Schitt’s Creek Questionnaire
Tagged by @disgruntleddavidrose to answer these questions <3
1. Favorite Schitt’s Creek character: Probably David, because I relate to him the most and his faces are hilarious. But I also am so fuckin’ proud of Alexis. And Patrick’s comedic delivery... iconic. I can’t pick ;_;
2. Favorite Quote:  Every devastatingly sincere thing Patrick’s ever said, but especially: “David, I’ve spent most of my life not knowing what right was supposed to feel like, and then I met you. And everything changed. You make me feel right, David.”
3. Who is the best dressed character in Schitt’s Creek? I think Alexis. David & Moira’s fashion senses are too extreme for me. They’re a great expression of character, but I actually really like Alexis’ cute dresses and boho jewelry and fun hats.
4. If you could be best friends with any character in Schitt’s Creek, who would it be?  I need a Patrick in my life. Not in a romantic way, just someone that I could count on that could deal with my drama bc he was married to someone even MORE dramatic.
5. How many times have you watched the series so far?  I’ve watched every episode with Patrick in it a ridiculous number of times, plus Sebastien Raine. But season 1 through 3x07 only once or twice!
6. Which character are you most like and why?  David. I’m not as uncomfortable with expressing emotions as he is, but I strongly relate to his overdramatic intensity. In behavior and in feelings. Being capable of so much love but having been hurt a lot of times in the past and being afraid to dive into that again. Being “too much” for most people and politely (or hurtfully) distanced because of it.
7. Would you live at the Rosebud Motel?  I mean, if I had a choice I’d obviously want to live somewhere nicer. Like an apartment. But I could make it work, I’m pretty sure.
8. Do you prefer Patrick or David’s version of Tina Turner’s The Best?  I think Patrick’s version. Noah’s voice is SO gorgeous, and David’s incredibly soft face journey... but also I love David’s bc of how much it says about his character. I’ve rambled about it on twitter before but like: the show has done the work to the point where you know exactly what this gesture means. Why it’s such an amazing step for David to be this vulnerable. What he’s trying to say to Patrick with it. All without explicit explanation in the dialogue.
9. If you were to work in Schitt’s Creek, where would you work? Nowhere customer-facing, that’s for sure. I’d probably ask to work with Patrick’s lovely color-coded spreadsheets, or with Ted’s vet records or something. In an ideal world I’d just hole up somewhere and write/publish novels.
10. What moment made you laugh the most in the show?  I’m a huge fan of the Alexis & David scene in 05x01 that ends with David’s “Mm! Eat glass!” It gets me every time. Followed by that incredible exchange between D&P in the store. Patrick’s little wiggle when he says “just, like, spontaneously open or closed” also makes me laugh without fail. I think that’s such an underrated episode.
11. Favorite episode? For good feels: 04x12, Singles Week. I love Alexis managing her event like a girlboss. I love every word exchanged between D&P in this ep. I love the conversation with David & Ted because it shows some stunning character development on David’s part and leads to good things for Texis too. I love it so much!
For angst: 04x07, The Barbecue, all the way. My fave line is in this episode, and I’ve read SO much angsty fic surrounding it bc it’s the only actual moment in-canon that D&P’s relationship feels like it’s in danger! I think it’s set up so well, including the highly entertaining exchange about the birthday clown...
12. What actor would you most like to be friends with in real life? Dan. I admire his deep understanding of characters & chara development arcs. Plus he just seems really sweet and funny.
13. What was the most touching moment for you?  So much to choose from? Like the entirety of MTP. Ted & David’s conversation in “Singles Week.” The way Patrick supports David through “The Incident.” The way Patrick’s voice breaks as he proposes. Open Mic. Olive Branch. The wedding. I’m sorry I’ll literally die if I try to pick just a single piece of their love story. And that’s not even getting started on other characters, like Alexis & Ted in the diner...
Tagging @ohhalesyeah @a-true-literati @thedemogorgon11 @roguebabyinyourstore and any other friends I have that wanna ramble about Schitt’s Creek!!

I was rewatching some of the 2nd kuromyu and it hit me that Furukawa really spoilt us in every way possible with his portrayal Sebastian and It made me wonder what your opinions on Yuya Matsushita's sebas are?
Dear, deaaaar Anon,
I agree, Furukawa really did spoil us rotten ❤
Matsushita? Erm……….. well………. I guess the time has come that people will more concretely find out why my blog has zero Matsushita content despite aiming to ‘promote Kuromyu’ XD
Warning - Unpopular and PERSONAL opinion:
*Disclaimer at the bottom of this post.
In 2009 I was very impressed to see my favourite manga turning into theatre, my favourite type of media. Despite being young and easily impressed at the time, even now 10 years later, I do recognise the pressure of a literal teen having to shoulder the pressure of playing an omnipotent demon butler in a wildly popular show. 2.5D actors are one of the most underpaid people in Japan. When it came to the casting of ‘the perfect butler’, they had to look for someone who:
could sing at least not terribly
act not terribly
looked not terribly
would be okay with basically no salary.
That’s how they ended up casting an 18-year-old Matsushita (a minor in Japan). The expectations were of course crushing, and Matsushita did not really manage to live up to these, mostly because of his very high pitched voice (which is not fair to condemn someone for).
According to many however, he looked decently handsome. Editor Kuma was aware of the limitations to this child-performer, and instructed Matsushita to play into what people did appreciate in him; his looks.
Tumblr media
I don’t know whether it was Matsushita’s personal interpretation or the limit to his abilities, but to me, he never managed to show me any aspect outside ‘the handsome host-butler’. His singing was mediocre-good, his acting however was never believable to me. Though I was also painfully aware of the huge burden on his shoulders, so I appreciated him for what he was 1. The first 3D Sebas, and 2. A child working very, VERY hard in shouldering the impossible burden of the thirsty fandom.
Tumblr media
When ‘The Most Beautiful Death in the World’ came out in 2010, I was stunned. It was such a major improvement in comparison to the first Kuromyu.
‘The Most Beautiful Death in the World’ was something that I loved at the time, and was my first reason to love Kuromyu. But now I recognise how ‘MBD’ is highly problematic and I can’t look at them anymore, mainly because:
The plot holes that… are just glaring XD (Eric: “I have an all-powerful Death Scythe with which I could kill a demon and without which I am basically powerless. Let’s throw it at him!”  Sebastian: “I caught the all-powerful weapon from the reaper who is powerless without. Hm. Let’s not use it against him or keep it from him, but throw it back at him :D”)
The corset scene (where they made a CHILD actor moan and play in a scene with heavy sexual context for a huge audience’s hedonistic pleasure! Or even worse in 2013, where they made 14 year old Tanaka Taketo play the role of a seducer with an adult in the curtain call for Matsushita’s Birthday. And the boy had NO say in the matter. UGH, I still can’t believe the producers made a child who had no power to say no do something like that…)
Of course none of those were Matsushita’s fault, but retroactively these two factors did bother me so much I found myself unable to enjoy the musical anymore.
Tumblr media
When ‘The Lycoris that Blazes the Earth 2014’ came out, I was thrilled to see what Matsushita would make of it, because finally he was given the chance to show ‘a real Sebas in a canon story’. Somehow, Lycoris 2014 almost became a ‘test for Matsushita’ for me: “will be prove himself a worthy Sebas now he has the chance?”
By 2014 however, the rising fame really started to get to Matsushita’s head, and he started showing the alpha-male macho behaviour I dislike most in people. Still I was curious to see the musical, so I did give him a chance.
In Lycoris 2014 however, it felt like Matsushita turned Sebastian into him, rather than himself into Sebastian. His spastic acting and unnecessary comic additions just didn’t do it for me. It was like he was trying to steal a show that was already his. What also bothered me was how he forced his voice way below his range.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I am obviously aware that this alpha-male behaviour and the forced low pitch are both the product of the bullying where people criticised him with: “He sounds like a helium balloon” or “He sings like a girl”, but these do not excuse the behaviour for me personally.
So in a nutshell, to me Matsushita reached the peak of his performance of Sebas around 2013 where he seemed to see what Sebastian is supposed to be and walked towards him. In 2014 however when he was finally cast in a canon-story, it became blatantly apparent – TO ME PERSONALLY - how not-Sebastian he was.
There is hardly any information about Matsushita after Lycoris 2014, but Matsushita announced his retirement from Kuromyu using the word ‘graduated’. When Furukawa was announced as the second Sebastian, Matsushita basically disappeared off radar, and did not make any Kuroshitsuji-related public comments until 2016 where he publicly acknowledged Furukawa.
“Actually…Today after I just rounded up the rehearsals for X4 I went to watch the evening performance for “Kuroshitsuji – NOAH’s ARK CIRCUS – ”.I liked the circus arc to begin with, so especially this time I rushed to see[the musical]. It was super fun, and above everything else, the cast, the music, set and illuminations were of an altogether different level than before, it was very glamorous and I enjoyed it a lot.To begin with, the musical I played my first lead role in at age 19 was this“Kuroshitsuji”. I’m performing in all kinds of productions now, but more than half of my acting careers up till now had been Kuroshitsuji.I’ve done this 4 times now, and last year I had the honour to baton-pass the role to the current Sebastian, Mr. Furukawa Yuuta. I have decided to officially retire from this franchise and it might be presumptuous for me to say this, but the “Kuroshitsuji” musical franchise I had been part of from age 19 really has gone up in quality, the scale has suddenly become so amazing too. It is now at a level I can’t ever reach myself, but still I’m happy for [the franchise]. Really. I’m very moved~[…]  Already the new Sebastian has been established above anything else, and I’ve seen in him the Sebastian I always wanted to portray but never managed to. He is excellent.[…] - Matsushita Yuya

