Princess Anne and Sir Tim Laurence’s itinerary for their visit to Vancouver and Victoria, Canada on 3rd-5th May 2024

Below is everything they will be doing while on this official royal visit:

✨ Attend the commissioning ceremony for His Majesty’s Canadian Ship (HMCS) Max Bernays and sail overnight in the ship to Esquimalt

✨ When HMCS Max Bernays enters Esquimalt Harbour, they will receive a 21-Gun Salute from the Black Rock naval battery

✨ Visit the Military Family Resource Centre and meet with staff, board members and service members and their families

✨ Pay respects and lay a wreath at the God’s Acre Veteran’s Cemetery

✨ Visit the archives and collections space of the Maritime Museum of British Columbia, which was founded with an initial donation by Her Royal Highness’s late father, Prince Philip

✨ Visit the FED Urban Agriculture project to learn about local sustainable food practices

✨ Attend the Battle of the Atlantic Commemorative Service at the British Columbia Legislature and lay a wreath

✨ Visit the Royal Victoria Yacht Club and present prizes at the Spring Dinghies Regatta

✨ Visit the Victoria Therapeutic Riding Association and meet with staff, board members, clients, and their families. They will be given a tour of the stables and present prizes.

✨ Meet with Lieutenant Governor Janet Austin and various British Columbia community leaders

The visit by Princess Anne and Sir Tim is being hosted by the Royal Canadian Navy.

Specific dates and times have not been provided by the Office of the Lieutenant Governor for safety reasons and so the Princess Royal can attend all her commitments while in town.

Royal Naval uniform: pattern 1836.

White cotton twill trousers with a satin finish. Fall-front with four metal button fastenings, worn by Lieutenant Horatio James (died 1850), later Commander. The flap fastens with two additional buttons. There is a fob pocket in the waistband. The pocket flaps also fasten with metal buttons, but are separate from the flap. There are four buttons along the top for braces. At the back there is one button on either side of the gusset to secure braces. The central back gusset also had two eyelets on either side with cotton tape to adjust the fit. (NMM).

King George IV died on 26th June 1830. A fortnight later his brother, William IV, ordered that the collars and cuffs of the dress coats of [Royal Navy] commissioned officers should be changed from white to scarlet, that three buttons should be placed under each of the pocket flaps, and that no gold lace should be worn on the trousers. His Majesty also gave breeches a final kick in the seat by decreeing that they should no longer be worn at king's or queen's drawing-rooms. Thus they made their exit from the naval officer's wardrobe.

[...] Trousers, however, remained problem garments. 'Doubts appearing to be entertained' as to when to wear white and when to wear blue, His Majesty was 'graciously pleased to command' that on all occasions of full dress officers should wear white trousers between 1st May and 14th October and blue trousers between 15th October and 30th April. In undress the decision was left to to the weather and the officer concerned, as it had been in the past.

I think I've actually said once that if Norway were to not get along with someone, that'd be France. Ik Scotland and France were on opposite sides during the Napoleonic Wars, but this is the one time where Denmark-Norway is on France's side and I took the opportunity to draw some cool uniforms 🙈 Now, historically, I can just picture Denmark-Norway meeting with France and Scotland for diplomatic reasons throughout the centuries, and France noticing Norway being a bit upset whenever Denmark and Scotland would get along. France wrongly thinks Norway is jealous over Denmark and teases him over it, but then at the end just "ahh don't worry about it, Scotland is with me, he will not steal Denmark from you" and Norway just steaming and unable to say anything.

Freij

Freije Known for their fringed ears, thick dark hair, and natural resistance the frigid temperatures of the north. Freije seals take on a white or pale-blue hue, contrasting against their dark skin. Typically asymmetrical and unique to each individual, they have been widely (and fittingly) remarked as resembling snowflakes and frost, consisting of radial pattern of crystal-like markings.

Matriar The military and naval prowess of Freij is recognized across Elothia, and its Matriar reflects that. As Leader and Admiral, She dons the military vestments of the region, although ornamented and embroidered to indicated Her regal station. She also carries on Her person, just as the officers under Her, a dagger and sabre. Typically these would be highly decorated commissioned works, much like Her chokha and kalpak. However the current Matriar has forgone the tradition, preferring to don and wield the standard arms of her men. As Impero recently saw a Patris leave the throne, Freij is likely to see one on theirs in the coming centuries as the current Matriar has only one son and seemingly no interest in bearing another child.

Czars State officials and Generals to Her Majesty. Much like the Matriar, Czars are outfitted in military garb and keep a dagger and sabre on their person. While still decorated to denote them as officers of import, it is not to the level of the Matriar.

Citizens Despite the high tolerance to the northern climate that they have become known for, Freije are born incredibly susceptible to the cold. Newborns are heavily swaddled in thick furs and kept indoors for the most of their first year. Even when younglings are finally able to be brought outdoors, they do so thoroughly bundled up, almost comically, in several layers of thick clothing and furs.

It's not until adolescense that the Freije's cold tolerance truly begin to build up. They begin to strip away their heavy coats, scarves and furs, and many, many, layers as the years proceed, and by their first century the typical Freije can brush off the low temperatures with far lighter apparel. To the outsider experiencing the bite of Freij's Spring chill for the first time, they may even look underdressed.

In opposition to this are the region's wealthier merchants, barons, and city officials. Setting themselves up at higher altitudes, far above the crowded docks and fish markets, even their natural resistance isn't quite enough to keep out the colder mountain winds. As a result, upper class Draken remain relatively bundled up well after maturing - a fact that's earned the ridicule of many common folk, thinking it make them look childish.
