For real though watching yhs has lead me to the conclusion that despite Grian seemingly has such an active fight instinct....most of the time he actually doesnt respond to situations with half the fight attributed to him.

When faced with a traumatic situation Grian will absolutely bare his teeth at the nearest threat. He's absolutely vitriolic towards Sam at all times without fail and has even initiated physical violence in their confrontations once or twice. He's often on edge, often quick to angry outbursts, just overall rather hostile when faced with a dangerous/frightening/harmful situation. Which definitely indicates his main response to these scenarios is to fight. Hard.

However the more I engaged with fanon the more I faltered. A lot of fanon does portray him as very hostile in the face of trouble. Which should make sense. Canonically Grian knows when to say no, when to argue, and even sometimes when to physically fight back. Any episode with Grian present will likely have examples of him pushing back against harmful situations. And yet something always feels very Off about that being the start and end of it in a lot of fanon. Which led me down an interesting line of thinking.

I honestly suspect that Grian's volatility and will to fight back isn't nearly as strong as one would believe from observing him on surface level. In fact, his on the surface hostility feels like it's borderline a facade altogether to be honest.

I mean look at examples throughout canon of Grian in distressing situations.

Yhs halloween episode. The one where Taurtis got stabbed. And the following situation where Grian is famously forced to dress up like Taurtis. Grian would later be very upset about Sam stabbing Taurtis, however his initial response was to nervously laugh and even give Sam appeasing praise. I mean, Grian says "you weren't supposed to stab him" pretty clearly, but he anxiously laughs before and afterwards and even tells Sam he's proud of him when prompted. Obviously Grian was very upset about the whole thing later on after taking Taurtis to the hospital however in the moment he's mostly silent and when he's not he's just nervously laughing throughout, even agreeing with whatever *Sam* says when he's outright prompted by name for an opinion, then when everyone else tries to play it off casually Grian actually goes along with it almost entirely, even agreeing to let Taurtis drive him home for some reason. Then, according to his own story, he had an opportunity to talk to police at the hospital and he didn't incriminate Sam. He knew they were supicious of *him* but he still didn't incriminate the actual killer. "I told them I found him like that" Grian alleged. Honestly it sounds like he didn't tell them much of *anything* before being released and making the walk back to meet Sam. The next morning Grian was significantly more vocally upset about Taurtis being stabbed and expressed being upset with Sam however he seemed significantly more anxious than he was angry throughout the interaction. Then Grian immediately pretty readily agreed to go with Sam and Yuki to school and willingly put on the Taurtis outfit before the other's even started with the threats in the name of making things 'less awkward'. He certainly objected, however he was once again a lot more anxious than angry, nervously laughing, coming up with really weak unimportant excuses, and agreeing within ten seconds of being asked. Pretty much the rest of his time dressed as Taurtis goes very similarly. He objects to most things he's told to do and brings up Sam stabbing Taurtis multiple times despite the other's not wanting him to but is primarily nervous rather than hostile and he never actuslly puts up enough resistence for it to stick. Even when the other's were stuffing plastic down his throat and he told them he thought it may kill him Grian still did it and told the other's he *liked* it when pushed. Eventually he got out of it by running on Rowan's command and no sooner than being told to get out of there. When Sam found him again Grian immediately even reverted back to doing as he was told and cowering away from him in obvious fear up until Okami and Rowan showed up and shoved Grian behind them. Then he *still went home that night* knowing Sam would be there. When they found Taurtis it was pretty clear that Grian was hoping Taurtis would help him once he got his memory back however when instructed to stop telling Taurtis who he was Grian for the most part did aside from subtle pushing about the familiarity of certain things and then later when Taurtis got his memory back and made it pretty clear he wasn't going to help Grian? Grian conceded. He spent a good few minutes arguing about everything he'd gone through- everything they both had- and insisting it wasn't okay but when Taurtis made it pretty clear he wasn't going to do anything and they collectively agreed Grian was the real problem? Grian kinda...stopped. When Taurtis made it clear he wasn't going to be helping, Grian just kinda fell back into their normal routine with the other's, and when Sam demanded an 'apology soda' from Grian for what he'd apparently done, Grian bought it for him saying "If that's what it takes for things to go back to normal".

Let's also look at Grian's involvement with the law during/shortly-after the Halloween situation. When Sam and Yuki dragged him to join the Yakuza he was upset and objected anxiously but caved as soon as he got pushback. When Sam wanted to steak from the Yakuza he once again got objections from Grian who nervously insisted that it was a terrible idea but once again Sam shoved aside Grian's complaints and once again Grian just kinda fell into place despite being upset. When the police also started threatening the trio's lives to work for them, Grian objected. He questioned if they were allowed to do that and was very openly not happy about any of it, however he very quickly submitted under pressure. Both times Grian was locked in solitary confinement he loudly protested his sanity and both times he voiced how disturbing it was on a really deep level being locked up like that but both times when he was let out he just went with the other two again and let them brush it all off- even knowing full well they let him out to be *death fodder*. He just went with them relatively quietly save for maybe a token remark or two. Honestly the large majority of this bs Grian was involved with was under physical threat and he almost always bent under it. Even down to his fight with Pie over Ellen. Pie showed up and started challenging their relationship. Sam, Taurtis, and Yuki insisted they have a knife fight. Grian said *no*. Pie said yes. Sam, Taurtis, and Yuki affirmed there would be a knife fight. Grian objects more. Everyone else present discusses how the knife fight will work. Grian gets stabbed. Grian suggests they just ask Ellen who they want to date *obviously*. Ellen chooses nobody and leaves. Grian was upset but then just kinda accepts it and goes on with what the whole group was doing before.

And just to round this out with one more example. The Starwars Cosplay Incident. Apparently Sam burst into Grian's room, undressed him, shoved him into Leia Cosplay complete with fake boobs, and locked him in the basement for three days. Grian sits there for three days until Taurtis rescues him. Grian has a moment of being rightfully very angry and finally even tries to physically attack Sam, demanding to know if Taurtis is aware of what Sam did to him and insisting that they can't expect everything to be fine now. Except it kinda...was. Taurtis stopped Grian from attacking Sam, they both brushed it off as a joke and not a big deal, and then they went to school. And Grian just *went*. He walked with the other two, he wore the outfit Sam put him in, and he just kinda moved on. Grian would later object when the clones tried to pull him out of class, snapping that he just wants to learn and get an education like a normal person and demanding to know why he's not allowed to. But he goes! And when he's released he walks right back to Sam and Taurtis, makes some bitter remarks to them, and let's them shove it all aside as if it's unimportant. Later when it's Grian, Sam, and a member of school staff alone in the closet, some innapropriate remarks are made to Grian. He very quickly says he's reporting the remarks made by school staff but Sam tells him not to be rude and it doesn't seem Grian ever does. Later on when Geode makes a comment about Grian's outfit as well Sam and Taurtis start pondering *giving* Grian to them. Grian repeatedly said *no* but with a lot more despair than defiance and we don't even know if he'd have actually followed through with fighting back if they'd tried to actually give him away because they were interrupted before the situation got to that point. Grian once again just let the other's move on as if that didn't happen and continued following them around, though! And he wore that damn outfit he was very explicitly uncomfortable with. All day.

Which is kinda all to say that when it comes to fighting back Grian is a lot more bark than bite.

Grian throws out a lot of bitter remarks, makes his objections very apparent in most things, and even has more than one vitriolic rant to his abuser(s) throughout the series. But that layer of his responses to things is so fragile that it tends to fall away within minutes- if that, sometimes *seconds*.

Of course ive seen other people take note of this and argue that it means Grian actually *wants* to do these thingd he's objecting to but I think that's silly. If it were just things like group crime or violent acts then id possibly see it but Grian puts up the same kind of response to having plastic shoved down his throat and to being locked in the basement for days which there's no way in hell he was any kind of okay with. The more likely scenario here isn't that he secretly wanted to do any of these things and made his resistence weak so he could pretend he tried while still doing it.

The likely scenario here is that his fight response is much more for show than one would think. Because Grian's strongest most influential response to things really never seems to be to fight. Aggression is really hardly Grian's overall stance on handling a distressing situation.

Much more frequently you see the most influence coming from completely other instinctive responses.

Looking for outside help in adults, friends, and classmates like when Okami and Rowan protected him during his time dressed as Taurtis or when Grian tried desperately to get Taurtis to be on his side and help him after Sam seriously hurt him both when Taurtis first got his memory back after Halloween and when Taurtis found Grian in the basement during the Starwars Cosplay Incident, hell, even during his fight with Pie it can be argued that Grian calling for them to just ask Ellen was an appeal to outside help as he hoped Ellen would agree to end the fight and save him from the situation as a result.

Running away- or trying to at least- from the threat. Most notably seen back during the halloween incident when he quite literally ran out the back of the gym and hid from Sam+Yuki then hiding behind Okami and Rowan when they showed up in an attempt to flee from Sam which is how he got away from the other's at all during that situation. Grian's consistent need to exclaim every so often how much he wants to go back to Europe is a subtler example of this, though, of Grian's urge to get away.

Honestly though being quiet and moving as he's directed seems to be the most common winning response. You see little sparks of reaction from him but most of the time Grian is just quiet, nervously laughing, following Taurtis and Sam around in what they ask of him, and even outright appeasement strategies to maintain a calm environment. This is So common from Grian. This is what usually wins out. His quiet nervous laughter and agreeing with Sam when Taurtis is first stabbed. The fact that he didn't tell the police what Sam did when alone with them during questioning and then immediately walked to meet up with Sam and went to school with Sam+Yuki with literally no objections. The fact that he didn't say no like *at all* to putting on the Taurtis outfit in the name of not making things awkward and complied within seconds of first being asked. How he proceeded to do what he was asked all day and didn't make any move to get away until Rowan outright instructed him to run. The fact that he went back! The fact that he went along with it when they joined the Yakuza and when they stole from the Yakuza and when they joined up with the cops and when they *forced him into a knife fight*. How Grian eventually just lost his spark of defiance after Taurtis first got his memories back and made it clear he wasn't helping Grian, with Grian agreeing to buy Sam a fucking *apology soda* if it meant things would go back to normal after hearing everyone else agree that *he* was the problem in all he'd been put through. The way he just goes back to following Sam and Taurtis after they got him locked in solitary confinement on blatant lies because they *wanted* to. The way he walks around school with the other two while wearing cosplay that made him feel gross and uncomfortable that Sam had literally physically forced onto him and just went along with what he was told in the end.

