omg wait- please give us your thoughts botw women!
im skipping zelda because i talk about her all the time but this is mipha, urbosa (and riju), impa, and purah lol. it's LONG so prepare yourself
mipha. ive said before that i think she was done dirty by the writers in that all of her characterization revolves around men. and i stand by that. i generally dislike the archetype of a physically small, softspoken female supporting character whose only role in the story is as a protector or healer--someone for the male characters to bounce their feelings off of. and i think mipha very often falls into this trope. with that being said, i do still think there is room for a nuanced analysis of her character because there IS nuance there it just gets lost a lot of the time because of how she's written. When thinking about her it's important to remember how zora age in relationship to humans. after a lot of math i place her at around 60ish years old physically, with that being the zora equivalent of a 14-16 year old hylian. she is INCREDIBLY young by zora standards but physically, she has lived longer than almost every non-zora she will ever meet. because of this, there's this dissonance between the way her family and kingdom view her vs the way her friends and colleagues view her. We see it most obviously in the champion's ballad dlc--when zelda speaks to mipha about piloting a divine beast, she speaks as though she's talking to an adult. but mipha's father is convinced she is far too young and inexperienced for this role. Mipha, in turn, is caught between these two differing perceptions of herself, to the point where she doesn't really KNOW what she's supposed to be. she takes on a protective role for those younger than her (sidon and link, specifically) and does her best to support zelda where she can, knowing that zelda likely views her as a senior, but she also often vant disguise the fact that she's still a child herself. she plays with sidon in the waterfall. she has a very childish, innocent schoolgirl crush on link. she's caught in between these two perceptions of herself and because she is, for all intents and purposes, mentally fifteen years old, she doesn't quite know how to handle it. The fact that zora live on a totally different time scale compared to other hyrulian races isn't something that would normally pose much of a struggle for them, because zora's domain is deliberately isolated from those other races. zora could likely go a generation or two without ever needing to interact with non-zora at all, beyond the occasional stray traveler. (remember how when you're working your way towards zora's domain post-calamity, you meet a bunch of zora who are super excited to see a hylian at all? most of those zora look to be in early adulthood, meaning by my math they'd be about a hundred years old. post-calamity, zora's domain clearly returns to that same brand of isolation, so most of these zora have probably never interacted with a hylian at all.) but because mipha happened to be born into such a turbulent era, she finds herself having to interact with these other races more than basically any zora ruler might have had to for the past several thousand years. which is why she has so much trouble with link. from her perspective, he changes SO fast. she meets him one day a wide-eyed child and the next he comes back to her a silent, traumatized soldier. she's hardly aged a day but he has experienced a lifetime of things she can't begin to understand and she has NO IDEA how to talk to him anymore. When they interact, she switches awkwardly between treating him like the child she knew and attempting to fix the trauma he's been through without her, but it's always with the goal of getting things BACK TO THE WAY THEY WERE. she is completely incapable of moving on from the past relationship with link that she remembers because as far as she's concerned, it's only been a miniscule amount of time since then. due to the nature of her race, mipha is basically doomed to be stuck in a past that link can never return to. god. i wish they explored her character more in-game im going to lose my mind
urbosa is SUCH a good character. agh. her narrative purpose is essentially to be an actual POSITIVE mentor to zelda, which. let's be honest. without her that poor girl would absolutely not have made it to seventeen. jesus christ. Anyways urbosa is everything zelda wants to be. A strong, independent, powerful ruling force that her people rely on and look to in times of need. she is completely self-assured and confident and she is quite honestly literally the only positive influence on zelda's life. Urbosa is a character well into adulthood, who we can assume has long since grown into herself and found her way. Which is why she is SUCH an important character for zelda, yes, but for ALL the young champions who are just. so desperate for a positive force in their lives. She's so GOOD at what she does, too. urbosa is a woman who was meant to be a mother in one way or another, i think, because the way she handles the kids she's working with is really thoughtful and well-done, ESPECIALLY when compared to the other dogshit adults in their lives. She allows zelda more compassion than anyone else has ever seen fit to give her, and when zelda DOES mess up, urbosa offers gentle but firm redirection. (in aoc specifically, she notices zelda comparing herself to link and immediately shuts it down, WITHOUT making zelda feel stupid or inferior.) she does the exact same thing, albeit less overtly, with link, who she obviously has a lot of compassion for despite being kind of at odds with him over zelda. I think she and link are actually incredibly similar characters--stubborn, a little bit showy, and generally unwilling to admit defeat in any situation. She's uniquely positioned to be able to relate to both him AND zelda, as a ruler AND a soldier. And i think she's completely aware of how similar she is to link, which is why when she pushes him, she does it in a calculated way so that he never takes it as a challenge or an attack. she never outright tells him "this is why zelda dislikes you, you need to work on your communication skills" she talks to him about zelda's childhood in plain terms because she knows that breaking down link's mental wall between himself and zelda by evoking empathy is the way to get the two of them to fucking COMMUNICATE WITH EACH OTHER. i really think every game should have an overwhelmingly positive female mentor figure like urbosa. she is so good
in relation to urbosa, we then have riju, the youngest and only female of the new champions. she is fourteen years old and she has been thrust into a position of leadership and she works so hard to project that same confidence and maturity that was urbosa's staple. and to her credit she ALMOST gets there but she's fourteen and no fourteen year old is capable of performing adulthood perfectly. Riju's projected personality feels very much like she's regurgitating stories she was told about her ancestors. Urbosa was strong, urbosa was fearless, urbosa commanded lightning, urbosa stepped up to serve the knight and princess when asked. but, crucially, urbosa was not fourteen. riju's insecurities about filling urbosa's shoes are incredibly evident, but she seems to do her best work when she drops the pretense and acts as herself. there's a reason she had us fight naboris on sand seals--they're a source of comfort to her. something she KNOWS she can act confident about. there was no acting involved in her pursuit of naboris--she KNEW she was good with that seal. there's also something to be said about the successor to urbosa, the mentor, being an inexperienced little girl. riju clings to the stories of the champion chief who came before her because she desperately needs a mentor. I wish urbosa could meet her for real she deserves a mom
impa. i. well i wish 90% of her characterization didn't come from hyrule warriors bc i honestly dont like how she was written all that much. i think they had a really strong framework to build off of in botw but aoc just kind of. took it in a direction i wasn't a huge fan of. anyway. impa is sheikah, a race descended from the original protectors of the goddess hylia. Interestingly, in botw the sheikah have been almost completely integrated into hylian society, with kakariko village being mostly sheikah who live like regular hylians. it seems like very few of them actually follow the ways of their ancestors, in contrast to other games where sheikah were only ever warrior bodyguards of the goddess hylia's bloodline. Impa is, presumably, one of the few sheikah who continues to follow the teachings of her ancestors and serve the royal family. this... honestly causes a dillemma if you think about it for more than a few seconds, because, since most sheikah live as regular citizens now, in place of sheikah bodyguards the hylian royal family has an extensive royal guard, eliminating the need for sheikah warriors like impa almost entirely. i can only assume this is why she was relegated to basically 'haha funny quirky ninja sidekick' in hyrule warriors. but personally i think it would have been much more interesting to use this as a commentary on the state of hyrule and even to give her some more obvious internal conflict!! hyrule has until now been in a ten thousand year era of peace. it's no wonder most sheikah settled down and gave up on the whole bodyguard thing. they might have even believed there wasn't going to be another demise incarnation for them to take action against, especially after ten thousand years without any whisper of conflict. to most sheikah, pursuing their traditional martial arts and continuing to serve the royal family would likely begin to feel like a waste of time. for some reason, though, impa didn't feel this way. ten thousand years after the last conflict between demise and hylia's descendants, impa still chooses to train as a sheikah warrior and serve the royal family. why?? my personal headcanon is that she was drawn to the myth of ancient hyrule in the same way that purah was drawn to its technology. purah is the more obvious nerd of the sisters, but i think impa's choice to pursue sheikah martial arts HAD to have its basis in an interest in the creation myth. She is also one of the few characters in botw who explicitly KNOWS and can convey to you the myth in its entirety, or at least, as much of the myth as had survived by the time she began studying it. So here we have a young sheikah girl who is incredibly interested in her own culture as it relates to the myth of hyrule and she's basically singlehandedly attempting to revive a part of it that's been nearly completely lost, all amidst this incredibly tense political environment in which her peoples' past inventions are also being dug up and revived by the royal family with like... seemingly very little care to the context in which they were made or why they might have been buried in the first place. like, in this climate which shows a subtle but obvious disregard for her culture, impa is loudly, deliberately returning to her roots. that's SO INTERESTING!! if aoc had leaned into it more, we could have had moments where impa contemplates her place among the royal guardsmen and the champions--she's not quite one of them, but they have a mutual goal and, in the case of the champions, their lives are all deeply intertwined with the myth of hyrule; or even a bit of commentary on the political climate of hyrule pre-calamity and how fucking horrible it was. i REALLY wish they had explored this more it could have been so cool
PURAH. people think im insane when i tell them shes in my top five loz characters of all time but i am literally obsessed with her i dont care that shes a random new addition to botw only. i think she is a really interesting way to introduce and lead into the idea of ancient sheikah technology. considering how important ancient sheikah tech is to the worldbuilding of botw, giving the player a sheikah scientist guide to walk you through it all is a smart way to go about introducing it. beyond that, though, i think as a character she serves as a reminder of hyrule before the calamity--cheerful and carefree despite the obvious dark implications of her actions. when you first go to meet her you find out along the way that the kids in hateno are scared of her; they think she's a ghost or something along those lines. she is eccentric and strange and she just sort of... glosses over the entire series of events that led both her and link to their present situation, because by de-aging herself, accidentally or not, she has become stuck perpetually in the mindset of pre-calamity hyrule. She still views sheikah tech as something interesting to be studied and played with while most sane people in hyrule view it as nothing but an incredible danger. she's super intelligent, but can't quite break out of the scientist mentality enough to acknowledge the harm the tech she so obviously loves is capable of causing. the de-aging and the bubbly personality are likely a coping mechanism, i think, though maybe not a conscious one. she's remaining frozen in time forever, deliberately refusing to think about the damage she might have caused. I don't think she's ENTIRELY in denial though, if only because she helps link when he asks for it. she's been waiting for a hundred years, never quite sure if the shrine of resurrection worked or if she laid link to rest forever in that cave, so she does whatever she can to keep living, preparing for the worst. When link DOES reappear, it's a genuine shock, to the point that she cant quite let go of the denial she's been using to keep herself going for the past 100 years. but just because she expected the worst doesn't mean she can't work with a better outcome, it just means she isn't quite prepared to deal with it perfectly, which is why she seems frozen in time when you interact with her in botw.

mipha (she/her) is transfem and though i dont have evidence for this one (in fact my evidence for sidon is. directly contradictory) im still right she told me herself /j
teba (he/they) is bi and polyam him and saki are also dating harth. i think hes cis adjacent but they/them wouldnt kill a guy
revali (he/him) is a trans gay man that's just canon /j. nothing else to say about him
saving the Gorons for last bc they have a different relationship w gender
urbosa (she/her) is a lesbian her and zeldas mom were in love im right she told me herself
riju (they/she) is a child actually. complicated relationship w gender bc of gerudo town
OK NOW FOR THE GORONS important thing to note they just dont have gender at least not in the way the rest of hyrule does so by earthly standards they're all nonbinary

botw/aoc characters ranked on how i think id do in a fistfight with them
idea from @zazora who did this with lu (loved your post btw!!)
daruk - 0/10 i am losing this. i am dead. i am beat to a pulp ground into the floor screaming crying throwing up
urbosa - 1/10 i would not fight her she’s too sexy and i respect her too much. but if we did fight she would definitely win
link - 3/10 seems like the kind of fight i’d go into thinking i could win because of his size (i’m taller than him and i’m quite short lmao) however given his practical skill he’s definitely winning this. pre calamity 100% winning on skill bc of knight training, post calamity winning on some muscle memory skill and also just. my man is feral by that point.
impa - 5/10 i think this would be an even match strength wise but she seems like she’d know some kind of sheikah martial art so in terms of skill she’d best me
mipha - 6/10 even match, would probably be a tie: i think i would be a bit stronger than her and i’m a little taller (she’s the same height as link) but she would probably have more technical skill than me
revali - 8/10 technically a good fighter but i hate this bitch so much i think i could win from pure rage alone. i’ll zip tie his beak shut and i’ll come at his feathers with scissors. he’s not winning i would rather die than lose to this bastard. also i feel like most of his skill is bow and arrows so in a fist fight he’s useless. what’s he going to do flap in my face?
zelda - 9/10 yeah i’m sorry but i’m going to win this one. zelda i love you but there is little to no physical strength here. her one advantage could be her height but i feel like i might be able to use that by just ducking under her arms
king roam bosphoramus hyrule - 10/10 physically he would win because he’s fucking huge, but emotionally i would win. i think i could taunt and outrage this man to the point of tears and i’d enjoy doing it. also even though he’s big i think he’d have no physical combat knowledge apart from using a sword.
astor - 11/10 down. so fast. one punch he’s on the floor

