luffy bday hcs!

luffy started his journey on his 17th birthday, and saobadoby happends some time before his 18th birthday. its not clear how long it is but fans think luffys journey was around 4-6 months, so he never celebrated his birthday w them, so he didnt think they knew it anyways.. he usually forgets his birthday and they (assumably) didnt know so he didnt think much of it

so the day comes, and low and behold... luffy forgot.

ace told the strawhats when luffys birthday was during their time in alabasta though, and nami made a point to put it on the calendar in the girls dorm, since luffy only ever comes inside so robin will tell him and chopper a bedtime story (usopp and robin alternate)

about a month before his birthday, nami started her mission.

luffy does so much for them without even realizing, he deserves a good birthday!!

granted for as many issues hes solved hes probably started 3 more

she told everyone in advance to start getting gifts, as well as party decorations, so everytime they stopped at an island they could keep an eye out for him.

she puts sanji incharge of the food (obviously) and he decides to make the biggest cake possible, tons of different meat, ramen, onigiri, oden.. whatever you can name, he probably made it.

chopper and usopp were in charge of decorations. they got a piñata, streamers, balloons, etc... they wanted it to look as cool as possible

zoro was incharge of drinks, nami said he was allowed to bring as much sake as he wanted, as long as he got equally as much drinks that luffy likes

so when the day comes, the sunny is rested at an island usopp takes him around all day showing him around and have him trying new foods etc... he was having so much fun!!!

when the sun starts to set, usopp tells luffy that they should probably head back

luffy opens the door to the kitchen and then...

"SUPRISE!!"

it takes a while for luffy to register what happened, and he cant for the life of him figure out whats happening, so he pulls usopps arm and takes him aside to ask

"usopppp!!!" he whispers (fairly loudly at that) "what are we celebrating!! is it your birthday?"

at first usopp laughs... then he realizes he was serious...

after nami hit his head a few times they start to celebrate

zoro got luffy a card (lazy ass) he cares so much for luffy and his crew mates and doesnt know how to say it, so the card is fine. luffy doesnt mind either, he loves it in fact. the front was plain and just said happy birthday, but the inside... oh the inside. zoro and chopper drew the whole crew, its messy and doesnt look good at all, theres spilled ink everywhere despite it being drawn in crayon, and a small note at the bottom that says "thank you for being my best friend" he denies writting it but it still makes luffy ugly cry

nami decides to take 300,000 berries off his debt to her.. he was incredibly thankful. she also lets him pick which needle to follow next on her log pose

usopp got him some food and decorations for his beetles collection!!! he made tiny pieces of furniture for the beetles. luffy thinks its so funny

sanji made him food. but he promised to make all of his faves for the rest of the week

chopper gets luffy some new sandals and he even found a rare beetle on the island.

robin gets luffy books that give fun facts about beetles and frogs! she reads it to him bc he cant sit still since hes so excited 😭, when she gets to a fun fact he didnt know he grabs onto her and shakes her a bit, then runs to tell zoro

franky made a mini robot for his beetles to ride, and its literally the funniest thing ever

brook composes a new song about luffy called "the pirate king" :')

jinbei gave him a gift ace gave him a while ago, it was something minor like a letter, jinbei tells him that luffy would take care of it better than he would and luffy frames it in the kitchen

after that luffy says he to have a sleepover with everyone, they usually only have one sleepover a week but they made an exception

in the past luffy never enjoyed his bday, it was just another day to him after all.. but if all of his birthdays were going to be like this from now on? maybe its worth it

Favorite Character: Kenjaku, Yuuji, Yuki, Choso, Geto

Favorite arc/episode/scene: Different answers for all of these lol. Favorite arc would probably he a tie between Hidden Inventory/Shibuya (I think if I reread Culling Games though it could potentially overtake Shibuya, despite it's flaws). Favorite episode would be the Choso vs. Yuuji fight (ep 13 or 14 season 2?) And also episode 6 of season 2, Premature Death. Favorite scene is is probably a tie between the "I'm You" scene with Yuuji and Mahito and also Mai's death :'(

Character I think is underrated: Hmmm I think Hakari. I think this is the same answer I gave before but I don't think he gets enough love :( Just such a fun character, never disappointed when he gets screentime, he has such a cool CT and also mindset and I'm hoping we get to see more of his fight with Uraume!

