I know its not canon but I always liked the idea that Flurry Heart grew up to be a normal pony. Never went on any princess-title-earning quest, no grand magical destiny, no real royal responsibilities. Just a normal pony (who happens to be an alicorn) free to enjoy life with her friends and hobbies

The Singles Mixer
Over the last few weeks, after returning from my overseas trip, my dating life hadas all but dried up. Conversations grow stale on Hinge. After a few days, messages start to drop off as life gets busy. People tread and retread topics. And even my own enthusiasm at finding love withers and dies on the vine. It doesn’t matter that some of my friends, both at work and in my personal life, look upon what I’ve written on this blog and feel inspired to put themselves on the market. Unfortunately, there hasn’t been much chemistry between me and a stranger on the internet. No whirlwind romance.
So, in a fit of desperation, I signed myself up to a singles event to mingle and chat with complete strangers at a suburban club with stereotypical Aussie pub food disguised as Italian. Fun!
As soon as I did though, I began to despair that I’d signed myself up for yet another disappointing experience. The doubts returned. Will people judge me too harshly because I don’t put on make-up? Should I wear a dress?
Long story short, there was a lot of dread leading up to the event. In the end, I mustered as much courage as I could and went with a nice pair of black skinny jeans, a shirt and vest combo along with a blazer.
You may ask, dear reader, why I was so dressed up. Well, the answer is simple. It was bloody cold! A wintry polar chill was blowing through Sydney in early May. While I did not know where we would be sitting beforehand, it was lucky I dressed warmly for we were outside. Well, maybe not technically outside but it was in an area of the club that was open to the cold cutting wind.
Thankfully, I’m always prepared and I didn’t suffer too much. Else I might have walked away from the mixer with more than just disappointment.
As soon as I entered, I was caught off-guard by the large jump in age ranges for those in attendance, as well as the diversity of people that were there. So many came from various walks of life. As for me, I quickly found a spot at the kid’s table (which was essentially the 30-40 year olds) before I was joined by a man from Hong Kong.
Like I’ve told many a work colleague and friend, this man was...well...very loud. At least, that’s the best way to describe him in a single word. As soon as we met, he boasted that he had just turned 40 this year and wasn’t shy at admitting that he had been previously married and had two kids. These are important facts, by the by, as Hong Kong would repeat it numerous times throughout the night without much prompting.
The next person I met was from Jordan. Older than Hong Kong by a year, he too had previously been married but only had one child (a fact that Hong Kong was eager to say he beat Jordan in).
Fun fact, both Hong Kong and Jordan were civil engineers. Hong Kong was busy digging out tunnels for the West Connex while Jordan was responsible for constructing stadiums all across the world. These were facts that enticed the third man I met that day: Data.
And yes, I would have preferred referring to each other by ethnic background but Data never did mention it. He did, however, work in IT and it had taken some coaxing to get him to sit closer for a proper conversation. It was apparently Data’s first event of this kind with the dating agency. While it was technically my second (having previously attended a speed dating event prior to COVID), this had been my first real outing to try and mingle with people outside of my usual circle. So, I suppose in many ways, it was also my first.
We were later joined by a financial planner, lawyer, board game designer, two more individuals that dabbled in IT and a university student. Suddenly, there were three more women at the table, although we were still outnumbered by the men.
Ever so cautiously, we began to talk. Introductions were made when we told everyone our names, our profession, hobbies and a hidden talent/ something interesting that had happened recently. Of course, with the other tables also seating so many others, it was hard to hear everyone - especially when they were on the far end of the table opposite of where I sat. Occasionally, we were interrupted mid-introduction as the waiters came to take our drink and food orders.
Overall, I’d have to say that our conversations were quite tame. The only time it ever got remotely risque was when Hong Kong was regaling us with how the moments of his children’s birth had been the most joyous moment in his life although it had also been laborous day of worrying for his ex-partner. Oh, and that he would tell his ten-year-old daughter that she ought to have a natural birth. Something he repeated multiple times as if he knew exactly what it was to have a natural birth. Hong Kong, of course, was a man. That he had never carried a child to term or felt the most agonising pain that came with childbirth was something he glossed over. Natural birth was the way to go! He would have it no other way for every woman.
I, a woman, was quick to challenge his very set views. And while I wasn’t quite arguing that every woman should go Caesarian, I wanted to make clear that the miracle of birth was not something so easy as Hong Kong thought it was. Even the other women agreed that it should be personal choice or dependent upon the circumstances.
Hong Kong, it should be said, was very much a character. While I cannot say for certain how much was truth or slight exaggeration, he was also eager to tell us all that he had studied law and geology (or earth science as he described it). It was for this very reason, and because of how he was raised, that he was against food waste (which is admirable) and that, you know, he was the father of two children.
He ate most of my salad and a chip that fell onto the relatively messy table.
So, while I would have liked to learn more about Jordan or the other people at the table, most of my interactions were limited by the gregarious nature of Hong Kong.
I will, admit, however, that I did have an interesting conversation that was, unfortunately, cut short with the man that dabbled in game design. From his own admission, it seemed that he was also an introvert. One whose social battery ran out more quickly with strangers than it did with his friends. And while there have been many a discussion into this interesting phenomena for introverts, I tried to explain it from my own experience of hiding away aspects that I feel would never fit quite well in a particular context.
For example, when talking to many of my work colleagues, I won’t really talk about video games as none of them really dabble in the hobby. I mean, it might be nice to go off on a tangent about the ones I like or the ones I’ve been currently playing but I know that they aren’t interested. True, they know I play them but it’s easier for us to talk about things that we have in common like TV shows or bemoan the fact that we’re all corporate drones.
Similarly, among my friendship circle, I don’t have many that share my enthusiasm for books or musicals. Sure, they might come to watch Wicked because it tickles their fancy, but I’ve had to find other people to go see Moulin Rouge or Six or The Rocky Horror Show. Even when it comes to books, I struggle to find those that have also read a majority of the Brandon Sanderson books or are willing to give the Rook and the Rose series a try (honestly, everyone, please read it).
Maybe I could find a Discord group to chat with others but my fandom rarely runs so deep that I feel compelled to chat about one thing for the rest of time.
Hence, I suppose, my very broad knowledge of pop-culture. But if you told me that Spider-Man travelled to another dimension with Mary Jane, I’d stare at you agog.
There are plenty of things that I know of only tangentially. And that’s fine too. Gate-keeping, an experience I experienced back in high school when Starcraft II came out, only limits the exposure of a good thing to others. This is especially prevalent when it comes to certain games that are praised for their difficulty, but can be found elsewhere too.