Game Review — Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity
Well, it’s that time. While some might already know at least a good chunk of my feelings due to one or two posts I’ve made while playing, I’ve now beaten the newest Hyrule Warriors game (at least in terms of the main story + secret ending) and I think it’s time for me to write up a review.
Tumblr media
Overall Score: 5.5/10
I know there are probably at least a few Legend of Zelda fans out there who want to tear me apart right now, but I urge them to actually read everything I have to say before they do. I’ve been a fan of this series since I was nine years old (I started with Ocarina of Time and Link’s Awakening simultaneously), and while my favorite Zelda game was Majora’s Mask for a very long time, Breath of the Wild unseated it and also took the spot as my favorite video game of all time, period. Thus, my expectations for this game were already pretty high, and the fact that Nintendo lied in the marketing . . . well, we’ll get to that. But overall the point that I’m trying to make is that I am a diehard Legend of Zelda fan, and I did like the original Hyrule Warriors as well, so this isn’t a case of “she just doesn’t like Zelda” or “she just doesn’t like Hyrule Warriors.” I promise my opinions are more educated than that. So with that said, let’s get to it (under a cut / on my blog for formatting reasons).
The Pros:
The little touches to make sure that Age of Calamity felt like it belonged in the same realm as Breath of the Wild made my heart sing the moment I first played the demo. Hearing the same menu sounds, seeing the same UI — all of that made me feel like I was returning home, and I really hadn’t realized just how much I missed the world of Breath of the Wild until that moment. While it is a Hyrule Warriors game for sure, it’s clear that they didn’t want to make it “Hyrule Warriors 2″ as much as they wanted to make it a Zelda game befitting Breath of the Wild, and I really appreciated the respect that went into that.
Overall, the voice acting was pretty top notch. Zelda’s voice still bothers me—there are times when she sounds okay, but I still wish they’d chosen a different actress to voice her—and Riju’s voice was a little weird, but overall the voice acting was just as good as it was in Breath of the Wild and I was happy to see every single cutscene voiced.
They put a lot of effort into giving everyone distinctive playstyles, even when it came to two characters of the same race who use the same weapons (e.g. Revali and Teba). The Neo Champions weren’t just clones of the previous Champions; rather, they stood out in their playstyle so that while you might like playing as one, perhaps you don’t like the other as much. (For instance, I hated playing as Revali, but Teba was very fun to play as.) And while I did stick with Link most of the time, there were enough characters that I really enjoyed playing as that it was no problem at all to me when I needed to switch characters mid-battle. In particular, I really loved playing as Impa and Urbosa aside from Link, with Riju, Zelda, and Teba as backups.
The music was incredible, but that’s to be expected from a Zelda game, let’s be honest. Of particular note is this track, which filled my heart with awe every time I heard it due to the inclusion of the Song of the Hero (seriously, when that choir kicks in at about 1:45 . . . [chef’s kiss]). But really, the entire soundtrack was incredible. I don’t think there was a single bad song. Which, again, is typical of a Zelda game, but I still feel it bears note.
Being able to pilot the Divine Beasts was AWESOME, no doubt about it. The best one (in my opinion) was Vah Naboris, followed by Vah Medoh. Vah Medoh was the easiest to use, but Vah Naboris was the most fun. After that comes Vah Ruta, which seemed always on the verge of dying, and then Vah Rudania. I just didn’t have as much fun with those two.
As far as I can tell, there aren’t any Points of No Return as far as the overworld quests go. While this does offer a gameplay and story segregation break (e.g. you can still face the Yiga as enemies even after they join you), at the same time I like it because you have to complete all the quests to get 100% completion, and it’d be rather awful if quests were deleted / cut off after a certain story point without warning.
Similarly, you can replay even main story quests at any time, which is useful for gathering materials you might need for other quests (or gathering apples which you need for healing and which, for some reason—I’ll save this for a later section).
The Neutrals:
Terrako. I just . . . okay. On the one hand, I hate Terrako because it is the catalyst for all the bullshit that happens in the plot, and the fact that Terrako was actually the most important one all along is annoying af. (Who will be key in defeating Calamity Ganon: The Hero & Princess of prophecy, or one eggy boi? The answer may surprise you!) But on the other hand, Terrako actually has a personality and is kind of cute as hell, and it was really sad when he succumbed to the brainwashing and you had to murder him. The memories Zelda has of King Rhoam taking Terrako away when she was a child as she sobbed and screamed for him to stop were also painful. So it’s like, I would like Terrako if, say, he’d been introduced in Breath of the Wild 2 as a tiny Guardian that Zelda built after the events of Breath of the Wild as like, a little companion / pet of sorts. In theory I like him as Zelda and Link’s child. On the other, I hate its role in this game, so I have really complicated feelings on Terrako over all. (I also apparently can’t decide which pronouns to use, but somehow I get the feeling that Terrako doesn’t even know what pronouns are and thus probably wouldn’t care.)
While the missions themselves were usually fun, the gameplay really isn’t friendly to anyone with any sort of carpal tunnel or anything similar. That is to say, a little bit of button mashing like this game’s gameplay requires made my thumb and wrist ache something awful. As a result, while I did have fun playing, I also experienced pain playing, and so I can’t really decide if this is good or bad, especially since there at least was some strategy involved depending on who you chose to play as (yet I feel it was less finessed than in Breath of the Wild, but since it’s a Warriors game that’s not too surprising to me).
The missions were fun, but they followed a similar format to the first Hyrule Warriors where you were going to be doing the same tasks over and over and over in different missions (e.g. capture the outposts, etc). The one plus is that I feel there was a bit more variety here in that there were escort missions and the like too, but again, that wasn’t too much and so it could get a little tiring after a bit.
It was nice being able to see a lot of characters from Breath of the Wild that I loved again, but honestly? I feel like it was mostly a wasted opportunity because none of them (at least no one in the main group) received any more development or fleshing out that we didn’t already see in Breath of the Wild. In fact, arguably they were flattened. Revali was an arrogant, argumentative jerk from start to finish, with none of the respect he had for Zelda or any softer sides showing through. We saw that Mipha had a crush on Link and that she was protective over Sidon, but we already saw that in the original game + Champion’s Ballad. We saw that Urbosa was caring, but again, we’d already seen that . . . and so on. This was an opportunity to delve into each of them deeper, but the game just rehashed what we already knew of them from the previous game rather than going into it in any more depth. Arguably the only ones we got to see more sides of were, of all characters, Kohga and Rhoam, and even that wasn’t much. So while it was nice to see these characters again and spend more time with them, I also feel that there was a major wasted opportunity in terms of writing and characterization, particularly since we never saw any major bonding moments with them unlike what we saw in the Champion’s Ballad on photo day.
I LOVED Purah, but I was insanely disappointed that she wasn’t a playable character. At first I thought it might be because they didn’t want to give us two Sheikah, but they were fine giving us two Rito, two Zora, etc, so I don’t see why Purah couldn’t have been playable. Yeah, she’s a scientist, but she’s also a freaking ninja. You can’t tell me she wouldn’t be able to defend herself. So while I’m happy that she had such a big role in the plot (bigger than Robbie, arguably), it disappoints me that we weren’t able to play as her.
Astor is a fascinating character, and I feel it’s at least heavily implied that he was the oracle who foretold Calamity Ganon’s return in the actual timeline. But that’s not specified and we really don’t learn anything about him other than Ganon apparently chose Astor himself, and wanted to use him as his right-hand, so that was a bit of a letdown all things considered. If he was the prophet, why didn’t Rhoam say anything? And how could Calamity Ganon choose Astor from the Dark World, or wherever he was sealed this time? Before playing my original thought was that Astor was basically like Agahnim — that is, a manifestation of Ganon that he uses to act while he’s still sealed in the Dark World, rather than an actual person who exists. But that doesn’t seem to have been the case, so . . . who knows.
Some of the maps could be really frustrating, in that the path to take either wasn’t clear enough or there were gates closed with no clear clues on how to open them, blocking off an outpost you needed to get it. My method of getting around this was usually to tell one of the A.I. characters to go there and then follow them (or switch to another character and tell the character I had been playing with to go there and trust the A.I. to accomplish it, etc) but it was still pretty annoying. That said, at least there were ways around it, and the maps themselves tended to be pretty big and well detailed, so I don’t hate the map design too terribly.
Did Sooga die? I honestly could not tell. On the one hand, it sure seemed like he died considering he was never again shown in a cutscene after Astor betrayed the Yiga Clan. On the other, I seem to vaguely remember seeing him on the battlefield sometimes and I find it very strange that Kohga wouldn’t mention wanting to avenge Sooga in particular if he was dead. But I honestly couldn’t figure out whether Sooga was dead or alive, so this goes in the neutral category for now because I don’t know whether to be mad about it or not.
The Cons:
NINTENDO. FUCKING. LIED. ABOUT WHAT. THIS GAME. WAS SUPPOSED. TO BE. Yes, that needed to be bolded, and yes, it needed to be in all caps. Nintendo advertised Age of Calamity as a canon prequel to Breath of the Wild. They did it over, and over, and over again. And do you know what? They lied! Because Age of Calamity is not, and could never be, a canon prequel to Breath of the Wild. It can’t be, because it’s an Everybody Lives AU that negates Breath of the Wild in its entirety. And as someone who downloaded the demo thinking that this was going to be a canon prequel—as someone who tried to hold out hope for that even with the warning signs in the demo—that made me really angry, upset, and concerned about the canon sequel. Because you see, Breath of the Wild merged the original three timelines so that we wouldn’t have to deal with split timeline nonsense anymore. But now Nintendo, for some incomprehensible reason given that Aonuma himself was allegedly the one who didn’t want to have to deal with split timelines anymore, went ahead and created a new one. And my concern is whether any of the bullshit that happened in Age of Calamity will affect Breath of the Wild 2 or not. Realistically it shouldn’t, given that Age of Calamity can’t lead into Breath of the Wild at all. But with the Neo Champions having gone to Age of Calamity to help them, I have concerns. Major concerns. If Age of Calamity affects Breath of the Wild 2 in any way, I’m going to be livid. And before I continue, let me just take a moment to say this: It’s not that I wanted to see the Champions be murdered, per se. I love all four of the Champions and I think that their deaths were absolutely tragic. But at the same time, that was kind of the entire point, or at least part of it. The fall of Hyrule and the death of the Champions were traumatic scars on the land. Countless people died that day, on top of the Champions being murdered in their Divine Beasts. Link himself technically died, or at least very nearly did. Entire villages were wiped out. You can still see those ruins on the landscape, untouched, crawling with monsters. But despite that, over the past 100 years, Hyrule has rebuilt. People are still alive, and are still thriving in different villages across the landscape. Many have not forgotten the past, especially those who had sent Champions to defend Hyrule 100 years ago. But they’ve still continued living, and in that, have refused to let Calamity Ganon defeat them. Moreover, the battle from 100 years ago is not finished yet. Zelda has trapped Ganon in the castle with her and waits for Link to come help her finish things, which they do. The Champions died, but Hyrule did not lose. Hyrule put the battle on pause until they could win, which they did. Breath of the Wild, through having a massive tragedy take place in its backstory, gives us a tale about how victory can be grasped from the ashes, about how you can be broken, but not beaten, and how you can still push yourself up and win no matter how long it takes. That is a beautiful, a powerful story, and taking the Everybody Lives route completely demolishes that.  So suffice it to say, I thought the story presented in Age of Calamity was complete garbage.
But honestly, it isn’t just the story completely demolishing and trashing all over the themes of Breath of the Wild that makes it bad, but it’s also what was done with the characters. There were so many pointless retcons of established story and character elements that were thrown completely out the window that a.) destroyed character relationships and b.) flattened characters and took away what made them well-written in the first place. As just a few examples: — It is established in Creating a Champion (the Breath of the Wild compendium) that Link pulled the Master Sword from its pedestal when he was around 11 or 12 years old, and thus was known to be the Hero from that point forward. Note that he had already been in the knights at this point; we know from Mipha’s diary in the original game that he visited Zora’s Domain as a small child and was already sparring with adult knights at that time (which seems crazy, but he is the Hero, so). Nevertheless, being the Hero made Link realize just how much was riding on him, and how everyone in the kingdom was now looking to him as the Hero who would save them, personally. This caused Link to completely shut down his emotions out of anxiety of letting the people down or disappointing them in any way. He also stopped talking for the most part, again afraid that he would say the wrong thing and disappoint everyone. But in Age of Calamity, this is thrown out the window. From a gameplay perspective I get that perhaps they didn’t want you to have the Master Sword at the start, but since you can keep strengthening the Master Sword anyway there’s no reason why they couldn’t have just started it off as a kind of weak weapon that you power up over time. More importantly though is that Link has the same exact personality that he had in the memories in Breath of the Wild, even though he is not the Hero at the start of the game. I mean, he is, but no one knows that yet, and as such he has no reason to be stoic and silent, because his reason for being that way in Breath of the Wild’s backstory is completely gone. We could have gotten to see a goofier, more personable Link (even if they still wanted to keep him mostly silent), but instead we got a stoic, silent Link for literally no reason. It makes absolutely no sense.  — As an added contradiction to the above, Mipha tells Link in Age of Calamity that he “hasn’t changed a bit” when they meet again in Zora’s Domain. This is in direct contrast to her diary, wherein she notes that the wild boy she met when they were both children has changed completely when they meet again as teenagers into someone stolid, though she’s not aware of the reason why. So once again, they doubled down on removing backstory that made Link into a more complex, well-written character. — To that end, Link and Zelda’s relationship is also rewritten entirely (and by rewritten, I mean “had all complexity stripped from it and with it any meaningful development). Since Link is appointed Zelda’s personal knight because he fights well instead of because he’s the Hero, Zelda has absolutely no reason to resent him being appointed her knight here like she did in the original history. You see, in the original history, Zelda resented Link for seemingly stepping into his destiny with zero effort given, and also thought (because of her own insecurities and the rumors that Rhoam told her to her face were being circulated about her being “heir to a throne of nothing”) that he looked down on her for not being able to awaken her powers and step into hers. For this reason, she spent most of her time either avoiding him or yelling at him, though she notes in her diary that she feels bad for doing so because she knows that it’s not fair of her to treat him badly when he’s technically just trying to do his job. It’s not until he saves her from Yiga assassins that she starts to do a hard reassessment of her treatment of him, and starts to try to get to know him better . . . which results in her getting him to open up to her, and her being able to open up to him in turn, and both of them becoming each other’s confidant. This in turn makes it understandable when it’s Link’s near death which finally allows Zelda to come into her powers; on top of having lost everyone and seemingly everything else, Zelda saw the one person she could be vulnerable in front of about to die protecting her. Link was so important to her by that point, regardless of whether you see her feelings for him as romantic or not, because he supported her emotionally on top of being there for her in physical defense. That is why her powers awakened when they did, why he was the final trigger. But in Age of Calamity, none of that happens. Zelda doesn’t resent Link because he’s not the Hero at the time he’s appointed her personal knight. Even when he gets the Master Sword later, Zelda is just sad about it rather than holding any sort of resentment or anger toward him. We never see them bond or become close; unlike in Breath of the Wild, where we have memories of Zelda trying to feed him a frog, opening a conversation about fate and destiny and whether one could make a choice in opposition to those things, or scolding him while patching up his wounds, all we get here are repeated scenes of Link defending Zelda from attacks. That’s it. We never see her have any sort of actual conversation with him, we never see them bond or have any non-battle related moments together. We certainly never get an indication that Link opens up to her either, which means that each time he protects her here it’s less “I’m protecting the one person who I’ve been able to open up to about who I really am” and more “it’s all about my paycheck.” Link and Zelda’s relationship, whether you saw it as romantic or not, was the core relationship in Breath of the Wild. And yet, in an alleged prequel (that wasn’t really a prequel after all!), it’s pretty much nonexistent.  — Moreover, Zelda’s character gets flattened, too. Here’s the thing about Zelda in Breath of the Wild: She’s written like a real person. She has many good qualities (selfless, devoted, intelligent), but also many flaws (stubborn, short-tempered, quick to judgement). The way Zelda decided she knew all she needed to know about Link right away and reacted accordingly (and by “reacted accordingly” I mean “treated him badly”) was a result of her flaws. But Zelda realizing that what she was doing was wrong and endeavoring to make things right was a direct result of her good qualities. Breath of the Wild’s Zelda is not a perfect person, not because she has a difficult time unlocking her powers (pretty much anyone would in her position, she was dealt the shittiest hand in the world), but because she’s a realistic person who has flaws and makes mistakes and is just doing her best in a world that is determined to knock her down at any opportunity. As a result, we see a lot of emotional range from Zelda throughout the memories in Breath of the Wild. We see her curious and inquisitive, we see her frustrated, we see her sad, anxious, angry, playful, determined, loving, impatient, brave. She’s a compelling character because she is a character, rather than the Deus Ex Machina perfect princess who exists only to either be rescued or be a holy figure who seals away the evil at the end. (Which I mean, she does seal away the evil at the end, but that’s far and away not the only thing she does.)  But in Age of Calamity we see . . . basically none of that. There are very brief moments where Zelda is curious about technology, or where she daintily laughs at something Terrako does. She does get determination and her anxieties wiped away after she awakens her power near the end. But for 90% of the game all we see from her is her being anxious or sad about her power. We don’t see her get irrationally resentful of or angry toward Link. We don’t see her getting impatient, making hasty judgments about people or animals (remember, she also judged her horse as unworthy of the royal bridle before Link helped her learn how to bond with her horse properly), or doing mischievous things like trying to make her personal knight eat a frog for Science. I’m going to be perfectly honest with you: While I deeply felt for Zelda in the flashbacks of Breath of the Wild, I got tired of her constant “:( I’m useless :(” angst in Age of Calamity. It got old pretty quickly. And most of all, I was so disappointed to see that the character I loved was now just here to be a woobie, rescued by Link half a dozen times and sad for most of the story. Breath of the Wild’s Zelda is my favorite Zelda, and she was done such an injustice in this game. It was immensely disappointing.  — Link and Zelda were not the only issues here, though. The way the Yiga Clan also needs to be talked about, and in order to discuss them, I have to first remind everyone of their history. So. 10,000 years ago. Civilization was thriving thanks to Sheikah scientists and innovators, who created things such as the Sheikah Slate, the Guardians, and the Divine Beasts. It was this technology that allowed Hyrule to triumph over Calamity Ganon the first time he came around to play (or at least that time that he came around to play), and they won pretty handily at that. However, the Hyrulean King at the time quickly grew suspicious and fearful of the Sheikah. Although the Sheikah had faithfully served the Hyrulean Royal Family for milennia due to their goddess-given oaths, the King of Hyrule felt that the Sheikah not only could, but would use their technology to rebel against Hyrule and dismantle the Royal Family. As a result, he: - Exiled the Sheikah from Central Hyrule, as well as any villages or towns where Hylians lived. - Criminalized Sheikah technology, which included imprisoning (or even executing) any Sheikah known to be conducting scientific research, as well as destroying Sheikah technology (or burying what could not be destroyed, such as the Divine Beasts and Guardians).  - Essentially legalized Sheikah oppression. The people of Hyrule backed the king in his decree, for the most part, buying into the bigotry and prejudice that spurred it on. The Sheikah had everything taken from them and destroyed: their homes, their research, their artifacts, everything. And while some Sheikah remained loyal to the oaths they swore to the goddesses and decided to keep peacefully in a newly formed, yet secret out of fear of retaliation, village (Kakariko), another group of Sheikah were rightfully fucking pissed at being oppressed and subjugated for no good reason, especially right after they helped save the world. Their opinion on the matter was “fuck that guy, AND his entire family.” These Sheikah became known as the Yiga Clan. Now, why they felt it was a good idea to side with Calamity Ganon is not entirely clear, given that destroying the world would also mean destroying them. But I think that on top of being furious with the Royal Family for this betrayal, they were also furious with the goddesses, because not a single goddess stepped in to defend them when they were being betrayed and oppressed. The Sheikah had kept loyal to their oaths for millennia, and yet this was how they were repaid. If you think about it like that, then the Yiga siding with the one who would destroy everything and everyone the goddesses had ever created makes a twisted kind of sense, even though it assures their own destruction right along with it. And now that we’ve refreshed that backstory . . . let us visit what happens with the Yiga in Age of Calamity. So. First, we see that Astor is the one who has convinced Kohga to go along with reviving Calamity Ganon, even though that doesn’t really make sense since serving Calamity Ganon has kind of been the Yiga’s thing from the get-go, and that they didn’t hate Zelda and Link because Astor told them to, but rather because Zelda was a member of the Royal Family (a.k.a. the people the Yiga have held a grudge against for 10,000 years), and Link is the knight defending her / the Hero. Next, we see that they’re completely aimless without instructions from Astor, which again, doesn’t really make sense considering their goals have always been pretty clear and they’ve been a tightly-run organization from the beginning no matter how bumbling Kohga is. Finally, Age of Calamity has them join the Royal Family and heroes despite this being the antithesis of what they’ve been devoted to for, again, 10,000 years.  And here’s the problem with that: In Age of Calamity, Kohga’s alleged reasoning for wanting to join with Zelda (and bowing to her, what the fuck) is because Astor used Yiga Clan foot soldiers (and I think Sooga? It was unclear) to fuel Evil Terrako to resurrect Calamity Ganon. Kohga felt betrayed by this and thus decided to take Astor down. Given that the Yiga Clan have been established to hold grudges over betrayal for millennia, Kohga turning on Astor makes sense. However, it was also already established that the Yiga wanted to revive Calamity Ganon to destroy the entire damn world even though it would mean their deaths as well, because they hated the Royal Family and goddesses just that much. So Kohga deciding to join the Royal Family, and actually bowing to Zelda, makes absolutely zero sense and cannot be excused just because they gave him a line about gagging at the fact that he joined up with Zelda. It’s a complete dismissal of and slap in the face to the legitimate reasons that the Yiga Clan had for defecting from the Sheikah, and does absolutely nothing to address the oppression the Sheikah people suffered as a direct result of the Hyrulean Royal Family’s laws. And yes, that was 10,000 years ago and Zelda herself had nothing to do with it, but we also have little evidence that the current Royal Family has done anything to change it, at least for reasons other than their own benefit. It’s stated in Creating a Champion that King Rhoam was the first king since then to reach out to the Sheikah to try to repair that relationship, and that he only did so when the prophecy about Calamity Ganon rising again was made. Moreover, he made sure to keep a very tight watch on the Sheikah scientists, indicating that he still may not trust them. So whiel the actual betrayal was 10,000 years ago, it’s clear that the Royal Family has not once in 10,000 years attempted to genuinely make up for the oppression that was forced upon the Sheikah, and so the Yiga Clan have every right to still be absolutely fucking furious about it. I can’t blame them for that at all, and I hated seeing Kohga bow to Zelda like that for that reason. (All of this said, no, it doesn’t excuse their other bastardry, such as stealing the Thunder Helm, or murdering the wife of someone who tried to peacefully defect and then threatening to also murder his young children if he didn’t continue to do Yiga missions. The Yiga do some truly fucked up things and that bastardry is not excused by their sad history. However, when it comes to the Royal Family their resentment and fury makes sense, and I hate that this wasn’t addressed in a game that wanted you to team up with the Yiga. They’re not the haha funny bad guys, they’re people who had a legitimate reason to be furious, and the Sheikah as a whole were never given anything remotely close to reparations by the Hyrulean Royal Family. This is something I hope is addressed in Breath of the Wild 2, although my expectations for that are pretty low.) — Finally, while a much lesser note than all of the above, I also found Riju’s characterization to be questionable. I might be misremembering her small part in Breath of the Wild, but while we learn from her diary that she does have some doubts about her ability to lead the Gerudo at her age (particularly given that the Thunder Helm was stolen from her), I don’t remember her having such low confidence, or being so meek so that she would constantly need Urbosa supporting her. I feel like they may have characterized her that way because she’s a child, which I mean, I guess I understand, but it just felt like an alteration of her character to me. I could be wrong since it’s been a while since I played through that part of Breath of the Wild, but that aspect of her character just felt off to me.
Moving on from the story and the characters, I also have to say that the amount of graphical inconsistencies in this game were really just . . . impressive in number. I’m talking specifically about Link’s different outfits, and whether he would actually be wearing them in cutscenes or not, because honestly? You could never know if he was going to be in the outfit you put him in, or if he was going to be in the Default Outfit for any given cutscene. I get the feeling that the difference lies somewhere in-between whether something was a pre-rendered cutscene or like, a quick time event one, but nonetheless it just felt incredibly sloppy and kind of defeated the purpose, at times, of being able to dress Link how you wanted him.
I had issues with the gameplay at times as well, apart from what I already mentioned before. Namely, I found it incredibly frustrating how sometimes, despite being locked on to an enemy, the Sheikah Slate apps wouldn’t actually target that enemy (e.g. Stasis activating on a bokoblin instead of the targeted attacking Lynel). Similarly, I wasn’t a fan of how A.I. characters couldn’t be easily pointed around the map at times, refusing to go to certain locations until you swtiched to them and forced them to go there (e.g. when you had to manually make them jump down to the field during the Akkala Citadel battle).
Why in the actual hell can you not a.) eat ingredients other than apples during battle to heal, and b.) BUY APPLES LIKE ANY OTHER INGREDIENT? Holy fuck it was so goddamn annoying having to go into random battles to try and scrounge up apples from crates and boxes, and only really being able to do it from lower level battles because higher level battles wouldn’t give them as readily to "increase difficulty” (more like to increase frustration). I see no reason why you couldn’t purchase apples from shops, or eat other food items like berries or fish like you could in Breath of the Wild. Apples didn’t even heal that much health, so you had to mash several of them at once late game, and you could only hold a small number and couldn’t buy more . . . frustrating. Just absolutely frustrating for no good reason. (Like if it was a harder difficulty restriction I’d understand, but for normal difficulty? Jeez.)
All in all, if Nintendo had just been upfront and honest about this being an alternate universe game from the very start, I probably wouldn’t have been as furious as the story as I was. I would have still been disappointed, but the anger wouldn’t have been there at the very least. But the weren’t honest—they lied in order to get people to buy the game, and so that dragged the score down along with everything else. While I did like some aspects of this game, overall I feel that it could have been so much better, and all I can hope is that none of it affects Breath of the Wild 2 in any way, shape, or form.

