Because I have recently discovered I get injured significantly more often than other people in my life,
*I am counting anything that requires you to make a change in your day-to-day life to accommodate it while it heals(stopping sports, avoiding stairs, crutches, ect). ie sprained ankle, torn muscle, cut that requires stitches, broken bones, ect ect
If you want feel free to add the most common source of injury/whether it's sports/work related in the tags!

Hii! It's been a while since i last requested here! I hope school isn't torturing you that much.. Wanted to ask if you could right an Eric Coulter headcanons or imagine having feelings and/or dating a fellow dauntless leader? She's a dautless, so were her parents, so she doesn't feel like she has to prove herself to anyone and is easy going but baddass when fighting?? (Not important, but if you could add her being an expert in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu i would love you forever)
Eric falling for you:
Eric always knew he had a weak spot for you, but he tried not to show it
At first for him it was just a little crush he thought he’d move on from quickly
He was wrong
His crush on you grew and it didn’t take long before Four knew about it
Four was definetly teasing Eric from time to time, but not in the childish way
Eric ended up asking you if you wanna help him with training the new members
He wanted to show off so he asked you to fight with him in front of the new members
Boy didn’t know you were skilled in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Normally Eric would feel angry that he lost to anyone, but he didn’t get angry at you at all
After all, he had a big feelings for you
Although after losing a fight against you he feels a little bit embarrassed, but it quickly washes away
Four started teasing him about his protectivness towards you as he always did his best to keep you safe while training
He’s not gonna let you win “War Game” to be honest
You falling for Eric:
You had feelings for Eric for a long time
As a leader of Dauntless you couldn’t really pay much attention to it
You had a lot of things to do as a leader after all
When Eric asked you to join and help him with training you agreed not thinking much of it
Your feelings for him started to grow more and more as you sometimes caught yourself staring at him
When Eric asked you to fight him you flexed a little and pulled out your best Brazilian Jui-Jitsu skills
You could tell that Eric wasn’t angry about losing to you which made you suspect that he may have a soft spot for you
You and Four were close friends and when you caught Eric glaring at Four you’d be confused
But Eric is Eric after all
You noticed that sometimes when someone tried to flirt with you and you were uncomfortable Eric would often do something about it
You noticed that Eric got kinda jealous at Four for being your right hand as you are the leader
The fact that you knew you didn’t have to prove yourself to anyone was something that many people liked about you
You’re not much of a show off or anything like that in general
But when you have to fight… you’re the most badass bitch of all of them
Dating:
Eric can get easily jelaous of others, despise knowing you would never leave him
You two are a very powerful couple
As a leader your day is full of responsibilities so after your day Eric would help you relax
You sleep in his room with him for sure
He doesn’t have a problem with sleeping on the floor if you want him to, but he’d prefer sleeping in a bed with you
Eric would probably just lay you down on his chest while sleeping
You are the only one who can calm Eric down and prevent him from doing something very stupid
If someone would flirt with you he wouldn’t even give the person a second warning before fighting him
His first warning would be very intimidating
Eric isn’t much of a PDA person, but he surely is down for flirting with you in public a little bit
Eric has a very teasing and flirty comments sometimes during the day
You’re a very respected woman not only because you’re the leader, but mainly because of your personality
Eric is very protective of you in your relationship
He knows you can handle yourself, but still
You’re his girlfriend after all
He doesn’t want anything to happen to you
Eric doesn’t like to let other people know that you’re his soft spot
He is absolutely shocked and also smirking when he sees how good you are at Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
And how badass you look while fighting
You’re really not that agressive or badass looking normally so he wouldn’t think that you can be such a badass
The only time when you go against each other is when you and the new members are playing “War Game”
Tumblr media
————————————————————
Hey, thank you so much for requesting. I haven’t done any requests in a while so yeah it means a lot to me.
I’m truly sorry if this ain’t what you expected and feel free to tell me what I should change
And unfortunately the school is torturing me, but it’ll get better. Thank you for asking in the first place 🫶
I might try to also do an imagine, but I’m not sure what it’d be about tho

do you have any theonsa head canons 😁
YES. Preface my Theonsa is set in an au where Theon never betrays the stark and instead goes and rescues Sansa, or it’s a modern au. ok so first boy is 100% named Florian. Theon lets Sansa name all of their kids northern names if she wanted too but she makes sure to name some of them with island influences, such as Gwendolyn and Quenton. Theon and Sansa are the biggest gossips in Robb’s court, and Theon is a good husband who discreetly gets gossip for Sansa. He gives her kraken jewelry all the time. If he ends up being lord reaper he is constantly visiting winterfell so Sansa can see her family and he can see his best friend. They start a tradition of the heir to winterfell being fostered on Pyke to retain good relations. He builds her a Godswood. She brings glasshouses to pyke and they are finally able to produce enough food. They both love to cuddle and Theon is always extra gentle when it comes to touching Sansa’s back. He 100% commissions a throne for her beside the sea stone chair. Unfortunately only one of Sansa’s kids gets her hair but about half of them get her eyes. They work together to stop the piracy of the iron islands and instead convert them to trade. They dance all the time especially once Sansa revealed that as a child her favorite thing about Theon was that he would dance with her. Theon also brings out a more carefree side of Sansa helping her shed the perfect lady image she so often puts on. Sansa let’s Theon braid her hair. They coordinate outfits all the time, mainly through accessories with Sansa wearing kraken jewelry and Theon wearing rings that match the color of her dresses, usually pale blues and purples.
in a modern au they are such an opposites attract scenario. I feel like both modern Sansa and Arya would be into dance, with Sansa being obsessed with ballet, and Arya using the gracefulness and flexibility from dance in her jiu jitsu. Anyways Theon is at every single one of Sansa’s performances and always brings her winter roses and lemon cakes. Robb is actually ok with their relationship but Jon is super hostile about it because he is super protective of his little sister, they are actually cousins but Ned adopts him after Lyanna dies. Theon plays dumb but he’s smart, when they were younger he would always help Sansa with math since that was the only subject she struggled with. he decides to work for a fishing business on the upper east coast. For half the year they live in New York since Sansa is a principal dancer for the New York ballet and the other half they live on cape cod for Theon’s fishing business. def have more but I can’t think of all of them rn.

I haven't been posting much lately because a new dojo recently opened nearby, and while it's a style I've never done before (Ryukyu Kempo Karate), I'm just excited to have a local option that isn't Brazilian jiu-jitsu. (Absolutely nothing against BJJ, but it's not what I'm looking for.)
Since moving to this area, I've sadly been on my own with swordsmanship practice as there's nothing closer than a 3 hour drive, which just isn't feasible in terms of time or money or safety (especially during our long, snowy winters).
Wanting to continue some kind of formal martial arts training, I took a few years of Taekwondo until, sadly, the instructor moved away, which was definitely frustrating. (Him moving, not me taking Taekwondo. 😅)
After that, I had cancer, and then had to deal with all of the assorted post-cancer health stuff caused by chemotherapy, which made (and often still makes) even simple exercise a challenge, so for a bit, I did very little even to continue practice on my own when it came to martial arts.
Anyway, the new dojo is only 20 minutes from my work and it's a beautiful, big space. It's also a proper dojo, rather than a school gym or a fire hall, so the training space and hours aren't shared with random people, which is a definite bonus for everyone.
This particular style and school are focused on self-improvement and self-defense. The instructors are also aware of and willing to work with my ongoing health stuff, so that I'm feeling both welcome and safe training there.
I'm really excited to have that back in my life.
However, several nights at the dojo after work and then having to get up again early the next morning for work hasn't left me with as much time to create art and write about the Edo period as I'd like, and I haven't found the correct balance in my time quite yet.
I just want you all to know that I'm not going to stop posting, but that it will take me a little while to create a new routine and start posting regularly again.
So please bear with me.
If you have any suggestions for what you'd like me to write or draw about more in the future, please let me know in the comments or via PM. I also have some asks still that I'll eventually get to, I promise!

