cabin ten curse 👀

YEAHHH!!!!

The curse of Cabin Ten, as opposed to Cabin Seven, affects all of them. It was a curse inflicted by Nemesis when she got tired of Aphrodite flaunting her love life, how many people she'd gotten to fall in love with her, a trait her children shared, so she cursed the cabin.

In The Lost Hero, we learn about the Aphrodite Rite of Passage.

“The rite of passage for an Aphrodite child,” one explained. “You get someone to fall in love with you. Then you break their heart. Dump them. Once you do that, you’ve proven yourself worthy of Aphrodite.”

Playing on the Rite of Passage, if a child of Aphrodite has someone fall in love with them and then doesn't break their heart, that person will die.

Take Charles Beckendorf for example, we're told that Silena refused to complete the Rite of Passage.

“Forget it!” Piper yelled, a little louder than she’d intended. The other kids backed away. “I’m not breaking somebody’s heart just for a stupid rite of passage!” Which of course gave Drew a chance to take back control. “Well, there you go!” she cut in. “Silena said the same thing. She broke the tradition, fell in love with that Beckendorf boy, and stayed in love. If you ask me, that’s why things ended tragically for her.”

And Beckendorf died. So did Silena, but her death doesn't play into the curse.

We could also tie in Piper and Jason, although Jason died after Piper broke up with him. But the key part of their break up? Piper didn't break up with him for the Rite of Passage, therefore she never completed it.

Also, if a curse is cast a while ago, the exact way it affects the cabin may get lost in translation. In canon the Rite of Passage is to make someone fall in love with you and break their heart, but if we tie in Jason and Piper, we can twist the curse into having to break the heart of someone you've fallen in love with or else they die.

Silena was in love with Charles, she didn't break his heart, he died. Piper was in love with Jason, she didn't break up with him with the intention to break his heart, he died.

This could also explain why Drew is so adamant about her siblings completing the Rite of Passage, no? We don't know how long she's been at camp, but if shes the oldest after Silena we can figure shes been there a decent amount of time, watched sibling after sibling lose and grieve their partner because they didn't complete the passage.

Five things I like about myself:

❤️ My writing. The way I write. The fact I can take vibes and turn them into something that makes people feel things and connects me to people in a way I find virtually impossible in real life. It means everything to me.

🧡 My eyes. I have heterochromia, and my eyes are technically hazel but have jagged rings, like a tree, of brown and green, and in the sunshine they can look almost yellow. I used to hate them but now I think they're rather beautiful.

🩵 My tenacity. I chose the handle phoenixrose when I was fourteen or so, and I had no idea how self fulfilling that would end up becoming - my life has gone up in flames again and again, and every time I rise from the ashes, screaming and burning but full of determination not to stay down. Having children helped a lot with this, I found a lot of strength when I realised I had other lives to protect and not just my own.

🩷 My kindness. I go back and forth over whether or not I like this about me, because at times I have been taken advantage of, but I think it actually takes great strength to remain soft, and warm, and compassionate, in a world as cruel as this one. And I remain convinced that if everyone tried a little harder to be kind than to be right, the world would be a much better place.

💜 My neurodivergence and my queerness. I've always been different, seen the world differently, and loved that about myself, and that will never change no matter what anybody else thinks. I embrace who I am wholeheartedly.

Like I said in a previous post : If does not go against the law and does not hurt anyone, then you can do what you want and be how you wanna be. If I meet someone who is, for lack of a better example, catgender and who uses cat/catself pronouns, I'm gonna treat cat as an equal and as a potential friend, nothing less.

My mom. Because I miss her. And it’s the only way I could have her back and safe from my dad. She could see that we’re both safe now. I know it would make her happy. And I know she’s be overjoyed to know Aaron and I are still together. Well, provided he doesn’t leave me for the whole Luka mess. She’s definitely chew me out for that one; I deserve it, though. And maybe if she came back as a ghost, she could stay for the rest of my life.