The Cinema of 2019: A Literate Ape End-of-Year Review
By Don Hall and Brett Dworski
Editor’s Note:
With projects like Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Watchmen, The Mandalorian, and pretty much everything produced for the CW, we are smack dab in the epicenter of the Age of Fan Fiction. The films of 2019 have some nods to this trend with Joker, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and Yesterday playing hard and loose with expanding the existing iconography to tell new stories.
We enjoyed a lot of movies in 2019. While not a banner year like 1968 or 1999, the year certainly had its standouts. Here is our end of the year list of the films that impacted us the most compiled by Don Hall and Brett Dworski, both film fans and people with acceptable vision and hearing.
NOTE: These are not ranked because generally, we believe the practice of ranking films is fucking stupid. However, we do rate them from 1 to 5 Apes. Enjoy.
Apollo 11
4 Apes (DH)
There really was a time when America was great. Sure, there was still segregation and violence, the war overseas, the draft, and the host of problems faced by the country but the men and women who took up Kennedy’s challenge to get a human being on the surface of the moon elevated us all. Apollo 11 is a documentary using entirely archival footage of this historic moment when mankind exceeded itself.
Honey Boy
1 Ape (BD)
The anticipated debut of writer Shia LaBeouf is choppy and disappointing. Newcomer Noah Jupe plays child actor Otis—based on LaBeouf—whose drunken father disrupts his recent success. The film’s inconsistencies stem across the plot, casting and performances. The father, played by LaBeouf, flops between abusive asshole and tender daddy by the minute; neither is compelling. Lucas Hedges, who plays Otis as a drug-abusing teenager, looks nothing like LaBeouf or Jupe. And once things get interesting, Otis forgives his pop and tells him he’s “going to make a movie about him.” Very original, Shia. The fact that Honey Boy is based on LaBeouf’s life is intriguing, but the film is ultimately a huge letdown.
Midsommar
4 Apes (DH)
Ari Astor gives us a twisted break up story wrapped in the bloody flowered crown of a horror film set in blinding sunlight. I loved Hereditary for a million reasons. I loved Midsommar for five: Florence Pugh, the bizarre mating ritual, the fucked up mushroom visuals, old people willingly plunging to their deaths, and a dude being stuffed into the skin of a recently slaughtered bear and burned alive.
Dolemite Is My Name
3 Apes (BD)
Eddie Murphy rewinds the clock to his Raw and Delirious days in this biopic of Rudy Ray Moore, a comedian and musician behind the Blaxploitation movement of the 1970s. While wildly erratic at times, it’s also an affectionate and sobering look at the hustle of show business. It took years for Murphy to ditch his affable family-man routine, but it was worth the wait: Dolemite Is My Name cements the raunchy, cocksure comic as one of the greatest talents of all time.
Yesterday
3 Apes (DH)
I wrote about this here. Loved it.
The Lighthouse
3 Apes (BD)
Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe are exhilarating in this delirious indie thriller. They play 19th century lighthouse keepers who struggle to maintain their sanity upon learning they’re stuck on an island off the coast of New England. The stunning black and white landscapes of Nova Scotia are overshadowed by Dafoe’s and Pattinson’s constant bickering, farting, masturbating, and binge drinking. The Lighthouse is bizarre, hilarious, terrifying, peculiar… and quite good. You’ll never view seagulls the same way after watching it.
Endgame
5 Apes (DH)
The culmination of nearly two dozen interconnected films all stemming from my Gen X childhood? I’ve been waiting since I read my first Avengers comic when I was ten years old for this and it did not disappoint. Packed with incredibly satisfying moments (Professor Hulk, Cap gets the Hammer, “...on your left...,” and “I... am... Iron Man”) this was the most fun three hours I could imagine that didn’t involve cheese or sex.
The Art of Self Defense
4 Apes (BD)
This deadpan and absurdist comedy highlights toxic masculinity through a ruthless karate class. Jessie Eisenberg plays Casey, a lonely, frightened accountant who enlists in the course after a mugging leaves him hospitalized. Led by a vain and puzzling instructor, the class soon absorbs Casey’s life and brainwashes him to commit barbaric acts beyond self-protection. Although clearly a blend of Fight Club and The Karate Kid, The Art of Self Defense carries an unusual rhythm that separates it from its predecessors—and displays a refreshing kind of filmmaking from newcomer Riley Streams.
Joker
4 Apes (DH)
The politics that suddenly surrounded this were nothing more than distraction. Was it a response to the humorless Woke culture? An Incel Fantasy? Who gives a fuck. It was a film that did something a lot of movies lately refuse to do—it surprised us. It also included an amazing, painful performance by Joaquin Phoenix and, like Logan before it, used the pop culture iconography of the comic book tropes and deepened them in ways that only a bold approach could.
High Life
4 Apes (BD)
Visually-stunning cinematography and a harrowing storyline carry High Life, one of the most daunting films of the year. Set in a futuristic world where death-row inmates are sent to conduct eerie experiments in outer space, High Life is as morbid as it is alluring. The movie—which was made in 2018 but not released in theaters until 2019—resembles a space version of The Shining with its isolation-leads-to-madness concept. While too edgy for some, High Life is one of the most uniquely made films in years.
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
5 Apes (DH)
Tarantino’s homage to revisionist history, the plight of growing old and becoming replaceable, 1960s Hollywood, and chock full of snappy dialogue, incredible performances, and both a sense of celebration and melancholy makes this one of the best movies about movies ever made.
John Wick Chapter 3
5 Apes (DH)
With next year’s Keanu-mas when they release both John Wick 4 and the Matrix 4 movies on the same day (yes, I will participate fully) the franchise that spawned the newfound love for all things Reeves is absolutely worth noting. Full of that comic book/video game world-building, odd but sensible rituals and oaths and rules plus plenty of head-shot, bloody violence, I sat in a Las Vegas theater with a crowd and we all gasped, laughed, and applauded at the absolute action-porn that is John Wick. Yes, these films are pornography of comic book violence and Reeves is our big-dicked John Holmes.
The Painted Bird
5 Apes (BD)
Those seeking a feel good shan’t see The Painted Bird, a bloodcurdling Holocaust drama seen through the eyes of a child. Petr Kotlár gives a robust performance as a nameless boy fighting to survive the violent societal breakdown in Eastern Europe. In doing so, he experiences one nightmare after another—each worse than the former—and loses hope in human kindness along the way. The beautifully shot black-and-white landscapes are a mirage for the routine abuse the boy encounters, leaving audiences as numb to it as he is by the film’s end.
The Irishman
4 Apes (DH)
Scorsese caps a triptych of films over decades with this much slower but no less magnificent look into the Italian Mafia from the inside/out. Goodfellas is an Irish kid’s ascent and is an explosive young man’s movie. Casino is a Jewish man’s climb up in the Mob and, while still explosive, is a bit more subdued and a decidedly middle-aged man’s film. The Irishman is an old man’s view, looking back, reliving awful and magnificent moments.
Together, the three films mark a masterwork in a genius director’s canon.
Ad Astra
5 Apes (BD)
Ad Astra takes a different approach than most solar-system journeys by exploring the man behind the suit. Brad Pitt is Roy McBride, an accomplished astronaut whose dedication to space has damaged his marriage. When called upon for secret mission to Neptune, the stoic McBride finds he’s more than a government robot, and his ascent to madness results in one of Pitt’s finest performances. Supported by a wonderfully played asshole in Tommy Lee Jones, Ad Astra is as much a family drama as it is a space adventure.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker
5 Apes (DH)
Sure, there were unanswered questions leftover and I really didn’t care for that kiss at the end but I loved this film from start to finish. Completing a story as massive and, in many ways, disconnected, was a tall order and I think Abrams and team did about as good a job as anyone could expect. This will be in rotation at least a couple more times in the next few weeks.
Marriage Story
5 Apes (BD)
Oscar-worthy performances from Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson drive Marriage Story, a clever, poignant narrative about divorce. Noah Baumbach’s behind-the-scenes view of the crippling situation separates it from movies alike, exploring factors beyond courtroom troubles and custody battles. Marriage Story empathetically—and even comically—shows both sides of the fight, and its effect will last far beyond the screen. Get your box of tissues ready.
Alita: Battle Angel
3 Apes (DH)
Not a Manga-Boy so the inconsistencies with the story and characters didn’t bother me. I thought this was the closest to watching a dramatic video game with some cool performances and great use of camera and technology. It was also the film I saw first as a resident of Las Vegas so that counts for something at least to me.
Parasite
5 Apes (BD)
Superbly written, shot and performed, Bong Joon-ho’s account of class discrimination in Korea is an electrifying and emotional masterpiece. What begins as a lighthearted story of two families—one rich, one destitute—spirals into shocking sequences of deception. It has every element of an instant classic: witty comedy, sexual tension, thrilling violence, social themes and a stunning finale that mirrors the horrors of reality. Calling it the best movie of 2019 isn’t enough: Parasite is one of the top films of the decade and transcends the arc of modern cinema.

