the funny thing about having read the spider punk comics is going through the atsv tag noticing people saying things about hobie and then being like "it's canon from the comics!!" to justify things they literally just made up. girl i did the reading and i don't know how to tell you this but nothing you just said is true... you fell for the edited panels from twitter didn't you.

no its not that, most of the people who actually believe sonic is named sonny probably dont even know who uncle chuck is since a lot of them dont know much about sonic lmao

basically theres an old sonic series bible from the 90s by sega of america who wanted to give sonic a backstory while also ignoring what sega of japan wanted to do with sonic. its all a bunch of obviously non canon stuff that was never referenced in the games at all like sonic originally being a normal hedgehog named sonny who lived in nebraska and had 5 sisters. i dont feel like getting into everything but if you wanna read about it theres a page on the sonic wiki that summarizes it i think. but all of these ideas were abandoned decades ago and aren't canon

a few years ago some youtuber made a video going over the stuff that was in the sonic bible and it got a couple million views which caused a bunch of people who know nothing about sonic to just. accept everything in the sonic bible as canon information. so now theres a bunch of people in the notes of my post trying to tell me that sonics birth name is canonically sonny and its making me become the joker

i don't involve myself in the "how dare scorsese say that comic book movies aren't high cinema" because he's just unambiguously right (and i say that as someone who enjoys comics and liked watching the batman) but the funniest part of all the people trying desperately to refute him with "chris nolan directed batman movies" is that a) he was allowed to keep his own style and distinction which is a Big sticking point in the discussion of how fucking bland mcu stuff looks right now and b) nolan's batman movies are good as movies, but they absolutely fucking suck as batman movies specifically so the whole point is kinda moot anyway

my problem with parse isn't the fact that he's a fun blorbo to project onto and build on or the fact that he's cast as an antagonist, nor is it that people focus on him disproportionately to how much he appears in the comic nor is it the fact that we don't get closure for his storyline really. no my problem with him is the canonisation of fanon and how, especially in the hiatuses, everyone sort of bounced off of each other and the parse fandom became an echo chamber so extreme that ngozi received death threats. not for what she had put in the comic, but for what she hadn't, a conglomerate of a character that wasn't really real, but many fans had started to believe was (an early holster's knee effect if you will).

i love parse, and especially fanon parse, but i am once again wishing that people had remembered that he's just that. fanon.
