Jungle filled with conures. This was an assignment from college and one of the first pieces I made using the technique of scanning my pencil illustrations and coloring them without any inks. I drew a lot of birds at Ringling.
I let him stay inside his cage for the rest of the day after bringing him home so he could just see everything in the safety of a cage with food, water and toys, but something tells me he did NOT need "quiet time". He wanted OUT. He wanted to explore the whole room, say proper hello to the other birds and get to know me.
I was super tempted to bring Beetlejuice out - he even tried to escape. He was walking around the bottom of his cage, peeking between the bars - but I did the safe thing which was leaving him inside while the others has out time and could go and say hello to him in his cage when they were comfortable doing so.
Once the birds were inside for nighttime, I brought Beetlejuice out. I showed him around the room, let him see the other birds in their cages, just to let him see everything a little bitter before going to sleep. Let me tell you, he did NOT want to go back in his cage. He legit walked up my arm to get away from the perch. He was super tired right before I brought him out, but he was wide awake after just that 1 minute of stimulation 馃槀
He whined a bit when I turned off the lights, but just for a moment. I'm sure he's going to be sleeping very well. Today was a big day for all of us 馃グ