there were soooo many other trans and queer folks at this bjj class, and the coach herself was trans, and ahhhhh it was just so good. i haven't been around that many queers at once in, stars, 7 years??? since college??? and never with the self confidence i have now for sure!!!
also i'm really starting to get the hang of what i've been learning! i'm still suuuper weak, but i can feel my stamina already increasing. my muscles will get stronger eventually 💪 but the person who's the most skilled in our group said they really like rolling with me! and i could actually flow through moves when we sparred! i don't know many yet, but i joined at a spot in the curriculum where we're learning some really solid basics, and i very often end up in a spot where i get a lightbulb "i know what to do here!!" moment!!! already!!! after 7 classes!!!

JO.HN WI.CK : FIGHTING STYLES.
these movies are Obviously known for the amazing action and the amount of work keanu put into being able to do a lot of the action, so i’m gonna talk about as many fighting styles that can be identified and even why john uses them and for what. for visual examples of these, feel free to consult this post as well.
*DISCLAIMER : i am not and do not claim to be an expert in any of these fighting styles, nor have i practiced any of them personally. i’ve simply done my research, watched a lot of training videos and studied moves, as well as the bonus features of the wick films which often talk about the fighting styles in these movies.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu : we’re going to start with this since this is one of the fighting styles that is most utilized since it’s one of the primary styles keanu was trained in for these movies. this is obviously the brazilian variant of the japanese martial art jujutsu / jiu-jitsu (we know keanu was trained specifically in BJJ because he was taught by the machado brothers, who are a family of BJJ practitioners). the biggest foundation of BJJ is the concept that a smaller and/or weaker fighter can defend themselves from and defeat someone who is bigger, stronger, or heavier. this is kind of the case for john. he is on the taller side, at 6′1″, but he’s not incredibly big, honestly. he has a decent amount of defined muscle, but it’s not crazy to say that most of the guys we see him fight are bigger, stronger, and heavier than he is. which is why BJJ works so well for him. as we see, this fighting style primarily works through gaining leverage in a fight and taking the fight itself to the ground through grappling, where the fighter can execute joint locks and choke-holds on their opponent. taking the fight to the ground and properly executing BJJ techniques can and will allow a smaller fighter to defeat bigger or stronger opponents.
Judo : there are many similarities to BJJ as these fighting styles are both grappling focused, but judo has a few extra techniques that set it apart from BJJ. these are their throwing techniques and striking techniques, with the grappling techniques it partially shares with BJJ. we see john throw a lot of his opponents, whether over his shoulder or with his hip (standing technique), or occasionally even drop himself to the ground in order to pull his opponent down (sacrifice technique). these are all primarily judo-based and they’re pretty popular when it comes to grappling-style fighting in hollywood movies. the striking techniques share a lot with other martial arts and we see a good amount of that in the opening sequence of chapter 2 since he opts not to use his gun during that time (up until he shoots that one guy in the knees). the grappling techniques are, as i said, very similar to BJJ, in that they are: holding and pinning, strangulation, and joint locks.
Sambo : this is a russian martial art that takes many of its techniques from a lot of eastern martial arts, including jiu-jitsu and judo (the founders of sambo studied judo in japan). sambo is very likely the fighting style that we see the boys in the tarkovsky theater practicing in chapter 3, so, considering what we know about john, he would have been taught and be proficient in sambo. this is also the fighting style that viggo utilizes in his fight with john at the end of the first film and john matches him with sambo techniques, possibly just to make the fight fair lol. sambo’s focus is a little more wide since it’s inspired by and modeled after many different types of martial arts, but still very much grappling-based. in sport sambo, it very much resembles catch wrestling, but combat sambo was made specifically for the military so it uses striking and grappling, also allowing punches, kicks, elbows, knees, laid kicks, headbutts, and groin strikes.
Aikido : yet another grappling martial art, aikido has some similarities to judo and BJJ. chad stahelski confirmed that some aikido techniques were incorporated into keanu’s training and ultimately john’s fighting style, specifically in chapter 2. this japanese martial art uses throwing techniques and joint manipulations to injure and subdue. in aikido specifically, it’s a matter of redirecting an opponent’s attack momentum to throw them off. we see john execute a couple of aikido-style throws in the rome sequence of chapter 2.
Hapkido : following somewhat of a pattern, this is one more combat style that deals with ground fighting, although not as much grappling as judo and BJJ. hapkido and aikido share the same japanese origins and some similar techniques but they have become distinct and different with time (aikido is meant to be purely defensive while hapkido is usually considered more offensive and more violent). hapkido is a korean martial art that’s a form of self-defense and deals with strikes, joint-locks, and throws. furthermore, hapkido has a large emphasis in all of this while using techniques with weapons, like knives, swords, staffs, and rope/belt (which is the techniques john uses). these rope techniques are designed to block incoming attacks and then trap the attacker’s limb and use that leverage against them in some way, usually through throwing them, knocking them down, or disarming them. specifically, we see john use pho bak (rope) hapkido techniques in the hotel fight with ms. perkins when john uses his sling as a defensive weapon ; and in the glass house when john removes his belt and uses that as a weapon. as a note : hapkido has not been confirmed in any way as being a fighting style of john’s ; i just simply did research into martial arts that use these kinds of techniques and hapkido was the one i stumbled upon. and with the confirmed inclusion of aikido, it doesn’t feel too insane that hapkido might have been a thought-point as well by fight coordinators and trainers.
Boxing : i do want to state that the filmmakers specifically chose not to make john’s fighting style boxing because boxing is notoriously hard to fake on film. it’s way harder to fake a punch to the face than it is to throw a stunt guy to the ground, without an edit. which is why they decided to shake things up. but like i said with BJJ, a lot of his opponents are bigger than him, so boxing as a primary fighting style wouldn’t work well for john anyway. but he still knows how to throw a solid punch. there are a couple of solo punches (one in the bath house at the red circle and one in the fight with ms. perkins) and then a few more in john’s fight with viggo, but boxing techniques aren’t things john often uses, except simple boxing blocking which is the motion of raising the arms towards the head and ears to block incoming attacks. western boxing and muay thai blocks are incredibly similar to each other, but i am inclined to list boxing here rather than muay thai (which is another style of boxing), because, based on my non-expert opinion and observations, john doesn’t show much muay thai technique at all. that’s not to say he doesn’t know some muay thai, he just isn’t proficient enough in it for it to be considered a combat style for him.
Shinobi-Iri : this is stealth and infiltration techniques, plain and simple. we see it a little bit at the start of chapter 2, when he very quietly enters the warehouse where his car is being kept. he sneaks up on a number of guards and incapacitates them. we see this even more in chapter 3 in the glass house sequence with his ability to hide from zero and even disappear at a moment’s notice. we also see it once in grand central station in chapter 3 when he disappears right before zero’s eyes.
Close-Quarters Combat : it’s not an uncommon idea that john has military history. it’s a headcanon of many, many fans and, when he was making the first movie, keanu himself thought of john as having a military background. so with the idea of john having some kind of military background, he would absolutely be knowledgeable of and have proficiency in close quarters combat. CQC is all about tactical organization in confined spaces with a small unit of people, usually engaging with opponents hand-to-hand and with short-range firearms. we see john do a lot of this, although in a solo scenario. this is what the red circle sequence is, the shootout in rome as well, and the hall of mirrors in chapter 2. it’s all john in close quarters with his attackers, with short-range weapons (ranging from sidearms, to shotguns, to the occasional assault rifle).
Gun-Fu : yes, last but not least, i’m throwing gun-fu in here. obviously it’s not a real martial art, but it’s pretty relevant for john and how he fights. a lot of the fighting styles listed above don’t incorporate many weapons, and especially not large weapons or firearms. they are body-based. many of them have to do with ultimately knocking the opponent out. what gun-fu is for john and in these movies is the substitution of a gun in place of the completion of many holds and locks to knock an opponent out. there are many times where john executes techniques that would leave him able to knock his opponent out but instead shoots them in the head to finish them off.
that’s about all i have, frankly. i really love the fighting styles and choreography that they’ve managed to pull off in these movies. it’s all so exciting and gorgeous and impressive what the actors and the amazing stuntmen and women are able to pull off.

