genuinely curious, how could louis be having a more respectful or open relationship with armand when armand started his whole relationship with louis by luring him towards himself with mind control and by doing away with everyone else (claudia, even lestat) who louis loved? lestat is an easier target to criticise because he opens himself up for that, but the implication that the armand/louis relationship is somehow built on better foundations doesn't make sense to me
MY FRIEND these are some very excellent points LOL.
Tumblr media
If this is in reference to the post I made yesterday I want to qualify first of all that I did say in the post that “even though it's LMAO ALSO QUITE FUCKED UP but it's VC so heyyyy” and I also did say I was edging a little bit into headcanon territory so I want to ask before we continue that everyone buckles their seatbelts and gets ready to accept VC lore & canon as “People who live for a very very long time and have more space for atonement and forgiveness in their relationships because they have TIME for it where regular humans typically do not.”
On that note I’m also not interested in denying that any of the ships in VC aren’t somewhere on the scale between “toxic” and “abusive” LOL so like. No excuses here!!!!!!!!!!! Armand killing Louis’s daughter/lover is Not Great LOL but I wanna get into why I still think this is better than what he had with Lestat. (If it helps, please remember that I'm not a big Lestat fan so basically you just can’t do worse imo, take me with as many grains of salt as you need.)
So Armand and Lestat are both traumatized abused people who are doing their best and tend to fuck up. Because I think at the end like, VC is ultimately about how people just want to be loved, and I think one of the big themes of the books is that, by making all of these characters terrible people, we still always ask like, do our worst deeds define us and are we still worthy of being loved?
(Cut for length YA REALLY GOT ME GOIN ON THIS LOL)
On Armand’s end sometimes I think about like how we see this progression in the way he treats his lovers (starting with Nicki, leading up to Louis, then Daniel) and alongside we get some insight to how he treats his human pets (Denis, (also Daniel), and then Benji & Sybelle.) He grows a lot and it feels like his emotional growth is super stunted when we meet him in TVL because he’s like this feral cult creature who has not been allowed his own identity or feelings for hundreds of years and it takes meeting Lestat to inspire him to cut the shit.
Even then, freed from the cult, he stays with the theatre. It’s this baby step of like, not feeling he needs to adhere to weird religious zealotry that he doesn’t quite believe, but also not exactly ready to be independent or live his life without the role of the leader. (He learned this from Marius lmfao.)
When Lestat meets Louis, from what he tells us, he loves him immediately because he’s ? beautiful and grumpy? And Louis lets us know that it was because Lestat wanted his home. (Put a pin in this because it goes towards the WHO WAS LYING drama between the two of them because I don’t put it past Louis to make excuses like that instead of being truthful about their feelings.) Lestat is freshly bereaved and super traumatized. He’s also an abuse survivor, caring for his ailing abuser, and it’s very normal for abused people (especially children) to try to CONTROL others so that they feel some sense of control over their lives. Lestat isolates Louis, lies to him, babytraps him, and in all their years together—even times when they’re being otherwise kind to each other—he never gives Louis the answers he needs. Lestat also has drunk from Marius and Akasha at this point and knows how it works to drink older Blood and boost your power, and he never offers it to Louis. He even knows Louis is so weak that he doesn’t even have the Mind Gift. We know from later canon that Louis never drinks from other vampires until Merrick so we know that Lestat never shared his blood and that he kept Louis weak and dependent on him as a means to possess him.
(If we get into later canon I also want to point out other ways in which Lestat treats Louis like an object, comes and goes in Louis’s life as he please, expects Louis to be there when it’s convenient, and doesn’t seem to care that people have entire lives when he’s not around. It’s like having object permanence for other people.)
When Armand meets Louis, though, I just think there’s this moment of spiritual growth for him and he SHARES it with Louis. Whether Armand nudged him to get him there at all, I think it goes towards Armand being imperfect and reckless with people but I don’t think it makes his love and admiration less real. Armand at this point (that we know of) has never been in a respectful relationship with someone who loves him, so I really don’t think he knows how to behave. So Armand, like Lestat, is a wounded abuse victim and his bad behavior shows it in some ways, but there’s a mutual respect between them even though they got off to a rough start. Louis shows up and treats Armand like a person, and respects him, and gives a fuck about things, and Armand wants that. He’s spent the past whatever fuckin 400 years in a cult or in the theatre with these useless tools and Louis walking into his life is like such a breath of fresh air. A REAL PERSON! And it’s kind like the way Marius was Armand’s first vampire, this like elegant man who lived like a regular person, and then when he meets Lestat it reminds him that they’re allowed to live like real people, and then Louis shows up and he’s doing the same but he’s this like, softer version of those two idiots who might actually be his friend.
And on the flip side, on Louis’s end, he’s a bit broken & despondent for the early parts of his relationships with Armand and Lestat both. I think this parallel is important because we can see the way Armand and Lestat each respond to it, even if Louis isn’t completely present.
Lestat: lies to him, isolates him, controls him, etc blah blah mentioned all this already.
Armand: Cares for him, travels around the world to show him things and learn with him, and most importantly at THE INFAMOUS GRASS EATING BREAKUP SCENE, Armand accepts it and LEAVES. He’s like, do you need anything else? Bye.HE LEAVES!!!! He sets Louis free when Louis wants to be free!!!!!!! I’m bawling lmao
That just shows me a lot about the way each of them treat Louis and whether they see him as an object/accessory or not or something to be controlled. A lot of this is like very subjective reading because it’s kind of subtextual/off screen but I think these parallels are important and it’s important to compare Lestat & Armand’s differences and similarities here.
BUT WAIT
I HAVE MORE TO SAY
I think it’s important to look at the way the story frames love/abuse and like the way we sometimes love our abusers. And like this is something I’ve talked about at length before so don’t let me add an extra 10k to this post LOL but like I think IWTV does a great job at like portraying the messy feelings after an abusive relationship and how much you mourn the IDEA of the person even when it doesn’t match reality. (It’s something Anne kinda got sloppy with in the later books and I’ve complained about it a ton but I think it’s shows a lot of goodness and strength in Louis to see the good in Lestat even when it’s an I CAN FIX HIM victim mindset.)
Like  the first half of the book we get to see how much he dislikes Lestat, he’s NOT charitable in the way he talks about Lestat, calls him a fool etc lol, and yet the moment Claudia rescues him from that relationship, he spends the next quarter of the book mourning Lestat and feeling guilty about the way it ended. He also starts really seeing that Claudia is a monster and his feelings towards her become very complicated.
SO MY UNPOPULAR OPINION HERE is that Claudia was ALSO quite abusive to Louis. The power dynamic between them is fascinating, because she’s small and dependent on people for help navigating the world, and yet she has Louis COMPLETELY under her thumb because she knows how to push his buttons and weaponize his own guilt against him.
In that light, you can also view Armand disposing her as another way he’s been liberated from an abuser.
Of course the complication here is like, she was ready to head off with Madeleine so it’s possible that they could’ve just broken up like regular people and she didn’t have to die LOL. Oops!
But the way he checks out mentally after he loses Claudia isn’t unlike how he checks out after he loses Lestat. And again this is a parallel—Claudia keeps him around and continues to use him, and Armand actually cares for him and shows him respect. (AT LEAST I LIKE TO THINK SO LOL.)
Was KILLING CLAUDIA the best way to resolve this? Probably not. But we’re gonna circle back to Armand being a messy & imperfect person who is trying his best to learn how to behave. I think there’s a few things here that are pretty telling:
-       He also kills Denis (who, while not as close to him as Claudia was to Louis, still perhaps they are framed in the text as these children/pets)
-       He spends half the convo with Louis telling him how most vampires are useless and can’t survive immortality. I think he looks at Claudia and immediately knows she isn’t going to survive, and so I wonder if his approach has the mentality of euthanizing a pet.
-       HE CUT OFF NICKI’S HANDS AS A METHOD OF CONFLICT RESOLUTION LMAO
(Were he and Nicki lovers? Stay tuned, don’t let me talk about that right now, but I think he loved Nicki so if he treats people he LOVES like that, if he thinks the resolution is tough love and to euthanize pets. Well. ??? )
Listen he is my son he’s done nothing wrong.
I think Louis and Armand must have had plenty of time to talk through all of this. They were together for a super long time! Louis’s entire attraction to Armand began with the idea that he could learn about their kind and have meaningful conversations. I can’t imagine a version of them where Louis didn’t understand this about Armand, and even though he’s devastated that Claudia was killed, I wonder if it’s the same way he was devastated when he thought Lestat was dead. He’ll be okay, he’ll get over it lol. It’s the guilt talking.
Anywhoo.
I’m gonna stop here because this is getting ridiculous but like I’VE ONLY GOTTEN INTO PART I OF LOUIS/ARMAND. I was talking in my post about IWTV era L/A and tried to focus MOSTLY on IWTV information even though some extra series-wide context popped up but like. This isn’t even getting into when they try again in THE 21ST CENTURY with a Post-Merrick Ultra Louis.
Part II: TRINITY GATE ERA , after they’ve both been further traumatized, have each attempted suicide, and can come together in peace in the modern world. Armand has had even MORE practice being human with Daniel, HAS LOVED & LOST, and Louis…………… Anne didn’t really tell us that much about him tbh but we know he was having a rough time and feeding on drunk people on purpose so idk man. Lestat is bouncing around harassing him and David and it just feels like Trinity Gate is this oasis, this quiet space where people can go when they need a Lestat break.
(also please omg Ultra Louis has mind gift like that will make it so much easier I’m BAWLING)
Look they’re a great ship I love them so much.

So as a fandom we are going to have to talk about how to spread the word about harmful or racist tropes and their alternatives.
Like, Nicky in the Templar uniform or wearing the Templar cross is going to come up in fanart A Lot. It’s one of the big distinct visuals the comics give him, and a lot of fanartists are going to watch the movie, maybe read the comic books or look the fandom up on Instagram, and draw that outfit. It’s very unlikely that they’ll comb through the Tumblr tags and read all our meta about how it’s historically inaccurate.
I think that it would really help to view this as a recruitment issue. As in, there are a lot of people out there who want to engage with this fandom; we want to reach out to them and say, “Hey! We’re glad you love this thing! Please let us tell you about ways to do it that are more positive!”
It’s about viewing people who don’t know what’s going on as a natural and inevitable part of the process, instead of getting mad about how they SHOULD have known. If we focus on proactive recruitment instead of yelling at people after the fact, we can get ahead of the momentum instead of dragging behind it. That’s why I’ve spent so much time writing up historical resources for other people to use in their fanworks; I think it’s better to give them the tools they might not have than to yell at them for not using those tools.
So I think we can help spread the word by being positive about the efforts people have made, letting them know it’s a problem, and then offering tools to help them improve.
That means:
Making and promoting informative content about what the issues and alternatives are
Engaging people in a friendly way and treating them like members of a community you want to be part of
Encouraging them to create content that uses the tools and information that are already out there
Promoting and boosting fanworks that handle these issues well, to show other people examples of good work and reward people who are already doing it well.
Like, you could commission a fanartist to draw Nicky and Joe in historically accurate clothing (ie. not the Templar cross), or with modern clothing that reflects his Catholic and Genoese background in a natural and realistic way (eg. Nicky in a Genoan football jersey or with a St Christopher medallion).
You could encourage fanficcers when they write Joe as thoughtful, educated, worldly, or tolerant, because it’s a great contrast to how media usually depicts Muslims.
You could help make resources on the issues and alternatives easier to find, perhaps by linking an author to a resource relevant to the work they’re doing, reblogging resources for your followers, or helping make roundups or directories for different subject areas.
This is more work than the average person does for fandom, because it’s actively creating a social space and group ethos. It’s the kind of work I’m more used to because I have friends who edit fannish wikis, post newsletters, run ficathon events, or help code AO3. But in my experience, it’s the kind of extra work that turn fandoms from good to great.

