I love Original Percival Graves so much. He’s like- a very stern intimidating himbo. Definitely a himbo, but the opposite of the stereotypical happy-go-lucky golden retriever type. He’s a emotionally repressed dude who is literally the definition of whump.
I frequently read Newt Scamander/Original Percival Graves fics, and I always absolutely love that they are just- idiots in love. Percival is usually super besotted and smitten in fics and I love that.
I absolutely love how the Fantastic Beasts (movies) fandom circa 2016 saw him and his character and went ‘yup. this dude who went through trauma? he’s our new blorbo.’ Like- bitch I’m new-ish to the fandom and he’s already one of the two comfort characters I have.
My point is, Percy is my babygirl and I love him. Give me more Percival content guys!! I fucking beg of you! I wanna see into his head- I wanna see what makes him tick. I want to examine his whole personality like one of those police profilers. I love him, and I want more content.
I AM LINKING MY PERCIVAL GRAVES SPOTIFY PLAYLIST! MESSAGE ME IF YOU WANT TO ADD A SONG!

Newt/Percival fic - Chapter 1
https://archiveofourown.org/works/45152644/chapters/113586436
Newt grew up in the country. Whilst his older brother, Theseus, dreamed of fighting dark wizards in the big city, Newt found himself content amongst the wild things surrounding his family cottage.
When he was first shipped off to Hogwarts he couldn’t help but yearn for home. It was difficult making friends, loud personalities and boisterous teens only encouraged him to hide in the forbidden forest. The word ‘forbidden’ didn’t hold much weight with him, for the creatures he found within were too fascinating and rarely dangerous. He only excelled in class where he could apply the teaching to the beasts he spent his spare time with.
He did make one friend though: Leta. She was kind and patient, but forceful. He didn’t have much choice when it came to her friendship. She would sit with him in the dining hall, find him curled up with a book in the library, drag him along to classes he didn’t much care for, and sometimes outright follow him into the woods. She tried to understand him, even if she didn’t always succeed, and Newt found he made good company for the overly chatty girl. It wasn’t hard being friends with Leta. Sometimes he wondered that she may have struggled to make friends in the beginning as well, and found an amenable companion in him. He wasn't going to complain, either way.
As the years went on, and a definable passion emerged, Newt started paying a bit more attention to school. He scoured every book for information about his creatures - encyclopedias, potion recipes, spells, anything that gave him the ability to help those in need and understand them better. He barraged his professors with questions, many of which didn’t take too kindly to his apparent inability to stay on topic. He became quite skilled with his wand, charms and defensive magic coming naturally to him; it wasn’t anybody else’s business if he happened to use his teachings on a few occasions to protect the creatures under his care. He never aimed to hurt, only disarm, but an unconscious adversary was certainly a less threatening one.
Leta stuck with him over the years, and as Theseus matured he started paying more attention to his younger brother too. They listened patiently to his long, mostly one-sided, discussions of magical creatures, although their eyes did tend to glaze over at some point. Newt didn’t mind, he knew he was doing good work. Meaningful work.
Things became more…strained when Newt presented as an omega.
Nobody was surprised. He was soft for a male, despite growing to be quite lanky. He had always been gentle and nurturing too if his creatures were anything to go by. He was protective of those he loved, and the space he considered home. His mother was an omega, and when home he would spend any time away from his creatures with her, finding joy in mimicking the way of a housewife and mother. When he presented she was so proud, all the more encouraging of him being home, cooking, cleaning, and running the farmstead they had. His father, distant as he had always been with his youngest son, patted him on the head and assured him they would find him a good match.
His brother, however, took it upon himself to become a knight in shining armour. At home, Newt was mostly let be, for Theseus knew he was safe within the wards of their land. At school, however, Theseus barely left his side. He escorted Newt from his dormitory to the banquet hall to class and back to his dormitory. Newt struggled to slip away into the comfort of the forest except for in the middle of the night when Theseus was assuredly asleep. Despite being a prefect and captain of the quidditch team, Theseus always found a way to keep an eye on him.
‘It’s not that I don’t trust you, Newt. It’s the others I don’t trust. I know what it’s like to be a young alpha, all those hormones running rampant. I’m only protecting you from unwanted attention.’ Theseus reminded him, with a purposeful scowl at a nearby alpha who was simply walking past.
