#SONGBIRD FOR MAC MAC#
What's the difference between an art print and handmade art? Art prints are just what they sound like - printed copies of one original piece of art.
#SONGBIRD FOR MAC MAC#
You’d have to ask him. These Fleetwood Mac song lyrics are perfect for an anniversary, wedding, housewarming or any type of gift! Don't see the exact lyrics you want? Message me for a custom order!Ĭhoose between a high-quality inkjet art print on watercolor paper with ink that lasts a lifetime OR a handmade piece of art made to order. “He’s got health issues, so I don’t know if he would be up for it. “I don’t think John’s up for another tour,” she says. Anyway, I wouldn’t want to do that.”Īccording to McVie, bassist John McVie is in a similar predicament. “You have to stand up to play the piano and the Hammond Organ is beneath that, so it’s a bit difficult to think about sitting down and doing it. “I couldn’t sit at the rig I play,” she says. In theory, McVie could sit at the keyboard to make it easier for her to get through a show, but she says that wouldn’t work in practice. What’s that saying? The mind is willing, but the flesh is weak.” I stand up to play the piano, so I don’t know if I could actually physically do it. I’ve got a chronic back problem which debilitates me. “I don’t feel physically up for it,” she says. Mick Fleetwood has been open about his hopes to see the Rumours-lineup come back together for a grand farewell tour, but McVie is highly dubious. We might get back together, but I just couldnt say for sure.” But since the band broke up, I’ve not been speaking to her at all.”ĭoes she mean to say that Fleetwood Mac no longer exists? “Well, not as we know it,” McVie says. We always sat next to each other on the plane and we got on really well. “When we were on the last tour, we did a lot. “I don’t communicate with Stevie very much either,” she says. “We have a great time with them, but we’ve kind of broke up now, so I hardly ever see them.” It was their first outing since their bitter split with Buckingham, when he was replaced by Crowded House frontman Neil Finn and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell. It just made me uneasy.”įor the new collection, McVie “went for my favorite songs that weren’t on Fleetwood Mac records,” working with producer Glyn Johns and redoing the tracks with extra instrumentation.įleetwood Mac have been completely inactive since the conclusion of their 2018/19 world tour. I also felt a little ill at ease doing a solo tour for that material. “I’ve never felt like I was a solo artist,” McVie tells Rolling Stone from her London home. Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham maintained active solo careers during their time in Fleetwood Mac, but McVie says she never really had that desire.
#SONGBIRD FOR MAC PLUS#
It’s a mixture of songs from her two solo albums plus a handful of unreleased songs, including “All You Gotta Do,” a duet with George Hawkins originally cut for In the Meantime. This solo material is largely unknown to the general public - especially in America - but she hopes to change that on June 24 with the release of Songbird (A Solo Collection).
#SONGBIRD FOR MAC PROFESSIONAL#
Christine McVie has spent the vast majority of her professional career in Fleetwood Mac, but she did take a brief break in 1984 to record Christine McVie and followed it up 20 years later with In the Meantime.

🎪 Wed 22 July ♾
Anniversary madness!! Crazy times!! Oh wait, uhhhhh, not really lol... Let's see, the One Direction accounts posted, the tweet instantly shooting above a million notes to break a record and the instagram account gaining over a million followers. Always the most! Good thing they had plenty of time to take that into account with their promised website! Although Sony still don't own the actual OneDirection dot com url and didn't bother to correct that even for this occasion they did put up a site, I guess? Is it really new? Anyway just as predicted, it crashed instantly, lmao, and then when loaded it appeared to be the same old site but if you dig into the "streaming partners" content you can eventually find some unseen content in the form of vertical videos on Spotify, but not like new vertical videos for each song just like a tiny few second clip for each song. If, on the other hand, you follow the merch links you end up on ETSY looking at fan merch LMAOOOOO it's so janky WHY ARE THEY LIKE THIS. Oh but wait THERE IS MORE there's... a playlist of One Direction songs. Huhhhhh okay but also unreleased songs...? No just ones that weren't on Spotify before, like for example three versions of You and I, including the "You and I duet version" which is some kind of y/n karaoke thing?! OKAY I guess???? In short: not only is the website content as underwhelming as predicted tbh it doesn't even live up to the jokes about it being not much! BUT as we saw yesterday one picture can truly yield a thousand clues so it may not be much but those Spotify pics are already being combed through and contextualized with interesting results, including that the single 'unseen' photo had, in fact, been seen.
Rolling Stone published an article talking to early 1D songwriters (but not the band.) Savan Kotecha has apparently finally realized he was on the wrong side of history and ignores his (major) role in trying to shut Louis up and talking shit about him back in the day to now praise the way Louis successfully prevailed over his, Savan's, best efforts to shut him down, going on to preside over the renowned 1D sound of their later years. In "hindsight, that was the right thing to do," he admits. MHMM. Julian Bulian on the other hand comes through with the acknowledgement that "a lot of the songs were double- like somebody might be singing about their girlfriend, but there was another meaning that applied to the group as well."
A twitter user claimed that a radio announcer said the Infinity video would drop at midnight EST tonight; that turned out to be incorrect but "unseen tour moments" are going live at midnight from iHeartRadio.
Meanwhile, a current picture of Harry in Italy (unmasked) in a restaurant kitchen pressed in close to the entire restaurant staff (mostly unmasked) for a photo was posted, and Niall posted about sports.
But let's be real, tomorrow's the big day we're looking at. It's the actual anniversary, plus if the theory that what the label is up to (so far: inexplicably squandering the opportunity to make giant piles of money off merch, and sucking Spotify's dick) and what the band themselves might get up are separate is correct we could still have some exciting content in store... right? LOL. So far that we know of we have Liam on the Capital FM breakfast show, Niall on the FM104 (Dublin) breakfast show, Niall and Liam both on another Irish breakfast show, and Liam on Radio One later. If you're noticing a trend here, well... yes. Louis and Harry, always the elephant in the room! Very on brand.

Frozen the musical tour thoughts -- my usual brain dump below (lots of details with some Frozen 2 spoilers):
Tumblr media
List of musical numbers from the playbill (which incidentally is now branding the show as “The Hit Broadway Musical” rather than just “The Broadway Musical”):
Tumblr media
The pre-show projection is a view of Arendelle with the mountains towering above it, the northern lights, and the show title.
“Vuelie”: It sounded like a slightly different arrangement than I remember, or at least different than the one on the cast recording.  At first I thought it was because the sound at the Pantages is not great (it wasn’t from where I was sitting, all of the group numbers sounded mushy) but it did seem like there were changes.
“Let the Sun Shine On”: Can’t remember if there was anything new/different here.  The little kids behind me giggled every time butts were mentioned, starting here and throughout the rest of the show.
“A Little Bit of You”: As I recall Young Anna had a doll that looked like Elsa. The contrast between Anna’s and Elsa’s personalities here was pronounced; it was as if Young Anna was dialed up just a bit.  When she hugged their toy Olaf it was just a little too enthusiastic and Olaf’s head fell into Young Elsa’s lap. (Wasn’t an issue, just funny.)
“Hidden Folk” : Can’t spell “Pabbie” without “ab” -- he had plenty to spare.
“Do you Want to Build a Snowman”: Here come potential Frozen 2 spoilers: 1) I believe before going on their trip, Agnarr says something to the effect of they’re going to find help or answers for Elsa and for their people (was that in there before? can’t recall), and 2) the choreography in the shipwreck scene has changed.  Last time I clearly remember them solemnly standing facing the audience next to each other, then the ensemble lifts them straight up and backwards from the standing position as they look toward and reach for each other looking sorrowful & stricken.  This time they are surrounded by the ensemble, who act as the water moving them around and trying to pull them apart as they actively reach for each other and try to embrace.
Both adult Anna and Elsa received entrance applause.  At the end when Elsa sings her line, snow falls.
“For the First Time in Forever”: Nothing particularly different that I remember.  I listened to the movie version for maybe the first time in two years not long ago, and frankly I like the stage version a lot better.  It has the feeling of “okay intro’s over, now our story really gets going” (similar to “At The End of The Day” in Les Misérables). This was the first opportunity the crowd had to applaud properly, and they really went for it.  There were two big waves of applause and cheers before the show went on, which probably would have kept going had they not started up the music.
Back to Anna seeming a little dialed-up: Caroline Innerbichler’s Anna was just a little weirder and more awkward than I expected (e.g. not modulating her voice in certain ways) particularly in the scene where she meets Hans. It was interesting to me because it both seemed consistent with Young Anna and also consistent with someone not being around enough people to learn social skills. In previous viewings (and the movie) it seemed like Anna was awkward in a way that was more funny and winsome rather than potentially off-putting.
“Hans of the Southern Isles”:  In the character’s intro section I’d say Austin Colby as Hans is not as dorky as John Riddle’s version, but also not as smooth.
“Queen Anointed”: Slight staging change.  This part all happens front and center instead of in an apse toward the back of the stage (too bad, because that was one of my favorite visuals).  I suspect it would have been hard to see from the far sides if staged as it was on Broadway, but I have no idea if that was the reason for it.
“Dangerous to Dream” and “Love is an Open Door”: Pretty similar to Broadway.
Elsa freezing everything: the freezing effect only covered the show proscenium and stage, didn’t go outside of it.  The frozen bridge used for “What Do You Know About Love” comes onstage from the wings as part of Elsa’s running away moment.
“Reindeer(s) are Better Than People”: Kristoff enters for this just as Elsa runs off, so that bridge is there through the entire scene where Anna and Kristoff meet.
“What Do You Know About Love”: I thought the bridge setup was cleverly updated.  On Broadway the dangerous part was meant to be falling through the slats of this rickety bridge, where in the tour version the danger was because the bridge was steeply inclined and meant to be covered with ice, and it looked like there were some mechanisms in place so that the actors could simulate a semi-controlled slide.  (As someone who has slid down an icy hill out of control but has never fallen through unstable flooring, it seemed pretty relatable.)
“In Summer”: Very similar to Broadway. Olaf always gets a good response.
"Hans of the Southern Isles (Reprise)”: Nothing new that I remember.
"Let It Go”: There’s a four-step platform that slides onstage so that Elsa can stand on it for the dress reveal, and it looks pretty good.  Not sure the timing was exactly right yet. Caroline Bowman sounded great. However, two people behind me, not even in the same group, started singing along; one was a little kid (who actually had decent pitch) and one was a person who really should have been old enough to know better.  It was very distracting; please don’t do this.
Intermission projection: Same view of Arendelle as before (no title), but now covered with snow with more coming down, though no consistent accumulation.  Particularly liked the image of the mountain since that’s the sort of landscape scenery that appeals to me.
“Hygge”: No significant audience interaction for Oaken, he just peeks out from behind his shop on stage to start the scene.  Kristoff is still a good killjoy, which I like.
“I Can’t Lose You”: Much as described in the LA Times article.  Cannot remember the melody at all, but maybe if I hear it again it’ll start to stick.  It did not seem as vocally/musically indicative of Elsa’s emotional state as the “First Time In Forever” reprise, but in the background there is clearly more (projected) snow flying around, plus there are lighting changes and clouds of dry ice rolling onto the stage until the two are pretty well surrounded. At the end Anna abruptly goes to hug Elsa, but Elsa can’t bring herself to touch Anna and keeps her arms out and away.  I’m not sure if I liked it better than the original scene, but they sounded great together and I am glad these two characters got a proper duet, which clearly emphasized that they are the center of the story.
“Fixer Upper”: No wedding pronouncement at the end, it just plays that familiar bit from the wedding march and the two look at each other.
“Kristoff Lullaby”: Similar to before.
“Monster”: The ice spikes looked kind of silly sliding on from the wings, but once they were in place it looked fine and they were more abstractly threatening than the moving conical ones on Broadway.  If anything it seemed to put the emphasis far more on Elsa for this song, which is fine.
The whole part with Hans’s duplicity went by rather quickly. I’m disappointed that they cut “True Love,” which was one of my favorites of the new songs.  Basically Anna briefly sees Young Anna and Young Elsa run in, around her, and then out, and then Olaf pops in. There is still some instrumental music with the “True Love” theme as it transitions into the “Colder by the Minute” scene. (ETA 12/14: when Young Anna and Young Elsa run in, an instrumental version of the “I Can’t Lose You” theme plays.)
"Colder by the Minute”: Seems pretty similar.
"Finale”: Elsa seemed quite shocked at Anna socking Hans; was even funnier when I remembered the actors playing Elsa and Hans are married.  At one point the whole cast gathers into a wedge and walk forward singing; while they do this, Elsa conjures some snow over puppet Olaf’s head.  Nice little detail.
Audience observations: Opening night, but I rarely recognize famous people and had a cheaper seat so I have no idea who was there. Saw several small children dressed as characters; guessing the Elsa to Anna ratio was about 3 to 1. Also saw two adult men looking pretty sharp in dark blue winter-themed dress suits (one covered in Christmas trees, one I think might have been snowflakes?).
General thoughts: Was worried that I might be too accustomed to the voices of Caissie Levy and Patti Murin as the characters, but that was not an issue.  Caroline Bowman and Caroline Innerbichler sounded really good, and I liked Caroline Innerbichler’s portrayal of Anna in particular.