Regardless, these ‘facets’ of myself that I use in my daily interactions with other people are tiring. That I have to muster up enthusiasm for a person/ people that I don’t know when I’d rather pull out a book or stay at home and play through video games can be draining. In comparison, if you are among friends that share similar interests, it is easier to match your energy with theirs, especially if they’re more laidback about it all and don’t expect a prim perfect version of yourself.
Suffice it to say, I went out to meet people. I chatted to a few interesting characters, some I wouldn’t mind chatting to again. And I arrived back home late enough to have missed King Charles’s coronation but was early enough to catch Camilla get crowned as Queen. And there we have it! The Singles Mixer when no-one individual was that excited to interact with me except eat my food.
But maybe I came off as too strong.
It doesn’t matter.
What does matter was putting myself out there and being open to new experiences. And that is always worth it.
I think.

MLP + TTTE Crossover AU
Tumblr media
I want to flesh out this AU more. If I were to go through with it, I think I’d start it out as a Series of Fanfics and maybe adapt them through Trainz. That is if I can learn to use A New Era.
This AU takes place in Modern Day and starts at King Of The Railway and Season 17. The Events of Seasons 1 through 7 + Magic Railroad have already happened long before then.
Many Engines have been replaced with other, previously established Characters. For instance, Fergus replaces Timothy and Mallard replaces Spencer
Most of the Mane Six were hired to work on the Railway by Sir Stephen Topham Hatt, The Third Fat Controller, Before he retired in 2011. A Distant Relative, Miss Cadence Hatt, would assume control of the Railway
Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash come from the Mainland and found out about Sodor on Accident. They were around 10 and were supposed to take a train back home. But Dash was positive that she knew which train to take. They ended up at Vicarstown Station. Naturally, One was terrified and the other was eager to Explore
While the Station called their Parents and booked their trip back home, Gordon and Henry’s Crew were asked to keep the Girls at peace until they’re picked up
After a particularly long time, Sodor No. 3 and his Crew learned that Fluttershy liked Nature. Naturally, They took her to Henry’s Forest. This immediately put her at ease as she looked around. She saw all of the beautiful flora and always gave a warm smile to any fauna she saw. This experience made her fall in love with the Island’s Beauty
Rainbow Dash was astounded by how fast Sodor’s No. 4 could go. She asked how many records Gordon must have. Boosting his ego greatly only for it to be shot down by his crew. Saying that while he’s been trying to break the speed record held by his cousin, The Mallard, He’s never achieved it. Prompting Rainbow Dash to vow to help him break the record
They were grounded shortly after their Parents came to pick them up but they still looked back fondly on the memories. And would apply for jobs on the Railway soon after graduating High School
Rarity used to visit Tidmouth Station often just to admire the Paintwork on the Engines. They’d even inspire some clothing designs. Riding in the Coaches and watching the Scenery gave her even more ideas and soon, She got more and more invested in the line
In attempts to get more inspiration, She tends to work Intern jobs on occasion. The experiences bring more ideas. As such, She isn’t afraid to get her hands dirty... Unlike the Engine she rode in once
James: My Paintwork! Rarity: Get over yourself! You have work to do!
She’s figured out that she’d rather create Designs for Clothes and sell them rather than make dozens herself. So in order to maintain a more constant source of Income, She’ll work with Sodor’s No. 5 to keep him in Check
I haven’t thought out Pinkie Pie’s Origin yet. It involves being recommended as a Planner for a Station’s Christmas Party and becoming Percy’s Driver but I haven’t figured out the Details. I’ll come back to this if I come up with anything
Toby makes a lot of deliveries for Smith’s Apple Farm. (He was astounded by how much you can do with Apples)
Applejack wanted to go out and see more of the Island. So sometimes, She rode with Sodor’s No. 7 to help with the deliveries. Eventually, She became his Driver.
Sometime after the death of Thomas’ Last Driver, A Young Woman named Sunset Shimmer applied to replace him. She wasn’t really the best person however. Often times, Thomas was rather tired and cranky from having to put up with her. But he never told The Fat Controller that he should replace her. She still needs a job. Or so he thought until later. But we’re getting ahead of ourselves
Long after The Fat Controller’s Retirement, Cadence Hatt would assign a recent graduate of Crystal Prep to be Edward’s New Driver. Her name is Twilight Sparkle. and she absolutely loves Trains. She’d always do research on them in her free time and even took a special class on them. And when Edward’s Driver retired, Cadence knew exactly who his successor should be.
I’m too tired to come up with the backstory for the Engine’s Firemen and Women. So I’m just going to tell you them upfront: Starlight Glimmer is Thomas’. Spike is Edward’s. Wallflower Blush is Henry’s. Scootaloo is Gordon’s. Sweetie Belle is James’. Cheese Sandwich is Percy’s and Apple Bloom is Toby’s
Realistically, I’m sure that Shining Armor would replace The Thin Controller but I really want him to replace The Small Controller. Just imagine this big buff boi riding one of these tiny little trains
Sodor’s Countess is named Celestia. She’s not only the current monarch of the island but also the head of a Museum at Ulfstead Castle. She gave Twilight a tour of it during her first visit and would grow to be a sort of teacher figure for her.
A Second Seat next to her is reserved for her Sister, Luna. Who’s been traveling the world for the past few years
Luna: PREPARE YOURSELF, SODOR! FOR THE ERA YOU’VE GROWN TO KNOW HAS COME TO AN END! HAIL THE REIGN OF COUNTESS LUNA!! Celestia: Did you get that all out of your system? Luna: Yes~
Sodor loves Countess Luna
Regardless of whether or not I end up going somewhere with this, I absolutely plan on explaining how the events of King Of The Railway unfold. Please feel free to ask any questions if you have any

Winter Haze
Was in a weird funk this evening, so this happened! I have a playlist of what I was listening to during the writing of this; if anyone wants that info as they read lemme know.
Also we get NSFW in this one, just an fyi. Smut can be healing because of...reasons. That’s as much energy as I have to elaborate on that right now tbh.
I took liberties with how train cars were and are because I could barely write today, let alone research at my usual pace. Forgive the inaccuracy, and enjoy the fantasy of a train car and compartment of said car that I sort of designed as I wrote to make it fit what I needed it to do.
If anyone likes this enough to want a part two of them actually in the city I send them to in this one, lemme know on this post or via ask or message or carrier pigeon or whatever mode of communication you prefer, and I’ll try and get it out and done before the holiday break is over. I work most of it, but I’ll have a day or two where I should be able to write some, and I have Ideas for the Boys in The City.
The decision to spend Christmas Eve and Day away from everyone wasn’t lightly made, but it was made quickly, and in the simplest of motions. A quiet conversation about how much money a train ticket for each of them would cost, a phone call to Mary (Sid was out) to ensure she or Sid could check on the animals each day they were gone, and packing in a rush as they reassured the cats and the dog with soft kisses and words that they would return.
