Going to the pool with 6 kids causes me freakish amounts of anxiety. While I snapped a few pictures at the beginning of the day, I made the conscious decision to leave my phone in my purse. No checking Facebook, no updating friends and family on our adventures, no checking the time or wondering who had called/texted. I chose to be 100% present with my kids, not only because I love being and playing with them, but because their safety in the water is a priority over everything else. It only takes one second for a child to disappear underwater, for my 1 year to run away from her snack and jump in after a toy. Being distracted by my phone at the pool coul be difference between taking home 6 children and losing one. Technology is a presence we cannot escape these days, but we can put it on pause. For everyone heading to the pool today, and any day, put your phone down and be present for your kids. Even if you think they are "good enough" swimmer, accidents happen. So take a step back in time to when cell phones were just a rumor and make memories with your babies. I don't want my kids to remember me as always being hunched over my phone anyway.