Meet The Furys
Characters: Erik Stevens x black!reader, Nicky Fury x daughter!reader
Summary: Its time for your dad to meet your boyfriend.
Warnings: None
A/N: Based off this imagine. After almost a year its finally here! I hope you all enjoy it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Okay, remember to play nice. My dad can be intense.” You warned Erik before ringing the doorbell.
“As long as he ain’t on some fuck shit.” Erik was already not too fond of the work your father did.
“Erik!”
“Aight, I’ll be nice.” He changed the tune of his story when he saw the crazy look in your eyes.
The front door opened and revealed Tony Stark. “What are you doing here?” You asked shoving the cake in his hands.
“Nice to see you too, kid.” He kissed the top of your head. Despite your love-hate relationship, Tony was like a big brother to you. Actually, all the avengers were like older siblings to you.
“Stevens.”
“Stark.”
Erik and Tony greeted each other. Neither one liked the other. You believed it was because there was no room big enough to hold both of their egos.
“Please you two, no arguing today. I got enough to worry about.” You continued to venture into the house.
“Erik, my man!” Sam came up and clapped Erik’s hand and gave him a one arm hug. “What you been up to?”
Tony leaned into you and asked, “Why doesn’t he greet me like that?”
You rolled your eyes and turned over your hand. “You know why.”
“Shit, nothing. I’m just out here trying to survive.” Erik ended the clap with a snap. He hit Sam in the middle in the chest. “I see you hitting them weights. You out here trying to get swole?”
“Nah, man I’m trying to get like you.”
“Trust me you don’t wanna be like him.” You interrupted the nigga-fest before it went too far.
“She’s always hating.” Erik whispered to Sam. “I’ll get at you later.”
Erik followed you throughout the house. The two of you constantly stopping to greet everyone. Eventually, you made it outside to see your dad at the pit.
“Hey Daddy!” As you reached up to kiss his cheek, you had to restrain yourself from hitting Erik when you heard him mumble, “I’m the only one she calls daddy.”
Nick put the spatula down and hugged his baby girl. “How is it possible you get more beautiful every time I see you?”
“I get it from my daddy.” You boosted his ego. “Anyway, there’s someone I want you to meet.” You tugged on Erik’s hand to bring him next to you. “Daddy this is Erik, Erik this is Nick Fury.”
Erik stuck out his hand to shake your dad’s. “Nice to meet you, sir.”
Nick looked at the young man’s hand for some time. Before everything went down in Wakanda, Nick heard of Erik or better yet Killmonger. He wanted to bring him into SHIELD, but decided he was too volatile and stubborn for the organization. Now that same man is dating his baby girl. Fate had a cruel sense of humor.
“Hmmph.” Nick looked Erik up and down before shaking his hand. “You treating my daughter right?”
“Yes, sir. I’m the one you should be checking on.”  Erik rubbed up and down on the bicep you hit him on earlier. “She’s always hitting me.”
“Don’t act like you don’t deserve it. You always testing me.” You bucked at him.
Erik was about to mush your head, but he remembered his surroundings and that he was supposed to be making a good impression. “See, you got a little thug over there.”
“She ain’t the thug I see.” You knew your dad would be snarky when he met Erik, but you didn’t think he would be going this hard this early.
You saw Sam behind Erik, cracking some joke with Bucky. Quickly, you motioned for him to come get Erik. “E, you wanna go grab a drink and dig into that cake before anyone else can?”
Erik looked to you if it was okay for him to leave. Even though he was already itching to leave he didn’t want to piss you off.
“Yeah, go.” You waved him off. “Me and Daddy need to have a talk.”
With your go ahead, Erik took off. He didn’t know how much longer he could hold his tongue.
Once Erik was out of earshot, you poked your dad in the shoulder and got on his ass. “What was that?”
“What was what?” Nick played dumb as he flipped the burgers.
You flicked your dad’s ear and quickly got out of arm’s reach. “That elitist nigga bullshit you just pulled by calling Erik a thug.”
Nick gave you the full Fury glare that was usually reserved for Tony. He pointed the spatula at you. “You got that one free lick. You don’t get anymore.” Closing the pit, your dad came next to you. “And the last thing I wanna be is one of those siddity niggas. I just…I just expected you with someone different that’s all.
“Elitist bullshit.” You mocked him by singing.
He held his hands up in surrender. “Okay, I was a little elitist. I’ll be better, I promise.”
If you consider better as not talking to one another then better happened. The barbecue was tense due to the obvious animosity between your dad and boyfriend. No matter how hard you, Sam, Bruce, and Steve tried to ease the tension, somehow your dad and Erik found a way to throw off-hand comments. And Tony was no help because he liked to add fuel to the fire.
The straw that broke the camel’s back was when Sam complimented Erik’s hair and your dad mumbled, “I don’t know why you young niggas think that’s a good look.”
Erik’s smile before he said anything told you everything you needed to know, and you knew there was no way to stop it. “I’m sorry that your receding hairline made you cut your hair. But hey, you rock that Samuel L. Jackson look.”
“What’s wrong with Sam L? That man got style.” Nick looked at Erik incredulously. He choose the wrong one today. “And while we on the subject of hair. Son, if you can’t grow a full beard then at least have the sense to cut that shit off.”
You almost spat your drink out. Erik’s been using some oils to grow his beard completely and it was working so well, you thought it was full. Leave it to your dad to find the last patch.
“At least I’m not dressed like Shaft. Nigga it’s 85 degrees right now, why you got on that hot ass leather duster for? Ole Little Bill lookin ass with an eyepatch.” Erik refused to be outdone by this old head.
They continued to trade jabs. It was like watching a tennis match when neither player could score. Each jab was hitting its mark. If this wasn’t your dad and Erik, then you would be cracking up like everyone else.
You needed to stop their bickering before it got too far. Out of the two, your dad would be the easiest to stop. “Daddy!” You called out to him, trying to redirect his attention.
“What?!” Both Erik and your dad turned to you. When you saw your dad’s face processing that Erik answered as well, you knew right then and there you would have to kill Erik. You’ll just tell T’Challa and Shuri that he died in a horrible car crash. It would be believable, because that nigga doesn’t know what a speed limit is.
Sam slid out of his chair in silent laughter, Tony spat out his drink and was howling in laughter, Steve’s face flushed red in embarrassment for you, Bucky looked like he wanted to congratulate Erik, Wanda and Nat offered you sympathetic smiles, and Peter was confused to why everyone was in a state of shock.
That shit-eating grin was wiped off Erik’s face when he looked at you. Was it possible to plan your own funeral, he thought.
“Y/N, why did he answer you?” Nick asked his lovely daughter. He knew his daughter was grown and she was most likely doing grown people activities, but that didn’t mean he needed to be blatantly reminded of it.
“Cause I’m her daddy, nigga!” Erik was done playing nice. Nick Fury needed to know he was serious about you and he wasn’t going anywhere.
Tony wiped tears from his eyes. “This keeps getting better and better.” Nat kicked the leg from under his chair causing him to fall.
‘Thank you’ you mouthed to her. Tony obnoxious ass was next on your hit list after Erik.
Standing up, Nick pointed between him and Erik. “Me and you about to have a little talk.”
You tried to follow them inside the house, but your dad stopped you. He said they needed to have a talk man to man.
The longer they were away, the more you worried. For sure, you thought you would hear yelling. Neither one of them were afraid to get loud. Maybe one of em killed the other, you thought. Nah couldn’t be, neither one would go quietly.
Suddenly, your dad’s laughter was wafting through the air and that didn’t happen too often. Rounding the corner was a happy Erik and your dad, laughing with each other like they just weren’t at each other’s necks.
“What is this?” You asked surprised that they weren’t arguing.
Erik came to your side and kissed your temple. “Me and your pops came to an understanding.”
“And that is?”
“None of your business.” Your dad told you, leaving you speechless. Wow, did your dad and Erik have secrets now?
You asked Erik the same question and got the same answer. Erik was your best bet to tell you their secret, so you pinched him to get him to spill the beans.
In less than five seconds you felt a flick to your ear. “Keep your hands off that boy. I forgot how mean your little ass can be.”
You grabbed your ear and looked at your dad in awe. “What the hell is this?! Y’all friends all of a sudden?” You had to be in the twilight zone, because now your dad was defending Erik.
Both men turned to you and simultaneously repeated, “None of your business.” You decided to give up for the moment. You would have to divide and conquer to get any info.
The rest of dinner went really well considering where it started. Instead of roasting each other, Erik and your dad ganged up on Tony and it was your turn to laugh at his pain and suffering.
At the end of the night, it was only you, your dad, and Erik left. On your way out, Erik promised your dad he would come to his poker night and that they could hustle Tony out of some money. These niggas were really best friends now.
Finally, in the car you could try to pry some information out of Erik. Your dad would never tell you what they talked about. He was the king of secrets.
“What?” Erik’s lip slightly curled up when he felt you staring at him.
“What did you and my dad talk about earlier?” You pinched his arm. “And don’t tell me it’s none of my business.”
Erik slid his eyes at you when he came to the stop sign. “Imma handle that ass when we get home.”
“Promises, promises.”
Erik shook his head at you. He contemplated telling you the truth and decided to give you an abridged version, because he knew your ass wouldn’t stop bugging him until you got something. “All you need to know is that we both have your best interest and love you. Anything else you wanna know, you gotta ask your pops.” Taking the hand that was intertwined with his, Erik kissed the back of your wrist.
That answer would have to do for now. Just like Erik said you could get the rest from your dad with a lot of  begging and honestly, Erik might tell you more, because either way you looked at it you were daddy’s little girl and neither one of them would want to disappoint you.