The ratings rose this episode, why did you think that happened?
what I have noticed makes the biggest difference in ratings sometimes is what movie precedes it. My other theory is that people watched the premiere late, liked it and watched the next episode live. Following that pattern, I would expect the next one to dip. The demo didn’t rise that much though.

Trying to appease by saying she hopes everyone gets the ending they want 🙄 That should’ve been a final season not a shady unneeded spin off. Love how Cierra just stands there and nods 🙄 Hayden has really surprised me recently - matured so much. That article about Teri has got me angry all over again just be honest with your viewers we’re the ones that kept you on the air for so long.
There’s no “ending” with a spin off and that’s the biggest problem. Hayden has learned to keep quiet it’s a good thing.
Anonymous said:                                                                      Is there only on your page that we can read what went bad off screen between the cast ?
I don’t know. I don’t follow that many fan pages, just the tags.
Anonymous said:                                                                      Do you have any source, anything that can show us the bad things that are happening behind the scenes ? I mean something else than speculations. Fornow, the only thing I see as a reflect of the tension you are talking about is Teri unfollowing the people we know. That no one can deny (well I haven'tlooked yet but I believe you cause that’s easy to verify). I’m asking that because I’m so fed up with going everywhere there’s a thread about The Fostersand see nobody talks about the bts. I’m not saying they should, but the fact that they think that everything is fine and the show just ended and got a spin-off and that it’s cool, that’s crazy. It’s like they live in another world. I think it will interest those people to know that something bad went fromall of this. We can’t keep blinding ourselves talking about how this amazing family (on screen off screen) is while it’s not true.
I have said many times that I do not have sources. I pay attention and make intelligent deductions. I called the spin off before they announced it because I pay attention. Teri has def. unfollowed those people, it’s now showing up on my app so the website was accurate. The other strongest piece of evidence to me that the cast was unaware of a spin off and the cancellation is that Sherri, that I trust more than others, had been asking for a renewal all the way till announcement. The other strongest piece of evidence is that none of the regulars wished Maia and Cierra well on the spin off when it was announced. No one. They all seem a bit stunned at the announcement and took a bit to respond.
Most fans are unaware of things. You still see people asking about the new Jesus. Asking if Teri and Sherri are really together. That’s why I never look at facebook. The truth won’t come out for a while but eventually all shows throw out the dirt that happened behind the scenes.
Anonymous said:                                                                      you have talked a lot about Teri, Sherri, Peter, Joanna and Brad and still do. I read just a little about Jennifer Lopez here who was mentionned onceI think (she won’t be a producer for the spin-off). I would like to know what about her ? They came to her long ago and told her about these two wonderful moms when they asked her to become one of the producers of the show. She said The Fosters was the show she needed when she was young, The Fosters reminds her of her aunty. So what did she say ? Does she know about why all of this happened ? I think that the show was important for her too. Maybe Johanna can’t speak her mind but I wouldthink that Jennifer Lopez would say something like “this show was about two moms and you killed it”. Do you think that all they said before is meaningless now ? I mean I used to defend The Fosters saying that it was so important, taught me about what true family was about. What love is about. Do we haveto take back all we ever said now ??
This is hollywood, they are all fake, so I wouldn’t expect her to say a damn thing. The Fosters was just something she threw money at. It wasn’t her creation so I am not sure how much passion she had about it. Now, the fact that they left her off, tells me the big three want to keep as much money from the spin off to themselves as possible.
Anonymous said:                                                                      Some Jonnor fans were happy The Fosters was canceled, because Hayden won’t have a job anymore. I think that’s really immature. I get they were hurt and it wasn’t fair. But they hate him that much. Like chill out. Even if Hayden hasn’t been the best person. He’s a teenager and needs to mature some. And he has lately.
Jonnor fans and JT Austin fans will all claim responsibility lol. It just proves this show was never without behind the scenes drama. This whole line about we’re a family was all bullshit. I think we were fooled because there were strong friendships there, Teri and Sherri, Hayden and what’s his face, and Cierra and Maia. I know which friendship will outlast all 3. You watch what happens with those two once they share the lead… or not. Anyone really think Cierra is a real colead here?
Anonymous said:                                                                      I am so glad that Sherri has Teri and Teri has Sherri.
The best thing about all this bts drama. One thing was real.
Anonymous said:                                                                      Are you one of the Stef and Lena fans that has been blocked by Bradley?
Yep, and Cierra. hee, not maia yet though. So at least she is more social media savvy
Anonymous said:                                                                      What is the article you are talking, the one which talks bad about Teri?
It was a tabloid blurb on the actual magazine.
Anonymous said:                                                                      What is your opinion of the cast members besides Maia and Cierra? (David, Hayden, etc)
I think I addressed this already. I never liked any of them. I thought Hayden was the worst, but he’s gotten better. Noah seems not quite there most of the time. David doesn’t strike me much like an actor. We’ll see how long he ends up doing this. Maia and Cierra have hit all the wrong notes for me since they got those boyfriends. Their lifestyle isn’t something that I admire or even really tolerate. Now that I know they went behind people’s backs, I really don’t want to even look at them. Watching the show now, it strikes me Cierra looks nothing like a 16/17 year old. They’ll need to age her more than 7 years for the spin off