Character I think is overrated: Hmm it really just has to be Gojo doesn't it lmao. And I say this where he's still in my top ten characters in the series and used to be in top five, but his popularity is so so so much that you also get terrible interpretations of this character ALL the time and it's very grating. I'm very sad he died (I cried when I read the leaks lmao) but my eye does twitch a lil when I see Gojo revival theories after like 6-7 months for him when the narrative keeps reaffirming he's dead.

Fave ship/Pairing: Threeway tie between Satosugu, Nobamaki, and Chosoyuki. Honorable mention to my rarepair Takaken.

Something I love about the series: I think Yuuji really is the heart of the series and he's such an engaging and complex protagonist. I think the themes around death and purpose in life and death are explored in such an interesting way with him where he's such a kid but has to grow up so quickly in the face of such overwhelming tragedy in his life, knowing that for a lot of the stuff that happens, it's because he's alive and acted as the vessel to Sukuna. Any and all complaints of JJK never involve him and any scene he's in, it's always when the focus is away from him that a few issues arise for me. Also as a sidenote, big fan of the lore when we do get crumbs of it lol.

One Piece

Favorite Character: For strawhats probably a three-way tie between Zoro, Sanji and Robin. Also Luffy. For non Strawhats probably Corazon and Law, Pudding, Dragon, Vivi, and Crocodile.

Favorite arc/episode/scene: This is so difficult with this series lmao. Favorite arc still has to be Water 7 (and if I can wrap Enies Lobby in there too I would). Favorite episode would probably be Episode 1015, that shit was movie quality lmao. Favorite scene...so many to choose from omg. Right now my gut says the moment Sanji came back to the crew in WCI, or maybe Corazon and Law's last moments, or maybe the Alabasta goodbye, or maybe Robin's backstory, or maybe Nothing Happened, or maybe Gear 5-I could go on lmao.

Character I think is underrated: People need to start RESPECTING Pudding omg. She's just a girl in this world, and she's fucked up, but her arc in WCI was so so good and I just see people call her a bitch (which, YEAH, that's the point genius). Obviously I don't like that she hurt Sanji, but she grows from that and changes and the why is very clear after getting her backstory.

Character I think is overrated: Controversial Opinion but Garp. Don't get me wrong I think he's a very well written character and he's interesting and needed in the story, but he has such a large fanbase that go "Golly he's such a victim of the system :(." ...You mean the system HE'S voluntarily upholding???? He's so terrible to Luffy but ESPECIALLY Ace, and Koby might be his student but Koby is already twice the man Garp is lmao. I feel no sympathy for this man sorry.

Favorite ship: Frobin and Zosan, honorable mention to Namivivi as well. Frobin makes the absolute most sense in this world and Zosan I find to be a very fun exploration of both characters, even if it makes a lil less sense sometimes.

Something I love about the series: So I'm never going to claim One Piece is perfect, I have my issues with it. But it is undeniable that there is such love and care and joy injected into this series, while also balancing some really dark/realistic themes and concepts. Such incredibly strong character writing and worldbuilding, but most importantly Oda threads his themes through EVERYTHING in such an engaging way. I can talk about this series for hours upon hours I love it SO much.

Haikyuu!! (Forgive me this is the one I've watched the least recently plus I'm anime only lol)

Favorite character: I actually haven't talked about him much but probably Sugawara! Also Oikawa, Hinata, Bokuto, and Tsukishima are some of my faves as well

Favorite arc/episode/scene: Ooh maybe The Spring High Preliminary arc? I'm very excited for the movie though and I've heard great things about that arc as well. And not really an arc but I really really enjoy anytime they're training together, some of my favorite moments from the show even though they are less hype lmao.

