luffy has a special interest in beetles. he collects them, has a beetle tank thing, feeds them, etc. sometimes robin will knit them tiny hats, or scarves. chopper tells him what their saying and loves watching him take care of them. one time luffy let one out bc it wanted fresh air and it ended with franky sitting on it, robin making tiny coffins, and nami being forced to preform a funeral service. theres now a beetle graveyard in the boys room.

There’s the idea that Luffy can hear people’s heartbeats (idea? I forgot if it’s canon) and like to think that he connects certain sounds to his crews heartbeats.

Like…Zoro sounds like swords swishing and clanging.

Sanji sounds like the steady burning of a stove, or the sizzling of food cooking.

Nami sounds like flutter of maps in the wind.

Usopp sounds like the snap of a slingshot.

Chopper sounds like the steady beat of a heart monitor.

Robin sounds similar to Nami, but it’s more like someone quickly flipping through the pages of a book.

Franky is the steady sound of a hammer to a nail.

Brook (despite not having a beating heart) sounds like a violins’ quick staccato.

And Jimbei sounds like the gentle pulse of the ocean.

I dunno why, I just like that idea.

I think my favorite part about One Piece is that Chopper is about the same age as Luffy and Usopp, but he's treated differently. If Luffy and Usopp are dumbasses, they get a knock on their head. If Chopper is a dumbass, the crew is like "my sweet child. We must protect at all costs." And honestly? Same.