Best TV series of 2017
Another year past and it’s time for another summary of television. Of course it was terribly hard to choose the best shows like last year, but maybe even harder considering how many new things came up and in how good shape the “old” series came back. So I chose my TOP 10 but also ten another series that was very good and close to be in my rank.
Places 20-11
The Crown, Stranger Things, GLOW, Game of Throne, Anne, Mr Robot, Fargo, Twin Peaks Return, Crazy Ex-Grilfriend, Better Things.
And now my TOP 10
10. American Gods. I’m not sure if I can be impartial about this show. It has many various review but I love Neil Gaiman’s book so much and I couldn’t love this series. Or maybe I could because as a fan I should be very critical about it. Nonetheless this show didn’t dissapointed me and gave a lot more. Great casting and what’s typical for Bryan Fuller it was very stylistic show as it should have been.
9. Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. She got this place in the last moment because I just watched the show. I was hoping for Gilmore Girls to be on my list this year but Amy Sherman-Palladino didn’t let me down anyway. It’s like a very sweet, colorful and tasty candy from her. Very funny, smart and it shows well those crazy years (especially for women). The biggest adventage is adorable and very likeable main character.
8. Feud: Bette and Joan. Ryan Murphy may dissapoint me with once amazing AHS series but he always give something in return. How could it go wrong? Incredibly interesting  true story of two amazing women. Great cast, containing some of my favorite actresses: Lange and Sarandon. Plus Murphy who showed again that he know how to write the female characters and how well he understand them. Of course stylistically this show can blow your mind.
7. Master of None. Aziz came back with season 2 and it may be even better than the first one. This show delivers so many various attractions. Episode in black and white, the best episode about Thanksgiving I ever saw (Angela Bassett was stunning), beautiful Italy and even more beautiful Francesca. Love story in this season is so cute and kind like in oldest movies. I was a big pleasure to watch this season and I hope Aziz will be back.
6. Handmaid’s Tale. This is one of must see in 2017. Beautifly shot and played by very talented cast. The thing I remember most though is Alexsis Bledel and episode three which made me cry like nothing else. Although this version of future is very scary it was a pleasure to get depper and deeper into regime with our main character. Acting is the biggerst virtue of this series and I think the reason of its seccess.
5. Leftovers. It is a very special show. I watched the whole two seasons in last year just before its coming back for finale. The writing is so smart, natural and authenic even though it is such a crazy world the show depicts. It has so many beautiful, scary and heartbreaking moments. I like how this season particulary refers do Bible and how creators play with apocalypse vibe. The finale was tremendously emotional and so subtle in the same way. I will miss this one.
4. Mindhunter. Big positive suprice for me but also considering it is influenced by David Fincher it shouldn’t be at all because I love his movies. Especially I love Zodiak and any movies with familiar topics connected with serial killer cases. And this show have everything to steal my heart. Great cast, interesting characters, stunning music, amazing writing with smooth dialogues and climate of 70s. First season gave us many frightening story and amazing gallery of personalities. Every actor who played killer did a great acting job. There was no big  gun action or plot twists but those meetings were enought.
3. Big Little Lies. Another series with remarkable nast of female. But we all know that cast isn’t enough. It’s the story and fascinating characters what make the show great. Cast and acting was rewarded so many times that I can just say that of course I agree with critics. For me the biggest treat in BLL is the director. Jean Marc Valle is one of my favorite creators of last years. I love his work and the way he combines great acting in emotional scenes with beautiful shots and music. He made watching this life of rich housewifes and their children so interesting and fascinating I fell in love with this show.
2. BoJack Horeman. I think it’s the best drama of 2017. The only reason it’s not consider this way is because its animated. I will say again that BoJack is the best antihero character that tv ever made. Complicated and depresing life of this horse and his friends get even more fucked up this season but still with grace and great sense of humor creators of show can make it a great comedy. And this season really was depresing considering we get to know BoJack’s family better with very dark past of his mother (the ending with her in eldery institution broke my heart). Plus Princess Carolyn get some more time and fail to become a mother. This kind of drama actually always was the best way to bring comedy so no wonder it work so great in this season. I’d really like for this series to get more appreciations because BoJack realy don’t deserve to be forgotten. I love this horse and I’m glad it came back in such a good shape again.
1. Legion. The biggest suprice and the biggest joy of this year. I love comic book especially Marvel and mutants the most of them all. So imagine my hope and expectations when I found out that amazing Noah Hawley is making a show in the world of X-men and even more about character so crazy, bipolar and strange as LEGION. Well the show is a lot more than I could imagine and hope. The cast is great. Stevens is doing a great job as the madman but he’s not even close to amazing Audrey Plaza (one of my favorite young actress) because she goes in completly nuts places the bring the best...ehmm the worst of Shadow King. Noah Hawley also go crazy with artistic solutions he uses this season. The way camera works, music he chose and characters he made...it’s all so fascinating, creative and CRAZY good! I know I use “c” word a lot but it’s the best one to describe this series. Narrative is really smart and demanding from viewers. Stopping the time, journey in different dimentions, black and white movies, getting lost in memories, even being trapped in silent movie.  I really am supriced by complete lack of nominations and awards for this show. Well I guess critics still think that comic based shows and movies are not worth their attention. Too bad because even though comics adaptations in tv really did fail me this year, Legion is the real gem. I can’t wait for next season and I pray that mutants coming back to Marvel won’t affect this magnificent series.
Tumblr media
*****
The most important trait of this year ranking is how many of those shows are new. Many great shows came back in good shape (Starnger Thing, Game of Throne) but not good enough to get into best 10.
Another one is lack of my last year numer 1. Why? Unfortunatelly Mozart in the Jungle was not broadcast this year...I have to wait till February.
Biggest disapointments:
1. AHS Cult. Like I said Murphy let me down again with this one. First of all. Stop calling it horror. It’s not horror since season 3. Another flaw is the theme. I get that political situation in USA is a hot topic and going after Trump is a thing now. But it really bores me so much. Trust me, I think Trump stinks but did Ryan had to try win his part in this trend. A large number of nominations for SNL is an example that it can be lucrative but Ryan did it very bad taste for me. Showing in stereotypical way of both sides, characters without brains, boring plot and all of it so predictable. Well he still have two seasons left to fix it or destroy this once great series completly.
2.Iron Fist and Defenders. I have no patience to write about terrible Iron Fist. What really upset me it that Defenders was such a medicore series and in the end so boring and unattractive season to watch. It had Daredevil and Jessica Jones! Still it sucked so much.
3. Friends from College. Great cast for comedy. No comedy at all. The lack of chemistry between the characters killed this series. Too bad because it had potential.

CineMama’s First Annual Oliver Awards
The day came and went: the 2020 Academy Awards. What a bore. (Though I am happy for Bong Joon-ho, and South Korean cinema as a whole, on the Best Picture win for Parasite.) I’m doing my own darn version of the Oscars, named after my firstborn: the Olivers. (No, I’m not stealing Elsie Fisher’s idea; she stole mine.)
For the past couple years, I’ve shared my list of favorite movies and performances regardless of having an official platform or not. Now I have a blog and every year, you can bet I’m going to let my readers know my opinions on the best in film from the year before. I’ll refrain from naming a “Best Picture,” because there are simple too many “Best Picture”s to name in any given year. With that, let’s begin!
Tumblr media
Best Actor: Jimmie Fails - The Last Black Man in San Francisco
Jimmie Fails, the lead actor and co-writer of The Last Black Man in San Francisco, gifted us one of 2019’s best performances as his autobiographical namesake, Jimmie. His confidence, quiet joy in taking care of his family’s legacy, and grace living in a city trying to erase him, radiate off the screen.
Tumblr media
Best Actress: Lupita Nyong’o - Us
I don’t, nor will I ever, understand why the Academy fawned over Ms. Nyong’o for one (1) year and then snubbed her ever since. Not only did her characters (I didn’t even recognize her as Red in the trailer) drive the plot of Jordan Peele’s Us, her line delivery as Red sends chills down my spine. I’m tempted to share Us with even my horror-hesitant friends and family, just so that they don’t miss out on Nyong’o! It’s illegal to not appreciate Nyong’o’s dual performance, so someone arrest all the haters in the Academy.
Tumblr media
Best Netflix Original Movie: Dolemite is My Name
Can’t agree on a movie to watch with your in-laws? You want to watch Okja, they want to watch the latest Adam Sandler movie that isn’t Uncut Gems? Dolemite is My Name won’t feel like a compromise once you hit “play.”  The most heartwarming movie full of four letter words I’ve ever seen, a joyful and crass tribute to a comedian and a dreamer, the whole family will be smiling in no time. Netflix has begun to serve us auteur cinema and Cannes award-winners on the regular, but Dolemite is My Name is the perfect mix of crowd pleaser and a film history lover’s delight.
Tumblr media
Best Supporting Cast: Booksmart
I just wanted to spend the whole movie with the eccentric rich kids and the killer pizza delivery driver.
Tumblr media
Best Romantic Comedy: Someone Great
I watched this movie because Adam told me Taylor Swift wrote one of my favorite songs off Lover, “Death by a Thousand Cuts,” after watching Someone Great on Netflix. So of course I had to see what could inspire such a bop. Unlike a lot of movies that I forget soon after watching them, Someone Great has stuck with me. I think Someone Great has staying power because the characters are both lovable and relatable, brought to life by a great cast of 30-somethings. They live in a New York of fantasy (they all have nice apartments and cute clothes and cool jobs), but also a world of love and heartbreak, where romance reaches its dramatic potential. A great movie to veg out with on a chill, lazy day, but also one to watch with the girls while getting ready for a night out or alone while nursing a broken heart. Someone Great captures the melodrama of young adulthood while also giving its audience a much-needed escape from their problems.
Tumblr media
Best Career-Building Year: Florence Pugh
She’s the actress nobody can stop talking about, with star turns in critical darlings Little Women and Midsommar, plus an under-seen performance in the Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson-produced Fighting with My Family. Now she has a big Marvel movie coming out and my hopes build for her career with each glowing review. (Our generation’s Meryl Streep? I don’t think that’s a stretch.)
Tumblr media
Best Feature Directorial Debut: TIE - Lulu Wang - The Farewell and Joe Talbot - The Last Black Man in San Francisco
Both films reveal worlds unknown to the majority-white Academy: Wang shares China with us through the eyes of a second-generation immigrant woman and Talbot shows us the San Francisco he knows and loves, the one at risk of gentrification and cultural erasure. You feel kinship with the family portrayed in The Farewell, even if you don’t speak their language, and you feel a sense of injustice on behalf of the characters in The Last Black Man in San Francisco, even if you’ve never set foot in the Bay Area. Both directors tell their stories with an unflinchingly honest perspective and it’s this honesty that makes the stories relatable and that elicit a sense of understanding from their audience, regardless of background, because our differences are what give us an opportunity to nurture empathy.
Tumblr media
Best Writer/Director Power Couple: TIE - Noah Baumbach and Greta Gerwig / Barry Jenkins and Lulu Wang
Wang made it very clear during the Hollywood Reporter Directors’ Roundtable that she couldn’t have a more different relationship with her partner, Oscar-winner Jenkins, than Gerwig does with Oscar-nominee Baumbach: Wang keeps her work separate from her relationship with Jenkins, whereas Gerwig and Baumbach are frequent creative partners and perhaps each other’s biggest fans. I respect and appreciate both of these lifestyles, as I fall into the Jenkins/Wang camp, since I take a very different approach to acting and film compared to my actor and film-lover-of-a-husband, but also admire creative partnerships like the one made perfect by Baumbach/Gerwig.
Tumblr media
Best Directorial Follow Up to a Horror Hit: FOUR WAY TIE – The Lighthouse and Midsommar and The Nightingale and Us
I’ve written about The Lighthouse and Midsommar with a bit more detail here and here, respectively, but these four movies amaze me with their artistic vision and expert pacing. If you want something that guarantees to trigger introspection (ranked in darkness level from Us to The Nightingale; Us’s content plays fairly light in comparison to the traumatizing Nightingale), you can’t go wrong with one of these.
Tumblr media
Best Shark Attack: The Beach Bum’s “dolphin” watch scene
Another film I’ve written about previously here, I can’t stress how much this scene brought me joy in 2019. The image of an overly confident dolphin watch guide diving into a school of sharks, while a white trash tourist family observes in stunned horror, made my year just that much better. Someone please put this scene on YouTube so I don’t have to skip around on my Blu-ray player to enjoy one of cinema’s best gags of the year.
Tumblr media
The One Thing the Academy ALMOST Got Right aka Best Cinematography - Jarin Blaschke for The Lighthouse
The Academy snubbed Jarin Blaschke on Oscar night for his gorgeous, old-school, expressionistic camera magic, so I quit. They literally don’t make movies like this anymore, except Blaschke and Robert Eggers DID and because of their commitment to filmmaking, my classic-film-loving heart SANG. Find a movie that makes your heart sing and let it kill you.