im gonna rant a little
this fucking sucks because im actually very upset with my best friend and their partner. we're close friends and tend to agree on important things, so of course i assumed they were both still wearing masks indoors - specifically, at work, in class, and while in stores. i personally dont wear a mask at home or when visiting friends homes, or when at jiu jitsu (you like... cant wear a mask there. so yes it is an exposure risk but even with a mask, at that proximity its all but useless), and i figured they were in the same boat where i didnt see them wearing masks because we were always hanging out at our own apartments, outside, or in my private office at work (where its safe to remove cause im alone). but it turns out i was wrong about that.
my friends partner (we're friends? but she has been a bit erratic lately and i cant fucking predict her and so i dont even know where we stand anymore. it fucking sucks to have someone go hot-and-cold on you all the time, but i believe that she's fundamentally more mature than this behavior suggests and believe that she is working to do better, and since she's with my best friend, i'm more tolerant of that behavior than i would be with someone else) got sick and said she was sick yesterday, and i was thinking about how both of them have gotten ill a fair amount the past few months. despite masking, i also got sick twice, so i didnt think too much of it before. but yesterday i was like... wait. how the fuck are they getting sick so often if theyre wearing masks. and asked about it - turns out, they've really only been wearing masks in places like airplanes. yeah, they're both vaccinated and boosted, but what the fuck.
anyway, i just got a text saying they both feel sick now and i genuinely dont have any fucking sympathy at all right now. like... i dont want to be a dick but if you stop wearing masks and then suddenly start getting sick all the fucking time that just proves why masks are so important??? like what the fuck. and honestly i feel like i maybe misjudged them in a way? like i still care and we're still friends but i feel hurt and shocked that they would both just decide to stop masking everywhere and put people at such a risk and think so little of it that it never comes up in conversation.
and i want to talk to them about it but i really dont know how... like i said, my friends partner has been incredibly inconsistent and unpredictable in her behavior towards me and i cant imagine this conversation going well. i think for now im just not going to respond to the text and stop checking in for a couple days cause im pissed. usually, when they're sick, i check in daily and offer to go to the store/cook food/help out where i can, but i am not fucking willing to do it this time. this fucking sucks.

Choosing MIT PE!
So, idk if yall know, but MIT has a PE requirement of 8 units. Every single class I’ve seen counts for two units so I would need to take 4 classes to fulfill this requirement. My goal is (and what I think most students do) to take one class per semester (or one during IAP and one during the semester) in order to be done by the end of Sophomore year and hopefully start some new habits!
Tumblr media
So, here is the link to the MIT PE courses and I’m gonna list out the courses I wanna take and why, starting with the ones I am more likely to take:
Yoga/CPR/First Aid: Do wanna learn yoga as my flexibility leaves much to be desired. I am looking into doing EMT work, so this would likely be very helpful + helpful in any scenario where I need to help out!
Pilates: Get that dream body ❤️❤️ strengthen my overall weak self. May be sorta similar to weight training and yoga tbh idk about pilates very much I’ve just heard it’s something a lot of women like to do and that it’s great for your health!
Women’s Weight Training: I am super duper weak so improving in this regard will help. Plus I read somewhere that doing regular weight training can help ward off Alzheimers. Since I also wanna join EMT I have to be able to more or less carry 125 pounds which I definitely cannot do right now. ALSO woman’s only class?!? Yes please, I won’t be so intimidated by knowing little to nothing about the gym T-T
Archery: I would be able to fulfill my innate desire to be like Merida from Brave. I would (hopefully) become a girl boss as well. HOWEVER, it is a class you need in order to get a pirate certificate (yes MIT does pirate certificates), and I have heard that classes in this cluster are typically hard to get into :(.
Jiu-Jitsu (American): As I am going to be living alone and like 1k miles away from home, self defense is never a bad idea. Again I would (hopefully) be able to be a girl-boss and I can throw hands with my manager (he and I get along, I just think it would be cool, yk sorta an Anakin and Obiwan moment). Also on the website it says we will learn to defeat opponents with anatomical knowledge which is cool, especially as a pre-med.
Skate: So, this course at MIT teaches students to ice skate which is again super cool. Although I would only learn the basics, there are intermediate courses I could go into. I feel like ice-skaters in general just look super graceful and it’s something I aspire for. Would have to make sure I have plenty of fluffy socks though as my heels are quite sensitive and I don’t want them to bleed.
Skiiing Downhill/Beginner Snowboarding: This sounds super duper cool, especially as I would probably grow close to my fellow classmates! However it’s VERY expensive at about $650 total, now this may not be a lot when you look at the general price to go skiing/snowboarding but... I’m gonna be a broke college student. I do like skiing and am pretty decent at it as I used to go often with my dad so I would most likely try snowboarding!
Volleyball: ...someone watched Haikyuu and doesn’t know how to act. Listen, it genuinely seems cool and my mom wanted me to get into it as a child. I am pretty short (idk the average height at MIT) so at team sports I’ll probably end up as a libero. It still seems pretty fun
Afterthought: MIT does have a swim test requirement however, my neighbor does have a pool so I am gonna try to practice during the summer and take the test during orientation week. I don’t wanna have to take a class as it is very cold in Boston + swimming with a period is uncomfortable for me so... that’ll have to wait.

Fighting and battles will follow man at a later date throughout his life plus all of his stages in addition to various parts of expertise. Yes, women in martial arts use chest protection and groin protection; while anatomy is unique, there is still risk of pain and damage to those areas. Yes, I wanted this article being concise and direct and understandable for any person reading it, beginner or expert. Some people still find it useful to record their MMA workouts, chances are they can begin to play it back and compare their movements to whatever video footage or article these are using. His movements are natural- atavistic reactions just like those of animals using the primal goal to survive and self-preserve. In 1880 the definition of has evolved so, besides javelin throw, other non- martial disciplines are included. So, within the earliest periods, the initial battles for hunting grounds, power or group domination begin. First contemporary features were visible within an English sport. The sport could possibly be practiced alone and without needing someone. In addition, the invention of numerous tools and weapons has forced website visitors to practice systematically to operate them purposefully when collecting food, as well as in demand for personal protection or perhaps an enemy attack.
This permits a minimum of technique for a maximum of application, as well as the usage of a computerized or subconscious response. But upon having a second look, this is a couple of martial artists who will be mastering their technique. The latest exponent of proper Self Defense Training, footwork and generalship, in mixed martial arts training, is Lyoto Machida who demonstrates extremely effective hit and move skills which can be the key on the strikers' game against a grappler. Do you want the kids to learn life skills and self-defense while very young? The courses are designed for teams of kids round the same age. KungFu is probably the most advanced styles of martial arts training which can be often connected with self-discipline. It is certain that martial sports owe their roots inside the most elementary varieties of fighting. Muay Thai focuses to a great extent for the clinch, or inside fighting around the feet. Man is a section of fighting and battles since his start. The struggle to survive has forced man to develop his physical features since the very beginnings. Since the good thing about you are not understanding of fighting techinques is apparent, practicing has changed into a a part of a preparation to get a life- long struggle and military training where these skills are being gained or maintained. This is why people trained various fighting techinques and strived to show their skills and capacity in competitions, gatherings and ceremonies. Since man’s origin, the fight between 2 different people has become considered sort of a psychosocial phenomenon. Some people do not much like the wrestling aspect and close-quarter fighting. Fighting spirit may be developed only through fighting. There are also Check This Out where you can buy your clothes cleaned, that is essential for killing bacteria and smelling fresh. With the help of this amazing site, you can find live workout sessions with all the rest of your class or perhaps obtain personalized sessions for your learning approach a bit more seriously to pursue your web training with martial arts. 5. I will help build a far more peaceful world. The Brazilian Jiu Jitsu program provides you with effective ground self-defence skills while providing good cardio, strength and suppleness training. Many, many movies have martial arts training women within them too, one of the most memorable is Angela Mao who was simply in Bruce Lee's "Enter the Dragon"; she trained extensively in fighting styles, and her skills were well displayed in the movie. There's more importantly, but those are some the well-known women who're mma fighters. And you have given me a couple ideas products to publish about inside the future! If you’ve wondered why your fighting techinques training hasn’t given you the internal a feeling of connection and aliveness you're looking for, it could be since the emphasis has been on punching and kicking and throwing, as opposed to about the heart and mind that EXPRESSES itself during these defensive ways. After cycling by having a few platforms, they settled on FitHive, which uses Zoom video calls and heart monitor devices to connect making use of their community. A few decades back, martial arts instructors are not so keen for the idea of forming alliances along with other defense styles and merging of tactics is hard.

