Lyrics in Bolt Italics
Song Used/ Song Inspiration:
Tumblr media
An air of melancholy surrounds you, while standing on the terrace, soaked in rain. The loud music coming from inside, fading out. Rain, your only relief right now, heavy drops against your soft skin, washing away the emotions you’re desperately trying to get rid of.
“Hey” comes a soft voice from inside, close yet feels so far. You won’t turn to face him, not in this state, not when you’re eyes, your lips and every inch of your face will open your heart to him. Not after realising how everything you felt in your heart doesn’t reach his, how it feels like a one-way route that leads to a dead-end.
“You’ll get sick” is there a hint of concern? Or is it irritation? Or just the responsibility of being the Captain, looking out for everyone. “Come inside”. You don’t move, still facing away, looking at the city. Silence growing between the two of you.
“Everyone left, and the team has retired to their rooms for the night” You can hear footsteps, the voice now louder. His hand on your shoulder, shivers go down your body, even the rain didn’t have that effect on your skin.
“Let’s go in, come on” Steve rubs your shoulder softly. Your dark hair is drenched wet, sticking to your skin. It’s pretty dark now, rainfall making in darker, city lights glimmering. When you don’t move, you hear a deep breath coming from Steve.
He turns you around, you look down, he holds your chin, tilting your face up to make you look at him. Gently stroking your face, as if to learn it by heart. An artist’s touch maybe? His touch feels hot, contrast to your current state.
Strands of dark wet hair on your face, you look like a beautiful painting, a work of art, Steve thinks, but you don’t know that. What you know is that you won’t ever be good enough for Steve Rogers, or rather it’s what you think. He pushes the loose strands of hair behind your ears.
You still don’t talk. Not a word from your mouth. But your mind is racing, one of your favourite hindi songs comes to your mind.
Yuhi Baras Baras
Kaali Ghata Barse
Hum Yaar Bheeg Jaaye
Iss Chaahat Ki Baarish Mein
Meri Khuyli Khuli Lato Ko Suljhaye
Tu Apni Ungliyon Se
Main To Hoon Isi Khwaayish Mein
You close your eyes shut. Can’t bear to look at the man who has the power to win your heart in seconds and break it even quicker. Everything that you used to think means something, the small talks, the shared smiles, the happy times, probably doesn’t mean much to him. If it does, then why would he dance with that girl in the party like that? Or are trying to make excuses for the fear of rejection?
“Look at me, please” You don’t.
“Fine” Steve tells you.
Suddenly you don’t feel the ground below your feet. You feel strong arms around your thighs and stomach. Legs dangling slightly. Your hands-
You open your eyes to see your hands gripping Steve’s shirt tightly while he carries you inside, bridal style. He is drenched too. His wet shirt felt comforting against your fingers.
Steve puts you down only after he takes you to your room. You immediately miss the warm contact, suddenly too aware of your drenched state, you feel cold.
Steve turns to leave and you want to stop him. As if he can listen to your thoughts, he stops in his tracks, but still doesn’t face you.
“I-“ he tries to form a sentence instead of blabbering everything he wants to express to you. “The person I care about the most, the only person I have feelings for, is the one who is not talking to me right now” He stands there, clenching his fist.
Until you hold his hand and he feels relaxed, unclenching his fist.
“Steve, I-“
He turns to look at you, your dark brown eyes look mesmerising, even if brimmed with tears.
“I feel like I don’t deserve you.” You murmur
“You’re right, you deserve so much better”
Is that what he thinks? Is that why whenever you felt something could happen, you felt him trying to pull himself away from you?
“Steve”
You stand on your tip toes, leaning in, hoping he won’t pull away, he doesn’t.
Steve crashes his lips against yours, you let him control it, he does.
You melt in the kiss as his tongue explores your mouth beautifully, always the artist’s touch.
His strong arms holding you close to his body, inspite of the wet clothes, you could feel the warmth from your bodies.
Steve pulls away looking at those beautiful eyes again, then your swollen lips, he traces it with his thumb.
“I love you, so much” Steve opens his heart to you.
“I love you too, so much. So much that it hurts when you’re far, when you’re not with me, when you pull yourself away from me, Steve” It’s your turn now.
He kisses you again, this time trailing kisses from your mouth to the corner of your lips, your jaw, your neck. He licks and kisses your neck to his heart’s content. You grip at his blonde hair.
“Stay, please” You plead.
He nods.
You start unbuttoning his wet shirt. After asking for permission. You remove it.
His body is glistening. You plant a soft kiss on his chest. His breathing gets heavier.
You hold his hand and take him to the bed, stopping just at the edge.
“Wait here, I still have your t-shirt and shorts that I borrowed. I’ll bring them, get changed.”
“I’ll wear the shorts, you wear my t-shirt” he tells you with a slight authority in his voice. You bite your lip, before getting him the shorts and going to the bathroom to get rid of your wet clothes.
You look at your reflection in the bathroom mirror, wearing his t-shirt. A soft smile on your face.
When you come out, you find him already lying on the bed wearing nothing but his shorts. You stand in front of him, wearing only his t-shirt and your undergarments. Steve looks at you from head to toe. Again and again before he feels he has taken everything in.
You join him on the bed, he pulls you closer to him. You rest your head against his chest, his heart beat calms you down. You pull the blanket to cover you both nicely.
“I am sorry if I’ve hurt you, Sunshine” You smile at the nickname. He called you sunshine for the first time on a sunny day, when the sun made your skin glow into the most beautiful colour Steve had ever seen. Your warmth felt like sunshine.
“It’s okay Stevie.” You nuzzle your head against his chest as he softly strokes your back.
In this moment of togetherness and closeness, that song plays your mind again.
Sardi Ki Raaton Mein
Hum Soye Rahe Ek Chaadar Mein
Hum Dono Tanha Ho
Na Koi Bhi Rahe Is Ghar Mein
You hum the tune softly.
“What song is it?” Steve asks, you smile.
“The one that was made for this moment.”
He kisses the top of your head as you both surrender yourself to slumber, bodies wrapped with each other.

English translation of the lyrics (even though the feel is stronger in the original words)
Yun hi baras baras kaali ghata barse
Let the dark clouds pour
Hum yaar bheeg jaaye
Let us get drenched
Is chahat ki baarish mein
In this rain of love
Meri khuli khuli latton ko suljhaye
May you straighten my open hair
Tu apni ungliyon se
With your fingers
Main toh hoon issi khwaish mein
This is my only desire
Sardi ki raaton mein
In the cold nights
Hum soye rahe ek chaadar mein
Let us sleep together under one blanket
Hum dono tanha ho
May both of us be alone
Na koi bhi rahe is ghar mein
And may there be no one in this house

Macgyver 5x10 final scene continuation fanfic
....“Hiding your emotions. Did they go way?”
Riley stares deeply into Mac’s eyes, trying to decipher what she sees written on Mac’s face. There is such a raw intensity about it - a longing she’s spent many nights dreaming about but never really believed she would experience with Mac.
A little frown appears on her forehead as she replies, “Why does it matter Mac? You’re going to propose to Desi.”
A flash of hurt skates across his face. Brokenly he responds, “It changes everything, Riles. I admit that my desire to propose to Desi wasn’t as well thought out as it should have been.” He glances away from Riley and gets a faraway look in his eyes, “Ever since my dad died, and losing Jack, I’ve been searching for a way to stabilize and clarify my relationship with Desi. I thought that by making that grand gesture by proposing marriage would get us back on the right track in our relationship. Admittedly, not my best, but I am so tired of feeling alone, like I don’t really belong to anyone. The uncertainty was driving me nuts. Until your confession, I thought you only saw me as a really good friend. I love our friendship, and the thought of screwing it up terrifies me. You’re the most stable, secure relationship in my life. The thought of losing that paralyzed me. You know what I see when I look at you? You are the epitome of all that I ever wanted in a woman, but never thought I had the chance to have. You’re a smart, beautiful, resourceful genius hacker who knows how to improvise and has the kindest heart of all the people I know. You love fiercely and have saved me in every way imaginable. It’s always been you, ever since I unlocked your handcuffs and you joined me in this crazy, dangerous life. You drew me under your spell and slowly filled in all of the cracks that I didn’t know I had. You are my rock, my best friend, my home. So I need to know, am I too late?”
Shocked by what she hears, Riley takes a deep breath centering herself as her mind races with this new information. Tilting her head slightly to the side, she says, “You really thought proposing marriage was the answer to your relationship issues? Not your best idea Mac. I really thought you were happy with Desi. That’s all I’ve ever wanted for you is to be happy. Before I answer your question, I need to know if I say yes, will you go back to your original plan and propose to Desi?”
“No. Desi and I were done the minute I heard your confession to Bozer. I think she too knew that we weren’t the right fit for each other, and was tired of trying to fix what proved to be an unfixable relationship. We agreed to break off our relationship for good just prior to today’s debriefing in the war room. I’ve spent the last few hours wrestling with what to do about your confession. Do I act on it or let it go? On the one hand, your confession was like being given a cold drink of water after getting lost in the desert. It soothed the voice in my head taunting me that I don’t really belong to anyone. My entire family is dead. I know our group at the Phoenix is family, but I wanted something more. Something deeper. A personal connection - a person to wholeheartedly love and who would love me with that same passion. On the other hand, hearing that I was breaking your heart gutted me. I feel horrible for having caused you pain. You’re the last person I ever wanted to hurt. Learning Leanna had been killed reinforced my desire to see you. Life is short. I don’t want to waste another moment wondering what might have been. I know, no matter what comes next, whether you confirm that those feelings you buried did in fact go away or not, the no knowing would be worse than taking the risk to find out if my own buried feelings for you are reciprocated.”
She looks deeply into his eyes, contemplating how to respond to all that she’s learned. Mac - her best friend Angus Macgyver - admitted to having feelings for her. Can she risk everything and tell him the truth? She’s never stopped loving him, and never will. Out of nowhere, a lyric pops into her head. If you want to know if he loves you so, it’s in his kiss. “Could it really be that easy?” she thinks.
“Let’s find out,” she thinks. Riley reaches up and snakes her arms around his neck drawing him in for a deep, passionate kiss. It was like nothing she’d ever imagined. It was so much better.
Surprised by her move, it takes Mac a second to react to the fact that he’s kissing Riley Davis. Once his brain registers what’s happening, he pours all of the longing and buried feelings into expressing how much she means to him. When he finally draws back to get some much needed air, he looks down at her. His Riley. He now understands what Bozer meant when he said he didn’t want to die before getting the chance to kiss Riley. Getting the chance is life changing.
Riley looks up at Mac checking to see his response because she’s wrecked right now. She’d imagined them kissing would be good, but this was exponentially better. She never wants to stop.
He looks as wrecked as she feels.
She realizes they are still standing in her door way and he could probably use a rest and an ice pack or three. She gently grabs his hand leading him to her couch pointing for him to sit down before going to her fridge and pulling out a couple bottles of his favorite beer and a bag of frozen carrots. He’s limping slightly and given the hell they’ve gone through, she knows he’s got to be covered in bruises.
“Do you want to live in a world of what if and might have been, or will you seize this opportunity to let out all of the emotions you’ve bottled up inside and come home?” She argues with herself.
She walks back over to the sofa, handing Mac his drink before sitting down on the chair across from him. He’s fidgeting. She grabs a paper clip and hands it to him. He smiles gratefully.
“Mac,” she whispers, “My feelings...they never left. No matter how much I suppressed them and tried to move on, I couldn’t. My heart has been and always will be yours. I’m never leaving you. It’s you and me no matter what.”
A huge grin breaks out on Mac’s face, causing the wound on his cheek to throb a bit. He lifts the frozen carrots to dull the pain and gets ready to speak.
Riley holds up a finger causing Mac to pause before speaking, “But Mac, I want to say a few things. While I still have feelings for you, I’m not ready to be in a relationship with you. Honestly, you’re not ready to be in a relationship with me either. I’m scared if we jump into this too quickly, it will flame out, making us just another failed statistic in the long list of Phoenix operatives whose relationships that haven’t worked. Besides we still have to work with Desi. Let’s be smart about this so that it doesn’t create a rift in the team. I have no intention of being your rebound, second choice or safety net. I need you to prove to me that we can still work together smoothly despite of our feelings. Show me that the knowledge of our feelings hasn’t compromised our ability to work together. I want you to promise me that you will be willing to work on finding healthier coping mechanisms to deal with your trauma. Maybe even talk to a therapist to see what kind of tools they have to help you process your negative emotions. I’ll go with you if you want to a session or two. It’d wreck me if I lost you because your body can’t handle all of the emotional trauma you’ve suffered and you ended up stuck in a panic attack like what happened in Kazakhstan on a future mission.”
His euphoria at their first kiss deflates a little bit at her words, but he understands where she’s coming from. He knew he needed to make some changes, not just for Riley but for himself. He admitted to himself that his erratic behavior was rooted in the fear of being alone.
“Does that mean I can’t ask you out on a date until I can prove to you that we can make this work professionally?”
“Let’s take a few months and focus on working on ourselves before we talk about going on dates and getting into a relationship. Don’t worry. We will still see each other and hang out. We will do it together, like we do everything else. You jump. I jump. You go boom, I go boom. So prove me wrong. Show me that not all Phoenix relationships have to end in heartbreak. Show me some of that infamous Angus Macgyver charm I’ve heard so much about. Sweep me off my feet if you can,” She smirked.
Grinning widely at the challenge issued, Mac replies, “I’m looking forward to it Miss Davis.”
Game on.