round up // MAY 20
Tumblr media
When the going gets rough, I find I keep coming back to two kinds of movies: Romantic comedies and action adventures. For whatever reason, those are my comfort food, even if I’m watching someone get their heart broken or fight for their lives.
Hopefully you’re finding small ways to make your days brighter with books, movies, music, and shows that either help you fight or forget some of the darkness around us for a time. These were a few that made my month brighter, including a number of rom coms and action flicks.
May Crowd-Pleasers
Tumblr media
SNL at Home
I almost cried for joy when I learned SNL would finish out its season even though it wouldn’t be in Studio 8H—it felt like a glimmer of a lot of joys we’ve lost in the last few months. While the At Home episodes have an odd rhythm compared to the usual broadcast (that live audience makes a difference, especially during “Weekend Update”), I still laughed every week. A few highlights:
“Bailey at the Movies”
“Dreams”
“Grocery Store”
“MasterClass Quarantine Edition” + “Another MasterClass Qurantine Edition”
“RBG Workout”
Watch those skits, then enjoy an infographic-heavy review of the season from Vulture.
Tumblr media
Extraction (2020)
Is this a groundbreaking action movie? Heck no, but watching Chris Hemsworth fight to save a kid with a supporting appearance from David Harbour made for a great Sunday evening. Crowd: 8/10 // Critic: 6/10
Tumblr media
The Wedding Singer (1998)
Somehow I’ve never gotten around to this rom com, perhaps because Adam Sandler’s sense of humor usually isn’t my cup of tea. But here he replaces the gross out jokes with a sweet chemistry with Drew Barrymore. I liked it so much I gave 50 First Dates a shot, but, uh, I only recommend movies I finish. Crowd: 9/10 // Critic: 6.5/10
Tumblr media
Baby Boom (1987)
Another not-innovative genre entry, but a satisfying one. Crowd: 8/10 // Critic: 7/10
Tumblr media
Action Movies set in 1700s America: The Last of the Mohicans (1992) + The Patriot (2000)
Sometimes I don’t want a complicated villain—sometimes I just want Jason Isaacs (aka Lucius Malfoy) to be so evil I want Mel Gibson to take him down with a tomahawk. The Last of the Mohicans: Crowd - 8/10 // Critic: 8.5/10 // The Patriot - Crowd: 9/10 // Critic: 8.5/10
Tumblr media
Taylor Swift City of Lover concert (2020)
I’ve seen Ms. Swift live twice and have loved the stadium tour spectacle. But an intimate show heavy on acoustic performance reminds me how well her songwriting holds up no matter the production
Tumblr media
Prop Culture (2020)
I know, I know: Disney+ original series are well executed, long-form advertising. But can you find better-executed advertising than Jason Schwartzman chatting about the Mary Poppins snow globe at a piano with Richard Sherman, the character he played in Saving Mr. Banks? These staged treasure hunts for Disney movie props may be a bit self-important, but they’re also a dose of nostalgia and lessons about the technical side of filmmaking.
Tumblr media
This Drake Bell TikTok
If you get this, you get this.
Tumblr media
Silverado (1985)
My weird New Year’s resolution? To watch Westerns, a genre I’ve basically skipped until now. Silverado feels like a throwback to classic Westerns with a modern sensibility and more laughs. Plus, baby Kevin Costner and Jeff Goldblum in a fur coat! Crowd: 8/10 // Critic: 7.5/10
Tumblr media
Chromatica by Lada Gaga (2020)
Turns out I’m not just a fan of the A Star Is Born/duets with Tony Bennet/Joanne Lady Gaga. I’ve always been cooler on her electronic-dance-club Top 40 hits than her recent guitar-and-vocal stylings, but I can’t stop listening to album-long jam sesh. It’s old Gaga meets 2020 beats meets Depeche Mode/Flock of Seagulls/Madonna/New Order of the ‘80s.
Tumblr media
The Heat (2013)
Two of my favorite funny ladies teaming up was—not surprisingly—a win. No one delivers a kooky insult like Melissa McCarthy. Crowd: 8.5/10 // Critic: 7/10
May Critic Picks
Tumblr media
Hail, Caesar! (2016)
Josh Brolin, George Clooney, Ralph Fiennes, Scarlett Johansson, Tilda Swinton, Channing Tatum, and more try to keep Hollywood and their careers afloat despite a bizarre series of kidnappings, line flubs, and tap dances. Of course the Coen Brothers have a dry, wacky take on the Hollywood studio era. Crowd: 8.5/10 // Critic: 9/10
Tumblr media
Jane Eyre (2006)
Confession: I have not read Jane Eyre. But my mom did, and since she enjoyed the book so much, I figured a happy medium would be to watch this BBC miniseries with her commentary about what they changed from the Brontë classic.
Tumblr media
Daisy Jones & the Six (2019)
The highest compliment I can give a book is staying up way too late to finish it, which is what I did with this buzzy Taylor Jenkins Reid book. It’s a barely-fictional oral history of sex, drugs, and rock ‘n’ roll in the ‘70s, and somehow it’s not crass or gratuitous about any of them. Most impressive is that Jenkins Reid keeps her characters well-defined even though it’s not written in a traditional novel format. My favorite parts of this story are the deep dive into the creative process and the exploration of how we remember the past. Here’s hoping the Sam Claflin/Riley Keough-led, Reese Witherspoon-produced, (500) Days of Summer team-written Amazon series can do this book justice—I need this soundtrack!
Tumblr media
The Plot Thickens podcast (2020)
A Turner Classic Movies podcast hosted by Ben Mankiewicz about film history is a specific—and predictable—Venn diagram of my interests.
Tumblr media
Alfred Hitchcock Double Feature: Psycho (1960) + The Birds (1963)
The story about Psycho goes that my grandmother ran out of the movie theatre screaming during the shower scene. Now that I’ve finally watched it, I know why. This horror drama is still terrifying today even if you know what’s going to happen. Crowd: 9/10 // Critic: 10/10
The story about The Birds goes that my mother was terrified as a little girl after walking into a room where it was on TV, and now she still won’t watch it. The Oscar-winning visual effects have aged so much I didn’t find it scary, but I was still sucked in by the eerie plot. That said, I did have a frightening dream last night involving Tippi Hedren, so it may be more effective than I realized. Give me just a sec while I schedule some Hitchcock-focused family therapy. Crowd: 8.5/10 // Critic: 9/10
Tumblr media
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969)
Spend two hours with the two nicest bank robbers you’ll ever meet! A winsome Paul Newman and a laconic Robert Redford make their escape on the scenic trails of the Southwest, and gosh darn it, if they aren’t just a barrel of fun. I enjoyed this Western so much I recommended it in a piece I wrote for Round Trip, too. Crowd: 8.5/10 // Critic: 9/10
Tumblr media
Katharine Hepburn Double Feature: Alice Adams (1935) + Woman of the Year (1942)
Saying you love Katharine Hepburn is like saying you love sunshine and flowers—of course you do! In Alice Adams, she’s an optimistic Cinderella with a down-on-their-luck family who falls for a high class fella (Fred MacMurray). In Woman of the Year, she’s a high-brow journalist who falls for sports columnist Spencer Tracy in their first of nine films together. She earned Oscar nominations for both, but I dare you not to fall in love with her after watching just one. Alice Adams - Crowd: 7.5/10 // Critic: 8/10 // Woman of the Year - Crowd: 8/10 // Critic: 8.5/10
Also in May…
When you’re not allowed to travel, you get creative! For Round Trip this month, I recommended 13 movies about travel that will make you feel like you took the vacation COVID-19 made you cancel (including Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid). And if that’s not enough, why don’t you recreate your trip? I turned my apartment into Paris, and here’s why you might want to do the same.
Kyla and I didn’t go far back in time for most of our Gilmore Girls pop culture references on SO IT’S A SHOW? We covered three movies (or two, depending on how you see it) from the 2000s with connections to this year’s Oscars, 8 Mile and then Kill Bill. We also looked into the famous architect Stanford White and a movie he was featured in, 1981’s Ragtime, which had more connections to today’s culture than we expected.
I made another attempt at Jim Jarmusch for ZekeFilm with Broken Flowers. I still don’t get Jim Jarmusch.
My movie count in quarantine is up to 156. You can see them all on Letterboxd.