Transcribed from my journal, in case one day it’s lost.
January 1, 2022 | 9:13 pm
It has been an imperfect year, yet so much more. I sit here, possibly with Covid, in my own office room with a candle lit and complete silence. Somewhat uninspired but a very deep hopefulness. A hopefulness not so ambitious, but one that is effortless and trusting.
I haven’t opened this journal (that appears more to have turned into a modge podge of notes) since my birthday. I though I remembered which drawer I left it in, and lo-and-behold, it was there at first look, as if waiting to be found.
As I’ve gotten “older,” the journaling has become way less. But I’ve always remembered and respected it for the guidance and clarity it has brought me. I recall sitting in my Holmdel bedroom at the formica white desk and a pink-colored candle burning too. I believe 2011 or so. Ten years..
Tonight I beg myself to be thankful and fulfilled and shocked at the place that I am.
This time last year, I was freshly hired by the PD and preparing to set off for the academy. Now I sit in direct view of a giant golden trophy for the Firearms Proficiency Award presented to ‘Recruit Carol So**.’ In the closet I see my near-perfect condition Class A hat with Badge 703 pinned to the front. This year I became a police officer. I am soon going to the Gracie Survival Tactics to become a certified instructor. Jiu jitsu is an officially approved tactic for law enforcement in New Jersey this year. What a time to be alive. Pat wants in on the “study guide” I’ve been putting together. I feel thankful. I am still new, perhaps lost at times. But I know I am able, have potential, am qualified and competent enough to move forward in year 2 at the PD, confidently.
Now I face the thing that has left a hole in me. As of two nights ago, I’m single. I/we should have ended this long ago, or better yet never started. But what helpfulness is a “should have” now? I am here now. There are not many tears left to cry. Just over 2 and a half years and it came down to an ugly breakup.
After Tony made dinner (running around making multiple grocery trips)... and his famous chicken parm at that.. I fell asleep in the bedroom and woke up to him fully irritated that I fell asleep. And so an exhausting fight ensued, where he ended up calling me a “dumbass.” And I became hateful and “broke out of character,” unless that is my true character. In the end, we yelled and yelled. And for the n-th time in our relationship, I said I was done. I repeated it several times. Admitted that I don’t know why I say “I love you.” And he got my phone for me, challenged me to block his number, and watched me block it in front of him. He looked at me and said, “So we’re done. You’re never gonna see me again? You’re never gonna see me again?” And when I said, “Well probably at the gym,” he said, “Fuck that gym.” He left and I haven’t spoken to him since.
It pains me. I feel like admitting that I don’t know why I love him just confirmed his belief that “I love you” is superficial. But I can’t be his answer, his reason, his pacifier, his stress ball, sex toy, Saint Mary.. I can’t. Today, I pondered what I might say to him if he were to ask if I love him again. And my answer is Yes Tony I love you. But I love me too.
Acne has gotten bad this year and I feel like I’m starting to experience hair loss. Stress is really something I’ve been trying to regulate and I know I feel that low-humming anxiety around Tony. It makes me think of when Brian broke up with me -- how he’d explained it. And how devastated I was. But I’m sure it hurt him too. I think of Brian more often than I’d like, but in that this relationship with Tony feels like the one with him, full circle, and roles flipped.
But such is life. We each can only be responsible for for ourselves and trust God to give us the miracle of being renewed. While I told Tony he needs therapy, I don’t know that I am exempt. I pray that he will be successful, happy, grateful, fulfilled, and in love with his life. I simply want that for me too.
A traumatized part of me wants nothing to do with dating and is tempted to enact some “no dating for a year” rule on myself. But I just will let it be. I will be open to a healthy, meaningful relationship. I won’t create a lifestyle that is so busy that it cannot accept a relationship.
This year I moved out on my own to ** Ko*** St. I love it. A part of me is sad how “overnight” I moved out, mostly for my mother whom I imagine the true empty nest was devastating for. But such is life again, right? And I’m happy I live so close to home. This year, I’ll save $12k for a total of half a down payment on a house. Lucky am I to have found a rental for now that’s 1 year and then month-to-month.
I plan to launch Kopp this year which makes me nervous. But seeing how God blessed (and is the One who inspires) my ideas, I am excited. The Airbnb in 2017 was a junk room. This year, it made my parents over $51k. Kopp can be done. It’ll be one for the books.
27 is the oldest I’ve ever felt, and yes, it’s the oldest I’ve ever been. An inundation of fear or concern has come over me around aging and dying. My aunt passed away in February, Jimmy had stage 3 cancer, Gabby took her life, and Daniel so quickly succumbed to colorectal cancer and passed away too. Between that and being a cop with an average life expectancy of 57, a potential to die every day, and the societal pressure to not wrinkle, have full hair, tight skin, a button nose, and big lips... aging feels scary this year.
This year, I remind myself that it is a privilege to age. It is universal destiny for all, and every pimple, wrinkle, and hair on your body does not make you ugly as the opposite does not make you genuinely beautiful. This year, I commit to taking steps like sunscreen, some preventative botox, and swapping some products. But I will not become obsessed. I will glow.
Thank you Lord that I am in your hands. Your protect me and create me and make all things possible.
Love, Carol

A3! And What Sports They’d Play ↦ All Troupes
So.. I was talking to a friend about the sports we used to play in the past. I loved sports as a kid and thinking of Haikyu also pushed me to do this. All troupes are included, and individual characters gets their own sport and my take on how well I think they’d do in it!
Kind of went off on Autumn and Winter Troupe;; sorry.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Uh, E-Sports, of course. He gets absolutely winded from walking, so sitting down and competitively playing a game he loves is his dream. On particularly intense matches, he breaks a heavy sweat and needs a lot of water and snacks to keep himself focused and in the game.
He's a popular player and a great one as well! Sometimes he gets asked to host little bits of the tournaments he attends because he has such a big fanbase and he's awesome at entertainment despite his normally deadpan tone with jokes.
Tumblr media
He has a lot of energy, so I think running in track or doing marathons would be good for him. Afterall, he's one of the first to run after Tsuzuru in the prologue of the game. He isn't the best nor is he the fastest runner, but his stamina is impressive and lets him outlast many of his competitors.
I also see him doing kayaking? Not competitively, but he definitely loves the thrill of crashing down small waterfalls and regaining his balance right after. The flow of the currents is exhilarating and he has a good sense of balance, so he'd rarely overturn in a kayak (which is absolutely dangerous by the way).
Tumblr media
He wouldn't do any competitive sports, but skate/longboarding is something I can definitely see him doing. If he needs time to himself or just simply wants to chill, he'll go out and enjoy the breeze as he boards down the bike lane in the park or on the road, hands in pockets.
He becomes a bit of an attraction at skate parks though. He's always seen there on his board, headphones donned and hands in pockets like I said; effortlessly performing tricks that a lot of other skaters would struggle doing. People are very attracted to the sight, and he lures them in whenever someone finds out he's at the park that day.
Tumblr media
He's already suffering so much and is always tired— I wouldn't put it past him to play shuffleboard. It's not a laborious sport, and he can play with anyone like his siblings or any elders who need the company. It's a slow paced sport and is great for sleepy Tsuzuru who needs a break from scrip writing. I don't know if there were any canon stories of him actually being involved in a sport at some point, but I think he'd be pretty okay at tennis or table tennis.
Tennis is a very intense sport so he didn't play it for long because practice cut into his studying, his part-time jobs, and his babysitting. Table tennis is similar to tennis with it's concept, except you can just kind of stand in one spot and don't have to run around as much. It's a fun game to play with his siblings since they enjoy it so much, and they always run after the ball so he doesn't have to do much other than play along with them and clean up when they're done.
Tumblr media
I honestly have no idea with Citron. I don't remember any canon details of Zahra (I think that's where he's from?) so I don't want to assume what kind of environment he was in that would influence his choice of athletics, but I think he would enjoy swimming! In the beach event, he ran into the water happily with Kazunari if I can remember, and I'd like to think he had a good body type for water.