Grian always puts up a fight but not a good one. He makes side comments, he makes objections, he even has more than one emotional rant about the hell he's put through, however this never wins out in the end and this presenting fight is very frequently just barely holding down much stronger freeze and fawn instincts that usually win out pretty damn quick.

Which!!! In a situation like Grian's it actually makes significantly more sense to have strong freeze and fawn responses than to have a strong fight response! I mean, think about it. A fight response is primarily useful in scenarios in which it's possible to take strong action to remove the threat. You're attacked by a dog so you throw stuff at it till it backs away. You're picked on by an upperclassman so you punch em' in the nose expecting fully that they'll leave you be after. Someone attacks you while you're walking home so you try and stab them with your key. Fighting is an incredibly good response for random/one time attacks. If you're ever kidnapped you wanna scream and punch and kick and make a scene so they can't take you to a secondary location. You fight. Fighting is optimal for unexpected stranger conflicts. That's not the situation Grian's in though. Grian suffers from serious long term physical, emotional, and financial abuse. He's in a country he doesn't have residency or family in, he doesn't have a readily available source of income, he doesn't have his own mode of transportation, it seems that most of the time he doesnt have a clear way home, he's often dealing with long term friends of his and seemingly his biggest source of support prior to this situation, even back in Europe he doesn't have much support system to run to given his parents canonically left him, he's frequently under threat of physical danger, etc. This is not the kind of situation in which an intense primary fight response helps. This is the type of situation in which an intense primary fight response either gets you seriously hurt or wandering the streets with no way to provide for yourself. It would likely be similar if he presented an intense primary flight response to be honest. In long term abuse situations where there's no rational way of escaping safely or no rational place to escape to? Often the primary responses that promote survival are fawn and freeze. Appeasing the aggressor or sinking into the background. Those are your ways to stay alive when you can't expect to 'win' or escape. It absolutely makes more sense for Grian to have primary fawn and freeze responses than a primary fight response.

But then why does he present so much hostility? What's with all the bitter remarks and the attempts to voice objections and the occasional overt insults/screaming? How does a fawn/freeze response present as fight when first pressed at?? Well fun fact, I have experience with that kind of presentation because I *was* that kind of presentation. Oh boy did I try to push strong fight responses towards my abusive father with token resistences and petty remarks even though most of the time I crumpled under the slightest pressure and spent my time ignoring the problem or dissociating or trying very hard to avoid future conflicts. You put up a token front of fight even if that's never going to be your primary response for the sake of your own mental health, really. To assure the world- and *you*- knows that you don't *want* this situation. So you can say you tried. Out of some misguided hope that your attempted bravado won't be seen through and that maybe this time they'll just stop pushing instead of calling the bluff. Which. Makes sense with Grian as well. I mean looking at the times he really truly goes off before reverting back to a more appeasing stance, most notably his rants from when Taurtis first got his memory back as well as from when he got out of the basement during the Starwars Cosplay Incident. Most of those rants were taken up by Grian loudly and passionately reiterating what he'd been through, insisting he was the victim, and calling Sam an awful person before the defiance fades out and he becomes more willing to just go about their day. It's one attempted push hoping the other parties present will vie in his favour and a reassertion that he's not okay with this and that *he* is being hurt which gives way within minutes to a much duller attitude. That's just a painfully familiar format. Adding on Grian's token objections/passive aggressive remarks to many situations that distress him and how quickly those objections give way as dismissed by others. That kind of behaviour feels strongly like an attempt to preserve your own mental wellbeing as much as possible with the knowledge that you tried to some extent and with just generally hearing out loud that you are the victim even if from yourself. Grian's behaviour just really feels like a facade of defiance to cover up general helplessness which makes a Lot of sense for the scenario. Probably more than just plain defiance would.

Maeil (aka Daily)

there are two meanings to their ship name

first is, of course, their names mashed together but the second meanings is much cuter and the one fans use to explain their dynamic

When Mae found out their ship name was Maeil her first reaction was “Oh? Is it because I make sure to let Taeil hyung I love him daily?” while cuddling Taeil on a couch

he’s the same age as Mae’s older brother so she treats him as such

her brother is literally like “Are you replacing me with Taeil? I’m your reall brother!” and she’s just there sweating

part of Taeil’s hype squad and will fight donghyuck for the position of president

like the two were on vlive and spent a good fifteen minutes arguing about their positions in the club Mae won but donghyuck refuses to acknowledge it

he could be doing something simple and you can see Mae in the background with a big smile cheering

he’s also like her personal teddy bear whenever she wants cuddles and/or wants to rest

there are just multiple gifs floating around nct twt of Mae tackling Taeil for a hug or her just clinging to him on a couch because she’s either tired and wants to rest or just wants cuddles

absolutely adores his voice

there are multiple compilations on youtube about all the times Mae compliments Taeil on his voice and him just blushing the whole time

was lowkey intimidated bc the man is a fucking tree and basically towers over her

but then he saw him play around with some other trainees and that thought disappeared real quick

before debut there were times people could see Johnny walk somewhere and Mae is just trailing after him like a lost puppy more like running because the man’s legs are long and he walks faster

there was this one time someone asked where Mae was and Johnny just shuffled to the side to reveal her behind him

his large frame was just big enough to hide her from everyone’s vision unless you walk past the two

you know that one vid of predebut nct performing Under The Sea with Johnny wearing the fish head? Mae was supposed to join him dressed as Ariel but the idea was cut last minute

there was this one time Mae couldn’t see something bc she was too short so Johnny lifted her up and put her on his shoulders

okay enough about Mae’s height

during shows he’s always encouraging Mae to talk more when she seems unsure whether to give her input or not

johnny, after an interviewer asks a question: “what do you think Mae?”

absolutely melts whenever she does aegyo because no matter how old she is he’ll always see her as the cute kid who followed him everywhere

honestly it’s hard to pinpoint where Taeyong’s protective parental energy started getting directed to Mae

like it might’ve been somewhere predebut but she doesnt know when

she’s like 50% sure she just blanked out and suddenly Taeyong appeared in her life scolding her for not taking care of herself

it’s not like she’s complaining abt it she’s really grateful to have someone like him in her life

when her family got worried abt her joining a group filled with guys he personally went to her house and calmly explained how Mae will be taken care of and how the group will make sure that she’ll be safe

first person to know if there’s something between SM and Mae that the other members don’t know about

he was also the first member to know about what happened with Mae and her old company

she knows she can trust him with anything

he found her alone crying in one of the practice rooms and she just poured her heart out to him

you know how yuta acts with mark and winwin? yeah he does the same for Mae

if he isnt giving a hug to mark he’s all the way across the room with Mae giving her a back hug

she doesnt ignore him tho she just returns the affection

likes to jump on his back for a piggy back ride or just run and jump to give him a hug

there was this one clip that went viral of Yuta talking to someone and he just pauses for a moment before turning around to catch Mae, who seemingly came out of nowhere, into a hug and turned back to his conversation

neither yuta nor the other person seemed fazed so this seemed like a regular occurrence to them

he teaches her japanese!

its beneficial to both of them because Mae can learn and Yuta won’t forget any Japanese while living in Korea :D

one time Mae got sick with a fever and he just burst into her room with medicine and soup

Mae’s also one of the members who like to clown him

she’s the one of the reasons he already has gray hairs

Mae has a folder of embarrassing photos of Doyoung’s childhood that his brother sent to her and refuses to delete it

He never fails to make her laugh whenever she needs cheering up

they used to be shy around each other when he first joined the group but they caught each other having a midnight snack so they just talked at 3am eating ramen until doyoung found them and told them to go to bed

now it’s just tradition for them to go to a convenience store together and eat ramen or whatever snacks they decide to get

nobody is allowed to join them its only a MaeWoo thing

Mae has natural aegyo but Jungwoo has taught her to use it to her advantage which she does but not often

Older brother that doesn’t feel like an older brother

Majority of the time he kinda just feels like they’re the same age or younger so newer fans get shocked when they find out she’s younger

Like there was this one time Johnny the two were playing Smash Bros and Mark was whining because he lost and Mae was jumping in the background cheering it was his fourth loss in a row but he won’t say it

they were kinda awkward around each other at first so johnny literally had to stick them in a room together and didn’t let them leave until they talked to each other

it worked and they just vibed and rambled about different topics like trainee life and what mark’s life in Vancouver was like

speaking of Vancouver

one time during their stay in Vancouver they wanted to have a friend date but he lost her at a mall and took twenty minutes trying to find her until she used the announcement service to call him

he wouldve ask his Vancouver friends to go with them but some of them had a crush on mae so no <3

When she first starting writing songs and her own lyrics she went to Mark first and asked if the lyrics she wrote were good

They were amazing and Mark made sure to tell her that :D

mae’s reaction to his dream graduation was one of the saddest things czennies have seen so when she found out he was coming back she would not let go of him

Literally could not stop smiling whenever mark was with the rest of dream filming for Resonance

It’s just very wholesome and czennies are willing to riot if SM decides to separate them

Maechan

You know how I said Maehyun was the soft and uwu type of siblings? Well Maechan are the bickering type of siblings

You know the ones who like to bicker over minor things but still would protect each other for life

they have so much dirt on each other on trainee days lmao

Haechan to Mae: lmao what a loser

Haechan when someone insults Mae: listen here you little shit

The only person allowed to clown her is him and the rest of NCT

he heard a trainee talk shit about her once and they still can’t look haechan in the eye

he’s only a few months older than her but he uses the “i’m older!” card whenever he can