👓 What helps you focus when you write?

Thanks for the ask! My focus process is all about minimizing the potential for distraction while also working within the mood/theme/characters I'm working with in my writing. It might not work for everyone, but here's a bit of what I do!

Music and headphones absolutely helps me get in the right vibe for writing to tune out any sound distractions. Usually soundtracky/instrumental stuff because anything with lyrics will throw off any groove I'm hoping to achieve.

If I'm having squirrel brain where I'm flitting between 45 browser tabs and discord, I'll use either Scrivener or FocusWriter to minimize distractions, depending on how squirrel brained I am. I love Scrivener, but FocusWriter does everything it can to minimize any sort of distraction by being incredibly minimalist in its UI and taking up your entire screen. However, its functionality is also minimal compared to Scrivener, and that's why I save it for the ultimate squirrel brained nights.

My phone will also go on DND mode and placed under a pillow until I've gotten my fill of writing for the evening because I cannot be trusted to not just play on discord or scroll tumblr while writing.

I can’t remember what chapter it was but it is the one where Solomon gets the brothers + MC to try his food and asks how it is. It would also be funny if MC has never sworn before as well, until she tells Solomon how bad his food is. and without hesitation either.

The curse of the apollo cabin I want details, seriously it sounds too great to.

YEAHHHH!!!! everyone talks about the Cabin Nine curse but I like to think about the cabins I think were actually cursed by a god; Cabin Seven and Cabin Ten >:D

Cabin Ten is for another time so lets talk ab Cabin Seven!!

The reason for the curse is shaky, I like to think it came from Hades, perhaps over the Oracle and Maria. Maybe Apollo brings up the curse on his Oracle, gets into an argument with Hades that ends with the Apollo Cabin getting cursed. Hades couldn't hurt Apollo, but he could hurt his children!

What is the curse, exactly? It's against the Head Counselor of the Cabin! Specifically, the counselor is destined to die, no matter what they do, no matter how safe they are. They will die. It becomes more prominent during the Titan War with Lee Fletcher and Michael Yew dying just shy of a year apart, but nobody thinks anything of it. Its a war, people are bound to die, right?

If we wanna look at it as a curse in the same strand of the oracle, it could be lifted after Nico is accepted into camp, no longer ostracized.

To add some ✨ spice ✨ I have four head counselors before canon who died/went missing because of the curse >:D

Cecilia Ford, the Counselor ~1992-1996, she was seventeen when she died as a result of a plague that broke out in camp :) also wiped out the entire cabin but we don't talk ab that

Lilian Gray, the Counselor ~1998-2000, she was eighteen when she died during the final chariot race. The Apollo cabin mentions the last time they held the races resulted in three deaths, making it likely that at lest one of them was around for said chariot race. She was the fighter for her team, when she got thrown off her chariot she stabbed herself with her own arrow :)

Riley Wilson, the Counselor ~2000-2001, she was sixteen when she went missing during Capture the Flag alongside another camper. Nobody knows what happened to them (they stumbled across the Myrmekes hill)

Kyrene Dawson, the counselor ~2001-2004, she was twenty when she died during a hellhound attack. She was the first counselor in a while who actually managed to leave camp and died a few months after

also the irony of the current counselors bfs dad having cursed his cabin and technically being the cause of countless of his sibs death :D

I saw an interesting post a while back that said “Capcom made us [Miles and Diego/Godot] only have like two(?) interactions because they knew we would be unstoppable with a brother dynamic” and tbh it stuck with me bc it was intriguing.

So yeah that potential brotherhood, but that Godot/Diego AU I made (that I still need a name for)

Also I bet Gregory Edgeworth would have smelled like a bit like coffee, and so Diego just reminds Miles of that comforting presence 😭 (the von Karma estate was a tea household, so he didn’t smell much coffee after DL-6 and didn’t realize how much he missed it/reminded him of his father)