The only other person he trusted Newt’s safety with was Leta, who had early on presented as a Beta, continuing through puberty without too much pheromone-related hassle. She respected Theseus, although was the first to admit that he was overbearing. There were plenty of alphas and omegas at Hogwarts, with all the necessary support systems in place.
Newt only went to one of the classes they held specifically for omegas. A single hour of discussion about their role in society, their destiny to be mated, and their place at home left Newt feeling suffocated. He could withstand such teachings from his mother, who only did so out of love, but the propaganda feel of those classes didn’t sit well with him at all. As far as he was concerned, there was no reason he couldn’t travel the world and conduct his research.
He reminded everyone as much as possible about his plans. Leta was fully supportive of the idea, however, was under the impression that he would find a mate first ‘just to be safe’. Theseus would huff and scowl at every mention, determined that Newt would spend the rest of his days in the safety of his home, untouched. His parents didn’t understand, eventually growing frustrated with his determination.
‘That’s just not the way of the world for people like you, Newton’ his father would insist.
His mother would just play with his curls, her eyes downturned, ‘You’ll change your mind eventually, sweetheart’
It seemed his only true ally was Professor Dumbledore, who entertained his every dream and helped him learn as much as possible, even going as far as to find him unpublished research to work from. Theseus wasn’t a fan of the company Newt kept with his professor, Albus being an older, unmated Alpha, but he couldn’t well start a fight with a respected mentor. Albus was Theseus’ way into the Ministry, after all, the promise of an internship awaiting his graduation from Hogwarts. So Theseus would just huff and tell Newt not to do anything untoward.
Albus was a perfect gentleman, always giving Newt space and never saying a word out of place. It seemed he always had time for Newt, even when he was busy with teaching or ministry business. Newt was ever grateful for being treated, not as an omega, but as a person.
On his sixteenth birthday in the summer following his OWL exams, Newt was disturbed from his perch in the oak tree outside his family’s cottage by Theseus calling for him. He had been sitting very still, waiting for the resident Bowtruckle to make an appearance - gaining the trust of the small creature was a slow process, and required many an offering of woodlice it seemed, but Newt was patient.
‘Will you come down from there, please? You’re going to get hurt,’ Theseus stood just below him, arms crossed.
‘I know how to climb a tree, Thee,’ Newt slipped from his branch and landed softly on the grass, moving on before Theseus could start checking him for invisible injuries.
Inside, the kettle was whistling and the smell of fresh bread hung in the air. Newt’s mother came bustling over, pulling him into a soft hug, ‘Happy birthday, pumpkin.’ With a kiss on each cheek and a wave of her hand, the kettle poured them all a cup of tea. They settled at the dining table, Newt cradling the tea in his trembling hands and trying very hard to ignore the twist of nerves in his gut. He knew what was coming, he just remained hopeful it wouldn’t happen.
His mother pushed a present wrapped neatly in brown paper towards him. With a quiet ‘thank you’ he put down his tea and peeled open the package. Inside he found a book, practically a tome for how thick it was, titled The Way of the Omega: a guide for the newly-mated. Newt didn’t know how to react. His mother smiled gently, encouraging, Theseus was frowning as usual, and his father looked less stern than usual. They all waited for him to say something. Instead, he leafed through the book, finding chapters full of recipes and spells for the modern home keeper, an explanation of Omegan biology, and tips for navigating a mated relationship. Looking up at his mother, he tried to smile, ‘Thank you,’ He couldn’t bring himself to say anything else. He was going to fight this, but he has long since learned that arguing about it got him nowhere.
‘We’ve found a good match for you,’ his father announced, ‘He will be coming to visit tomorrow, just as an introduction-’
‘What if I don’t like him?’ Newt jumped in.
‘Then you don’t have to marry him. You don’t have to marry anybody,’ Theseus pressed.
His father sighed, ‘Then we will find you somebody else. There are plenty of eligible Alphas out there and I have a few in mind if this one doesn’t work out. There’s no rush,’
Newt knew that was a lie. They would have him mated as soon as possible, cooped up in a house far away, bound only for raising children and baking pies. Newt loved his mother and could see she was happy, but he didn’t want to live like her. There was too much world to see before he decided to settle.