There's also another part of me that thinks he'd love skydiving! The thrill of jumping out of the helicopter and letting the winds beat against him as he soared down towards the ground below would be awesome. He's practically shouting for joy as he glides down and loves the look of the city from above. Impressively enough, he can do flips in the air and loves twirling around, much to the dismay of other skydivers as they fear for him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He's not one for actively moving, but ballet seemed interesting to him and he wanted to try it out. He had no idea how intense ballet was, from strict teachers, to getting blisters on his ankles and feet, Yuki actually almost quit. What prevented him from doing so was probably watching a performance where his seniors were giving the juniors an extravagant scene to watch and they inspired Yuki to keep going.
I would have said acrobatics/gymnastics as well, but Yuki's arms aren't very strong and he doesn't like doing flashy things like that anyways (no offense...? I don't know, I haven't watched videos of this sport in years). If he did pursue acrobatics/gymnastics, I'm not sure if he'd be amazing at it, but he would definitely be decent! He's got the flare;;
Tumblr media
Running! Since he was in track for a while and was rumoured to be great at it, he would definitely be doing marathons and track alongside Sakuya. He had great speed and a stamina to match so he's a terribly good opponent to go against if you like to get pushed past your limits. If he kept pursuing track he would train during late nights and early morning with Tasuku, who has his routine jogs at those times.
Absolutely adores the sport too! His team of runners were basically second family to him, so if he chose to return, he would have the time of his life growing as a sportsman with them. He would grow into a fine and very popular runner! Hitting his growth spurt would only make him an even more fearsome competitor as his legs would get longer and his intense training with Omi and Tasuku would get his stamina maxed out.
Tumblr media
He has no time to do sports since he's always acting, so I honestly can't say what he'd do. He isn't the best runner either and extreme sports is out of the question since he's a bit of a scaredy cat. I guess he would enjoy a casual game of table tennis though? But despite liking the sport, I'm going to say that he kind of sucks at it. He understands the rules and everything, but his rhythm is off and he never manages to hit the ball back.
He's good at receiving a strike back though! He's always lucky at standing in the right spot with his paddle in the correct position to receive a smash hit, and that's basically the only time he wins a point because he catches his opponent off guard. It doesn't happen often though, so he still gets absolutely destroyed during a game of table tennis.
Tumblr media
I believe Misumi would be amazing at track & field. He runs extremely fast for one, and he does parkour like no other; he would definitely place first in sports like long jump, high jump, pole vault, and sprints. He doesn't have a particular favourite event to do though, but always does his best when someone gives him an incentive to do his best.
Izumi and Omi offer him triangle onigiri? He's going to run as fast as he can! Jump as high as he can and as far as he can! No one will be able to stop Misumi. But then again, competitive parkour is a thing, I'm pretty sure, so he can just do that sport for fun and still place in the top 3 at least. He would be terrible awesome at Ultimate Frisbee, but the disc isn't a triangle, so. :p
Tumblr media
Him? Sports? No.
I'm kidding. Do not know at all what sport he would enjoy playing, but billiards is something that suits him in my opinion. It doesn't have to be competitive, but he's greatly skilled at handling a cue stick, and his aim is impeccable. He's real lucky with trick-shots too, so don't go and start betting money with him; you'll definitely splurge all of your cash on him within seconds.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sigh. It's super annoying that he's good at everything, and sports are no exception. He plays futsal with Omi and Tasuku the most, and is very light on his feet. He's so good that during competitive games he'll do a trickshot and score, or will play around with his check and do something like dribble the ball between their legs when they're at their most vulnerable.
I'm sure he would fall in love with ice hockey, though. Ice hockey is fast paced and is a contact sport so Banri would feel free on the ice rink. Good thing is that he's pretty good looking, so he's a fan favourite player. The cold air biting into his skin as he pushes himself across the rink to get to the puck is exciting and he loves body checking opponents into the walls (this also makes him a controversial player since he plays rough and dirty).
Tumblr media
He'd be a monster at competitive martial arts. Taekwondo especially, considering his kicks come in hot and fast. His spinning kicks are ones to avoid if you go against him, but he's so quick on his feet and can kick higher than his head so you might get a quick KO if you can't read his body language fast enough. Judo is also high on the list despite it being more of a grappling and throwing sport, but Juza's quick reflexes make him a difficult opponent to beat. Normally wins a match using jiu-jitsu grappling techniques on the floor.
He would also be great at ice hockey. His large figure and quick feet would make him a great player, and his posture is always low to the ground so it wouldn't be easy to knock him over on the rink. Not exactly the best at dribbling the puck though, but give him a one-timer when he's open and he'll send that thing flying through the net. No one tries to pick fights with him on the rink though lol, he's notorious for one hit ko's.
Tumblr media
Taichi gives off the chaotic vibes of Nishinoya from Haikyu, but he would suck at volleyball so I'm giving him badminton cause height doesn't matter too much I think as long as he's quick on his feet and is able to read the body language of his opponents well. His form would be perfect though and he's super agile so getting to that shuttlecock is no problem for him. He's got a bit of muscle too so he can send those babies flying!
Doesn't really use strategy most of the time, so he'll just keep hitting and receiving the shuttlecock however he wants until his opponent tires or until someone messed up a smash. No one else in Mankai plays badminton so finding him a coach is a bit difficult. He eventually learns other ways to hit the shuttlecock, so when he learns how to slice or do drop shots, he's a little monster on the court!
Tumblr media
Oh, the sports he would play.. Obviously, he plays futsal with Tasuku unless you haven't seen his card where he's playing as goalkeeper! With that information, he would absolutely destroy volleyball teams as a middle. Now I don't know if calling middles 'middle blocker' and outside hitters 'wing spikers' is like.. a cultural thing, and I know that's what they call the players in Haikyu, but it definitely catches me off guard and really confused lol. So, yeah! Omi would be amazing as a middle in the front since he's so tall and can shuffle fast on his feet to block a front row opponent. He's like Tendou in a way where he's great at reading people, the only thing is that he's better than Tendou (no offense, I'm serious) because he doesn't need to guess. He already knows. UGH, I want to go off on volleyball (both indoor & outdoor), but this part is getting long. Lmk if you want to hear me talk more about A3! & volleyball.
American football/rugby. Don't tell me I'm wrong please, I'll cry. Both of these are a full contact sport, and looking at Omi's past and his physical structure, you can't tell me he would not obliterate everyone on the field. He is either the offensive guard or the tackle. He will not start offensive plays, but he will end defensive plays. He stops any player from tackling their centre and tackles those who try to hit a blindside. I don't know much about rugby other than it is just as rough as American Football, just with less protective gear. I'm stopping here because I'm thirsting too much for Omi rn.
Tumblr media
HOO, baby! When I looked at Sakyo, I just knew he would be able to do something with swords, so I chose kendo/fencing. Keno is a traditional martial art stemming from Japan and is practised with wooden swords. I won't say I know much about the sport, but it is definitely tense and is very noisy. Noisy because kendokas/kenshis shout whenever they strike, this is to show their spirit. Sakyo kind of hates shouting during the sport, but it definitely lets off some steam and gives him more momentum when he strikes.
I also think fencing because there are swords involved here too, it's just that it seems to be more of a European sport and has some sort of specific footwork involved. The piste may seem a bit narrow as well compared to kendo where they have a whole floor to themselves, so Sakyo doesn't practice fencing as often. (The clothing he's required to wear for this sport is also quite stifling as well.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm ngl, but I didn't know what sport to give Tsumugi, omg, so I ended up giving him cup stacking. You know, you remember; I feel like you should do some research if you don't though because cup stacking was a huge thing in the early 2000's (?) and kids were setting world records here and there non-stop. Tsumugi uses his hands a lot for things like gardening, tutoring, bouquet arranging, etc, so he's deft and talented with them.
As long as he puts his mind to it, cup stacking is a piece of cake for him. He doesn't play anymore, but every now and then he'll look at his old kit in the corner of his room and will set it up with Tasuku in the lounge room for everyone to have a go at it. He loves the thrill and the way his adrenaline runs through his veins as he focuses on trying not to mess up the stack down.
