9/11 Fireman’s Son Sees Dad on Archives Instagram

“Hello, I just came across this picture that you posted and the firefighter in the middle is my dad. Is there any way you can send me the original photo?”

20 years after that haunting picture was taken at Ground Zero, a 9/11 Instagram post connected a firefighter to the National Archives. Last November we had the honor of welcoming the Bardo family to the National Archives.

Es war Anfangs September, und wir waren gefühlt die Letzten, die Sommerferien gemacht haben. Diesmal stand wieder Tauchen auf dem Programm. Wir hatten schon lange vor, wieder einmal nach El Quseir ins Mövenpick zum Tauchen zu gehen. Wir waren das letzte Mal 2009 dort und speziell das Hausriff hat uns damals super gefallen. Darum ging es dieses Jahr wieder dort hin. Nun sind wir auch schon seit ein paar Tagen wieder in Zürich zurück. Uns haben viele Fragen über die Anreise, die Lage, die Anlage, das Essen, das Tauchen, das Schnorcheln, aber auch über das Wetter, usw. erreicht. 🌸 FLOWER HAT JELLYFISH 🌸

This hydrozoan jellyfish, Olindias spps, found in Southern Japan 🇯🇵, has some beautiful colours! It is commonly called the Flower Hat Jellyfish 🌸

As you can see, it has fluorescent green and pink/purple colours which are rarely seen in jellyfish! During the day this jellyfish rests on the ocean floor and swims around at night to hunt its dinner 🍽

This jellyfish is about 4-8cm/1.5-3.1in wide! So is quite small!

I have the adorably awkward coordination of a rom-com character. It was a thought that haunted me as I slithered into my purple mermaid tail for the first time. Yes, we were at the Four Seasons in Bora Bora, a location so comically beautiful it feels like living inside of an Instagram filter. And yes, I was about to put my fate in the hands of a professional mermaid trainer, whose enthusiasm for the trade was enough to carry me through my initial misgivings. But transformation takes time. Sure, I had played “mermaids” in the pool with friends as a kid. But when faced with an actual tail, was my quest to become an otherworldly creature of the sea bound to belly flop as I attempted to become an actual, card-carrying mermaid?
