My (Painstakingly Plot-Spoiler Free) Thoughts on Nightbringer So Far:
Hello. I have played up through Lesson 7 out of 10. Here are my thoughts:
1. The rhythm game is difficult at first if you don't play the genre all the time, but even someone with a disability like myself can pick them up with some trial and error. Admittedly, I have found that knowing the songs inside and out really helps in that regard. Otherwise I flounder. All OM tracks (without dance beat) are on Spotify.
2. The game is like.... fun. Actually, legitimately fun. It probably helps that electronic j-pop is my jam, but I often find that even if my cards are strong enough to skip a stage, depending on the song, I really don't want to. The rhythm sections feel satisfying. Sometimes challenging, but not cheap (when it doesn't bug out). Which reminds me...
3. JANK. Oh good lord so much jank! The faces on 3d models are the stuff of nightmares. I honestly can't bring myself to look at them. Even if it's the only thing on screen, I glue my eyes to the text. Some things are a little buggy still, hits on the rhythm sectiond don't always register and I think the intimacy system is broke on mine. Mammon has had intimacy 5 then 6 then 5 then 6 then..... You get the idea. It resolves itself overtime, but it's ridiculous. Fix it.
4. Some small quality of life improvements all around. You no longer have to look at each new card individually to get stupid notification to go away, the phone is all one bundle now so you can check for calls and texts in the same place, you can actually SEE your own damn inventory through the gear menu button (finally), that kind of thing.
5. There's both good stuff and bad stuff on the grind front... I think the biggest double edge sword will be the new Skill Up cards. In theory, good! Because if a card goes out of availability you can still level up its skill with the right resources. Bad, in that it adds yet another currency item you need to farm and now, get this, parts of the Devil Tree are locked behind a certain skill level requirement. It... kinda bites pretty hard.
6. Without getting into spoiler territory, I love the story so far. It feels like a good balance between character drama and a decent amount of mystery in-between. Not to any payoffs yet, but very happy so far. I squint if the devs really believe that a newcomer is going to be able to follow along without any confusion, but I digress.
I will give a deeper breakdown of my impression of story and new! (old) characters in another post which will be spoiler marked to high heaven. Right now, I'm just playing as far as I can before I really gotta start grinding up levels and cards (read as: hit a brick wall). But look y'all!

President Heo is a total moran.😑 I do not understand how he even became President in the first place. Seriously! He's like a damn child trying to act like a grown-up and failing spectacularly.
Minister Cha is so ruthless right?! We talk about Judge Kang being it but damn, she is on the same damn level, maybe even worse because she let the floggings happen to her son.
Jin-joo is just adorable! A ray of sunshine, she's just fun to watch.
Soo-hyun is so badarse! The way she entered that room and then fought those men with her bat? stick? whatever they call that in English. She is badarse!!!
And I swear I thought Judge Kang was actually doing that 'surgery'! I mean, I wouldn't put it past him.... I was relieved when it turned out to be a damn dream 🤣
Sun-ah is so damn creepy! She was already uneasy to see in the very beginning but now, with the kidnapping and the creepy house and stuff.... NO, we do not support kidnapping people and then kissing them no matter how pretty they are!
Every episode is such a wild ride! 😮😮😮
Yeah, it's almost a comfort when the other rich people make it clear that they made sure he got elected? Because, like, that implies a rigged election of some sort? Or at least very targeted propaganda. Which gives back SOME faith in humanity because, all of a sudden, they didn't pick him because they thought he was the best candidate, but rather because they were most likely manipulated into doing so. Who would want that disaster of a man for president? x'D
Real talk, I LOVE Minister Cha. As a character, obviously, not a person. Because while it's clear that she's cold and ruthless, she also has moments of vulnerability where she seems almost conflicted about her actions. It shows she might not be entirely PROUD of everything she's done, but she does it because she thinks she has to. She's honestly one of the most human antagonists they have in the drama. And while I don't exactly sympathise with her (since she does a lot of bad things) I can see the person underneath. And, just maybe, she's not all bad, but rather someone who started making bad decisions and then just never stopped. Unlike President Heo, who almost feels like a caricature in comparison.
Jin Joo is my queen and I love her.
Her baton? xD But yes, Soo Hyun is very cool! And I do like the moments they give her to BE cool.
Honestly, I also wouldn't put it past Yo Han to insist on personally castrating a man he felt deserved it. But when he brought out the scissors and straddled the dude I was convinced it couldn't be real. Mainly because it was such a shift in tone and storytelling that it would have been weird if it hadn't been a dream.
No, we do not support kidnapping or sexual assault (which is the proper term for what she did) and she is indeed creepy as hell. And, much like Minister Cha, a very interesting character in general. In many ways, she's the female equivalent of Yo Han (very simplified — it's obviously a lot more complicated than that) but I like that they also have their differences. And I really like the dynamic she has with Yo Han — it's very interesting.
They are! A lot happens in every episode and there's honestly very little time wasted on fillers or pointless detours, which is something I appreciate. It made the drama very easy to watch, at least for me.

Honestly the cliche advice is true. If you fill your life w things you’re passionate about, if you challenge yourself every day, if you give your own opinion of yourself more weight than you do other people’s opinions of you, you will actually thrive. Like no one can tell u anything

I actually enjoy celebs being here. You only thrive if you don't try.
Madonna is on here. Her posts get like, 60 notes. Is she trying to make it anything more than a feed/extension of her Insta, though? Nah. She's just here. You want to see a Madonna thing? You can find it.
Neil shares thoughts and answers questions when the whim takes him, billions-deep ask box.
Ryan Reynolds will thrive if he's just...that guy reblogging gifsets of himself like "haha you guys are creative".
Not to be cringe on main but you just have to be...not a glossy product of yourself, to maintain some kind of comfortable nook and easy back-and-forth with the userbase. When it works for the people it works for, it's quite enjoyable for everyone involved.
Like we've all known for years Hozier is SOMEWHERE around here, just reblogging pictures of moss. You go, you moss-collecting cryptid man.

I was shoveling my sidewalk during my lunch break, wearing an ankle-length wool coat, equally long black striped dress with a leather cincher belt, gloves, and combat heels--over all looking like I just finished a long shift at the foul incantations factory-- and these two bright eyed homeschool kids scampered up and offered to help me shovel. I was, frankly, a little shocked at their daring (the last small strange child that I passed on the sidewalk while wearing that coat asked me if I was a vampire).
But then they informed me that we'd actually meet before. I flagged them down at the end of Halloween trick or treating and emptied the entire remainder of my candy into their bags, and apparently bought goodwill for life by doing so.
So I thanked them and hired them to shovel my walk during this weekend's snowfall, because I'll be mostly gone. The kids are all right.

The sun and the sea ☀️🌊
Tumblr media
Anyone else wanna join me in thinking about the fact that they pulled opposite motifs ?!?? The horrors of the deep sea in contemporary/modernish time and the joy and brightness of a punk future with the power of the sun. This is so crazy to me. How do they do it !?
Anyways one reblog 1 Stamp for Gem (and pearl can avoid some uh. Well you know, fraud charges)

Shoutout to the radish guy in Spirited Away for deciding to go all the way up to the top floor just to make sure Chihiro was safe when presumably he had other shit to do and could just have easily decided this little girl's safety was Not His Problem.