Take Me Back to the Start | (10/10)
Title: Take Me Back to the Start Summary:   Everyone remembers their first love. Not everyone carries those feelings from childhood to senior year. Yet Brock is starting his last year of high school while still longing for the relationship he lost five years ago. Meanwhile, José is at the top of the food chain and seems to have it all together. But maybe their story isn’t over yet. Word Count: ~3k (this chapter) / ~31.4k (total) Relationship(s): Branjie (Brooke Lynn Hytes/Vanessa Vanjie Mateo), Sportsdoll (Jan Sport/Nicky Doll) Rating: E
read on ao3 | ko-fi
Brock stared at himself in the vanity mirror. He wasn’t sure what he was waiting for, maybe a sudden burst of energy, of enthusiasm, something to alleviate the knot of anxiety in his stomach.
Then José walked in with timing so perfect, Brock momentarily wondered if the universe had literally answered his prayers. “You ready for this, big guy?” he asked, placing a gentle hand on his shoulder.
“As I’ll ever be,” he replied, placing his hand on top of José’s for a moment, then turned to face him. “But now I’ve got my good luck charm.” His tone brightened up as his arms looped around his boyfriend’s waist.
“Who, me?” José batted his lashes innocently, then let out a laugh louder than he intended, needing to clap his hand over his mouth. “You don’t need luck, but I’m glad to give you a boost,” he told him, kissing his temple.
Brock grinned fondly. “I always need you, baby,” he cooed sweetly. “You need to go take a seat though, I’m up any minute now,” he said, sharing a quick kiss before José left to take his seat in the audience.
The performance itself was a bit of a blur for Brock. He knew he was nailing every move (or at least hoped he was), but it didn’t feel like he was on stage. It was calm, like he was alone in the studio, headphones in and the world tuned out. This was his zen, his happy place. It was one of the only things in his life that he was unequivocally confident in, for better or for worse.
And when he was done, he still had a rush of endorphins washing over him. Brock had never quite understood what people meant when they described something as ‘as good as sex,’ but he could now comfortably admit that while sex won out, this was definitely close.
He went to the bathroom, splashed some water on his face, and looked at himself in the mirror. That was it. It was over. Win, lose, or draw, there was nothing he could do to change the impending outcome. And waiting was the hardest part.
“All competitors please return to the stage.”
The loudspeaker announcement was repeated a couple more times as the dancers made their way back to the stage. Everyone was full of the same nerves and anticipation, but Brock could hardly focus on anything, even when awards were being given out. All he could focus on were people moving across the stage to get their awards.
“And first place overall goes to…”
Brock had already come to terms with not placing. All the confidence he’d had during his performance had inexplicably dissipated. He was practicing his ‘I’m okay, I just need to try harder next time’ speech in his mind. He could get over this, it wasn’t the end of the world, he just–
“Brock Hayhoe!”
Nothing had ever snapped him back into reality faster. He nearly tripped over himself as he walked up to get his trophy, beaming broadly. Now, he was wondering why he’d doubted himself at all. He hadn’t been delusional during his performance, it was a culmination of everything he had been working for. He deserved this, and damn it, he was going to enjoy his moment.
And when he was finally allowed offstage, Brock ran right to where his mom, coach, and José were waiting. The only thing better than having this moment was sharing it with the people he loved. “We did it!”
“You did it.” Anna smiled with pride. “You’re the one that put in all the effort and hard work. We helped along the way.”
“And I couldn’t have done it without that help,” he replied as a compromise. He was too elated to argue, and moved right on, giving them all a hug, and José a big kiss on the lips.
“Let me see this shiny prize.” José grinned, picking up the trophy. “It’s gonna fit real nice in that spot you got saved for it,” he mused. “You sure as hell earned it.”
Brock chuckled softly, leaning down and kissing his cheek. “I told you, you’re my good luck charm.”
José grinned as he pulled his jacket on and handed Brock his. “The argument’s getting pretty compelling, I’ma give you that,” he admitted, leaning into his boyfriend’s side when the taller teen wrapped his arm around him, and stayed close as they made their way into the parking lot and said their goodbyes to Anna.
------
Brock had been riding the high of winning the competition well through Thanksgiving and into early December. He was finally able to quell the harsh voices in his mind that filled him with doubt and anxiety. Every time he looked at that trophy, front and center on his shelf, he was reminded that finally, everything was paying off just as he’d hoped.
And José’s voice was louder than all of those negative ones anyway. The two of them remained nearly inseparable, both of them watching TV in Brock’s room when suddenly, Joan called them downstairs. They jumped up and raced down – she was clearly either excited or concerned based on her high-pitched tone.
“What’s going on?” Brock asked.
She handed a large envelope to him. “You have mail.”
“It’s from the Boston Conservatory,” he read, his voice suddenly hushed. “I applied for an early decision,” he explained to José. His logic had been that he would only do that for his top choice. That way, if he got in, he got the decision making out of the way early, and if he didn’t, he would have more time to work on a new plan.
“It’s big, that’s a good sign,” José offered.
“You think anything big is a good sign,” Brock retorted, making sure he whispered soft enough for his mom not to hear. With a deep breath, he opened the letter, but closed his eyes as he took the piece of paper in the front out. He kept his eyes shut for another moment before finally reading his fate. “I… I got in,” he said before it really hit. “I got in!”
“You got in!” José was much louder, hugging him tightly.
Joan put her hand over her heart as she looked on with pride. “I can’t believe you’re moving across the country, I’m so proud of you. Oh, I’ve got to go call your grandmother,” she remarked gleefully as she went into the other room.
But José’s enthusiasm started to die down. “You’re moving across the country?”
“Well, yeah, that’s where Massachusetts is,” he explained as they went back to his room and sat down on his bed.
José shook his hands out and tried to hype himself back up. This was Brock’s moment, he wasn’t going to ruin it over those details. “Cool, yeah. I’m happy for you. I knew you was gonna get into a good school.”
“José, I…”
He shook his head, already feeling guilty because Brock didn’t sound so excited anymore. “No, no, we ain’t doing this right now. We’re celebrating you. Because I’m happy for you.” His voice eased from defensive to sincere, his expression softening. “Because I love you.”
Brock’s expression relaxed into a smile. “I love you too.” He took both of José’s hands into his own. “And we’re gonna celebrate, okay? We’ll go out for dinner, see if we can convince my mom to let us have some champagne.” He started to kiss along his jawline as he spoke. “Then we’ll come back here and celebrate in our own way.”
José didn’t mean to laugh, but he thought it was cute how Brock was just trying to distract him. And he let it work, he had no reason not to. He knew they would have to sit and talk about their feelings eventually, but that could wait. Maybe if he waited long enough, Brock would forget about it entirely.
------
Brock sighed, strumming his fingers against the table and sipping his iced coffee. If there was one thing he needed, it was to talk to his friends, especially since Courtney and Steve had been on this relationship journey with him from the beginning. “I just feel bad, you know. I get how he feels, getting into this school is everything to me, but up until that, he was everything to me. I just don’t know where to go from here.”
Courtney frowned and scooted her chair closer to him, putting a hand on his shoulder. “You’re still gonna go, aren’t you?”
“Of course, that’s not even a question.”
“Good,” Steve chimed in, “because we were both ready to kick your ass all the way from here to Boston.”
Courtney nodded in agreement, but quickly went back to being concerned. “Have you guys talked about it yet?”
“Not yet,” Brock told her. “I will, I promise. We just both kind of came to the conclusion that we didn’t want to let that sour the mood. He knows I know that something wasn’t right, and that we have to work things out. But I have faith, I’m not too worried.”
His friends nodded in understanding; even if they wouldn’t outright say it, they had become invested in the final outcome as well. “When are you seeing him next?” Steve asked.
Brock glanced out the door of the Starbucks. “I’m actually going right to his place from here, wish me luck.” He hugged both his friends before he got up. “Oh, wait,” he paused, texting José, then getting back in line shortly after.
So the first thing he did when José let him inside was hand him his coffee. “See? I told you I knew what your usual was.”
José took a sip, then gave a signal of approval. “You did good, baby. You did good.” He gestured to him to follow upstairs and they went into his bedroom. He sat cross-legged on his bed and looked up at Brock expectantly. He knew what was coming, neither of them said so, but it was a gut feeling.
And Brock knew exactly what José was thinking, so he saw no need to beat around the bush. He spun the desk chair around so when he sat, they were face-to-face. And with a deep exhale, he ripped the bandage off. “I know you’re upset that I’m going so far away. Let’s talk about it.”
He didn’t think he would ever get used to how comfortable Brock was with being blunt with him. It was a relatively new development, considering how long they had spent dancing around their feelings. It was jarring – he was usually the one to take the ‘no bullshit’ approach. “With you bein’ all the way across the country without me aren’t you gonna forget about me? What’s gonna stop you from moving on?”
Brock frowned, the sadness in his boyfriend’s eyes absolutely crushed him. “I couldn’t forget about you if I tried, and believe me I’ve tried. In case you’ve forgotten, I couldn’t forget about my feelings for you after five years, I think I can make it a few months at a time.”
“It’s different, B,” José insisted. “We still saw each other almost every day, even though we didn’t talk. When you’re in Boston, you’re gonna meet all kinds of cool East Coast people… maybe you won’t need me anymore.”
“Oh, baby…” Brock frowned and cupped his boyfriend’s face. “I don’t think you understand just how incredible and unique you are. I could travel across the whole world, meet new people every day, and I know for a fact that no one will ever hold a candle to you. You are so special, you always have been.” He placed a kiss to his forehead before pulling back. “Do you have a college plan yet?”
José looked down and away, shaking his head. “I dunno if I’m the college type, boo. Maybe community college. My mama wants me to go to a trade school, learn some practical shit like plumbing or welding or whatever.”
“And those are both great options if that’s what you want to do,” Brock assured, then paused. “What do you wanna do?”
He laughed humorlessly, chewing on his lip. “You really wanna know?”
“Of course.”
“I wanna go to beauty school.” It was the first time he had actually said it out loud, but if José could confide in anyone, he knew it would be his boyfriend. “You know, do hair and makeup and all that… but it ain’t easy to make a living off of that.”
Brock moved to sit next to him on the bed. “If that’s what you’re passionate about, that’s what you have to do. If you want to be a makeup artist, I know you’re gonna be the best makeup artist around. You always give your all with everything you’re passionate about.”
José looked at him with a soft smile and a glimmer of hope in his eyes. “You think so? ‘Cause, I mean, I could look for schools out there, don’t really matter what state I get licensed in.”
“Now we’re talking,” he encouraged. “We could get an apartment together, it’ll be cheaper than room and board. I mean, it’s a big step, but…”
“No, wait, I like the sound of that,” José brightened up. “You and me in our own little place, being all domestic and shit… That’s real cute, I see that for us.”
Brock wrapped an arm around him and kissed the top of his head. “You don’t have to commit to anything yet. You’ve got plenty of time, but now you know that you’ve got options, that we can make it work.” He ran his fingers gently through José’s hair. “And if you decide you don’t wanna make that move, we’ll do the long distance thing. We’ll have phone calls and FaceTime, we’ll be able to meet up at every break.”
José tossed his now-empty cup in the trash and laid down, tugging on Brock to join him and cuddling into his side. “Truth is, I don’t see any future without you in it. I know we haven’t been back together all that long, but… I dunno, I just know, you know?”
“I know.” He chuckled lightly. “I feel that too. Like… it feels fast, but fast is the right speed.”
“Could be ‘cause we already put in four years of work,” José mused. “You know, built the foundation.”
Brock held José close and kissed his forehead. “We have a great foundation. Sturdy,” he hummed.
------
José let out a frustrated huff. “Will you fucking hold still?”
“I’m trying!” Brock insisted. “I’m not used to things poking me in the eye like that,” he whined, doing his best to keep his face and body still so José could keep going.
And he did appreciate the effort, holding Brock’s head steady with one hand while he continued the eye makeup with the other. He had already come far too close to completely messing up the eye, and he wasn’t about to risk anything now that he was so close to getting this second eye. “Oooh shit, this is looking real pretty. Definitely the best eye look so far.”
“I can’t wait to see it,” Brock hummed.
“You’re gonna love it. Now shut up so I can do your lips,” José said as he set the brush and palette down and picked up the lip liner. “I’ma try to overline it again, I watched more tutorials so I think I can get it right this time.”
Brock didn’t want to disrupt him again, so he just stayed completely still while José continued with his masterpiece.
“Okay, just needs setting spray and it’s done,” José announced, spritzing over his boyfriend’s face, then taking a step back to admire his handiwork. “And that’s it, go on and take a look.”
Brock opened his eyes right away and looked in the mirror. “Oh wow, babe, this came out so good,” he beamed brightly. “I am so impressed, you’re really getting better each time.”
“Good, gotta build up that portfolio,” he hummed, grabbing his phone. “Alright, look at me and give me fashion.”
“Fashion, got it,” he giggled, then did his best to give a ‘model’ pose while José took pictures.
José gave a nod of approval when he decided he’d gotten enough options. “I think that’s a wrap,” he hummed. “You’ll help me pick which ones to send to Courtney, right?” After Brock had explained José’s new endeavor to his friend, she had offered to edit them to enhance his portfolio even more. So far, he had built up a decent repertoire, as he was lucky enough to have plenty of friends – and a very supportive and patient boyfriend – that were happy to be painted by him.
“Of course. I say we pick a top three at most, that should be enough to work with,” Brock suggested as he got up. He wrapped his arms around José’s waist. “I am so proud of you, you’ve really dove into this, and any cosmetology school is gonna be lucky to have you.”
“Couldn’t have done it without you,” José beamed. “Literally, couldn’t afford all this fuckin’ makeup on my own,” he teased, then looked up at him sincerely. “No, but really, thank you for believing in me, I knew you had to be the first person I told for a reason.”
Brock ruffled José’s hair lightly. “There should never be any doubt in your mind that I believe in you more than anything. You’ve supported me through so much when it comes to my dreams, now, I’m just happy I get to do the same for you.”
José leaned his head against Brock’s chest, holding him close. “We make a good team, don’t we? Hopefully we can keep being a good team in Boston.”
“Don’t worry, babe,” Brock smiled, rubbing his boyfriend’s back, “even if we can’t, it’ll take a lot more than three thousand miles to break up this team.”