Character I think is underrated: Sugawara >:( I just get him like no other and also kind of related with him being the second best setter on a team anskslxlfl

Character I think is overrated: Hmm don't feel too strongly about any character being overrated, maaaaybe Kageyama? I know most people would say Oikawa lmao but I like him he's the kinda pathetic man I like <3

Fave ship: Bokuaka!! Kind of elaborated before but yeah I just think they have a very sweet dynamic where they compensate for the other's quirks very well. Also love Hinata/Kageyama ofc, and also IwaOi

Something I love about the series: I think this is such a strong start point for people getting into anime or sports anime, idk if it's necessarily doing anything revolutionary but it just does everything right you know? Good feel good show and I do also particularly appreciate the volleyball aspect as that is my favorite sport lmao.

i know you're not catched up yet but what are you're favourite one piece arcs?

Hey Anon! Right, I'm not caught up yet, for now I just started Punk Hazard, which I believe is the start of the Dressrosa saga (I use this to navigate through all the many arcs, superarcs and sagas designation).

So considering where I'm at, this is my ranking of the superarcs of One Piece, from fave to least favorite:

Water Seven/Enies Lobby: currently that's for me the peak of One Piece on every aspect (art, writing, character dynamics, etc). Couldn't stop reading, cried my eyes out and also squealed every few pages, it had it all: Merry's demise, Usopp vs Luffy, Robin's past and fears, meeting Franky, the first direct defeat of the world government, etc.

Alabasta : the arc that made me fall in love with One Piece. I think it took me a week to read from Alabasta to the end of Enies Lobby in December 2022. I was completely drowning in it. I still miss Vivi by the way.

Skypeia : not a fan fave from what I gathered, but this arc was original and kicked ass, so I loved it !

Impel down & Marineford : amazing art and action, awesome new and returning characters, incredible double page spreads everywhere but 1) I missed Luffy's crew T_T ; 2) I spoiled myself about Ace's true identity and his fate way before, so I think the emotional part of these arcs was lost on me ; 3) I would have rather had some parts of the Luffy/Ace/Sabo & Dadan flashback before or during the arcs: I think I would have felt sadder about the broken bond between Luffy and Ace because I would have understood more what linked them

Arlong Park : the arc that made me go from a casual bedtime reader to "uh, that's interesting" and start reading more intently. Also it's a pretty meaningful arc : it's the first time the straw hats started to work together as a crew, we got stronger hints that the world government was a very antagonistic figure, Nami's backstory hit me right in the feels, etc

To the grand Line: Meeting Vivi and Chopper were nice and I loved the overall vibe on the going Merry between the crewmates that was "RIDE OR DIE!!? WHAT EXACTLY ARE WE SUPPOSED TO DO??" !

Thriller Bark; Romance dawn: I enjoyed meeting Brook, but I wasn't a big fan of Moria's powers and the whole intrigue happening on Thriller Bark felt a bit too much for me. Loved the friendship between Nami and Lola though. Same for Romance Dawn, it was mostly the characters' introduction so no real plot yet, but it was very fun.

Sabaody Archipelago & Amazon Lily : a lot happened and I think I got a bit overwhelmed between meeting the supernovae, the celestial dragons, learning more about slavery and racism relating to fishmen and merfolk. Then everything exploded all at once (literally, though I'm thankful for Luffy's punch) and I was like "????!!!" at how fast it escalated. For Amazon Lily, meeting Boa Hancock and learning even more about slavery & celestial dragons was interesting, but otherwise that's it.