Tumblr media
HOOOO! Okay, so we already know Tasuku plays futsal so I'm not going to bother, but man.. He would be the same as Omi in volleyball; an absolute monster of a middle player. He's well rounded in the sport, so his coaches/team actually refuse to switch him out with a libero/defence specialist. His digs are almost on point with the setter, and he's always at the right spot when receiving, making sure no one gets an empty spot on the court.
When he's in the front blocking or hitting, he's almost always successful, and since he trains a lot with different drills and regimes, he perfects a lot of things like tipping, tooling, slicing, and even setting. His height added along with his vertical makes it almost impossible for opponents to block him, and when he's feeling good in a game, he'll start doing things like float serves and jump serves. If he's feeling any better, he'll play around and start doing slide hits at the front or will hit from position A on the back court (left corner facing the net). He'd also do swimming!!!!!!!!! BUT THIS IS GETTING TOO LONG
Tumblr media
Definitely would do archery/darts. He's got impeccable aim if you take evidence from his outside work chats with Banri and has no problem pulling the string on a bow. Archery is difficult and I am not lying. Pulling the string until it's taut takes a large amount of strength and it digs deep into your fingertips, leaving calluses after one or two pulls.
Figuring out the trajectory and weighing in the factors of weather (if you're outside) takes a lot of skill and practice, and Hisoka always manages to hit the centre of the target with no hesitancy with his release of the string. His hands are all rough from the string digging into his fingers all the time, showing you how long he's been practising the sport.
Tumblr media
I don't think Homare was very athletic growing up. I'm saying this only because his body type is quite lean and he's a poet after all who seems to stay inside more often than not if he isn't meeting with an editor/publisher. I think figure skating would suit him very well as it is an elegant and cold weathered sport. I also think he would fall in love with the suits if Yuki made them as they'd sparkle brilliantly and show off his flare as a skater.
He figure skates as a casual hobby rather than competitive, but he definitely makes a lot of famous friends in the community due to his whimsical personality and beautiful posture.
Tumblr media
Kyudo (Japanese archery) was a sport that popped into my mind for Azuma, despite the strain it puts on the skin of his fingertips. His skin is very delicate with how much he takes care of it, so he wears a glove on his dominant hand to protect him. Kyudo seems to be more of a peaceful archery, and with the sight of Azuma in the kyudo uniform, the scene in front of you would be quite serene and calming.
I also think he would be great at figure skating since his body is lithe and he has lovely facial features that would complement the body suits that Yuki would create for him. His long hair flowing in the breeze he creates as he glides throughout the rink would be gorgeous along with the way his body looks as he does an axle in the air. His performances on the rink are always mesmerising, and he'll receive a few claps from fellow rink goers when he's in the centre just casually practising.

I can ask for a request on how Brahms, Jason, Bubba, Michael, Vincent and Bo will react with a Brazilian! Reader?
I'll do my best, I hope you enjoy these!
Brahms Heelshire-
Brahms has never met anyone anyone from Brazil before, he's barely met any people from outside the UK. He's instantly fascinated.
Prepare to get a LOT of questions, Brahms doesn't have much of a filter once he gets started asking, and he'll want to know everything.
I really hope you know a lot of folklore or tales from Brazil, because Brahms will bug you to tell him some of them right before bed.
Jason Voorhees-
Always eager to learn more things about you and your life. Tell him everything about Brazil, because he's never been and doesn't really travel far away from Camp Crystal Lake often.
Jason's very interested in learning about the country, particularly its wildlife. Bring up photos on your phone of some of the birds and he'll be awestruck.
He's just such a good guy when it comes to you, and if you ever feel homesick or want things to be more like they are at your home, he'll be more than happy to change up the cabin the two of you live in so you're happy with it.
Bubba Sawyer-
Bubba has probably honestly never heard of Brazil, I feel like he doesn't have much knowledge of the outside world. Only countries he probably knows the name of are the United States, Mexico, Vietnam, and maybe sometimes he remembers Canada.
Bubba will gladly try any foods you make, though he's always a little bit unsure about any meals without meat. Once he actually tries it, he'll love it.
Really enjoys listening to music, not as much as his brother Chop Top, but he's very enthusiastic. Even if he can't understand the words, it doesn't matter if it has a nice beat. Bubba will grab your hands and get you to dance with him.
Michael Myers-
Doesn't really seem to care at first, but he does deep down. If he sees something he thinks will remind you of Brazil, he'll steal it for you.
Michael picks up a few words, but it's hard to tell how much he actually knows since he's not very talkative. Definitely knows more than he lets on though.
Like Bubba, he's very into the food. If you have anything traditionally cooked, it won't last long when he's around.
Vincent Sinclair-
Like Brahms, he's very interested in the folklore. He'll try to make sculptures or paintings of the stories that really interest him.
Vincent's always been a quick learner, if you want to teach him Portuguese, he'll pick up on it before you know it. Doesn't talk much, but he'll leave you lots of hand written notes. He'd prefer if you don't teach his brothers, so it can be just between you and him.
Vincent just jumps full into it. He'll want to hear music, watch Brazilian films, learn literally everything he can to make him feel closer to you and your heritage. He'll try to not overwhelm you.
Bo Sinclair-
Bo is the most knowledgeable about Brazil of any of the guys on here. Granted, most of his knowledge is related to the Carnival and what he's seen in movies, but he's not completely clueless like Bubba.
Doesn't really like anyone touching his radio, but when he's feeling particularly in a good mood, he'll put in a CD of Brazilian tunes he picked up one day after he decided to keep you around. It's no Marilyn Manson, but he can get into it, and certainly sees the appeal!
You may or may not know Jiu-Jitsu, but he'd certainly want to learn it. Anything to help him better incapacitate people.

Why Webtoon!Suho is Superior and K-Drama!Suho Needs To Catch Up 👏
Hello, everyone!
Am I here again with another semi-controversial meta? Why, I might be.
If you’d like to catch up with my last meta, which was: Thoughts On True Beauty and Why I’m On Team Suho, you’re going to get a whole butt-load of information on why I’m mostly a Lee Suho-simp, thank you very much.
With that said, to cut the story short, I’ll be listing down some points I’ll be bringing up on this particular topic. Feel free to skip some points if that’s your cup of tea, or if you’re just cruising and find that the points I’m bringing up are not of your interest at all and you’re scrolling by? That’s fine too!
If you’re sticking around though, thank you!
The Points:
Intro: What Do I Mean?           a.k.a. What’s The Deal With Suho (Again)?
Webtoon!Suho vs. KDrama!Suho           Is K-Drama Suho ‘Mary Sue’?
Why K-Drama!Suho Needs To Step Up
How K-Drama Lowkey Didn’t Capture Seojun and Suho’s Friendship
Conclusion: #TeamJugyeong
Full disclosure: I absolutely, completely adore True Beauty — both the drama and webtoon — and this is purely written from my own point of view, based on the thoughts I’ve accumulated by my own deductions. There certainly will be criticism, but mostly I just want to put it out there to hear out what others are also objectively thinking about this. So, let’s go!
I will try to make this one short, but let’s see how this goes :D
Now.
Intro: What Do I Mean? a.k.a. What’s The Deal With Suho (Again)?
To start this, if you’ve read my first meta, then you would know first-hand that I’m completely fascinated with Suho. That is, the webtoon version that’s been presented of him. I find him intriguing for a character that is quite “dull” — but only because that dullness played a part more than just him being a “cool” and “distant” character.
I’ve mentioned before that I do critically think Suho is clinically depressed. It’s actually proven in the original Webtoon that, especially after Seyeon’s death, he went to a therapist and was taking medications for it. Though I’m not quite sure if he’s still following any medical routine in this current arc (the adult arc), we do see a recurring theme in Suho wherein he seemed to struggle with finding any proper passion, it became an important plot device when it was made clear to him that “he never tried hard enough [for anything]”. and him falling back into a certain habit (studying) to avoid the sadness.
(I’m not quite sure the exact quote, but it’s been mentioned again that he was studying to distract himself when his sister confronted him about it.)