Joshua Tree Playlist-A Macriley Fic
So I’ve done it again, not sure what’s wrong with me or where this came from but enjoy my obsession. Thanks for the motivation and support from my other posts. I’m still waiting for my invite from Ao3 but wanted to share this monster with you guys.
This fic was inspired by music that I thought fit the general tone of this story, so I decided to make a spotify playlist linked Joshua Tree Playlist hence the name. Now of course you guys don’t have to listen to it, I know we all have different preferences, but I would recommend listening to the last song by Dylan Schneider “Wannabe” so you get the full context of what I was trying to write. I also mention the songs that I recommend listening to. Well anyways Enjoy and do let me know what you think!
This is very long, just a heads up! Please let me know if I should continue writing.
Joshua Tree Playlist
Chapter 1: Day 1
Mac sat on the deck after his run, another sleepless night. The nightmares felt more and more real each day. Looking out on the early morning LA skyline he felt like a stranger in his own life. There was so much anger in him that he didn’t know what to do with himself. The loss, the tragedy that was his life felt like a weight he couldn’t bear. He’d give anything to go back to that pressure chamber in Georgia again instead of this, at least things made sense then. He was spiralling, he was aware. Scrubbing his hands across his face he let another breath pass. He didn’t hear her coming but saw her shapely bronze legs standing in front of him dressed in khaki shorts and a black singlet one hand holding a backpack and the other on her hip. It was definitely early for her to be up, especially on an off day.
He raised an eyebrow at her, “what’s up Riles?”
“Get up, we’re going on a trip.” She simply said swinging the backpack at his feet.
“What?” he was confused by the situation unfolding in front of him, maybe he was dreaming?
She turned to walk back into the house, “You heard me Macgyver, get your ass in the car in 5!”
He stood up and swiped the backpack off the floor and chased after her. She was already in the truck sunglasses pulled down with her arm out of the window, fingers drumming against the door. “Riley.”
She nodded her head in the direction of the car, “come on, we haven’t got all day! Get in!”
He could have stood his ground but honestly, he was too tired to argue with her. So he threw his backpack in the back and got into the passenger seat. She started the car and connect her phone to the Bluetooth, a playlist called Joshua Tree Playlist that was curated by Riley Davis came on the on-screen deck. He discovered that Riley didn’t just listen to Beyonce, old school rap, and rock. Her music like her was multifaceted and ranged from what you’d expect to complete surprises. He even walked in on her listening to Harry Styles to which she had just shrugged and simply said “I’m confident in myself to like what I like, besides watermelon sugar is a tune.” But currently, she quickly scrolled and threw on Mumm-ra’s “Summer” the indie rock song had a classic indie bass and guitar combo as the intro, she shimmed her shoulders to the music. He couldn’t help but actually crack a smile at her antics.
Her head turned to him then as she bopped to the music and gave him that brilliant smile lipping the words to the song “I’m only happy in the summer...I’m only happy with you, lover...” She was like a prism, all clear but as soon the light hit her she was vibrant colors and sounds. “Now that’s more like the Mac I know. Nice to have you back for a second.”
Her words hit him fully, leave it to Riley to bring him back down to earth. To notice that he was struggling. He didn’t know what to say, so he opted for the next best thing. “Are you going to tell me where this semi-voluntary kidnapping is going?”
“Hey, no kidnapping vibes here. We’re taking a couple of days and chilling out. Matty already approved it. We have four days to ourselves. So we’re going on a road trip! Next stop Joshua Tree.” She simply stated as she drove down the hill and towards I-10E.
He widened his eyes and gave his head a shake, letting loose a chuckle he threw up his hand and let them slap his highs. “Ok! I’ll bite.” the brilliance of her smile made him feel like he made the right choice, the breeze already warm blew in through the open windows, the loose strands from her bun floating around her face.
“Yea! Bozer is going to meet up with us there, he has an errand to run before. Unfortunately, Desi can’t make it, she’s on a mission.” she said sparing him a glance.
He shifted in his seat if he were honest, he was now just looking forward to spending time with her and Boz. “Yea, probably for the best.”
She didn’t say anything waiting for him to continue if he wanted to. The great thing about Riley was she pushed when there was something worth pushing for but otherwise gave him space to talk to her on his own time. Without saying it, he could feel her body asking him if he and Desi were ok.
“I’m not sure I’m what she needs right now.” He simply stated and the unstated that he probably didn’t need their complicated and messy relationship right now either. They were too volatile and while that gave spark to great sex, it left everything else scorched and untouchable. It wasn’t fair for Desi to be stuck with him while he was stuck in his head.
He watched Riley shift in her seat, lately, he noticed there was a strange distance between them but then here she was stealing him away as the old Riley would. Maybe four days would give him the answers to why he felt like she was slipping away slowly, the thought put such a tight feeling in his throat, he couldn’t lose one more person. Especially not Riley, not his amazing, smart, loyal, beautiful friend singing along to a cover of Billy Joel’s “Vienna”. Suddenly it was easy to smile again, it didn’t take all of his efforts. “Hey, did you pack my bag for me? Or am I gonna have to survive in these running clothes for four days?”
He didn’t think to change when she gave him 5 minutes to meet her at his truck.
“I got you, Mac, everything you need is in there boy! Why would I give you an empty backpack?” she tapped on with the music and threw him another smile. If the next few days were going to be filled with smiling Riley he was already glad she kidnapped him voluntarily.
“Did you go through my underwear and sock drawers?!” He asked narrowing his eyes and laughing as a soft blush spread across her cheeks, Riley Davis can be bashful what do you know.
“I mean we’re all adults here, no need for this juvenile behaviour. Yes, I packed your undies and socks.” He could see her rolling her eyes behind her sunglasses, but he was amused by the blush that graced her face. Mac always thought Riley was attractive, men and women constantly commented on her beauty. Her looks helped them with countless ops. He wasn’t blind, just looked past the obvious. She was his friend, Jack’s daughter, and a relationship he couldn’t sacrifice. But these moments when they’re alone and he could look at her and steal glances he saw just how gorgeous she was as a being.
They had become closer the past couple of years for sure, he felt completely at ease with her. Could talk to her about anything, seek her counsel about things that were on his mind. She usually could read him already ready to jump into whatever stupid situations he got himself into. Even now he couldn’t believe that she followed him into Codex. She had told him she trusted him, and he felt like he could breathe just from those words. Knowing she stood with him gave him the strength to follow through.
They stopped for coffee and bagels, laughing about the guy in front of them that took ages to order. They made fun of a couple of housewives of Beverly hills type and how Bozer would’ve recognized who they are. It was just easy his mind kept saying to him. When he pointed to a smidge of cream cheese in the corner of her mouth, she attempted to licked it away with her tongue, he couldn’t help but gulp down some of his iced coffee and watch her miss it. Reaching over he brushed the side of her lips and without thinking licked his thumb clean. She froze for a second and looked at him with an intensity that he couldn’t read. “You were struggling” he shrugged.
“Thanks,” was all she said with an almost shy smile, unaware of course of how that small act sent fire all over her. She was thankful that she was on her last bite and he was already finished with his bagel, now casually leaning back in his chair letting the sun warm his face, his golden hair casting a halo around him. She needed to run away, “ready to start the journey again?”
Smiling he stood, they took their unfinished coffee and bottles of water with them. For the next 15 minutes, they joked about the new episodes of Rick and Morty, as more of her playlist played in the background, glancing at the screen he saw the current song was “Good Life” by Randell Kent. The lyrics washing over him as they finally pulled into the expressway. This could be a good life, at least it felt that way right now.
They passed the next 15 minutes in silence, but it was the kind they had often where it was just comfortable. They didn’t feel the need to fill the void. They just listened to music and watched the road and let their minds wander.
She hummed along with the new song that came on, he never noticed that she had a pretty nice singing voice. “...don’t overthink it...just surround me...hmm” LÉON's "Surround Me" played in the car. He leaned against his window and watched her quietly.  “Why don’t you take a nap, I know you didn’t sleep much last night. We’ve got another 2-hour drive ahead of us.” She finally says to him softly turning the music down a bit and rolling up the windows opting for the ac.
Of course, she noticed, it wasn’t a big secret that he had been spiralling out of control. He wasn’t sleeping or eating well, his mind obsessing over Codex. But now there was nothing but a jumbled mess of things and just pure grief and exhaustion left behind in the aftermath. Strangely enough, he actually felt ok enough to take her up on the offer, she made him feel safe. Knowing she was going to be here when he opened his eyes brought a feeling of comfort and peace he was struggling to have, it was like the darkness couldn’t get to him. “Yeah ok.”
He drifted and for the first time in a long time found sleep came quickly and a dreamless sleep took him over. No nightmares, just soft hum engulfed him. It was when he felt warm fingers on his cheek brushing back some hair did he open his eyes and came face to face with Riley’s hazel eyes and full lips. He blinked a few times to adjust to the light. “Hey,” she said softly.
“Hey, are we here already?” He asked sitting up, it didn’t escape his mind that he didn’t mind that Riley was the first thing he saw when he opened his eyes, it never did but he filed it away with any other thoughts that ever came into his mind about her that seemed more than friendly behaviour.
She stepped away from him and cleared her throat and nodded, “yea, we’re here. I’m glad you got some sleep” she smiled again. She was entranced with watching him sleep, she almost didn’t want to wake him, he was beautiful, soft and so vulnerable in this moment. She knew how much he was struggling, which made her predicament even more complicated. How could she tell him she would be moving out? Instead, her brilliant idea was to steal him away for a few days. She was playing with fire, but she also knew that as strong as he was, any more change might send him over the edge. She decided she’ll tell him about her move after this trip, but her priority will always be to protect him, her heart can deal with it.
His own faced turned up, “yeah I guess I needed it, and who knew what I needed was you humming off-key to songs in the background to fall asleep.” She swallowed and told her heart to stop its stupid summersaults.
“I’ll make you some tracks and make sure they’re extra off-key! I’ll be your white noise” she said quickly teasing back.
“My very own ghost.” his eyes crinkling in the corners. This was the most she’s seen him smile in a while.
Rolling her eyes and doing a mock laugh “careful or I will haunt your ass for real” to which she got full dimples, this was going to be four long days.
“Ok so I got us a house actually” she cheekily said pointing at the well-maintained terra cotta colored house they were parked in front of on top of a hill surrounded by sky and desert landscapes with cacti and boulders, the house faced the road below that brought them into town. The front porch had a couple of lounge chairs, a table for four, a couple of lanterns neatly hung around the arches and a small pathway that led to a circular covering what he deduced was the hot tub. There were shrubs and succulents neatly planted around the house giving some green to the otherwise very warm hue of the area.
Mac looked around and already his head felt lighter under the sky that just seemed bluer here, probably because the air pollution was nonexistent here. He sheepishly said, “I kinda thought we’d be camping,” rubbing the back of his neck, “but the house looks nice.”
“Listen, we can camp I bought everything, but we can also stay in this awesome house with a hot tub, pool, and functioning toilets and showers.” she shrugged tucking her hands into the back pockets of her shorts. “What can I say, I’m a city gal and honestly we do ‘camp’ a lot for work.”
He shook his head lightly, “yeah I guess you got a point there,” thinking of all of the times they did camp out without any real equipments. “You thought of everything huh?” He asked softly taking her in fully. “Thanks, Riles.” watching her smile and nod made his heart feel warm, a feeling he’s been missing for a while.
As if on cue Bozer pulled up behind them. Riley’s smiled widen. Mac turned towards the car and he thought he was seeing a ghost. Then he heard the familiar sound of a Texan drawl. He turned to Riley wide-eyed and then back at where Bozer stepped out of the car with a shit-eating grin and next to him was none other than Jack Dalton.
“How’s it going hoss!” He waved with a laugh as he approached Mac and took his hand and pulled him into a hug.
“Jack! Man, it’s so good to see you.” Mac said hugging the older man hard, he felt his eyes water just a bit.
Jack pat his back and pulled away smiling, “it’s good to see you too, kid.”
“Yeah, the OG gang is back together” Bozer claimed jumping with excitement.
Jack turned to Riley and embraced her, “Hey baby girl!” Pulling her off the ground as she shrieked with laughter. Riley held onto Jack for a moment longer before releasing him and smiling, she didn’t hide the tears that were softly rolling down her face now.
“I’m so glad to have you back.” She said softly. Jack brushed away tears from her cheek and nodded.
“Me too.” he turned to look at his crew and smiled at the kids that somehow came to mean the world to him. “So we ready for this crazy weekend or what?!” his arm still around Riley.
“Hell yeah!” exclaimed Bozer already heading to the trunk of his car to grab his and Jack’s bags.
Mac just stood dumbfounded for a second taking in the 3 most important people in his life and finally feeling something, he’s been so scared that something in him was shifting but seeing them here smiling at him brought back the warmth he felt has been slowly seeping away. “Thank you, guys.”
“Come on man, we’re family,” Bozer said squeezing his shoulder.
“You always got us,” Jack added a giant grin. “Alright now, let’s get settled and decide what we’re doing. I’m craving a cold one for sure!” He said picking up his bag.
Riley on cue walked over to the door and pressed in the security code into the door handle and opened up the door. “Welcome to the digs boys, we’ve got the living room” pointing to the right, “the master bedroom just past there as well as the second bedroom. Just ahead is the dining room and kitchen, around the hall to the left we have the other two bedrooms and bathroom. Laundry room and back porch with the grill AND pool. You saw the fire pit and hot tub in the front of the house.” she said sweeping both her arms around the house that was meant to be their home for the next four days.
“Damn Riley! You did good!” Bozer said as he scanned the house, decorated with a mix of modern and country house feel. Walking over to the kitchen he hummed in approval, “I can work with this! I’m gonna grab the groceries!” he bounced back out the door.
Jack gave a whistle of approval, “man, after the places I’ve been sleeping in, I’m gonna sleep like a baby!” as he went around ducking into rooms and giving his approval.
Mac didn’t care much about the house but did agree it was a nice one with all the comforts of home.
Riley suddenly stood in front of him and gave him a warning “Macgyver don’t use any part of this house, I would like to get my deposit back.” He laughed holding up both hands in agreement.
Jack turned the attention back to the group, “ok kids whose taking what room?”
“Riley should have the master,” Mac said right away. Jack did jokingly protest that he’s the one who’s been sleeping on rubbles and jungle floors. Bozer bounced into one of the bedrooms to the right, jack decided to take the bedroom next to Bozer. Which left him and Riley to the right side of the house. “Masters all yours.”
She smiled, “umm you sure you don’t want it?” to which he shook his head, all of the bedrooms where sizeable with queen beds and dressers, it honestly didn’t matter and being the only girl they didn’t mind giving her the room with space and vanity table so she can paint her face as jack put it to which she rolled her eyes. “So there is the bathroom down the hall next to the other bedrooms but one here on our side the bathroom is actually in the master, so feel free to use it if you need it. The shower in there looks amazing!” She said nervously.
He smiled “yea ok.” He helped her unpack the car and bring her bag into her bedroom. He looked around “maybe I should take this room,” which earned him a light shove at his shoulder and he chuckled.
“Too late it’s mine now. Ok! So I say we get changed grab some lunch and chill for a bit while we plan the next few days.” She laid out the plans looking up at him both hands on her hips and she stretched forward towards him. That familiar hammering came back in her chest, the next thing she knows he’s embracing her. “Mac…”
He just needed to be close to her just for a second, releasing her from the embrace he softly said, “I just...I know I said thank you, but really, thank you.”
She held onto his biceps and squeezed them, ignoring the way that made her feel she just smiled at him “hey what are friends for if not to kinda kidnap you for a mini-vacation.” He laughed and she decided that was her favorite sound. Letting her hands fall to her side, “go get settled, I’m sure Boz will make us something to eat, I’m starving.”
He smiled once more and left her standing in the middle of her room feeling so many things. The next four days were going to be the hardest four days of her life she reminded herself again. She survived two years in prison, she’ll be fine, she hoped. Taking a deep breath she walked into the kitchen where she could already hear Jack and Bozer.
Bozer was laying out sandwich meats and cheese he had picked up while swatting Jack’s hands away from stealing slices of the cold cuts. She felt a bit emotional seeing them goofing around, something about Jack being home made her feel like everything was going to be ok, that Mac would be ok and she would have the strength to get over what was currently happening to her in regards to Mac.
“Some things never change.” She heard Mac say softly now changed into a pair of trousers t-shirt and button-down. “Thanks for the clothes you picked out, I don’t think I could have picked better.”
Again she felt her face warm, what the hell was wrong with her. She couldn’t recall a time that she felt this affected. Usually, with guys she had found attractive, it was always coyness and subtle flirting but never did something so simple trigger this kind of response. She chalked it up to the heat even though the state of the art thermostat read a cool 70°. “Yea, of course, you’re welcome. And I’m glad that some things don’t change.”
Mac looked down at her, he agreed but maybe some things changing wouldn’t be too bad. Pulling up the chair at the kitchen island, they took the beers Jack handed them one by one raising his bottle “it’s good to be home, cheer!” They all clinked the bottles together and shouted cheers. Jack took a long swig off his beer, “Damn that’s good.”
Mac couldn’t help but feel like he was transported back to a couple of years ago when things were simple and good. They saved lives and had fun. Everything seemed so much heavier and complicated these days. But right now at this moment, he felt the most present he’s felt in a year.
“What are we having Boz, I’m starving!” Riley whined softly.
“Girl I got you covered. I’m making a medley of sandwiches, you got a Cuban, prosciutto and mozzarella with balsamic vinegar and basil, and a BLT coming at you with my homemade mayo,” he said already working on prepping the bread with condiments.
“Damn Bozer, have I missed your cooking!” said Jack with an excited glint in his eyes.
“So I was thinking we take it easy for today don’t know about you guys but I could take a dip in that pool, we’ll start early morning for the hikes, if we want to camp tomorrow night we can, day 3 and 4 are open for whatever you guys want to do. We need to be back in LA by noon on monday.” Riley laid out the plans.
“Pool party, I’m in,” Jack said nodded seriously.
“Me too! I can’t remember the last time I just had a day to do whatever I wanted.” Bozer said thoughtfully while working on their lunch.
“Yea, it’s been a lot going on hasn’t it.” He said picking at the beer bottle label. The room fell into silence for a moment, each reviewing the events of the past year if not longer. They lost so much as a collective but Mac and the most.
Jack took another sip finishing off his beer and shook his head, “Nah, we’re here to have fun, let’s focus on that.” grabbing one of the pickles that Boze laid out, Bozer gave him a side-eye but said nothing. “This weekend we’re gonna unwind and be thankful for this beautifully weird place. Nothing is blowing up, no one is shooting at us, the worst thing will be the hangovers and food comas,”
Riley and Bozer both collectively knocked on the wood of the kitchen island, “don’t jinx it!”
To which Mac proceeded to explain that ‘jinx’ wasn’t a scientifically proven, and went into a ramble about logic. It wasn’t until he noticed all three of his friends smiling affectionately at him that he stopped dropped him head mouth curving into a smile. He knocked on the wood too just in case.
                                                         II
Twenty minutes later Bozer served them his masterpieces as he called them, and they all agreed that they were works of art. Jack had caught them up as much as he could on his mission with the deltas and catching Kovac, leaving the classified information out. It seems so natural that they wouldn’t give details, that they understood that somethings they could never talk about again.
Finishing off his third sandwich Jack stood to plug his phone to charge “can you believe this phone lasted me almost 2 years?!”
To which Mac rolled his eyes but his mouth still twitched upwards. “I can’t help that a phone has key components for most builds.”
“Yeah you left and it became either me or Riley. I feel like it was mostly me though.” Bozer said pouting.
“Appreciate you picking up the slack, I already upgraded my insurance just in case.” Jack pointed at Mac. To which Boze and Riley hollered.
Mac held up his hand and shook his head, “hey man I promise if I don’t need it, I won’t ask for it.”
“Alright, Alright let’s get to the pool!” Jack said already pulling his shirt over his head. “Riley throw on some tunes, preferably something country or rock or close to my generation that we can all enjoy.”
It was Riley’s turn to roll her eyes, “don’t worry old man, I got us all covered. A bit of Brooks and Dunn, a bit of Ozzy,  a bit of Technotronic, a little Beyonce, and of course Drake for Bozer.”
Mac’s face squinted into lines. “Wait is Techtronic for me? Or is Beyonce for me?”
She laughed, “guess you’ll just have to find out, though I do recall you know the lyrics to at least one of Techtronic’s’ song.” her own eyes squinting to tease him. “Alright, I’m gonna go change, be right back.”
“Yeah ok fair enough, but only cause it was on the radio…saved your booty,” she heard him mumble as she passed him patting his shoulder.
The guys were already set up by the pool when she walked out. Bozer managed to find a pool floaty from where they didn’t know and mildly suspected he might have packed the one that he was currently laying on and enjoying the sun. Mac and Jack sat next to each other with their feet in the water.
“I’m sorry about your old man.” Jack finally said softly.
Mac’s lips pulled into a line before he sighed and looked down at the beer bottle in his hand “yea, as it turns out its hard to be mad at a guy that always chose the utilitarian method. He sacrificed himself, I wish I could just be sad or just angry but how I feel is just…” he didn’t know himself.
“Hey man, I get it. I know what it’s like to lose a father. No matter who and how he was as a person, he was still your dad.” Jack said placing a hand on Mac’s shoulder and giving a light squeeze. “But you know I‘m here if you gotta sort through all the jumbled mess in your head. I’ll be your sounding board.”
“Thanks, I appreciate that” He did appreciate it, but he wasn’t sure if he wanted to, let alone where to start to untangle the mess that his life became. He was brought out of his brooding when Bozer whistled loudly.
“Damnnnnn Riley!” to which Jack knocked him off his floaty, when he resurfaced drawing water away from his face he whined, “I was just paying her the compliment she deserves!”
Mac knew that Riley had an amazing body, her tight jeans and crop tops proved this countless time if not by the countless gowns and tight dresses she had to wear for ops, but they’d never seen her in a bikini in the four years of working together. He swallowed hard and pretended not to stare, but it was hard when she was all bronze and glowing, toned abs and round hips, her smile radiant even if her eyes held a teasing annoyance at the attention. It suddenly felt hotter than 89°.
Jack knew better than to tell her to cover up, and he knew that he could trust these guys but still, he pouted about her lack of clothing. “Jack, what do you want me to wear to the pool, a potato sack?”
“No, but...never mind!” he just mumbled.
She shook her head, but she was trying to distract herself from the fact that Mac had looked at her hard, their eyes locked for a second and she could’ve sworn she saw something there, the way his adam’s apple bobbed make her skin tingle. She decided that she’d read it as a compliment.
The rest of the afternoon passed with a game of pool volleyball, naps here and there or reading, Riley’s playlist playing in the background. Memories being solidified to sounds, smells, and feelings. She chided them to apply sunscreen and even offered to help with their backs.
“Riley not sure if you’re aware but I’m black,” Bozer said to her proudly.
“So? Black people burn too and are you trying to get cancer?” She asked with a raised eyebrow.
Deflated he shook his head no and sat down. One by the one they gave up the protests as she threw savage shade at them. She applied a boatload of sunscreen just cause they gave her a hard time and decided to snap some pictures as well for blackmail of course.
Mac was last and sat in front of her as she steeled herself and slowly applied the sunscreen to the back of his neck, the hair at his nape tickling her fingers. She worked quickly and ran her fingers between his shoulder blades down his back. She felt him tense and worked faster. As much as she enjoyed being able to touch him like this, it was also inappropriate. He didn’t know about her feelings, and she felt sleazy as if she were taking advantage of a friend. Closing the bottle cap shut, she lightly tapped his shoulders, “done, now you don’t have to be an embarrassing lobster.” She weakly cracked.
He wasn’t new to attraction, or the body’s response to the said attraction. He didn’t expect to be so affected by her fingers running down his back, her nails making a slow trail that left him imagining those nails digging into his back for a completely different reason. He cleared his throat, “thanks, wouldn’t want that.”  he managed as he looked over his shoulder. Fuck him, she was adorable as she chewed her bottom lip and nodded. Ok, maybe four days of this Riley was going to be a challenge.
                                                        II
Around later afternoon everyone decides to shower and get ready for the evening, agreeing to head into town and grabbing dinner there. They decided with the drinks they’ve had best to grab an Uber into town. The awkwardness of the poolside sunscreen still fresh as they piled into the car. It was a short ride but felt long as Riley sat squeezed between Mac and Bozer. Bozer just grinned, of course, him knowing her feeling about Mac was going to be her downfall. When they were dropped off, She felt like she had been holding her breath for hours.
“You ok?” Mac asked her to which she nodded.
“Yep, just need a drink!” His brows raised and he seconded that feeling because he definitely could use one.
Walking around the old Pioneer town setup, Mac explained different tools and contraptions that were displayed around the old buildings from the 1800s, Jack dazzled them with stories about Texas that either made no sense or was inaccurate according to Mac, Bozer, and goggle. They decided to have dinner at Pappy and Harriet’s Pioneertown Palace, where the smell of barbecue wafted through the warm evening air, They could hear the bustle of music and glasses clinking. Bozer was already rushing in to get them a table saying something about getting his hands on some ribs. Jack hollered that he has to see if this place is as good as Texas barbecue.
Mac looked down at Riley as her eyes sparkled with excitement the earlier awkwardness finally forgotten. Even though they’ve been everywhere in the world, this place had her vibrating. “I never knew you were a fan of the country life.”
She laughed, “I don’t know, I didn’t think that I was either, but there is something about this place that just, I dunno gets me kinda hyped.”
“Hey, guys they have a table for us!” Bozer shouted over the live music and chatter. Apparently they came on open mic night and the local dentist was doing this rendition of Hank Williams’ “all my rowdy friends” and killing it. The energy was just infectious.
They sat down as Bozer rubbed his hands together, “I already know this is gonna be the bomb. I mean can you smell that hickory?!”
“Hell yea I can!” Jack chimed in.
Mac smiled at his best friends, Bozer and Jack were always bouncing off each other in any room the three of them were in, but since Riley came into the picture they’re better behaved. They listen to song after song and the cheers of the crowd as they ate. Jack approved and hummed in appreciation.
“I’ve missed this, the good ole USA, bbq, and country blues.”
“Every song is about beer, a truck, a woman, but man is it catchy” Bozer stood busting out his moves as he called it.
“Jack, it makes sense you should feel right at home at this place.” She said with eyes twinkling.
Mac took a swig of his beer and chuckled, “This whole place is Jack if he were a bar, maybe throw in some Black Sabbath and ACDC in and you have Jack.”
Jack grinned and nodded, “ok, ok, you’re not wrong. I’m totally digging this place.” His eyes finding the eyes of a pretty blonde at the bar.
“Classic...” She agreed, crinkling her nose up in that adorable way when she found something slightly distasteful, thought Mac. For a moment they took the time to acknowledge the man who became a father to them both with affection. If they ever have to thank someone for their sincerity they could claim Jack as one of the big influencers. They’re musing was broken by Bozer shouting,
“Guys come on lets dance, how often do we get to do this anymore?” Bozer ushered them onto the dance floor. He already found himself a couple of dance partners. Ph.D. in partying Bozer was out tonight.
It was true, they didn’t do these things anymore. Things haven’t been the same for a while. It’s only been about a year and yet he felt like his whole world shifted. An avalanche of shit hit him.
“You don’t have to tell me twice,” Jack jumped up and was already making a beeline for the woman at the bar. They could hear a vague “how you doing?”
Mac and Riley just rolled their eyes and joined Bozer on the dance floor as the new performer of the night decided to sing Shania Twain “Man, I Feel like a woman.” As soon as they joined Bozer, of course, within minutes Riley was stolen away for a dance. Mac was happy to watch her, the joy finally reaching her eyes today. Maybe they all needed this, a moment to stop and appreciate their lives.
He liked seeing her like this, Riley was always fun to be around. But right now she was everything he thought to himself, everything about her made his heart feel full. Finishing his beer off, he decided that he wanted to be the one to dance with his friend. The more he played with the word, somehow it didn’t seem enough anymore to call her that.
“Can I steal her for this dance?” he asked not really waiting for an answer already pulling her close to him. “You good?” looking to make sure he wasn’t misreading the situation.
She looked up at him and nodded, “yeah, I’m good.” looking down at their joined hands, it was this hand-holding that started the thud in her chest in Germany, and here it was hammering away. She was so screwed. There was a part of her mind that asked her, why not? He’s not attached anymore, so why not? But she knew better, he didn’t need this right now. He didn’t need her feelings to complicate his life. Lost in her thoughts or the blues of his eyes she wasn’t sure which, she didn’t realize the music was changing as the next performer took stage and cheers were heard.
The music changed to a slower one, something about it just seemed fitting and he’d watched her dance all night with other people but now it was his turn. He stepped up closer to her, her eyes on him as he took her hand and swayed with her. She laughed softly as they danced to a soft country song about a man who wanted to be a girl’s everything. How ironic.
“If you wanna be with a guy who's gonna bring you flowers A guy who's gonna talk on your phone for hours A guy who's gonna wanna hold the door for you When you wanna walkthrough A guy who's gonna pick you up A guy who's gonna take you out and make you Wanna get a little dressed up and get a little down”
She once told him that she wouldn’t mind a small town, the quiet, after all things they saw daily. He wondered if secretly she wanted to be one of those ‘girl next door’ country girl. He felt her warmth through the shirt she wore, his finger brushing the soft exposed skin of her midriff. It was like an electrical current ran through him, which was of course plausible and probably didn’t mean anything.
“I wanna be the guy with the roses Number on speed dial, ladies first, don't you know that's my style Hop into my truck I got plans We’ll head on down to Jimmy's and we'll do a little dance There's a lot of things in a small town a guy can be But if its by your side for the rest of my life Baby, you can call me, a wannabe (a wannabe) Be be a wannabe (a wannabe) (a wannabe) Be Be”
She knew how dangerous this was getting, but she couldn’t help herself just for this one song. Couldn’t help giggling when he spun her around and pulled her close. Couldn’t help but let her stupid heart thud at his deep laughter. Where she could touch him for a little while without question, without worry. She can feel the hair at the nape of his neck as she wrapped her arms around him because they were just dancing. This stolen moment getting filed away as one of the best nights she’s had to date.
“If you wanna be with a guy whose gonna give you The whole world from the back of a dirt road farm Scribbled in ink with a big heart a tattoo on my arm I'm talkin' kissin' like crazy, can't shut it down Can't you see how I wanna be the guy that you’re out with Arm that's your names on”
With every sway, he felt like he was taking a step towards where he should be. The person he should be and wanted to be. The doubt that has been clouding over him slowly clearing a little. He felt like he could finally see the light shining through. If someone like Riley could stand next to him as the world ended then life couldn’t possibly be that bad, right? So for now at this moment, he pulls her closer, lets her scent make him dizzy. Lets his hand splay across the small of her back to let each finger feel her.
“Be the lips baby that you wanna put your lips on All-day, all night, moonshine, sunrise, your favorite song There's a lot of things in a small town a guy can be But if it’s by your side for the rest of my life, baby you can call me A wannabe (a wannabe) (a wannabe) Be be a wannabe (a wannabe) Be Be”
There is a cheer from the crowd and she laughs “This song is fucking catchy,” She says as he dips her, the audible gasp vibrating through her to him. He decided then that he loved dancing with Riley. He loved her laughs, the way her whole face lit up.
“I wanna be the guy you make a life with, picket white fence with Maybe a little later hell even make a baby with Just you and me livin' that life long dream There's a lot of things in a small town a guy can be But if it’s by your side for the rest of my life”
He placed his forehead against hers and held her close. She glances up at him and his eyes hold hers. She’s mystified by their intensity, her body on fire from his breath fanning across her face. They were so close, he could kiss. He wanted to kiss her. As they got lost in each other, they failed to see the silly smile on Bozer’s face as he watched them or Jack who also softly chuckled from where he got distracted from wooing his lady friend Carla. If he was being honest, he can’t believe it took this long for them to get to this point. Well, he supposed he’ll have to have a chat with Mac about what he can expect if he hurts his little girl. Turning back to Carla he spared them one last glance then he was all Dalton, Jack Dalton.
“Baby you can call me, a wannabe (a wannabe) (a wannabe) Be be You can call me your wannabe (a wannabe) Be Be A wannabe (a wannabe) (a wannabe) Be Be”
The crowd clapped cheered and whistled around them, he held her eyes still in a trance. Something definitely shifted between them. She cleared her throat and let him go smiling. “Thanks for the dance. That was so much fun.” Turning to make her way through the crowd to their table where a fresh bottle of beer was waiting for them courtesy of Bozer she assumed. She didn’t wait to see if he was following.
The heat from the dance coming off her now as if she had a full HIIT workout. She took a sip of the beer and before she could swallow it, he was standing next to her.
“Riley…”
She gulped down the beer and looked at him, she was so fucked.