Age of Calamity character ages (theory)
Alright I wanna start with the characters who we know the ages for sure of. The rest are going to be a range of like a basic idea like “young adult” or “toddler” if I really don’t know how to gauge the age (*cough cough* Sidon *cough cough*).
Zelda is for sure 17. And Riju is canonically 12.
Link, I think, is probably around Zelda’s age if not a bit older. If a bit older I like to think a year or two (I’m a Zelink shipper I’m sorry) but definitely old enough to be Zelda’s knight. So around 17-19.
Impa, Purah, and Robbie: I know that Purah is a little older than Impa, and I’m pretty sure Robbie is close to Purah’s age. And I think with the fact that Zelda and Impa are friends, they’d have a similar age. And plus when we see Impa in BoTW, she’s still alive, suggesting that she probably wasn’t super old when the Calamity first appeared. So Impa’s 17 or 18 as well during Calamity time. Purah really doesn’t feel much older then Impa, so 19-21 feel like a good age range for her. Robbie feels a little older so 20-24, because he’s still alive during BoTW time too.
Urbosa: I just get 30s vibes from her. She feels like she knows how to take care of children and has already led a pretty amazing life, being friends with Zelda’s mother and kind of adopting Zelda herself.
Daruk: one of the elders of the Gorons, but I really don’t know Goron ages work similarly to how I don’t know how Zora age (I do have a theory on Zora but that’s something entirely different) so maybe 50s(?) 60s(?). Just older for sure.
Yunobo: older teen. Doesn’t give me quite the same feel as Sidon. The awkwardness definitely feels teen-like, but he doesn’t give me the feeling of a 13 year old, but a guy that’s trying his best but still has no idea what he’s doing. So about 15-16.
Teba: oh definitely late 20s. He has a kid canonically. He has a really fricken deep voice too. He doesn’t give me the vibe of a middle aged adult, just a guy.
Revali: don’t know don’t care. Jk, I feel like he’s younger, since he doesn’t have any descendants and is super freaking arrogant, which gives me the feeling of a kid. Of course I’m not saying he’s a kid because he’s definitely an adult. Early 20s.
Mipha: she was young when she was told to pilot the divine beast, and they had to ask her father if she could, while the rest could do it themselves. She grew up with Link, and has a huge crush on him. She has to be pretty young, and I like to think of her as like a 14 year old. Still very sweet, naive, and willing to help anyone that asks. And she’s small too, compared to older Sidon. If she had the chance to grow up more, I believe that she would probably be around his same height. She’s about as big as Riju, so she has to be 12-14.
Sidon: baby version? I just have to put him in the “toddler” range because Zora ages are weird. Older Sidon? Young adult. And definitely gay or bi. Anyways. I have to say he looks like he would be about 20 or so, like college-aged. And his optimism is just so bright it makes me feel like he’s a lot younger then he probably is.
And Zora ages are interesting, because it’s 100 years of difference between toddler Sidon and YA Sidon. So about 21 Hylian years is a Zora year?? Maybe?? Idk, that’s just my theory.

