“yeah, baby?” he replied. he pulled a container of leftover rice from dinner the night before out of the fridge.

“will you let me ask you something and not give me shit for it?” you asked. scents of onion, garlic, and pepper permeated the air as you stirred the pan before you.

ken grinned. “maybe. is it somethin’ i should give you shit for?”

you smiled in return. “maybe, but….”

“but…?” his smile softened. he set his hands on your shoulders behind you as you worked.

“i’m asking you not to. just this once,” you replied. “please.”

a silence filled the room. ken’s brow furrowed.

“alright. what is it?” he said.

you hesitated, keeping your eyes on the stove in front of you as a distraction.

“can i call you daddy?” you said softly.

ken stood still. “what?” his tone was biting when he spoke.

“sorry, that was stupid, i-” you replied, pulling away to busy your hands further with anything not near him.

“no. look at me.” he said firmly. ken stepped over to where you were and turned you around by the hips. “did i fucking hear you right?”

you looked up, eyes wide, his onyx gaze now a little softer though his brow stayed furrowed.

“i don’t know, did you?” you reply. “if i’m gonna piss you off, we’re not talking about it.”

his hands held tight as you tried to escape his grasp, pushing on his stomach.

“i’m not -” he sighed. “ask me again. i’ll be nice. i promise,” he said softly.

the sound of food sizzling on the stove behind you somehow lessened the tension in the room.

“can i call you daddy?” you repeated. “just like… in general?” it felt embarrassing, the way your tummy flipped and your mouth went dry trying to get the words out. you chewed on your lip waiting for his reply.

“you're serious? you mean that?” he said. his expression was difficult to read, but his eyes flickered down to your lips and back up.

you nodded in reply.

a small laugh left his lips. he leaned down towards you. “yeah. i thought you'd never ask.”

Saw the “Chara Week” art week idea proposed a couple weeks ago and Chara Dreemurr is the only character that my executive dysfunction ridden brain can make the exception of allowing me to draw fanart of, so I decided to seize the opportunity.

I was going to try at some rendering stuff but just getting this flat-color drawing alone done took me like 3 and a half hours so I decided to call it there. But I think I did at least okay for the first finished digital art I’ve done in like, a year.

#random personal stuff #personal whining ahead feel free to ignore #I have come to a conclusion #the next time I get another printed email with written instructions shoved at me #I am going to tell this man point-blank to forward me the original email with any additional information #and politely insist that these communications happen through email not paper #I don't think that's unreasonable #it is better for record-keeping that all of these communications take place through email #it's less wasteful of paper #I am not asking for complex monumental effort or even any extra effort at all #it is 2024 we have been using email at work for decades and surely emailing someone is not an impossible task #actually probably less time-consuming than printing emails and writing on them #if he can communicate through email with the professors making the requests and with our boss who is out this week he can email me too #and if he gets huffy about it and acts like I'm being unreasonable like he did last time I asked for a change #(i.e. please turn down your volume) #then that's on him #maybe I'm allowed to have reasonable expectations in this office too #(as I was typing this he shoved into my mailbox a printout of a record of a book he wants me to delete or something *sigh*) #(I'll build up to that but for now I'm starting with standing my ground on emails about book orders)

ZUTARA WEEK 2021 (Catch-up), Day One: Hair

NOTE: So back in 2021, I missed Zutara Week. That was the only time I had ever not written for Zutara Week during the actual year. The only other time I wasn’t able to post on the actual dates was back in 2012 but I still managed to post stuff within the same year. But 2021 was a challenging year for me and I could not write as much as I used to.

I managed to bounce back in 2022 and 2023 but it bothered me to have a gap in my Zutara Week entries. And the 2021 prompts were really good too! 

I’ve been making up for what I missed in 2021 in terms of fanfiction writing so I decided to power through with my 2021 Zutara Week one-shots this year and I’ve chosen the dates that lead up to the premiere of the live-action series on February 22.

I’m pretty sure I will have a lot of thoughts and feelings about that new iteration of the show so I wanted to get these pieces out before then, so as not to mix any 2024 Zutara thoughts with 2021 ideas, if that makes any sense. All that and also to give myself a firm deadline since I’ve found that this is the effective way to help me get things done.

#well i had the worst week of my year so far and it’s only january #i think i cried more in the last few days than i have in the last couple of years #so uh that’s something #new manager has completely ignored my availability and just scheduled me fucking whenever #had a regular who’s usually very nice yell at me over something he KNOWS is completely out of my control #he sort of apologized the next day but what the fuck #i was supposed to get a call sometime this week from the doctor’s office i’ve been referred to #for what should be a very basic procedure #which i was hoping would get done before i leave for Kä summer camp in June #ofc they didn’t call and now i have to bother my regular doctor again #and it probably won’t happen in time because healthcare in this province is a fucking joke #i slipped on black ice riding my bike to work and bashed my shin so hard i can only partially kneel down #and after specifically asking my mom to please not do A Thing for x number of reasons #she ofc went and did The Thing #because god forbid i have some fucking boundaries #also several other things but it’s too much to get into #i just need to vent

FINALLY! At long last! The completion of a very old idea from 2015. Based off a short story I wrote for a class in college.

Summary: Ameru and his friends are children who live in the Obakeyashi, a said to be haunted house that no one goes near. After being found by Seikai, their everyday lives are merry and full of interesting adventures.  

Originally, the characters were named after seasons (Tokino, Akita, Natsune, Harumi) to match when they were born, but I’ve changed them since the original idea. Their designs have also changed a lot! I decided to use Novel Writing November to finally complete this animation, as I’ve left the Obakeyashi basically collecting dust.
