im very interested in your dnd oc Rhiam, i think its really cool and rarely done to have a trans character actually transition during the course of the game, was it always your intention for her to be trans or did this evolve naturally in the campaign? also i love her design especially the colour pallete with the earthy tones and rich blue accent colours <3

Hi! And thank you because ough I also love Rhiam so much even if (and because) she's my own character 🧡

Rhiam is one of those characters that just starts to live a life of its own, you know? I can plan things for her but some things just feel right or wrong. Because at the beginning I was thinking that "now for a change I'll make a dude character, just a regular humble lad". I think I even said something like that out loud to our DM haha, so it was not planned from the start.

What I did plan quite from the beginning was that Rhiam, coming from the huble countryside, was determined to start a new and less dull life in the city. She wanted to become a proper mage and actually do something with her magic. I think her original plan was to try to become a performer (though she noticed that performing magic tricks to strangers rather than your own siblings is slightly more daunting). So while I didn't know everything about her, I did know that she desired to be something else than a farmer boy. And I knew that she desired to have earrings and jewelry and beautiful outfits. Then at some point we thought with our DM that hmm maybe there's something else besides just not wanting to be a farmer, maybe she desires not to be a boy as well. But yeah, we have also tought that it's funky that it happened gradually and during game like this. I think we got to have conversations and themes we wouldn't have had if I had just made her trans from the start (not that there wouldn't have been anything wrong with that but yeah, this was interesting!) Especially since our group really likes to take time to dwell in little moments and details (for real, our average game session spans over a weekend and lasts mmm around 18-24h in total? with pauses of course) Her final transformation (heh) also happened in a neat transitioning phase as they are currently in a mountain pass between two countries.

Oh and speaking of transformation, I also gave Rhiam alter self spell that she used to try what it would be like to be a girl/woman. And since I have actually made short poems for her every verbal component spell, I used lines that referred to our D&D world's shapeshifting god of the forests Iija Iki-Mettä and asked aid from her. And eventually Iija invited Rhiam to her sacred pond and transed her gender more permanently than what Rhiam alone could do. So I'm now multiclassing her as druid. Another thing I said I wouldn't do since I wanted to try some other class than druid for a change. "This time I will do a man guy boy who is not a druid" I said. "Congrats lil buddy that's the worst anyone's ever done it" I say to myself now (and wouldn't have it any other way <3).

lol anyway here’s what I came up with!! would love to hear others’ thoughts on this!! my personal character interpretations are very book heavy with cherry-picked movie influences and a respectable scoop of fanon interpretations I like lol so I think there’s a lot of options here and I think it would be so fun to hear other people’s interpretations of this!!

bill: oath of vengeance paladin whose god is maturin. his favorite spell is compelled duel. no further elaboration needed.

mike: farm boy mike made me consider druid or ranger, but I think his motivations are very strong around maintaining derry’s history, and he’s incredibly dedicated to that, so I think knowledge domain cleric makes most sense to me (his god is also maturin, bike maturin acolyte boyfriends so real <3 )

ben: book ben is soooo fighter. that man threw back an insane amount of alcohol, went back to derry no question, stomped on some alien eggs, and took decades to confess to a cute, corny little 3 line love poem, then respectfully swept his childhood love off her feet. that’s just so fighter to me. like there is nothing more Fighter than starting your story alone in a tavern venting vaguely about your past heroic exploits to the bartender. fighter for sure with some significant levels in artificer for his architecture career

stan: wizardddddd he literally escapes pennywise with the powers of his bird watching guidebook!!!! literally got magic powers from a book in canon!!!!! also he's very happy being an accountant and i feel like math and desk jobs feel very wizard to me lol. also it would be so interesting to explore his feelings about being able to shape reality when he's so attached to maintaining reality. but. he literally changed reality with his book like!!!! so much to think about here.