“i’m older therefore i get to go first” “excuse me sir but you’re only three months older than me” “but im still older”

they fight for the title of the favorite 127 maknae but they both know that can do what they want

Mae is more lenient towards the hyungs during yaja time than haechan is tho so she just vibes whenever they go to scold him when the games over

they do team up a lot so they’re a menace when they do something together

especially in games

their competitive nature plus their brain power together? its over it even started

50% of the time they have to be separated from each other when it comes to choosing teams

the other 50% is someone choosing both of them because they want that easy win

Merc Headcannons: Protecting You

Scout: This boy gets mad and he gets LOUD. Lots of angry posturing. Ready with a torrent of threats and some killer insults on your behalf, drawing all the attention to himself and away from you. He will immediately engage anyone who was messing with you in a fight, no matter the odds against him. Sometime this leads to him getting caught up and leaving you to fend for yourself a little, and if you’re wounded good luck getting him to stop fighting and help, but ya know. The spirit is there. 5/10

Soldier: This could go one of two ways. Either Soldirr is spitting some of the most bizarre and cutting insults this side of the Mississippi, or people are being brutally slaughtered amidst mindless ragefull screaming. It honestly depends on the severity with which you were treated. Unlike Scout, Soldier is still keeping an eye on you, and no one will get close enough to lay a finger on you. He will probably encourage you to join in and get some revenge if you want, unless you’re injured in which case he stays surprisingly reserved and swift with his brutality, keeping you close so he can get you to safety. 7/10

Pyro: So you know that panel in the comics were Smokey Bear tells Pyro fire is nobody’s friend? And we see Pyro’s >:( face? Yeah, so picture that. This is one of the few times Pyro is legitimately not having fun. You getting hurt in any capacity is no game to them, and they will go to any lengths to keep it from happening again. It’ll be quick, it’ll be efficient, it’ll be brutal, and if you didn’t before you will now know why people are scared of them. If the confrontation wasn’t that serious, you will need to be the one to hold Pyro back because no one else will dare to. 8/10

Engie: Oh he sounds so calm. He acts like the ultimate mediator, the voice of reason, the calm in the storm. He’s incredibly gentle with you, and his presence brings a sense of safety. But behind that steady voice is the promise of payback that no one dares imagine. Anyone he makes eye contact with knows that the only reason they are still standing is because he’s too much of a gentleman to do it in front of you. Most of his attention is on getting you safe, especially if you’re physically injured, but none of the people involved are getting away with a single thing and boy do they know it. And if anyone makes one move out of line, all pretense of mannors go out the window. 10/10

Demo: It is rare to see him this quiet. His silent anger is so much scarier than his loud battle cries and insults. He is dead-serious in this situation, and it’s a bit unsettling to see his bright personality so dark. Demo is extremely effected by you being messed with, like it physically hurts him to see you hurt. And if you’re physically wounded, there is no conversation: he’s ending some lives and getting you out of there as fast as possible. Demo’s very aware of how you are doing and doesn’t leave your side the whole time, making sure you feel safe. His rage is nearly tangibleand it’s clear that he will never let this happen to you again, but he still tries to be comforting. 9/10

Heavy: Someone messed with you? With Heavy around??? Seems fake but okay: Heavy doesnt ask questions. He doesn’t take excuses. He honestly doesn’t care what they have to say, if it’s not you talking he has no ears for them. Someone is paying for hurting to you and it’s going to happen right now. Some of the Mercs on this list are pretty damn scary, but nothing can strike fear into hearts like Heavy can. Still, you are number one on his list of priorities, so if you are too hurt he will put his own anger aside to get you safe first. But after that? Your offenders better run. 10/10

Medic: At first glance, one wouldn’t even think he was mad. He handles the situation so effortlessly, he might even be laughing. His first move is to make you feel 100% secure, and it works. It doesn’t matter if you’re missing all your limbs or you don’t have a single scratch, whatever the problem may be, Medic will fix it. You will be fine. But you know who’s not going to be fine? The people who messed with you. Because for all his smiles and the reassuring way he talks to you, they are about to face a wrath they have never before witnessed, and there isn’t any force in the world that can save them now. Medic will end them with a smile on his face. 10/10

Sniper: Usually, Sniper is pretty quiet, even when he’s angry. This is not one of those times. Sniper goes off, and he doesn’t hold anything back. In fact, no one can hold him back at this point. While he’s probably one of the least likely to full on fight people (because honestly he’s VERY worried about you), he has no problem doing so if it comes to it. He’d rather focus on getting you out of there, though. The situation sticks with him, and it bothers him longer than it does you. He’s hesitant to leave your side for a while afterwords. 8/10

Spy: He is probably the most aware of how you are doing and he’s acting accordingly, surprisingly sensitive to your needs. Once he’s there he will not be leaving your side. He doesn’t bother trying to hide his anger, but he also remains relatively calm for your sake. Spy doesn’t want you to have to witness what he has planned for the people who hurt you, so he is also the fastest at getting the situation delt with. But anyone involved better fear for their lives because, though they know he’s angry, Spy is far more upset about this than he lets on. 9/10

SEONG TAEHOON

The first thing he’s gonna do honestly is tell u to fight ur parents. U tell him about how u got a bad score and how it’s the end of the semester and the test/ur overall grade was important and he’s so used to living life the way HE wants he tells u to just. Fight them

And you’re first thought 2 say is idk how to fight? Bc what he said is just so sudden and kinda preposterous and ur upset and he’s like okay, I’ll teach u then and ur like I’m not fighting my parents 😭 and he goes okay then I’LL do it

And u have to rlly reiterate like” NOBODY is fighting my parents” first and foremost and after that he kind of just goes silent because he has no idea how to help you or what to do and u have knocked every idea he’s offered out of the park

Truthfully I don’t think he cares about grades too much for himself and this extends to you too. He doesn’t get why you’re so concerned, and his dad (I’m pretty sure form what we’ve seen so far) is really nice and laidback so it’s not like he’s ever being reprimanded so he’s also partfully angry at your parents bc they made u upset

Like rlly angry LMAO and as ur ranting to him ab how they yelled at u for bad grades he’s just like one day… one day he’s gna fight them 😐 he doesn’t make exceptions. He might tell u to tell them to watch out LMAO but he says it so dead seriously and u laugh but wonder if he’s even joking ?

He’s like okay well have u considered: running away

And u quickly dismiss that idea too bc u have nowhere to go and it’s literally just them scolding u ur like it’s not THAT srs... I’m just upset and he’s like u have a place to sta... nvm he’s not gonna b sweet if it’s not like absolutely necessary LOL

Bc of his lack of understanding or just overall interest in this kind of stuff, he just listens to u bc his advice clearly wasn’t cutting it for u.

He asks to see the grade and u hand him the test or the grade folder and it if ur grades weren’t even that bad, he’s gonna get frustrated w you and be like u have gotta b kidding me this is what ur stressed about 😐 what ur parents yelled at u for?? And he smacks u on the side of ur head and is like please tell me ur joking these are good. Anything above a C in his eyes is still really good

If ur grades were a D, he’s like neutral like okay yeah it was kinda bad but not the worst, don’t stress about it I’ve gotten tons of D’s.

And if it was an F he’s like oh okay yeah it was pretty bad like I get it. But this would just make things worse and ur like ur right I did so baaad and he’s like nonono oh no it’s not like that and he like stiffens and goes quiet when u get misty eyed I guess and wonders once again why this is so serious to you?? Who cares about grades?

He probably gets mad ur letting other ppl control ur life. We’ve seen that he hates other ppl living their lives for others or by others rules and he’s kinda frustrated at you and wishes he could just take over u for a day or something and tell ur parents off and ur talking about it and he’s narrowing his eyes at you but ur clearly upset so he’s not gonna yell at u rn. When u feel better ab this he probably will tell you to stop living by others standards but for now he’s kinda lost

He tries to convince u to rise up against ur parents and is like “are u gonna keep letting people in ur life control u?!” And it’s like a motivational pep talk and ur like “no!” And he’s like “are you gonna let THEM yell at you and hurt YOUR feelings?! Cause I sure as hell am not!” And ur getting more energetic and r like “me neither!” And he’s like “are you gonna let ur own PARENTS talk to YOU like that?!” And u go “no!!” Nd he’s like “we r sick of it!!” And u go “ya we r 😭” and then he thinks ur on board so he’s like good!! Let’s go beat ur parents

And ur like “what” and he realizes u weren’t on the same page the entire time so he eventually bedgrudginly will lie that idea go

And he tells you this, like he says it won’t matter in seven years, right?? So why does it matter? Pls cheer up and be doesnt outright say this but he’s like “don’t worry ur pretty little head about it” or something to cheer u up

If it works and he successfully consoles u he is rlly happy and doesn’t show it but he’ll shove his hands in his pockets and go “see?? I told you. I’m good at this advice thing.”