Estelle also speaks to Garnet and Steven's special bond, filming the video for "Stronger Than You," and singing "Here Comes A Thought" as a duet with AJ Michalka! Plus, Estelle answers your questions, including her gem weapon of choice, her favorite moment in the show so far, and where Ruby and Sapphire might go on their honeymoon.

This is bit long, as always so I’ll do my bullet points of interest, with longer descriptions after the jump.
Highlights:
Estelle's leap into voice acting was coincidentally at a time when she was actively looking to try a cartoon role and Rebecca Sugar was approaching her to audition for one of her characters.
Estelle resonates with Garnet's role as a role model and "big sister/mother."
Estelle also auditioned for Amethyst, but thinks that role would have been a poor match for her for several reasons.
Sometimes she gets compliments on her Steven Universe voice work at completely unrelated events.
Voice acting isn't as rigid as she initially expected--there's room for creativity.
She would love to get Rebecca to do an album, help her with it, or even tour together. She likes Rebecca's simple, straightforward songwriting technique.
Tumblr media
Estelle gave Rebecca musical influence suggestions for writing "Stronger Than You" and "Here Comes a Thought."
The day she recorded the video for "Stronger Than You" in association with Comic Con was very hot, and she wore a black cape after saying she hadn't wanted to wear anything that resembled Garnet cosplay because it seemed silly to her for her to cosplay the character she plays.
Recording "Here Comes a Thought" with AJ Michalka was easy and chill. They did it in the studio together.
Estelle's "favorite Garnet moment" might be when Garnet told Greg to water her cat while she was in space.
Estelle is an ally to the LGBT community, and while she is glad Ruby and Sapphire's wedding made people so happy, she's ready for it to move past the point where such things are noteworthy. She just wants it to be standard.
She participated with the Black Women Animate project and was super inspired to see so many women of color being encouraged to create in this context.
She agrees that the Dove Self-Esteem Project is a great fit with the messages of the show.
Estelle loudly avoided answering questions about what fans should get excited for in the upcoming “Diamond Days” episodes.
Estelle's just released an album, and her future will involve working on her record label and its artists, maybe recording a Christmas album, and doing more TV acting.
In answering fan questions, Estelle thinks she would like bubbling as a power, thinks Ruby and Sapphire would honeymoon in Iceland, loves making funny noises in the booth but felt recording Garnet unfusing was difficult, really likes "Pool Hopping" as a recent episode, loves recording with Deedee Magno Hall because she's so funny acting out her lines, thinks recording for a video game is more rigid than for the cartoon, and thinks it would be funny to have an impossible episode about Garnet dealing with a bunch of smaller Garnet Fusion children who she would have to advise on growing up.
The detailed summary is below!
[Archive of Steven Universe Podcast Summaries]
McKenzie introduces Estelle and first asks her to talk about why she got into voice acting. Estelle says she was just told by lots of people that she had such a distinct voice and that she should try it. She wanted to look into cartoons, and asked her team if they could get her on "like The Incredibles or something." Meanwhile, Rebecca Sugar was looking for people to voice her characters on her pilot, and since she was an Estelle fan, she reached out. It all worked together to put Estelle in the right spot to voice Garnet. She really just wanted her young relatives to hear her voice on cartoons. Estelle says her five-year-old niece's first major interaction with her besides Internet conferencing was getting to hear her on Steven Universe, and she knows it's her auntie.
Next, McKenzie asks what really resonated with Estelle about the show, and she said the pitch drew Garnet up as a big sister/mother type, which she related to because she's from a big family and she's the oldest girl.
Tumblr media
She auditioned for the role and got it, but apparently also auditioned for Amethyst, which she knows now would not have worked for her personally or vocally. As for voice acting itself, it's about what she expected except she did learn to make some new noises that she hadn't really known she could make before.
When McKenzie asks Estelle to discuss how much of Garnet she relates to personally, she says the story is now letting Garnet be more vulnerable. She feels like she's a pretty chill and calm person like Garnet usually is, and as a believer in star signs, Estelle's Aquarius tendencies sometimes come out like that. (She's a Capricorn with an Aquarius moon, Cancer rising.) McKenzie liked that Garnet was willing to open up to Steven and be real with him, and Estelle mentions liking that attempt to share her future vision with him to teach him a lesson about determining one's own future.
Tumblr media
McKenzie asks her to talk about whether any of her friends have any perspectives on her work as Garnet, and she says she sometimes gets people mentioning it to her in unexpected places, like when she's out late or doing something completely unrelated to animation--she'll randomly get a compliment on it or someone will tell her they didn't know that was her.
The next question is about what Estelle was most impressed by working on the show. She says she was surprised it wasn't as rigid as she expected. She loved the creativity too. Music usually isn't like that. The creative process for voice over is very different. McKenzie wonders if Rebecca's influenced Estelle's music at all, and Estelle says she would love to work with Rebecca to make an album because her songwriting is so great. She describes it as simple and to the point. She thinks simple songs that are easily sung along to are where it's at. She wants an album to happen, and a tour, with Rebecca.
On recording Garnet's big songs, "Stronger Than You" and "Here Comes a Thought," Estelle says "Stronger Than You" was written by Rebecca without specific songwriting help from her, but Rebecca did ask for some advice on musical influences. Then she brought the song to her (with its initial rap!) and let Estelle have freedom when it came to delivery. Estelle loves that Rebecca respects her as a musician and doesn't just expect her to perform it without any creative input. McKenzie asks for more thoughts on the rap, and Estelle says she wouldn't have recorded it if she didn't like it.
McKenzie points out that the recording happens at the storyboard stage, and asks how that's different from making her own stuff. Estelle says she has an outline and the boards when she sings for the show, but when she makes her own stuff, the story is in her head. She agrees that her own way of performing music is visual, too. Estelle then talks about the experience of doing the song at Comic Con and doing the video. That was the first time she'd done such a thing. The audience was gathered through callouts on social media. Estelle mentions it was super hot and everyone was sweating. They'd floated the idea of Estelle wearing a purple suit or something that would invoke the look of Garnet, but she thought that was silly to cosplay her own character, and went with this black cape. McKenzie thought it was iconic, and Estelle agreed that it's better to do something that isn't obvious.
Tumblr media
On "Here Comes a Thought," Estelle says the process was similar to "Stronger Than You." Estelle recommended Emily King as inspiration for calming music, and she thinks it turned out to be a great choice for the song. She believes the song is "like a lightning rod of water." She recorded it in the studio with AJ Michalka, and was surprised it would be a duet. She doesn't like to go in over-rehearsed and build up a lot of expectations of what it should sound like, so she goes in pretty fresh, without listening to the records too much. She thinks AJ has a lovely voice, and the process for recording the song was pretty similar to the other work she does but "less excitable." AJ is very professional because of her background, and they were able to really knock it out easily.
Next, McKenzie asks for Estelle's favorite Garnet moments. Estelle likes when Garnet asks Greg to water her cat while she's in space. McKenzie asks if she has a hard time keeping a straight face when she's delivering deadpan Garnet lines, and she says usually no unless others are in the room and she gets more context.
Tumblr media
On giving back, Estelle does like doing cons and enjoys going above and beyond with the fans, bringing refreshments and doing dances and stuff. She thinks the experience is way more important than just a piece of paper with a signature. She likes to shout out to fans on social media asking them to send her Garnet-related stuff and she'll share her favorites. She loves when people of all races and genders do Garnet costumes on Halloween. She gets a lot of "crazy" tweets and she retweets or likes or responds to whatever she can.
On "Reunited," McKenzie points out that the Ruby and Sapphire wedding was so important to LGBT fans, and she wants to know how Estelle felt about it all. She loved seeing positive reactions, but she's disappointed in humans in general that such things still need to be celebrated as unusual. Why isn't it just the standard? She doesn't understand. It's a little bittersweet. Estelle likes doing Pride events as an ally and supports the community. She thinks it's silly for people to treat LGBT people with disrespect. She agrees that the wedding was such a step forward, but wants it to stop being considered noteworthy and different--it should just be standard. She loves seeing the Ruby and Sapphire cosplayers in wedding clothes (especially admiring their dedication with that body paint!).
Tumblr media
McKenzie then asks Estelle about her participation in the Black Women Animate Boot Camp program. She says she was asked to participate because her character is "essentially black" even though she's purple, and as a black woman playing her as well, she was inspired to see so many women of color in that room feeling empowered in an animation space, being seen, thinking of this as a possible career. She was so inspired and loved seeing it.
They also touch on Estelle's participation with the Dove Self-Esteem Project. She loves that a big brand wants to emphasize body positivity. The fight to be okay with one's body is always up and down, and the show is about inclusivity and positivity too, so it's a good brand fit.
About “Diamond Days,” McKenzie asks Estelle for non-spoilery hints on what to get excited about. She replies, "This juice is lovely" and sips it loudly, then says she didn't hear the question, then sips the juice loudly again and says, "Next question."
McKenzie amends her question to "SHOULD fans be excited?"
And Estelle just says "WHAT?" and we just hear mic noise.
They agree to skip that one.
McKenzie points out that Estelle's Album Lovers Rock has been released, and she wants to know what's next for Estelle's music career. She's just been promoting the album, and then she's going to work on some stuff for her record label with some artists who are on it, and she's also done an acting role on a TV movie. She's going to work on music for TV too. She might do a Christmas album.