Jorge Lorenzo talks joining the Repsol Honda Team
11 years in MotoGP™, winner of five World Championships, 282 races, 31 years old. Jorge Lorenzo starts a new challenge in 2019 when he joins the Repsol Honda Team. Just over two months before the season gets underway in Qatar, the Spanish rider gives his first interview to analyse his initial impressions of the Honda RC213V, talk about what it means to be part of his new team and outline his ambitions for the year.
How do you like the new colours? “I like the colours. My favourite colours have always been white, red and black, and now we can add orange to that. They are colours that represent success, with many victories and many World Championships over the last 25 years. I am very proud to belong to this family and be able to contribute to making the team even stronger.”
What does it mean to you to belong to the Repsol Honda Team? “Repsol Honda may be the most successful team in history. They have the most victories and titles. To compare them with a football team, they would be a Barça or a Real Madrid. There is no team with more titles and more importance worldwide than this one.”
What did you think the first time you tried your new bike? “Last season I rode a completely different bike, that was very big and very tall. Maybe it was a little too big for me. The Honda suits me better in terms of its dimensions. It is more compact, a smaller and lower bike, with which I can lean over better. I felt a little more confident when entering corners, because the closer you are to the ground, the more confidence you have. The first impression was positive and I saw a lot of potential there.”
When you got off the Honda for the first time, you did so with a big smile. What did you think when you entered the Repsol Honda Team box? “In those moments your expression speaks for itself. It’s all very exciting, very new and enjoyable. Also, if the initial feeling is good, you can tell even more from your expression.”
“One of the things that impressed me the most was the responsiveness of the Repsol Honda Team.”
Changes have already been made between the tests in Valencia and Jerez. What were they? “One of the things that impressed me most was the ability of the Repsol Honda Team to react, providing what you ask for. I was quite clear, Honda took note of all my indications and within a few days they had everything ready -and we had a fuel tank almost one hundred percent to my liking.”
You said you were going to learn from Marc Márquez, but that he would also learn from you. What do you think Marc can offer you and what can you provide for him? “All riders have our strengths and our weaknesses. Marc also has them. I will try to learn from his strengths, and I guess he will try to learn from mine. We will push each other; I will want to beat him and he will want to beat me, and that always makes the team grow and helps provide new technical progress for the bike.”
This year the Repsol Honda Team turns 25 and Repsol reaches 50 years sponsoring sports. What does this mean to you? “25 years is a long time. When Repsol began sponsoring the Honda team in 1995 was when I started watching motorcycle racing on television. I remember the fights between Harada and my idol Max Biaggi in 250cc, but also 500cc tussles between Crivillé and Doohan, when Rossi signed for Repsol Honda and when Nicky Hayden won the World Championship in 2006. It’s a very successful team, with many victories and world titles, and now I will have the honour and pleasure of being able to belong to it.
“50 years is an extremely long time. I think that Ángel Nieto was one of the first sportsmen who Repsol sponsored. He was the first in Spain, and the person who boosted the sport in this country. It’s amazing that Repsol were there supporting him at that time.”
The team presentation is on the 23rd of January in Madrid. Is it a day filled with a lot of anticipation? “The presentation will be very special for me. I think it is generating a lot of expectation because combined we have twelve World Championships and many victories. Above all, there is a lot of talent and a lot of speed within the most decorated team in history. The expectation and optimism is great and we are going to enjoy ourselves that day.”
Jorge Lorenzo and Marc Marquez will debut their full 2019 colours alongside the RC213V in Madrid of January 23.

It's noon on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, he's got a pounding headache, and there's not a drop of tea to be found in his eyesore cottage. Nick can survive any cold, last out any fever, but only with a steady stream of hot tea by his side, and a touch of honey for morale boost. He has neither, and the city seems so very far away. Perhaps he can telephone his cousin across the bay--there must be some supply in that opulent mansion--but then the issue becomes of Daisy herself and her fretting and cooing that would no doubt ensue over her darling Nicky. Then there's the threat of Tom making jabs the next time they meet. Nothing worth a cup of tea.
But a quick jaunt over to his wealthy neighbour, who'd offered to reimburse him for favours countless times? That he can manage.
It is not a far walk to Gatsby's manor, though it certainly feels like one, particularly under the beating sun that amplified his body heat the way a magnifying glass can singe a blade of grass. By the time he's reached the front doors, he's noticeably winded, but he gives some effort to fixing his hair and trying to make himself look presentable (hadn't putting on this suit and tie been enough?). Gatsby does not answer; it's some servant or butler who looks less impressed.
"Mr. Gatsby is busy at the moment," he sniffs at his explanation. "You'll have to wait in the sitting room."
So he does because asking this man likely will get him nothing but a haughty look, and sitting down does sound nice right about now, and what else does he have to do anyway?
Nick all but collapses onto the couch, loosening his tie with an exerted exhale. Oh, his throat felt raw, his eyes are heavy. Ten minutes pass, and then another ten. And another. How long would Gatsby be? Had the man even informed him? Going to ask seems too much effort. After another fifteen minutes, he's beginning to feel his illness more, and sleep becomes ever more irresistible. He does lapse into it, while mentally telling himself that is the last thing he shall do no less, falling on his side to lie down properly. The sitting room feels hot, but at least he can rest his eyes for just a moment...