wuthering heights or stormlight archive? granada or fgo holmes? tamino or fiona apple?
The SOUNDDDDDD the ongoing SOUNDDDDD of delight and disbelief... I just let out... you know me 🥺🤲🏽 and so expertly used that to hit me right where it was bound to hurt 👊🏽😔 I’m in absolute awe bestie bravo 🤭👏🏽😳💓💝
Ok for WH vs Stormlight: STORMLIGHT!!!!! First of all more content, second of all its ongoing and looking forward to consuming future installments makes life more bearable! At this point in time, we’re only 4 (main) books deep, and it’s projected to be 10! 👀 and then each book has year long gaps between it and the rest and is 1000+ pages apiece, and Sanderson keeps coming up w/ unplanned novellas... like even if The Stormlight Archive were not attached to the greater Cosmere, it is so deliciously vast!! 🍴 Endlessly entertaining in comparison to Wuthering Heights, which I love for very different reasons. Sometimes I think abt how old I’ll be when Stormlight ends and I’m like @_@ insane and dizzying to think about how long it’ll be part of my life... how I will grow and regress as it gets incrementally more and more complete and complex...... 😖!!
Also! It’s fantasy, and not only that but high fantasy, which is probably the first genre I ever fell in love with. That’s partly why the art ppl make for this series is more vibrant and a bit more abundant, I think, (at least when you’re casually scrolling the internet) and Stormlight has a lot more sentimental value attached to it for me than Wuthering Heights does, since it was rec’d to me by a friend and the character development + depictions of mental health in this series has rlly gotten to me at several points... and will probably continue to do so for the indefinite future whsjwnw not to mention how Sanderson established that these characters are indeed of color! And that Kaladin could/would totally look desi! Likeeee I am weak and predictable that means a crazy amount to me (both Stormlight and Wuthering Heights are written by white ppl, and that the fact that some if not all the characters in them are of color is, for various reasons, misunderstood or overlooked by readers is one of the most vexing and unfortunate things abt both books/conversations surrounding them, so it’s very fitting that u pitted them together tbh! 👀)
The Holmes q... you are soooo evil I love u! THIS IS SO... My two favorite Holmeses and ur making me choose... 🥺🤭😖💔🤕 !! gonna say FGO Holmes because he was what kickstarted my interest in Holmes related anything-at-all and I enjoy how he’s true to canon in the best ways, like his priorities and mischief and personality, but his role in the story of FGO and the setting of FGO are more thrilling and creative than his role in and the setting of Doyle’s original stories! I have more bones to pick w/ canon Holmes than FGO Holmes, which means I have more bones to pick with Granada, since it’s such an overall faithful adaptation. Also sometimes I get paranoid abt coming off as an angl*phile or smth for being such a fan of Holmes (😑) but as I’ve said a few times before, no part of British history holds anyyy special charm for me, and I think it’s very unfortunate sometimes how people romanticize the settings of British classics! Like I’m also not one of those ppl who’s obsessed w the concept of a “Victorian dandy,” or whatever... that the anime character I’ve taken such a strong unshakeable shine to is based off of one is incidental 😭😔 !! (It influences some of his more endearing or funny behavior and mannerisms but it’s not like. Integral to his character that he is one imo) This is my long winded way of saying that the way FGO plays fast and loose w/ ACD canon is right up my alley and makes it easier to express appreciation for Holmes as a character without accidentally sounding like I’m also fawning over the settings + aesthetics + symbols he was originally attached to and meant to stand for that I find insufferable. Jeremy Brett did an incredible job but... FGO Holmes is my flexible, spindly 2D doll and I’d love him just as much even w/o the existence of ACD canon, while a large part of Granada’s charm is how good of an adaptation it is (although it stands wonderfully on its own too)
THIS TAMINO VS APPLE Q... the way every prompt gets eviler... crying and screaming !!! The Universal Diabolical Genius strikes again!! 😠🥺🤫
Oh my god Tamino’s voice is so haunting and I adore how he works with The Firka (an orchestra of mostly Iraqi and Syrian refugees) + in so doing deliberately draws on musical traditions from his cultures to enhance his music... but Fiona Apple’s lyrics are truly so genius and charming.... and the ENERGY!! In general I prefer when music excites rather than soothes me, which is not mutually exclusive ofc, but Tamino is what I listen to when I want to feel out of touch, as a treat, and Fiona Apple is... god I can’t even explain it, it’s almost never the wrong time for Apple. Between the two, ideally I’d just choose death? Like these are legit my all time favorite 2 artists but I am at metaphorical gunpoint here and trying not to be a spoilsport so I will say....
😐
Fiona Apple 😔 her discography is currently much larger!! And I listen to her more nowadays 😖 forgive me Tamino 💔