If it doesn’t, he’ll try to take ur mind off it and he probably just shows u his spinning back kick or something LMAO or take u to the dojo so u can either do stuff w him or just watch

But if u tell him what ur upset about isn’t grades but ur parents, he’ll listen to u tell him what they told u if it was mean or strict and if it’s rlly bad his eyes will go bloodshot and he’ll roll up his sleeves and be like okay let me at them then

Literally don’t even JOKE ab him beating up ur parents he will do it 😭😭 and worse thing is he’ll WIN. Don’t even be like “yeah I wish u would beat them up for me” bc he doesn’t draw the line between u joking and him actually doing it probably. Even if he knows ur joking, which he will bc he’s not dense he’ll use it against u and be like u have me permission and suddenly ur the instigator

He listens to u rant about them if u just want a listener and he can probably tell by ur body language… like If ur clearly wanting advice, he’ll offer u the best he can and will tell you to stick up for yourself or, if you’re really upset he’ll even consider talking to them for u. No fists to his chagrin but he’ll advocate for u and he won’t plan beforehand at all he’ll just say “I think u need 2 be nicer to ur child.” And will be like “this shit doesn’t even matter anyways” and will rip the test paper in front of them so this option is obviously not even a choice for you

If u start to cry he’ll first awkwardly do that thing that people do when they don’t know how to console someone and rub your arm and he’s like “Uhh, do u want water?” Bc he’s sad bc UR sad and doesn’t know what to do and it’s like what he’s doing isn’t that helpful but the tone in his voice is v consoling and comforting bc he’s suddenly kinda quiet 4 once

If ur sobbing he’ll hold u and u cry into his shirt and later he’ll talk about how you got it all wet but like when he goes home in the mirror and sees the tear stains it reminds him ur hurt and breaks his heart

He will study with you. And by studying it’s just him like sitting with you while you study. He doesn’t think you should study but if that’s how you want to solve this and feel better he’s down. He won’t read anything but if u have flash cards he will read them back to you and ask u questions and he doesn’t know the right answer himself (unless it’s math he’s probably rlly rlly good at math.) so u have to write them on the back. But he’s pretty good at helping u study

And if ur doing flash cards, he won’t tell u the answer until u guess it and he’s good at hinting to it and he gets annoyed VERY easily when ur not saying the answer u wrote on the back but bites it down

If ur parents make u stay home more and study as like a consequence of gettig a bad grade, he won’t have any of it

He will either confront ur parents and that either makes things somewhat better or incredibly worse

So if that’s what happens he’ll text u a lot and face time u in secret and call u a lot so even tho ur not together, every time u come home from school and open a book ur phone is hidden in the bend of it and ur fting and sometimes u don’t even talk he’s just FaceTiming u so u won’t b alone while u study and bc he misses u

Overall, he really couldn’t give a shit about grades but if need be, he’ll help u with urs, he’d be the best math tutor if ur looking, if ur parents lock u up a lot to study more bc they’re mad he will use any other option to see u, and he’ll try his best to console u despite not being that knowledgeable or understanding why you’re upset. His go to comfort option is distraction, but if it’s futile he’ll do whatever it is u wanna do. If u thank him for helping u he’ll kick something and will b like “yeah whatever I was just sick of u moping around.”

JIYEON WOO

He understands what’s going on with you all too well. When you tell him ur parents scolded u bc u didn’t do so hot in a test or ur overall grades this semester, it’s like his heart is a weight that drops into his stomach and ties his intestine into a huge knot. Like he feels the dread set in

He’s takes a muuuuchhhh more calm approach than Taehoon tbh, like while ur talking he won’t say a word and will listen. He is SUCHHH a good listener and especially now he’s just staring at you and nodding his head to let you know he’s listening to make sure u know that like he is there and present and if ur sad he’s sad too like u guys r a “team”

While ur venting, if u begin to cry he’ll let u and he’s more of a “rub-ur-back-soothingly” type of consoler so he’ll do that and if u half hug him he’ll continue do it but he’s looking at u w the saddest eyes in the world ☹️

Doesn’t rlly know what to do at first besides listen and b nice

He might even get misty eyed with u too bc he understands so much. But he won’t bring up his home situation at ALL, it’s like ur stage and he’s just a listener, he won’t make u feel like he’s comparing ur pain

His fist clenched at his side because he’s angry at your parents AND his and he’s imagining what ur parents said in his mind and even if it wasn’t that bad, he’s fuming

He might even offer to run away w u too and he “knows a place” 😭and ur like omg it’s not that bad but after reminiscing on his own home life he just assumes you’re as sick of it as him

If you’re his s/o, you obviously know about his YouTube streams, so that week at the end of every stream he’ll take a risk and unmute it and go “and don’t worry about grades too much, guys :)” and ur “guys”

Either that or he’ll do something so he will stop streaming completely for that week bc it might make u feel like he’s rubbing it in ur face how much he studies nd how studious he is and yes it gets him in trouble w his dad but when u start to feel better ab ur grades and u smile and he’s like “I thought u were upset?” And u say “oh, yeah… I’m feeling better now :)” it’s all worth it

Since he’s so consumed w streaming if u weren’t able to ever meet in person, and u had to FaceTime or text him, he probably spams u and u guys have to text at like 3am bc he’s studying all other hours of the day so he’s under his covers and reading or calling u

‘My parents got mad at me bc I got bad grades :(((‘ and then he sees the text he reads it and then again and is like oh no bc is it like his situation???

And then u go get a snack or something and go MIA during texting but he doesn’t know that so he spams u bc he thinks that maybe ur parents took ur phone and r locking u up like his did him so he’s like

‘Hello…?’

‘Where did you go? :(‘

‘Are you okay?’

‘Please be okay…’

‘(Y/n)?’

And if he suspects ur parents took ur phone and r gonna read this he sends things a very lengthy and persuasive text that explains why this is cruel and unusual and to PLS give u ur phone back and then it says seen and ur like it’s still me :)) I’m okay but thx for worrying 😭❤️

And he’s like ‘thank god…’

Since he’s a part of that newtube company (XY or something? I forgot HAHA), he has connections honestly??? So if you’re that torn over this grade he might try and pull some strings to improve your grade, make classes easier or to reach your parents even. Like he affects his parents’ boss which then butterfly effects to you

Assures you that grades aren’t that important, or tries to, but it’s so horrible coming from him because he has such good grades and it always is gonna feel like he’s just saying that no matter what

If he could he’d fail a test too to make u feel better and like ur in it together but his dad would MURDER him. So he just tries to tell u it’s okay and graders aren’t that bad

If ur mostly upset over the bad grade, he’s like it’s fine, and even if it’s a grade he genuinely considers bad he’ll look at it like “...” before going this is fine too!! :) and in his mind he’s like if I got this my dad would kill me but would NOT tell you that EVERRR. He’s gonna do anything to preserve ur feeling rn and the next few weeks he’s especially nice to u

Will study with you to make you feel better but it’s hard because he’s really far ahead tbh :(( like he explains assuming u already have some ground knowledge. BUT he’s really good at being patient so if ur like I don’t understand and get frustrated he’s like “oh I’m sorry!!! Here, I’ll go over it again.”

U guys start spending time at the library and when his dad questions him he’s like I’m studying and he really is and it’s like a study date and it actually ends up being RLLY fun

Might even print u worksheets and stuff and leaves nice notes on them when he gives them to u like every chapter has another ‘u can do it’ of ‘ur already here?! Omg! Ur far ahead keep going!’ And lots of smiley faces and hearts in the margins

He is not above helping u cheat. He will give u answers in school, risking being caught nd getting in trouble, like he’ll find a way to sit as close to u as possible in class and “drop” his pen besides u that just happens to have a paper inside with all of the answers!!!!

And when you see it you’re so happy and you look at him and wink trying it be inconspicuous and it’s so obvious and he’s like omg (y/n) pls… but he’s happy ur happy and ur grades improve so much bc he gets every answer right and so of course you are getting them right too

But u both plan on u getting a few wrong to avoid suspicion and he’s so happy when ur happy bc ur grades improve so he’ll start sending u the HW, too

Will send u just study notes if u don’t want to cheat and they r so good and he’ll also send u his flash cards and everything and lend u notes from the past

He knows ur YouTube username so if u start to study a lot more bc of ur parents’ scolding and watch his streams to “study” w him despite the million viewers it’s like it’s just u nd him and when u comment like “here bc my parents yelled @ me and now im trying to improve my grades” he is simultaneously v happy ur there but also heart broken

If it’s mainly ur parents scolding u ur upset about, he’ll listen to u talk about it for hours on end over text, FaceTime, call, etc.

Makes a joke ab sending ur parents to the nursing home he volunteers at to cheer u up 😭😭 it either makes u son harder or laugh

Overall, he cares LOTS about grades, but his not urs. And if ur worried ab getting a job he’s like dw I’ll cover u in the future :)) and he’s very understanding bc he’s in a very similar situation and hates seeing u suffer like that or go thru that even if it’s genuinely not that bad. If u cry his works just SHATTERS and he’ll listen to u rant and cry for hours on end. And if ur grades were actually considerably bad, he won’t tell u that, and he’ll help u improve them bc THATS his solution to it and he’s good at helping u study. If ur not up to it he will help u cheat despite the danger of getting caught, so he can see u happy again :(( he’s rlly so sad ur going thru the same thing as him and will do anything to make it better. Won’t offer to fight ur parents but if need be he might rough one of them up if things escalate to really like mentally abusive-like proportions. But if it wasn’t that bad, he’ll just console u and help u to feel better no matter what !!

Fanfic writer's director's commentary! Thanks to @candycoloredwolf for the ask! I chose to talk about my first panchulien oneshot 'Wanna Dance?'. I wrote it in a single night on impulse so there's a few grammar mistakes and other stuff I noticed upon revisiting it.

I probably went way overboard on my commentary (oops) but it was so much fun going through it all. I hope this is entertaining.

*the crocodile ambassador gave him an unusually soft smile.*

After everything that's happened in the show, I feel like the croc ambassador would have warmed up to Julien quite a bit and come to respect him as a leader. Also he's trying to butter Julien up before complaining about one of his subjects.

*provided they were on their best behaviour. It had said on the invitation that it was a 'sophisticated' event, so Maurice had managed to wrangle all of the lemurs into formal wear, and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves, dancing in pairs to the soft music*

Man, I just love it when characters dress up in fancy outfits and go dancing together (like in the prom episode). One of my favourite tropes in fact, so I just had to throw it in there!

*but still all this fancy partnered dancing wasn't entirely to the ringtail's taste.*

As much as I like the formal dancing stuff, it wouldn't be something Julien would enjoy, so he's already looking for an excuse to bounce and throw his own afterparty. He's only stayed so far to try and be polite and improve relations between their kingdoms or something else that Maurice told him to do.