Favors: Part Nine
Pairing: Josh Dun x Reader
Warnings: None
Word Count: 2284
Author’s Note: Sorry about the lack of posts lately, I’ve been struggling with some terrible writer’s block!
You woke up the next morning to Josh’s arms wrapped tightly around your waist. He was still fast asleep, your back pressed tightly to his chest. Doing your best not to wake him up, you uncurled yourself from his arms and slid out of bed, your stomach twisting. Once again, you hopped out of bed and got the advantage of using the bathroom first, also allowing Josh to sleep off more of his inevitable hangover. You decided against doing your makeup now, knowing that you would only have to do it all over again in a few hours for the wedding.
Much to your surprise, Josh was awake when you walked back out of the bathroom. You hadn’t expected him to be awake, so you had neglected bringing any clothes into the bathroom.
“Looking good, Y/L/N,” he smirked at you.
“Shut it, Dun,” you snapped, quickly gathering up some clothes and rushing back into the bathroom.
You pulled on an oversized t-shirt and some athletic shorts which you were really only going to wear for breakfast. Everyone was set to start arriving at one, which meant you would have to start getting ready in a few hours.
It was apparent that Josh had gone for a similar tactic as you walked out of the bathroom. He had pulled on a pair of basketball shorts and a t-shirt, although he had gone back to laying on the bed. His hair was still a bit messy from sleeping, as was yours. You quickly pulled your hair up into a messy bun.
“My head hurts,” he whined, rolling over and burying his head in the pillow.
“Well that’s what you get for getting drunk last night.”
“Aren’t girlfriends supposed to be supportive?” he groaned.
“Aren’t girlfriends supposed to be real?” you retorted. “I think I have some medicine in my bag,” you added.
“You do?” he asked, rolling over and looking at you hopefully.
You shifted some stuff around in your suitcase, looking for the headache medication you had packed.
“Here,” you said upon finding it. “Catch,” you tossed it at him.
He caught it easily and walked into the bathroom, only to reappear a few moments later.
“Thanks,” he said, tossing it back to you.
“No problem. You ready to head down?” you asked.
He nodded and walked over to you, slipping an arm around your waist. You leaned your head on his shoulder as you walked.
Surprisingly, breakfast wasn’t ready when you got downstairs. Laura was in the kitchen, busily cooking some food up on the stove. Bill was standing nearby, working on cutting up some fruit.
“Good morning,” she said cheerily upon seeing you. “Breakfast should be ready in about fifteen minutes.”
“Do you need any help?” you asked.
“Bill and I have it handled, but thank you for the offer! The other kids are in the living room.”
You nodded and you and Josh headed into the living room. Just as Laura had said, Jordan and Ashley were on the couch, half-watching some reality tv show. Abigail had fallen asleep on one end of the couch.
“Good morning,” you said as you walked into the living room.
Josh took a seat on the couch and you sat near him, swinging your legs up over his.
“Hey,” Ashley smiled, “How’d you two sleep?”
“Not so loud, Ash,” Josh whined.
“He’s pretty hungover,” you laughed. “I went to get ready for bed last night and by the time I came back he was out like a light.”
“Same with me,” Ashley smiled. “I barely got into pajamas before I was asleep.”
“How much did you guys drink?” Jordan asked. “I barely had anything.”
“Yay for being the responsible ones, huh?” you smiled at him.
“I have to admit, it’s pretty funny to see what some of the guys get up to while drunk. You should have seen Josh last night. He said some pretty crazy stuff.”
“Please don’t tell her, Jordan,” Josh protested, which only made you more curious.
He moved slightly so that he could rest his head on your shoulder. You tried your best to stay still for him.
“Maybe I can tell you one day,” Jordan said. Josh only shook his head. “Have you met Nickie yet?”
“Yeah, she introduced herself to us last night. She seems really sweet.”
Jordan nodded, “That’s what I thought. Jeremy picked well.”
“No kidding, she’s gorgeous.”
“Your family continues to amaze me.”
“How so?”
“Everyone is just so friendly with one another and likes to be around each other. It’s the polar opposite of my family.”
Ashley smiled, “Well, you’re welcome to be a part of our family any time.”
“I will most definitely be taking you up on that offer,” you laughed.
All of a sudden, Josh started to snore on your shoulder.
“How’s your head, Ash?” you asked.
“I have a slight headache, but I took some medicine so it should go away pretty soon. I mean, I didn’t drink too much last night. How is he?”
“He spent most of this morning complaining about his headache,” you smiled, brushing his hair back from his face. “I had some medicine for him though so it should hopefully get better.”
Laura walked into the living room, “Breakfast is ready,” she announced, causing Josh to wake up.
“What?” he asked, sitting up.
“Breakfast is ready,” you repeated.
He nodded and grabbed your hand. Together, you walked into the kitchen and sat down at the table. Once again, Laura had prepared lots of different types of food for all of you, not to mention that it smelled delicious too.
“This looks amazing, Mom,” Jordan said as he sat down.
The rest of you nodded in agreement. She set out a pitcher of milk and Josh was quick to take it.
By the end of breakfast, Josh was feeling significantly better than he had been at the start. Ashley’s headache was completely gone, and you finally felt fully awake. You talked a lot with Laura and Bill, which helped you feel more comfortable around the family as a whole. Laura even went so far as to mention that she finally felt like she knew you well. It was by far the best breakfast you had had on the trip. Time had quickly slipped away from you and you had spent nearly an hour at the table talking with one another.
“We should start getting ready,” Josh said, nudging you in the shoulder.
You checked the time, and were surprised to see how late in the day it was; you must have slept in later than you thought. You and Josh headed back upstairs to his room.
“You did remember to bring a dress, right?” Josh asked hesitantly.
“Have you forgotten that I always pack the day before?” you smiled. “Of course I remembered a dress.”
“Good,” he smiled.
He walked over and took a seat on the bed as soon as you got to his room. You walked over to your suitcase and dug around for your dress so that you could hang it up.
“Actually, do you mind ironing this for me?” you smiled sweetly.
“Anything for you, love,” he smiled sarcastically.
You rolled your eyes, “Thanks, Josh.”
He took your dress and disappeared from the room. Meanwhile, you headed into the bathroom to start on the process that was doing your makeup. You already had what you wanted to do all planned out, it was just executing it that would be a potential issue.
45 minutes later, your makeup was done, leaving only your hair and getting dressed. You decided to get Josh’s opinion and grab your dress, so you poked your head out of the bathroom to check if Josh was decent.
Josh was asleep on his bed as you slowly opened the door. He looked almost adorable as he was lying there, wrapped up in his old blanket. You considered waking him up, but he looked so comfortable and he was probably still fighting his hangover, so you let him sleep. Your freshly ironed dress was hanging on the closet, so you grabbed it and walked back into the bathroom.
Going from your athletic shorts and t-shirt to a nice dress with an open back was a weird feeling. It had been months since you had to get dressed up for something like this, and you had forgotten how nice it was to get to wear a long dress. Your hair went quickly, since you only had to braid it and pin it up into a bun. One last adjustment of your necklace and pulling your shoes on, and you were ready.
“Y/N?” Josh called softly through the door.
“Yes?”
“I’m going to get changed real quick, so don’t come out here.”
“Ok, let me know when you’re done because I’m ready.”
“Ok.”
You took one last glance at yourself in the mirror while you waited for Josh to get changed. The sound of him shuffling around as he got ready made you laugh a bit.
“Ok, I’m good. I just need your help with one thing.”
You took a deep breath and pushed the door open, walking out into Josh’s bedroom. Josh was standing over by the window, fiddling with something on the front of his suit. The sound of the door opening must have caught his attention, because he was quick to turn around. His jaw nearly hit the floor when he saw you. It didn’t take him long to start looking you up and down.
“Do I really look that bad?” you laughed.
“No, not at all. You look...amazing.”
You could feel color rising to your cheeks, “Thanks. You don’t look too bad yourself.”
“Speaking of which, can you tie a tie?” he smiled innocently.
“I can,” you laughed.
You walked over to him and grabbed his tie. Despite the height boost of your heels, you were still a couple inches shy of Josh’s height. You could feel his eyes on you as you tied his tie, causing your heart to speed up a bit.
“There,” you smiled, giving his shoulder a pat.
“Thanks,” he returned your smile. “Ready to go downstairs?”
“I think so. How’s your head?”
“Barely hurts at all,” he smiled proudly.
“Good to hear.”
He grabbed your hand and intertwined his fingers with yours. Together, you headed down the stairs to where Laura and Bill were in the kitchen.
“Y/N!” Laura exclaimed as soon as she saw you. “You look absolutely stunning!” she smiled.
“Thank you, Laura,” you smiled.
“When are people supposed to be arriving?” Josh asked.
Bill glanced down at his watch, “Any time now. I’m a bit surprised no one is here, actually.”
Josh’s siblings gradually filed into the room as they finished getting ready. You stood next to Josh, nervously playing with his hand. There was the sound of a car door slamming outside, followed closely by laughing. Bill turned and glanced out the window.
“Tyler and Jenna,” he announced.
Sure enough, a few moments later Tyler and Jenna appeared through the door. It was weird to see them all dressed up, compared to what they were usually wearing.
“Hello, Duns,” Tyler smiled. “Y/N? Is that you?” he laughed, squinting a bit.
“Haha, very funny,” you said sarcastically, crossing your arms.
From then on, people continued to arrive until there were so many that you had to go stand in the yard. People were walking around, marveling at one another and making small talk. Eventually, Josh had to go join up with the other groomsmen, leaving you with Tyler and Jenna once again.
“How was Josh last night?” Tyler asked.
“Not too bad. He got upstairs and passed out immediately.”
“He has the tendency to do that when he gets drunk.”
“Alright, everybody! Why don’t we head over to the clearing!” Derek called across the yard, drawing your attention.
“The clearing?” you asked.
“There’s a little meadow not too far into the woods. It’s where the actual wedding takes place. Hasn’t Josh taken you there?” Tyler explained.
You shook your head.
“Well, there’s a little path that branches off from the one to the lake that leads there. Bill had to clear it out awhile back so the girls’ dresses wouldn’t get torn up while they were walking there.”
It was like a procession as everyone made their way to the clearing. The walk wasn’t very long, and it was nice to be out in the shining sun, albeit a bit warm. Thankfully, your dress was loose and flowed with the wind.
You had to hold back a gasp as you got to the clearing. An arch stood at the far end of it, with flower petals carving an aisle through the rows of chairs. Trees ringed the edge of it, almost making the whole place seem mysterious. It seemed so private, despite all the people that were there.
“Where should we sit?” Jenna asked.
“Somewhere on the groom’s side,” Tyler thought out loud, “We should try and find Josh’s sisters again.”
You and Jenna nodded. Tyler was quick to locate a spot to sit, next to Abigail and Ashley, and you and Jenna followed him to it. You ended up towards the middle on the right side.
“Did Nickie ever show you a picture of her dress?” Ashley turned to you once you had made yourself comfortable.
The three of you shook your heads in unison.
“It’s the most gorgeous dress I think I’ve ever seen,” she smiled. “It’s got this lace and long sleeves and just wait until you see it,” she beamed.
Abigail leaned over, interrupting your conversation, “Sounds like the procession is starting.”

Selling Used Panties Online Is Harder Than You Think
Years ago, in her early 20s, Nickie became friendly with one of the regulars where she was tending bar. He always came in with money to spend and would often banter with her, testing her limits in ways that she both welcomed and found exciting.
“He would often say things like, ‘Why don’t you come to my room?’” Nickie, who like other sources in this story asked to remain anonymous in order to protect her privacy, told us in a phone conversation. She often flirted with his propositions but ultimately rejected them. Then, one night, she agreed to a date.
They ate at an expensive sushi restaurant before moving on to a jazz club. Nickie worked at similar places before, but never imagined herself being a patron. After a few drinks and a set spent surreptitiously touching each other under the table, he asked—or, maybe, dared—Nickie to sell him the pantyhose she was currently wearing. With some negotiating, she slipped away to the bathroom and returned with the pantyhose now in her purse. There at the table they made the exchange: the balled up pantyhose for $300 in cash and cab fare.
Even years later, Nickie’s excitement is palpable over the phone. “After I sold him my pantyhose, I felt beaming and proud, I felt like I won something,” she said. “I was like, wow, my pantyhose… someone gives a fuck about them?”
The one-time transaction by a bartender dabbling in sex work with a regular customer offers a stark contrast to the idea, now fixed in our public imagination, of a thriving market for worn undergarments from anonymous women. Movie scenes of “panty raids,” stories of vending machines selling underwear worn by schoolgirls in Japan, subreddits dedicated to buying panties, and even entire purpose-built websites for panty sales all encourage us to believe that used panties are widely-sought fetish objects—detached from the context of a specific person or relationship.

When you add the fact that the internet makes it possible for these transactions to be anonymous, between strangers, some women are beginning to muse about cashing in on their own panties. Could there really be such an easy and low risk way to get your hands on the same money as pornstars dancing in rap videos or strippers holding those stacks of cash on Instagram?
Charlotte Long decided to find out. Over the phone, she told us how she started selling panties: She was a single parent and educator in California, which didn’t quite pay the bills.
“This is so cliché, but I saw Orange is the New Black, and there as a season where [the main character] Piper was selling panties from the prison and making bank doing it,” she said. “I saw that and wanted to do it [too].”
Charlotte set up an ad on Pantydeal.com, a website dedicated to buying and selling used underwear, and sold five pairs of panties in the first week, tripling her grocery budget.
As she interacted with potential customers, she quickly discovered that most wanted panties that were worn for two or three days, so she began layering them under her jeans to maximize her output.

After some initial success, however, Charlotte lost the “new girl attention boost” and sales slowed. It appeared that selling panties alone would not be a sustainable side hustle. In a moment of panic, she reached out to a friend who worked in public relations, and told her that she needed help.
“The education business is killing me, I am selling panties to buy groceries,” she admitted. This admission turned out to be an opening: To Charlotte’s surprise, the friend replied with a confession that the PR firm was a front, and that she was actually working as an escort. She offered to teach Charlotte the ropes.
While Nickie and Charlotte both jumped into sex work by selling used undergarments, many established sex workers started selling panties as an extra product, only after customers repeatedly expressed interest.
“I think I wore them for three days once and then I was like, man, I really don’t think I can do this any longer.”
“Honestly, I don’t know when the first time I sold panties was, but it was definitely related to camming.” Canadian cam model GoAskAlex told us over the phone. “It would have been at the request of someone from cam.”
Similarly, fellow Canadian Melody Kush told us that she started selling her panties because regular clients requested it.
Clip producer and cam model Princess Berpl told us that she started selling panties after talking to regular clients about their desires. She recalls asking one of her clients “What can I do to make this special interaction even more special?” She said he responded, “I really, really like panties.”
In addition to online sex workers, some full service sex workers also see panties as an opportunity to upsell their services. Secondhand Rose, a current phone sex operator and retired escort said she sold panties for the first time during an appointment: “When I was escorting, I had a client who asked me for [panties] awkwardly at the end of our session, more or less in the phrasing of a souvenir of our time together. When it was broached that way, it didn’t seem weird to me, it was flattering.”