Fishman Island: gosh I'm so torn about this arc, because I was SO looking forward to it after the timeskip and... it took me like 3 weeks to read through it because it was a bit boring. The worst part is, I absolutely loved the whole premise, especially with Queen Otohime trying to end racism for her people, Hody being basically Arlong 2.0, the callback to Nami's backstory, Jinbe's amazing character joining the crew but... idk, I wasn't sold on the whole battle with the Noah ship and Shirahoshi being one of the most powerful and sought after characters for being Poseidon. It was okay, but I think I had too much expectations.

Long ring long land : aside from meeting Aokiji, I don't see the point of this arc.

literally the more episodes I watch the more I feel like I could write an essay about the different friendship dynamics between them and why they are all so strong and special in their own way: Zoro diciéndole a Luffy que no pueden volver a perder en Punk Hazard, Luffy diciéndole a Franky sin dudar que él podía comerse la fruta de Ace y Brook admirando el buen corazón de Sanji en Zou- I can talk and cry about each dynamic and I won’t take any slander against them🔪🔪🔪

ver a todos como mejoraron en fmi es demasiado bonito pq de verdad valieron los dos años lejos aunq hayan sido lo peor :') dressrosa is ridiculously long i think it's the arc that took me the longest because i was like please....... please Enough with the flashbacks we get it please let's just move ooooon. i think that part of that is that everything happens within one day so a minute is literally one episode and i was like what is this hunterxhunter?? but the introduction of barto and cora were honestly worth it (even if cora made me cry LMAO)

Or if you don’t want to break down every single arc, maybe just a collection of your faves off the top of your head. (I’m still struggling with reading through OP and having characters to look forward to might help me focus)

Theres A LOT OF ARCS.... I’ll do my favs! UNDER THE CUT!!!

The Orange Town to Arlong- You got (most of) the Strawhats as favs. Nami especially is a stand out but I think Usopp is underrated. I also loved Gin in Baratie... obviously.

Alabasta is terrific. Vivi is great... especially later on and at least for me... I miss her. Shes a good lass. Crocodile is introd here hes great. Daz. Robin!!! Robin especially. Also Ace I think if youre into that kinda thing.

Some people arent a fan of Skypiea but those people are buttholes. So. Stand out favs are Calgara and Norland and not Southbird. How dare Oda make me care so very much for characters who are ancient.

Water 7/Enies Lobby is my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE ARC. So many good characters!!! Iceburg, Paulie, Lucci, Kaku! You get Franky and Robins backstory which brings with it some heavy and beautiful stuff... Oda didnt have to go so hard but... HEY.

Thriller Bark also comes with a shit tone of fun characters. Brook is the stand out... also just CHOICE Zoro action.

Sabaody starts off fun... and then just spirals into insanity! Lotta great characters, some returning good bois. Kizaru is my stand out but you also get the Supernova and info on a bunch of stuff.

Impel Down is also great... Amazon Lily before that you also get some great new characters but Impel Down is A RIOT. More returning good bois and also IVA-CHAN AND HIS MERRY BAND OF MISFITS.

Marineford is HIGH KEY everything. Marcos the Phoenix my fav introd BUT WHAT A LINEUP!!!! And what an arc. Only Water7 outdoes it for me probably.

People tend not to like Fishman Island either but I rather enjoyed it... or I rather enjoyed the flashbacks... its sort of like Skypeia in that way... AND YET OPPOSITE!!! Its a toss up... I love Shyarly and Den but Queen Otohime and Fisher Tiger and Koala... and all that good shit is more important.

Whole Cake is mostly great. Depending how you feel about Sanji you may not care for his part in it... I didnt but I also despise Sanji. But Katakuri is TOP NOTCH. Really everything EXCEPT Sanji is great in Whole Cake. Big Mom? Amazing as well.

Levely is a sharp turn into shenanigans. Serious (kinda) shenanigans. Lots of old faces lots of new faces... Karasus probably my fav introd.

Wano is still going strong... Lotsa good shit. Lotsa characters. Best girl Kiku but theres lots of contenders.