New from Kevin Wozniak on Kevflix: The Best Movies of 2019
It all comes down to this.  The best movies of 2019.  The final year of the decade the was the 2010’s and it sure was a good one.  2019 was an incredibly strong year for cinema and one that we should all be happy about.  Like most years, we had our duds and disappointments, but we also had plenty of surprises and some truly great films from some of the best filmmakers working today.  I saw 191 films in 2019, a few less than 2018, but still a great amount.  I was able to see all kinds of movies from all over the from all different genres and budget sizes.  I do wish I saw more documentaries, though, but hey, I am only human.
So without further ado, here are my picks for the best movies of 2019.
          HONORABLE MENTIONS
[In Alphabetical Order]
A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD
Tom Hanks becomes Mr. Rogers is Marielle Heller’s delightful film.
BOOKSMART
Olivia Wilde’s directorial debut is one of the best high school comedies of the 2000’s and features break out turns from Beanie Feldstein and Kaitlyn Dever.
GLASS
The finale is M. Night Shyamalan’s Eastrail 177 Trilogy is a somber look at how broken people use their trauma to become super.
LITTLE WOMEN
Greta Gerwig gave us a whimsical, unconventional adaptation of the classic story.
MARRIAGE STORY
Noah Baumbach’s best film to date features awards-worthy performances by Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson as a coupe who’s divorce proceedings get uglier than they expect.
THE REPORT
A tightly wound political thriller featuring terrific performances from Adam Driver and Annette Bening.
THE SOUVENIR
Joanna Hogg’s experimental, powerful look at trauma and memory.
TOY STORY 4
Woody, Buzz, and the gang came back for a fourth chapter that is just as sweet, funny, and heart-breaking as the previous three.
WAVES
A sprawling, emotional, intense look at family, toxic masculinity, guilt, and moving on from loss.  It’s writer/director Trey Edward Shults boldest film to date.
And now, my top ten films of 2019.
    TOP 10 MOVIES OF 2018
10 – AD ASTRA (James Gray)
James Gray is one of our most under-appreciated directors working today.  Ad Astra is proof of his talent and shows how Gray can give us large-scale movies with personal stories.  Ad Astra stars Brad Pitt as astronaut Roy McBride, who is sent on a mission across the solar system to find his father, who went missing 30 years ago and is now threatening the universe.  Featuring some of the best visual effects of the year, a heart-wrenching story, and a great subdued Brad Pitt performance, Ad Astra is a jaw-dropping sins-of-our-father movie.
9 – KNIVES OUT (Rian Johnson)
Rian Johnson reinvented the whodunit genre with Knives Out.  Boasting an all-star cast, led by a never-better Daniel Craig and the breakout performance of the year from Ana de Armas, Knives Out isn’t your classic murder mystery, but one that changes directions so much, your head will be spinning.  Thanks to Johnson’s whip-smart screenplay and outstanding direction, Knives Out was the most fun I had at the movies in 2019 and a movie that only gets better the more you watch it.
    8 – MIDSOMMAR (Ari Aster)
Writer/director Ari Aster’s follow-up to his 2018 horror masterpiece Hereditary is one of the most shocking and exhausting experiences I had at the movies in 2019.  Florence Pugh solidified her leading-lady status as Dani, a girl stuck in a bad relationship who experiences horrible events at a mid-summer festival in Sweden that help her come realize her relationship isn’t everything it seems.  A great looking movie in terms of costumes, production design, and cinematography, yet a horrifying movie in some of the grisly events that take place, Midsommar is one of the most haunting break-up movies ever made and solidifies Aster as the next great horror director.
    7 – FORD V FERRARI (James Mangold)
Ford v Ferrari is a classic American sports underdog story.  A movie that bleeds red, white, and blue and will have you wanting to stand up in your chair and cheer, “AMERICA!”  Director James Mangold has made a wildly entertaining, rousing racing movie that features stellar direction, excellent performances from Matt Damon, Christian Bale, and Tracy Letts, who gives the best speech in the movie, and edge-of-your-seat races to give us one of the most exciting and charming movies of the year.
6 – THE FAREWELL (Lulu Wang)
The Farewell is as beautiful as movies got in 2019.  This a sweet, emotional story about a Chinese family who discovers their grandmother has only a short while left to live and decide to keep her in the dark, scheduling a wedding to gather before she dies.  Writer/director Lulu Wang takes us deep in to Chinese culture, showing us how the Chinese view death versus American culture.  It’s a movie about the love of family and celebrating life.  This is a movie that melts my heart every time I watch it.  Hug your grandma!
    5 – PARASITE (Bong Joon-Ho)
Parasite is a movie that I did not see coming.  Nothing about this movie is conventional and you can’t predict a thing about it.  This a smart, funny, eerie, sad look at class disparity in South Korea and it’s a stunning film in every way.  From the production design, to the performances, to the twists, to the shocking ending and heart-breaking final scene, Parasite is an astounding achievement from the great Bong Joon-Ho.
    4 – ONCE UPON A TIME…IN HOLLYWOOD (Quentin Tarantino)
After stumbling with The Hateful Eight, writer/director Quentin Tarantino came back strong in 2019 with Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood, his funniest and most personal film to date.  This Hollywood fairy tale looks at a washed-up actor (Leonardo DiCaprio, a marvelous turn) and his stunt-double/friend (Oscar-bound Brad Pitt) as they make their way through Hollywood in 1969.  Gorgeous sets and costumes coupled with pitch-perfect Tarantino dialog immerse you in the era.  This is a funny, fun, beautiful look at finding your purpose again even when you think you don’t have it anymore.
3 – UNCUT GEMS (Josh and Benny Safdie)
Uncut Gems is a movie that will have your heart racing from minute.  A look at a degenerate gambling New York jeweler (Adam Sandler) who can’t catch a break has never been this riveting. Casting Sandler was the best casting of the year, as Sandler gives the best performance of his career and of any lead actor in 2019.  The Safdie’s also get unexpectedly great turns from up-and-comer Julia Fox and future NBA Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett.  Uncut Gems has a pulse and a feeling unlike any movie of 2019.  An anxiety-inducing hell of a man who continues to dig himself further and further down until he is on his last rope.  Josh and Benny Safdie are two of the most exciting filmmakers working today and Uncut Gems is their best film to date.
2 – AVENGERS: ENDGAME (Anthony and Joe Russo)
Avengers: Endgame is the most epic finale we have ever seen.  This was eleven years and twenty-plus movies in the making and Anthony and Joe Russo ended it perfectly.  Sure, there are going to be other movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but Avengers: Endgame ended the Tony Stark/Steve Rogers/Infinity saga and it was a glorious way to go out.  Seeing every single Avenger on screen fighting Thanos and his army might be the single greatest cinematic moment of the decade.  And like all great MCU movies, Avengers: Endgame is exciting and endlessly entertaining, yet this one is elevated to greatness due to its heart and the love that we have for these characters that we have grown with over the last decade.
1 – THE IRISHMAN (Martin Scorsese)
The Irishman is Martin Scorsese’s magnum opus.  A three-and-a-half-hour crime epic about a man reflecting on his life, the decisions he’s made, and regret and sadness he lives with.  It’s masterful work from the 77-year-old director and some of the best direction of his career, full of technical wonder, tons of emotion, and amazing performances.  Robert De Niro leads the incredible ensemble, with Al Pacino and Joe Pesci giving awards-worthy performances.  These men haven’t been this good since the 90’s and it’s amazing to see how great they still are.  The Irishman is a movie about living with your past and living with the decisions you have made, something Scorsese is battling with here as a director who has made his name in the gangster genre for nearly fifty years.  This is another Scorsese masterpiece and the best movie of 2019.