Exactly what the journey was supposed to shake, Snafu couldn’t say. There had been the usual ennui of the winter months, the repetition of work and just enough time after at home to try and relax before doing it all over again. The preparation of gifts bought months ago in advance for the holiday (Eugene was ever a planner, buying the first gift last March, a knife set for Sid to use when he went out hunting.)
Those gifts were sat in the front hall closet now, where they would likely remain until they returned. They’d given Sid and Mary permission to divvy them up and take them to the appropriate people if they wished, since most of their friends and family in Mobile met at Eugene’s parent’s house for Christmas, but they’d refused, not wanting them to miss out on seeing them opened.
As rude as he figured it was, Snafu couldn’t bring himself to care about that. He still wanted the people getting the gifts to enjoy them of course, but needing to make an event out of the gift-giving wasn’t necessary this year.
Eugene had bought the tickets at the station, to where Snafu didn’t ask and again found he didn’t care. There was a lot he didn’t care about right then, except for getting on the train, holing up in the sleeper car for two Eugene had insisted they get even with its extra cost, and simply existing there, with Eugene, who seemed to be in a similar sort of mood.
They both had been for weeks though, struggling to do much more than wake, go to work, keep the cats and dog fed and loved and entertained, exchange a quick kiss or hug before settling to sit in the living room after work to try and fail to read a book or whittle or do any of their other usual hobbies, then going to sleep to do it all over again the next day. Any conversations about it previously had floundered, not for a lack of trying and not in any anger or frustration, but in exhaustion.
Hence, the trip. They already had the time off of work, and while there were sure to be complaints from everyone else (excepting the understanding Sid and Mary) for them not being at the usual celebrations, it was otherwise a perfect time to go.
They didn’t speak all the way through the station. They didn’t need to. It was muscle memory, the pace at which Eugene liked to walk through the station (quickly enough to get to the train more than on time, but not so quick as to be pushing anyone else aside, especially any women and children or elderly trying to parse their way through the busy station), the way he’d reach for Snafu’s hand in a big enough crowd to ensure they wouldn’t get separated, how he always wanted Snafu to let him on the train first (so he could reach back out and take Snafu’s suitcase with one hand, the other reaching out to help him up onto the train.)
Finally, inside the sleeper car with the door shut tight and the curtains on the windows of the compartment pulled to block out any light or curious eyes, Eugene sighed.
“Feels safe now, doesn’t it?” Snafu asked.
“That’s exactly it. I haven’t been able to put a word to it till now,” Eugene replied, dropping onto one of the beds, his suitcase haphazardly shoved underneath it.
“I know the feeling. It didn’t hit me until we got in here, but man...I still can’t explain it anymore than that. We got no reason to feel unsafe back at home,” Snafu said as he put his suitcase in the holding rack above the other bed, then moved Eugene’s from the floor onto the rack of his bed.
He nearly dropped it as Eugene’s fingers traced at his stomach through his shirt, cooled by the winter air but welcome all the same.
“The routine of it all, maybe,” he continued as he finished placing the suitcase, then knelt by Eugene’s bed, taking those same fingers to his lips to kiss them gently. “Different sorta danger.”
“Staleness,” Eugene remarked. “Maybe not as bad as never knowing what’s gonna come next, having too much going on, but-”
He shrugged as best he could laying on the bed, his eyes meeting Snafu’s, looking warmer than they had in weeks, months even. “Still bad. You know exactly what’s coming, and that unless you do something, nothing different is likely to show up unless it’s some horrible emergency to fix. Forgetting every day, every week, because they all blend into one slurry.”
“Like the muck on Peleliu,” Snafu murmured. “Just tragic in a different way. Less human loss, more...”
“Destruction. Internally mostly, instead of both internally and externally. And not for any great effort or cause or need, just a result of living the way people say you should. Day in, day out, barely noticing any of it passing by because it never changes,” Eugene finished. “I wish they had beds that could fit two people on these.”
Snafu nodded, then peered at the clasp that the beds tucked into, to hold them up and allow the regular seats to be pulled from where they tucked into the walls of the car. “Can you get up for a second?”
Eugene nodded, and stood, watching him work.
He stole the pillows from the beds before pushing them into the clasps, making sure they were held tight before freeing a blanket from one of the two extra suitcases they’d brought with them (four total suitcases was maybe an excessive number for two people, but if he told the truth, neither of them really gave a shit about that) and spread it on the floor. They had, however, only brought the one blanket with, so he popped free the beds for a second to steal the blankets from those, settling them on top of the one on the floor as best he could.
“It ain’t gonna be the comfiest, or perfect, but-”
Eugene dropped to the floor on his knees beside him, and pulled him close for a kiss, a hand on his back to hold them both upright as the train jerked to life and started it’s journey, the sound of the engine muting their moans as they lay on their makeshift bed, their shoes hitting the door of the compartment.
“I didn’t move the blanket up far enough,” Snafu giggled in between kisses.
“Shit,” Eugene laughed. “You stay put.”
“What? No, let me-”
Before Snafu could move, Eugene was there at the top edge of the blanket, pulling it further away from the door (not that there was much further to pull it, the compartment being only so big), with Snafu still on it.
“There,” Eugene smiled as he lay back on top of Snafu, pressing a kiss to his neck. “Better?”
Snafu nodded, and pulled at Eugene’s jacket sleeve. “Awful lot of layers left on you. Don’t know if you’ve noticed, but we ain’t outside in the cold anymore. You can take that off.”
Eugene stood, and stripped off the jacket, tossing it to the far corner of the compartment. “Good?”
“Mhm,” Snafu mused. “Tie really isn’t needed either.”
Eugene grinned, and pulled it free, tossing it to Snafu.
He caught it and tossed it behind him without looking. “What about that shirt? Awful warm, that shirt.”
Eugene laughed and shook his head, but started to unbutton it.
“Let me help you. Those fingers must still be froze up,” Snafu said, and moved to crawl forward to Eugene, getting onto his knees so he could reach for the bottom buttons of Eugene’s shirt.
Eugene’s hand was in his hair, playing with it gently as Snafu undid the rest of the buttons, pulling his head to rest against Eugene’s waist once the shirt was undone.
He pressed his face to Eugene’s stomach before carefully biting at the buckle of Eugene’s belt.
“Just real warm in here, isn’t it?” Eugene asked with a giggle. “Don’t really need any of these clothes.”
“No sir,” Snafu replied, moving away from Eugene to start stripping off his own clothes. His eyes stayed on Eugene though, watching him take off everything else, tossing it into the rest of the clothing pile they’d created. He was only half undressed, his belt just undone by the time Eugene was in front of him, completely and perfectly naked.