X62
X62 (Ten-Sixty Two) is a pop/soul duo from Edmonton, Alberta. Think of that thrilling and terrifying period of time when you’ve fallen for someone, but don't yet know if they feel the same. Their new single, 'Hopelessly Hoping,' is about "those nights spent laying awake in bed picturing life with this person, desperately hoping they feel the same, knowing full well you can’t force someone else’s emotions. To turn it into a duet, we created a story where both people feel the connection, but neither is bold enough to let the other know. Mutually wondering if it's a hopeless endeavour or something greater. The song ends and we still don’t actually have an answer. We'd like to think that it ends happily and they both figure it out." There is always something special about women coming together to create! If something or someone is not actually adding to your life then it has got to go! I want you to assess your own circles to make sure that there is no one in your life who is sapping your energy." Listen below.

Violet Hull
Violet Hull is a 20 year old singer songwriter of Thai and American descent currently developing her craft in Sydney, Australia. 'Buy This' is her debut single and is self-written, recorded and produced.  "It unleashes a lot of feelings I have about the world right now– the pleasures and pressures," explains Violet. "When will our selfishness eat us up? Will we make it out or sell ourselves into the ground? Creative sampling and satire taps into poignant realities about consumerism, narcissism, and social media. Though spacious, the song crescendos like the feelings of crisis that are palpable at the moment." It was first released with a stop-motion music video (created with conceptual artist and painter Kaye Mahoney) on youtube and IGTV. "'Buy This' doesn't just allude to consumerism, but the self-centred ideologies thrust upon us in a world that supported Trump's rise to US President," she continues. "I would love more people to be able to hear its message." Listen below.

Tekla Waterfield
Trouble In Time marks a first for husband and wife collaborators, award-winning Seattle based singer-songwriter Tekla Waterfield and multi-instrumentalist and producer, Jeff Fielder. Their two aesthetics have found maturity, meshing together to produce sensual, ephemeral songs nestled in lush beds of laid-back and stripped down grooves. Most of the album’s nine songs were written in 2020, in response to the heavy and anxiety-filled events taking place around the world. Despite the heavy subject matter, there is a resounding takeaway of hope for a brighter tomorrow in this collection of beautiful and haunting songs. Trouble in Time is out January 8. Stream the title track below.

After graduating  from the University if Illinois at Urbana-Chapaign on a full athletic scholarship, she moved back home to Toronto and began releasing music  featuring her indie folk style with R&B-pop production. "My new song, 'Falling,' is about that uncontrollable feeling when you first start liking someone, but not finding the words to tell that person how you feel," says Jade. "The more time you spend with that person, the more you realize how beautiful they truly are. Writing this song was my way of expressing that." Listen below.

About Me:
I'm Sarah. I'm 17 and currently stuck in the teen-almost adult stage right now. I'm from India, I was born in the beautiful state of Kerala aka God's Own Country and now I'm currently in Mumbai for my studies. I'm a pre-med student who's gonna be writing her medical entrance exam next year, looking forward to a career in the medical field where I could dedicate myself into helping people, both physically and emotionally which I've always wished to. I'm a Cat lady who loves cats so much. And also my guilty pleasure is to watch endless episodes of F.R.I.E.N.D.S. I love to write, I'm an old-fashioned girl who still writes in her journals/diaries about my life. Also did I mention I love reading books, a good book is my best friend. I have a thing for 7 just like Taylor has for 13. I'm a Christian and I deeply believe that he can mould me into a tool which he can use to heal people and bring them closer to God.
My Era :
I became a fan in the Debut Era and became a Swiftie later in the End of Debut Era and Start of Fearless Era.
So in 2006 I was 4 years old when I got introduced to Taylor, yes, I was so young. My parents used to go to work so my grandparents were there to take care of me, it's a daily routine for them to listen to local radio to hear the news, it was so monotonous, I felt it so boring, so I changed the radio station, and the next moment I never changed it... Because I loved the sound of the guitar and the angelic voice which I was listening, later I came to know I was listening to Tim McGraw and when they announced her name, all I could grasp was Tay...So at a tender age, whatever I could grasp at that age, listening to the radio I drew pictures, like for Teardrops on my Guitar, I drew a guitar and drew tears like rain, the lyrics which had simple words I learnt the songs.. especially the chorus of A Place In This World, I'll still Remember singing it with my childish voice, I never understood a word but now this song still resonates with me.
And yes, I never saw Taylor because all I knew was her voice, I imagined her as a Angel and I always thought how she would be looking. But that didn't take long because one day my Grandma was switching channels on the TV and I kind of recognised her voice and I asked my grandma not to change the channel, that's the first time I saw her in a Lavender Dress looking like a Princess, yes, I saw you for the first time in Our Song, she was Everything that I imagined.. and that's the first time I read the name Taylor Swift, but the child-like me Screamed it's Tay not Taylor, that's when my grandma made me understand that her Name is Taylor and I call her Tay.. and I still do haha.
So yes, I listened to her songs on the Radio and watched the MVs on TV and one day on September 10, 2008 ( I remember that because of my scribbled papers) I decided to make Taylor my best friend, infact she are my first friend, because I was a lonely soul who never had friends and you were always there to comfort me, and I promised myself I'll stand by her forever and I'll love her so much because back then for a young 6 year old me, the relationship with a best friend was valued the most...and with that I became a Swiftie ...So that's when I became a Swiftie...
Tumblr media
The first ever album I've ever owned of Taylor and also me and Taylor twinning
Rep Era was the Era when I decided to stop hiding behind and watching everytime silently, and made my place as a Swiftie on Social Media. At first, I thought I would be left out and no one would care, but later I've made so many amazing friends. And, through Taylor I have found my best and real friends, who love me as who I am, I'm so blessed to be a part of this Swiftie Family and I wish to meet all of them for real one day.
Lover Era, ah the whole era is so special because as I said earlier, 7 is my lucky number and this is Taylor's 7th Album. Ever since Rep Tour ended I made myself believe that TS7 is my Era and Taylor will finally know that I exist. I got to know that on 16th July 2019, when Taylornation DMed me on Tumblr ( I'm still surprised because I've never understood how to use Tumblr, and I still keep wondering how did Taylor find Me among so many Swifties, I guess only Taylor knows) with a CONFIDENTIAL MESSAGE, and the feeling was just so magical. I was invited to Lover Secret Sessions in London and I felt that things were finally going to Change but due to many unfortunate circumstances, I couldn't go to London. I felt very sad and brokenhearted that day but I still believe that someday I'll meet Taylor and tell her everything in my heart and that moment would be just beautiful and perfect. Then on 14th October here, Taylor liked my post and she officially gave me my first ever Taylor Notice. Also I truly believe she officially recognised my name as "Miss INDIAna and The Desi Princess" and since then, life has never been the same.
Tumblr media
My First Ever Taylor Notice
Song that Inspired Me ( aka my Stan Song) :
So one day Change played on my TV and I loved it so much, and since I was 10, I could understand the lyrics and quite the past few years, it was strengthened me and made me so optimistic in life even if there were hard times and actually saved my life, when I thought to end it all because I was so hopeless, the last thing I did was play my playlist and Change was the first song that came in, and I cried my heart out, believed in every single word Tay sang, and I decided not to end my life and to live with optimism and confidence, Fearlessly no matter what. For me that's the song which saved my life and made me rethink about my decision of ending it all, it was like a new beginning of life for me..It means more than the world to me.
And yes, the day Taylor sang Change at Rep Tour Foxborough 27.07.18, I felt like she sang it for me, because ever since I have joined Tumblr I have been literally requesting her to sing Change, sending her messages (which I thought she'll never see) and you did...I DIED. I literally dreamed about you singing Change at Rep Tour Foxborough because Foxborough holds a special place in my heart because Fearless Tour Foxborough was the first tour I have ever attended Virtually.
My Concert Experience :
Well since Taylor has never come to India, I've never seen her perform for real, but I really hope Lover is the Era for us Indian Swifties and she does come to India so that me and my Indian Swiftie friends could see her for the first time and experience the magic and cherish the memories (fingers crossed)
Even though I've never attended a concert for real, I've been attending her Tours ever since Fearless Tour Foxborough, Virtually, because of my cousin who Skyped it for me to experience it... and I lived every single moment of the two hours and when it ended I cried... because it was her last Fearless Tour and my first... and that started my journey of attending tours virtually via Skype, YouTube and reading updates on my mom's Twitter, now it's my own Twitter, Tumblr and Instagram which still continues my virtual attendance for almost all of them since then.
Message To Taylor :
Thank you so much for just being YOU, thank you so much for everything you've given me so precious and beautiful...Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart, for the past 13 years and Forevermore. Thank you for believing in me when no one else did. Even in my worst times, you saw the best in me and helped me to believe in myself. Thank you for being the Angel who CHANGED my Life Completely.
Wishing your 30th year is full of love, happiness, growth, success, strength, comfort and a lot of beautiful moments, memories and precious bonds to Cherish. You inspire infinite people like me to change the world one small step at a time with Kindness and Love..I'm just so proud of you and your incredible achievements Tay and I'm so happy that you're better than you ever was. Have the best year ever. You make me believe in the dreams that are impossible and hopefully I could make them all come true. Hoping that one day you could follow me back here and share with you more about me and my life.
Thank you so much for being my best friend and believing in me. Thank you for letting me know that you know me after 13 years ( I never thought in my wildest dreams that you'll ever know that I exist, a girl only dreamed about it) and you wished to meet me, but hopefully one day we will and that would be just BEAUTIFUL and PERFECT. I had the time of my life fighting dragons with you. And I know these things will CHANGE and I feel it will happen with all my heart. You're my whole world and I hope you know that.
I love you so much Tay and I'll stand by you Forevermore. And most of all, thank you so much for being my best friend. I'm so blessed to have you in my life and I thank God for bringing this beautiful and loving Angel into my life.