The Alpha in question, it turned out, was actually quite handsome. He was tall with grey eyes, blonde hair, and a charming grin. He greeted Newt with a small bow, giving Newt respectable space, and introduced himself as Jeremiah Garnet, an associate of Newt’s father at the Wizarding Wireless Network.
‘So, Newton-’
‘Call me Newt, please,’
‘Of course, Newt, ’ Jeremiah grinned again, ‘How have you been getting on at our beloved Hogwarts?’
Newt swallowed, sat across from Jeremiah and felt almost like he was being interviewed. Why did he want to know about Hogwarts? ‘It’s, um, good. I guess,’
‘You have a favourite subject?’
Newt glanced at his father, who was supposedly chaperoning this visit as was required for unmated Omagas, ‘Care of Magical Creatures,’
‘Ah, the nurturing sort then!’ Jeremiah gave him a none-too-subtle wink, ‘How’s your Herbology? Always good to know what to grow at home,’
‘It’s fine. I’m mostly interested in medicinal plants,’
Jeremiah nodded slowly, ‘I saw a dragon at Hogwarts once, you know,'
Newt caught his father rolling his eyes but didn’t say anything. Jeremiah continued, prattling on about his various encounters with dangerous and fearsome dragons. Newt tried to listen but just ended up upset about how Jeremiah seemed to be under the impression that dragons were mindless monsters and not an incredibly intelligent species that were better off being left alone.
Newt barely said a word for the next thirty minutes, humming in agreement every now and then, and trying not to wince at the inappropriate frequency of winking as Jeremiah continued about his colourful career reporting around the world. Newt was quite sure most of these stories were embellishments but the alpha was attempting to appear impressive.
‘How about we write to one another, then?’ he eventually asked.
Newt smiled, ‘Sure,’
‘Excellent! Well, your father has my address,’ He stood up, straightening his clothes, and held out a hand. Newt thought he meant to shake it, so reached out, only to find Jeremiah’s dry lips pressed to the back of his hand, ‘It was a pleasure to meet you, Newt. I hope to hear from you soon,’ His father escorted their guest out of the cottage, and with that Newt was left alone.
As he washed his hands with more vigour than necessary, he watched his father and Jeremiah chat for a few minutes outside, feeling like there was a stone sitting in his stomach. How could he spend the rest of his life with a man like that? Have his children? Greet him every day when he comes home with more frivolous stories about his apparently exciting career? No. Newt wouldn’t settle for such a life - not for anybody.
His father returned a few minutes later and leant against the doorframe, ‘So?’
‘So?!’ Newt was perplexed, ‘You want me to be mated to him? Father, please,’
‘He’s a good man, Newton. Sure, he may be a little overzealous at times, but he is respectable, wealthy, and would provide you with a good life,’
Newt felt his eyes prick and panicked at the possibility of crying in front of his father, ‘I don’t want to be mated yet. Certainly n-not to him,’ he sniffed, ‘I don’t care if he’s a "good match",’
‘You don’t have a choice, Newton. This is your life. You can’t change your biology,’ his father paced, ‘If you don’t like him, then you will send him thanks for his time and we will move on to another candidate,’
Newt dashed from the room without another word, making it halfway to the back of the garden before the tears fell. Climbing up the old oak tree, he settled somewhere near the top, cradled between the trunk and a branch. There, he cried until he couldn’t anymore; until his throat was tight and his eyes sore. He didn’t resent his body for its nature, there was no changing what he was. He did, however, resent the society around him, for calling this unwanted mating “fate”. Despair tightened his chest - would he ever find a way to live the life he wanted? Exhausted, he fell asleep to the rustle of leaves.
At some point when the moon was high he gently came to, finding a Bowtruckle curled up on his chest, snoring softly.

Fighter Breakdown Tracker, episode 3x78
Welcome to what was originally an opportunity to talk about the myriad wizards (not Myriad wizards, a separate concept) of Campaign 2 that occasionally gets co-opted into other things when the thought arises. Anyway, obviously the main event was the Barbarian Breakdown and, relatedly, the Party Breakdown, due to their Communication Breakdown, giving Allura Vysoren specifically her 19th Nervous Breakdown, but I've already talked a lot about Ashton. How are the fighters doing?