He motioned Eugene over anyway, too eager to wait any longer to touch and be touched.
It wasn’t that they couldn’t have this back at home, and a good most nights they did, sometimes to their own frustration the next morning if they were up too late. But there was something different about it here, just as good but something else at the same time, being able to be safely behind a locked door, being taken somewhere else, with nothing to worry about except each other.
He could taste that feeling, in every kiss, in the way Eugene’s fingers scrabbled to help pull off the rest of his clothes, in the way Eugene’s hips rocked against his. It was otherworldly and strange and familiar all at the same time, and he didn’t want it to end.
They were somewhat limited by the size of the compartment, but he wasn’t prepared to let that put a damper on anything. He had a small container of Vaseline secreted away in his suitcase that he moved quickly to grab, earning a fussy and yearning whimper from Eugene the second he was gone, returning to slick it onto both of their hard cocks so he could focus on everything else. Letting their hips move together, hands roaming, lips everywhere they could reach in a quick moment, leaving marks on each other’s necks and shoulders, making them gasp just loud enough that he had to ponder if anyone in the next compartment could hear them.
Not that he really cared, as he figured politeness would prevent anyone from asking after them, and he was much more concerned with gently running his thumb over and around the head of Eugene’s cock, feeling Eugene’s teeth just a bit too sharp in the meat of his shoulder as his hips jerked and he could feel Eugene’s cock throb as cum hit his stomach.
He didn’t have a chance to reach for his own before Eugene’s hand was there instead, working him as softly and sweetly as only Eugene knew how to, pulling him close with his other arm around the back of Snafu’s neck, a leg wrapped over Snafu’s hips as they pushed against Eugene’s.
He let himself moan softly in between kisses to Eugene’s shoulder and chest, both hands wrapped at the back of Eugene’s neck, as he came with a shudder onto Eugene’s stomach.
For the next few minutes they stayed there, locked against each other, kissing. It was warm and soft and safe and if Snafu could have bottled and saved any moments of theirs, this was one he’d wanted bottled first.
But finally they had to move, using one of their shirts to clean up (not ideal, but they’d not sprung for the even more expensive sleeper car compartment that had its own bathroom, and even he didn’t want to go walking in between cars in that much of a state) before dressing again to go to the dinner car.
It wasn’t amazing fare, but it was edible, and he hardly paid attention to the food anyway. He only had eyes for Eugene, who could barely eat but for the giggles he got whenever their eyes met. Finally, they gave up on dinner and returned to the sleeper compartment, kicking off their shoes and clothes to put on their pajamas and snuggle underneath the thin blankets from the compartment beds.
“Where are we headed anyway?” Snafu asked as Eugene tucked himself up under his arm, both of them wanting to be as close as possible. The darkness settled over the compartment now, as they’d left the lights off so neither of them would have to get up to turn them off later.
“New York City. Was one of the only spots they still had these sorts of tickets available. No idea what we’re going to do there though,” Eugene replied with a chuckle.
“I don’t care,” Snafu said with a smile. “Whatever it is, it’s gonna be good.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah. ‘Cause it’s gonna be you and me, and that’s always good,” Snafu kissed the top of his head, and settled in for the night. He didn’t know how long it took to get to New York, but he didn’t care. He had his man and time to spend with him, and that was all that mattered.

Virtual Reality for Tourists

Memory of a Place
Tumblr media
Bridge Square in Minneapolis, 1867. Source
Here is one version of a story:
In “Building Dwelling Thinking,” the philosopher Martin Heidegger muses on the ability of a bridge to transform space into place. “With the banks, the bridge [...] brings stream and bank and land into each other's neighborhood. The bridge gathers the earth as landscape around the stream.” Where a bridge touches down, the earth gains new significance and the potential for something to happen.
Minneapolis became a town in 1856, a year after the original Hennepin Avenue Bridge connected it to the town of Saint Anthony across the river. Hennepin and Nicollet Avenues converged on the bridge, creating a triangular engine of commerce and life that propelled Minneapolis into cityhood by 1867 and led it to absorb Saint Anthony by 1872.
The bustling nexus of Hennepin and Nicollet came to be known as Bridge Square. Though largely unplanned and plagued by infrastructural shortcomings such as a lack of sewers, the area became the heart of the city and developed an organic kind of order with City Hall opposite the bridge and a lively diversity of businesses and residences along the sides.
Tumblr media
Minneapolis City Hall in 1900, flanked by Hennepin Avenue on the right and Nicollet Avenue on the left. Source
The relocation of City Hall to its current home in 1888 (several blocks south and east), the increasing use of the space by migrant workers in search of recreation rather than well-rounded public space, and the movement of key retailers to larger and newer buildings elsewhere in the city all contributed to the decline of Bridge Square into a skid row in the early years of the 20th century.
Rather than look for creative ways to rejuvenate the space while accommodating the needs of the lumberjacks and farmhands who called the square their seasonal home, the city planned to rebuild the area in a sterile Beaux-Arts style inspired by the City Beautiful movement.
Tumblr media
A 1917 plan for the Gateway area, featuring a diagonal connection to the newer City Hall. Source
The City Beautiful overhaul never happened on the scale shown above, but the old City Hall and over a dozen other buildings were demolished to make way for a Gateway Park, completed in 1915. The area ceased to be known as Bridge Square.
Tumblr media
Gateway Park, 1922. Source
The park largely failed in its goal of sanitizing the space. Although Prohibition effectively closed the saloons and limited public drunkenness, speakeasies and disguised brothels continued to flourish in the 1920s. The 1930s brought the Great Depression and made the Gateway District a gathering place for the down and out.
While many commentators then and now characterize the Gateway District as overrun by degenerates during this period, it is important to remember that those in power always have motivation to vilify the disadvantaged. As Kirsten Delegard puts it on the Historyapolis blog:
In the historic heart of the city, the alcohol flowed freely, the idlers wiled away their days in the park and on the sidewalks; the prostitutes were brazen; men sought sexual encounters with other men; the buildings were dilapidated and vermin-ridden; the communists and Wobblies called for the overthrow of capitalism and the American political system. Its flophouses sheltered people not welcome elsewhere. In these squalid conditions, a community took shape that included exhausted lumberjacks and harvest hands; alcoholics wanting to drink out their last years in peace; Chinese men seeking respite from West Coast racial violence; Native Americans looking for anonymity in the big city.
Tumblr media
Source
First the Depression, then wartime, then postwar urban abandonment ensured that the Gateway area was in an advanced state of decay by the 1950s. Add to that the Second Red Scare and a mid-century, car-centric ethos and it’s no surprise that planners favored wiping the slate clean over rehabilitating the historic heart of the city.
