Hey, you up there, have you ever wanted to play Pathfinder 2, or want to play it moooore? Well, my newest friend, have I got a deal for you! The Living World server Kelek is currently recruiting players and Game Masters to join them in a post-apocalypse city where you can undertake dangerous missions, find incredible loot, and uncover the secrets of the cataclysm. We are playing in foundry vtt in Pathfinder 2, and are primarily a USA and European based server using the free archetype, and proficiency without level variant rules. If you want to know more about the world, you can check out our wiki: https://wiki.indiactive.net/index.php/Main_Page Or head straight to the discord: https://discord.gg/kelek to get right into the action! Feel free to direct message me, as I am one of the gm's for the server, and can answer any more questions you have before joining if you're anxious or worried in anyway. We try to make the experience as comfortable as possible, so please feel free to reach out about any accommodations you would need as well.

As our campaign is heading into the final boss fight, I am dealing with it by designing a bunch of outfits for my next character, which she might not even wear because she might end up armored. She's starting with just the feathers but I plan on adding a lot more fucked up aasimar quirks as she levels

As someone who constantly grinds in video games to be stupidly overpowered before facing anything even remotely dangerous
I really hate playing low level characters in ttrpgs. Like if I'm not level 5 within a few sessions of starting I start getting restless.
I played one charter every week for a year and we only got to level 9 and that was disappointing af.

(for the ask meme:) play test, and give me your build. hard mode: what would you multiclass with if you had to?
Playtest: What class (or subclass) do you want to try out?
This almost feels like cheating but Calec is an entire build complete with multiclass that I’ve never played but am screaming to.
So, the gist of the build is strength based Heavy Armour fighter with battlefield control via reach and movement speed, with barbarian dedication feats. Keep in mind that it’s Pathfinder 2e, not D&D 5e so this’ll probably be nonsense to a lot of you who follow me lmao
(It’s under the cut, cause I got wordy)
He starts as a tiefling fighter with a hoof attack and fauchard (10ft reach, sweep and trip) and Sudden Charge which gives him 2 movements and an attack for 2 actions, which he will use at the start of combat in combo with the rage he gets from barbarian at level 2 (our GM uses the Free Archetype rule and it’s awesome). For Barbarian Instinct he takes Giant which will allow him to wield a Large weapon for an extra 5ft reach (now 15ft) plus increasing his rage bonus to damage to +6. (At the cost of being clumsy but his bulwark armour shores up his dex save and gives good AC so it’s a trade off)
He’ll also be taking Intimidating Strike which applies frightened on a successful hit, and later Shatter Defenses which causes a frightened target to become flat footed further decreasing AC. He’ll take Lunge, too, granting another 5ft reach when he uses it (becoming 20ft of reach) plus Fleet and Nimble Hooves to bring his speed to 30ft, negating the speed penalty for heavy armour and giving him 5 more feet. The barbarian feat Fast Movement gives him 10ft bonus to speed while he’s raging (becoming 40ft) and Blind Fight lets him fight creatures that are hidden to him. At level 9 he grows wings for 10 minutes a day giving him a fly speed equal to his land speed. (They become permanent at level 17)
This means that by level 9 he will have 30ft land speed and 30ft fly speed 10 minutes a day (40 for both when raging), and the ability to hit and trip or frighten enemies 15ft away (or simply hit 20ft away if lunging), paired with AoO and the feat No Escape, which allows him to chase any enemy that tries to leave his reach up to his movement speed, practically nowhere is safe from him. With a +1 Striking weapon and 4 in STR he rolls +20 to hit and with most enemy AC at that level being around 27/28 his chances are good. Especially with Frightened and Flat-footed bringing those numbers down to 24/25. His AC will be 26 while raging, but with 144hp and as much reach as he has that shouldn’t be a problem.
I’m still waffling on his skill feats but they’ll likely be heavily athletics and crafting focused… those are always harder for me to choose lol.
Thank you for letting me ramble on about this I love building characters so damn much!