Hey lo! ! Just something I'm really curious about!! Who is your favorite champion (besides link) and hero? Also who do you main in aoc? 🥺👉👈 Anyways have a nice night or morning, whenever this reaches you ☺️🖤
Oh!!! Hi Lav!! Uhhhhh ha besides Link...uh out of the 4? Probably Mipha? Though Urbosa is a very close second. If you mean hero as in like,,,Sidon, Teba, Yunobo, and Riju, my favorite hands down is Sidon.  I main Link and Mipha in AoC! I just like one-handed weapons the most, and Link of course is the best champion for that, but next would be spears and that would be again, Mipha. They’re my two highest level and have been severely over-leveled for every fight I did. If I need to use other characters but those, my go-tos are actually Impa or King Rhoam.

Finished Hyrule warrior age of calamity...
And i loved it so much, but if my heart (read : biggest crush on zelda) is satisfied, my brain can’t help but think of a way to improve it (as always) so here are my thought under spoilers x) Feel free to ignore me, it is purely to play with scenario in my head !
First thing first : the base story ; while i do love the idea of time travel (it would be hypocrite of me to say otherwise as 80% of my fics plays with it) I do think it could be played on better in this story. For me the biggest flaw is that they don’t play on the “will they, won’t they?” that comes with time travel fix it, by stating immediately that Terrako (tiny eggrobot) comes from the future and is changing the future by its mere presence.
How to fix that -> This is probably the change that would take most of the work. First thing first, i would make the jump back in time further in the past ; enough for terrako to be seen as the “seer” that predicted the Calamity ganon’s return. Which happens i think (if i recall the lore right, when Zelda is around 7 years old, right after her mother’s passing). I think it would be interesting for 1 small prologue chapter to be about this. It will change the “twist” in the story endgame but the twist is, in my opinion, less important than the tension we couldget from the “will they/ won’t they” throughout the whole game.
In my mind it would go like this : we play King of Hyrule + Urbosa, background character Zelda’s mother and Hyrule’s chancelor (Astor but not you know, nt corrupted yet) as background characters not-playable (or maybe Zelda’s mother to show what it looks like to fight with the power?)/ probably having to protect them is the mission + maybe Link’s parents as PNJ solider battling alongside the characters and Cass’s master the Sheikah that sings balad in the Hyrule castle.
1rst battle (somewhere in hyrule) : The chapter starts with the reports of monsters becoming more and more frequent, and so the royal family investigates it. As it could be a sign of the calamity ganon returning (says the queen) the chancellor is doubtful : how many monsters is a sign? Do they have records about it? How can they know? Won’t they just put themselves in danger for nothing? Of course his prediction rings true and the monsters surround the place. They have to evacuate the town and organize strongholds around the town to protect it. (Introduction to Link's parents as hylian captains in charge) + King asking the Sheikah to go ask for reinforcement Zelda’s mother saying Urbosa is close. Then once the stronghold are in place, the purpose is to hold it until the time limit ends, when Urbosa arrives with her troops as reinforcement and they eliminate the monsters completely. Demo at the end of the battle shows the queen is looking around the place and finds terrako lying on the ground / in the ruins + the sheikah plate. The king and her decide to bring it to inspect it / offer it to her daughter as toys (to make the King of Hyrule a little bit more likeable through his relationship with his wife and daughter first in between battle), against the chancellor’s wishes.
2nd Battle (in the hyrule castle + castle town) : The Queen is teaching Zelda how to repair terrako with the help of the Sheikah chief (and maybe Purrah as kid and Impa?). Like in the story, Zelda repairs terrako and shows it to her mother, which says she is very proud of her. Terrako however runs away as soon as it can, and the battle is to catch it as it runs around the castle and causes havoc. Urbosa (who is here for a visit) has to catch it before the King of Hyrule notices it. Once the battle is over, the Sheikah can finally analyze the data within terrako. It brings the information that the calamity is indeed coming back.
3rd battle : The chancellor advises the king and queen to be careful, as sheikah technology had been buried deep for a reason (maybe bring up the lore of the Hyrule family betraying the sheikah and so the birth fo the Yiga clan). He says he believes in the common way to predict the future and asks to use a ritual to confirm the queen + terrak + sheikah’s prediction. He says it could be a trap from the Yiga clan. To prove him wrong, Urbosa goes spying the Yiga clan. (Idk what it could be, a mix of infiltration, kind of mission and battles? To capture a Yiga?) Anyways it’s Urbosa again with one Hyrule captain as a guest. In the meantime we are on another battlefield, where the king assists the chancellor in his ritual in the time temple on the great plateau. He has to protect him until the end of the ritual? (With the other hylian captain) At the end of the battle, baby!Zelda is lead to the battlefield because of terrako, when he reaches the temple of time some corruption seeks in during the ritual, while the chancellor gives of the prophecy that beasts are buried beneath the ground and that could help fight the calamity. It is unclear what caused an explosion : terrako’s presence or the corruption, or the ritual, or maybe even a yiga? Anyways something happens the queen protects Zelda and the king with her power. We skip places : Urbosa gets the news that the Queen and the chancellor has been killed.
End of the prologue chapter with a funeral demo. Adding Zelda acting dignified through the funeral. Someone in the crowd says it is sad, as the princess is young, and will probably not remember her mother at all. (To justify Zelda forgetting Terrako) Maybe a scene with young Link (with baby mipha here near to show they’re friend, among the zora delegation) being told by his remaining parents that he has to protect the hyrule family like the parents that were as a temple (and implied that died too) did.
Another addition i would put in the game is the possibility to go on inside the map without enemies in between battles (to look for korogu but not chest) ; and be able to purchase things here once the markets are opened/unlocked. It would allow people like me who like to see the landscape / comparison between breath of the wild and age of calamity to be satisfied. Of course it is optional you can go inside the map or purchase directly on the menu like you do today.
Let’s go back to the game.
So now after we go through the first chapter that is not changed one bit, Terrako appears like usual. The only difference is that during the first half of the battle, there’s a discussion between the King and an unknown soldier who says an old storage of the queen’s has been touched by the canon’s fire by accident (or maybe make a monster reaches the canon and adds a art where Link has to defend the canon from a monster waves). The soldier also says the magistrate impa went to check on the damage done and retrieve what can be salvaged (which explains Impa’s presence and her holding the sheikah plate) Which explains why terrako is lying on the ground later. You have access to missions in the hyrule castle.
Another change i would do for missions : some of them lead to small demos as a reward that deepens the information you get on the characters. Each character has at least ONE serie of missions that leads to demos. Also, there’s two series of missions that leads to the retelling of breath of the wild + ballad of the champion dlc demos. I mean it it’s very important. Once you complete these missions you get to see again the memories you had in those two games, with almost no difference (except some alteration you can notice oly when your rewatch it, like not wearing the champion tunic yet / not carrying the master sword yet, or terrako being behind from afar, providing the outside pov we had in there (like seeing Link and Zelda’s backs). Also some mission are accessible within a certain time range. (and it’s showed on the map, terrako icon is up and saying until which chapter you have to complete).
Anyways the first missions you get are :
(Epona serie) The king of Hyrule requesting says Zelda’s new horse is ready and to retrieve it to Malon’s ranch. >Later> Leads to Zelda having trouble with her horse and Link giving her advices (maybe leads to special mission where you are on horses’ backs, only being able to use Link and Zelda on horse’s back and later Revali, flying, and Riju with mme Patricia) >later> Leads to the demo of BOTW where zelda explains she will go pray to the wisdom source.
Other missions you could get :
(Link’s past serie) Adding a new quest for Link and his remaining parents to show the pressure he is under too.
(Zelda’s training) Adding new quest showing Zelda praying/meditating to show she tries. It makes Zelda prays in the temple of time, or other divine places (like the one in BOTW where there’s a giant goddess statue, or to ancient gods like Naryu..ect...), it ends at localizing the spring of strength.
(Romance serie optional) Adding a serie where the player can choose who Links ends up with. (Link has choices between Zelda, Mipha, Sidon) ; (Zelda can end up with Link or Impa -yes i’m sorry not urbosa, since urbosa knew her mom i think it’s for the best ><).
I have no idea for the champions, but you’re welcome to add/imagine one serie for them. Here are some other missions that could be added :
(Astor) -> This serie of missions is used to learn that astor = chancellor that has disappeared in the ritual on the great plateau. He was saved by the calamity ganon’s corruption.
(Sheikah’s ballad) -> This serie of missions is about Kass’s master and his unrequired crush on Zelda / hatred toward Link. You would have missions like  helping him find inspiration for his songs, or protecting him while he travels with you.
Other details/alteration :
-OUTFITS are easier to get throughout the story and every character gets one. You cannot play the character in the zone until you get the right outfit for them and wear it (winter clothes for Zelda/Link/Impa in the Rito for example). That way people can customize their characters earlier. (For example Revali and Mipha need a special outfit in the field with lightning?)
-Also in the gerudo town map, only female characters can enters the town, you’re automatically switched off the male characters if you do venture in.
SO THIS CHANGE : the first half of the game is longer and makes sure the player wonders if the future of breath of the wild is going to happen still like it did.
For that here is the order of the previous games memories put in order (and modification added) :
1)Memory of Zelda snapping at Link for following her by king’s order. (Change is Link does not carry the master sword and is in his knight’s outfit).
2) Memory of Urbosa being requested to help through by Zelda/ King of Hyrule at the end of her recruitement chapter + scene at the end of it.
3) Memory of Darruk talking to Link at the end of his recruitment chapter (changes are Link does not carry the master sword and is in his knight’s outfit)
→ After Darruk’s recruitment there’s a quest that leads to Zelda’s discussion with Darruk featuring in the champion’s ballad.
4) Memory of Zelda’s meeting with Revali at the end of the chapter of his recruitment (needs ; everyone’s snow outfit, zelda’s horse quest completed - no change)
5) MIpha’s memory with Link happens after her recruitement.
6) Mipha’s conversation with Zelda in the champion ballad is held after her recruitement battle and Link’s awakening of the master sword. (no change) after a mission.
7) After Link gets the master sword, there’s a serie missions where zelda needs the ingredients to make the champion’s outfit. (You need to unlock the ability to dye armors too, and the blue color). it leads to two memories : the informal ceremony requested by darruk in BOTW, and the Ballad of champion demo where you are intronized by the king and later have a picture taken of the group. (Only alteration is that line where they say they have yet to unlock the other abilities of the sheikah plate, and you can see terrako looking at Impa taking the picture).
8) Revali’s memory with Link (botw) happens once Link has the master sword too.
9) The memory where Zelda asks if links hears the master’s sword voice happens in a serie where you improved the divine beasts + after a first mission with darruk driving his divine beast.
10) I suppose the memory with Yiga pursuing Zelda can happens during the chapter we fight Yiga / infiltrates them.
11) Same with Zelda’s sleeping next to urbosa. It happens once you’ve improved the divine beast + did the first operation with Urbosa using her divine beast.
12) The silent princess memory is here with a serie of mission dedicated to save it, like there is in the game already and the frog mission. You also have to complete all the previous memories stated before this one.
13) The Zelda’s training mission serie leads to localize the strength source and ends up with the memory where Zelda prays there.
14) The memory of Link and Zelda having a heart to heart under the rain happens during Link’s personal serie of mission.
15) The memory of Zelda helping Link after a hard battle on death mountains happens once you completed the serie of extreme fire missions that is already in the game.
16) The memory of Zelda having a fight with her father happens after the spring of courage disastrous mission and a series of missions that started after the 2nd battle of chapter 1 (where you fist fight a guardian) that had the goal to be able to use guardians. Once you have this memory you cannot do the mission about sheikah technology for a while.
Finally the last memory you have in this first half of the game is the one with the horse riding, right before the chapter where calamity ganon awakes. Where Zelda says she will go to the spring of wisdom tomorrow for her birthday. It is the end of the serie mission about epona and her white horse. (no alteration except terrako being seen at the end and maybe a skip to evil!terrako so we know why Calamity ganon is awakened sooner, because Astor saw this through him and so acted upon it)
Now that the first half is done, the game can continue like it had, with going full canon!divergence and the game is almost the same as it. The only changes i would do are :
-Adding a serie of missions WAY BEFORE (like in the first half of the story) where they find the shrine of resurrection, maybe even a battle mission on it before where someone is injured and you have to carry them there to test it.
-Altering Zelda and the King’s reconciliation :
1)When the castle is attacked, and the King is left behind : adds Link’s remaining parent by the king’s side and telling him to protect the princess at all cost to add a bit of emotion to Link too.
2)Then making the runs outside the castle another battle mission leading to the memory where Zelda breaks down in Link’s arm like in BOTW but ends up with Impa and terrako finding them, out of the forest and the scene we had where terrako sing the song to Zelda (+ seeing Revali’s divine beast in the sky) at the end.
3) Akkala’s fortress retaking takes place in the same way as before, once you rescued all the champions. But the reunion with the king happens right before the Hateno fort battle. He has been brought wounded there and you meet him mid battle while protecting the place. So the scene where the kind is already proud of his daughter BEFORE she gets her sealing power. The flash back scene happens here explaining he got saved by the metal part + adds a little bit of him saying he was afraid he would lose her to the sheikah technology the same way he lost her mother/ the chancellor...He is surprised by her leading the troop so well and retaking Akkala. Also it’s not sure he will survive yet it is said, and when she asks about Link’s parents he says they got separated and doesnt’ know if they made it. So the scene where Zelda panicks when Link is about to die and thinks of her father (and maybe adding Link’s parents) still happens. She unlocks her sealing power.
4) After the Hateno battle a little bit more is expanded by Yiga’s chief recruitment, and we can see the king is better but sees his daughter leading the battle proud. The great plateau battle happens, and instead of a reveal of the king being okay, he saves zelda from an attack at the end of the great plateau (and same scene, with him saying he is proud of her).
Here it is a satisfying reconciliation for me. The one we got suffers from the crappy redemptions arc tropes we always have “yeah now i’m okay since you got exactly where i wanted you to be and so i have little to change about my mindset” so nope. Nope. Big nope.
The rest i would change almost nothing, to the rest of the game. (Except maybe as i said missions quests where you learn more about Astor / About Kass’s old sheikah mentor who had a crush on Zelda / and a little bit about every character’s past, but that’s optional). The explanation for Zelda forgetting Terrako is the same as she doesn’t remember being called little bird or her mother’s face in te memories we have of her, as stated in the funeral scene.
And i’m done with “what i would improve in the age of calamity game” thanks for reading xD See you for the next game !

FE3H x LoZ
Hey, I saw that you enjoyed my Zelda AU so I decided to expand upon it! This includes eight students for each house, and even strengths based on the Three Houses weapon types. Also for convenience all of the students are Hylian/Gerudo/basically human.
To set the scene, the Gerudo Empire is in the desert to the west, the Kingdom of Hyrule is in the north and east, and the Ordon Alliance is in the forests to the south. The main religion is the Church of Hylia, and the Officer’s Academy is still in the center of the continent because the name sounds generic enough. The curse of Demise exists, but records of it have been lost to time and none of the students are aware of it (cue emotional revelations and plot twists).
CRIMSON BOARS
Since there are so few Gerudo characters of actual plot relevance, I decided to include Ganon’s other allies from across the series, plus a few wild cards.
Ganondorf - house leader. Heir to the Gerudo Empire. Strong and very physically capable, as well as a firm leader. Strengths: Lance, Brawl, Reason, Authority
Ghirahim - Ganondorf’s cunning retainer. Only really ever thinks about himself and his master. Strengths: Sword, Reason
Cia - used to be a warm, angelic girl when she was little, but has become the opposite since then. She idolizes Ganondorf, but also admires Link from afar. Strengths: Faith, Authority, Flying
Lorenz Zant - a foreign exchange student from Twili, a faraway archipelago. Only friends with the people in his class, and hates everyone else. Especially despises Midna. Strengths: Brawl, Reason, Flying
Urbosa - probably the nicest person in the class. Has a motherly attitude. Very strong and protective of her allies. Strengths: Sword, Bow
Astrid - a quiet girl who is almost always studying. Also has an obsession with fortune telling. Strengths: Faith, Reason
Onox - son of an imperial general. Large and built, and loves training. Always agrees with Ganondorf. Strengths: Axe, Brawl, Heavy Armor
Ruto - daughter of a wealthy noble from Hyrule who became close to the emperor, but she does not always approve of the Empire’s methods. Very flirty, and has many admirers. Strengths: Lance, Riding
AZURE OWLS
These characters are all either Sages, Champions, or Resistance members.
Zelda - house leader. Crown princess of the Kingdom of Hyrule. Extremely smart, and though usually kind, can be cold and relentless on the battlefield. Strengths: Bow, Reason, Riding, Authority
Impa - rescued by Zelda during the Tragedy of Sheikah and has become her faithful retainer since then. Often found accompanying Zelda or praying. Strengths: Sword, Lance, Faith
Revali - son of a renowned warrior in the Kingdom. Thinks very highly of himself and looks down on those who are physically weaker than him. Often trains to the point of intense fatigue. Strengths: Bow, Flying
Mipha - a shy, quiet girl who mostly keeps to her room. Dotes on those who are injured despite her introverted nature. Strengths: Lance, Brawl, Faith
Medli - daughter of a famous musician. Incredibly skilled at playing the harp and dreams of becoming a star as well. Kind to everyone she meets, but has a reputation for being clumsy. Strengths: Axe, Flying, Authority
Byrne - A quiet student who often goes unnoticed. However, he is immensely skilled in battle, which tends to surprise people given how often he disappears during training. Strengths: Sword, Brawl, Heavy Armor
Shad - a scholarly student who is extremely interested in history. Will approach any random student to help him with his research. Unlikely friend to Ashei. Strengths: Faith, Reason
Ashei - the daughter of a noble, but she would rather be a knight than an heiress. Blunt and sometimes downright undignified. Unlikely friend to Shad. Strengths: Sword, Axe, Riding
VERDANT WOLVES
These characters are Link’s friends and companions from throughout the series.
Link - house leader. Future leader of the Ordon Alliance, though born a commoner. Kind and genuine, as well as very charismatic, but hides insecurities. Strengths: Sword, Faith, Riding, Authority
Ravio - son of a merchant family. Very close to Link, almost like a brother. Quite lazy, and would rather scam people than study. Strengths: Axe, Bow, Flying
Midna - the princess of Twili, who came to the Academy as a foreign exchange student. Admired by many for her beauty and charm. Incredibly snarky and mischievous, and often gets into trouble. Strengths: Lance, Reason, Flying
Saria - the youngest student at the Academy. A sweet and charitable girl who loves animals and feels at home around nature. Strengths: Bow, Faith
Daruk - a noble who dreams of becoming an accomplished knight. Very friendly and outgoing, but has a fear of dogs. Strengths: Brawl, Heavy Armor, Authority
Fi - a girl who is very religious and is usually found praying. Very analytical and excels in her studies. Often responds to her peers without emotion, and many have never seen her smile. Strengths: Sword, Flying
Groose - Link’s self-proclaimed rival. Always trying to one-up Link, much to Link’s exasperation. Has a massive crush on Zelda, and is willing to join the Azure Owls for free. Strengths: Axe, Lance, Brawl
Malon - a farmer girl from the Ordonian countryside. Works extremely hard, as it took a lot for her father to send her to the Academy. Known for her distinct singing voice. Strengths: Bow, Reason, Riding
OTHER NOTES
Despite moving some things around, such as their locations on the map and certain events like the Tragedy of Sheikah (Duscur), the nations here are loosely based on those in Three Houses: Hyrule = Adrestia, Gerudo = Faerghus, and Ordon = Leicester. (oh and Twili = Brigid)
Though Hyrule is a KINGDOM and Gerudo is an EMPIRE, Hyrule is larger because Gerudo is still growing and expanding. However by the timeskip Gerudo won’t have grown much because of Hyrule’s declaration of war.
The Tragedy of Sheikah basically went as follows: the people of the Sheikah region were close allies of the royal family, but were then blamed for the mass assassination of several nobles, including the queen. In retaliation, Hyrule massacred the people of Sheikah.
Since elements were pulled from many LoZ games, the three house leaders aren’t based on any specific incarnation. However, if I had to pick, Ganondorf would be from Ocarina of Time, Zelda would be from Breath of the Wild, and Link would be from Twilight Princess.
I haven’t really thought of who would be the leader of the church, or the faculty, or the equivalent of Byleth, but then again it’s not like this has to be an exact copy of Three Houses anyway. However I do think that Telma would make a wonderful stand-in for Manuela.
There are still cats in the Monastery (speaking of the monastery, I don’t have a name for it). Link and Saria give them the most attention.
I hope you enjoyed this!