As a reminder: characters are included on the basis of 1. are they a fighter, 2. are they remotely relevant to this campaign, and 3. do I have something funny to say about them. I cannot stress enough how important item 3 is in the decision process; do not make requests, my muse speaks to me and that is how the characters (and, to be honest, classes) are chosen.
Cassandra de Rolo: Yes! According to the Tal'Dorei Campaign Setting (not reborn) she's multiclassed into fighter! Anyway that plan to go to the ziggurat went well, huh? totally normal and great. I like to think that due to her rogue levels she saw Fearne march down the ziggurat steps and just peaced out and has been chilling in Pike's little cabin ever since. 4/10: normal "is the world ending" concerns but otherwise she's having maybe the best day anyone on the Whitestone War Council can.
Jarett Howarth: he's specifically avoiding Bells Hells because motherfuckers keep teleporting from Marquet and not bringing any fusaka. This, plus normal "putting the Pale Guard on a war footing and also there's a really mad goat lady in the garden" bumps him up to a 6/10.
Orym: my serious thoughts about the space made for Chetney, FCG, and Imogen to step up aside I honestly think the semi-joking narrative of Orym going off in a huff and working out his feelings quite literally via the power of elaborate bodyweight calisthenics of the sort that grant you 20 Dex and 10 Str would be good for him. Allow yourself a little pettiness, Orym; it's good for the soul. 5/10 because I don't fucking know; we'll see next game.
Ariks Eshteross: I hope he's at peace and buried next to his love as requested; I still haven't gotten around to making those cookies actually and frankly I've had much more of an eye on the gunpowder tea shortbread. 0/10; I like to think he has found true rest.
Bertrand Bell: These motherfuckers have not visited the grave of their namesake at ALL. Traipsing around the Raven Queen's temple - literally everyone but Laudna and FCG has wandered over to that corner of the city - and NO ONE has taken a moment to pause and reflect. He died as he lived: everyone kind of setting him aside for more important matters except for followers of the Raven Queen. 8/10 because hopefully he was entertained by the raven show that got put on but also, come on man you couldn't stop by at all?
FRIDA: I have to imagine things in Vasselheim are wild and it's going to be missing FCG hours, but at least they're in great company! 5/10; they're a pretty even-keeled robot all things considered but the situation is pretty tense.
Otohan Thull: My sole regret about how great this episode is and the fact that we're dropping into the Fey Realm for a bit to have some much-needed time to regroup is that we are likely delaying their richly deserved demise. Anyway everyone's beloathed Palpatine knockoff is unfortunately super unflappable; another reason why they are boring as shit and why I very much want Bells Hells to make the bridge a little bit bloodier on the way up. 3/10.
Percival Friedrickstein von Musel Klossowski de Rolo III: Here's the thing. All things considered, his personal position is stressful, but not terrible. The ziggurat did not blow up; Gwen appears to either have not told him about her Delilah incident or did so in such a way that he didn't realize what was going on; he doesn't seem to have noticed the break-in into his parents' bedroom yet; Allura was reassuring re: Whitestone likely being safe (although...it's on a ley nexus so watch out!); and he got to deliver the line "ever since I met you, I knew you were destined for stupidity" which is actually how he specifically blows off steam. On the other hand, every single window in the castle has been destroyed, Allura had to leave, and I just checked and confirmed that Pike does not have the mending cantrip. Maybe one of the local clerics does? Maybe one of his kids does? Maybe Vilya or Ebenold does? Maybe Grog's in town and can be convinced that the role of the Grand Poobah etc etc is fixing windows? 6/10.

I remember you posting a Sir Kay art semi-recently (and I forgot to ask then, whoops) but do you have any Kay Thoughts or any sources you particularly like that are about him?