Whether part of a dare, a brush with fame, or a keepsake of an experience, panties are often symbolic of something larger—most often, a moment within a relationship. That’s the exact opposite of anonymous encounter with the body of another person. In fact, even on Reddit, Craigslist, and dedicated panty sites, customers often crave interaction. These transaction are an opportunity for clients to express and seek validation for fantasies, or to feel valued. When sales are done locally, there is often an expectation that the seller will meet buyer in a public setting, serving as a de facto date (or, at least, an opportunity face-to-face interaction).
Few panty sales, then, are truly anonymous. To the degree that customers exist who might be willing to make these sorts of anonymous transactions, panty sellers still must compete with other kinds of sex workers who have established brands and clientele. Women seeking to exclusively sell panties may have to do comparably more work per sale than their established counterparts. But what, exactly, goes into making a sale?
The Work
Despite widespread media representations suggesting that sex work, in general, and selling panties, in particular, is a source of easy money, the reality is that this work only seems easy because most of it is invisible.
Charlotte’s background in education did not prepare her for the constant client negotiation of sex work. “I kept falling into these [time-wasting] traps, and I didn’t really have a sex work mentor to teach me these things,” she said. “I had to figure that out the hard way.”
Many of the interactions she had with potential clients didn’t lead to any sales at all; she had to learn when to back out. On the message boards on pantydeal.com, she said that “there were a lot of guys who just wanted to chat all day, and you would do it in hopes of making a sale.”
Berpl tried advertising on Reddit, but said that a lot of the interactions there were would-be customers just “bullshitting.”
“The customers have this desire for panties, but they don’t actually want the real thing,” Berpl said. “A lot of it is time wasting.”
Despite the fact that many customers are time wasters, getting any sales at all requires engaging with everyone. “In order to get successful and consistent sales, you have to jump on every enquiry,” Melody said. While in the past she has asked her viewers who asked about panties to send her an email that she can follow up on when she gets off cam, she has found that this isn’t very effective. Instead, she needed to stop her show, get their email, and make sure to follow up on those requests. “There is no such thing as easy money in this industry,” she commented.

It isn’t simply worn panties that the clients want. They often want them to be worn for a certain number of days, or to be cum in, or to be a part of a video that they also buy. Most of the sex workers that we talked to described wearing the panties for multiple days to be one of the hardest parts.
“Some would ask me to wear them for three to five days,” Alex said. “I think I wore them for three days once and then I was like, man, I really don’t think I can do this any longer.”
Melody said, “I try to be flexible but I have my own rules to abide by so that it doesn’t get out of control. If they want me to wear them for seven days, I tell them it’s a hygiene risk.”
Even just finding time in a seller’s schedule to wear these panties for clients can be tricky. “Finding a strategic time to wear them long enough so that they are to the liking of my customer is the hardest part for me.” Melody said. “Between shark week [when she is on her period] and finding comfortable times to wear them, the scheduling of this is the hardest part.”
For Rose, scheduling is a big part of the reason that no longer takes orders from customers who she doesn’t already have an established relationship with. “It is all a bit hectic to me. The way it works best for me is through clients.”
Nine year veteran MyFreeCams model Miss Lollipop, who has has only sold panties in conjunction with camming, says that she will often make videos of herself cumming in panties prior to shipping them off.
Most of the people we interviewed learned that selling panties isn’t as simple as popping them in the mail and sending them off. “When I first started I wore the panties and sealed them up. I didn’t know you had to dry them out first before you packaged them, otherwise they would get mildew-y,” Berpl said. She went on to explain that they have to be dry, “otherwise all of the bacteria that is on your body gets trapped in the packaging.”
Alex ran into a similar situation. Early in her panty selling career, she had a customer from Florida purchase her panties and she shipped them right before a hurricane hit the region. Mail was stopped for a long period of time, and when he finally got them a few months later, the client said they were a moldy, disgusting mess.
The Money
Prospective panty sellers are attracted to the possibility of a high markup on something relatively inexpensive. But, it’s often not that simple. Rose said, “I don’t think it is as lucrative as most articles in the last 10 years have made it out to be. You have to take photos, you have to wear them. There are logistics to this stuff.”
The established models we talked to generally sell their panties for about $75, though more famous models can charge $100 to $150 or possibly even more. Charlotte plans to return to panty sales when she retires from escorting later this year, and wants to leverage her existing client base, as well as a series of self produced porn clips, to fetch prices in excess of these figures.
But using $75 as a baseline, most of these models make these sales on the platforms they use for other online sex work. These platforms keep around 40 percent of the sale price to cover the cost payment processing and their own profits, leaving models with a payout of approximately $45. Subtract domestic shipping from that, which Miss Lollipop reports is “usually around $5-6” and you’re left with $40 per pair.
Sellers also have to factor in the cost of the panties themselves. Sometimes this can be avoided. “I sell cheap panties or panties I would be throwing out,” Miss Lollipop said.
In some cases, the cost of panties is nominal, but a typical seller will only have access to so many worn-out panties. Ultimately, sellers have to eat the cost of panties, which can be anywhere from $3-15. Once we factor in an average of $10 for the costs of the panties revenue from the sale drops to about $30.
Finally, we have to factor in taxes, which will be around 35 percent for middle income independent contractors, and sellers are left with a net profit of $20 on a $75 panty sale.
This does not include the extras like packaging. Alex customizers her panty packages with nude stickers, wrapping paper, thank-you cards or photos from photo shoots.

Berpl points out that while we can go through the financial costs associated with panty sales, it doesn’t get at the emotional labor that goes into the sales.
“The bigger cost is the cost that it takes to interact with people,” she said. “They will hang on you forever and hang it over your head.” One customer bought a pair recently and and the asked her, “Hey sweetheart, I have a question, what is someone so beautiful like you doing in a business like this?” Having to determine how to handle invasive and inappropriate questions such as these become part of the labor of the transaction.
To avoid having such interactions just to make low profit sales, Rose decided to only sell panties as an add-on item with other services. She has one client who buys a pair of panties from her every month, with a hard copy of an erotic fiction series that he also purchases from her.
“Usually, I don’t have to do anything fancy for him,” she said. “I will pick nice ones, and I change him an extra $50 for them.” Despite the upcharge for expensive panties, she considers the panty sale worthwhile because it enhances other, more profitable services. She says, “I come out ahead because I get paid for the custom story and the phone call before or afterward. And it builds a connection for us.”
The Risk
These transactions all come with significant risks. Safety is major concern for sellers. Rose worries about inexperienced sellers on sites like Reddit. “My heart always goes: ‘Is everyone safe?’ It seems like a vulnerable exposure for both parties,” she said.
Berpl recalled that when she first started selling panties, she didn’t know how to keep her own information safe, and I had to research it—like avoiding going to the post office right next to her home address. Miss Lollipop follows safety precautions like using a P.O. box. Paying for a P.O. box and all driving around to various post offices dips even further into sellers’ bottom lines.
Established, full-time sex workers may already be doing these things, already selling a range of products of high volume, and, this, already absorbing these costs; however, for new sellers seeking to exclusively market panties, purchasing and traveling to a distant P.O. box may be a serious financially obstacle. In sex work, like other industries, there are benefits that come from economies of scale.
Melody explains that frequent trips to the post office can be a problem for another reason: It raises the suspicion of postal workers. Some sellers worry that worn panties could be classified as biological materials and thus illegal to ship. According to USPS, shippers are not allowed to ship anything that contains body fluids. When asked about restrictions to mailing used undergarments, a spokesperson for the U.S. Postal Service told Motherboard that it is “mailable with no restriction unless it’s emitting obnoxious odors.”
Whether there is enough biological materials on panties is probably up for interpretation, but this is something that sellers have to consider. Once when asked what she sells in these tiny packages, Melody panicked and said, “I knit dog booties.”
“There is a reason why people buy panties, it is a real and tangible connection”
But while some things like P.O. boxes are simple fixes, there are other privacy concerns that are more difficult to navigate. Customers sometimes ask invasive questions about sexually transmitted infection status, which are typically reserved only for sexual partners, and, in that sense, begin to treat panty sellers as though they were sexual partners.
“It makes me so uncomfortable that someone who I am not engaged with sexually could blame for me something that they got,” Berpl said. She refuses to entertain these questions. “It doesn’t feel like information I should provide. What they do with my panties is up to them. I am not advertising my panties as something that they can put their dick in.”
Customers may ask other sorts of invasive questions, as well, under the guise of seeking verification that the seller is indeed the one who has worn the panties. Rose found this process off-putting. “I started to wonder if they were going to request a DNA test next. This is, in every way, supposed to be a fantasy,” she said, “and fantasy is not supposed to be verifiable.”
The Fantasy
Most customers’ desire for panties is driven by something more than pheromones or other biological stimuli. Interest in worn panties isn’t just about what they are, it’s about what they represent. Panties are being sold for their symbolic value.
In the most basic sense, panties are a connection to the body of another person. They offer an indirect way to smell and touch and have an intimate sort of knowledge about someone else’s body. “There is a reason why people buy panties, it is a real and tangible connection,” Rose said.
Berpl describes the desire for closeness. “A lot of guys want to wear them to be close to me. They don’t want to be in my shoes, they want to be in my panties,” she said.
Panty sales also facilitate interaction. The process of planning and arranging a sale is not an obstacle but an opportunity for the buyer to be recognized by a person they are attracted to or admire. In this way, panties become a conduit to the other person. The opportunity to have an interaction is an important part of what makes panties valuable for the customer. The sale makes a customer feel visible and known to the seller.

Panties can also act as a keepsake or souvenir that holds a cherished memory. Rose, who previously talked about panties in terms of a souvenir, recalled that the first time she sold panties was when she was working as an escort and had a client who wanted something to remember their evening by. Similarly, Berpl describes panties as “memorabilia” for fans who interact with her online. Miss Lollipop once had a regular wasn’t typically into panties but bought them from her in person at a convention.
“He would not normally spend that amount of money, it was a big deal to him,” Miss Lollipop said. “But he was excited by the fact that I took off what I was wearing at the convention and gave them to him.” The panties were a keepsake from the time he met her.
Panties as souvenirs can represent a brush with fame. It’s a way of connecting to celebrities analogous to an autograph. In this case, the value of a pair of worn panties may also depend on other people’s recognitions of the seller’s prominence. Berpl explained the perspective of her buyers: “I like that you have a following, that is sexy to me that someone is desired and I can have some sort of part of that.“
She said that without fame, it is much harder to sell panties for a reasonable price. “If you don’t have a face on the internet, I think it would be really hard to sell things like panties.”
Melody agrees that a degree of online fame is required for panty selling to be viable: “In terms of actually making a living off panty sales, I don’t think that anyone can actually do that without [having built] a platform. You would need some genius marketing to do that.”