Pathfinder 2 isn't DnD 5E
"Well duh," you think, reading the title. "That's why I've been trying to get my group to change to a different game. Pathfinder's so much more--" Stop. STOP.
I halfheartedly follow the pathfinder 2 reddit (half heartedly because I truly do not care about build templates and that is 90% of the reddit), and every so often there's a post about how an aspiring person just "can't get their group to switch." Or when people are talking about a problem with a dungeons and dragons game, some enterprising soul's suggestion is "Just switch to pathfinder."
It's really grating, having people hold Pathfinder up as some wonderful, fantastic system that will naturally solve every problem that a group is encountering. This is not true. Pathfinder is not a Better Version of 5E. Pathfinder is an entirely different game all together.
(The real reason to solve problems in ttrpgs is 99% talk like adults anyway. Switching system is very rarely the answer.)
The thing is, there are 2 types of ttrpg games. But both of them get shelved in the same place, so until you notice this, it can just feel like sometimes you find systems that are amazing and crunchy and perfect and the roleplaying is just right and your group is the best... and other times, you spend four hours bored while other poeple talk about things you can't bring yourself to care about.
Some TTRPG games are "A system of rules that guide you through making a story with your friends." FATE. Most PbtA systems. These are the games that are about roleplaying rather than skill-checks and rolling dice. They tend to be conversations between the players rather than any hard rulings by the system. The goal is to tell a story together. There are no win conditions, except possibly Everyone Is Having Fun.
Other TTRPG games are "A game where you play as a group of X with your friends." These are dungeon crawlers. Pathfinder 2. Dnd 4E. I'd even count certain styles of wargames here. These are the games with rules for everything. The ones where you could probably put everything into a computer and it would semi-work. Traditional Dungeon Master VS player games are best fitted for this kind of game. There is a win condition here, because it's a game, that doesn't exist in story-telling games. The win-condition is Getting to Be A Party Of Heros That Save the World.
The thing about 5e, is that it's straddling both of these styles of gameplay, and like most things trying to do two things, it does both of them not as well as a system that only focuses on one syle of playing. That's why 5E has weird cases where it's "The GM rules" because the storytelling system wants to have a conversation between players. (Yes, a GM is also a player. Just one who plays a world rather than a person.) It's why 5E has weird cases where it has CR types and lists of weapons tables. Because the game where you play... needs to have things more clearly defined.
Where 5E shines is when you want a game that's SOMETIMES a storytelling system with your friends, and SOMETIMES what you really want to do is go down into a cave and loot everything in it. Or where you have a group where half are roleplayers, and the other half are explorers. It's a compromise game, or a versatile game. And for all it's sins, it's one that works.
Neither of these playstyles is wrong.
Neither of these playstyles is right either.
But it is why when you keep trying to get your group to play Pathfinder and the reception is lukewarm to cold. Because you're trying to get them to play a game where you play as a group of archetypal heroes, and what they want to do is see how fast they can make someone else cry with their monk's tragic childhood.

Ugh.
On top of playing Pathfinder2e (which I've accepted and mostly gotten over), there has been a another decision I'm salty about.
So I decided to open up Pathbuilder and make my character.
I'd decided on a Halfling Witch with the Mosquito Witch Patron. I paid the $5 so I could edit my familiar (Goliath Beetle), asked for a name (Tim), and created Luna Thornbrush on HeroForge.
Tumblr media
All this took.....a few hours.
Only once I was done was I told we were restricting options to the books we had physically available between us.
Guess what's not in any of the books available between us?
The fucking Mosquito Witch patron. Which is the whole point of this character.
So that got scrapped and now I'm making a Ranger. And I'm salty about it.
I mentioned this witch bitch DAYS ago. Really wish literally anyone had informed me that we'd be limiting resources before I basically wasted an entire night making a character I'll never use for a game system I don't even like.
Honestly I'm only still participating bc these are my friends and this is the only time I get to see them and if I don't play this game with them then I just won't be playing at all with anyone or able to spend time with them.

Guessing Dungeon Meshi character classes, just for fun! Marcille is obviously a wizard, and Chilchuck is a rogue. Senshi seems to be a fighter with one (1) level in ranger, favored terrain: dungeon. Falin functions as a cleric, but in a system without divine patrons.
Laios..... Laios is a paladin, but he's a pathfinder paladin. A tank with some limited healing capability. All his points slam dunked into animal handling to compensate for his charisma modifier.