*Clover, Sage and the rest of the mountain lemur kingdom was there, and the king and queen were happily sharing a waltz. Maurice was dancing with his sister while Prince Brodney was teaching their children the steps*

This takes place after the show's finale, but without the inclusion of the zoosters, so sort of like a parallel universe? Where Julien and Clover are monarchs together, which I think is neat. Also People tend to forget that Maurice has a sister, myself included really, and I kinda wish they'd had more cute bonding moments, so I gave then a brother/sister dance.

*even Pancho was leaning against a tree*

Aside from the main squad (excluding Mort of course) Pancho is the only minor lemur that Julien really mentions here. Almost like he was looking for him specifically. Hmmm....

*He caught Julien's eye and winked. Julien chuckled fondly.*

Casual flirt.

*"I do have a minor issue with the behaviour of one of your, ahem, subjects*

That little cough just feels like something the croc ambassador would do when he's embarrassed, or to sound authoritative, so he did.

*Julien tore his eyes away from Pancho*

"Tore his eyes away" almost like he didnt want to look away. Hmmm...

*The anxious lemur was currently giggling as he twirled his new boyfriend around*

Ah, I just want Willie to be happy and have a good time with his bf. He deserves to laugh more. New boyfriend infers that they're in the early stages of their relationship, so they're just messing around being silly and cute and having fun together.

*but Horst and Mary Ann weren't doing much better.*

Horst and Mary Ann deserve a nice romantic dance. It would be pretty awkward because she's twice his size and can only really walk on all fours, but they don't even care. They just cut their own path through the dance floor and ignore everyone else, no matter how annoyed the other dancers are because they keep getting in the way.

*"Well, they're both males!" He said. "It's completely unnatural, wouldn't you agree?"*

Oof, the croc ambassador wants that snooty monarch solidarity with Julien since he's the most popular king in Madagascar, but that ain't happening any time soon. Not with that attitude!

*Julien was lost for words. He had known ever since he was young that he liked boys. Every male in the kingdom liked boys! In fact, it was considered a little unusual if you WEREN'T interested in the same gender.*

I like the idea that homosexuality is just the norm in the party kingdom, kinda like She-Ra. People are just gay and nobody thinks anything of it and coming out is celebrated. Julien doesn't care if you're gay or straight though, he just cares for his peeps and wants them to love who they love.

*whatever their genders were*

A subtle difference between Julien and the croc ambassador, Julien says 'genders' while croc ambassador says 'sexes' because Julien is more open to the idea of gender not being confined to biology.

*Julien took a few deep breaths and tried desperately to not get angry.

"What's the problem man, they're just dancing." He remarked in what he hoped was a neutral tone.*

Julien tries to keep his cool here, a bit of his character development showing. He now knows that everything doesnt have to be a scene, so keeps his temper. It's also kind of to protect Willie and his partner though. He knows they're having a good time and he doesn't want to bring to their attention that their host doesn't like what they're doing, because he knows they'll be upset.

*"rather not have it ruined by such atrocities being committed!"*

And this was the point where I started to hate the croc ambassador too while writing.

*"Oh, hey Julio." Pancho smiled at him. "I was just gonna-"*

Pancho was just gonna say that he was bored with the party and wanted to leave. He would have asked if Julien wanted to come with (he could tell Julio was getting bored and he couldn't have THAT), which would have been a different fanfiction entirely.

*"Wanna dance?" Julien said.*

I honestly can't remember if I thought of the title or this line first.

*He considered sticking his tongue out at the reptile's back, but ultimately decided that such a juvenile display wasn't the best way to get his point across.*

Again, character development. Julien has matured (a little) and realised that there are better, more fulfilling ways of getting revenge.

*"OK." Pancho said with a shrug, and slid his paw over to Julien's waist,*

Once Pancho can mentally catch up with what's going on, he rolls with it. In fact, he sorta likes the idea of dancing with Julien, and had been trying to gather the courage to ask him for most of the night. I wonder why...

*As they danced though, he began to feel his attention drawn to a different place: how smooth Pancho was on the dance floor,*

We all know Julien's attention span is not great, so there's no way he's going to be able to stay angry when he's too busy being distracted by Pancho's smoothness.

*He raised an eyebrow. "You just couldn't resist?"*

Not entirely subtle flirt.

*"But you know, you're not a bad pick." He patted Pancho on the arm.*

Not entirely subtle either flirt.

*"Abner over there's been missing steps and stumbling all night!" He glanced over at Abner and his wife with a small frown.*

Poor Abner, he's the one getting picked on tonight. Bit of a running gag here.

*Pancho's eyes widened and he instinctively pulled Julien closer, whether it was to shield him or to further prove the point, Julien couldn't tell, but the ringtail wasn't complaining.*

Pancho does pull Julien closer on instinct to protect him, he knows how badly homophobia would hurt Julien's feelings. Julien is just loving it though. He was more angry for Willie's sake than hurt anyways.

*"But us lemurs dance with guys all the time!" Pancho exclaimed. "I've seen you kiss four different guys at a party once! What's his problem?"

"That's what I'm saying, wait I did what?"*

Even if they weren't a couple, dancing together is just something the males would do. They're that casual. And of course Julien would go around kissing everybody at his parties when he gets drunk enough. Poor Julien doesnt remember half of what he does at parties though.

*"Oh no, I don't mind." Pancho remarked, then cleared his throat awkwardly, looking away.*

Awkward silence much? Internally Pancho is just screaming *why did you say that?!" because he doesn't know how to handle his feelings right now, especially not with Julien so close.

(For any other ballroom dance enthusiasts, what they're dancing would be a mix between a waltz and a slow dance. Like a casual, less fancy waltz that's quite easy for them to get the hang of, but still quite romantic and personal).

*"You know Julio, I don't think he's gonna notice." Pancho remarked.*

But eventually Pancho plucks up the courage. They're already dancing, he tells himself. And Julien just wants to make the crocodile ambassador mad. Julien kisses people platonically all the time so he won't question it. If he doesnt like it, say you were doing it to piss off the crocodiles. And if he does like it... well...

*"Well, I had an idea." Pancho was avoiding his gaze again."*

He's still nervous of course, but he's made up his mind. It's all or nothing, baby!

*"Lay it on me." Julien said.*

And he does! Literally!

*And holy Sky Gods.*

I was tempted to have this line be 'holy crap' or 'holy sh*t' because that's what I would say idk but holy sky gods just works better for the show's lore, and allows the story to keep a G rating.

*All thoughts of spiting the crocodile ambassador had been fully driven from his mind*

Julien just gets so caught up in the moment, he's all "what crocodile ambassador?" he just wants to keep kissing.

*Julien stroked his paw through Pancho's soft fur and deepened their kiss.*

I imagine Pancho's fur would be very soft, he's always playing around with explosives so he's bound to get his fur burnt off every now and then, and it grows back softer.

This was the first time I wrote the lemurs kissing, so it's not the most explicit thing in the world. I probably couldn't write an explicit kiss scene to save my life though.

*"Hoo-ah." Pancho sighed softly.*

Hoo-ah" is exactly what Pancho would say after having his mind blown by a kiss like that. Just no thoughts, head Julien.

*"Yeah, crocodile ambassador certainly thinks so." Pancho said, a wild grin overcoming his face*

Heh heh, Pancho's happy because he just got to kiss his crush (and he liked it!) But also because he can see the croc ambassador is pissed and he loves the opportunity to mess.

*some looking angry, some looking intrigued*

Some of the crocs are intrigued because they've never been able to be open about who they are or experiment because of compulsory heterosexuality in their kingdom. Seeing two guys just being so open about their attraction to each other would definitely help them rethink things. They've never seen gay love expressed like this and it's new and exciting.

*Julien's face broke out into an ecstatic grin.

"Yeah that's right!" He called wildly. "I kissed a guy! At your party! Boom, I like kissing guys! Ha, suck on that loser! Woohoo!"*

Oh the sweet triumph of proving a point. This rant was a joy to write, it just feels very Julien.

*He grabbed Pancho's hand and held it up.*

Grab your boyfriend's hand, hold it aloft like a prize.

*"I'm like ninety percent sure Ted likes kissing guys!"*

Haha, poor Teddy needs to be extracted from the closet, pronto. Julien just has an excellent gaydar.

* and tucked a protective arm around his daughter's shoulders, turning her away from Julien.*

I imagine princess Amy would have some questions after this, questions which her father would definitley struggle to answer. If she really wants to find out what Pancho and Julien were doing, I imagine she'd visit the party kingdom alone, and the lemurs would be happy to answer her questions. Pancho and Julien may have ushered in a new era for the crocodile kingdom and their relationship with LGBT+.

*There came a cheer from the crowd of lemurs and they all began to head off the dance floor*

Of course the other lemurs go with Julien immediately, he's their king after all and the moment he suggests that someone might not be cool with their sexualities, they're ready to bounce.

*Clover and Sage at the front hand in hand,*

Clover and Sage would definitley be behind Julien 100%. The moment he declares that they're out of there, they just drop everything to leave with him.

*some mountain lemur ladies holding hands too.*

Mountain lemur lesbians? Anyone? I just think it's neat.

*"You read my mind, Julio."

Julien pulled Pancho towards him and tried to ignore how it felt like there was a little party going on in his stomach when Pancho called him that.*

Julien really likes that name! I see it as an affectionate nickname Pancho gave him that eventually just evolves into a pet name that makes Julien a little warm and fuzzy inside every time he hears it.

*Julien's heart leapt with joy to see Willie clutching his boyfriend's hands as they danced.*

Daaaww, Julien might pick on Willie but at the end of the day he likes to see him happy. He's glad they don't have to stay at a party where their dancing is scrutinised.

*Pancho rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly as they stood face to face. "I'm sorry about kissing you, I just-"*

Now that there's some distance between them, Pancho has had time to think and wonder "oh sheesh, what if I messed it up, what if he only felt like it was platonic" and he's now all embarrassed, poor leem. He's just a guy in love.

*He nodded, then cleared his throat in an attempt to get a grip on his emotions. "You know, um, while we were dancing*

And now we see Julien trying to hold it together, these two are just so precious and I can totally see them stumbling over their feelings like that.