Cheltenham Festival Day Two
Day one delivered in usual fashion with thrilling finishes, upset and disappointed and the odd joyous winner.
A day in which so many leading fancies hit the ejector button, Glen Forza, Buveur D’air and of course Bennie De Dieux.
Reflecting on yesterday’s tips we got a nice winner in the shape of Duc Des Genievres in the Arkle, and a felt a little aggrieved that Atlanta Ablaze falling at 2 out in the National Hunt Cup when going so well, just got hampered on take off by Discorama and had no chance, but that’s racing for you.
Let’s get stuck in on day two.
Ballymore Novices Chase
We start day two with another novice hurdle this time over 2m 5f and this can be a tricky race to decipher.
Start off with Champ who has been progressing really nicely, Nicky has given him a steady journey from his debut over two years ago and he has matured into a fine horse taking the Challow hurdle in an impressive way beating Getaway Trump and Brewinupastorm who reopposes today. I think he has a fine chance but Getaway Trump has not boosted the form and has failed to fire on his latest two starts. So is that Challow win the top form on offer.
Next we have Battleoverdoyen who is a big impressive stamp of a horse and will make a fine chaser has won all four starts to date lately winning Grade 1 at Naas beating Sams Profile who turns up today. Tornado Flyer of Willie Mullins pulled up in that Naas race and I’d of liked to see him give Battleoverdoyen something to think about. He’s done all he can and win and you can’t argue with that, but when tested and today he will be how much can he improve.
Next up we have City Island who if he was trained by a Mullins or Elliot he would be half the price, has won all his hurdles and interesting the race he was disqualified in after finishing first he beat Debuchet and Getareason which ties in with Battleoverdoyen form so I’d say they’re closely match despite their prices.
I can’t fancy Brewinupastorm who was beat comfortably by Champ.
But I think it could be the Mullins Walsh opening race winner in the shape of Easy Game he is a tough hardy horse and looks a little more streetwise in his running than some of the less experienced Novices and has been improving with every run, another who has beaten Getareason so should be as good as any runner in the race.
RSA Chase
Now we turn our attention to the 3m Novices and possible future Gold Cup horses.
All the build up has been about whether Santini would make it after is issues with his shoe and I’m pleased to say he has made it and his price has been firming up overnight and this morning and currently sits 3/1.
He’s a good horse but I was disappointed to see him only third in the Kauto Star at Kempton, to be viaing for favouritism he had to beat Topofthegame.
With Topofthegame who is third favourite generally a 7/2 chance I think he has a good chance a big chasing type and certainly will find the places.
Before I go with the obvious choice in Delta Work id just like to mention if On The Blind Side can match his hurdle form over fences he wins this he is a class act but hasn’t exactly taken to fences quickly and this might be a tough assignment but major each way value.
But I’ll be boring and go Delta Work to take this.
Queen Mother Champion Chase
Well it’s pretty simple it’s .... Altior.
Just need to find that third place horse as I can see Min finishing runner up again,
I’d plump with God’s Own for third as some of the others hate the ground and he is a hardy type who often runs well in this.
Other Races:
2:50 Coral Cup - Apples Shakira (NAP)
4:10 Cross Country - Tiger Roll
4:50 Fred Winter - Praeceps e/w
5:30 Bumper - Blue Sari

Weaver: 'Ederson could probably play left-back!'
Praise from one heroic City shot-stopper to another, injury updates and a ton of transfer gossip. Wednesday’s round-up of Blue headlines provides plenty of variety! Fasten your seatbelts…
Let’s kick-off with a word from a Club legend with Nicky Weaver’s comments on Ederson – how he feels the Brazilian is ‘taking goalkeeping to another level.’
Quoted by Four Four Two (amongst others), Weaver told Omnisport: “I think goalkeeping has changed a lot, football has changed a lot. It’s all about systems now.
“The role of a goalkeeper has changed over the past couple of years – I think it’s even changed over the past few months since the World Cup.

“If you look at City, the way they play out with Ederson. He’s the best I’ve ever seen with his feet. He’s unbelievable.
“The thing with Ederson is not how much confidence he’s got – he’s obviously got lots – it’s how much confidence the players and defenders have in him because they give it back to him under pressure constantly.
“I’ve watching him live quite a few times and he could probably play left-back if he wanted. He’s got such good feet.”
Looking ahead to this weekend’s Premier League action and Saturday’s opponents West Ham have been handed a boost with Andy Carroll and Jack Wilshere set to return for the Hammers, according to the Football Fanbase.
Richard Grant explains: “Wilshere has been recovering from an ankle injury which he suffered during the last week of September forcing him to miss as many as ten games for the Hammers.

“But the summer signing has returned back to full training during the international break and he will be available for selection for the weekend clash vs Manchester City.
“The next player who is expected to make a comeback is forward Andy Carroll who is yet to feature under Manuel Pellegrini this season.
“Carroll picked up an ankle injury in the month of July following which he had to undergo surgery.
“Before the start of the season, the forward was expected to be sold by Pellegrini but his injury halted that move. But now that he is still in the club, the manager will surely use him.
“Wilshere might very well start the match against Manchester City but Carroll is expected to come on as a substitute in the second half.”
In other news, on-loan Daniel Arzani has shared an injury update on Instagram, as the youngster has undergone an operation in Barcelona, having torn his anterior cruciate ligament.
Speedy recovery, Daniel!
Turning attentions to transfer gossip and Sports Mole state City and United are set to go head-to-head in pursuit of Gremio ace Everton, with Daniel Lewis proclaiming that Pep Guardiola has ‘personally stepped in’ to encourage the move.
“The Brazil international confirmed earlier this week that he will consider a switch to the Premier League once the Brazilian football season comes to an end,” Lewis affirms.
“Everton, who leads the scoring charts for Gremio this term, is aware of the rumoured interest from Man United, but South American outlet Radio Grenal suggests that Man City are also now in the running for his signature.
“Citizens boss Guardiola is said to have called the 22-year-old to persuade him to make the switch to the Etihad Stadium in January, though no formal offer has been made by the English champions.
“Gremio president Romildo Bolzan recently revealed that versatile attacker Everton, comfortable playing on the right or through the middle, has a release clause of around £71m.”
Meanwhile, the Mirror claim to have an exclusive update on City’s alleged interest in Frenkie de Jong, asserting the Blues will have to break our transfer record for the Ajax star.
Scribes David Anderson: “Premier League champions and leaders City have made Holland and Ajax star Frenkie De Jong their top transfer target after scouring the world for a top central midfielder.

Unsung hero Delph eyes City landmark: Fresh from being handed the honour of captaining England, Fabian Delph is now on the threshold of another notable landmark as he approaches his 50th Premier League appearance for Manchester City.
“However, Spanish champions Barca are also very keen on De Jong, and several other top clubs are monitoring the rapid progress he’s making this season.
“Amsterdam-based Ajax feel they can demand up to £75m for De Jong because of this growing interest in him.
“That means City would have to eclipse the club record £60m they paid Leicester for winger Riyad Mahrez in the summer.
“Ajax’s hand is also strengthened by the fact that De Jong is under contract with them until June 2022.
“Sources in Holland claim Barcelona are determined to top any offer City make in the battle for the midfielder.”
The same source also suggest City are ‘monitoring’ Sunderland starlet Josh Maja.
Writes Simon Bird: “The youngster is the hottest property in League One after taking his tally to 11 already this season.
“His current form is giving the club a medium term headache with Bristol City interested in a January deal, and Spurs , Manchester City and Southampton monitoring his situation.

“The 19-year-old’s deal ends in the summer. Boss Ross would love him to stay and sign long term, but talks have been going on a while and he has confirmed: ‘There is no update.’
“If Sunderland can’t tie him down soon, a £6m bid might be too good to turn down in January.”
Elsewhere, Spanish journalist Eduardo Inda has told press Isco has received offers from City and Chelsea.
As Caught Offside report, Inda told OK Diario: “They (Real Madrid) consider that Isco is not involved in the group, that he is doing his thing, that he is having problems with his weight… so he is thinking of going to the Premier League.
According to Joe Strange: “The Juventus left back has attracted interest from Manchester City and Chelsea over the last 18 months, while Real Madrid have also kept tabs on his progress.
“Sandro, who is currently with the Brazil squad … insists he is ‘very happy’ at Juve but is ready to leave Serie A at some point in the future.
“However, it appears Sandro is not yet willing to push through a move to the Premier League as Juve target another Serie A title and the Champions League.”
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Sandro declared: “I think, one day, who knows what will happen?
“I have a desire to play in the Premier League but right now I am very happy where I am at, the club I am at [Juventus], the league I am playing in.
“So today my only thought is to continue where I am because that’s where I feel happy.”