Tumblr media
Gateway Park right before its razing. Source
Over 200 buildings in the Gateway District were leveled between 1959 and 1965, wiping the city’s oldest area off the map. Nicollet Avenue (Nicollet Mall by 1967) was truncated at Washington, destroying the longstanding intersection of Nicollet and Hennepin that gave natural order to the space. In the following decades the blocks of the district were populated with modernist towers, largely unused green space, and vast expanses of parking lot.
See the flagpole at the terminus of the old park below?
Tumblr media
Gateway Park. Source
It’s the one thing that remains in a public space that has become a no-place.
Tumblr media
This is the view, just past the flag, of the so-called Gateway Park that exists today:
Tumblr media
The Minoru Yamasaki-designed office building whose portico frames a view to Nicollet Mall is graceful in its own right. It even attempts to respect the history of the area by allowing a visual connection between the shortened Nicollet and the place where it used to meet Hennepin. But the area as a whole lacks coherence. It is a place to be driven through, or rarely passed through on foot. But there’s no compelling reason to linger and nothing resembling public life. Here are some maps to help visualize the change:
Tumblr media
A cropped section of a 1914 map of Minneapolis. Source
Tumblr media
Approximately the same area today, in Google Maps
The parking shown lot below occupies the same space as the impressive hotel that used to preside over the head of the park (see the picture of the dilapidated park from earlier).
Tumblr media
On a personal note, I’ve often been drawn to this area despite its nowhereness. Partly it’s that Yamasaki building, partly it’s the river that attracts me. But maybe it’s also the ghosts of city and people past. The residual magnetism of Bridge Square and Gateway Park, rowdy lumberjacks and horse-drawn carriages, soapbox speeches by working men hoping to change the conditions of their lives. All you can hear now is the dull roar of traffic.
That’s one story.
It’s a story you can find on countless blogs and history sites. It’s a true and an important story, but it’s also a falsification by omission. And selective forgetting is a kind of violence.
Let’s tell this backwards — at the end of this post and in reverse chronology; starting in the general vicinity and zeroing in, event by event, to the place that gave birth to Bridge Square. Not because any of it can unhappen or because the grim chain of implication and causality should be obfuscated, but because history is alive and to suggest that it is buried or no longer relevant is to perpetuate violence. The memory is still here and so are the Dakota, no matter how hard some have tried to erase both.
From 1862 to 1863, just a few years before and a few miles downriver from the Bridge Square at the top of this post, over 1,600 Dakota women, children, and old men were held in a concentration camp in the shadow of Fort Snelling. Conditions were brutal. Cholera claimed over 300 lives before the prisoners were released and transported to drought-ridden land.
Tumblr media
Dakota internment camp on Pike Island. Source
The internment was retaliation for the U.S.-Dakota War of 1862, a conflict that began with an attack on white settlers by Dakota men but really began with decades of dishonored treaties and stolen land, with a shortage of food and money and options. A conflict that ended with the largest mass execution in U.S. history, with the digging up and dissecting of Dakota bodies by doctors, with varnished Dakota bones in a kettle in the home of the Mayo Clinic’s founder, with the nullification of all previous treaties and the attempted expulsion of the Dakota from the state of Minnesota by way of bounties on their heads.
But further back, and closer to our origin point. The exact land that was to become Bridge Square, in 1852:
Tumblr media
1852 daguerreotype by Tallmadge Elwell. Source
There is no bridge yet. The John H. Stevens house, Minneapolis’s first building, is just visible in the background, but it is the Dakota tepees that dominate the frame. The roar of Saint Anthony Falls is probably audible from here; they are not yet destroyed by a rabid lumber industry.
1805. Zebulon Pike makes an unauthorized treaty with the Dakota to purchase the land including the falls and the future Bridge Square. The U.S. government will retroactively reduce the agreed-upon purchase price by 99.9% and consider it paid. The ultimate goal of the purchase is to construct Fort Snelling. The island that will house the internment camp will bear Pike’s name.
1680. The egotistical Father Louis Hennepin is the first white explorer to see the majestic waterfall that the Dakota call Minirara (curling water), Owahmenah (falling water), or O-Wa-Mni (whirlpool), and that is known to the Ojibwe as Kababikah (severed rock) and Kichi-Kababikah (great severed rock). Hennepin names the falls after his patron saint and proceeds to write a sensational description that will attract more explorers and eventually settlers from his home continent. He also tells his countrymen that the Dakota, who control this stretch of river, will suffer God’s judgment because they “violate the Law of Nature, and live in Stupidity.” They need to be civilized into submission before they can be converted.
And then there is a time not measured or recorded in the Year of Our Lord. And it is not a bridge but a waterfall that makes a place, because the people who use the river as a road need to come ashore and carry their canoes from one level to the next, and where people rely on the ground the land has meaning. An island just downstream of the thundering falls is home to a woman’s spirit and death song. An island to the north is a place to give birth.

Divi is a theme that can simply do anything you ask it to do, so we’ve included it in this eCommerce WordPress themes collection.  I couldn’t find a great example in Elegant Themes demo section, so I found one out in the wild.  This is an actual real live use of Divi by a buyer of the theme.  It looks pretty nice as a watch shop, so I’m imagining it’ll look pretty sweet for just about any product.  You’ve probably already heard about how powerful Divi’s drag and drop page builder can be, but page builders can scare some people off.  While the flexibility is nice, it can be intimidating to attempt to design your website from the ground up.  Luckily, there are tons of pre-designed layouts you can choose from if you’re worries you won’t be able to set your eCommerce site up yourself.  This theme is likeable for many reasons, swift support, succinct documentation, handsome designs and the fact that any style website is possible.

Wright
Wright is an ultra-minimalist theme that’s a solid blend of blog, eCommerce and portfolio.  I really like the minimalist design and all the benefits you get from having a minimalist site.  It doesn’t mean that your website will lack features, but it does mean it will load up lightning fast and look great on any size screen.  That provides a great user experience and makes it more likely that you can convert traffic into sales.  That’s the big thing, if somebody ends up on your website, that’s the hard part.  You really don’t want to lose that sale because your site loads slow or looks janky on somebody’s mobile phone.  That won’t happen with Wright, because it is a completely mobile friendly experience and that makes for the best user experience possible.  Wright could be the best eCommerce minimalist theme around.  To see more clean WordPress themes, check out our collection.

For those watching on the sidelines, scroll along and you’ll find a treasure trove of fun Seattle ideas and resources for future cons or trips you might make to this fair city by the sea.
And if you’ve been waffling on whether or not to take the plunge (to attend the conference — I wouldn’t recommend plunging into the Puget Sound, it’s quite cold), there may still be time:

The delight is in the details
MozCon is literally brimming with things to do and ways to support our attendees when they need it. Aside from our hosted events and three days’ worth of talks, we’ve got things to fill in the cracks and make sure your MozCon experience is everything you’ve ever wanted from a conference.