*kissed Pancho on the forehead, giggling slightly at the other lemur's squeak of surprise.*

Pancho is the perfect height for affectionate forehead kisses, let's not forget it!

*Pancho and Julien headed onto the dancefloor together and moved their bodies to the beat.*

They would have spent the night together just dancing and vibing (and making out probably).

*Nobody there who gave them the stink-eye or who told them that they were wrong. They danced and had fun and kissed without a care in the world. Julien felt so happy that his kingdom was a place where he could kiss Pancho all he liked.*

Ah I really went to town on the "love is love" concept here, didn't I? Well, a theme is a theme.

Julien's just really happy at the place he's created. He's glad they can dance and kiss and all that jazz, and he did that, he created a kingdom free of prejudice. It's exactly how I can see the kingdom's relationship with LGBT+ going down, a place where they're all just happy to vibe and be themselves.

Pay Your Way (Dutch X f!Reader)

Writing this… might have sparked… a crush on Dutch??

Warnings: Slight dub-con (in the form of pursuasion) and smut

You follow Dutch to a secluded area outside camp, your nerves building within your chest atthe way he’d sounded when he’d spoken to you.

“I need a word with you,” he’d told you.

Dutch comes to a stop in a heavily wooded area; the treesforming a canopy overhead that blocksmost of the mid-day sunlight out. “What’s this about, Dutch?” you ask, tryingto act considerably less uncomfortable than you are. Dutch scratches his mustache with one hand, standing with the otherone on his hip. He looks stressed – more than usual – and he has black bagsunder his eyes from the lack of sleep. You watch him pace for a few seconds –the nervousness that bubbles away in your chest getting stronger and strongerwith each second that he refuses to answer your question. “Dutch, I asked –“

“I know what you asked, woman,” he snaps. “What this isabout is the fact that you need to start pulling your weight.”

“Excuse me?”

“Some of the boys –“

“You mean Micah.“

“ – think that you’re not doing enough for the group and Ihave to admit that they’re right.”

“I do plenty!” you argue, your cheeks burning from the angersparked by his insinuation.

“Like what?” he asks, throwing his hands out beside him.

You take a moment to think and your shoulders sink a littleas you struggle to name a single thing that you contribute. He has you; noquestion there. Truth is, you’ve only been with the group for less than 4months and why should you have to clean the boys’ dirty, bloodsoaked clothesall day just because they chose tobring you along with them?

“Sweetheart,” Dutch sighs. “I like havin’ you around and I’mglad we took you in when we did; I really am. But if you don’t have anything tooffer, then I’ll have to start thinkin’about cuttin’ you loose.”

“No… no.” Youshake your head and step towards him, closing the gap between the two of youand placing your hand over your heart. “You can’t do that to me, Dutch. When Ijoined you boys, I got a price put on myhead for it. If you leave me out there, I’ll get caught. I’ll swing, Dutch.I’ll –“

“Okay, okay, calm down,” he tells you, placing his hands onyour shoulders and trying to coax you out of the cloud of panic that swells inyour mind and chest as you think about the gravity of your situation. “I’m surewe can think of something,” he adds.

“I ain’t a good worker, Dutch. I don’t… I can’t do thethings that the other girls do. It’s just not in my nature.”

“Oh, I’m wellaccustomed to your nature afterseein’ you work your magic with those fellers in Valentine.” He chuckles for amoment before his face slowly begins to drop. You may have only known Dutch fora few months, but you’ve seen enough ideas flit through that mind of his toknow what he looks like when he’s thinking one through. “Say… maybe thatnature could be the very solution to our problem.”

You look at him in confusion as he rubs your shouldersgently with his thumbs. “What’re you thinkin’, Dutch?”

He tucks a lock of hair behind your ear and leans in close.“I’m thinkin’ that maybe you’re better off payin’ your way in much more excitingways than cooking or cleaning,” he informs you, speaking softly in a hushedvoice. “It’s definitely sordid and distasteful, but I’m sure a woman of your…nature… wouldn’t mind getting a little dirty.”

He returns his hand to your shoulder – using it to slowlypush you down onto your knees – and your cheeks are now burning with a littlemore than just anger. Shame, embarrassment, uneasiness; you name it, you’refeeling it. But you know you don’t belong doing runt work or wearing a ropenecklace, so you don’t see yourself having much choice in the matter.

“I don’t… I mean, we shouldn’t –“

“Darlin’, you are living with a group of dangerous andhighly wanted outlaws. It’s a little late to be contemplating what you shouldand shouldn’t be doing, don’t you think?”

Your knees settle into the dirt; sinking down into the mudof the forest floor as Dutch unbuttonshis pants. “But… Miss O’Shea…” you whisper.

“What Miss O’Shea doesn’t know can’t hurt her,” he purrs,pushing your hair back and holding onto a handful of it. “Now why don’t you openyour mouth and show me why you belong with us.”

You do as he tells you, opening your mouth as he pulls himself out of his pants and places the tip onto yourflattened tongue. You close your lipsaround him and start sucking gently, earning a moan from Dutch as he throws hishead back and begins chuckling.

“Well,” he speaks through a sharp exhale of breath. “If I’dhave known your mouth was this delightfully warm, I’d have put you to work assoon as I brought you home.”

He lets go of the fistful of hair and begins combing his fingers through it as he watches youbob your head back and forth slowly. Precum leaks onto your tongue as he twitchesbetween your baby-soft lips and you pull himout for a moment to take a look around. Raising your hand and gripping himfirmly, you spit onto his tip and spread the lubricant around with your hand asyou glance around at the trees. There’s nobody there, but you can’t shake thethought of someone catching you and the feeling of how awful it would be if word got back to camp. Youdefinitely prefer “this line of work” over cleaning or cooking, and you unequivocallyfavour it over being thrown out into the wilderness with nothing but the clotheson your back. But that doesn’t mean you’re proudof what you’re doing here in this forest and it doesn’t mean you’d be happy tolive out the rest of your days with the gang, being subjected to all sorts of beratement, funny looks, and wisecracks.

“You feelin’ skittish, my dear?” Dutch asks, pulling your lingering gaze away from the bushes that stir in the breeze. “I can assure you thateveryone in that camp has seen – and done– a lot worse than this. So if they happened to find us in this mildlycompromising position, I promise they wouldn’t do much more than bat an eyelid.”

You take his word for it and continue your work; slidingyour hand back and forth along his shaft and rubbing the underside of his tipwith your thumb and you gently run your tongue alongthe slit. He throws his head back once more and grunts primordially – the mostanimalistic and untamed that you’ve ever seen this well-educated and smartly dressed man behave – and you give a smallmoan that sends him over the edge.

His hips jolt and he pulls back, grabbing hold of your hairinstinctively and ordering you to stick your tongue out as far as you can.You follow his orders – ever the obedient young woman – and he holds you inplace as he spills onto your tongue, holding himself at the base with his otherhand. You wait for him release the vice grip he has of your hair and heeventually does; stepping back and leaving you free to climb to your feet and dust the dirt off your knees.

“Well,” Dutch pants, leaning back against the tree to catchhis breath. “I’d say you’ve won me over, Miss. I guess there’d be no sense inseein’ you wander out into the wilderness just yet.”

“So I can stay?” you ask him,wiping your mouth on the back of your hand.

“For now,” he jokes. “Yes, of course you can stay. I ain’tgonna bring you out this far into the East just to let you get hung by some trigger-happy,over-confident lawmen.”

You breathe a sigh of relief that morphs into a chuckle as thebreath that you’ve been holding for 30 seconds empties from your lungs. “Well,I’m glad I could persuade you, Mr Van Der Linde. I like runnin’ with you boys. I’m even startin’ to warm up to Bill.”

“Well that is quite a feat,” he laughs, gesturing for you towalk with him. “You have more patience that the lot of us put together. Thatdog has been with us for five years and I still have yet to warm up to him.”

The two of you make your way back to camp, stepping overfallen branches and plodding through ditches. Dutch comes to a stop just shortof the camp, putting his arm out in front of you to stop you in your tracks. “Itmay be best if we skulk back into camp seperately and as quiet as possible… Avoid raising toomany questions,” he suggests.

“I thought you said the others wouldn’t care,” you question.

“Sweetheart, I was heavily invested in keeping you in thatforest for as long as it took for me to… well, you know.” He looks at youwith a smirk. “In all honestly, I would have told you I was the king of France if it meant the taskat hand was finished.”

“And coming from your mouth I would have believed it, nodoubt,” you smile, shaking your head.

“They always do,” he smiles, stepping forward and enteringthe camp covertly as you lag behind, waiting for your opportunity to rejoin thegroup of women who sit in their tents, washing clothes and chattering quietly among themselves.

so the thing about the pointy ears that actually interests me the most is that elliot didnt seem to notice all that much or care. and like i know there was a bloody skeleton wolf scaring the crap outta him, but i feel like hed have at least been a little like "hey i am an elf boy now"

Here for the moment, the little one is being very fussy this evening. I think my favourite scene was in the night terror in chapter 2, where we just had the glowing eyes - and then Mandy's glowing hand. Creepy and atmospheric.

Scrolling back to read, I liked how Elliot was thankful not to be a hobbit when he woke.

QUESTION 2. Dreams seem to be central to the story at hand. How do you interpret Elliot’s latest dream? Was it a dream, or was it something more? Whose birth did Elliot supposedly witness, and what exactly is it hungering for? Who is the black wolf that delivers the warnings to Elliot, and why is Elliot the one tasked with helping to defeat whatever the wolf is warning him about? Additionally, if this is no simple dream, why doesn’t Elliot remember this supposed event? Last but not least, what do you make of Elliot’s appearance change within the dream, and what do you think the meaning of the lantern is?

I don't think it's a nightmare on elm street kind of thing, because Crystal Lake was dropped as a reference, so these sorts of things already exist in the characters' universe.