Fan questions:
Q: "If you were in the Steven Universe world, what do you think your Gem weapon would be?"
A: Estelle likes the idea of bubbling people and floating them away.
Q: "Where would Ruby and Sapphire go on their honeymoon if they got a chance to have one?"
A: She's thought about it before and thinks they would go to Iceland, because of the hot springs. They could be hot and cold at the same time.
Q: "What's the most fun part of your job?"
A: Estelle says she loves playing different sounds out of her mouth in the recording booth. Trying stuff out is really fun.
Q: "What is the hardest scene you had to voice act for?"
A: Estelle mentions Garnet unfusing and that she had to make weird noises while that happened, thinking she sounded like Sméagol or like she was crazy, and then having to do it multiple times. She always thought they'd call her back to do it again another time.
Q: "What would you say has been your top favorite episode to be a part of?"
A: Estelle has a hard time choosing, but she loved "Pool Hopping." She liked seeing Steven leading HER around and Garnet having to be vulnerable.
Tumblr media
Q: "Do you remember any particular funny moments from when you were recording?"
A: Estelle thinks the funniest person is Deedee--she's such a parent, and she's in histrionics over whatever acting like the world is caving in, so Estelle thinks it's so hilarious to watch Deedee act with her whole body, standing up, while she herself is sitting down being calm like Garnet. She figures Deedee knows they're all waiting to watch her do her crazy thing.
Q: "For the cast, how is recording for a video game different from recording for the show, for when you guys recorded for Save the Light?"
A: Estelle thinks the lines are shorter, like having to yell "jump!" and then hearing it back later being annoyed they didn't use a different recording of it. There's not a lot of room for creativity in how they want the actors to say the lines, either.
Q: "If you could write your own episode, what would it be about and what would your character be doing?"
A: Estelle acknowledges this wouldn't make sense, but she would explore Garnet having distant sisters and brothers or kids that came out of nowhere. They would be other mini Fusions that didn't grow up--they'd be kids--so they'd be looking to her for how to become adults. She wants to see mini Garnets running around.

1. You and Randy and Kevin are joining Bonham at the regular pre-tour doctor visit. You’ve all already had yours and are set to go while you’re waiting for hers to finish up. She’s in there longer than all of you, and when she comes out, she’s holding back tears. What’s causing them and what do you all say?
We all had to get an HIV test and hers came back possibly positive. I hug her and we get the doctors to do a more thorough test of it to find out that it was actually false. Turns out they mislabeled her test tube with someone else’s blood.
Kevin: Well, I feel bad for that person.
Me: Kevin!
Randy: You’re ok and that’s all that matters
2. You and Bonham are driving down the road with Chuck and the boys in tow. When you stop at a light, there are some maintenance workers bending over a bush, and they’re wearing those neon safety vests. Chuck glances over as one stands up and he says, “Oh gosh, those are workers, I thought they were balloons.” Bonham says, “How did you think that up?” How do you and Kevin and Randy respond?
Me: Uh-huh, that's nice. (I’m kind of zoned out driving)
Kevin: Are you blind?!
Randy: They don’t even look like balloons.
3. You dropped Kevin off at the store while you went to pick up dinner, and only when you get home to Bonham and Randy do you realize you forgot to pick Kevin up. “I’ll be back I have to go get him.” you say. “You forgot your own husband at the store? Real quality wifing.” Randy says sarcastically. How do you and Bonham respond?
Me: I know I know. I’m horrible. I’ll be right back.
Bonham: Don’t make her feel bad.
4. Kevin and Randy are over one day while you’re making lunch. Kevin says, “I’m hungry, when will you be done?” Bonham says, “If you’re hungry have a banana.” Before picking up the bunch by the top. Just as she’s turned around and giving it to Kevin, all the stems break and they all fall to the floor.” Randy just says, “Real smooth, babe.” under his breath. How do you, Kevin, and Bonham respond?
Me: That’s ok we can still eat them.
Kevin: But now they’re dirty.
Me: Have you ever heard of the ten-second rule? Plus you're not eating the rind.
Bonham: Thanks, Randy.
5. You and Bonham are picking Kevin and Randy up from the courthouse one day (they got a joint traffic ticket). You’re waiting for them in the main lobby when Bonham’s phone rings. She answers it, has a short conversation, hangs up abruptly, runs to the bathroom. She’s been in there for a few minutes when the boys come out, so you check to see if she’s okay so you all can go. When you get in there, you see her throw up into the sink. “Are you okay?” you ask. “I’ll be fine, this happens when my mom’s sister calls me. My mom’s sister keeps calling me and asking for money, and it just…makes me sick. It’s fine.” How do you respond, and what do the boys say when you return?
Me: Give me her phone number. I’ll have some choice words with her.
Bonham: I am not giving you her number.
Randy: Where were you guys?
Kevin: Yeah, we’ve been waiting here forever.
Me: I know for a fact you haven’t because I saw you come out three minutes ago. We just had to run to the bathroom. Let’s go.
6. You are getting ready to go to one of Bonham’s FRYS concerts. She invited the boys too, and even paid for their tickets. They say they’ll meet you there, but seating isn’t assigned so you can’t save them seats. After the show, Bonham comes up to you and asks where they are. You say you couldn’t save seats, so you wait a while before you learn that they didn’t show up. You try to brush it off but Bonham gets angry. “They promised to be here, and they’re not! I paid for their tickets and they didn’t bother to show up! What kind of assholes…” How do you respond, and where were the boys?
Me: Maybe they had to leave early?
Kevin and Randy did come but about twenty minutes before the end, Randy got a call that Rudy got into a really bad accident and they both went to the hospital.
7. You are with Bonham and the boys one day when her phone rings. She glances at the ID, says, “Huh,” and answers. After a short conversation, Randy asks, “Who was that?” “My dad.” Kevin looks confused. “I thought your dad was dead.” Without changing tone or expression, Bonham says, “Yeah I wanted you to think that.” How do you and the boys respond?
Me: Yeah, her dad’s annoying.
Kevin: You’ve met him and we haven’t?!
Randy: I mean that’s understandable if he was annoying.
8. You have Kevin over one day. Bonham’s outside in a chair, listening to music on headphones. You two go out to join her and Kevin says, “I’ll be back.” You don’t think anything of it until it’s too late; he comes outside with a watering can and pours it on Bonham. How does she respond and what do you and Kevin say?
Bonham: Kevin! You asshole! (she starts hitting him with her fists)
Kevin: Hey! It was just a joke!
Me: Serves you right. I’d be doing the same thing.
9. Kevin and Bonham disagree about politics, and one day while she’s doing dishes he goes on a rant. You can tell she’s uncomfortable, and at one point she asks him to stop and he says no. He continues his rant until you hear a wet slapping sound and Kevin says, “Hey!” Bonham threw the dirty, wet dishrag at him, and it hit him on the neck. What does she say, what do you say, and how does Kevin respond?
Bonham: I asked you to stop.
Me: She did, Kev. Do you remember the talk we had a couple days ago?
Kevin: If you don’t have something nice to say don’t say anything at all.
Me: And?
Kevin: When someone asks you to stop you stop,
10. You and Kevin and Randy are at Bonham’s mom’s house with her one day when her mom’s work phone rings and Bonham answers. “MAG-Net construction, this is Bonham, how may I help you?…Mags? No. she’s not available currently…Yes, I’ll have her call back as soon as she can. Is there anything else you need?…No?…Okay, have a good day sir.” Once she hangs up, Kevin says, “I’ve never heard that before.” She says, “What, that? Everybody has a customer service voice.” How do you and the boys respond?
Me: This is true. I used to have one when I worked at my serving job.
Kevin: Now, I’d like to see that. I don’t believe you.
Randy: She did. I’ve seen her do it already.
11. You and Bonham went to a karaoke bar with the new lineup of QR, and about 3 hours in, Kevin says to Bonham, “I know for a fact they added our new album to this machine, I challenge you to a sing-off!” (he knows she’s got no shame when she’s drunk). She accepts, and he tells the other patrons about it when they get to the front. “We’re gonna see who you guys think is better at singing my band’s stuff, me or her. Approval is based on applause, who’s ready!” The audience seems to be down, so Kevin launches forward with Breathless. General approval resonates with the audience. Bonham goes next with Thunderbird, and when she finishes, the audience clearly prefers her. She thanks them and she and Kevin step down, but when they get back to the table, Kevin is visibly pissed off. How do you and the rest of the band respond to their performances, and what do Kevin and Bonham say?
We think both of them were great but Bonham’s was better because the karaoke setting is better for Thunderbird than Breathless. We say they both did great.
Kevin: I can’t believe I lost!
Bonham: Hah! I beat you. That’s 50 bucks.
Me: You bet on this?
---------------------
1) You are at an amusement park with Kevin, Randy, and your singer. You’re walking around when your singer gets a devilish smirk on her face and pulls Kevin towards the exit of the water ride, all while he’s screaming, “Noooo!” Once the car hits the bottom it sprays a bunch of water that drenches your singer and Kevin. Your singer is laughing hysterically and Kevin looks pissed. What does Kevin say to her, how does she respond, and what do you and Randy say?
2) You go on a drop ride with your singer and her and Kevin’s son Mal. When you get off Kevin goes to Mal. “So did you like it?” “Yeah!” “Was it scary?” “No.” “Do you want to go again?” Mal pauses before saying, “It was a little scary!” How do you, your singer, Kevin, and Randy respond?
3) You’re sitting on the couch when your singer comes home, drops her bag, and sits next to you on the couch before hugging you and burying her face in your stomach. Kevin and Randy come in and Kevin asks, “What are you doing?” Your singer doesn’t even look up and you can hear a bit muffled, “Leave me alone, Kev. I had a bad day.” How do you, Kevin, and Randy respond?
4)  You and Randy are sitting on the couch and your singer is in the shower singing rather loudly to “Oh Sherrie!” You think nothing of it until you hear, “Kevin! Get the fuck out!” “But I want to shower duet with you.” “No out!” Kevin comes out into the living room with a wet head. What do you and Randy say and how does he respond?
5) You, Randy, Kevin, and your singer are at one of her cousins’ weddings. You’re sitting around a table when a song comes on and her face lights up. She gets up and grabs your hand before going, “Come on Bons!” And pulling you out on the dance floor. What happens next and how do Randy and Kevin react?
6)  You’re out one day with Kevin, Randy, and your singer. Your singer asks Kevin to take a picture of you and her. He does and gives her phone back. She looks at it and then glares at him, “You took a picture of yourself.” “Yes doesn’t it look good.” Your singer pinches the bridge of her nose. What does she say, how does Kevin respond, and what do you and Randy say?
7) You and your singer are on the set of the music video for Twilight Hotel and are on the sidelines watching it. Your singer has all her and Kevin’s kids wrangled up around her so they don’t get in trouble. As you watch, you hear her mutter, “I’d like a pocket Kevin. Then I could keep him out of trouble.” How do you respond?
8)  You, your singer, Randy, and Kevin went out to the bar and your singer was the designated driver. Randy and Kevin got drunk as skunks and you only had one drink. Kevin and Randy are giggling idiots in the back and while driving home your singer looks in her rearview mirror and goes, “Aw shit.” A cop is pulling her over. She goes to the side of the road and before the officer pulls up goes to Randy and Kevin, “Don't fucking say anything...Hello officer. How can I help you today?” How does the pullover go and what do you, Randy, and Kevin do?
9) You and Randy are at your singer and Kevin’s wedding. The band is playing when all of a sudden they stop and Kevin goes into the mic, “Sorry to stop the party everyone, but I’d like to perform a song for my wife.” Randy pulls out his guitar and Kevin sings a song that he’d been working on recently. What did he sing and how do you, your singer, and the rest of the people in attendance react?
10)  Randy got locked in the basement while trying to get something and you and your singer are trying to get him out. Kevin comes home and goes, “What are you doing?” You say, “Trying to get Randy out of the locked basement.” “Here let me try...” He tries to use tools and then sets them down. You look at him, “Wow, some help.” “I’m not finished.” He goes to get something and the next thing you know, he comes running at the door and plows into it, knocking it off its hinges. Randy jumps back once he hits the ground and your singer says, “Wow, Kev, you’re quite the craftsman.” How does Kevin respond and what do you and Randy say?
11) You and your singer are sitting in on the recording of QR’s new album Metal Health. The boys are trying to record ‘Cum on Feel the Noize’ and every time Kevin sings “so you think I’ve got a funny face” your singer screams, “Well fuck you.” Finally, the producer stops them and says, “Ok, All those recordings can’t be used because every time we get to that one part, this one,” he points to your singer, “Decides to scream, ‘Well fuck you’ and we can’t put that on the record.” How do you, Kevin, your singer, Rudy, Carlos, and Frankie respond?
@osbournebemydaddy   your move Bons