An Idiots Top 10 Films Of 2019
Oh hello. Lovely to be back on this blog. I was last here reviewing Slender Man in September 2018. Let me tell you, Slender Man will not be appearing in this list. Because it wasn’t released in 2019 and also it’s absolute shite. Also not on the list is Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse because it came out in the UK last year. The rest all came out in the UK this year. If you’re interested, it would have been number 2 if I had included it because it’s absolutely incredible. Thank you. As Bloc Party sang: so here we are. It’s the end of 2019 and I’ve seen some films and now I’m going to talk about them as if I’m at all qualified to tell you which ones were good. Imagine that. No need. Here we go! NUMBER 10 - Judy (Rupert Goold) This entire order is going to be wrong because I don’t have the time to sit and put them in the perfect order, I am a busy boy. Get off my case. Anyway, Judy! I love a biopic and I’m a homosexual man that likes the arts. So a Judy Garland biopic is very much up my Straße. She was a wonderfully messed up and fabulous woman. So tragic. So beautiful. So fascinating. I think this film does a really great job of showing all of that. Renee Zellwegar is a perfect casting, she really does Judy justice (working title for Judge Judy).  NUMBER 9 - Pain and Glory (Pedro Almodóvar) Quite surprised this made it into the list but here it is. It’s a really beautiful film. Antonio Banderas is quite phenomenal in it and deserves the Oscar buzz he’s getting. It’s a captivating performance. One of the better depictions of addiction I’ve seen. It’s heartbreaking, funny, moving and you never get bored despite nothing huge happening. It’s a character study and it’s brilliant. NUMBER 8 - Green Book (Peter Farrelly) Uh oh. I’ve gone there. I understand the criticism and I understand that some would say “If you really got it, then you wouldn’t like the film”. All I can say to that is... I felt warm and fuzzy at the end and I can’t pretend I didn’t. I like feeling warm and fuzzy and this film did that. It may not be true to life. But neither was Bohemian Rhapsody and I still enjoyed that. As long as you’re aware of the jumps that these films make, then just enjoy them for the film that they are. They’re not documentaries. It’s a fun and moving film about a friendship that either did or didn’t exist, depending who you ask/what interviews you watch. I’m not sure what my opinion is on putting a filter on history. There will always be films that do so but there will also always be films that don’t. Shouldn’t we be able to have both? Genuinely don’t know the answer. But I enjoyed this film and can’t pretend I didn’t.  NUMBER 7 - Stan & Ollie (John S. Baird) Yeah mate, I don’t care. This didn’t get what it deserved. It’s stunning, quite frankly. Again, I love a biopic and this does everything I need from one. It’s incredibly similar to Judy in that it’s about Hollywood legends towards the end of their career trying to make a final bit of money by playing shows in Britain. There’s something so poignant about studying these legendary people at the end of their careers. People who were at the very top. Unbelievably famous and successful but their star is waning. It breaks my heart. This is also a beautiful look at a friendship and that sort of stuff gets me more than a romance. I’ve been single my whole life and friendships mean a great deal to me. I can watch a moving romance and shed a tear but films about long lasting friendships can leave me in pieces. I audibly sobbed when I saw this film. That’s enough to get it into the top 10. NUMBER 6 - Can You Ever Forgive Me? (Marielle Heller) I adored this film. Melissa McCarthy and Richard E Grant were sublime. What a fascinating story. It’s a film I’ve thought about here and there for most of the year. I can still picture so much of it and had no idea I was enjoying it so much whilst I was watching it. It’s really stayed with me. Again, friendship is a big element of this and a theme is certainly becoming apparent in the films I love. This film is funny and weird and makes you want to sit at a New York bar and just chat to someone and learn everything about their crazy life. I want to go right now and bump into someone like Lee Israel or Jack Hock. Cities like New York and London and full of people like them and that’s why I bloody love them so much.  NUMBER 5 - Honey Boy (Alma Har’el) A moving film written by Shia LaBeouf about his alcoholic dad. Noah Jupe plays the young Otis (based on Shia) and is exceptional. One of the most impressive performances from a child actor that I’ve seen.  Lucas Hedges is always a treat to see. What an actor. And Shia plays a version of his own dad and is also amazing. Just some really fucking great acting on display in this film. It’s really well made, looks incredible and explores the father/son relationship with brutality but also quite touchingly. It’s an impressive piece of work. NUMBER 4 - Sorry We Missed You (Ken Loach) Having seen this film and not long afterwards seen the Tories win a majority... there isn’t much more heartbreaking to be honest. Ken Loach’s last two films (The other being I, Daniel Blake) have shown the stark reality of a Tory government and if anyone on the planet can watch these films and then put a cross in a box for the Tories without conscience... well I’m not sure you’re human. This film broke my heart because I knew it was a reality for so many people. I also knew that some families have it even worse. I can’t bear thinking about it but sometimes you have to put yourself through it because how else are we going to fight these evil pricks if we don’t remind ourselves what they’re doing to people? This is a beautiful look at a modern working class British family and some of the family moments made me cry. The teenage son in particular is a character that I wanted to slap and hug at the same time. As bleak as you’d expect from Ken Loach and I wouldn’t have him any other way. NUMBER 3 - Booksmart (Olivia Wilde) Quite the contrast to the previous film! I seldom enjoy American comedy films. American comedy isn’t really for me and comedy films usually aren’t either. So I wasn’t expecting much from this film but goodness me I loved it. I can’t remember why I loved it so much but I know that I did. I laughed out loud at least twice which is incredibly rare for a miserable old bastard like me. Again, friendship is the main theme here which is probably why I loved it so much. It’s also just great to see two young girls not giving a shit. I get really depressed by the way young girls feel so self conscious and are constantly worrying about what people think of them. Scared to look silly in front of people. It’s horrific and this film says a huge ‘fuck you’ to that bullshit. What a funny, silly and wonderful ride this film is. Hooray. NUMBER 2 - Avengers: Endgame (Anthony and Joe Russo) Quite basic of me but come on. It’s a pretty bloody incredible film. Not on its own of course. But if you’ve seen every Marvel movie, then this is one of the greatest things to experience. Every hero coming together in the most spectacular fashion. It’s a really impressive feat and I wonder how superhero films can ever better it. I would say, it’s hard not to pair it with Infinity War which is maybe unfair in terms of putting in a list of films from this year but still, to see that huge finale on the big screen this year was very exciting. I look forward to watching all of these films back to back in years to come. What a body of work. And there’s more to bloody come! NUMBER 1 - Eighth Grade (Bo Burnham) What a film. The most perfect exploration of the awful things modern teenage girls go through. I cringed for her more than a film has ever made me cringe. It was excruciating. A heartbreaking look at how phones and the internet affect kids these days but not a film that’s entirely damning of it. It’s easy to be patronising when it comes to technology and how kids interact with it. This doesn’t do that. It celebrates being young today by showing how hard it can be but also how small victories can mean the world. Elsie Fisher gives the most spectacular performance as Kayla Day. Honestly, really quite astonishing for a 16 year old. Jake Ryan who plays Gabe is the scene stealer of the film. What a great performance. It’s just a really special film and I absolutely adored it. The whole year I was waiting for a film with Oscar buzz to come along and replace it as my favourite but it hasn’t happened. Watch it however you can! Well there you go. A load of opinions from someone who has no idea what he’s talking about. That’s the internet for you. Bye pricks.