I have been looking at this ask every other day since it first appeared in my inbox trying to come up with something other than, 'he makes me sad,' but oh my god he makes me sad
I don't have any sources or texts on him (YET, I've been meaning to read Cei and the Arthurian Legend, Linda Gowans) beyond Caitlin R. Green's Concepts of Arthur and the usual collection of Arthurian texts, but there's such a weird sense of. displacement coming from him.
like. even with Percival, who has been removed from his Grail-Quest-Fisher-King origins, there are still elements of it haunting the larger story. but Cei is just. aughghghghh. what happened to his character is sad!! there isn't even a haunting of the original Cei left in the later Kay! I was watching La Légende du roi Arthur and Kay is literally so useless to the plot!! what is the point of having him there!!!! leave him in his grave if this is what he's going to be reduced to!!!
in a way it makes Arthur feel lonelier and less reachable as a character. there's that post going around of tiktok comments about siblings, something in there reminds me of what happened, in the narrative trend, to Arthur and Cei. I'm looking at Arthur and wondering if he knows to miss his brother or if he just feels the absence.

✏️"what are your current WIPs about?"
Thanks for playing with me, @kaylinalexanderbooks!
I have several WIPS right now, so this could be interesting.
Caraval- A Hannibal (NBC) sort of crossover/rewrite of the book Caraval by Stephanie Garber. It's also omega verse, with Will being an omega, Hannibal an alpha, and so on for the various characters who appear. Will must play a magical game that plays tricks on the mind and involves magic to find his sister (Abigail) over the course of five nights, searching for clues so he can find her before the other players and win. Hannibal, who initially brings them to the island where Master Legend hosts Caraval, teams up with him. As they play, Will realizes the game is far darker than it appears and that it is a race against the clock to find Abigail, because it is far more than a game.
Long list, so the rest are under the cut.
2. For Remembrance- A post-fall Murder Husbands story for my collection, Words Are Not The Only Way, centering on my chosen flower (rosemary) and its meaning. Won't say too much, but there is amnesia and rosemary plays a part in trying to help the amnesiac person recover their memories.
3. All Night or a Hundred Years- A Fantastic Beasts story from the POV of Percival Graves, who has been locked up in the dungeons of Nurmengard for a long time. Leta, rather than dying, is secreted away by Grindelwald in the dungeon as well, and she is helping Percival remember what it is like to be human and giving him something he hasn't had in a long time: Hope. They are getting to know each other and trying to figure out if they can escape, and how. Percival is close to giving up, but Leta won't take it. This one is on hiatus, however, because writer's block is a bitch.
4. Untangled- A Fantastic Beasts version of the Disney movie Tangled, with Newt as Rapunzel, Tina as Flynn, Grindelwald as Mother Gothel, and Theseus as Maximus, along with a bunch of the other FB crew members taking roles. Currently paused in favor of Caraval. Things are switched up in this, because Tina has the case of beasts instead of Newt. It's cheerful and fun and I sort of don't want to finish it because of that, so I'm being slow.
5. The Third Day- A Hannibal (NBC) rewrite of the HBO show The Third Day. Will is getting divorced from Molly and is grieving Abigail, who died under mysterious circumstances several years earlier. He meets Mischa in the woods, where is trying to hang herself, and takes her back to the place she lives, where he becomes trapped for three days and nights. Hannibal, Alana, Jack, Bella, Margot, Mason, and several other characters star as the residents trying to either run Will off the island or keep him there as he uncovers mysteries tied to himself and Abigail's death, as well as all the weirdness on the island.
7. Beloved- This is being scrapped and will be rewritten as a sequel to another story, His Shadow Suspended On Dust. Initially, it was a thirty-years post-fall story about Hannibal getting sick and Will taking care of him and living through his last days with him. Some of the original will remain, but it will be heavily rewritten, and there will be another story, called When the Snake Slithers By, between it and HSSOD.
8. The Lone City- A Pokemon anime rewrite of a favorite book of mine, called The Jewel by Amy Ewing. Starring Mairin, it centered on girls being sold off into surrogate slavery for the ruling class of the island, who became so inbred they can no longer safely carry their own children. Sort of a magical Handmaid's Tale, but with Pokemon twists. It was going to lead to Mairin uncovering the truth, falling in love with Alain, and escaping and so forth, but it's been on hiatus due to computer trouble, and I don't think I'm ever going to actually go back to it since it 's been more than a year.