The Ultimate Musical Theatre Questionnaire
This is not originally mine, the link is below. I just filled in my answers.
Ultimate Musical Theatre Questionnaire
Some of these will include a Top 5-10…
1. What is your “go-to song” when you’re feeling sad?
It really depends on what “sad” means that day. If I need a boost of confidence “Watch What Happens (Reprise)” or “Once and for All” usually does it. If I need to get out some anger “I’m Done” from Rocky is a fun one to sing. Comforting songs are good too, like “A Little Fall of Rain”.
Honestly, playing a cast album like Newsies or Cinderella really lifts my spirits.
 2. What Broadway song do you relate to?
SO MANY!
Watch What Happens ~ Newsies
Santa Fe ~ “
If I Loved You ~ Carousel
Before the Parade Passes By ~ Hello, Dolly!
 3. Favorite female voice? Favorite male voice?
This one is so hard. Obviously this isn’t a complete list but this is what comes to mind at the moment.
Female:
Barbara Streisand
Laura Osnes
Laura Benanti
Sierra Boggess
Megan Hilty
Kelli O’Hara
Lea Salonga
Phillipa Soo
 Male:
Jeremy Jordan
Alfie Boe
Ramin Karimloo
Santino Fontana
Aaron Tveit
Christian Borle
Lin-Manuel Miranda
Hugh Jackman
4. What is your favorite show based off the music?
Bonnie and Clyde
Death Takes A Holiday
Meet John Doe
The Secret Garden
Chaplin
Literally anything Rodgers and Hammerstein. Even if I don’t care for the show, I usually love the music. I love the wit behind the lyrics.
 5. An overrated song.
Seasons of Love ~ Rent (I love to hate this one. It’s catchy and fun to sing… SOMETIMES…)
All I Ask of You ~ The Phantom of the Opera (I read the book, I’ve seen the movie, the live tour, and the 25th anniversary, but I just don’t like Raoul...)
I’m Not Afraid ~ Songs for a New World
Sixteen Going on Seventeen ~ The Sound of Music (there are other really great songs in this show!)
Tomorrow ~ Annie
I Feel Pretty ~ West Side Story (I mean, really, this is one of the defining songs of this amazing show? America, Maria, and Tonight are so much better in my opinion).
Green Finch and Linnet Bird ~ Sweeney Todd
 6. An underrated song.
Without You ~ My Fair Lady (everyone always does “Wouldn’t It Be Loverly” and “I Could Have Danced All Night” but I don’t think those two songs are the best in the whole show).
How Can Love Survive ~ The Sound of Music (this one wasn’t in the movie but it is an amazing song. It’s so witty and the tune is beautiful. Actually I did this one as a solo for a cabaret show).
Raise A Little Hell ~ Bonnie and Clyde (This one gives me chills every time)
 7. An overrated musical
Avenue Q ~ I am so tired of hearing about this one, and I don’t like the concept or the music.
Book of Mormon ~ I know there are a few good songs but as a Mormon and as a decent human being I find it offensive… Jk about the decent human being thing, but still, I don’t like this one…
Rent ~ I do appreciate that it’s based off of La Boheme, and that it’s a very revolutionary piece, but I’m tired of hearing about it.
Cats ~ why?
Chicago
Little Women ~ Everyone has Sutton Foster Fever and they need to stop. She’s a great actress, but there are other actresses out there and these songs are played too much.
Into the Woods
Songs for a New World ~ BIG TIME. It really bothers me that the songs I like from this show are less popular than the ones everyone raves about.
You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown ~ Any of the Charlie Brown musicals… I don’t really have a connection and I don’t think the music is particularly clever…
Seussical ~ I’ve been in one full production of this and I also played the Cat in the Hat in a dance recital (that one was actually fun), but I LOATHE this show. It’s very childish, and I get that that’s the point, but it’s really childish. It’s on a similar plane to Charlie Brown in my eyes.
Grease ~ Seriously, the story to this one is terrible. Yeah, go ahead and change yourself for your crush because he’s not man enough to tell his friends and society that your social status shouldn’t matter when you’re in love… Also some of the music gets on my nerves, and I don’t really like the movie either.
A Chorus Line
The King and I ~ Personally not my favorite Rodgers and Hammerstein show. There are some good songs but I like some of their other shows far more.
How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying ~ Ugh…
Cabaret ~ Another really poignant show but no one really focuses much on the story, they just like the suggestive and scandalous songs.
Pippin
Annie
Oliver
Sweeney Todd
Falsettos ~ Now I know I’m going to get a lot of hate for this one but I still had to say it. It is a really great show and I don’t hate it. It’s just there was so much hype before the Tony’s and so much hate directly after.  I just don’t like how negatively people acted when it didn’t win Best Revival. (I thought that Miss Saigon was going to win but whatever). I just really dislike the hate that goes along with not liking this show. I don’t think the writers would have appreciated that, and I don’t really think the actors would either.
I’m adding an extra category because there are some shows that are overrated but I still like them a lot...
The Lion King ~ -ish… I still like the show, but everyone raves about it when there are some other really great shows out there.
Hamilton ~ Again, I like the show, but everyone is obsessed…
Dear Evan Hansen ~ I don’t know whether it really deserved to win best musical… But then again the lyrics and staging were really on point.
In The Heights ~ There is so much good about this show but I do think it’s a bit overrated...
 8. An underrated musical
Rocky (I think the music is adorable, but then again I’m a South Jersey girl so Rocky holds a special place in my heart)
Love Never Dies ~ Lots of people hate this but I really like it. This is definitely one that you need to actually see to appreciate it. I really like the character development, if you can get past all of the weird Coney Island stuff. Plus, you know I hate Raoul.
The Scarlet Pimpernel
Dracula
Show Boat ~ This one is a classic but still, it doesn’t get nearly enough attention.
Death Takes A Holiday
Bonnie and Clyde
Meet John Doe
Chaplin ~ I will never get over how CRIMINALLY underrated this one is.
The Woman in White ~ Why doesn’t anyone talk about this?!
 9. How many cast recording albums do you own?
Technically… I own Newsies, Cinderella, and the celebrity version of Finding Neverland...
Of course thanks to the library I was able to download quite a bit to my computer so…
Wicked
Beauty and the Beast
The Phantom of the Opera 25th Anniversary
Bombshell ~ Smash, I count this one.
Mary Poppins
South Pacific
I also have various songs from some different shows.
 10. Do you buy the whole cast recording, even if there are songs you are not fond of?
Depends. I don’t really have that many. If there’s only a few songs I like I’ll just buy the songs separately, but if I like the majority of the album I would definitely buy the whole thing.
 11. What was the first cast recording you owned?
Newsies, but I think I had some songs here and there before that.
 12. How many playlists do you have on your mp3 or iPod? If just one playlist, how many songs?
I’ve got at least 5 different Spotify playlists. Usually I listen to songs on Pandora so I can get some new suggestions.
 13. Song that reminds you of someone else?
Beauty and the Beast ~ Technically the movie version but… This was going to be my parents’ wedding song.
The entire album for Show Boat
Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again ~ The Phantom of the Opera
The Love I Meant To Say ~ Smash. Also not really from a show but this one touches my heart so much.
 14. Stephen Sondheim or Andrew Lloyd Webber?
This is a really tough one. I think ALW’s music is a bit more accessible to me and he has many great shows (and some really overrated ones). Stephen Sondheim is also extraordinary, but I like his more melodic songs which can be few and far between. Sondheim is challenging to sing and understand sometimes.
 15. Favorite choreographed number?
King of New York ~ Newsies
I’m sure there are others but I can’t think of any right now.
 16. What do you think of shows based around the music of other artists? (i.e. American Idiot, Mamma Mia)
I like Mamma Mia, and I’ve heard that All Shook Up is really good. If the storyline is as compelling as the music, then I’ll love it.
17. Favorite song cut from a show?
The Truth about the Moon ~ Newsies (I want sheet music so bad!)
One Man ~ Seven Brides for Seven Brothers
 18. Most powerful (vocally) song
Female:
Once Upon A Time ~ Brooklyn
When It All Falls Down ~ Chaplin
 Male:
Who Am I ~ Les Miserables
Raise a Little Hell ~ Bonnie and Clyde
Music of the Night ~ The Phantom of the Opera
 19. Favorite song from your least favorite show.
I’ll just name one, “Stars and the Moon” from Songs for a New World
 20. No-Dry-Eye Broadway song.
 I cry in almost everything…
Letter from the Refuge ~ Newsies
Santa Fe (prologue) ~ Newsies
Santa Fe ~ Newsies
The entire score to Les Mis
I’ll Be Here ~ Ordinary Days (listen to it and you will bawl your eyes out if you have a soul)
Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again ~ The Phantom of the Opera
When the Phantom sings a reprise of “All I Ask of You” during “Past the Point of No Return”. Also his reprise of “Masquerade” at the end and when he sings, “Christine, I love you…”
Dyin’ Ain’t So Bad ~ Bonnie and Clyde
Hold On ~ The Secret Garden
You Don’t Know This Man ~ Parade
 21. Your favorite Broadway duet
Love Songs
If I Loved You ~ Carousel
Something to Believe In ~ Newsies
 Non-Love Songs
A Little Fall of Rain ~ Les Mis
How Can Love Survive ~ The Sound of Music
Chip on My Shoulder ~ Legally Blonde (can’t actually remember if this is a duet or not…)
 22. Do you reenact/sing in front of the mirror/pretend you’re the character when you’re singing along to a song?
All the time.
 23. Top five Broadway songs.
 Nope, can’t do it.
 24. A broadway song that makes you cringe. (i.e. least favorite)
I’m Not Afraid of Anything ~ Songs for a New World
Seasons of Love ~ Rent
 25. What shows have you seen?
On Broadway:
Newsies (Once with Jeremy Jordan and once with Corey Cott)
Cinderella
Wicked (With Aaron Tveit when I was 13 and didn’t even know who he was…)
 On Tour/Professional:
Mary Poppins
The Phantom of the Opera
Emma The Musical (I don’t think this one has been on broadway but Colin Patrick Hanlon and Annelise Van Der Pol were in it)
Peter and the Starcatcher
 26. If you could play any role on Broadway, what would it be?
Katherine Plumber
  27. Name some stars you’ve met at the stage door.
Jeremy Jordan, Corey Cott (I chased him down the street before the show…), Andrew Keenan-Bolger, Annelise Van Der Pol, Carpathia Jenkins, Andy Richardson, pretty much the entire OBC from Newsies.
 EXCEPT FOR TOMMY BRACCO...
 28. If you could go up to New York and see any and every Broadway show you want to, what would you go see?
There are so many shows… Right now maybe Dear Evan Hansen or The Great Comet (if it’s still running…)
 29. Which Broadway star do you want to see live more than anyone else?
Laura Osnes, Hugh Jackman, Neil Patrick Harris, Laura Benanti, Christian Borle, Andy Mientus, Santino Fontana.
 30. Favorite Tony Awards host?
Neil Patrick Harris
 31. Least Favorite Musical
Any of the overrated ones, but for the sake of time Cats.
32. What is your go-to shower song?
A crazy patter song like “Watch What Happens” (Newsies)
Also “I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Out of My Hair” from South Pacific. My grandmother used to sing this song to me when she gave me baths when I was a toddler and young child.
 33. What does Broadway mean to you?
It’s my life. I love Broadway and everything about it, and one day I will be performing there.
And I’m too tired to write anymore...