Photobooth with Roger: Admit it — you see that cute, googly-eyed robot face and you just want to hug it forever. At MozCon, you can do just that — and memorialize the moment with a picture at the photobooth! Roger’s a busy bot, but his photobooth schedule will be posted so you can plan your hugs accordingly.
Ping pong play sesh: Don your sweat bands and knee-high socks and keep your paddle arm limber! During breaks, we’ll have ping pong tables available to burn some excess energy and invite a little casual competition.
The world map of MozCon: Ever play pin the tail on the donkey? Well, this is sort of like that, but the donkey is a world map and (thankfully) there’s no blindfold. You’ll place a pin from wherever in the world you traveled from. It’s amazing to see how far some folks come for the conference!
Local snacks galore: Starbucks, Piroshky Piroshky, Ellenos Yogurt, and Top Pot Donuts will happily make themselves acquainted with your tastebuds! Carefully chosen from local Seattle businesses, our snacks will definitely please your local taste pallet and, if past feedback is to be believed, possibly tempt you to move here.
Stay charged: Pining for power? Panicking at that battery level of 15% at 10am? Find our charging sofas to fuel up your mobile device.
MozCon is for everyone
We want marketers of all stripes to feel comfortable and supported at our conference. Being “for everyone” means we’re working hard to make MozCon more accessible in many different ways. The Washington State Convention Center is fully ADA compliant, as are our other networking event venues. But it’s important for us to get even better, and we welcome your feedback and ideas.
Here are a few of the ways we’ve worked to make MozCon a welcoming event for everyone:
A ramp on the stage
Live closed captioning of the main event
Walkways for traffic flow
Menus featuring options or special meals (that actually taste good) for dietary restrictions
A nursing room
Gender-neutral bathroom options
Lots of signage
T-shirts that fit different body types
Visible staff to help make everyone’s experience the best possible
A proud partnership with 50/50 Pledge, furthering our commitment to better representation of women on stage
Strict enforcement of our Code of Conduct and TAGFEE
Bespoke city exploration — Get to know Seattle!
In years past, Tuesday nights were reserved for our MozCon Ignite event, where brave folks from myriad backgrounds would share stories in lighting-fast Ignite-style talks of five minutes each — the only rule being it can’t be about marketing!
While MozCon Ignite has always been a much-loved and highly anticipated event, we’ve also listened closely to your feedback about wanting more time to network on your own, plan client dinners, go on outings with your team, and in general just catch your breath — without missing a thing. That’s why this year, we’re folding Ignite into the official MozCon schedule so everyone can benefit from the tales shared and enjoy a fun five-minute break between SEO talks.
Wondering about what topics will be covered at Ignite this year?:
The Ninja Kit to NOT Get Sick While Traveling by Dana Weber at Seer Interactive
My Everest: How 10 Years of Chasing Tornadoes Came Down to One Moment by Tom Romero at Uncommon Goods
Baseball Made Me a Better Engineer by Tom Layson at Moz
Trailblazer: How Reading One Book Changed My Life for Good by Lina Soliman at OSUWMC
Drag Queen Warlocks, Skateboarding Sorcerers, & Other Folks by Jay Ricciardi at Tableau
Voice Dialogue Therapy: Listening to the Voices Inside Your Head by Kayla Walker at Distilled
We’re opening up Tuesday night as your chance to explore the Emerald City. We’ll have a travel team onsite at the conference on Tuesday to help you and your friends plan an exciting Seattle adventure. Perhaps you’ve met a fantastic group of like-minded folks at a Birds of a Feather lunch table and would love to talk featured snippets over fresh fish n’ chips at the Pike Place Market. Maybe you’ve always wanted to catch the view at the top of the Space Needle (recently renovated and reopened to provide even better views!). Or perhaps a quiet sunset picnic overlooking the water at Gasworks Park seems like the perfect way to relax after a long day of learning and networking. Regardless of whatever floats your boat, we encourage you to plan local meetups, invite your newfound and long-standing friends, and forge a few irreplaceable Seattle memories.
Wondering what there is to do, drink, eat, and see in Seattle?
Well, who better to ask than us Seattleites? Using tons of real suggestions from real Mozzers, we’ve put together a Google Map you can use to guide your exploration outside the confines of the event venue — check it out below!
Seattle’s got more to offer than we can name — get out there and discover the renowned Emerald City quirks and quaintness we’re famous for!
Travel options:
Seattle’s got a pretty solid transit system that can get you where you need to go, whether you’re traveling by bus or train. The city also has its share of rideshare services, as well as taxis, bikes, ferries, and water taxis, depending on where you're headed.
Public transportation
King County Metro Trip Planner: Traverse the city by bus! You can also download an app to get real-time bus info (I like the One Bus Away app, developed here in Seattle by University of Washington grads)
Light Rail: Connecting the north end to the south, the Light Rail can move you across Seattle quickly (and even drop you off right at SeaTac for your flight home!)
Water taxis and ferries can float you right across the Sound (and offer a lovely view while they’re at it)
A Transit Go ticket or ORCA card will happily power your public transit excursions
Bikeshare programs: As you wander the city, you may notice brightly colored bicycles patiently awaiting riders on the sidewalks. That rider could be you! If you’re feeling athletic, take advantage of the city’s bikeshare programs and see Seattle on two wheels.
Rideshares and taxis
Uber & Lyft can get you where you need to go
Moovn is a Seattle startup rideshare company
Two taxi services, Seattle Yellow Cab and Orange Cab, allow for online booking via their apps (or you can call ‘em the old-fashioned way!)
Are you ready to rock MozCon?!
If you’re already MozCon-bound come this July, make sure to download the app (must be on mobile) and join our Facebook group to maximize your networking opportunities, get to know fellow attendees, and stay up-to-date on conference news and activities.
If you’re thinking about grabbing a ticket last-minute, we still have a few left:
Grab a ticket while you can
And whether you’re going to be large, in charge, and live at the conference or just following along at home and eagerly waiting the video release, follow along with the #MozCon hashtag on Twitter to indulge in the juicy tidbits and takeaways attendees will undoubtedly share.
Sign up for The Moz Top 10, a semimonthly mailer updating you on the top ten hottest pieces of SEO news, tips, and rad links uncovered by the Moz team. Think of it as your exclusive digest of stuff you don't have time to hunt down but want to read!