A compilation of your favorite songs this semester: what experiences do they remind you of? when you like to listen to them?
A year in music
Aka freshman year was pretty wild.
Note: I’ve linked the music that I mention to start at around the time the quoted lyrics start playing but feel free to listen to the songs from the beginning!
Music. Whether you’re the kind of person that rarely listens or the kind that always has a soundtrack playing in your head, you can’t deny that music is sort of everywhere you go. I myself am not a very regular listener, but I can appreciate a good chorus or beat when I hear it. When I listen to music, I close my eyes and allow myself to be carried away by the poetry of the lyrics and pulled under by the hidden meanings of certain verses. When I listen to music, I envelop myself in a song like a caterpillar in a cocoon, and invariably attach a feeling, person, or life event to it. Particularly when I am at the highs and lows of the sine graph that is my life do I look to music to find some way to explain how I feel.
Tumblr media
Freshman year at MIT was one of the craziest sine curves I could have ever imagined; it was one of the most life-changing years of my life. I transformed so much that there were times I didn’t recognize the girl in the mirror. I morphed in such a way that sometimes others didn’t recognize me. I made a lot of mistakes. But I also grew up, became more experienced, found my identity, and blazed my own trail. This is my freshman year in music:
September – Phone by Mickey Singh Making new friends
I was in Aliza’s room. After a good venting session on my part and some delicious pudding, courtesy of her snack shelf, we each began to work on our own assignments and responsibilities, her at her desk, me sitting on her bed. She asked if she could play music, to which I agreed. There were awkward pauses in the flow of interaction between us, but it was endearing, as is typical on the path of new friendship. Everything was quite normal, until a song I didn’t recognize began to play. It was poppy; it was intriguing. And it was in a different language. ‘Do you want me to skip this’, she asked quickly. ‘My YouTube is on autoplay and it automatically played desi music’. As it stood in that moment, we were two people from unlike backgrounds who didn’t know that much about each other yet. I was an Arab from Florida, she, a Pakistani from New Jersey. I hesitated momentarily before I replied with ‘no, I like it’. And I did like it.
Little did I know that this would become a common soundtrack throughout my fall, a beat that reminded me of my first naïve but confident steps into independence. A beat that reminded me of true happiness and freedom. A beat that reminded me of my first, wonderful group of friends.
October – My Blood by Twenty One Pilots Making a home somewhere new
Homesickness. If you asked me in December, freshman fall was like heaven on earth. At least that’s how it felt like when it was ending. But near its beginning, I wasn’t totally happy. I missed home, my family, and my friends. Everyone I loved was together back in Florida, I was much further north. It was colder here, lonelier here. Sometimes I got impatient that I wasn’t good at conversation, that I somehow couldn’t make as many friends, that I couldn’t figure out my academics, that I just couldn’t do anything—as well as my peers could.
I just felt at a loss sometimes.
Stay with me, no, you don't need to run Stay with me, my blood, you don't need to run
(I may be biased because I went to a Twenty One Pilots concert at the end of October)
November – Still Feel by Half Alive Making it through
I was kind of killing it: getting psets done, practicing swimming (to pass the boat test), going to the gym. This was the beginning of what I guess I could call my sprint to the finish. I had my life together – for like the first two weeks anyway.
But then I was barely holding on. Psets were crammed hours before they were due, swimming turned into sinking, and things weren’t going too well. Then I found a medium place, where I was just making it. I was half alive, and I was okay with that.
I still feel alive When it is hopeless, I start to notice And I still feel alive Falling forward, back into orbit
That’s what November felt like.
December – Castle on the Hill by Ed Sheeran Made it
December was hugs farewell and tying loose ends. December was last assignments and final exams. December was crossing the finish line with a second to spare. December was the feeling of belonging somewhere. (And then shortly after, having to leave it)
I said goodbye to a good friend, Samar along with a few others as we drove her to the airport, Castle on the Hill playing in the background. I made a semester recap video to the same song, which brought back nostalgia for times I had only experienced a few weeks prior.
Found my heart and broke it here Made friends and lost them through the years And I've not seen the roaring fields in so long, I know I've grown But I can't wait to go home
And going home for winter break, my last view of MIT in 2018 was a room filled with people I really cared about, all playing the same game, eating pizza and laughing, all smiling and waving back at me.
Since when could you feel homesick for two places at once?
January –What You Know by Two Door Cinema Club Making a new path
I don’t remember much about January except that it was very cold and very dark. Over IAP, I was still surrounded by the warmth and light of friends who were here, and I was also taking more classes than humanly possible. This song reminds me of waking up on a lazy and dim IAP morning, looking at the gray sky and frosty-covered outside as it snowed, wrapped up in navy bedsheets.
February –100 Bad Days by AJR Making mistakes
A rough start to a semester. But it’s too early to give up isn’t it?
When all is going wrong and you're scared as hell What you gonna do? Who you gonna tell? Maybe a hundred bad days made a hundred good stories A hundred good stories make me interesting at parties
March – Connection by OneRepublic Making choices
Things are moving too fast, I’m changing too fast, there’s so much to do and so much to think about. I don’t know what I’m doing. I am an impostor.  I wish I could take a break. I need help. Who do I turn to? Why do I feel like such a burden?
Maybe I should try to find the old me Take me to the places and the people that know me Tryin’ to disconnect, thinking maybe you could show me If there’s so many people here, then why am I so lonely? Can I get a connection? Can I get, can I get a connection?
April – Viva La Vida by Coldplay Making progress
There was one very special Sunday in April. I made time with some others to go to Revere Beach. And to say it was a welcome distraction from the stress is an understatement. We were there for maybe a collective hour, but the entirety of the trip gave me a feeling of love I didn’t know I needed. Self love. Love of nature. Love from others. Love for others. Loving the small moments of bliss and joy that I can get in these busy times.
On our way there, we sat in the car singing along to the sound of nostalgia, laughing our responsibilities away, and putting our arms out the window to feel the wind on our skin: all to feel something again.
And once we were driving on a bridge we heard this:
I hear Jerusalem bells are ringing Roman Cavalry choirs are singing Be my mirror, my sword and shield My missionaries in a foreign field For some reason I can’t explain Once you go there was never, never a honest word And that was when I ruled the world
For a brief moment, we did rule the world. All of us in that car. That is what happiness feels like when you most need it.
May – Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol Breaking down
May was hugs farewell and tying loose ends. May was last-minute projects and final exams. May was crossing the finish line with two seconds to spare. May was loss, heartbreak, and unstoppable tears.
Aliza was killed by a drunk driver shortly after we all said goodbye to her for the summer. We didn’t realize how long we’d be saying goodbye for.
The night before she left MIT to go home we got late night from Maseeh dining and then, because of the beautiful weather, decided to sit on the sidewalk, right between Maseeh and McCormick. And we sat there for a wonderous half hour. I had a final the next morning, but the weather was too good, the company even better. We could see the remains of the full moon in our periphery. We didn’t know what would happen when the sun rose, but we focused on the cool breeze on our faces, the stars in our eyes. I never wanted to leave.
If I lay here If I just lay here Would you lie with me and just forget the world? Forget what we're told Before we get too old Show me a garden that's bursting into life
I am so lucky to have met her.
June (encore) – Good Grief by Bastille Making it through life, one step at a time
A summer in Boston that I put together very last minute, my life is slowly rebuilding. It’s a mess, but what life isn’t? I’m nervous to see the outcome, and I worry about tomorrow before I get through today. What can I do except try my best then hope it all works out?
Watching through my fingers, watching through my fingers In my thoughts you're far away And you are whistling the melody, whistling the melody Crystallizing clear as day Oh, I can picture you so easily, picture you so easily   What's gonna be left of the world if you're not in it? What's gonna be left of the world, oh   Every minute and every hour I miss you, I miss you, I miss you more Every stumble and each misfire I miss you, I miss you, I miss you more
(I still miss you)
Since my freshman year has ended, I haven’t really been able to slow down and reflect on everything that has happened. Until I sat in front of my computer to write this.
From where I stand now, I know things will get better again. Then they will inevitably get worse. It’s kind of how sine graphs flow. But I am the producer of my own track, I am the composer of my life symphony. There are three more years of new people to meet, interesting classes to take, difficult problems to face, and melodies for me to piece together. And once it’s all over, I can’t wait to take a look at what has been created. Once it’s all over, I can’t wait to press play.

