the throne after henry the VIIIs son (king edward vi) died because edward was protestant #and the next heir to the throne was henry's first daughter mary (bloody mary) who was catholic and also considered illegitimate #so they put this 16/17 year old girl on the throne in an effort to prevent mary's accession (jane did have a legitimate claim technically)#and anyway she was deposed after only 9 days and is the shortest ruling monarch in english history #and i just find this painting (which admittedly was painted like 300 years after the event) so STRIKING #because apparently when jane was brought to the chopping block at the tower of london she tied her own handkerchief around her eyes #but should couldn't find the block where she was supposed to put her neck so you can see her reaching out in search of it in the painting #she had to be guided to the chopping block by one of the witnesses #there are lots of inaccuracies in the painting but i just find it so FASCINATING #anyway thanks for coming to my tedtalk!#love you <3 #liv got mail

what i absolutely hate about (most) kdramas is that the guy always seems to be more into the girl than vice versa. i understand shyness and stereotypes, yk, but it’s so painful seeing the guy making efforts while the girl doesnt even pay him mind until he does it? and there’s countless examples, too