bev: i kinda want bev to be a rogue, but i think that's just what she initially tries to be. she wants to fly under the radar so bad but she never can. honestly i think she's a barbarian!! it's what she deserves!!! 2017 babygirl kills her dad by bashing him over the head with a toilet cover!!! that's some barbarian shit she has so much anger and rage that she deserves to let out!!!!! also her premonitions about It coming back? danger sense. decades in advance danger sense lmao

eddie: listen. i considered rogue. killing your childhood bully with a broken perrier bottle is some rogue shit. i also considered monk, bc our boy loves to go fast!! but i think the most fitting class for him is ranger. his "super power" is always knowing where to go and where he is. he uses it in the sewers, he uses it to drive around new york city better than anyone else. knowing your terrain that effortlessly is some ranger shit. also he's happiest just chilling on a grassy hill or hanging out in the barrens!! nature baby boy!! also rangers can be a dex class so it still works for him wanting to run and run and run

richie: okay i spent way too much time thinking about richie's bc he's my favorite <3 lol so this is gonna be long. listen we all have biases okay. anyways he's obviously a bard like hello he can change his voice and convince people he's someone else. basically literally casts silvery barbs in book canon. constantly performing. described as having "exhausting charm." support class 100%, while everyone leans on bill he's the one bill leans on. favorite spell is disguise self bc he wants so badly to be someone else. but i don't think he's just a bard. i think he pretends to be just a bard, but such a big part of richie's character is being afraid of things inside himself that he'd like to ignore but can't control. It shows him a werewolf with his name on it which yeah I'm very pro bisexual interpretation of that but more generally is just about feeling like he's got smth uncontrollable and scary that he doesn't understand within him. all of which screams wild magic sorcerer!! so i think he's a wild magic sorcerer who learns bard stuff so he can pretend he's only a bard bc he's scared of his natural magic

💥find your least kudos'd fic - say something wonderful about it.

Excluding the fics from the fandom of my dnd campaign, my least kudos'd fic is my most recent RNM one, Stone by Stone, which was kind of an experimental freestyle poem written in Alex's second-person POV about his relationship with Michael. I only got season 1 done, though in the future i may go back and add chapters for the rest of the series.

The wonderful thing about it, as with the first thing I wrote in the RNM fandom, was that after a long dry spell of writing, the idea hit me like a ton of bricks and would not leave me alone until I wrote it. It was fun and interesting to write and I really loved doing it. I don't post poetry a lot just because I am really nervous about sharing my poetry, and I loathe second person POV in general, so it was such an interesting way to be inspired and it was a fun writing experiment to complete.

Sorry for not following up immediately on the DND question. The one recently drawn by rerenah and with a flourish in the hat.

oh, Arcadia!! OKAY SO she's my first DND character that actually went through a whole campaign from start to finish, so I had the time to flesh her out a bit more

also this got super long so, under the cut

She's an half-elf, chaotic good bard with really bad luck when rolling for stealth actions (literally the first fight we had I managed to roll a 1 and ruined the stealth attack for everyone and immediately after I got a nat20 and critted an enemy to death)

She was raised by her human dad in a port city and has almost no memory of her mom who basically just left for no reason; she does use her mom's lyre tho, because musical instruments are expensive and elfic ones are hard to come by in a mostly-human city. She left her hometown to become the apprentice of a gnome mage along with what becomes the rest of the party for the story

Main fighting tactics during the campaign were 1) lie to the government 2) if you can't talk to the enemies, put them to sleep and let the orc and paladin of the party decapitate the monsters 3) if that doesnt work, pull out the sword or bow and disregard your personal safety

though some notable fighting moments were when she enchanted the captain of what was basically the royal army and made him laugh so hard he stopped beating one of her teammates to death / when she almost convinced the final boss dragon to fly to the opposite side of the country so the party would be able to finish the quest without getting turnt into french fries - this was before the half-orc teammate freaked out about how dangerously close she was to the dragon and snatched her up like a potato sack and ran away to safety (leaving the rest of the party behind to fight a whole ass dragon) (tho to be fair, we had to go and rescue a princess so)

there was like,,, a trend at the start of the campaign where she almost died twice so the entire party started looking out for her, especially the ranger, he'd send his wolf after Arcadia to make sure she was okay or had some help, so at the end of the campaign the wolf Churro and Arcadia had a really strong friendship :]

during the campaign she also got adopted by a powerful elf witch that lives in a swamp filled with illusions - basically Arcadia was lured to her house by an illusion that looked like her mom, and wanting to ask a thousand question she ignored the party and disappeared in the mist just to end up with this strange lady (along with the wolf that was sent to track her down but left the ENTIRE party behind so fsnds that was fun)