Outstanding theme/documentation/customer service. I’ve never created a website, Wordpress or otherwise. Leo’s video tutorials and documentation made it a breeze. As the groom I’m not expected to do much in the way of wedding prep (thank god for that) but it’s nice to feel I contributed and that people appreciate the quality and effort. Maybe now again I’ll give credit where it’s do. (ThemeChills) Most of the time I’ll just bask in my own false glory. Cheers! - Bimbrie

Social Media Griddisplay Any Instagram Feed On Your Site
Tumblr media
So, you want to embed a Facebook feed on your website, blog, or other online destination – but you’re not sure of the best method? Not to worry, we’ll take you from unsure to embedded in just a few hundred words.
Buffer Publish lets you schedule social media posts to six of these 21 social media sites — Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Pinterest. If you want to manage more than one social media accounts on any of these six, we would love for you to try it for free for 14 days and experience what it can do for your business. Nextpost (now Instagram Media Planner) is an online marketing auto posting web application that allows you to auto post to Instagram, schedule and manage your Instagram accounts. You don’t even need to log-in and out of various social media platforms as you can conveniently manage multiple Instagram accounts from a single place. On their website they are displaying an Instagram feed with Enjoy Instagram carousel view. In homepage, it is working a Instagram Carousel feed with autoplay, margin between pictures, no dots for the navigations and linked to Instagram account. Below it’s possible to see the carousel. The 4-step guide on How To Embed Instagram Feed On Website For Free. We have created a 4 steps guide for you to create and embed Instagram photos on your website in simple and easy steps without any technical expertise or complexity. Show Instagram Feed in SquareSpace Navigate to the Squarespace Page where you want to show the Instagram feed. Navigate to the top right in the dark header of the block section and click the ‘+’ button. When the popover shows, click the content blog ‘ Embed ‘.
But first, did you know? As of December 2018, Facebook reports 1.52 billion daily active usersand 2.32 billion monthly active users. To put it in context, that’s 30% of the world’s total population.
That’s mind-boggling. It’s also a great reason to link your Facebook page with other front-facing media, including your website. From post likes and photo shares, to Page likes and one-on-one messaging, Facebook can serve as an important marketing and engagement tool.
Tumblr media
Are you wondering how to embed your Facebook Page feed on your website or blog?
And so, now you’re thinking about embedding your Facebook Page feed on your site, so you can introduce visitors to your social side and invite engagement, without ever directing them off your site.
We have three [simple] methods to get your from here to there. No serious tech skills required! (We promise not to deploy the acronym API, not even once.)
Method 1: use the Facebook page plugin
Facebook offers several built-in customizations to display your Page feed.
We love dead simple and when it comes to that, it doesn’t get much better than Facebook’s own Page Plugin. Seriously:
Visit the Page Plugin page;
Copy/paste in your desired Facebook Page URL (tip: it’s likely already there, if you’re viewing from a linked profile account);
Select your preferences, for example Tabs, Width, and Height of the output display;
Click Get Code;
Copy and paste the code into a blog post, your sidebar, or anywhere else on your website.
And… done? Well, not quite.
If you look back up to Step 3, let’s talk about those preferences for a moment. Facebook gives you quite a bit of play with how your embedded feed displays: For example, you can display your timeline with one code and showcase upcoming events or enable Facebook Messages with another. Comma-separate those bad boys, and you can have both.
Tumblr media
You could hide your cover photo or display it proudly. You can show friends [of your website browser] who like your page and/or flash your custom CTA. You can change the display language and even enable adaptive width displays, to appeal to any kind of website visitor. There are quite a few options available, so do have a look around before you click Get Code.
When to use method 1: If you need simple page feed display on your website, don’t want to fuss around, and are happy with the three basic options (display your timeline, comments, or message capabilities), then go for this free, Facebook-backed option.
Method 2: use plugins and/or widgets
Social Media Grid Display Any Instagram Feed On Your Site Page
While Facebook native code offers quite a few options, it does have limited functionality. So, what’s a social site to do, if the Facebook Page Plugin doesn’t adapt to their needs?
Enter the world of third-party plugins, which allow greater customization, especially for sites that wish to display their Facebook feeds in a grid layout (a common wish, by the way).
Here’s the hard part: There are many (many!) options and you’ll have to find the one right for you – for your website platform and for your customization needs. Here are a few:
Custom Facebook Feed Plugin for WordPress: A nearly 5-star plugin (on 200,000+ active installs) that’s extremely customizable, this one makes it easy to display multiple feeds and is even search-engine crawlable.
Recent Facebook Posts Plugin for WordPress: A highly rated plugin (with 20,000+ active installs) that allows WordPress site to render in HTML your recent Facebook Page updates.
Paid Options: If plugins aren’t your jam or your site doesn’t function on WordPress, there are still some super-customizable options. Sites like EmbedSocial and SociableKIT offer paid options ($15-$30 per month, for the lowest tiers).
Tumblr media
When to use method 2: If you need more customization than the Facebook plugin (method 1) allows, then you’re going to have to get a little technical. Put in a little bit of work (and maybe some cash), and you’ll be able to create beautiful, embedded Facebook feeds to display anywhere and everywhere.
Method 3: don’t embed; share
Here’s a thought: Why do you want to embed your entire Facebook feed? You may have a fantastic reason – and if you do, just scroll back up to Methods 1 and 2 – but if you’re just doing it because some internet rando told you to, you may want to rethink your strategy.
Because, here’s another thought: When you embed all your feed info on your site – for example, into your blog sidebar – you erase all mystery. There’s no question: What are they posting? What photos do they share? What do people have to say about them?
Tumblr media
So, as an alternative, you could instead embed share, follow, and reaction buttons – lower-level engagement that invites interaction without giving it all away.
The goal here is to invite social shares and/or draw people onto your Facebook page, where they’re more likely to engage – scroll through posts, like what appeals to them, etc. – and then, ultimately, to like your Page and follow your updates from now to eternity.
Social Media Grid Display Any Instagram Feed On Your Site Free
If this sounds like your kind of strategy, then have a gander at our Facebook Share button, Facebook Follow button, and Facebook Reaction buttons (Like, Love, Wow, etc.) – plus other Publisher Tools designed not only for user satisfaction, but to get you the most Page likes, post shares, and other engagement that matters.
Social Media Grid Display Any Instagram Feed On Your Site Account
When to use method 3: If you get a lot of Facebook engagement (that can only be shown off on your Facebook page) or, for whatever reason (page space, wonky code, an air of mystery…), you don’t want to embed your entire feed, but do want to invite shares and likes, this is the right choice.
No matter what, invite shares!
Even when you choose to embed you full Facebook Page feed on your website or blog, you should still invite shares, likes, and other engagement, too. Take 5 minutes to install our Facebook Follow Button, then sit back and watch your Facebook following grow overnight!