Highlights of Entertainment World Throughout the Year
New Post has been published on https://entertainmentguideto.com/trending/highlights-of-entertainment-world-throughout-the-year/
Highlights of Entertainment World Throughout the Year
As 2018 is nearing the end, AceShowbiz is offering a recap of each month’s biggest event throughout the year.
AceShowbiz – A series of both unfortunate and fortunate events have filled 2018. Throughout the year, people are dealing with deaths, births, weddings, new romances and separations. Although we’ve lost some of stunning figures in entertainment world, with deaths also come births. This year also sees some celebrities welcoming new addition to their families.
Giving colors to the events happening this year are long-anticipated royal weddings. In addition, people get to witness some high-profile romances and even whirlwind romances in the hollywood entertainment.
As 2018 is nearing the end, AceShowbiz is offering a recap of each month’s biggest event throughout the year. Check them out below.
1. JANUARY
WENN/FayesVision
2018 had a rather bleak start with Mark Salling’s death of suicide by hanging on Tuesday, January 30. The actor, who was known for his role as Noah “Puck” Puckerman on FOX’s musical series “Glee“, was found lifeless, hanging from a tree near a riverbed in Sunland, the area where he lived.
His death arrived as he awaited sentencing after he was pleading guilty to possession pornography. Prior to his passing Mark allegedly attempted to commit suicide in the bedroom of his L.A. home before he freaked out and called his roommate for help.
Following news of his passing, a slew of his former “Glee” co-stars paid tribute to him on social media. Among them were Matthew Morrison, Iqbal Theba and vocal arranger Tim Davis.
2. FEBRUARY
Instagram
Contrary to last month, February brought an exciting news. Kylie Jenner shocked everyone by dropping a major bombshell. After it was long-speculated that she was pregnant with her first child with boyfriend Travis Scott (II), the “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” star finally confirms the rumors on February 4.
Taking to Instagram, the makeup mogul announced the arrival of her daughter Stormi Webster. The baby was born on February 1st.
“I’m sorry for keeping you in the dark through all the assumptions,” Kylie told online devotees. “I understand you are used to me bringing you along and all my journeys. My pregnancy was one I chose not to do in front of the world. I knew for myself I needed to prepare for this role of a life time in the most positive stress free and healthy way I knew how.”
3. MARCH

Spring means a new season of “The Bachelor“. This year’s season though, might be different from the previous ones and one could argue that it might be the most controversial season in the franchise’s history.
Arie Luyendyk Jr., who was pointed as the leading man of season 22 of the ABC dating show, was dubbed the most hated Bachelor after he publicly dumped fiancee and winner Becca Kufrin for the runner-up, Lauren Burnham.
The race car driver met up with Becca a couple weeks after getting engaged during the finale. Becca initially thought they were going to spend the weekend together but it turned out they met up because Arie wanted to call things off with her as he still had feelings for Lauren.
“I felt like the more I was hanging out with you the more I was losing the chance of reconciling with her,” Arie told a shocked Becca. “We left Peru and I didn’t want to be as honest with you about how conflicted I was.”
Arie is now happily engaged to Lauren and is planning to have their wedding next year.

Actress Allison Mack, who is known for her role as Chloe Sullivan on “Smallville“, made headlines after news of her getting arrested for alleged sex trafficking, sex trafficking conspiracy and forced labor conspiracy broke. She was indicted for an alleged leading role in the NXIVM sex cult, which leader Keith Raniere was arrested late last month in Mexico.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Eastern District of New York, both Mack and Reniere were accused of branding their victims and forcing them to participate in sex acts through the various self-help programs that Raniere established within his umbrella organization, NXIVM. Mack was allegedly “one of the women in the first level of the pyramid immediately below Raniere.”
Following the arrest, fellow actress Samia Shoaib revealed that she was approached by Mack as she tried to lure her into the twisted world of the alleged sex cult. The Pakistan-born actress alleged that Mack sent her overly friendly and frantic emails in attempt to get her in a “women’s circle” back in March 2013.
While Mack didn’t seem like a bad person, Shoaib said that one email stuck out to her the most. “Thank you for last night! I had a lovely time with you and [your friend]. You are both delicious women,” Mack allegedly wrote in an email after their final dinner in the same year.

One of the biggest weddings in 2018 arrived in May when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle officially tied the knot on Saturday, May 19 at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle. Followed by 10 bridesmaids and page boys, including Harry’s four-year-old nephew Prince George and three-year-old niece Princess Charlotte, the former “Suits” actress walked up the steps of the church in an exquisite white dress with flowing train and long lace veil designed by Givenchy artistic director Clare Waight Keller. She completed her stunning bride look with the Queen Mary Diamond Bandeau Tiara, made in 1932 and borrowed from Queen Elizabeth II.
In the procession, which was attended by famous figures including Abigail Spencer, Priyanka Chopra, James Corden, Amal and George Clooney among others, Prince Charles replaced Meghan’s father Thomas Markle to walk her down the aisle. Thomas was unable to attend the nuptials since he was suffering from health issues.
During the ceremony, which was conducted by Dean of Windsor David Conner, U.S. Bishop Michael Curry made a passionate address while the guests were treated to a gospel rendition of 1961 song “Stand by Me” by Karen Gibson and The Kingdom Choir. Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, officiated the marriage vows, with Harry and Meghan then exchanging wedding bands.
One of the sweet moments from the nuptials was when the camera caught Harry whispering to his bride, stating the words, “You look amazing.” The happy couple later announced in October that they are expecting their first child together.

Fans were shocked on July 24 after it was reported that Demi Lovato was rushed to the hospital in Los Angeles for a suspected drug overdose. Law enforcement said Demi, who has been open about her struggles with substance abuse for years, was treated with Narcan, an emergency treatment to reverse the effects of a narcotic overdose.
The “Heart Attack” hitmaker was later revealed to be “awake and with her family” following the near-fatal health scare. “Demi is awake and with her family who want to express thanks to everyone for the love, prayers and support,” her rep said in a statement. “Some of the information being reported is incorrect and they respectfully ask for privacy and not speculation as her health and recovery is the most important thing right now.”
Taking to Instagram to address her condition in August, the “Cool for the Summer” singer said, “I want to thank God for keeping me alive and well,” before thanking her fans. “I am forever grateful for all of your love and support throughout this past week and beyond. Your positive thoughts and prayers have helped me navigate through this difficult time. I want to thank my family, my team, and the staff at Cedars-Sinai who have been by my side this entire time. Without them I wouldn’t be here writing this letter to all of you.”

Alongside Rose McGowan, Asia Argento was one of MeToo movement activists after she accused disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein of sexual harassment in October 2017. However, things took a twisted turn after it was reported that the “XXX” star was involved in a sexual assault scandal of her own.
Actor and musician Jimmy Bennett claimed that the actress sexually harassed him when he was only 17 in 2013. According to the document, the two, who played mother and son respectively in “The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things“, met at the Ritz-Carlton in Marina del Rey with Bennett’s family member before the “Marie Antoinette” actress asked for sometime alone with the actor. The mother of two then gave him alcohol and kissed him. Afterward, she gave him an oral sex before they had a sexual intercourse.
It was also mentioned in the document that the sexual encounter with Argento was so traumatic for Bennett that it affected his mental health, career and income. It reportedly left him feeling “extremely confused, mortified, and disgusted.” The “Poseidon” actor later sued the Italian actress and director for $3.5 million in damages for the intentional infliction of emotional distress, lost wages, assault and battery.
It was revealed that Argento then paid $380,000 to Bennett in November 2017 as a part of the agreement. In exchange, Bennet had to give a picture of him and the actress in bed along with its copyright to Argento.

The world lost one of talented souls in September. Rapper Mac Miller was found lifeless from an apparent drug overdose in his San Fernando Valley home on September 7. He was 26.
The tragic news comes just months after his breakup with singer Ariana Grande, who was engaged to comedian and “Saturday Night Live” star Pete Davidson” at that time.
The “Swimming” spitter previously shared his concern in an interview, saying, “was not happy and I was on lean very heavy.” Miller added, “I was so f**ked up all the time it was bad. My friends couldn’t even look at me the same. I was lost.”
Despite his passing, friends and fellow musicians are trying to keep his music and legacy with the launch of Mac Miller Circles Fund, a new foundation meant to help provide resources and programming for arts education in underserved communities. The foundation was launched at a benefit concert called “Mac Miller: A Celebration of Life” on October 31 at Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, which featured performances from Travis Scott (II), SZA, Chance the Rapper, Miguel, Ty Dolla $ign and more.

2018 is indeed a hard year for Ariana Grande. The “God Is a Woman” singer has yet to emotionally recover from the trauma she had from the bombing attack at her Manchester in 2017, and she had to face the harsh reality when one of her ex-boyfriend, Mac Miller, died in suicide. The emotional struggle apparently took a toll on her whirlwind relationship with Pete as it was reported that they decided to call off their engagement in October.
It was said that the “Sweetener” singer thought “this wasn’t the right time for them.” While Pete was understandably heartbroken over this, he knew that this is the best for them.
However, they were allegedly not ruling out any possibility of getting back together as the two are still pretty much in love with each other. “They have a very special connection, partly because Pete has been there for Ariana during a painful time in her life. She will forever and always be grateful to Pete,” a source claimed. “They felt constantly under a microscope. They felt that they literally had no privacy and it really took a toll on their relationship,” said a source.