I find the way the author portrayed what I’ve perceived as a protagonist with this prominent mental illness was quite refreshing? Not in the way that it glorified the mental illness or the trauma Suho was experiencing which some authors or dramas tend to do, no — what the author had planted was precise, it was realistic.
Suho struggled in a way that’s consistent (from his teen years up to his adulthood, I mean), but you can’t really tell. And that’s the thing with mental illness, a lot of the time, we don’t really see it – but it’s there. In Suho’s case particularly, it doesn’t just go away when Seyeon’s death was finally accepted and the friendship between Seojun and Suho were amended. It’s still there.
That’s quite intricate for the author to do, isn’t it?
Of course, there is so much more to Suho — which I think I’ll be implying here and there throughout this meta — but if you’d like to read more on it, the first meta is just me fangirling from the start till the end.
Now that that’s over with...
Webtoon!Suho vs. KDrama!Suho
I think I briefly mentioned that, for a moment there, I was kinda scared — but also superbly interested and excited – when they announced that True Beauty will be adapted to a drama.
For the first few episodes, especially episodes 1 - 6, it was super engaging, it was sweet, and the chemistry between the casts were absolutely *chef’s kiss*
Now, episode seven was where it went a little downhill for me.
I’ve always had a slight problem with how they’ve portrayed Suho being a “fighter” — that is, him picking up Jiu Jitsu in the drama.
Now, I know! I know! I have the same thought — the drama and the webtoon are two completely different adaptions that really mirrored one another based on characters and premise, and that’s about it. I’ve made peace with that, I enjoyed it even! But I was still a bit iffy about this particular trait because, for me particularly, it was important for me that Suho wasn’t perfect.
And guess what? He wasn’t.
In the webtoon, Suho can’t fight. The one time Seyeon and him almost got into a fight when they were in middle school, Seojun was the one who actually had experience in street fighting or brawling to defeat the bullies. And this is quite important, especially if you’ve been a writer or an author or, hell, even an audience to these mediums, “perfect” characters can often become “mary sue”.
But the thing about the k-drama is, Suho’s ability to fight was purposeful — which was why it was okay for me in the end. It was a way to introduce his father and the strained in relationship they had, he faced foes several times, and, most importantly, he had to protect Jugyeong (karaoke scene).
Now that I’ve seen (SPOILER FOR PREVIEW EPISODE 9) that he could also be musically-inclined? ...yikes. And, yes, okay, I get it! The actor is an idol, so it’s a great homage to his career, but it was still...
It felt like the writers were desperate to fill the gaps for Suho possibly being “dull” as this typical cool and distant character — when, in reality, Suho’s existence as is was quite enough. He didn’t need to steal Seojun’s fighting ability, and he especially didn’t need to rob Seyeon’s musical passion too, to be interesting and have depths of his own, do you get me?
In fact, he was without all of that, and his romance — however short-lived — with Jugyeong was still so sweet and enjoyable in the webtoon. And that’s the appeal of Suho, I think; Suho doesn’t need to be “more” for Jugyeong (like, all he did was study and read horror comics with Jugyeong), just as Jugyeong doesn’t have to appear “more” (with her make-up etc) for them to be interesting to each other. They like one another in spite all of that.
To be honest, if they had made the room about Suho’s mom, which would've thrown people off because “aren’t we still stuck in the Seyeon Arc”?, that’d be an interesting plot line since I have a feeling that the webtoon will be using that as a major plot device soon BUUUUUUT that’s a theory for another day! So—
Why 👏 K-Drama!Suho 👏 Needs 👏 To 👏 Step 👏 Up 👏👏👏
Because, honey, being unnecessarily possessive doesn’t look good on you.
I’m so, SO GLAD that Seojun actually talked some sense into him! Seojun’s absolutely right! In the end, it’s up to Jugyeong who she will choose as her romantic partner! All this, him-walking-in-and-demanding-Jugyeong-to-come-to-him-in-the-slightest-chance-she’ll-be-going-out-with-another-guy is getting boring. And you know what, my guy, you haven’t even asked her out or anything! (Besides from THAT scene at the end of Ep 8, you know what I mean lol)
Like, I didn’t mind when he was just following her because he was curious and jealous, and that led him to quietly “put a stop” to Jugyeong's blind date because the man obviously had bad intentions. I also understood when he threatened Semi Lee’s boyfriend into apologising. That’s fine - while he was manipulating the situation, it wasn’t exactly him telling and/or demanding Jugyeong to blindly follow him and/or go with him or anything.
I actually find it so, so sweet when it became a common phrase between them for Suho to always ask Jugyeong how she’s doing ( “Are you okay?” ) because that’s essentially what his character builds up to: this protector, that goes beyond keeping Jugyeong’s bare-face a secret. He’s really out there making sure Jugyeong is safe, and that’s okay!
That was the character he was establishing to be.
But then the writers pulled out this obsessive and possessive jerk out of their ass? That isn’t Suho. That’s contradicting through the whole build-up of Suho and Jugyeong’s characters from episode one to six. The whole point of why they leaned on one another is because they trust each other so, so, so much.
But in episode seven, Suho was falsely blaming Jugyeong (for sleeping when he was the one who napped) just because he’s “flustered”, taking it out on her when the baseball player just asked for her number (which, well, was understandably creepy, but like, chill bro); and in episode eight, Suho was glaring at Jugyeong the whole time just because he thinks she’s ignoring him and she was around Seojun so much?
Dude....... you never even apologised for those words that you knew hurt Jugyeong in episode 5.
Suho, babes, I love you, but - no.
I get so frustrated because ‘anger’ was never Suho’s default expression; he never truly has a temper. That was always more of Seojun’s trait and it worked with Seojun because it’s consistent throughout his character (in the webtoon). The few times Suho was actually angry to the point of nearly instigating violence in the webtoon are only because he’s pushed by this deep sadness [over the loss of Seyeon].
Rather than a glare in the scene in the beginning of the camp, it’d be more in-character if Suho’d looked like a sad puppy. Because if anything, wouldn’t Suho feel threatened since he has this deep-rooted belief that he doesn’t deserve happiness (a canon line admitted by Suho, himself, in webtoon, and spoken by Seojun towards Suho in K-Drama) and therefore, would have this inferioty complex and would never think Jugyeong would be interested in him? Which was why she’s going to Seojun a lot?
Now, let’s talk about Seojun.
How K-Drama Lowkey Didn’t Capture Seojun and Suho’s Friendship
I think one of the most prominent thing about Seojun and Suho’s friendship was how much they respected one another — especially when it came to their shared love interest in Jugyeong.
This K-Drama? (Sighs) Butchered it a little? Yeah.
Which isn’t wrong, no! But I felt like... firstly, it’s overdue; it’s making Suho look really, really not pretty (character-wise) next to Seojun, which I think is a misstep for the production because shouldn’t your male lead be persistently desirable? (But I didn’t mind lol, my heart is half-rooting for Seojun already *sighs dreamily*); and it really, most importantly, hurt the absolute loyalty and pureness that Suho and Seojun shared together in the webtoon.
Because when Seojun knew that Suho and Jugyeong liked each other? He backed off. He did. He didn’t say one word — not even a slip of a tongue — about his feelings towards Jugyeong.
But Suho somewhat knew, right? And he backed off when he knew he was disappointing Jugyeong by his departure. He makes way for Seojun to be there, however he can be, for Jugyeong while he’s not around. And when they started dating, Seojun and Jugyeong? Suho was supportive throughout.
He was never jealous, there was never one instance where he showed his dislike, and even when Jugyeong casted doubt or talked with Suho about her relationship problems, Suho was always rooting for the both of them. He wanted them to work.
They were all excellent friends.
I understand why and how the K-Drama ended up the way they did currently at episode eight, but in my opinion, I feel like it’s a bit disrespectful to the true friendship that Seojun and Suho shared in the webtoon only to present them as these unending rivals when... when you think about it, it isn’t really Seojun and Suho?
Cause obviously webtoon!Seojun and webtoon!Suho, once they’ve made up that is, were extremely reliable towards one another; they were very encouraging (besides from the slight hiccup when Seojun got a bit jealous); and they were incredibly loyal and understanding of one another’s situation.