hiiiiii lovee!! (so sorry for the late reply again, my day yesterday turned out busier than i expected)
i hope you had a lovely valentine's day yesterday 💕💕💕💕💕
ok so im already done with uni so no longer studying, i am working though! (🤭🤭🤭 i love that you're soppy & love cliches!!!) (and just in case hehe by football i mean soccer? not american football but if you did think it was football/soccer then ignore this ;P)🤭🤭 im sure your voice is very beautifully, but i love that saying "anything that's worth doing is worth doing badly!!" also looked up on google translate what you had put in french (and yes i know google translate is not the most realible translating thing buuuut) im 🥺🥺🤭🤭🤭🥰🥰🥰🥰 OH ID LOVE TO GO DANCING !!!
oh iris by the goo goo dolls is such an amazing song!!!! and the description you put as why you love it 🥺🥺🥺 *giving you the biggest hug* and oh my god she used to be mine , literally love that song !!! (it's from the musical the waitress) and also another very beautiful song!!! i actually saw a small production of the waitress and may or may have not teared up in that song 🥺🥺🥺 (it's a strange feeling missing a past version of yourself, not your normal nostalgic feeling but yeah all your past selves will always be with you like you said and that's just bittersweet) and i kid you not, i also stumbled upon i know a place by muna and instantly fell in love with it (i even added it to my current faves of 2021 playlist) it's truly such a good song !!!! i love all how the songs you choose all have similar meaning/lyrics but all different in their own ways ❣ (i hope one day you can be with someone or have a place to be able to escape with/to and be able to just be you all the time with no fears) ok so i did not know we had such similar taste in music (!!!) cause i also love the otherside by cam (i listened to it constantly when it came out!!) but yes omg it's such a nostalgic album, filled with sadness but hope as well!! (also im sorry about your uni friends and you drifting apart 😔 it's always so hard losing friends) changes is such a beautiful song and harrys whistles im just 🥺🥺 and yeess like a movie sooo good!! my favorite is forgetting you, it's sooo good and sad and i just 🥺🥺 (also idk if you knew but mitch, like harrys mitch, helped write forgetting you) also big fan of till there's nothing left! NOBODY IS LISTENING IS A MASTERPIECE!! i love that album, river road + tightrope are my favorite i think (and no im not desi sorry about that🤭🤭) oh i haven't listened to sam fender before but will most definitely listen to this album!!! my god sam smith is sooo amazing !!!!! (i saw them live in 2019 and it was the best thing ever!!) and yes lay me down just !!!!!!! so freaking good 🥺🥺🥺 and lorde !!!! she's one of my favorite singers !!!! melodrama is one of my all time favorite albums and supercut one of my all time favorite songs 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺 liability just tears me apart and ribs !!!!!! also another song that i love oh so much (also the lourve!!!!!) and yes hozier is an absolute legend, i haven't listened to too many of his songs but i have cherry wine, like real people do and someone new in my liked songs on spotify and i love them!!!! (ok it's official are music tastes are very similar 💓) (and of course walls, harrys albums + nialls albums are everything!!!!!!) (in the future ill tell you some of mine🥰)
so i don't think ive liked any of the anons i've sent you and nope my name does not start with the letters l-r 🤭🤭 and im sorry idk why i feel like if i told you what we've talked about you'd figure it out, maybe not but just in case i won't say but in response to my valentine's message you said you think you might know who i am has it changed? also as a recap: im a mutual, non desi, i haven't liked any of the anon posts and my name does not start with l-r!! that's all i will not say for now.
ok for me an ideal date would be one where we can spend the whole day together: maybe in the morning go out for a quick breakfast then go to a farmer's market and spend a couple hours there and then have a picnic at a park with some of the things we bought from the market and after eating lay in the sun a bit resting, close to each other of course. then when we feel rested we can go for a walk around the park and get some ice-cream (do you like ice cream) from there we can maybe do a but of shopping or even just walk around some shops seeing if we find anything we like and end the day either at a small restaurant at dinner or at one or the others home for a homemade dinner + a movie (depending on our moods) and of course cuddles & handholding a must throughout the day, with kisses of course !!!
what's YOUR ideal date? 🥰🥰
i love you!! i hope you had a very lovely wednesday (that i think maybe by the time you read this you'll be finishing with your wednesday) and remember you are very loved by many people💞💞💞
hi. HI. (you're sorry??! pls i disappeared for like 3 days. i'm so sorry :// uni had been so stressful and just. my executive dysfunction hit so bad this week. but i had a counselling session today so i'm feeling lighter today)
ok you know how this workds. i ranted. whoops?
valentine's ended up being not so good. i got overly emotional about missing my best friend who i don't talk to anymore and sent her a whole essay. only to wake up in the morning and have her reply back. happy valentine's day to you too. so i guess i know where i stand there lmao. but other than that it was just a normal day. i don't really celebrate it i guess. but it was lovely to see everyone and their mutuals sending each other funny cards heheehhe.
ahhh okayy you're working!! glad you're done with uni. i am. DYING. i need this semester to be over now. like NOW. (idk any other football except soccer. what even is american football. there is only ONE type of football. and it's black and white.)
ok i'm gonna get back to our song discussion in a minute. but i'm gonna jump to who i think you are first. okay so. i've thought you as about 5 different mutuals till now. don't even ask. i'm very indecisive. i kept getting confused cause i was trying to connect the prose to a person. and then i got even more confused. and then i thought it might've been some of my desi gc friends. so i needed to make sure they weren't lying ahahaha. and then your first message. i thought it was a completely different person then.
but you know what gave you away sweets? your music taste. i read this like 4 days ago when you sent it. and i instantly had an idea of who you were. there's only one person i know who would go crazy over cam's album the way i did. we've actually once talked about how similar our music tastes were. there was this tag game where we were asked to rec songs from our urls and when you did your rec. i remember commenting and saying that we basically had the same taste cause majority of the songs were in my liked too hehehe.
also your comment about how i post about education should've given me a hint enough. but my brain didn't put it together. oh well. also if i'm still wrong. i will riot. so i think your name starts from the letters a-f. and i think we've talked about education before. and if you're who i think you are. you're in the middle of a move or have moved. i really hope i'm right. or else this is gonna be very very VERY embarrassing.
now moving back to music. omgg yess cam's album that's why i love it. that it's nostalgic but it's filled with hope. omgomg. i was just discussing this with another friend. they were talking about how her album doesn't have that bitterness that longing to go back to what she once had. and i was like EXACTLY. like that's the whole point. because there's thousands of songs and albums filled with that need, with that desperation with that longing. but what's different about hers is the acceptance of it all and the HOPE. yes she thinks about the past. but she also leaves the past exactly where it is. it's essentially a moving on album. it's like a goodbye. where you're not latching onto the past anymore but you're remembering it fondly, sadly but also accepting that it's gone. ughh so good. i still listen to it on repeat some days. but omg i did not know that about mitch helping write on forgetting you. it's so goodd ughhh. AND YES SAME. very big fan of till there's nothing left. makes me feel proper dramatic when i'm lip syncing to it while i study ahahaha.
okay we literally have the same music taste please. ALSO OMG YOU SAW SAM SMITH LIVE?!??!! luckyy youu. i'm still waiting for covid to go away so i can finally go to my first concert ahahaa. it's like i was so so excited to finally be able to save up and be at the age to go by myself and everything just shut down.
ok so. my ideal date. it's very similar to yours and idk what to think about that ahahha. ok so. it would depend on what kind of day i'm having. i tend to have days where i hate the outdoors cause the noises and the people and just everything gives me sensory overload and a massive headache. but if i'm feeling energized and up for it then we have a different story.
so yes i'd prolly go with a picnic too. but it would be like a brunch sort of thing. where we just kinda grab sandwiches and a bunch of other fruits and junk food and pink champagne. i have this thing for pink champagne at picnics haha. it's pretty and yummy :) it's fun cause i get really loud. like even louder than usual. i'm a blast!! (omg this one time. me and my friends were on a picnic and we nearly killed somebody with a champagne cork. like it flew right past their head. it was the funniest thing. also it was our second bottle. and we had WAP playing from a speaker at full volume. lesson of the day. do not day drink on picnic grounds hehehe) and yes laying in the sun please. we'd have music playing because if you go with me. i travel almost everywhere with a bluetooth speaker. so it would be a mini-party. trust me. and just for the fun of it. i'd bring along some card games. prolly UNO. and yes we can get ice cream. am i basic if i say my favorite is plain chocolate. (i'm not very adventurous with flavours of things i enjoy lmao) ALSO YES COOKING TOGETHER would be my indoors plan!! ohmygod. we'd have such a blast. music playing. BAKING!!! we have to bake. cookies. prolly a small cake. prolly have something light for lunch. and do a nice full meal for dinner. i do enjoy cooking. it can be very cathartic.
so i feel like i was all over the place explaining that. but i think my ideal date would be spending time together while music plays in the background. i like doing things. i love talking. museum dates would be fun too. and ideal date would just be coming back home and falling into bed and getting that tired feeling but also still being so so awake. because you don't wanna close your eyes but also you're tired cause you had such a blast. and ideal date would be feeling THAT at the end of the day regardless of what we did.
i hope you've had a lovely few days yourself my love <33 i apologize for making you wait. and i hope you wake up and have a wonderful day tmr! mwa mwa i love youuu <3333

LUCY AND PHIL HARRIS STRIKE UP THE BAND
S6;E21 ~ February 25, 1974
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Directed by Jack Donohue ~ Written by Robert O'Brien
Synopsis
To drum up business for the Unique Employment Agency, Lucy replies to an ad in the newspaper to supply musicians for Phil Harris' orchestra. The candidates she brings Harris are all of different ethnicity, creating a multi-cultural musical act.
Regular Cast
Lucille Ball (Lucy Carter), Gale Gordon (Harrison Otis Carter)
Lucie Arnaz (Kim Carter) does not appear in this episode, although the final credits do state “Lucie Arnaz Wardrobe by Alroe”.  The character is mentioned by Lucy in the dialogue.
Guest Cast
Tumblr media
Phil Harris (Himself) previously played soused songwriter Phil Stanley in a 1968 episode of “The Lucy Show.”  Harris was known as a bandleader who became a comic radio star as a Jack Benny sidekick in the 1930s. Although his fondness for booze was largely a creation of the Benny’s writers, Harris played the part to the hilt. Harris was mentioned in “Lucy Gets Jack Benny’s Account” (TLS S6;E6) when Benny made a reference to Harris’ persona as a lush. In “Lucy and Joan” (TLS S4;E4) Joan (Joan Blondell) says she’s been in pictures so long she saw Phil Harris take his first drink! Harris was married to movie star Alice Faye from 1941 until his death in 1995 at age 91.
Tumblr media
Tommy Farrell (Fred, Phil Harris' Arranger) was on Broadway in three plays between 1942 and 1947. He was seen on “The Lucy Show” twice. This is the last of his six episodes of “Here’s Lucy.”
In the final credits Farrell is billed as “Freddie” although Harris never calls him anything but “Fred.”  The name is probably a tribute to Lucille Ball's brother and grandfather, both of whom were named Fred.
Tumblr media
Marl Young (Marl Young, Pianist) was the “Here’s Lucy” musical director and often appeared on camera when episodes included music.
Young (as the character) says he's been working as an accountant. His last gig was with the Boston Philharmonic.
Tumblr media
Michaelani (Mr. Yamoto) makes the third of his four screen appearances here.
Mr. Yamoto plays the clarinet and says he speaks several languages.
Tumblr media
Anthony Ortega (Ooka Lanooka) was a professional saxophonist (although he does not play the instrument here) and is making his screen acting debut.
Ooka Lanooka plays the whale bones and is number one in his field. Back in Alaska, he worked a couple of one-night stands, which Lucy calls “working steady” because the nights in Alaska are six months long!
Tumblr media
Henry L. Miranda (Pancho Rodriguez)
Pancho is a trumpet player formerly of Herb Albert and the Tijuana Brass.
Tumblr media
Jack Kelso (Saxophonist in Harris' Band, uncredited) worked as a studio musician between 1964 and 1984, in addition to recording with Mercer Ellington and Mink DeVille, touring worldwide and appearing in "The Concert for Bangladesh" as part of Jim Horn and the Hollywood Horns.
Ted Nash (Saxophonist / Clarinetist in Harris' Band, uncredited) was a saxophonist with Les Brown and His Band of Renown. In addition to being a studio musician for many films, he worked on the series “Peter Gunn” (1958-59).
The other members of Harris' orchestra, including ‘Hawaiian’ guitarist Malikalua, are played by uncredited musicians.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Two days after this episode first aired, February 27, 1974, The New York Times broke the news that Lucille Ball had decided not to continue with “Here’s Lucy” and that the show would finish production at the end of its current season.  This came as no surprise to anyone, including viewers.
Tumblr media
The the book “Lucy A to Z: The Lucille Ball Encyclopedia” by Michael Karol, it is noted that Anthony Ortega was a professional saxophonist who was cast by “Here's Lucy” Musical Director Marl Young. Ortega remembers nearly stepping on Lucille Ball's foot while crammed into the booth to pre-record the music for this episode.  Afterwards, Ball complimented him by kissing him on the cheek and saying “You did a good job. I hear that you are a very fine saxophone player.” High praise, considering that all Ball's TV characters were amateur saxophonists. Ortega shared the booth with fellow sax players Jack Kelso and Ted Nash who also appear in the episode.
The script was dated January 9, 1974, meaning there was very little time between filming and broadcast – a mere seven weeks.
Tumblr media
In her DVD introduction to the episode, Lucie Arnaz reminds us of her mother's early advocacy for hiring minorities, including Lucie's own father, Desi Arnaz, whom CBS was skeptical about portraying Ricky Ricardo. She also states that Marl Young was the first African American Musical Director of a major television show. Lucie calls this episode “Music for Everyone's Ears.”
Tumblr media
Lucy says she was at the Wilshire Bowl the night Alice met Phil. This is a reference to Phil Harris' second wife, movie star Alice Faye. Faye herself was mentioned on “The Hollywood Unemployment Follies” (S3;E22) when Lucy and Carol Burnett discover a rack of costumes worn by Faye and Betty Grable. Harris and his orchestra had a regular engagement at the Wilshire Bowl, a restaurant in Hollywood located on Wilshire Boulevard which operated from 1933 to 1943. The building was demolished in 1982. Harris married actress / singer Alice Faye in 1941. Lucy says if she'd gotten to the Wilshire Bowl five minutes sooner she might be Mrs. Phil Harris!
Tumblr media
“Phil Harris, popular star of stage screen and television, is taking a sentimental journey back into the music business. Between Las Vegas engagements, Phil is organizing a big band to encourage the increasing popularity of this kind of music. The former maestro has been engaged by the Club Internationale to inaugurate a big band policy for this popular night spot. He is looking for musicians with big band know-how to augment his orchestra now in rehearsal.”
Lucy's morning paper of choice is the Globe-Record. “Here's Lucy” propmaster Kenneth Westcott probably got this newspaper from from a small prop company called The Earl Hays Press, one of the oldest newspaper prop manufacturers in Hollywood.
Tumblr media
As the series draws to a close, it might be a good time to mention the ubiquitous blue report covers used at the Unique Employment Agency. The use of this color cover dates back to the Westland bank offices on “The Lucy Show.” These are probably bound scripts recycled as props – but always with the blue cover.  Blue was a good color for Lucy!
To drum up business, Harry arranges a lunch meeting with the Northshore Insurance Company. In many episodes like this one, Gale Gordon's character is in the set-up (generally the first scene) and then disappears from the narrative.
Tumblr media
When Lucy arrives at the nightclub, Phil Harris is finishing a rehearsal of “Is It True What They Say About Dixie?" a 1936 song written by Irving Caesar, Sammy Lerner and Gerald Marks.
Tumblr media
Lucy tells Harris that they have met before. She had Harris autograph her program during his performances at the Frontier in Las Vegas the previous summer. Lucy says she took the bus to Vegas. Frontier was the second resort that opened on the Las Vegas Strip and operated continuously from October 1942 until it closed on July 16, 2007 and was demolished. The Frontier's sign was glimpsed in the opening montage of “Lucy and Wayne Newton” (S2;E22).
Tumblr media
When Mr. Yamoto (who is of Japanese descent) continually bows instead of speaks, Lucy reassures Harris that he's very good. Harris replies “Must be. He ain't hit a note and he's already taking bows.”
Tumblr media
When Harris questions Lucy about the number of minorities she's brought to audition, he admits that he is Native American himself, but he doesn't let it get around because “they might cut off my whiskey.” He adds if it wasn't for [Equal] Opportunity, he might be “stringing beads at Wounded Knee.” I reality, the idea that Harris was Native American is as exaggerated as his penchant for spirits. Harris' birth name was Wonga, which is Cherokee for “speedy messenger” but the name is in honor of a friend of his parents' who worked in their circus; nothing to do with his heritage.
Tumblr media
The only candidate that doesn't get to perform solo is named Malikalua. He is a Hawaiian guitar player who Lucy claims works as a plumber during the day but sometimes subs with the Les Brown Band at night. In the final performance the guitarist on the bandstand wears a Hawaiian shirt and many colorful leis around his neck.  This is Malikalua.
Phil Harris: Look, honey. Are you from the employment agency or the United Nations?
Tumblr media
To appease a women’s lib group picketing the nightclub, Lucy is quickly recruited into Harris' act. She provides the obligatory clapping for “Deep in the Heart of Texas.” In “Lucy and the Used Car Dealer” (S2;E9) Lucy Carter disguises herself as ‘Laredo Lucy’ and sings a bit of “Deep in the Heart of Texas,” a 1941 song by June Hershey and Don Swander.
Tumblr media
Harris sings his hit song “That’s What I Like About the South” by Andy Razlaf and is joined by Lucy and his recently hired musicians. Specially written lyrics are sung by the diverse musicians and by Lucy.  Her's seem particularly applicable to her character in Mame, although it is not overtly stated:
“Men have names like Beauregard
Tip their hat when they pass your yard
They act so cool but they fall so hard
That's what I like about the South”
Tumblr media
In the about-to-be-released film, Southern gentleman Beauregard Jackson Pickett Burnside (Robert Preston) “falls so hard” for Mame Dennis (Lucille Ball) that the two get married.
During Harris' performance at the Club Internationale, the orchestra members stand up and take solos:
Tumblr media
His trombonist plays in the style of Tommy Dorsey. Dorsey appeared with Lucille Ball in the 1943 film DuBarry Was a Lady. The uncredited musician riffs on “Marie” by Irving Berlin.
Tumblr media
His trumpeter plays in the style of Harry James. James appeared on “The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour” with his wife, Betty Grable, in 1958. The uncredited musician riffs on "Ciribiribin" written by Alberto Pestalozza in 1898.
Tumblr media
His clarinetist Ted Nash plays in the style of Benny Goodman. In “The Publicity Agent” (ILL S1;E31) Lucy reads that the Shah of Persia has a standing order for all Benny Goodman's records, which inspires her disguise as the Maharincess of Franistan. Nash riffs on “Let's Dance” by Fanny Mae Baldridge, Gregory Stone, and Joseph Bonime.
Tumblr media
His drummer plays in the manner of Gene Krupa. In a 1960 episode of “The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour” Ernie Kovacs called Desi Arnaz “the Cuban Krupa.” The uncredited musician riffs on “Sing, Sing, Sing” by Louis Prima.
Tumblr media
Pianist Marl Young plays in the style of Duke Ellington, riffing on"Take the 'A' Train" by Billy Strayhorn. It was the signature tune of the Duke Ellington orchestra.
Tumblr media
As the finale, the entire Phil Harris orchestra plays in the style of Count Basie performing Basie's signature tune “One O'Clock Jump” while Lucy does the jitterbug.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In “Lucy and Sid Caesar” (TLS S6;E23), a starving Frankie the Forger (Sid Caesar) orders pork chops, a squab stuffed with oyster dressing, a turkey, lasagna, black-eyed peas, candied yams, corn pone, Virginia hams, hot bread, turnip beans, fat back, and lima beans!  He is paraphrasing the lyrics to the song “That’s What I Like About the South.” Interestingly, the song was not performed by Phil Harris when he was a guest star on “The Lucy Show” just a month earlier.
Tumblr media
Bob O'Brien also wrote “Lucy and Phil Harris” (TLS S6;E20), Harris' first appearance with Lucille Ball on “The Lucy Show” in 1968. It was O'Brien's idea to highlight ethnic diversity in the “Here’s Lucy” script.
Tumblr media
The costumes Lucy provides for the new band members are reminiscent of “The Black Wig” (ILL S3;E26) where Lucy Ricardo and Ethel Mertz disguise themselves in a random assortment of theatrical costumes to fool their husbands. Lucy replies that Ethel looks like “An ad for a trip around the world.”
Tumblr media
In “Little Ricky Gets a Dog” (ILL S6;E14) on January 21, 1957) his parakeets are named Alice and Phil, named after Alice Faye and her husband Phil Harris.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You Break Me Up, Pastel!  Harris' punchline “they might cut off my whiskey” makes Lucille Ball laugh in a way that suggests it was an ad lib by Harris. He mutters something under his breath to Ball along the lines of “Cut off his whiskey. You like that?”  They try to return to the script, but Harris adds “You like that, eh Pastel?” before Lucy regains her composure and continues the scene.
Tumblr media
“Lucy and Phil Harris Strike Up the Band” rates 4 Paper Hearts out of 5
Lucy and Harris have a very relaxed rapport on screen.  The ‘big band’ medley is one of the best musical segments of the series.  And that’s what I liked about this episode!