9. Han+SPN- Temporary title, an attempted Hannibal/Supernatural crossover co-written by @ sarcasticsciencefictionwriter. Sam and Dean are driving through Maryland one night and Dean hits Will, who is a ravenstag, with Baby. Will is pregnant and fleeing hunters who are coming after him and Hannibal, who is half ravenstag, for being cannibals and want to kill their baby as well. The Winchesters learn that ravenstags only take what they need and chose harmful people as their victims (i.e, the rude), and end up teaming up with Will to save Hannibal from the hunters after Bobby, who saved Will when he was a fawn, tells them to. Currently paused because I didn't come up with much an outline and Sarc can't work with that. I'm playing with idea that Sam and Dean might have to deliver the baby.
I believe that is all my WIPS, unless you want to count the to-be-written finale to my collection, the Price of Godhood, where Will is Persephone and Hannibal is Hades, which will be about Will going to the world above on the first day of spring and saying goodbye to husband for six months.
Thanks so much for the ask! I've never done this before and I was so much fun! Feel free to hit me up again!

For this fest, I @oliverwilde105 am your mod, but I am sure throughout the fest there will be more who help me out, as those in the fandom are amazing and willing to do.
Please note that this fest contains adult content and is only open to those over the age of 18.
If you're wanting to join in the fest feel free to get involved by following, commenting, joining the discord server, and chatting with everyone!
Rare Pairs are special, and because they're rare sometimes it can feel a bit lonely writing for a ship that isn't so well-known, and the best way to let the special of the ships shine is to talk about them and get excited with people who love them just as much as you which is what I hope we can all come together to do in this Fest.
With love, Oli

epilogue 22
Tumblr media
Iris answered the phone.
“Iris Madsen.”
Her interpreter skipped the standard spiel that this was an interpreted line, the call was confidential, and to allow pauses for interpretation. Anyone with Iris’s direct line knew how to talk on the phone.
“This is Berkeley checking in.”
This was not Iris’s ten-thirty appointment. Agent Berkeley worked for the Foreign Office. She should have been communicating up her own chain of command. She shouldn’t have had Iris’s direct line, either, but she was a spy, so Iris wasn’t particularly surprised.
The clock ticked over to ten-thirty-one and the call-waiting light on Iris’s phone flashed.
“Why break protocol?” Iris asked.
There was a longer than normal pause while the interpreter informed Berkeley of the poor connection and asked her to repeat her answer.
“Yes, I’ll repeat. I’ve run into something unexpectedly high profile,” Berkeley said. “I thought you might have concerns about flow of information. Sorry, I’ll get to the point. The four missing bounties from the Maine conflict are here. Well, not here. They were here. They appear to be operating as agents of the Dauphin.”
“Berkeley, remind me of your assignment.”
“Without broadcasting the details, Ma’am, I’m calling from London.”
“Hold, please.”
Iris yanked open a filing cabinet under her desk. She did not have to thumb through to find what she was looking for. The file for the ongoing disaster which had started with a loan of ten thousand silver from Hemisphere Central to the Dead-Eyes was a very familiar one. She pulled out her notes about the Maine conflict.
Johannes had intended the circus to rendezvous in Canada. Iris had strongly hinted that he should get out of the country, and she understood that he had attempted to go through with it. He had forged passports. When Cody Allison dropped off the map, she’d had no reason to think he hadn’t stuck to the plan.
Her sources within the circus seemed to think so, too. There were people there who would still talk to her–another reason she had gone in person to Johannes’s funeral. Unfortunately, none of them had crossed paths with Cody Allison since the day of the Maine conflict. Iris’s intelligence had lost track of them as well.
“We thought we lost them to Canada,” Iris said. “Why are they in…” She paused. “Why are they working for the Dauphin?”
“Rest assured, Ma’am, that I have no idea what’s going on.”
“Give me everything, in order.”
Berkeley gave her a detailed report, minute by minute, of the brief glimpse she’d caught of Cody Allison, John Graves, Friday Wilmot, and Valerie Lecter in the Queen’s receiving hall. Apparently Cody Allison had attempted to cross the border into England from France without a passport, boasting a ridiculous letter from the Dauphin in lieu of paperwork. He’d been detained,  obviously. After that, Berkeley was missing a few details. Her position in the palace was intended to keep Iris abreast of major moves, not the comings and goings of individuals. She hadn’t been able to tail Allison without arousing suspicion.