Monday Early Bird Book Releases – 04-27-2020
HAPPY MONDAY & HAPPY EARLY BIRDS list! Though this one is pretty short today, but that’s okay, ’cause the ones that did go live sound pretty great to me!! Like that one there to the left.  And I’ll keep an eye out for more and add them as I see them.
“Three Things”:
1.) I watched Jumanji: The Next Level on Saturday and it made me laugh so hard. Cute story, crazy edge-of-your-seat situations that… of course you know they’re gonna get out of, but things get dicey. Oh that is… unless they “die” but they have three lives so you know they’re coming back. Hilarious and fun and sweet!!
2.) My vegetable subscription company (Misfits) has started sending pretty awesome reusable ice packs in their boxes. Well, they’ve always done that, but this time, the ice packs have plant food inside!! Nitrogen-based, and I fed my Peace Lily with one last time, and I swear she looks amazing right now! I love when everything can be recycled or reused (and this use is amazing). Very cool indeed!
3.) I went crazy for “Final Serenade” and I miss those characters all so much. I REALLY got attached, and I think it’s because 1.) It read so well – flowed perfectly and had that real feel. And 2.) Because I was always in her head, I BECAME HER and I can’t wait for #2 to be released so I can get back to my book life. I mean hers. LOL!!! My review to come next.

LOOK WHAT JUST WENT LIVE  !!!
Lovewrecked by Karina Halle <— Karina Halle ALERT!! OMG I LOVE THE SOUND OF THIS!!! The grumpy groomsman & the Raif of honor and they’re shipwrecked together!! “…As if being part of the wedding party with Tai wasn’t bad enough, Daisy’s bad luck soon resurfaces when she ends up on a cramped sailboat with Tai and the newlyweds. Which then shipwrecks on a deserted island near Fiji. Okay, so they aren’t completely alone. There’s an oddball research scientist who has been isolated for far too long, they have rundown bungalows as shelter, stores of water and canned food, plus a feral goat named Wilson. It’s Lost…without the smoke monster. But with rescue weeks away, Tai and Daisy realize the only way they’re going to get through this mess is to stop fighting and start working together...”
Why I Still Hate You (So Crazy, It’s Messed Up Book 1) by Monica Bolt <— OOOOOPS with her bully!!! “...Grayson Anderson is the reason why I’m holding a pregnancy test in my hands. How could I have been so stupid? The guy bullied and tormented me for years in high school. Then ten years later, I just… fall into his bed? In my defense, I was wasted...”
Torrid Love: Friends to Lovers Romance (Bad Boy Studs Book 1) by Scarlett Avery
Almost Perfect by Dawn Doyle
Still Love You by Ella Goode <— MARITAL STRIFE ALERT!! “…Abigail Weathers loves her husband so much that she’s kept something hidden for years—contact with her troublesome brother. Her brother has been an albatross around her neck for years but he’s her only living kin and every time he contacts her for money, she gives it. Only this time she has to pawn something very dear to her heart and she’s worried that it’ll cost her the one thing she loves—her husband…”
Easy Risk: A Boudreaux Universe Novel by Bethany Lopez <— SHE’S BEEN WARNED OFF THE COP... “…Alicia loves her life. Ever since she moved to New Orleans from Michigan, she’s been accepted for who she is and is thriving in The Big Easy. She’s open to love, although not actively looking for it, so when her best friend and roommate asks her to steer clear of Doobie romantically, she readily agrees. After all, she’s never even met him…“

My Top 10 Concerts of the Year (and more)
I created this blog about a year ago to post reviews of the shows I went to... and then I didn’t. So here’s a brief take on each full show I went to this year plus a video or two from my YouTube channel. Headliners are given the most precedent for the ranking, but I took the whole event into account.
Check out my full list of attended concerts here.
and my concert clip YouTube channel here.
1. Oct 12, 2019 Finale: The Farewell Tour   Peter Frampton / Jason Bonham's Led Zeppelin Evening / Julian Frampton Band Concord Pavilion Concord, CA
Peter Frampton’s “final” show (outside of a recently announced European tour) never felt like the end of the road for the guitar legend. The set drew largely from “Frampton Comes Alive” and nearly every song was extended with improvised guitar solos that took the 2019 live versions to the next level. The intensity ramped up towards the me of the main set, with an instrumental cover of Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun,” a nearly 20 minute version of “(I’ll Give You) Money” and massive singalongs on “Baby, I Love Your Way” and “Do You Feel Like I Do.”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FSJ3N-P_xWM
Peter Frampton’s son, Julian Frampton opened the show, while Jason Bonham kept the family affair going by paying faithful tribute to his father, John Bonham, with the Led Zeppelin Evening.
2. Dec 05, 2019 Alice in Winterland 2019   Kesha / Avril Lavigne / Flora Cash The Masonic San Francisco, CA
Alice 97.3’s annual “Alice in Winterland” holiday radio festival was co-headlined by two of pop’s biggest stars of the 21st century so far. Following an opening set from Flora Cash, Avril Lavigne kicked off her set with recent single “Head Above Water” before running through a career spanning 8 song set (including an two costume changes and an encore break) with every song keeping very close to the original recording.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i41-CrbxUIA
By contrast, Kesha’s performance was incredibly loose and free-wheeling, with songs rarely sounding anything like the album versions. Early hits like “Your Love is My Drug” and “Take it Off” were sped up, punk rock style, with the latter getting rowdy enough that Kesha had to dodge dozens of clothing items that were... taken off. In between bras flying and confetti guns and streamer cannons, Kesha performed 9 songs total, including a fan request for newer album cut “Boots” before closing with her debut single “Tik Tok.”