notes from bae: OK ROUND TWO.... LET’S TRY SUBMITTING THIS AGAIN....
in short: HJHGDSFGFSGJDFSHD??? JDGFSHGFHS??? I LOVE THIS??? I LOVE THIS??
this is so well thought out im going to cry. instead, I am just going to go through everything in order (prob not ) and scream at things i want to point out
'no one knows about the curse of Demise until later' IM BWUBWUWBWUBBWUB NOO.... NOOO..... THIS IS GOING TO TEAR APART FRIENDSHIPS..... i NEED to see the confrontations after this, because.... that's so heartbreaking and I don't want to imagine it... but i Need to see it :((
i AdOre how you incorporate characters from across the games, too. seeing chars like Byrne, Onox and Astrid make my lil Zelda heart happy...
and speaking of the characters, I love the strengths you gavce them!!! and the backstories... because this REALLy makes me want to see their supports. can you imagine.... Midna and Zant, Ravio and Revali, Groose and Zelda, Groose and everyone, Link and Ghirahim trying to hold a friendly conversation (which. oh dear. doesn’t work)... there is SO MUCH POTENTIAL and i can only IMAGINE!!
if you have any story details sketched out, I NEED to know!! i esp liked how you adapted the tragedy of Duscur to the tragedy of Sheikah, since there’s already hints of hostility towards the Sheikah in 10,000yrs ago-BotW, so it’s definitely not remiss that they wouldn’t be blamed ;; and this also makes me intrigued about Zelda’s motives!! Why does Hyrule declare war? because of her own personal reasons pertaining to the tragedy? in response to the Empire? something else entirely??
same with Ganondorf.... WHAT makes him declare war.... because I don’t think it’s just a case of conquer n conquer..... eyes emoji....
(and ofc our boy Lonk. with the best team, imo.... I Love the Verdant Wolves. would join them ASAP. they look like the house with the most Chaos but ALSO a lot of POWER...)
ESSENTIALLY I JUST NEED STORY DETAILS and house leader interactions!!! because, pre-timeskip, the triforce trio are friendly?? Yes??? And then it all falls apart??? Yes???????
TELMA AS MANUELA. PLEASE. PLEEEEEEAAASE..... she’d be absolutely fantastic!!! I also think we could have Kaepora Gaebora in replace of the white owl at the bulletin boards. Just for some friendly little advice...
and of course!! Link and Saria give the cats the most attention!! Saria plays the ocarina for them, and Link canonically picks them and runs around while giving them cuddles.... EXCELLENT....
I also think Ravio would be a very good replacement for Anna. y’know, just to get the best bargains for the Wolves.... maybe steal for them a house, too.....
LORENZ LOOKING LIKE ZANT I SDJHHDSFH WHY HAVENT I NOTICED THIS BEFORE IM GOING TO CRY. IC ANT LOOK AT LORENZ ANYMORE WITHOUT SEEING ZANT P L E A S E SAVE ME I DIDNT WANT THIIIIS
also? Groose joining the Owls without any recruitment requirements??? I. Groose ily but shUT UP STOP THAT!!! LINK Probably just facepalms mournfully.... who else is going to play around with the Groosenator with him :((
IN SHORT: I LOVE THIS. SO MUCH. IT HAS MADE MY DAY AND I AM GOING TO NEVER STOP THINKING ABOUT IT

Champion Swap Au (At least My version of it, could honestly be called “Role Swap au” I guess?)
I have ducks and botw on the mind folks! Not to mention head canons. Lots and lots of headcanons, stories, and theories. But uh, let’s get to the topic of this.
Breath of the wild!...It’s-it’s a good game... In all seriousness, I’ve recently got into the kick of it again and have been going through the internet for anything zelda related. And something that caught my eye were two specific aus. There was a role swap au (not actually the name of it and heck if it’s actually a set au or just a one time thing) and the “Sidon Champion” au. The first one just had characters swap places, but not the characters you’d expect to switch. To name a few switches: Riju goes to Zelda’s place, Link goes to King Rhoam, King Roam is in the Shiekah clan, and Zelda is in Urbosa’s place. I honestly think that’s a one off kinda idea someone made for fun or something. Heck, it could be the characters just dressing up as one another. Anyway, the Sidon au is as suggested. Instead of Mipha being the champion, Sidon is. Simple.
Now, the thought of the champions and descendants switching places came to mind and I thought I would kinda type it down for all to see. Now, let me just say I am obviously not the first to come up with this idea. Plenty of people probably thought about this, it’s a really predictable au. I just haven’t seen much for the idea and thought I’d kinda do my style on the role switch. With that all out of the way, let’s go.
To start, who’s switching with who here? I’ll just name the two characters and those two will switch places to make this easier and quicker to type for me:
Link and Zelda
Revali and Teba
Mipha and Sidon
Daruk and Yunobo
Urbosa and Riju
And then I’m having a difficult time picking if I want Impa and Rhoam to switch or Ganon and King Rhoam to switch. Voice your opinion, but that’s all who’s really switching. Another thing I thought about is the master sword. Seeing as Zelda goes into Link’s place and she’s more seen with a bow than a sword, I thought maybe the master sword and the light bow should switch. So it would be the master bow and light sword I guess. I mean, or ganon’s sword could be switched with the master sword. OR we just don’t touch that. Eh, tell me what you think. I never said I had everything set in stone.
But now that’s cleared up, how do I think they’ll act? Well, I feel like some would be the same, other’s not really. To start, Zelda and Link switches personalities. I just think that would work best considering they’ve swapped situations. While they swap personalities, I think Ravali, Teba, Daruk, Yunobo, Urbosa, and Riju would be the same as they are in the game. I know, kinda boring but it would be pointless to also switch their personalities. Then it’d be the same but with faces in different places. I imagine Teba and Riju gladly taking the title of champion while Yunobo doesn’t feel confident himself and needs some convincing. Then Revali is still a jerk, Urbosa be her cool self, and Daruk is awesome. Great! But wait, we’re missing two people... ah yes, Mipha and Sidon.
Okay, so these two are a little more difficult. I can see them both switching personalities but I could also see them just keeping their own still. Maybe a mix? I dunno. But this is something I’ll toss up to you guys. Do you think they should switch personalities or no? I do have some thoughts though, just two small things. So, I think Sidon should have a crush on Zelda to mirror how Mipha has a crush on Link. I think this is something that should stay even if he keeps his own personality. Another one is how Mipha could introduce herself. Going off the idea if the siblings switch personalities, Mipha needs to have her own pose. Y’know, like how Sidon gives that big smile and puts his hand up kinda. Y’know, like his pose? Well, I feel like Mipha would actually have this kinda pose:
Tumblr media
So you know, I was thinking her doing the peace sign by the side of her face initially while winking. Or she does a double peace sign. I don’t know why I think she’d do something like this, it just feels like it would fit.
So, the last thing I really have to say are the ability names and what they say. So this’ll be quick.
Teba: “Teba’s Squall has been prepared.”
Sidon: “Sidon’s gift is now ready!”
Yunobo: “Yunobo’s Guard is ready for you!”
Riju: “Riju’s wrath is ready to go!”
If you guys have alternative names, I am open as these were hard to make. Tried to make the words synonyms to gale, grace, protection, and fury. Teba and Sidon was the most difficult and I fell flat with the prince. Was going to do blessing or glory, but I didn’t think it really fit well (at least glory in terms of Sidon’s character, he just wouldn’t name it something with “glory” in it).
So yeah... this was a thing I can say I did. Nothing much, just spit balling some ideas since I can’t find much on this topic. So uh, see you later I guess?

Botw for the ask!
favorite female character: ZELDA ZELDA ZELDA
favorite male character: i feel like this is obvious have yall seen how much i draw link
favorite book/season/etc: this ask is specifically abt botw and not all zelda games but i think botw is probably my fave of the games ive played?? it might be tied with oot
favorite episode: not an episode but the memory where it’s raining and link is training while zelda sits under a tree and shes like ‘you were born into a family of the royal guard’ hits different
favorite cast member: revali’s va was the best in the game dont @ me
favorite ship: zelink
character I’d die defending: im gonna get RIDICULOUSLY specific here but in kakariko village if you do all the side quests you find out that one of the guys who guards impa’s house was a former yiga clan member who tried to leave but they killed his wife and were threatening his daughters so he was forced to go back to them and steal the little glowing ball thing that activates the shrine but he didn’t want to comply with them so he’d been training every night to be ready to fight the yiga clan when they showed up asking for the ball and basically what im saying is that guy did nothing wrong ever he just wanted a good life for his wife and kids
character I just can’t sympathize with: every old zora in zora’s domain who hates link because he happened to exist and was hylian at the same time as mipha
character I grew to love: revali!! my first playthrough i thought he was rlly annoying n idk what changed but i like him a lot now fsdfgh
anti otp: hmm cant think of any besides the obv like age gap ships n such

Okay... Umm...Pokemon or LoZ for the questionnaire thing. What are your answers?
I’ll do zelda bc like the only specific character I care abt in pokemon is cynthia so
Favorite character: Mipha
Least Favorite character: the creepy boot dude in botw
5 Favorite ships (canon or non-canon): Zelpha, SS Zelink, Miphlink, Kafei x Anju,
Character I find most attractive: HW Impa and Midna
Character I would marry: MIPHA
Character I would be best friends with: so many... the Champions, Midna, Fi, Tatl, all Links, all Zeldas
a random thought: baby ruto is a precious bean
An unpopular opinion: I really like BOTW’s Dark Beast Ganon fight. Yeah, it’s easy, but it’s god damn awesome and the music is some of the best final boss music i’ve ever heard
My Canon OTP: Kafei x Anju
My Non-canon OTP: Zelpha
Most Badass Character: Urbosa or Impa
Most Epic Villain: Majora and the Moon from Majora’s Mask. Most epic Ganon would probably either be OOT or TP
Pairing I am not a fan of: sid/link
Character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another): Tetra in Wind Waker is a great character, but I feel like the writers super underutilized her. Like they were going for a great thing like with OOT and Link and Zelda/Sheik’s relationship but they just didn’t have her involved enough for it really to be as impactful as OOT/SS/BOTW’s Zelda/Link relationships
Favourite Friendship: TP Link and Midna
Character I most identify with: Mipha bc I too am pretty shy and quiet
Character I wish I could be: ive probably said Mipha too much but...Mipha. I wish i had an ounce of her courage. Or Link’s for that matter, all my phobias would be freaking cured