Chapter 4, Elliot joins an elf help group.

you looked at my tags and went “screw choosing, imma make u answer the saddest question about each of your beloved dnd characters” and, honestly? i respect you for it. lets do this.

50. If your character was presented with imminent and unavoidable death/fatality, how would they react? Would they try to avoid death anyways? Would they try to make their last days count?

Scalia, my necromancer/warlock tiefling: she has... kind of faced this situation before? In that she once sold her soul to a demon and assumed it would be devoured when she died (he actually already took it from her, she ended up getting it back, long story). As she was unknowingly soulless at the time, she ‘coped’ with drugs and drinking and partying. Hard. All the time. So I think that would be her answer if faced with inevitable death while soulless. With her soul, I think her first thought would be to hide any and all evidence of it from the people around her, while also making preparations for after she’s gone. Writing letters for them to find, deciding who gets what, and who’s gonna look after Coaguilini (her lil blood goblin familiar, he’s adorable). And then she’d drink, make a last-ditch effort to make a deal with some kind of higher power, before slipping away in the night to go to her sister’s grave. Yeah, she’s the most depressing of my characters.

Cephas the golem witch: they are a kind of special situation, as they’re a living spirit tied to a stone body. They don’t remember their first life, only the one they’ve lived while a golem. So for them, death isn’t really a scary thing or something to be dreaded. They’re already on borrowed time, and they’ve had a whole ton of it, and made some great friends and even found a family. So they would make their last days count by going home to their best friend, and praying to their god. Of course if their god, Ska’al, gave them an idea of how to stick around, or their best friend had an idea, they would pursue it. But with no alternatives, they would accept that death is coming and make sure to tell everyone around them how much they love them. Plus, after all this time, they’re kind of excited to see what the afterlife (or lack thereof) is like. During their first years as a golem they were brainwashed to obey a man who made them kill a lot of people, so they’ve always wondered if those souls ended up somewhere peaceful afterward.

Jorie Jackson-Eventide, aka JJ, a half-orc druid: she would definitely be one to try and find a way around it. She’s only 19, verging on 20, and her parents went through a lot to have her, including the fact that their first daughter died when she was only a couple months old. When JJ told them she wanted to travel and adventure they were very against it, but she managed to convince them. So if there was imminent death, there’s no way she would just accept it, especially for her parent’s sake. She also believes that life is precious and worth defending, and that includes her own. So she would drag her party members all over trying to find a way out. If the moment came, however, and there was no way... She would tell Eali and Lasaer (the other party members as of right now, who she considers to be family) how much she loves them, and she would ask them to take her body (if there is one) back home to her parents. Actually, JJ would have a few people she’d want them to talk to, and tell about her death. And I firmly believe that she would be scared to die, she wouldn’t want to, but she’d do her best to smile while it happened anyway.

Cledwyn, goblin paladin: my darling Wyn is already a cranky little ball of adorable. The idea of a death that she couldn’t avoid no matter what would just make her angry, especially with the lessons she’s learned recently. In fact, there was a whole vision from her god, Savros, that told her not to confine herself to just one path. There are always options, always places to go. He looks over the big picture and can see the future, but it is something that she is also making in the moment depending on her situations. The idea that this death is unavoidable would make her angry, and she would refuse to believe it. No matter how dire the stakes, there’s always a chance. So she wouldn’t say goodbye to anyone, wouldn’t prepare for the end. She would face it stubbornly and say “no. not today, not ever”.

Nobody, a tortle fighter/barbarian/paladin-to-be: my DM just had a god offer him a job as an in-universe reason for me to add a level of paladin, but i havent gotten to the actual leveling up part yet, so for now he’s a servant of Bahamut in name only. And he is the dumbest of all my characters. That’s not a bad thing, and he’s well aware that he isn’t smart and doesnt understand a lot of things, but he’s also the sweetest and kindest member of the party. Due to a curse when he was young, he accidentally wandered away from his family and never found them again, so he lived alone in a swamp for nearly 200 years before deciding to go out into the world and make some new memories before his time was up. Recently he’s been given the location of his family, and the whole party has been on a journey to the place where they live. so i think if, right now, he had to face death, he would spend his last days pushing as hard as he could to get home first. and if that was impossible, he’d tell the party to go there in his stead and tell his family what happened to him. i dont think he’d have any ideas for how to put it off or avoid it, though the other party members would probably come up with some things. if they didnt get in the way of getting to his family, he’d be game to try anything with what time he had left. if this happened after he finally had closure with his family, i honestly think he’d accept it calmly. he’s already very old, and part of the reason he left his isolation was because his natural life span was coming to a close anyway. knowing exactly when and how its going to happen wouldnt change much for him, other than giving him a chance to spend quality time with all the people that are important to him to say goodbye. and then he’d walk to death and give it a hug, and introduce himself as a new friend.

Cinaed, dwarven cleric/ranger: oh my darling... the only evil-aligned character i play. for him, it would depend heavily on why he was dying. if it was in service of his goddess in any way, he would be honored. he would think of it as the only right thing to do and would be ecstatic that he was chosen for something so important. and he would expect the others around him to see it the same way as well, and to celebrate with him. if it weren’t in service to his goddess, however, he would definitely try to find a way out of it through any means possible. any means. including turning to all kinds of dark magic, lichdom, or anything similar. he cannot die with his mission unfulfilled, not unless the goddess herself wishes it. serving her is much more important than his own life force or soul. his last days would be spent praying and fighting.

ah!! they’re actuallybnha ocs! there’s a lot of speculating in their backstories tho, mainly becauseof the mystery surrounding all for one so ill put it under the cut thisllprobably get long aaaaaaaa

SO there isn’t a lot ofinfo on all for one, but we do know that he enjoys the power of having multiplequirks and also wants a successor. i think that prior to meeting tomura heattempted to try and create a successor with the strength to surpass him oneday. so lots of experimentation. first it started with the basics: just tryingto transfer quirks onto other people. after the discovery that not everybodycould handle begin given a quirk like that, all for one decides to try keepingthe quirk in his genes, and so he has a kid (listen he doesnt have a face pretendthe lucky lady rly likes money or power or whatever).

well that child turns outquirkless, so they try once more and have another baby (this baby is my oc shill explain later) and realizing relying on chance doesn’t work, they decidedto try and use dna experiment on this child. but guess who fuckin hates thatidea? all for one’s brother, aka the first user of one for all.

but they do it anywaybecause all for one needs an heir so. they start doing the experiment(TM) andthe baby dies from the strain of the experimentation, prompting no emotionalresponse from all for one.

or so they thought.

one for all was a good person and wanted to give his niece aproper burial, but found that she was actually alive. the experiment was asuccess, and the quirks all for one had given to his daughter had kept heralive. knowing that all for one would use his daughter’s powers for evil, he fledand took the child with him. before leaving, however, his final act was tellingall for one’s first child, his niece, all of the evil acts her father had done,hoping this would strike a fire inside her to begin some sort of conspiracyfrom the inside, so he would have some support fighting his brother.

knowing that he would be unable to defeat his brother, one forall transferred his mutated quirk onto another, the baby he took was raised bythis second user until their death. by that time she’d been taken in by a localsmall-time gang, ne’er-do-wells who did what they had to in order to survive onthe streets. the gang was her family, and they were all just stupid teens, butthey did their best to help each other and care for one another where nobodyelse would. (think team skull lol)

enter my oc turning 14, raised quirkless and not knowing herpower. seeing the pro heroes of the time barely giving a damn about people likethem, she turned to vigilantism, donning a mask and saving those who wereharassed but not saved. she looked into ways to counter certain quirks, and usedher incredible intelligence for a 14-year-old (another passive quirk bestowedupon her by all for one) to make gadgets to help her keep up with other heroes.

she was content with this lifestyle: save people who needed tobe saved, who wouldn’t be saved any other time, no credit necessary.

enter toshinori yagi.

[warning lmfao it might get kinda sue-ish here but there’sanother oc so blease stick around]

so she encounters toshinori yagi on a whim, after stealing somefood for the younger members of her gang and stopping a mugging on the waythere.

because of his own quirklessness, toshinori saw something in herthat was heroic potential, and so he befriends her and attempts to convince herto try and get into ua, which she scoffs at obviously. but after the gang (i don’thave a name for them yet lol) hear of the incident, they try and succeed inconvincing her to give it a try. so this quirkless girl tries getting into uawith her homemade technology, supported by both toshinori and his mentor nanashimura. she gets in through shounen anime means (the working idea is that she fights gran torino and wins through the power of friendship but idk lmfao) and starts her new life as a quirkless student at a school for pro heroes.

of course none of the student body really likes her presence there, except toshinori. constantly showing his support and confidence in her, he’s a beacon of hope, cheering her on and helping her get better while also using her tech to improve his own techniques. some are humbled by being beaten by a quirkless kid with the smarts to stop their quirks and others are embarrassed, but still the harassment never really stops.

so the night before finals of her first year, the emotional strain of being bullied and attacked for being a quirkless student mixes with her pre-existing depression and anxiety over her lack of self-worth being an orphan and a quirkless person in general, so she tries to kill herself by jumping off the roof of ua.

enter toshinori yagi again.

he sits with her for the rest of the night, the night before finals, talking to her and getting her to let her feelings out. he talks her down and saves her life, making him her hero.

as they go through school, the bullying becomes less and less prevalent, less annoying, and more and more people grow to respect her for her fighting prowess and her humbling abilities that have improved greatly with the help of her studies.

she falls in love with toshinori. they fight side by side together.

she realizes she loves helping people, but she also wants to keep pro heroes humble. they have millions of idols around the world, and some of them are quirkless. so she becomes a physical education teacher at ua. and teaches up and coming heroes that people can and will be able to counter them.

so of course she’s there when all for one destroys his body. she still loves him and helps him through everything, from adjusting to his new body to helping with his loss of confidence and feelings of inadequacy for being unable to be a hero for more than a few hours a day.

she’s basically bnha’s batman. that’s the first bnha oc i have lol.