3. Jul 20, 2019 – Jul 21, 2019 Vans Warped 25 Years
Travie McCoy / Skating Polly / Doll Skin / I the Mighty / Ariana and The Rose / The Aquadolls / ONE OK ROCK / Face To Face / The Vandals / We The Kings / Anti-Flag / Ozomatli / Chali 2na & Cut Chemist / Meg & Dia / Goldfinger / Less Than Jake / Simple Plan / Atreyu / Go Betty Go / Bad Cop / Bad Cop / The All-American Rejects / Tsunami Bomb / Teenage Bottlerocket / Sum 41 / Yungblud / Machine Gun Kelly / Andrew W.K. / The Used (and more) Shoreline Ampitheatre Mountain View, CA
After wrapping up the cross-country version of the Warped Tour last year, Kevin Lyman brought the 25th anniversary celebrations to just three U.S. cities, closing in Mountain View, CA. Compared to the touring editions, Warped 25 felt supersized. Bigger stages. Bigger bands. Longer sets. The return of the half pipe and Lucha Libre wrestling. Even a Warped Tour museum.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m1_SO4lp4wo
Of course, the main draw of the Warped Tour has always been the music and with 70 artists over two days there were lots of options. Between the three stages you could see bands who played Warped’s earliest days like Face to Face and the Vandals, followed by first timers like Ariana and the Rose and Yungblud. The latter brought one of the few true surprises with Warped alum Machine Gun Kelly crowd surfing his way through “I Think I’m Okay” twice in a row. It’s easy to see Warped 25 being a blueprint for future “Warped Weekends” I’m select cities, if the tour really is officially over.

4. Apr 12, 2019 Fight the Good Fight Tour The Interrupters / Masked Intruder / The Bombpops   The Regency Ballroom San Francisco, CA
This sold out show was by far the biggest Bay Area headliner for The Interrupters, coming off the success of radio smash “She’s Kerosene” and one night before their debut at Coachella. From the first song, the crowd sang and danced along to every word, at times shaking the floor of the Regency Ballroom. The LA band even paid tribute to Bay Area music with teases of tracks by Metallica, Green Day, NOFX and Rancid before settling into a cover of Operation Ivy’s “Sound System.” The rest of the set was evenly split between the band’s three albums and the energy never let up throughout.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WbA4THZIqK8
Prior to the headliner, punk band Masked Intruder played a nearly hour long set. As their name suggests, all four members of the band conceal their identities with ski masks and nearly every part of the show has a “criminal” theme. This shtick could have been very corny, but lead to fun surprises like the straight-faced, on stage police officer dancing in the crowd and (hopefully fake) beating up the band with a night stick. Crowd participation went to the next level when an audience member was brought up to sing “Heart Shaped Guitar” with the band.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1Vyy3y0n3E
Opening the night were the dual-lead vocal attack of The Bombpops, who brought loud and fast punk rock songs like “CA in July” and “Dear Beer.”
5. Jun 03, 2019 The People Tour MMXIX   Hillsong United / Amanda Lindsey Cook / Mack Brock Oracle Arena Oakland, CA
Hillsong United may be a “church” band but they were easily able to pass for an arena rock band at Oracle Arena. The Australian worship band came equipped with two stages, three smart phone shaped screens and all the laser lights you could possibly want. United’s set drew mostly on their 2019 album People, but thanks to a lyric ticker above the stage, the near capacity crowd song along to every song. When they did break out older songs like “The Stand” or “From the Inside Out”, it tended to be only the bridge and chorus of the song but repeated enough to last a few minutes each. All told, it was over two hours and 20+ songs of praise music from Hillsong United.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p4EWL8Wr5Ig
If that wasn’t enough, the People Tour brought worship leaders from two other well known churches to join the party. Mack Brock from Charlotte, NC’s Elevation Worship opened the night with a short set on the b-stage in the middle of the arena. This performance would be later immortalized by a live EP featuring two songs from Brock’s solo work as well as the Elevation anthem “Do It Again.”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-qEv7qeCos
Amanda Lindsay Cook from Redding, CA’s Bethel Church took the middle slot, utilizing the lights and screens of the main stage to bring her songs to the next level. She opened with a reworked take on her most famous song with Bethel, “You Make Me Brave” followed by about a half hour of slow burning tracks from her two solo albums.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FC9GQEHle14
6. Mar 26, 2019
Girl The World Tour Maren Morris / Cassadee Pope   The Masonic San Francisco, CA
Less than a month after her sophomore album Girl released, Maren Morris brought all but one of those songs to her set at the Masonic. In between, she revealed much of the inspiration behind the lyrics, especially those about husband Ryan Hurd, having spent their first wedding anniversary together in the city earlier in the week. Newer songs like “The Bones” and “RSVP” got big reactions but it was early songs like “My Church” and “Rich” that really had the crowd singing. Of course the biggest singalong was reserved for the final song of the night, pop-crossover smash “The Middle.”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fpt8Bnep9tA
Before joining Maren Morris for a verse on “All My Favorite People,” The Voice winner and former Hey Monday lead singer Cassadee Pope opened the show with a handful of new songs along with her breakout singles “Wasting All These Tears” and “Think of You.”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8Ue4n57jlQ
7. Nov 25, 2019 Ximena Sariñana / Mylko   The RitzSan Jose, CA
Just couple of weeks after performing at the Latin Grammy’s, where she was nominated for both Record and Album of the Year, Ximena Sariñana played her first Bay Area show since 2013’s Outside Lands festival. The night club atmosphere was obvious early and for awhile there was more chatter than singing from the audience. Ximena eventually got the crowd on her side with recent single “Si Tu Te Vas” followed some of the earliest songs from her career. The biggest highlights were songs Ximena originally did with other artists. The first was an acoustic version of “Aire Soy,” originally a duet with Miguel Bosé, here featuring the band Mylko who opened the show and acted as two-thirds of Ximena’s backing band. Later in the night, came “Mis Sentimientos,” a Los Angeles Azules song that here felt more reggae than cumbia with the stripped down production.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oF-Iqe_WFW8
Before playing bass and drums in Ximena’s band, Mylko played a half hour of their own songs, blending electronic sounds and falsetto vocals. The duo played all of the synths and drum pads live which made the songs feel looser and more jammy than you might expect from the genre.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12HXYhClgLI
8. Aug 30, 2019 Nelly / TLC / Flo Rida / J-Kwon / Sage the Gemini / Gorilla Zoe / 99 Percent Shoreline Ampitheatre Mountain View. CA
The tour unofficially known as the “Whole Lotta Hits Tour” definitely lived up to that billing with some of the biggest hits of the last thirty years.Flo Rida was the first of the three headliners but could have easily closed the night. Not only did he bring the hits like “Low” and “My House” but Flo Rida also came with every gimmick in the book to make the show feel bigger. Sometimes it was stuff thrown into the crowd (t-shirts, roses, CASH!); other times, audience members were brought up on stage to sing or dance. Not once but twice, Flo Rida hopped on a security guard’s back to trek up the the lawn the greet the fans in the cheap seats. As if hits and antics weren’t enough, there were special guests galore. Bay Area rap group 99 Percent came out for their part on “Cake” while Gorilla Zoe surprised the crowd with his hit “Hood Figga” along with a couple of newer songs. The Bay Area flavor continued with Sage the Gemini and his post-hyphy song “Gas Pedal” along with two features with Flo Rida. In all, Flo Rida brought everything he could do please the audience and make his performance a hard act to follow.

R&B legends TLC had that honor, with a set that was very similar to their show at the San Mateo County Fair last year. Where this summer’s show differed was the pure size of the production. TLC utilized the large screen to provide a different moving backdrop for each song, making the show feel more like the arena shows of the group’s prime. “Red Light Special,” for example, use silhouettes to mimic the actions of the on stage dancers and seemingly increase the number of performers on stage. The end of show featured the late Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes’ famous music video moments as her verse from “Waterfalls” played and Shoreline was lit up by cell phone lights.

Ostensibly, Nelly was the biggest of this three headliner show, but his set had an uphill climb to match the two prior to him. Sure, he played all the songs you’d want to hear like “Ride Wit Me” and even his verse on Florida Georgia Line’s “Cruise,” but just speeding them up slightly couldn’t mask the lack of production or interesting elements to the show. The screen mostly showed the original music videos for songs, and outside of dancers and a dj, there wasn’t much going on on stage. Nelly did have his own surprise guest, bringing out his nephew J-Kwon for 2004’s smash “Tipsy.” Any momentum that created disappeared with words that can be a kiss of death at any show. “I’m gonna do a few new songs now.” Three unreleased singles later, Nelly finally made it to “Hot in Herre,” “Dilemma” and “Just a Dream” but he never really had a chance at following the previous two acts.

9. Jun 22, 2019 Sanctuary Tour   Aly & AJ Alameda County Fairgrounds Pleasanton, CA
County fair shows usually feature either extreme nostalgia acts or young artists that still have a lot to prove. Aly & AJ feel like both and neither at the same time. On tour for their second EP since breaking a ten year hiatus, the sister act went back and forth between their old Disney Channel hits and the newer critically acclaimed mid-tempo pop. With a mixed, fair-going crowd, it made sense that early songs like “Potential Break Up Song” and “Like Whoa” connected more often than the recent ones but the band gave full effort to each track, whether it was a rock-edged guitar track or a more soulful synth pop ballad. Considering this was a more casual audience and venue than the shows on their club tour, (plus an interruption for an altercation between two fans and a security guard,) Aly & AJ still managed to impress. The full show with opening acts and a longer set would probably be a better atmosphere though.

10. May 15, 2019 Nice to Meet U Tour   Bea Miller Great American Music Hall San Francisco, CA
The same week she was announced as a performer at the Outside Lands festival, Bea Miller brought her first headlining tour to San Francisco for a sold out show. With no opening act, this show felt more like “An Evening With” Bea Miller, even if the evening was over in just over an hour. Bea spent the better part of the hour telling the stories of about her EPs turned into album Aurora. The highlight of this part of the set was an acoustic version of “Like That,” a song she says still makes her cry on stage sometimes. So, of course, a crew member was sure to hand her a tissue as soon as it was over, just to lighten the mood. That latter portion of the night featured less talking and more well known songs, like a remixed “Fire N Gold”, new single “it’s not u, it’s me’ and Bea’s biggest hit to date “I Wanna Know.”

Jun 15, 2019 The Bash Music & Craft Beer Festival 2019   Rancid / Pennywise / Suicidal Tendencies / L7 / Sharp Shock Santa Clara County FairgroundsSan Jose, CA
Punk rock beer fests have emerged as a sort of “Warped Tour for older people” which might be sustainable in the post-Warped era. Rancid played an hour of mostly the old songs you would expect, preceded by veteran bands Pennywise and Suicidal Tendencies among others. My only two gripes: 1. the beer fest portion occured before the bands started playing 2. “Institutionalized” sounds less manic from a 57 year old Mike Muir than twenty something Mike Muir.