Cardi B surprised fans when she announced her and husband Offset‘s split on late Tuesday, December 4 via Instagram. In a video, the “Bodak Yellow” hitmaker admitted people had been “bugging” her about their relationship before she finally decided to address it in the clip.
“I’ve been trying to work things out with my baby father,” she said, before confirming, “We’re not together anymore.” Claiming that they’ve “got a lot of love for each other,” she said they would remain “good friends” and “good business partners.” She added, “He’s always somebody that I run to … to talk to.”
While she didn’t detail the reason of their separation, Cardi shared, “Things haven’t been just working out between us for a long time. It’s nobody’s fault. We just grew out of love,” hinting that their split was amicable. “It may take time to get a divorce,” she added, before ending it by saying, “And I’m gonna always have a lot of love for him, because he is my daughter’s father.”
The shocking bombshell arrived after reports of the Migos rapper tried to cheat on Cardi again with another female rapper emerged. A woman claimed the rapper, whose real name is Kiari Cephus, wanted to have a threesome with Cuban Doll and her friend.
Cardi and Offset later sparked reconciliation rumors after they were spotted vacationing together in Puerto Rico just a week after the former announced their split. However, the “Money” spitter clarified that she didn’t get back together with Offset. “I just had to get fucked. That’s all,” the Bronx rapper slyly said in an Instagram video.

"The Babadook"- A new classic in the world of horror.
It's not too often that I am as amazed and enthralled with a film as I was with 2014's phenomena of horror "The Babadook." It's a film that from its very first moment has you captive in its dark tale of grief and suffering, unable to turn away from the screen because you are so completely absorbed into the exquisitely crafted narrative. Clever and deliciously frightening, it's easily a new classic in the world of horror. In the six years that have passed since the tragic loss of her husband in a car accident, Amelia Vanek (Essie Davis) has lead a troubled and depressing existence as the single mother of her deeply troubled son Samuel. (Noah Wiseman) One night, as she goes to read Samuel a bedtime story, he suggests a mysterious book that Amelia was previously unaware of: "Mr. Babadook", the story of a frightening creature that stalks and tortures those who become aware of its existence. Samuel is disturbed by the twisted story and the images contained therein, and soon, becomes obsessed with the idea that Mr. Babadook is all too real. At the same time, mysterious phenomena begin to plague the largely sleepless Amelia, and it appears that with her quickly-slipping sanity, she too will begin to see the demented figure that has started to torment her son's fragile psyche. Written and directed by Jennifer Kent, "The Babadook" is a powerhouse of emotional terror, dealing with complex themes of grief, depression, mental illness and even hatred. It's very clever in its use of ambiguous and evocative storytelling, allowing the audience to reach their own conclusions and to theorize on the goings-on in many key sequences. Like many greats of the genre, it's a film that from the start encourages critical analysis and personal interpretation, which helps each and every person take from it what they will. It's filled to burst with metaphorical imagery and hauntingly atmospheric visual motifs, leading to an all-encompassing sense of dread that very few films in the past have managed to capture. I was left in literal awe with just how exquisitely crafted a tale it was, and Kent deserves nothing but the utmost praise and respect for what she accomplishes here. This is also very much an actor's film, relying heavily on the presentation of a single mother and her child on the brink of collapse. Not only does the script perfectly establish and continue to flesh out our two leads throughout the running time, but both Davis and Wiseman are revelations for the film. Davis gives a performance that in every way deserves all the recognition she could receive. It's the role of a lifetime, and she consistently knocks it out of the part as a mother pushed to and over the edge by the circumstances of her life- both those in and out of her control. She is simply incredible and makes for one of the most compelling leads in a horror film I've seen in some time. Wiseman is a very talented and lovable child actor, and he does great with the part of the deeply troubled Samuel. Samuel is a disturbed young boy who is obsessed with his mother, and is obviously dealing with the repercussions of growing up without a father. Wiseman does exceptionally well for a boy as young as he is, and injects a lot of complexity beneath the surface. Bravo, young sir. Bravo. Beyond that, every facet of the production is absolutely spot-on and contributes towards creating a masterpiece of modern cinema. Radek Ladczuk's stunning cinematography perfectly compliments the complex and tragic nature of the storyline, delivering us beautifully crafted images that work wonders for the tale being told. Composer Jed Kurzel does a fine job with crafting a subtle and appropriate score that accentuates every scene with class and elegance without distracting from what we are seeing. Production and costume design is top-notch stuff, creating a world that feels true to life while also having just a slight enough hint of exaggeration to build towards the moody sense of tone established. And the editing by Simon Njoo is just spot-on, with a grand sense of pacing that helps each and every scene build in tension like a wire ready to snap at any instant. There is only one simple and elegant way to say it- "The Babadook" is a flawless classic in the genre. Despite only being two years old at the time I write this review, it has already shown itself to be one of the greatest horror films ever crafted, and it will without doubt continue to be admired for years, decades and generations to come. And thus, it easily earns a perfect 10 out of 10 from me. Worth seeing for everyone who loves cinema, horror or otherwise.

Is she really pregnant? WHO IS HER BABY DADDY?!?! (Honestly if Michael B. Jordan looked into my eyes I’d probably get pregnant too) She’s so tired oh no. She’s the first black woman to host?? Are you kidding me.
That really was shocking but at the same time it’s like yesssss look at you doing so many big things I’m like a proud mom… no niece.. She’s definitely more of a cool auntie type. Like my mom’s younger sister or something. Nick is so cute.
Why did this guy name himself Mustard? What kind of stage name is Mustard? I love Tiffany Haddish so much omg.
It's not a surprise that Chadwick Boswick won the best hero award.. I mean did you see Black Panther?
Ehh... I love her [Madelaine Petsch] but I feel like other people did a lot better. Oh thi (what the fuck are you trying to say here?)
(Did I just lose my attention... Oh my god my attention span.”

“Are you into black girls” is the most relatable phrase I’ve said too many times in my life “I CAN SEE YO LUNGS.” A VIBRATOR. THEY ARE FIGHTING OVER A VIBRATOR.
I’m crying I’m literally sitting here watching this in the dining room with my boyfriend’s parents and the face his step-mom just made was fucking priceless. I’m obsessed with this song. [“Warrior’] Please sing to me whenever. I would be afraid to slip and fall on my ass to be honest. No wonder they are opening for Beyoncé. Wow.

PAULY D. THEEEEE CAAAABSSSS AAAARRRREEEEE HEEEEEYYYYYYYAAAAAAAHHHH. I’m still annoyed with Jenni over how she acted over Mike’s engagement but you guy can hear all about that later this week in my segment where I spaz out about Jersey Shore. I love 13 Reasons Why a whole lot.
Same I really liked all the character development this season. Hannah seemed a lot more real, human, and alive this season. Still traumatized about Tyler though. *Cringes* YESSS LOVE SIMON. Omg he is shiney I like it. He’s so precious. Omg Seth why. Haha accept the award in a robe. High respect. ((4th Commercial Break))
I mean the Kardashian’s won but who’s surprised.
Why is Kim Kardashian wearing cornrow braids....just stop. Swallowing copious amounts of black guys’ cum doesn’t make you black hun. Oh that was mean...oops. The amount of red I’m seeing is lovely please don’t stop. Michael B. Jordan is so beautiful. Inside and out. God bless.

WHY IS HIS NAME MUSTARD?!?!?
((6th Commercial Break))
((My Mom called me and I stopped paying attention for a bit. She claimed she just wanted to see my face but she just saw me.))
I love these trail blazer awards. I really know this woman well but I’ve heard of her kind of. And it’s amazing what she stands for. Jersey Shore is the greatest show I swear. Don’t ever change.
RAAAAAAHHHHNNNN STAAAAAHHPPPPP. That one boy (That’s Noah.)  is so pale. Oh my. I know the lights are bright but goddamn. ((7th Commercial Break))
Is she wearing a curtain….? Tiffany Haddish is wearing a literal curtain... I love and hate fashion so much... honestly she's kinda rocking it but why tho…?
I really need to catch up on Riverdale. I’m slacking big time. That’s so cute I think one of the Stranger Things cast member FaceTime’d her!! Chris Pratt is precious protect him at all cost. “Don’t. Be. A. Turd.“
"Don't be a turd"- great advice, Chris Pratt. Love you long time.
He’s so weird. Please don’t ever change.
I could have done without the religious stuff just because I am agnostic but I respect it and I respect that he acknowledged his white privilege in his speech. ((8th Commercial Break)) I love Zendaya so much. I love Ansel in anything he will ever do ever. (Unless it’s bad I guess but you know what I mean) ((9th Commercial Break)) Damn Gaga
Lady Gaga looks so good.
I bet Black Panther is going to win best movie....it better win.. Ayeee
Black motherfucking panther omg
Funny how they panned in on Kim Kardashian and her cornrow wearing, cultural appropriating ass during the acceptance of an award for a movie that was mainly about Black empowerment… don’t get me wrong I still love her though. And we are outta heeerrreeeee