8 Questions Tag :)
I was tagged by @nct-aeyonq who is highkey relatable and a really awesome person and a great content creator and wow I really look up to you and I’m always admiring from a far hey hello
But yes here are my answers :)
1: If you could say one sentence to your bias, what would it be?
Probably a really long run on sentence to get in how much he means to me and how much I love him. Probably something like, “Hey, the way you work hard and go after the things that you want is really so inspiring to me and motivates me to be a better person so thank you for being you and for being so caring to those around you and to your fans because it’s helped me through tough times and did I mention I love you please stay healthy take care of yourself you lovely human being.”
2:  What was the first Kpop MV you ever saw?
I’m crying laughing the first ever K-pop MV I saw was A-Cha by Super Junior and it was back when I was in middle school. I think it was after I watched a Kev Jumba video and he played a clip of that song and I just loved it so much I went to go find it and when I did I fell in love with the song and high key biased Kyuhyun (but I didn’t even know what a bias was at the time) but I never really ever got into Kpop as a whole, I just listened to a couple of SuJu songs. Flash-forward a few years and BTS dope and blood sweat and tears threw me down the Kpop hole.
3: If you could spend one day with three Kpop idols, who would they be?
This is easy but also sO HARD I’M IFFDFNJERBJSJRFERIRHWBE. The first three that came to mind were Jackson Wang (obvi), Wonho (honestly I love him too far too much he wrecked me so bad), and Young K (EDLLFHLFLDFB I LOVE THIS BOY SO MUCH I’M SO SOFT AND WEAK FOR HIM). Runners up are Yuta, Yugyeom, and Chanyeol.
4:If you were a Kpop song, which one would you be and why?
ok so this is gonna get real deep real fast and I’m gonna be completely candid here. I wish I could say I were a song that’s upbeat and hype and happy like a lot of Monsta X’s songs or like a Got7 love song, but I would say that the song that’s most me or like me or speaks my truth is actually a song by a group that’s not my bias group and who I don’t like actively follow anymore. So Far Away by BTS’s Min Suga is the song I would say is most me. Now, I don’t take what it means to say that song is me lightly. For a good portion of my life, I suffered from clinically diagnosed depression, a battle that I’m still currently fighting. I also have a low grade anxiety that makes it really hard for me to reach out and talk to people so for the longest time I suffered alone, I know what it’s like when the lyrics of this song talk about not having a dream and having no out from a life you never asked for, but constantly and always wondering “Why am I here?”. I don’t want to get too deep about this stuff because it’s quite triggering and I want this to be happy, so I won’t say too much more except for the fact that I’m doing so much better. Seeing a psychiatrist, going on medication for a short while, and my friends really helped me get to a place where I don’t feel like the walking dead, where I’m not crying every night, shutting my family and friends out, hurting myself, and living my life like I’m ready to die. It’s still scary, being given a future I never thought I’d have, but Min Suga can do it, I can too. So, this song really means a lot to me. There’s always a chance at happiness, and I’ve learned that. That’s why I would say this song is most me. If you have a dream, go for it and never let others tell you you can’t do something. Never deprive yourself the chance to get better, the chance to be happy.
5:  Have you ever been to a concert, and if yes, who did you see?
I’ve never been to a ~Kpop~ concert but I’ve been to plenty of concerts for some american bands that I love and some that I used to be into but am not so much anymore! I’ve seen The Ready Set, Bullet For My Valentine, Stars in Stereo, Black Veil Brides, Of Mice and Men, Ghost Town, Bring Me the Horizon, and when I went to Warped tour I saw Falling in Reverse, The Maine, Issues (for the second time I saw them first when they went on tour with another band), and Sleeping With Sirens (I passed out from heat exhaustion during their stage tho I hope it still counts). I finally got tickets to go see All Time Low in December, a band I’ve been dying to see since Sophomore year of Highschool so I’m very excited for that and hopefully I’ll get these Day6 tickets!!!
6: What’s one thing you wish people knew about you?
I’m really not trying to be hard to approach and I really do want to talk to you, it’s just that I get so nervous when I talk to people and I start to second guess everything and it makes it really hard for me to make friends. I can’t even count the amount of times someone has talked to me or said something to me and I’m so excited they’re talking to me and so happy that they actually chose to speak words to me but I just nod or smile in response because I’m too nervous to say anything. That goes with messages too, I’m not ignoring anyone or not tagging you guys in stuff because I don’t like you, I’m just really so painfully awkward and shy and anxious to talk to anyone.
7: Favorite food?
I’m desi so you already know I love my Biryani *heart eyes*. In terms of american food, though, I love fries. Anything potato. It’s my weakness. And pasta. I just love complex carbs.
8: What talent do you wish you had, but don’t?
literally anything I’ll take anything I’m not talented at anything I’ll take any talent I can even if it’s the ability to play a kazoo with my nostrils Ok but this is hard because there’s so much I want to do. Probably the ability to pick languages up easily because I would love to talk to everyone in the world and it feels really good to talk to people in their mother tongues, and to understand what their saying. I used to volunteer at this food bank when I was in high school and taking AP Spanish and whenever they had someone who couldn’t speak english, I would talk to them in Spanish and jut seeing their faces transform seeing that someone is making the effort to talk to them and understand them, that was the best feeling. They would always appreciate it so much and I love talking in other languages.
Thank you for tagging me!! I really don’t think you’ll understand how much it means to me but it really does mean a lot to me, especially when it’s so hard for me to talk to people, so thank you :) I hope you have a lovely day, and please don’t mind when I spam like/reblog things from your blog I just think you’re really cool
My Questions for the people I tag:
1. Where do you see yourself in 10 years and what do you hope to accomplish?
2. What made you decide that your bias group just had to be your bias group?
3. What are the qualities you admire most in your bias and why/ which of those qualities do you wish to have?
4. What are your top 3 bias groups and your favorite eras for those groups?
5. What is your fave hair color your ult bias has dyed their hair and would you ever dye your hair that color?
6. If you had to choose one song to listen to for the rest of your life, which one would it be?
7. What are your 3 happiest memories?
8. What fictional place/world would you most like to live in or visit?
Here are all the people I’m tagging and please don’t feel obligated to do this if you don’t want to but I would love to see your answers! @super-saiyan-taeyong, @redgyeomie, @markiepoohismysunshine, @jacksonwangblog, @elaineyysenpai, @stan-the-best-stan-monsta-x and some of my followers I see in my notifications a lot I see you and I appreciate you, let’s get to know each other? :) @bapinspirit97 @fengarifood

Listening habits of the Tempest Crew
Having had a bit of experience of game by now, I’m pretty confident I’ve got a good basic knowledge to form an opinion on what I believe the Tempest crew would listen to, and I have a bit of time on my hands. So why not eh? I’ll be sticking with new-ish artists for this one - felt it appropriate given how young most of the crew is. Except Drack obviously. He must feel he’s protecting a bunch of kids sometimes
This is a follow-up to a similar post I did for the Normandy crew and I’m definitely not using it to plug said post or perhaps to click my music tag, no sir Bob sir
Peebee - Peebee is this boisterous and gregarious personality who appears to be the kind of person who knows exactly what personal boundaries are and prods them if she wants to be friends. Peebee almost certainly strikes me as someone who listens to pop music in all its incarnations, but particularly when at a party. We’re talking Shawn Mendes, Dua Lipa or Dagny. I’d also imagine she’d occasionally listen to psych pop every now and again, someone like Blossoms or The Big Moon.
Example track would be maybe Dagny’s ‘Backbeat‘ or Blossom’s ‘At Most a Kiss’
Liam Kosta - Kosta’s correspondence with you indicates that Kosta is a pop culture fanatic so I’d expect his music library to be as extensive as his film library. It’d therefore be quite hard to pin a favourite genre but his primary motivation, that of making friends and allies, suggest music that you talk about or just have on while chilling. Classic rock is one suggestion, another is alternative rock and I’d imagine if he’s working out he’d have some sort of EDM tuned in too, probably drum and bass. Given his origins, he’ll mostly stick with British artists for all three - Rolling Stones (I mean obviously) for the first, Lemaitre for the second and Rudimental for the third
Example track would be the Rolling Stones ‘(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction‘ or Rudimental’s ‘Lay It All on Me’
Cora Harper - Cora isn’t obvious. She spent a childhood on a freighter trying to manage her biotics and after a spell in the Alliance she’s put into an asari unit and never looked back. She’d listen to asari music (duh) but given that we have no examples I can’t speculate what the closest contemporary analogue would be. I’d tentatively say indie classical romanticists would be the safest choice, with people like Federico Albanese or Missy Mazzoli but hell, you could make a convincing argument for acoustic guitar music too, people such as Henrik Lanson and Miranda Boumedin
Example track would be Miranda Boumedin’s guitar cover of ‘River Flows in You’, a track which sadly you can only listen on Spotify or Deezer
Nakmor Drack - Drack’s been round the block, beat it up, broke his arm on it and came back to beat it all over again. Drack also spent a lot of that time just spinning his wheels too with only his granddaughter getting him out of it. Drack’s a blues man through and through, specifically of the Delta blues variety. We’re talking Son House and Bukka White. After his funk he’d move into the big band blues era epitomised by Muddy Waters and Howlin’ Wolf
Example tracks would be ‘Fixin’ to Die Blues’ by Bukka White and ‘Mannish Boy’ by Muddy Waters
Vetra Nyx - Difficult to call. Vetra’s dad may have ostensibly done it to protect them but abandoning his kids without making arrangements to have them looked after is unforgivable in my eyes. Consequently Vetra spent really far too long being forced be an adult and that also makes deciding on a genre difficult too. My gut feeling is that should would’ve been listening to whatever her superiors would’ve been listening to so I guess an analogue would be listening to your boss’s easy retro music. I don’t know about you but from where I’m from that’d be things like Northern and Retro Soul and artists like Amy Winehouse and Corinne Bailey Rae
Example track would be Corrine Bailey Rae’s ‘Your Love is Mine’
Jaal Ama Darav - It would appear to be difficult to ascribe a particular genre to Jaal, given how much the angara have lost and what little they can make growing up during a war that started before you were born but it’s easier than you think. Jaal however shows a fascination with the new arrivals and given how he says he appreciates the elcor production of Hamlet as well the angara predilection towards an open culture, I think you could make the case that Jaal’s taste lies more with strong and emotive lyrics than a specific genre per se. So we’re talking musical artists who can spin lyrics like else no-one can - David Bowie, Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan in other words
Example track would be Leonard Cohen’s ‘Anthem’, especially when he says ‘there’s a crack in everything; that’s how the light gets in’
Kallo Jath - Initially it would seem that Kallo’s genre would be hard to nail down. We might be able to probe further from his motivations though - he’s the only person involved with the Tempest’s construction who ultimately went with it to Andromeda. He’s a pioneer as much as he is a pilot, and confesses that he lives for flying and discovering - he’s a roadtrip music kind of person, meaning anything between blues rock, indie folk and indie rock. Paolo Nutini, Parker Millsap and George Ezra would round out his playlist. He’s sitting next to Suvi too and well, they’re best friends so much share some taste in music right?
Example track here would be Paolo Nutini’s ‘Last Request’... maybe. Salarians are asexual remember?
Lexi T’Perro - Lexi grew up on Omega and is a known workaholic but she must listen to something right? I’d imagine in what little downtime she uses for actual downtime she’d have something relaxing on in the background - classical minimalism from artists like Alan Ellis or (you saw this coming) Ludovico Einaudi.
Example track would be Alan Ellis’ ‘Looking for More’, which annoyingly is only available on Spotify. Ah well
Gil Brody - Gil’s genre would be laughably easy to identify. He’s an engineer, and every single engineer I’ve ever met always listen to heavy metal, regardless of which engineering discipline they specialise in. I don’t listen to it if I’m honest but I can avoid picking a band in this case because metal bands conveniently fail to pick a legible font to write their band name in so no rec from me here
That’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it
Suvi Anwar - I haven’t got much to go on, besides the fact that she’s what I imagine Ryder would be if they spent more time in a book and less time being an incessant smartarse. Suvi strikes me as an rhythm and blues kind of person. We’ll say anything between the dark and sensuous Cosima to the optimism of Desi Valentine
Example track would be ‘Fate Don’t Know You’ by Desi Valentine
Ryder - Ryder is an interesting case because in ME:A Ryder is the only BioWare protagonist, so far as I’m aware, who not only has a fairly concrete personality (typical sarcastic millennial basically), but who also has a sibling who is an alternative protagonist who nevertheless also has a different personality
As a result, we have TWO Ryders to fit a genre for. Scott would be indie rock and maybe the drum and bass end of EDM with people like Royal Blood for the former and Dub Phizix for the latter. Sara I think would go for dark pop and alt rock, so people like Bishop Briggs and Florence and the Machine
So for Scott we could say Dub Phyzix’s ‘Bounce’ and for Sara I’d say ‘Wild Horses’ by Bishop Briggs would fit her best
And there we are. This is the part where I ask for your ideas and recs so go do that. I’m going to hipster elsewhere for a bit whilst I manbun and... eh forget it

