i might have forgotten something (it's been a while since I read Nana) but I think there is an interesting parallel to be made between Shin/Reira and Hachi/Asano... like, I know Shin is a sw and so it's different but the whole grooming experience, believing it's love etc, that would have been interesting to address, even if you do not consider it abuse (don't get me wrong, I do) it's still the experience of a teenager in love with an adult and going through a sexual relationship with that very same adult

And by doing those things, can he get out of his relationship with Reira and Ryoko - even if he hasn't truly identified WHY those relationships are wrong, him breaking away from them regardless from reason is an important step in his growth.

So yeah, there is totally a parallel there and I think it's a large part of the reason that Hachi and Shin's relationship works so well.

But I also think there is a potential parallel also to Yazawa's previous series in which side character Risa, who is 14 when she starts dating her future husband who is 17. They later have a child, Arashi from Paradise Kiss... And he's a rapist.

Like, I'm sorry... that's clear depiction of the cycle of abuse.

Yazawa, intentionally or not, has like so well depicted why romantic relationships between adults and teenagers is abusive.

And this 15 year old will have spent so many years of his life with her, attached and defensive of her condition.

And that is disturbing.