So let’s recap the past couple of days because I haven’t for a while I suppose haha.
Had a marathon convo with Nemoss that went from 9am on Monday to 8am on Tuesday rip and because of that I’m currently operating on 1h sleep but I haven’t really felt very tired yet and I think mostly I’m okay, surprisingly.
So this week is the start of like hell study week jam all the notes into your brain type thing but for some reason I don’t feel particularly stressed about it. I have 112 pages of notes to learn so I’m hoping that the stress kicks in soon. I spent most of Monday morning killing time by playing on my phone and pretending to study. I made a study plan and that’s it.
Then at 1pm I got ready for hospy, grabbed a Turkish melt (yom) and found Kate and friends in Dino. They were going to Coog cos it was pretty hot so I waited for them to get ready and walked with them half the way so I could go to hospy. Time to do my SOCA! I was sort of nervous because I it’s a catchup SOCA to make up for the fact that I fucked up the Effective Communications cap so I felt like I had to make it count but didn’t want to be nervous because I felt that would affect my communication with the patient? I like did a quick recap of the history via Google and then met George my assessor. He was super nice and we went to the cardio ward to do it. The first two patients were busy and I almost had to interview a prisoner (which I was not ready to do lol) but luckily the prisoner was asleep. He was with two policemen and I was made really uncomfortable because as a joke when we asked if we could interview him one of the policemen offered to kick him awake and then when he saw our like shocked faces was like “I was joking” quickly and then like laughed but I felt it was awkward because being mean to a sick patient, prisoner or not is kinda rude? Anyway I had the best luck because I ended up interviewing a patient who was a retired nurse so she like knew what I was trying to ask with the history and could fill in gaps when I forgot to ask about things with useful information and she was super friendly so rapport was good. It was probably the most perfect history I’ve ever done, like structure good and everything and it was definitely what I needed to like boost my confidence about the whole situation and remember why I wanna do med and stuff. George was pretty impressed too so I P+-sed my way through the assessment lol. He did say I should’ve been more like relevant with my questions about presenting complaint though, because she was in for breathlessness and I didn’t pick up that that’s a sign of heart failure so didn’t really ask about related symptoms to heart failure. But overall, it was a good history and I was proud of it.
Then I headed up to Edmund Blackett to attend my actual hospital session. We had this nice girl called Emily running the session and she took us to this patient who had serious scoliosis. It was good to practice the hand exam with my newfound confidence and I feel like I really got a lot out of the whole thing. Hei Wai’s history was a bit stilted but it was actually quite good and just the whole thing was good because it’s renewed my confidence for the OSCEs kind of at a good time I feel.
Then I rushed back to college to borrow a charger off Hamish because mine broke and grab Rid’s textbook before tutoring. Tutoring was pretty fun we were doing polynomial division which is fun to like go through the process. Me and Rid both made a stupid mistake with one of the questions and I got so confused lol but overall it was a really good lesson and I really am feeling the bond between myself and all my kids which is just so hard when I think about dropping them next year.
Then on a whim when I got back I thought I’d study on Floor 7 for some company to see if any of my friends were around. It was windy af but stinking hot and Max was holed away in the stuffy stuffy study room but I joined him for like 30min of studs before STUVAC supper! Because it’s official uni study week, Dino feeds us like supper for Mon-Fri this week and J&D do free coffees and honestly it was so lit. Brownies and fresh fruit (for once) and I ripped my undies by deciding I’d drink a large mocha. I knew the coffee would fuck me up but I was just excited about free coffee and toasties and ham and I was talking to Nemo anyway so figured I wouldn’t be like up and insomniac alone. Kate and Vron were there and we actually chilled at supper for a bit because Kate’s finished for the year so she’s so calm and like chill now – like it’s actually a bit freaky how noticeable the difference is when she doesn’t have a single stress cos uni’s over for her. Vron was saying how she needs to sell her clothes cos she’s so poor and I wanted her like nice conservative clothes for hospy so I was like YASSS I’ll come to your room and look.
So we went to hers and I put aside a potential buy pile and she’s gonna bring up more clothes for me to browse next time she comes back from Tamworth. Then we marched up to Kate’s room so I could relieve her of some clothes. I don’t even need more clothes I have plenty I just wanted to cheaply boost my wardrobe and chill with the two of them and procrastinate I reckon. Linley and Hadeel and Nicky G and Claudia joined us in Kate’s room eventually and it was like a whole party!
Eventually we drifted to the commo and I did some actual work but it was getting pretty late by now so I only got through a couple of lectures. Also my computer just blinked out and died and I freaked the fuck out inside a little bit and had to make my notes off Edward Rose’s notes (which I actually think I may prefer doing now anyway lol) but yeah so it took a bit longer. And so I was texting Nemoss about euthanasia ethics because I wanted to show off my tute and I can’t believe he doesn’t like ethics and philosophy cos I feel like we talk that sorta stuff all the time and I was talking just generally to Max and Claudia and Nick and it was such a good time and then we drifted to Claudia’s room and suddenly it was 3am and we were talking some serious shit about annoying people at college (which was really funny because we all agree but can never say) and about how state laws are stupid and some should be federal etc. and then suddenly it was 3:30am and Clauds had fallen asleep with the light on so we thought we should vacate her room and everyone decided to go to bed.
I was still riding my coffee high and had Nemoss so headed back to my floor and omg Riley had vomited all down the corridor. It smelt terrible and he must’ve vomited like 3x down the corridor at least because it reeked and like in a patchy kinda way too. And then I see Riley and I swear I have never seen someone look so fucked in his life he was white as a ghost his eyes were starey and red and he was shirtless holding his shirt in a crumple and there were literally drips of vom dripping off his shirt-ball onto the floor in front of the bathroom. It was disgusting. And he stared at me blankly and then was like ‘Georgia’ and I was like gonna spew from the smell and I was sleep-deprived and like I don’t really like Riley and I was just like rip rip rip I’m gonna bed so I left him to deal with his shit.
His vom was so strong I could smell it from inside my room with the door closed so it was a huge rip. Anyway by then it was getting kinda late to sleep because I had to get up early to meet corky for brekky so I thought I’d just rough it and stay up and like watch my caffeine doses and like crash sometime tomorrow so I was up chilling with Nemoss by phone till 8am when I crashed for an hour.
Corky woke me up by texting me 40min later to see if I was awake to get ready to go to brekky and she’d even researched the bus I had to take and everything I was like wtf. So I dragged myself outta bed and had to shower on the 4th floor because the 5th floor still reeked like shit and I wasn’t entering that bathroom if my life depended on it. 4th floor water pressure is probably the worst in all of college, I discovered, so after an unsatisfactory shower I grabbed my wallet dumped mascara on and dragged myself on a bus to Centennial park.
Queen’s Park Shed was where we ate and it was actually like very small and quaint, not at all what I expected for some reason but it was nice and had just like chill picnic in the park vibes. Corky and I had granola with poached pear and berries and it was like clearly overpriced for $12 for like a bit of muesli, yoghurt and sparse berries but it was healthy, filling and yummy so oh well. I also medicated with a coffee and I reckon that’s why I’ve made it so far tbh. Corky and I had good chats because I haven’t seen her in ages and she was like not as stressed about uni work as usual because she’d purposely like written time off study so we could hang out. It was really really good to catch up and we talked from 10am to 2:30pm in our procrastination type catchup and it was so good we probs would’ve kept talking except I had to get to class by 3 lol.
SG was boring af we watched 2 videos on like bereavement and palliative care. The first was just an explanation of palliative care and the second was following the life of this irish man who had a large stomach sarcoma and was going to die. It was quite emotional but there wasn’t much like discussion on it and as soon as the vids were over we were pretty much allowed to leave. I was so bored and like not coping (but not tired yet, weird) so I let Kuheli like read texts on my phone and it was kind of weird breaching my own privacy like that but at the same time not really caring because I’m just at that stage in my life where I’m really open cos I don’t give like a shit about anything.
After SG we wasted time with Fenton and Nguyen for awhile then Kuheli dragged me to the coffee cart cos she wanted tea. I stayed well away from that coffee cart because I wanted my sleep tonight thank you very much but considering it’s now 1:30am and I haven’t slept it’s all quite moot, isn’t it? And then I bussed off to tutoring with Ella. Kuheli walked me to the busstop which was nice and I almost crashed on the bus but by that time I was dangerously close to my stop so managed to stay awake. Tutoring Ella woke me up too. We made use of the NRICH site link I stole off Wayne when I used to tutor him and we started doing some problem solving. We were only doing extension Year 5 problem solving and she’s year 7 but I felt that like it was easy enough to ease her into the concepts and yet there were still some things which confused her so I think it was a good level to start and maybe we will build on it next time and go a bit up idk. HOWEVER her exams are coming up so I can’t get distracted by my get her to problem solve goals cos she really has to revise all her topics to do well and pass her test like as first priority. Anyway it was nice session and afterwards her Dad dropped me back at Churchies like right near uni so I didn’t have to bus which was so so so fantastic.
I went up to floor 7 because I think whilst I’m studying I should make the most of people being around and soak up some company too and Linley was studying in the study room. I got a decent amount done, but I’ve lost a lotta time due to wasting time on Monday and having breakfast with Courteney like all day today so I’m still behind but not too stressed. Headed down to floor supper and cos I didn’t have lunch or dinner I like went ham and had a double cheese and ham toastie, 2 donuts and fruit and it was honestly so lit. Stayed away from the coffee again though cos I ain’t that mad.
Then back up to the study room and honestly just threw myself into it. Like Max, Claudia and Nicky G were in and out I think but I honestly can’t say what was going on I was so focused. Kate popped in as well and I think her like meeting with Hugh didn’t go great but it was never going to so at least she was a bit prepared? Idk then we moved to the commo again and the chill cycle is repeating again as we speak with the same people. Hamish has lent me his charger again tonight thank god so I have my phone and now that I’ve successfully (and lengthily) recapped the past like idk 48 hours or so, I can head back for some chats before bed. Hopefully I can find the balance between sleep and chills but idk even if I don’t I just don’t wanna rek myself too much. There’s always a bit of coffee tho tomorrow idk.
Off to Woollahra library all day cos I wanna try a change of scene but also wanna get a lot done so should be like nice to go somewhere slightly different to hang for once. Kk that’s all for now, I know this is quite badly written but I don’t have the cognitive function to like fix it up or write it properly or anything on my limited sleep right now, so it will have to do. Till another day J

Kanye West Threatens to Part Ways With Tidal

Kanye West Threatens to Part Ways With Tidal
Jay-Z’s former collaborator threatens to break his deal with the streaming service following a financial dispute.
Just as Jay Z’s exclusive Tidal album 4:44 was certified platinum four days after its release, it appears there may be rancor among at least one of the streaming service’s artist-owners. Reports surfaced over the holiday weekend that Kanye West, one of Tidal’s initial 16 artist-owners, is planning to break his exclusive contract with subscription-based DSP and allow future releases to appear on other music streaming platforms.
A source close to West has now confirmed that Tidal’s exclusivity rights have been terminated based on what is alleged to be Tidal’s failure to honor its financial obligations.
According to the report that originally appeared on TMZ, West claimed that Tidal owes him “more than $3 million” after his album The Life of Pablo allegedly “resulted in 1.5 million new subscribers to Tidal, for which he was supposed to get a bonus but the company hasn’t paid.” The report also claimed Tidal failed to compensate Kanye for his music videos.
Tidal’s position, according to the report, is that West failed to deliver the videos he was contractually required to, and he is still beholden to his agreement. While no lawsuits have been filed, it appears both sides’ lawyers are engaged in the dispute and are ramping up for what would seem an inevitable legal showdown between the superstar rapper and the streaming service that has yet to catch on widely with consumers.
Tidal declined to comment for this story, and West’s press and legal reps did not return requests for comment by press time.
In January 2015, Jay Z made a $56 million offer for the Swedish technology company Aspiro and its WiMP streaming service. By March 2015, he had renamed it Tidal and hosted a splashy launch featuring star power artist-owners, which included Beyonce, West, Daft Punk, J. Cole, Jason Aldean, Coldplay, Usher, DeadMau5, Calvin Harris, Jack White and Nicki Minaj, among others.
Since then, the company has struggled to attract and retain paid subscribers during a period in which streaming accounts for more than half of music-industry revenues. At last unofficial count, the service had an estimated 1 million paid users, far behind market leaders Spotify and Apple Music (50 million and 20 million, respectively).
This past May, Tidal lost its third chief executive in two years with the departure of Jeff Toig, who became CEO in January 2016, when he replaced interim CEO Peter Tonstad, who took over for Tidal’s original chief exec Andy Chen.
In January, however, Tidal boosted its funding by selling a 33 percent stake in the company to Sprint for $200 million while giving it access to the telecom company’s 45 million customers. That deal helped buoy Jay Z’s new album 4:44, which was certified platinum four days after its release thanks to a promotion sponsored by Sprint allowing consumers to download the album for free after submitting an email address and promotional code.
All of this means Jay Z, the face and name behind Tidal, has masterminded two consecutive releases (2013’s Magna Carta, Holy Grail with Samsung) with corporate partners, which have supported massive sales numbers before his albums even hit the streets. Those kinds of deals may not be easily available to Tidal’s other artist-owners, who, in the wake of Hova’s riches, may be wondering much like West if their music is being distributed as widely as possible and if they are maximizing their returns as well as Jay Z.
Those artists, though, may not have the personal relationship Jay Z and West have had and seemed to culminate with the duo’s 2011 joint studio album, Watch the Throne, which was followed by a tour.
On Jay Z’s new release, however, the song “Kill Jay Z” points to a schism between the two MCs with lyrics that make mention of West receiving a supposed $20 million advance for 2016’s Saint Pablo tour, presumably from Jay Z’s Roc Nation, which he seemed to imply was undeserved. “But you got hurt because you did cool by ‘Ye,” the lyrics say. “You gave him 20 million without blinkin’ / He gave you 20 minutes on stage, f— was he thinkin’?”
The lyrics could be a reference to the Saint Pablo tour getting cut short with 21 shows remaining. This came shortly after an erratic performance in Sacramento, where West ranted about Jay Z not calling him, among other things. Not long after the show West was reportedly hospitalized for exhaustion.
A source close to the situation said the $20 million line from “Kill Jay Z” had nothing to do with tour advances, explaining that Roc Nation doesn’t structure its deals that way.
A version of this story originally appeared on Billboard.