How to find your event planning platform
Corporate meeting designer . Wedding organizer. Conference coordinator. ORGANIZER party. The list goes on and on. In the world of event planning, there are many opportunities for specialization. If you are a professional event planner, you may be wondering if you too should have an event planning position.
The benefits
When it comes to the business services you provide, close focus is beneficial.
You will become an expert in your niche market and that quality is very attractive to potential event planning clients looking for a professional with skills, knowledge and experience in a particular area.
For example, if you need someone to install a fence in your yard, you will look for a professional with experience in fence installation. Next, you will limit the search to someone who has experience installing the type of fence you are considering. Similarly, if a business in your area hosts a professional industry gathering, it will look for an event planner with experience in corporate event planning. Having an event planning position makes it easier for you to market your services to potential customers and makes it easier for them to find you. It will save you valuable time. By specializing in a particular type of event planning, you will quickly become proficient in best practices for planning these events, all the elements involved, the latest trends and sellers they will hire.
With an event planning company focused on a specific area, you can save business costs by purchasing supplies that are only related to your specialty. Being an expert in any field has its advantages and in event planning, can translate into reduced costs and increased entrepreneurship.
Find your position
If you are a general event planner considering a specialization, how do you find your niche design?
The first step is to determine the needs of the market where you are. The decision to specialize in the event planning business is not based solely on your area of interest. Businesses that achieve this because there is a demand for whatever products or services they offer. Do not try to sell snowballs to the Eskimos. Examine the economic climate and businesses in your area. Are there large companies that organize conferences, special events and employee meetings? Is your local landscape a more valuable community with a clientele enjoying catered, stretched outdoor anniversary parties and customized children's birthday parties?
If you are unsure about the local market, get it for yourself to find out. Ask existing customers for their needs and interests to move forward. Talk to them about the range of services you are considering for your business and whether they will be interested. Ask sellers that you have relationships with where most of their business comes from. This will not only tell you the market demand, but can also lead to a quote or name of a contact for prospective businesses. Once you have identified the needs and interests of the market where you are running your business, then it is time to find your place for event planning.
When considering an event planning specialty, the first step is to decide if you want to focus on corporate event planning or social event planning.
Corporate Event Planning
Corporate event planning includes events organized by companies, charities and non-profit organizations. Companies can host any of the following events:
§  Annual contracts
§  Trade reports
§  Board meetings
§  Corporate retreats
Other corporate event planning opportunities may include:
§  Large business openings
§  Local amateurs
§  Save promotional events
§  Community awards ceremonies
While large-scale corporate events may require more experience and expertise, smaller local events provide an opportunity to enter an interesting market and experience the waters.
Planning social events
If you are interested in focusing on planning social events, the number of areas of specialization is increasing, such as:
§  Weddings
§  Shower and baby shower
§  Themed parties
§  Children's birthday parties
§  Landmarks and birthdays
§  Weekend events and local tours
Keep in mind that companies and businesses offer opportunities to plan social events, including picnic workers and holiday parties.
Outdoor corporate events ideas for summer
Because many organizations plan indoor seminars and events during the winter months, planning events for the warmer months of May through September offers a welcome change of pace and the opportunity to get out.
As an event planner, you should always be prepared to suggest summer event ideas for your various corporate hosting events, customer and employee appraisal events, product launches and even sales meetings. Here are seven of the best summer event corporate ideas to take advantage of summer weather.
· 01
- Excursions and golf tournaments
With approximately 27 million golfers in the United States, excursions and golf tournaments are one of the most popular corporate events each year. The design of a golf event is at the top of the list for consideration by most executives. Whether you plan your golf outing or make a day out of a golf event as a tournament on the PGA tour, do not forget to bring gifts of golf for your guests!
· 02
- Baseball Games
With a history dating back to the 1800s, designing an event surrounding America's favorite hobby remains at the top of the list for fun groups and crowds. Baseball teams and stadiums around the country have developed a variety of options for entertaining teams in the park, not to mention party and event options available just outside the park. Here are some baseball corporate ideas to consider:
§  Suites
§  Bleaching parties
§  Picnic party
§  Party venues and top deck
§  American League and National Baseball Stadium and entertainment options
· 03
- Horse racing events
"Win, place or see!" A day full of racing events, manicured terrain and fantastic food is a great way to build business relationships with either employees, customers or business partners. Numerous racetracks can be found in most states across the country. Group entertainment package options may include the following:
§  Millionaire Executive Suites and Dining Room
§  Marquee awnings
§  Frame seats
§  Meeting facilities
Event Advisor Program Tip: Make sure your program includes a group of winners for your guests.
· 04
- Concerts and artistic events
In almost every city there is a series of concerts "in the park" with some of the best artists in pop, folk, blues, jazz, opera, orchestra, country and world music. These music festivals include kiosk or lawn tents, private group entertainment venues and private dining options. These choices of events, combined with live music, the natural landscape of the park, the night sky and maybe some wine and cheese will be a definite hit for a corporate event.
Event Planner Tip: In addition to music programs, many city center parks are planning an open-air community theater in the park. If they do, consider a family BBQ night or similar outdoor event followed by the entertainment performance of the game.
· 05
- Cruise and sailing events
If you are near water - an ocean, a lake or even a river - chartering a private yacht or boat during the day or night offers incredible views and is sure to help you deliver a successful project. Depending on your location, most cruise lines charge a minimum of three or four hours, and weekend rates are higher than weekdays. The following are popular choices for corporate events:
§  Booze Cruise (cocktail with live music)
§  Brunch or dinner cruise
§  Historic or architectural cruise
Event Planner Tip: In addition to a captain with a great personality, consider hiring a teacher to help you as a guide and storyteller if your local site offers interesting or historical views.
· 06
- Motorcycle speed events
NASCAR is known to have some of its most loyal followers. If your guests are among these fans, hosting an event at one of the famous engine speeds is a surefire way to please your guests. Similar to the Horse Track (number 3 above), mobile speeds offer private entertainment options for business events that include suites, meeting facilities and catering options that truly enhance the track experience.
Event Planner Tip: Consider hosting your event at a speed on a non-race day as an alternative to traditional business meetings in a hotel setting.
· 07
- Your own private hosting or adventure program
In addition to taking your team to the most popular events and entertainment venues in the city, there are countless other options you can consider to design a unique outdoor summer event . Consider planning a private party with ethnic flavors, music and dance performances as a corporate signature event in any of the following types:
§  The best patio of the restaurant
§  Art gallery and garden
§  Museum or zoo
§  Barn
§  Winery
§  Botanical Garden
Or, consider taking your team for a day at one of these scheduled group events:
§  Group retreat building in the forest
§  Fishing is prohibited
§  Horseback riding
§  Walking tours in the city
§  Hiking and cycling
§  Off-road trips and jeeps