All Berkeley knew was that the Palace had lost track of all four members of Allison’s cohort in the middle of the night, and had cause to believe they were working with a political faction to move the princes Gawain and Percival across the French border.
The Queen was new to her position, and the ascension had been a little sloppy, but given Hemisphere’s bloody origins under Constantine, a murdered regent wasn’t bad. Georgiana was Canada’s pet project, and Iris hadn’t given her much thought. Nothing in Berkeley’s explanation indicated why Allison would have taken action. Then again, past experience indicated Allison would cause an international incident at any opportunity.
“How good is that intelligence?” Iris asked.
Berkeley paused.
“We know that Cody Allison entered the country via France, but we don’t know if the letter from the Dauphin is legitimate. The Palace overheard the plan to move the princes via covert listening device. From my position, I wasn’t able to gather any more information. Should I make a move?”
“Don’t act. I need you where you are.” Iris needed an eye on Georgiana, especially since the Foreign Office didn’t have any agents in France. France wasn’t Hemisphere and didn’t have trans-Atlantic telephone lines. The agents posted there eventually stopped sending letters, so the Foreign Office eventually stopped sending agents. “Do you have anything else to report?”
“No, Ma’am.”
They ended the call. Iris stared at the flashing call-waiting light, and transferred her ten-thirty to her secretary’s phone.
*
Iris tramped down two flights of stairs to the Foreign Office. They shared a floor with the switchboard, which took up most of the available space. Iris passed the open door of the switchboard operators’ break room, where the conversation was so loud that she could feel the vibrations. She burst into the Foreign Office without knocking.
The Foreign Office was about the size of the break room next door. They didn’t need many desks, since their agents spent all their time in the field. There were only four office staff: an analyst, a typist, a stenographer, and the Head.
Iris stopped in the center of the room. The analyst and stenographer appeared to be engaged in an argument–light-hearted, by their facial expressions, which soon went to blank horror as they realized Iris’s presence. The typist was building reports out of the steno’s notes with single-minded focus. She was the last to notice Iris’s arrival.
The Head was bouncing a rubber ball off the side of the wall. Ben Cataldi was an old-timer from Constantine’s crew. He’d built the Foreign Office after he retired from gunslinging. He was the reason Iris could make a trans-Atlantic phone call.
“Iris,” he signed, dropping the rubber ball. It rolled under the typist’s desk. “Why are you here?”
Cataldi was a novice signer, still terrible after all these years, but Iris found his necessary bluntness enjoyable. On the wall behind his desk, there was a large map of the world littered with colored push pins. Each one tacked a scrap of paper with the name of an agent over their city of operation.
“I need you to move some people around,” Iris said, signing with exaggerated clarity. She pointed to the map with raised eyebrows.
The analyst got up from her desk. Iris remembered her now. Her name was Zara Darvish; she specialized in translation. She maneuvered through the cramped space on crutches, apparently in order to better see the assignment map.
“Move who? Why?” said Cataldi.
“Whoever you can spare. I need someone to pick up Cody Allison’s trail of destruction. The four of them just left England.”
Cataldi stared at her. He mirrored the sign for England back to her, and she fingerspelled it.
He painstakingly spelled back: C-O-D-Y A-L-L-I-S-O-N. E-N-G-L-A-N-D. As if he hoped her answer would change. Iris confirmed with a nod.
“Berkeley has them headed to France with two kidnapped princes.” Those who had understood–Cataldi and Darvish–winced. Nobody wanted to send someone into France. “You know how slippery Allison is. It could be a misdirect–find out and tail them.”
Cataldi, Darvish, the steno, and the typist stared at her. She raised her eyebrows, and the room burst into activity. She could feel the prickle of raised voices as Cataldi and Darvish pointed at different names on the map.
Iris left them to it. As she passed the switchboard operators’ break room, she paused. The smell of tobacco drew her in. The room had mostly cleared out, but there were two women chatting over coffee and cigarettes. They both jerked to attention as Iris entered the room. Iris waved hello with a smile, but if anything, the women were put even less at ease. Iris got down a mug from the cabinet. It was pink. She poured herself a cup of coffee.