Jan 04, 2019 AT&T Playoff Playlist Live! 2019   Alessia Cara / Alex Aiono / Brynn Elliott Discovery Meadow San Jose, CA
This was the first of a planned three nights of concerts celebrating the national college football championship and would’ve been the least attended if the third night weren’t rained out. Musically, the show was fine, featuring ten song sets from up-and-coming artists Brynn Elliott and Alex Aiono, with slightly more established Alessia Cara closing. However, the show never felt like it was about the music. In between each set was around an hour of brand ads and promo reads that, on a frigid night, felt like overkill considering only a 45 minute headlining set.

Aug 02, 2019 Pop 2000 Tour O-Town / Aaron Carter / Ryan Cabrera / Tyler Hilton The Mountain Winery Saratoga, CA
For a tour based mostly in nostalgia, this show featured a lot of new songs. That was not always a bad thing, as Aaron Carter’s solo keyboard, laptop and vocal performance showed. It was telling when O-Town’s “biggest fan” was brought on stage to win a prize and couldn’t name a single song from their new album. With only a couple acoustic guitars (at one point, Ryan Cabrera even had to borrow Tyler Hilton’s,) a keyboard and two laptops between the artists, this felt more like a backyard barbecue with slightly more famous than usual entertainment.

For the last four years, Wes Mack has been writing, recording, and figuring out his new album as a whole – and now Soul is here with seven songs for country music fans to listen to as a collection from the Calgary, AB artist.
Canadian country music listeners may recognize House On Fire and PBR State Of Mind from 2018 when they were released as singles. And they may also recognize Never Have I Ever (featuring Sons Of Daughters) and more recently, Best Hangover (featuring Maddie Storvold) which were also released in the lead-up to Soul. That leaves three new tracks on the album, the title track Soul along with Hideout and Just Getting Warmed Up. At 23 minutes, the album is easy to listen to without taking up too much of your time. It gives some different vibes and sounds along the way but wasn’t put together with any goal of hitting specific marks.
Related: Never Have I Ever – Wes Mack Interview & 5 Quick Questions
Wes talked about really trying to move away from the formula of creating an album that had the wedding song and the heartbreak ballad plus the party songs and making sure there were four songs aimed at radio. He feels that working within those parameters can take away his freedom as an artist to concentrate on the songs he’s really feeling and wants to record and release. He added that he wanted this album to be less of that checklist and more of an encapsulation of the last few years of his life as an artist and a person.
#gallery-0-7 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-7 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-0-7 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-7 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
And while it wasn’t necessarily the plan, Wes does give the uptempo party songs like House On Fire while also including a deep and personal track like Soul that made him feel like the album was ready, and that he loved so much that it was an easy choice as the title of his second album.
Related: House On Fire – Wes Mack Interview & 5 Quick Questions
We hadn’t had a chance to talk to Wes about Best Hangover since its release, so we took a few minutes to ask about collaborating with Maddie Storvold (The Launch, Season 2). The Never Have I Ever collaboration on the album made sense in a very obvious way with Jimmy Thow co-writing and co-producing the track, as well as being a long-time friend of Wes. But Maddie’s appearance was a little more of a question mark. He told us that someone pointed her out to him as having a really cool voice that he should listen to. So he dug in and listened to songs and checked out some interviews and came away thinking, “She’s got this kind of like interesting X factor thing… and I feel like this is the addition that will make this song what it needs to be.” From there he reached out and they worked out the details and made everything happen. Unfortunately, they weren’t able to record in studio together, but the collaboration still came together and still worked and as fans of both artists (and people), we’re happy to see it and listen to it.

As we talked about Soul and the time that has passed since the release of Edge Of The Storm in 2015, Wes admitted that the first couple of years lacked focus on creating the follow-up. He was acting and writing and working, and while a lot of songs may have been written and demos recorded, he wasn’t looking at an album as the immediate goal.
Related: Edge Of The Storm – Wes Mack Album Release Party (Sept. 2015)
In a Facebook post celebrating the release of the album today, Wes said, “This album was tricky. I thought I had plan all figured out after Edge but as I mentioned in the liner notes on that record… life often takes your plans for a bit of ride. So be it. You pick up the pieces and make something new. That’s what this album is for me. It started as one thing and it became a journey for me of discovering the people and things in my life that matter the most, and of rediscovering what I love about music and why it’s a part of my SOUL. Maybe most of all it became a process of finding what I care most about in myself and how I want to show that side to the world.”⁣
We know he worked hard to make this happen, so we’re happy for him and his excitement.
Because we’ve played 5 Quick Questions with Wes twice in the last two years, we skipped it this time around. But that doesn’t mean we didn’t ask a couple of rapid-fire queries at him.
Q. If you had to choose between a PBR and a Miller Lite (if they were both cold and available), which would you choose? Wes. “I’d probably be fairly happy with either… (but) I feel like in my mind I’m grabbing the Miller Lite.” Q. Who is your favourite DC comics universe super villain? Wes. “Well obviously it’s going to be Icicle, in a very self-serving way, it’s the only one that I’ve ever gotten to play!” Q. If you could do a cross-genre collaboration, which artist would you choose to work with? Wes. “John Mayer immediately comes to mind, but I always say that… there’s an artist right now, Lewis Capaldi who I just love, a Scottish singer who has blown up in the last year, and I suspect by this time next year will be the biggest thing around. The guy’s got a sick voice AND is the funniest human alive on social media.”
We also went back a couple of years and asked Wes if he has one standout memory from his time touring with Shania Twain. He immediately had an answer and told us that when they played London, ON he removed his in-ear monitor for the first time to hear the cheers at the end of Party For Two, and it blew his mind. He was new to using in-ears, and while he knew they blocked the outside sound, he had no idea how loudly people were cheering until he actually experienced it. Hearing him tell us about standing beside Shania, her arm around him and thousands of people cheering after he’d finished his duet with her definitely sounds like a memory worth holding onto.
While we congratulated Wes on the release of Soul we also asked him what comes next. He told us that there were about 100 songs written while working on the album, and there are a couple that have been recorded and earmarked for album #3. He also told us that there are some acting and film projects that he’s ready to dig into (that he couldn’t give us details about). And if we were to make a guess, we’d say he’ll be directing music videos as well.
Congratulations to Wes Mack on the release of Soul. Hit play on the stream, watch the music videos in the post and scroll down for more photos from our hangout at Nathan Phillips Square in Toronto.

Wayne Paul McCartney was given birth to 18. June 1942 in Liverpool England. His family live near Allerton simply a mile from the home of John Lennon. The two, who met at a party the same parish quickly become friends, share his passion of music. The first thought then, as happens every self-respecting teen dream, is to form a group and so they were immediately put to work to accomplish this ardent desire. Basically it can be said that in these distant start formed the core of the future Beatles, if we believe it is soon co-opted George Harrison and later, drummer Ringo Starr. Shaped in ' 56 this group of beardless males will be the Beatles in 1960. Personalities of three are differentiated enough, although, naturally, some elements are leaning more to the offence while others are more balanced; being the case with centered Paul straight away with the composition of the kind of poignant lyrical music, there will be a characteristic feature. In addition to the serious musician and performer how much keep in mind the pure instrumental music, especially technical aspect, which soon will be, from a simple bass player, a true musician, dares himself with guitar and some with keyboards. This means that another highlight in music performer McCartney is the wedding. Of the four then Paul is without a question the most angelic that I believe appeal to mothers and girls from good families. He will keep the press relations, working with public relations and fan, in contrast to the picture worn and worn, there would always misunderstood genius and "banded". Needless to say, this is the time when the other genius of the Quartet, John Lennon, will sign his most memorable songs; many of the most memorable tunes of "cockroaches" (this is the meaning of the beatles in Italian), is actually signed by both. Are pieces, where even today fans argue over who is going to be critical contributions: If perhaps Paul or John. The facts lies somewhere in the Middle, or in other words that both were major talents, which thankfully has lavished plenty for the Beatles ' eternal glory. However, it should not be forgotten that the greatest album of the English Quartet, the album, which was considered to be the greatest rock ie ever written, "Sgt Pepper", is essentially the work of Paul. In the middle of all this, but a term shopping for George Harrison, talent by no means despicable and there would in fact also justifies the term "genius". Location of the Beatles was what it was and it is useless to trace here the glories of the greatest group ever existed. Go here, however, recalled that during the parable descendant, is profit on McCartney if went to port jobs are designed to try to revive the luck of the Group; including the film "Magical Mystery Concert tours " or as the documentary truth " very well "Let it be". In addition, it must be definitely recalled Paul's insistence because the band selected to perform live. But by the end of the Beatles was close by and no person could do anything about it... 12 March 1969 in fact Paul marries Bela Eastman and log changes in their lives. Since a beatle, gives enthusiasts one last big test on the album "Abbey Road" (1969), but in December of that 12 months he announced his giving the group. A few months after the Beatles ceases to exist. McCartney always flanked by the faithful Linda, commences a fresh career, alternating solo studies of good quality music tracks and collaborations with other musicians. One of the most enduring is that sees him surrounded by wings, he wanted in 1971-group and which, in fact, even in line with the experts, will never be much more than a simple emanation of genius Uk. His career is, nevertheless , a number of success, among Awards, Gold information, and record sales: in 1981, experience with flapping ends. Inside the years 80 Paul McCartney goes on his hot streak heading back and forth with stars like Stevie Ponder or Michael Jackson, live, and again after a long period, sings "Let it Be" in the grand ending of Bob Geldof Live Aid London, 1985. Nevertheless the real return "on stage" takes place in 1989, with a world travel for almost 12 several weeks will show you in great condition with music artists from large caliber. Intended for the first time since the break-up Mccartney perform live many of the most famous tunes by the Beatles. In 1993, " new world " tour, so the surprise: Paul, George and Ringo are assembled in the Studio in 95 to focus on two music unsolved by John, "Free as a bird" and "real love", two new Beatles song " very well after quarter of a century.