anyway, they spent alone a lot of time and Arcadia was really interested in her because she was also the same witch of a legend - bard insticts prevailed and she wanted to know EVERYTHING; once the entire party reunited and the witch Cassandra helped them out and gave them some more info for the quest, Arcadia gifted her a short poem she wrote during the night and in exchange the witch gave her a necklace; it was all really sweet and touching because Arcadia promised to visit her again and that she'd bring stories about the outside world and stuff, Cassandra referred to her as the daughter she never had, and then the rest of the party was like 👀 we want gifts/food too and it was ruinedhfdn

oh also it's noteworthy to mention that she didn't flirt with anyone -LITERALLY ANYONE- in the whole campaign, except for the tall, dark elf that was also the captain of the paladins/royal guards I mentioned earlier - and the moment he said a racist thing about her teammates she was ready to throw down; so basically the only moment the bard of the party tried to flirt with someone she managed to find The Asshole; that didn't stop the party from trying to convince her to flirt with the guy tho

anyway the second time they met him the dude had basically stalked them to the location of one of the quest items, one of his men had killed the butler of one of the party member's family and he STILL tried to reason with Arcadia before the party collectively lost their shit and started attacking the paladins - and that's how Captain Charming got hit by a laughter spell, tied up and left in a crypt with the rest of his beaten up/sleeping friends

we never really cleared up on what happened after the campaign was over but imo Arcadia kept her promise to Cassandra (the witch) and went back to visit her while also traveling with her party members whenever they were up to do something wacky or just traveling by her lonesome because that's what celebrity bards to babey

MY LITTLE GUYYUYUYUYUY............. OHHHHKAY here’s the ultimate Beja thought ramble under the cut

THIS POST IS SUPER LONG OH M Y GOD.. OH YMG OD ENJOY ENJOY!!!!!!!!!

BEJA WAS MY VERY FIRST DND CHARACTER!!!!! The dm had years of experience and was really excited at my idea that beja be half-orc, half-tiefling, and let me play him with my choice of stat increases + tiefling race bonuses!! so i think he had +2 charisma and +1 constitution instead of the usual intelligence.

Beja’s backstory is very bleak and with (seemingly) few strings attached to it... he’s an orphan, or was abandoned, and was raised as a street kid in a small town and grew up into a life of odd jobs and eventually some underground involvement.. mostly a courier or small goods smuggler, and he did ok at it! he was very good at keeping his head down and was happy to travel without the pressure of leaving anyone behind. loner king

eventuallyyy a local gang/cult gave him a fake job which lead to him being abducted and forced into an experimental pact ritual, like a guinea pig for something long forgotten and newly rediscovered. the cultists didn’t care whether he lived or died, only that a connection with their forgotten god would be made. SURPRISE! the pact worked! and beja became sworn to an entity his mind could barely grasp the introduction to! he lashed out in panic with his newfound powers and killed most of his captors, and fled the town with nothing but the clothes on his back!!

his backstory from that point is that he lived a very paranoid and mobile life alone, never staying too long in any town or city for fear that the cult might find him and force him into some kind of service. his pact (with Tharizdun, unbeknownst to him o///o) made him irritable and outright antisocial, giving him nightmares and auditory hallucinations on his bad days. paired with his rough upbringing he found himself unopposed to committing petty crime but he still tried to keep a sense of normalcy by working odd jobs where he could find them, usually at inns or stables or campuses. keeping his hands busy = good for brain!!!

he got very very good at eavesdropping and people watching and kept a firm hold of any rumor threads that he thought might be connected to the cult, in the hopes he might one day catch a member unawares and get answers about his unknown patron and the pact he finds himself in. he’s in survival mode for a good long while here!!!!