001 with loz and 003 wih princess zelda if your still doing those asks!!!
001 | Loz
Favorite character: Princess Zelda!!!
Least Favorite character: uhmmm probably cawlin... i think it’s because while Groose has character development and Stritch kinda seemed like he was only going along with Groose, Cawlin was just kinda an asshole all the way through??? Also Tingle. he’s unsettling and his popularity is baffling. (Seriously HE gets like 3 spin-offs but Zelda doesn’t??? What the fuck??)
5 Favorite ships (canon or non-canon): Zelink, Midzel, Zelda’s Mom and Urbosa, midzelink.... Hylink and Telink, but those count as Zelink technically hmmm idk I don’t think I even have 5???
Character I find most attractive: Probably oot Link and Zelda, although as I get older, they get more on the cute side. Maybe Hylia and First Link? I mean, they’re not canon but boy do they look good.
Character I would marry: Zelda, Link, (Young) Impa, Urbosa, Ashei.... (why is Link the like, only good looking man in loz??)
Character I would be best friends with: Zelda, Mipha, Link, Ashei, Midna, Nabooru, Tetra
a random thought: Nintendo PLEASE let me play as Zelda I am begging
An unpopular opinion: Linear or not, SS has some of the most solid dungeons in loz
My Canon OTP: lmao dontcha know nintendo never lets otps be canon... come on now
My Non-canon OTP: Zelink
Most Badass Character: Link, obviously. Zelda too, in her own way. Botw Link specifically is pretty badass by the end of the game.
Most Epic Villain: Gotta go with Ghirahim. He’s the most fun imo, even if Ganon(dorf) is the classic
Pairing I am not a fan of: Sorry but I’ll never understand the appeal of hero/villain ships
Character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another): probably Calamity Ganon. There’s not really anything wrong with him per se, he’s just kinda boring and not that hateable since he really doesn’t register as all that cunning or calculated. He’s just like... a force of destruction, like a hurricane. Idk. I just thought he was a weak villain.
Favourite Friendship: Groose and Link. It’s just kinda cute how they settled their differences and kinda became bros.
Character I most identify with: Botw Zelda. While I luckily have supportive parents unlike her (poor bab), the whole feeling of inadequacy is very relatable.
Character I wish I could be: Any Zelda tbh.
003 | Princess Zelda
How I feel about this character: Best girl!!!! Gest birl!!!! protect at all costs!!!! I love her!!! love her lots!!!!!!!!
Any/all the people I ship romantically with this character: Link mostly, but also Midna and that’s pretty much it lmao... most characters don’t interact with her enough for me to ship or are a maternal figure to her and therefore rendered upshippable to me.
My favorite non-romantic relationship for this character: Urbosa! Also OoT Impa! Zelda and her buff moms!!!
My unpopular opinion about this character: She’s cool. Doesn’t seem that unpopular but let me tell you how many people felt the need to tell me she wasn’t when my post about her went viral.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon:
LET  ME  PLAY  AS  HER  NINTENDO  I  AM  BEGGING
Favorite friendship for this character: Hmmmm... maybe also Midna??
My crossover ship: uhhh crossovers really aren’t my thing sorry don’t really have one

Legend of Zelda Tag Game
I was tagged by @acefighter63 thank you so much!! This looks so fun <3
Legend of Zelda Tag
Favourite game in the series/Least favourite game in the series
I think my favorite (pre-botw) was Twilight Princess! I was just so enthralled by the fact Link could turn into a wolf and it was the first to go a realistic looking style!
I honestly don’t know that i have a least favorite?
Which games haven’t you yet played? I haven’t played the first games to come out because they are hard to get your hands on now, and i haven’t played Minish Cap, Four Swords, and A Link Between Worlds
Favourite character Princess Zelda, all the way. She’s a very strong female character and I think she needs to be looked at more!
Midna is a close second though.
Least favourite character I’m not sure that i really have one haha They are all fairly likable!
Favourite version of Link I really love Twilight Princess and Breath of the Wild Link, but Skyward Sword Link is such a donut i love him
Favourite version of Zelda Breath of the Wild because they make her more of a scientist/scholar who would rather not have the duties of a princess and i’m in love with that concept.
Favourite female character Probably Midna, Impa, or Mipha
Favourite male character Umm i kinda fell in love with Prince Sidon in BOTW.
Favourite main character
That Link guy is pretty cool
Favourite side character You know, i really love Beedle. He’s always so kind and high spirited. He puts a smile on my face
Favourite area (from any game) This is so hard to choose honestly... I really love Satori Mountain in BOTW because it’s just so peaceful? There’s a cherry blossom tree, a small pond, and green grass..i picture myself spending hours there.
Favourite villain I loved battling Zant in Twilight Princess!
Favourite Ship Zelink for sure!! It’s my favorite and I hope one day Nintendo spoils us with even more content.
NoTP I don’t really like Link with Dark Link? lol People ship that one and i’m like, but it’s him lol.
When did you get into the series? How did you find out about it? I basically started playing it when i was probably 8? 9 years old? I would go to my grandmas and she had the Nintendo 64 and i’d play Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask which tended to give me nightmares lol
If you could develop the next Zelda game, what would it be like? I think it would definitely be like BOTW in several ways because i’m in love with it. I think I would make it a sequel to BOTW so you can play Post-Calamity.
What spin-off game would you like to see? (ex - Sports game, Party game, Racing game, etc.) Uhhhh i honestly don’t know? Maybe another game like Link’s Crossbow Training but in a different game! ((Say what you will that game was fun ok))
Or like a Zelda version of the Mario Party games.
What cross-over game would you like to see with Legend of Zelda? (ex Legend of Zelda + Mario) I like the idea of Legend of Zelda + Okami maybe? Cause wolf link could meet Amaterasu and they could go on adventures.
What character would you put in Hyrule Warriors that isn’t already in the game? Ohhh. Mipha. Or all of the champions. Because i’d love to play as them!
If you could live in Hyrule, where would you live? What would you do for a living? (Be a little more imaginative than just “I wanna be the hero” or “I would be the princess of Hyrule”)
Going off of BOTW, I would love to live in the Akkala region? It seems like such a beautiful place and the trees are the colors of fall and it just seems like it used to be an overall really happy place.
We’ve sort of seen the beginnings of Hyrule - What do you think the endings would be?
This is a really great question! I might have to agree with Ace though and say Hylia ending Ganondorf once and for all herself.
If you only had 3 days to live in Termina, what would you do? Assume you are not playing the role of Link.
I think i’d go explore Clock Town and join in on the festivities.
Which piece of the Tri-Force do you think best represents yourself? I think wisdom. I tend to think more logically on things and i love to learn.
Draw yourself as a character from Hyrule (Don’t just put yourself in Link’s clothes, think about what the average citizens wear)
I think i will and post it separately when i get time!
If you had the full Tri-Force, what would you do with it? Oh god. I would protect them with my life and rule the land as peacefully as possible.
If you turned into a wolf or other form of beast/animal in the Twilight, what would you look like? Feel free to draw it.
I would love to be some sort of cat (surprise surprise). They’re honestly my spirit animal so??
What’s one thing that you want to see the most from the series? (ex - Remake of your favourite game, a new style of game, new TV show or comic, etc.)
I really hope that Akira Himekawa continues making her mangas for the different games! I’m currently reading the Twilight Princess one so I hope that they come out with either a Skyward Sword or BOTW one.
What DLC pack would you make for Hyrule Warriors that hasn’t already been done?
The Champions from BOTW for sure!
What do you think a Legend of Hilda game would be like? It would literally be the same, just in an alternate universe! lol
What character(s) or event would you like to see more backstory on?
I want more backstory on Link, to be honest. I’d love to learn who his parents are, if he had siblings, where he was born, etc.
What’s your favourite part of Legend of Zelda games? (ex - Getting all the collectibles, exploring, doing dungeons, fighting bosses, story, etc.)
I love doing side quests! Like in BOTW, i loved doing the Tarry Town quest and it’s very satisfying to help out the citizens of Hyrule.
If you could only play one Legend of Zelda game for the rest of your life, which one would it be? Definitely Breath of the Wild. Soooo much to do.
Are there any Figma, Nendoroids, World of Nintendo figures you’d want to see?
I want to see one of BOTW Princess Zelda.
Or Midna’s true form!
Are there any future Zelda games you’d like to see?
OH yeah for sure! I trust Nintendo with whatever they decide to do. I hope they continue to make the games for as long as they can.

Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Review
FYI - this will not be spoiler free. I don’t want anyone venturing into my review expecting me to only critique graphics or rave over the nostalgia I had with other games. I am including my entire review of the game under the read more.
Breath of the Wild is easily one of the best games that I have ever played. It was an endless adventure from start to finish. One of the complaints that many people have had for Skyward Sword is that they felt that for parts of the game you have your hand held too much. There is not enough freedom to decide how the storyline is going to move along or all the different ways to figure out a sidequest. Breath of the Wild is created in a fashion that you only are really being guided or having your hand held in the Great Plateau area (which is the first area). You have to complete four shrines before you can venture on quests across the rest of the area. I liked the easement into playing Breath of the Wild because when you begin in the Great Plateau region you do not encounter many difficult enemies. You just have to fend yourself from some bokoblins, and there’s one or two guardians that don’t pose much threat.
I wanted to begin my review of the game by explaining my general feel for the game. I’m going to delve deeper into my feelings about different parts of the game in the little categories below.
Storyline
I loved the story of Breath of the Wild. It was weaved together so artistically. The memories really gave you insight into how the war progressed 100 years ago. You also learn how each of the characters viewed Link as the hero, and he had to earn everyone’s respect. That reminded a lot of Twilight Princess or Ocarina of Time. There are characters living in Hyrule don’t want to admit that Link could be the hero to save them because he’s so ordinary. Now that 100 years have passed, most of the characters seemed to have given up on thinking that there’s a hero coming. The only tribes that immediately recognize you as being the champion are the Zora because they remember you from 100 years ago. The other tribes or races are very questionable of Link because they think he could be the enemy in disguise.
I loved the fact that they pulled technology into Breath of the Wild, and they used it as Hyrule’s downfall. It connected to Skyward Sword’s Lanayru region where all the ancient robots and technology advances had ended up coming to their own downfall. It kinda endorses that lesson that you should not mess around with things that you do not understand fully. The guardians and divine beasts were easily taken over by Ganon which led to terrible fate that happened 100 years ago. Link and the champions died as a resultant of the collective failure.
Part of me wishes that Ganon had taken the form of Ganondorf again. Ah, I loved Ganondorf and his dialogue. Ganon was still a great enemy don’t get me wrong, but there’s always the epic villain dialogue with Ganondorf. I thought that the ending of Breath of the Wild foreshadowed a future game following it that would be coming. The idea that evil is really never finished which was great I loved that part. It is something that has been a theme in all the Zelda games. Evil has not been finished for eternity, and there will be a temporary peace. This is true for Ocarina of Time to Twilight Princess because Link is the descendent of the Hero of Time and there is not a 1000 year time period between the two games at all. It’s probably within the timespan of 100 years.
I’ll probably be one of the few people to admit that I found the ending not to be that epic. There’s so much build for the ending of the game and I just felt that it wasn’t as fulfilling of an ending. It was just so abrupt and the game just ends with “Do you really remember me?” I find it really sweet, but I guess I wish there was more pulling in of the other characters into the ending besides Link and Zelda. I love the ending to Twilight Princess because it really leaves you heartbroken over Midna, and the player is able to imagine what might have occurred as a result to the characters affected. I’m not insinuating this is the worst ending of all time, but it seemed like a let down. My feelings are probably subject to change on this matter.
Characters
I thought a lot of the characters in this game were a lot more complex than they have been in past games. I’ve heard one of the biggest complaints about Princess Zelda being too “emotionless” or too “selfless”. In Breath of the Wild, the creators decided to explore a different side of her personality that I would probably say is left out in the games. Zelda has struggles and she’s easily frustrated by her own failures. She still has the signature Princess Zelda traits, but they added those traits that we often miss from her character.
I loved all the Champions (even Revali). I did not think of them as carbon copies of old Zelda characters that the creators felt like referencing again. Mipha is far different from Ruto in her mannerisms and the way she speaks. Daruk is not another Darunia or Darmani. He may be a Goron hero, but he doesn’t exhibit the same characteristics as either of those two leaders. Revali probably had the most annoying personality of all of the champions, but he grows on you over time. I think Revali is a lot easier to relate to because he really wants to be the best (cue the Pokemon theme song), but he’s not the chosen one. He’s struggling to handle that which inevitably leads to him treating Link in a depreciating manner. Urbosa doesn’t really have any resemblance to Nabooru for me besides her being a great Gerudo leader.
I don’t think I’ll be the first to say it, but I loved the Yiga clan. I thought it was so fun to encounter any of the members as you walked along the paths in the game. I encountered a Yiga clan member before I even realized there was a Yiga clan in the game because I had not interacted with Impa about it. Once you get into the Haunted Wasteland region, you get to interact with the Yiga clan hideout. I loved sneaking into the hideout and throwing bananas to trick the Yiga clan members. A signature trait of the Zelda games is giving all the enemies these odd quirks, which for the Yiga clan is their weakness for bananas. You might think that the Yiga clan leader would be intimidating and strong, but nope he’s the complete opposite. In deeper analyzation, you do realize how evil the clan is, but you can still look at the clan as the jokester enemies.
Gameplay
Breath of the Wild had one of the smoothest graphics and gameplay that I’ve ever played. The coolest part of the game I thought was the ability to see so much distance. You could really picture yourself inside the game witnessing all this beautiful scenery from the side of the mountain you’re climbing. I think one of my favorite parts of playing the game was being able to run and move the camera to the front of Link and watch the Guardians begin to chase after Link. I honestly think the Guardians are one of the coolest additions to this Zelda game.
Overall, I do not have really any complaints about a majority of the enemies in the game. Most of them appeared really difficult to beat if you did not have the correct weapons or shields. Lynels were easily the most difficult enemy to defeat in the open world portion of the game. I didn’t beat my first one until I had beaten all four divine beasts. Once I got the barbarian clothing set and got strong weapons, it was a lot easier to attempt to kill all these enemies.
My biggest complaint regarding the gameplay was the glitching. The Kokiri Forest where the master sword is located had the most beautiful graphics in the entire game. It was probably the glitchiest area on the entire map as well. As much as I loved the forest, I did not want to stay in any glitching region on the map, so I would spend the least amount of time in the forest as I could.
However, that was not the most annoying glitch in the entire game. The red moon was a nice idea to just have the enemies regenerate every few game days at midnight. This way the creators had an excuse to respawn the enemies. When I was playing the game probably every day a month or so ago, my game got to the point where the red moon would randomly spawn in the middle of the day. It would be 3 p.m. in the game and I just finished defeating all these enemies and they would suddenly respawn. This means I lost all my rewards and have my heart container refilled. Once I stopped playing the game so frequently, the glitching had eventually stopped. It was still a glitch that should not have been as bad as it was.
Voice Acting
This was probably one of my least favorite parts of the game. I’m not really big into voice acting for video games to begin with. I like to imagine the voices myself, and often times, I find myself annoyed with the voices gaming companies choose for characters. If anyone reads any of my posts, then they know that Princess Zelda is one of my favorite characters of all time. In Breath of the Wild, I found myself more off put by her character, which is mainly due to the voice actress they chose. It appeared that they wanted her to have this royal, sort of posh voice which just came off annoying because of how forced it sounded. I thought most of the other voices were fine and fit the characters to an extent, and it would have been fine if they had gotten another voice actress for Zelda.
Clothing & Cooking
I loved all the different outfits you could receive in the game. I got a good portion of them, but I did not max out all the clothing options. My favorite outfit is the tunic for the Hero of the Wild because it’s the signature Link outfit for all the games. That was probably the hardest outfit to max up in levels, and you can’t get it until you finish every single shrine in the game (there’s 120 of them). I really liked using Barbarian armor because your attack went up with that entire outfit. Of course, the champion’s tunic is one of my favorites as well. I think there really isn’t an outfit I disliked in this game. I loved dressing Link in traditional Gerudo garb when he needed to get into the Forbidden City. Oooh, the dark link outfit is sooo cool just based off the looks, but your night speed increases by a ton. It’s so nice.
Anyway, the cooking in this game was nice because you didn’t have to cut a bunch of grass to get hearts. You could make these really healthy meals that would max out all your heart containers and give you extra hearts. Creating elixirs was a great addition to the game because you can’t consume meals when your hearts are maxed out. However, most elixirs do not give back hearts so they just increase your your speed or defense up a level or two. The elixirs last as long as the time that’s associated with them and it’s not game speed hours- it’s real time. The combination of clothing and cooking made this game so fun. I still felt bad for killing the animals in Breath of the Wild despite it being a critical component of the game.

Okay, so - by now you know that there are 4 Champions (Zora, Goron, Rito, Gerudo), and that they're all dead. (Well, I mean, I'm assuming you know that given Mipha and Daruk.) Back when you first started I sent you a message about how I couldn't help but think that Hunter would love the Sheikah Slate, and you agreed, and then were like "but he's probably one of the dead Sheikah in the shrines." BUT, when thinking about RR!Link in this situation, I had a (more painful) idea. (1/?)
Basically, if this WAS RR!Link instead of BotW!Link, wouldn’t it make more sense for the Champions to be chosen from, well, RR? Like, instead of Mipha as the Zora Champion, maybe it was Acqul, for instance. Instead of the Gerudo Champion (idk if you know her name yet so I’m being careful), it was Neesha. The Rito didn’t exist in RR, so maybe the Sheikah actually got to have a Champion here, and that was Hunter. And so instead of having Hunter be a spirit in a shrine that doesn’t get to (2/3)
really say much of anything or have a personality, MAYBE he gets to instead be a spirit trapped in a Divine Beast for 100 years until Link finally comes through to take it back from Ganon, and he gets to have a post-mortem spirit conversation with his best friend, and Link has only just recovered some memories of him but it’s STILL enough to hurt, and it’s all very emotional and painful and such. :D Just a thought! (3/3)
Oh man, if it WAS RR!Link, there’d be a hundred ways to adapt it.  There’s:
the way you just described,
using the sages as the Champions (so, Laruto (getting her call to be a Sage/Champion and Acqul not taking Nabooru’s advice), Darunia (or next in line if he dies), Nabooru (or next in line if she dies), and Saria in place of the birds.  (Impa would still be Impa, Zelda would still be Zelda, and Rauru would be dead (:D) or an owl ( :( ))
keeping the sages as sages and using other folk as champions (I could tweak some things, so roughly the same layout as you’ve said, except instead of Hunter in place of the Rito, I’d use Malon and say the Horse!People evolved over time and became literal Bird!People, probably after making a deal with some Epona-like spirit of movement) - in this scenario, I’d stick Hunter as the spirit that POWERS the eyePad, so he can still be providing Link with advice and guidance and strategy, but yeah, he’s totally dead now
I could leave everything as it is - after Ruto’s death, Acqul took Nabooru’s advice and fucked off with Laruto to keep her away from people talking about Sages, leaving the Zora to pick a new leader (Mipha’s father being next in line).  Hence, Mipha and Sidon’s family in charge.  Then I kill all the Sages in RR and other leaders arise behind them (…or I don’t and Darunia appointed Daruk (probably a cousin) as the champion (what’s better, a Divine Beast, or a Divine Beast AND a Sage - best to split the responsibilities).  I don’t know the Rito/Gerudo stories yet, but I figure that out later.  I’d probably still keep the Rito being descendents of the Lon clan).  BUT the old characters from a hundred years ago basically, after Link got fucked up, spent the rest of their lives setting things up for his return (har har) so he’d be able to do what he needs to.  Hunter would build all those shrines (”Lazy fucker loves puzzles, this is the ONLY way to get him to train, fucking dead and he’s still ruining all my plans”), Neesha would do…something I can’t think of off the top of my head (I was up very late last night and I’m very tired and this post probably doesn’t make sense as it is) but I figure something out and it’s useful and emotional when Link finds the aid she’s given him across the ages (OR she’s still alive and she’s just super old now, Rue-style, somewhere in Gerudo town).  Same for Malon.
There’s a lot of potential, I guess, is what I’m saying.

Breath of the Wild non-spoiler gameplay update:
I’ve logged about 30 hours into the game so far, and I’m nowhere near done. And believe me I haven’t just been running around looking at stuff. A lot of that has been actual activity towards progressing through both skills/stats and the storyline. There’s just THAT much to do.
Onto actual spoilery stuff:
Ok, gameplay spoilery stuff:
-Who the fuck are the Yiga clan and why do they want to kill Link? If there’s one thing that’s driving me in this game, it’s finding out who these a-holes are and why they started Hyrule ISIS just to assassinate Link, because they don’t seem affiliated with Ganon. Seriously, fuck these guys. Also: they fight with sickles. Who fights with a sickle? Honestly. Commie bastards.
-I got a house! I found it by accident. There is a house in Hateno village behind those cubey IKEA homes, just across a small bridge. The guys there are tearing it down, explaining that it was abandoned and the village had thus voted to tear it down. But then you can jokingly offer to buy it. Well, fuck that. I was dead serious. I wanted to see how far I could go. Even the 30,000 initial rupee price didn’t deter me (I’ve played Animal Crossing, motherfucker! No mortgage scares me now!) You talk them down to only 3k rupees, which is easy to do if you’re finding gems (blow up black shiny rocks) and doing shrines (find the extra hidden chests in them. There’s always usually one extra one besides the one easy-to-find one, and sometimes you can find silver rupees in them that are worth 100). Diamonds are not super rare (I’ve found like 3 so far) and are worth 500 rupees.
-I LOVE that rupees can actually buy you dope shit finally. Not buy you some shit potion you can get for free, or a heart. Like, Nintendo FINALLY listened and got down to developing a proper small scale economy.
-The blood moon is cool af and a great way to repopulate the world so there’s no end of weapons and stuff. This is especially important because I’ve heard there is a quest to get some super hype armor sets that you can only get through collecting monster shit, so respawning for farming was going to be a requirement for that alone.
-Amiibos:
1) If you tap the Ganondorf amiibo, you get a version of his really cool ass big sword from that Spaceworld 2000 demo. I love cleaving enemies to death with that thing. Best part is, if it breaks, I know I can get another one eventually.
2) Sheik drops sheikah stuff
3) Zelda (original smash bros) gives fruit and gems
4) Link (original smash bros) dropped EPONA. And her stats are amazing. Fast as hell, always obeys commands, etc. Dopest horse in the game so far.
5) 30th anniversary Link dropped a bunch of items that I can’t remember now.
And I haven’t scanned my Ocarina of Time Link because he’s at my desk at my office. I’ll have to bring him home and try him. It’s totally worth doing the Amiibo shit. I really want to get that Wolf Link one now just to get that. DAMN YOU EXPLOITING CAPITALISM, NINTENDO
Storyline spoilery stuff:
-I feel like I have made the least progression on the story. Of the 18 memories, I got 3 so far. I’m pretty sure after 30 hours I was done Ocarina of Time and all the other games after it and had the whole story by now. This fucking game? NOPE.
-I have memories 1, 3, and... whatever the one is with Mipha where she’s healing Link (aww). I thought Zelda’s voice actress was not a good choice at first, but she has grown on me. Mostly through the two memories I have seen so far. I thought it cute when she’s telling Link she’s “trying to be more empathetic”. The idea that Zelda isn’t some perfect being intrigues me, and from what I’ve seen so far they’ve built her as a very imperfect girl who tries to project the opposite.
-HE WAS DEAD ALL ALONG. So I was wrong. The old man wasn’t Ganondorf. He was actually the king. OH WELL. I like his Japanese voice better than his English one (in before WEEABOO)
-Everyone wants to get into Link’s pants, as is tradition.
-I like talking to Impa’s granddaughter in my underwear. Her reaction is great.
-I love that the gerudo have their own words for stuff. Though they are hella big. I keep waiting for them to demand snoo snoo from Link. So many crushed pelvises...
-I saw a review that said there were too many borderline creepy dude characters in the game. Their argument seemed to imply it was demeaning to women. I met all the ones they were talking about and, to be fair I think the stereotype is demeaning to men, but it’s also a staple trope in anime. I don’t really want to make excuses to anyone for Nintendo, though. They’re a big company. People should be free to criticize. I just don’t see it as much of a problem as other trends I’ve seen in gaming. Basically, there are bigger fish to fry.
-Did I mention that the gerudo are cool as hell?
-Probably more of a gameplay spoiler but the race-created weapons are also everything I ever wanted.