I hope we’ll see glimpses of it more in the future, ‘cause I’d pay for nice and slightly-realistic progression of friendship that’s somehow mixed up with romance and how these people are coping with it, rather than just seeing two boys glare at one another while my girl Jugyeong just wanted to go to the toilet 😆
Conclusion #TeamJugyeong
I just want this girl to stop being pushed-and-pulled and happy, man.
I’m still looking forward to more of the episodes and the webtoon, though! I still love the casts, the production, the way the story is flowing so far (because I wanna know what’s gonna happen, you know?) but I do think Suho could’ve been written a bit better? Or, at least, with a bit more consistency?
Or, I mean, maybe he could just start apologising for every reckless actions rather than him getting away with it because he saved Jugyeong? Maybe?
I really still adore him, and I’m still rooting so much for Suho because the times when he was alone with her, he was super sweet? And immediately the sincerity and the core of what made Jugyeong and Suho so appealing to me just came out? Like he has that potential that webtoon!Suho is already at.
I love them so much, ugh.
(Although Seojun, bro, I’m lowkey on your side too. That bracelet he did for her was 💗💗💗💗💗)
I hope everyone’s doing well, keeping each other safe, and if my head’s running wild again, I’ll keep you posted akdjksjhskdhf
Thank you so much for reading!!!!

Two Years of Blue
It's been a bit since I updated here, since I suppose I mainly use my instagram account to talk about jiu jitsu. But hey, I have a few things to mull over, which tends to go better in writing, so here we are. Content warning for weight on this one.
I've been a blue belt for two years! And what a wild two years — I did change up my gym, and then, hey, there was this pandemic that ground the world to a halt (and is still doing so). I was very, very lucky, since I was able to train with Viki pretty much the whole time. We had access to mats, and were able to train, and they taught me a great deal: a lot of gi stuff, a ton of leg locks (I never went for them, or defended them well, until I basically just rolled with them for a year), and so much detail in passing and retaining guard.
Viki is a long, lanky blue belt, and I like to think I taught them a bit too. Maybe.
But of course, even with rolling during lockdown and tons of other cross-training, it took me awhile — really, a few months — to feel a bit more in the groove with jiu jitsu again. We started going back to limited, vaxxed sessions starting in March, and slowly started going back to the gym normally as everyone else got vaxxed up. I'm finally going 3-4 days per week, consistently. This past week, I think I trained grappling every day aside from Wednesday. It's mid-July, which means it's taken me that whole time to feel like I'm getting there.
I'm also competing again in just under two weeks, which has (as it typically does) lit a little fire under me to get my shit together. Or attempt to!
One thing that did help, certainly, was doing a lot of cardio the whole time, and  focusing on getting that to a good place. All winter I did a lot of running, and yes, here it is... a lot of indoor cycling on a [cough, whisper] peleton. I know this makes me a bougie asshole. I know. But the workouts — on the bike and very much on the treadmill — are actually great. The running workouts with at least two of the coaches are appropriate for actual competitive runners. I've done workouts there that were extremely close to things I did as a competitive XC athlete in college. Back when I was actually fast. Fast-ish. I'm not fast anymore. Not even a tiny bit.
But my running is much improved, and the cycling has been an incredible, incredible base for me. I'm routinely doing longer or more challenging rides on non-BJJ days, and then often a shorter ride (or one of the functional strength routines) on days I roll at the gym. My whole thing with it is doing hard cardio when I'm already tired, so I get very used to pushing through. Endurance has never been my problem, but I know that I get slower physically — and, far worse, *super* discouraged mentally — when I get tired.
Doing this much cycling has had a hilarious and, uh, probably obvious side effect: I actually put on a little bit of muscle. I went into the whole Peleton thing thinking "yeah, I'll do cardio twice a day, and lose that stubborn couple of pounds that make competing at 125 dicey in like a month, easy!" and, HA. No.
What I did get, though, are leg muscles that don't fatigue as fast. I have much more power and energy than I used to, and, hand-to-heart, I don't think I was in bad shape before. It's just... better now.
That took a couple of weeks to accept, I'll be honest. I felt pretty dumb: of fucking course spending... let's say 8 hours a week doing HIIT or climb rides on a bike would build muscle. I’d gain some weight from that, naturally. But now, I'm honestly thrilled to feel comfortable and much stronger at 135 anyway.
That's where I was always going to be for grappling industries (where there's a 120 and a 135, nothing in between), and where there are 125 lb classes... it's honestly ok. I have a healthy diet, I stick to it rigorously (with the occasional cheat day, ofc), I do cardio almost every day, and I feel good. Will I be a little shortie in this weight class? Of course! But at least I feel like a stronger little shortie, and that's what counts.
As with all of this, let me be clear, I have no delusions of grandeur. This is an awesome hobby that I'm obsessed with! But I only want to compete to learn and get better and do it all on a pretty comfortable level. I'm probably never going to fuck with the open IBJJF tournaments, or anything like that. Give me a nice submission-only tournament for scrubs like me. (Honestly, I wish everything was just submission only. Forever.)
There are actual, legit athletes who use the baby tournaments for a tune-up, and young folks who may become legit athletes who are learning to compete and deal with pressure, probably just because this is NYC and there are world-class gyms here and all that. This 37-year-old goofy white bitch just wants to get as good as possible, given the obvious constraints. And enjoy myself.
To this end, my friends, coaches, and training partners deserve medals for dealing with me. Berto and Jaime (my friends and coaches) have been patiently leading me towards things I need to work on. Viki will roll with me and give me things I need to do based on our roll, and we'll drill them right then and there. And Caroline has been instrumental in me getting my head at least part of the way out of my ass, just going for things. For months, I was rolling, but just playing defense. Just talking to her about it helped, and now, every time we roll, I have that voice in my head telling me to go for things. It's helping.
I just hope I can keep that in mind in two weeks. I get nervous. Really, really nervous. I've competed... this might be nine times? This will be my third blue belt tournament, anyway, and it'll be the first since... January 2020. My head is usually so far up my ass — especially at first — that I will probably make some dumbass mistakes. But I'm working on accepting that I'll feel like an idiot and to just have fun with it and use it to LEARN and find some new things to work on. Embrace the doofus and enjoy.
Gym Feelings
I also got very, very excited about my gym yesterday. Right before going to a (fantastic) Women/trans/non-binary folks Judo class taught by a really great woman black belt, I went on about how much I love my gym. How inclusive it is, and how, just *not a toxic MMA culture* place it is. I'm just going to copy a bunch of that thread here, just absolutely gushing about Chop and Chops:
Today, in a couple of hours, I'm going to a women/trans/nonbinary grappling class at my gym, taught by a woman Judo black belt. I'm PUMPED.
It's really important to me that my MMA gym is an inclusive, positive environment for me and for everyone. MMA -- and especially Jiu Jitsu -- does NOT need to be a place dominated by bros with awful politics and horrific tattoos. It can be for anyone to enjoy.
The door to my gym has a trans-inclusive rainbow flag on it. The brothers who run it make sure that all women, trans folks, enbies, and any GNC folks feels especially comfortable and have dependable training partners for each class, especially if they are new.
Here's another thing -- its' an MMA gym, there are plenty of cis dudes! But said dudes are respectful and gracious. I feel safe training with them BECAUSE of the atmosphere and attitude of the place, that's certainly not true everywhere.
One of my favorite training partners rn is a very, very sweet bigger white belt due who wrestled at a high level. If you've done BJJ, "bigger white belt who wrestled" is typically the scariest thing. But he is an absolute gentleman, doesn't just throw his weight around...
he is conscientious and I am learning SO MUCH from rolling with him. Again, in another atmosphere, I might be intimidated. In our gym, people learn to train hard but modulate and always respect their training partners.
I know I'm gushing at this point, lol. But I really can't overstate how much that atmosphere of respect and inclusivity is important and makes a massive difference. I'm a small queer woman, training there simply feels great to me, and that's everything.
That's the thread! I can't say enough good things about this place. It's also honestly a refuge for me, a place where I see my friends (where we all hug very aggressively for a couple hours, then chitchat). I guess it all comes down to this: I'm so, so lucky to be a part of this community. I want everyone in the world to have something they love, and amazing people to support them in it/enjoy it with them.