on politics:
none of us in our right minds would refer to an afro american as ‘nigger’. but afro-americans do not have the same obligation to be careful regarding that word or act sacred about it, unless they wish to. they can laugh while calling each other ‘niggah’. I feel something similar about the word ‘comrade’. it’s my inheritance, and can laugh about it if I so wish, there is no obligation to go around being reverent about it, and by extension, it can surely never sound patronizing when I say it.
i equate niggah and comrade only because both words did not start out as words referring to the ruling or protected classes, and were even used derisively by them then! but now, both words are not really tied to their historical connotations, at least not in their entireties, also not in every context. it can be cool to be a nigger(ask Dave Chapelle), it can be cool to be a comrade(ask Dulquer Salman). naturally, to pretend that it can sound patronizing any longer, is at worst lazy ignorant or at best a lazy lie….esp. when the accused is someone who mostly sits in a room staring out of the window by herself, and have no real party politics to speak of! meaning, when you are equally pissed off as your accuser, you don’t think that you owe them any explanation.
anyways, because it’s my inheritance, i value the word just as much as the average comrade does. say, if i find an election manifesto on a celebrity feed, it’s tough to get too excited, instantly! so i try to look for a connecting link— healthcare, medicine, disability. there! that I truly care about. and when i read and learn about just that, it helps me to retain some integrity regarding the comrade inheritance. guess this is more to do with people’s personalities, i don’t think this is how most people prefer to approach their politics or, feel the need to, I am just saying this is how I look at it. something of a personal nature really, nothing more to it!
what made me wish to be like eeda_Leela who is slightly more familiar with the politics of everything happening around her than eeda_Aishwarya, is the year-long hackathon that brought me up-close to society and the politics of the everyday, than ever before! everyday politics is mostly always about feeling than thinking, ask Brexit voters or Trump supporters. I’m not even referring to ideologies per se, I’m just saying, it’s mostly about influencing people, enough to make them ‘feel’ something. so, if i say I am now a comrade just like all my friends are, and wish to join the election festival alongside everyone, it’s bcoz now i am starting to ‘feel’ something; the ‘KL wave effect’ is influential clearly ha ha! BK, who has always been the poster boy of elite hipster-hood, now aspires to reach the entirety of his troll soul depth and party with the proletariat through the night. that says it all for me! Advaid(AD) says he came to Kerala at the age of 18. soon, in 2015 —was he 24 then? i was 31— I saw him shrug off all his hipster English and start to dappankoothu his way into Malayalam. If I’m remembering right,  there were quite a few civic-conscious Facebook posts by him, in all-Malayalam. i don’t know who influenced him in particular, may be he self-influenced, having stayed long enough in Kerala!
I had some time to myself these past couple of weeks, and realized that I’m naturally-inclined to be eeda_Aishwarya when it comes to Kerala politics, and that I cannot self-influence regarding the politics of the everyday, unlike eeda_Leela who easily can. and I’m eeda_Aishwarya in Boston too, I cannot naturally-invest in party politics here either. i don’t even know what is the Mueller Report! I don’t know who are the Senators from Boston after the 2018 November elections. occasionally, I try to read up on some Healthcare-Medicine-Disability, but it has been a while I did that too.
on the other hand, i always had a thing for ‘World Politics’, it has always been my political weed. i can self-influence, and read all kinds of shit on that, enlightening or otherwise! maybe it’s because it’s more humankind-drama, and less humanperson-drama. even if you are not invested in the politics of the immediate, everyday surrounding for any reason, still it encompasses all. reader you, writer me, all of everyone —together, over a lengthy period of time. and I recently discovered this academic-historian, Yuval Noah Harrari. his critics call him ‘pet historian’ of the liberal elite bcoz Obama, Bill Gates, Zuckerberg…everybody is his fanboi! apparently, he is a best selling phenomenon, and I got a copy of his latest book from the local library. from reading so far, it looks as if the book is a bunch of op-Eds put together to meet some rushed-deadline. meaning, the book is good only in parts, not as a whole! some passages seem mind numbingly rhetoric, and even the title of the book feels cliched — 21 lessons for the 21st century.  if your politics is quite evolved and up-to-date, the book may not do much for you. but it did give my half-baked politics, some nice perspective; my politics is far from evolved.
say, he talks about the tidal wave of disillusionment that has touched the liberal elite in a sad Trump world. Harrari says ‘’this is not the first time the liberal story has faced a crisis of confidence. the first era of liberalism ended with WW-I, with imperial powers cutting short the global march of progress. when Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Sarajevo was murdered, it looked as if all the great powers believed more in imperialism, but liberalism survived the Ferdinand moment. it was short lived though, as Hitler came on the scene and made fascism look cool in the 1930s40s. next when 50s70s saw Che revolutionizing minds everywhere, it seemed communism was the true solution, and that liberalism was on it last legs. but then, it was communism that collapsed first, as everyone liked the supermarkets better! so, it seemed like liberalism was the most dynamic and the most solid story through times, and it soon adopted best ideas and practices from others. say, it learnt from communism to expand the circle of empathy, and value the concept of equality alongside liberty (communist welfare programs).’’
‘’as liberalism mostly catered to the middle classes and upper there, western liberals  had a hard time applying their universal values to the non-Westerns. say, even when the Dutch finally got out of Nazi occupation, they were still adamant about colonizing Indonesia. liberalism didn’t become everyone’s favorite, many nationalist movements throughout the world felt like placing their hopes on Moscow or Beijing, rather than champions of liberty from the West! Harrari says that over time, liberalism survived it all — the Ferdinand moment, Hitler moment, Che moment— but now it cannot easily survive the Trump moment, which is far more nihilstic. bcoz all the other movements of the twentieth century offered a vision for the entire human species—global domination, revolution, liberation— Trump offers nothing global for all! he just says Nammude America. and he still mostly likes the liberal package — democracy, free markets, human rights, social responsibility — except all the fine ideas stop at the border. just like the Brexiters who still like all the liberal values, but only for natives of Nammude Britain. Like Xi Jinping who advocates Nammude China and still adores liberalism: their domestic politics is not so liberalized, but their international cooperative-politics is quite Obama-like-liberal. I was watching some Anthony Bourdain the other day, i didn’t even know that Oman is still a Sultanate, and not yet a liberal democracy. but the people seem contented, and in no rush to fuel a democratic government like the rest of the progressive world, and it felt like Nammude Oman there too’’.
all that made me think of how growing up across small-towns-Kerala in the era of Doordarshan, the middle-middle class aspiration extended only up to that of the nation’s cool and confident —be it Northies or Tamils or Bangaloreans or Goans. Hindi was my second language in school, used to write lengthy literary essays. but bcoz I never conversed in Hindi back then, haven’t retained anything from it at all! now when a colleague at work or someone at the desi grocery shop here tries to engage with me in Hindi, i speak in English back. my Tamil is relatively better than my Hindi. I still listen to both Hindi and Tamil music though, and care about following the lyrical meanings. but the aspirations of that Doordarshan watcher have changed, it’s less of, caring for validation from the Hindi speakers and the Tamil speakers surely. it seems more of, staying local and caring for validation from Nammude Boston at random— Mandarin speakers and Spanish speakers maybe or, going the other kind of local and caring for validation from Nammude Keralam at random— Vaikkom dialect speakers and Kasargod dialect speakers maybe!

Meri Zindigi.
I have fallen in love at such a young age. Once your in, you can’t get out. No its not a movie, its my life. My first love came into my life so early and I wasn’t expecting it. My first love was a pain I enjoyed. A pain which I hid underneath all my smiles and happiest moments. All the pain written in a diary. A pain which is left in my heart even after I moved on. I know no one would understand how much I been through and how much i loved him.
October 2015 I just turned 13.he came in a snap. Roblox was were it began. When i first met him, i thought nothing at sight. It was very unusual how it happened.. We had teamed randomly?. God tried pushing us together. He used to join my games randomly and i was uncomfortable at first so one day i even thought of unfriending him but something stopped me from doing it. We had gotten closer as friends but i knew he wasnt my type but i went along with it. I had told my best friend,Kiera, about Rehman. She dared me to send him one of my closest friends instagram and pretend i was her. I did it. I didn’t enjoy lying and lying so i told him the truth about 1 week later. Later found out hes desi ayy :P. I don’t really remember right now but in my diary its written that he used to flirt with me and i wasnt that into it.  December 2015.I have gotten Skype. Kiera met him and we became the 3 musketeers. Talking day and night even call when we got the chance. My favorite memory was when we tried to force Rehman to talk because i loved his voice. Kiera didn’t but she helped me achieve a word or 2 😂. He got annoyed but i loved it haha.It feels like yesterday when it was new year eve 2015. Writing this section right now makes me feel like hes next to me still here. I’m smiling atm.  January 2016. A new year welcomed me. Kiera and I had split up. But this piece isnt written of kiera, its written of him but we were drifting apart too. Hes hanging out with others. I was happy for him. There was this club in roblox which he made,it was beautiful. I met one of his friends in the club. She seemed tight with him. I forgot her name but i think it was julie? Feburary 2016. the month i realized i loved him by watching him like Julie. I mean it was obvious he had feelings for her but i could see it.When i joined them, it felt awkward because i was getting in the way. “You never realize how much you like someone until you watch them like someone else”. It hurts like hell. I feel so deep so quickly but kept my mouth shut. I understood sad song lyrics. I felt depressed but didnt tell anyone.  March 2016. Im crying atm. ‘Hamdard’ came on and im tearing a flood rn. give me a moment...March. March led my depression further. I remember texting him  “hi” and he answered after 6 days but i knew he was spending time with julie so i didn’t want to disturb by spamming. I was crying myself to sleep knewing i fell in love and there is no way out. His birthday came along. I had drawn him a funny thing note.(i have this note still in my diary stapled).  April 2016. told him my feelings. his reaction seemed like he was surprised. even tho he didn’t have feelings, we started to get tighter and that made me happy. Glad i had my best friend back❤️❤️ May-June 2016. best friends. best friends. I was his bestie, he was mine 😋 I fell deeper in love everyday. I started daydreaming in school and got caught haha. I loved him lots lots lots. Video calling was the #shhht :)  July 2016. reading through my diary atm. “hardest time of my life 7/19/16″. We were really tight so i asked him out. Got rejected ok. 4 days later, he goes out with another girl. I never felt that useless in my life. 4 days after rejection he goes out with her. WHAT?!. My depression hit me like a bus. I couldn’t take it anymore honestly. Crying myself to sleep everynight and pretending everything is ok when im dying....im dying inside. He chose a girl who he had just met over me. I forgot this girls name sorry tumblr but she was something. It was funny when she tried to pretend she was this pinterest famous girl, i would have told Rehman a month earlier but he seemed happy. Before they dated, her bf and I knew each other very well due to fashion games and modeling but we werent friends.Chris would message me saying how he hated Rehman. He would stalk them and tell me about them but i didnt stalk neither talk shade. I was so jealous also. I loved him so much and seeing this made me want to rage. I would keep my mouth shut for most of the time but when i opened it, it would cause fights. Why was i so jealous of them when i had a bf at that time. Justin and I were “dating”(not really) for like 2 weeks because i tried to get my mind off Rehman and also Justin needed to prove to BMMS that i was a datetable person so lol. The hard part was i had to smile but inside i wanted die.The even harder part was i had an Angina attack july 15 and stayed in the hospital for 4 days but when i logged on after i came home, i didn’t even get a text from him neither did i tell him about what happened. Why would Rehman care if i did? August 2016. I knew there was no point in trying anymore but i didn’t give up that he hurt me even when i knew i was a “second choice”. 8/4/16 changed everything. Everything i ever wanted was in a text. He told me he loved me. My dreams came true that morning. My tears were happy atlast not depressed ones.  Staying up 4am talking about the most randomest things :P.  Sept. 2016- November 2016 . happy dayz. <33 November 2016. was the month it ended. i didnt think he loved me anymore judging from the words. I felt he didnt want me in his life. He would tell me things like “Goodbye wish you have a good life without me”. It made me think he doesnt want me. Sadness hit me. I could have argued and screamed at him but faked to not care anymore.
He probably thinks i left him forever, but the reality is its because of his happiness
People ask me if i miss him. lots but what im about to tell u is crazy.. I miss him but hes always with me now. Meaning... I see him visually as a person ghost like. I get visions time to time. For example if i read a book, hes playing with my hair. I look at pashmina and i can see him playing with her. When i cook, i imagined him saying how good it is, next to me and then ill smile. When i sing a solo in a large crowd, i would see him clapping at the end. When i wear an indian dress, i can hear his voice calling me beautiful and then i blush.Hes here with me.
i love you still