Iris looked at the two women again. She thought about asking them for a cigarette, but decided not to. Instead, she took small sips of burnt coffee and stared past them at the cabinets on the opposite wall.
Iris considered very briefly asking the two women if they’d like their palms read, then snorted into her mug. They’d plotz. Even better, nobody would believe them. Spycraft was the same, really, as fortune telling–the same skills, applied differently–except for the scale. And the stakes.

For the ask game, Percival Graves (the real one) and 4, 7, 8, and 12! Or, if you can't do him (he was barely in there, I understand), Lally Hicks.
Thank you for the ask! And I'm so happy that you chose Graves; he really interests me. Let's see what we can do.
Question #4: To put him in any other media. . .a book (or at least some other bit of reading about him, the original Percival Graves). I always find myself wondering a) did he really exist? (I've heard that apparently Grindy literally just did a transfiguration spell or something and he was going around as Graves when Graves might not even have existed) but I want to believe that he did. If he did, who was he? What was he like? What's the story of his past? I want to know all this! A book could definitely do the trick, I think.
Question #7 Something the fandom does that I like. . .I haven't seen much of him in the fandom (since I stick around the Newtina tags really) but maybe I can answer instead here for Lally? Everyone sees her as a mood, and she really is! She's such a strong character with heart, and she's fearless. I guess this doesn't really answer as to what the fandom does, but I haven't really looked a lot into Graves or Lally here, in respect to this question.
Question #8 Something the fandom does that I despise. . .I can't answer for Graves here bc I'm not super familiar with him. So I'll go with Lally. Well, maybe it isn't so much what the fandom does as what we're given. It's true we only see her in SoD but I feel like she could have and should have had more in general. Like she's an awesome character, and adds to the story. I feel like she's kind of been brushed aside. Again, I've been hiding in the Newt x Tina corner of the fandom so perhaps I'll find more stuff about her (and Graves) in other places.
Question #12: A headcanon I have for this character (I'm going with Graves here bc)
I don't know if this is feasible or not, but I've wanted to believe that (going with the idea that he did exist) he would have been a man with a strong moral code, knowing what's right and what's wrong and not hesitating to get his hands dirty if that was necessary to be sure that there was justice. Like I kind of see him like with a vigilante kind of "I know what's right and I'll do what everyone else would be afraid to, to defend that." That's kind of my idea. And I think if Grindy had done something to the person of the original Percival Graves, Graves wouldn't have gone out without a fight.
Thank you so much for the ask! This was fun.
Ask me more questions, lovelies! <3

How many crows have you called?
Those days are behind me....
So name origin time I guess: Crow Caller is what I've had for like. 5 years or something now? Previously I had URLs in the old popular fake-official style or Canon (I've been Official CNN, Pokemon Moon, and Percival Graves among others). Crow Caller at this point is my total username tho.
It comes from a poem which comes from real events when I was like, 12? The poem being from when I was like 17.
Tumblr media
This isn't the full version or even first one but anyways, bam, in the middle of it I used the phrase 'I am the Crowcaller' and I thought it sounded really cool. I did not know for years that a crow caller is a real thing used in hunting.
the backstory of it is: when I was a kid one of my friends lived next to this very accessible, nice patch of woods and we played in it all the time (many warrior cats roleplays). I have the layout of that woods burned into my mind, it seemed huge but wasn't even that large, but seemed full of mystery (an abandoned tree house! A strange stone structure! Two giant out of place rocks!)
One day we were out in the woods and saw a deer and decided to follow the deer, trying to sneak. I'd heard about how many birds call out and act as alarms for other animals, and we became convinced the crows cawing above us were alerting the deer we were there and following. We then became quite sure there was a pattern to their sounds, and started cawwing back. This appeared to work, and we followed them pretty closely and went quite deep in the woods, past where we'd ever gone, chasing the deer and yelling at crows to tell them 'no danger here just normal crows'!
later we got home and friend's mom was very concerned because it'd been like 3 hours lol
it was such a great specific strong memory that has always been with me, hence writing a few poems about it that wound up giving me my namesake