the next one is a student. she’s in class 1-a (in an au where either 1. izuku is the special 23rd classmate because his entry was later than the others somehow shut up or 2. mineta is fucking nonexistant). ive talked of her before but not in much detail i don’t think.

so after the first oc is “dead” to all for one, he tries taking children who have multiple quirks/children that he thinks can handle his transferring to make his successor. one of these children was tomura shigaraki’s sister, a young girl who was just a baby when tomura accidentally killed their parents. born with a hydrokinetic quirk, she was given a quirk that allowed her to calm/anger others with her singing, but somebody (i dont know who yet) stopped the experiments before she turned into a nomu.

as she grew, she was trained in the art of villainy. namely watching others get tortured or murdered, and ways to stop pro heroes. she was initially excited to learn these things, because it meant she would make her big brother happy.

she tripped one day and cut her hand. she realized she was the exact same as those she was supposed to torture and kill. she bled the same color as them, she had blood in their veins same as them, and all in all she was just as human as those people. suddenly she really doesn’t like learning how to be a villain.

it wasn’t until the incident that she realized how wrong everything was, and how she needed to take action.

after all for one realizes tomura is the perfect candidate, he decides he doesn’t need the other experiments-tomura’s own sister included-and has them fight each other to the death until there is one survivor, who gets to live. she’s only around 7-10 when this happens. hiding and running from the other experiments keeps her alive, alongside one other person, who she knows she has to kill to get out.

she’s scared, and she really doesn’t want to, but he’s coming this way and if she doesn’t do something she’ll die, so she uses her hydrokinesis quirk to manipulate his body (made of 60% water) and kills him. she has no other choice, but the action scars her. she leaves covered in blood that isn’t hers and tears that are still flowing from her eyes. when tomura isn’t there to see her, she begins questioning how much he really cares for her.

who else is there but all for one’s first child.

she cleans her up and the next morning explains the conspiracy that’s been brewing since she was a child, after one for all told her everything. my oc decides to join the conspiracy. her role is to gain the trust of the league and ensure that she can get a clear shot at their leader’s back one day. so when she turns 14 and the league tasks her with entering ua and infiltrating the school while providing them information, she is told both by the league of villains and the leader of the conspiracy that she cannot get attached, and must follow the league’s orders to the letter.

however, that isn’t the easiest feat. class 1-a treats her with kindness and love like she’s never seen before, and it makes it so hard to have to watch them die. so she begs all for one’s daughter (i dont have a name for her okay) to spare them, at least try. she’s given an ultimatum: the children will be tested. if they cannot beat the villains at usj, they aren’t fit to fight all for one. it’s not much but it’s something, so she follows through with the promise after the usj invasion. when the class not only survives the fight but helps all might in the process, she retreats and spares the class.

this oc knows her alignment is still wrong, but she must keep up the act of being a double agent in order to keep this rebellion decades in the works going. she doesn’t even really hope for class 1-a’s forgiveness so long as they are alive. their friendship in this moment is more than enough contentment for her. if they hate her, so be it, so long as they are safe.

ANY WAY. that’s it!! i really want to give them names but i have no ideas so ya!! honestly the second oc will probably be named something water related but im trying to keep the naming conventions of bnha so!! uh ya!!

the more i think about it the more the characters seem a lot like the paladins lol....cept ASH their just a bitchy Coran

this got SUPER long so its under the cut, but i really enjoyed writing this lol

(keith really got the short stick in this tho cause i havent thought of anything plus i dont think hed really talk to them he doesnt seem like a people person)

Shiro:

He’d like Cirus for the most part, both leaders and level headed and protective of their kids team, but they’d probably fight for who was leader lmao.

If you’re a leader, ASH (especially after she was recently created) is a fuckin nightmare. They would never listen to him. How Shiro was with Slav is basically how they’d interact in the beginning.

that being said, once ASH develops as a person (robot?) shiro would probably start treating them less like something he gives orders to and they execute, but more as an actual person (they kinda are, they do develop their own thought and ideas)

Mala’s kinda skittish and reserved around new people but they’d bond over similarities, both don’t remember a lot of their captivity, got a cool white tuff, missing limbs replaced with weapons. they'd get along.

I honestly don’t know how he’d feel about Val? like he’d appreciate her smarts but she’s already cirus as a father figure but when he dies (spoilers for a story ill never publish lol), shed probably get really attached to shiro bc hes very similar to cirus

Again with Aice idk how he’d interact with them....like shiro would probably train with them and would make sure they didnt get seriously hurt but theyve just got nothing in common or anything to talk about.

Pidge:

With Cirus, i feel like he’d remind her of her dad and so she’d be kind of distant from him at first and wouldn’t really interact with him. they would eventually talk cause cirus acknowledges that shes a huge part of why missions work and he needs to be closer with her.

Pidge would LOVE ASH so much. pidge would constantly work with val to upgrade and fix them and pidge would constantly interview them to see how they can have individual though when theyre a robot! shes so fascinated by ASH and surprisingly, ASH is really nice and protective of Pidge.

ASH is programmed to care for those who are hurt, and because ASH can read people like a book, ASH quickly learns about her missing father. ASH and Pidge are the new platonic power couple of the group.

She’d probably be just acquaintances with Mala. Kinda like Shiro and Aice, Pidge wouldn’t want Mala to get hurt and vise versa but they just dont really know each other (and are okay with leaving it at that.)

She’d admire Val. After all Val literally built her new bff so...jk pidge really does look up to val and they talk about techy and science shit a lot that only hunk and coran can follow.

Her and Aice would connect over small stuff like being so far from your family, and their love for creating stuff. Aice would teach pidge how to sew for sure (Pidge would want to know how to make fabric based casings for different robots and aice knows how to sew soo)

Keith:

Honestly with all of them I don’t thin keith would be super close with any of them.

Like he’d talk with them about interests that aline, Aice with training, Cirus with leading, Val and ASH with technology. But beyond that theres no real connections.

(this might just be because im not a huge keith fan so i dont bother to give him connections lmao)

Lance:

He’d look up to Aice and Cirus, they’re both super strong and amazing with guns. The three of them would bond over cool downs after training, getting food and chatting. He knows a surprising amount of information about them because of said food and chat sessions.

He asks Cirus to teach him to sniper and how to spot angles etc. With Aice they just train a lot bc theyre both long range.

He tried jokingly flirting with Mala once but noticed she left and was super uncomfortable so he went to go apologize and they talked and he learned a lot about her too.

what im trying to say is lance has a skill for reading people and can relate to literally everyone

he went to go look at the stars one night and found val overworking herself so he invited her to go look at the stars together and they bonded over that fact that they both miss their family and home.

Val promised to take lance to Ashara sometime because its a lot like Earth, its 85% fresh water, 7% salt water, 5% rainforest, and 3% beach.

lance cried, so did val

He thinks ASH is super cool but they fight a lot. someone who gives out every idea they have mixed with someone who only narrows down what the consider the ‘best logical plan’ would not get along most the time.

Hunk:

Same with pidge, he fucking loves ASH. he sometimes joins pidge during her interview sessions with ASH but just asks random questions rather than pidges statistical ones.

“whats the one stop tool to fix a broke cooling system?” “a contermator” “dont know what that is so im gonna say youre wrong, its a wrench!”

loves cooking with Aice and again, they train together a lot because, again, both long range and they teach each other their different skills. aice teach hunk how to clean a super computer cooling system (aka ASH’s room), and hunk teaches them how to fix a ship.

He doesn’t talk much with Cirus or Val. Again, cares for their well being but they just don’t have much in common to talk about.

Val does teach Hunk a lot about ASH’s system tho and sometimes joins him and pidge during their time working on ASH.

He tries to teach Cirus to cook but that man is hopless.

SPEAKING OF COOKING he hates malas godly bread skills.

how does she NOT know how she does it? she doesnt have a recipe???? nothing! JUST GODLY BREAD!

jk he and mala bond over cooking, hunk again tries to teach mala how to cook and she learns pretty quickly (isnt as good as hunk tho) but whenever she tries to teach him how to make bread it never turns out as good ;-;

Coran:

Cirus is happy that hes not the oldest one anymore. Both Coran and Allura are sure Cirus is altean because of his markings so Coran’s first idea is “Im now this boys father”. Coran likes telling him about altea and in return Cirus tells him about the different planets he been to during his time as a soldier.

a family can be a ten thousand year old 50 year old and his 27 year old kid

Close with Val and ASH. ASH is honestly intimidated by him because they know hes a really good mechanic and might even have been world knowledge than her. Val and Coran like talking science shit and build little things together.

Once Val told Coran that he reminded her of her uncle and then that dived into where is her uncle/family, so she tells him basically her entire backstory (she kinda snaps it was a long week) and after that Coran adopts another kid

He doesn’t talk much with Aice or Mala but does enjoy their company, claims his cooking is better than Aice and has gotten into a few self defense debates with Mala, but they dont know much about each other.

Allura:

Like Coran thinks Cirus is altean (backstory to that i have a headcanon that the altean race survived but theyre kinda hanging on by a string because i dobt every single altean in all of the universe was on altea the day it was destroyed. allura and coran survived why couldnt have others?) and she enjoys telling him stories of altea like coran.

she hates ASH so much and nobody blames her. ASH tests her patients a LOT and disobeys her authority a lot. Allura tried convincing Val to just program them to be nicer but Val wants them to “become their own person and grow”

she then convinced cirus to convince val, it didnt work

she and val are pretty close, they like talking about their families and lost planets together (Ashara is still around, it’s just hidden and few have access to it) but they do fight over ASH a lot for the aforementioned reason.

Doesn’t really talk to Mala, Mala’s not a huge people person and is also very cautions. Mala finds it hard to beleive the princess of a dead planet from 10000 years ago is still alive so shes kind of untrusting of allura but allura is willing to give mala some time

She likes cooking with Aice and Hunk. Because all of the paladins dont have any other clothing asides from what they left earth with, their sleep clothing and their suits, and she and coran are they same way, she and Aice decided to take clothing requests.