and then one day he meets @gacpars OC, Rhagot :’~) he’s a wonderfully fascinating character and I don’t want to describe him poorly so IN BRIEF... the 2 meet by chance before having to part ways, but that time is enough for Beja to get a taste of. gentle curiosity (MUTUAL), interest (NON-THREATENING, ALSO MUTUAL), and. COMPANY!!!!!! and Rhagot is like “ok youre my soul mate. here have this braided silver ring” (their relationship is a whole other essay and i want to draw more of them bc they make my heart and brain ache in a good way)

circumstances cause them to part ways and Beja finds himself travelling with an adventuring party! CAMPAIGN START! long story short turns out the cult is a lot more insidiously widespread and in the years since lil ol Beja’s forced ritual, the cult has been swearing their own members into Tharizdun’s service (voluntary <3) and ummmm growing their power and sacrificing people to him, blood for the blood god etc etc.

he has a really interesting arc here!!! he’s TERRIFIED of the power his pact grants him, both in the sense that he has NO desire to draw power from the forgotten chained god of chaos? death? nothingness? AND that as he gets stronger, his appearance and habits become more monstrous and less predictable. BUT he’s better able to protect those he calls friends. its a very fine line for him and he kills some folks as one does in an edgy blood apocalypse DND campaign, steals some relics, threatens some cultists, writes some poems, etc. He has a very weird Frodo-and-Smeagol type relationship with his familiar (pact of the chaaaiinnnn), a quasit that later grows into a spined devil, because he sees himself in it. a creature bound to serve something it had no choice in! they get along (strained). I am very in love w the irony of him being his most vulnerable (emotionally/morally) at his most powerful (stacking all those Great Old One eldritch invocations babey)

eventually his impulses push him to attune to one of the relics he steals (a very shiny rod of the pact keeper. sobs i wanted +3 spell damage i wanted it so fucking bad) and he gets CURRRRRSSEED!!!!!!!!!!! A SUPER POWERFUL CURSE that our cleric didn’t have high enough spell slots to lift. it was an exhaustion curse and he got like four days into it until the cleric tried a slightly homebrewed Divine Intervention/Wish spell combo to “cure him of all curses that afflict him”

and well! because he’s seen his pact as a curse since the first moment he was saddled with it! the pact is COMPLETELY SEVERED as the other curse is lifted. HE IS FREE!!! and he leans very hard into his hobby of poetry, and as they travel he re-learns spellcasting, and learns to play the hand harp, and apprentices with different travelling bards and tavern-buskers until the DM let me call him a bard of the college of valor!!! filling the void left by his patron with art and song...

soooon after that the campaign ended up disbanding u__u BUT beja left the party to be alone once more, travelling until he one day reunites with and marries Rhagot. they RETIRE into DOMESTIC BLISS in a SMALL VILLAGE where they teach each other PEACE!!!!! oh my god i need to draw them more.

okay here’s more about the tos crew playing dnd au/hc/whatever

mccoy: dungeon master. grumpy old fuck, perfect for keeping players in line and not taking any bullshit. also creative and funny and would think of interesting storylines.

kirk: human paladin (oath of devotion). really loves the roleplay aspects and REALLY gets into character. always talks about how he can’t break his oath. tries to talk his way out of situations but it usually doesn’t work and he ends up getting hit, but that’s okay because his character can put up a good fight. also keeps flirting with npc’s but strikes out

spock: half-elf wizard (school of necromancy). spock originally didn’t want to play but jim convinced him saying it would help him understand human interactions and get to know his coworkers better. he also said that there was math and strategy involved which intrigued spock. spock picked a wizard because he admired how wizards gain magic from studying (nerd). he SAID he picked necromancy because it’s “an intriguing concept” but everyone knows it’s because he’s goth. he picked half-elf in an attempt to humor his human friends (it worked and they laughed). found the roleplaying difficult at first, but has gotten the hang of it now. his character keeps almost dying because wizards have shit health (bones teases him because a NECROMANCER almost DYING). also memorized the entire rules books and holds everyone to them. also helps everyone with Dice Math. also YES he has a familiar and YES it’s a black cat.

uhura: tiefling bard (college of creation). amazingly good at everything. good at roleplay, good at combat, and makes really good plans. usually suggests being The Distraction in whatever plan they do. about 80% of her rolls are Really High and bones keeps accusing her of cheating, but spock made some nearly-perfect balanced dice and she tried them out and rolled two 20’s and one 19, so basically everyone concluded that she’s just lucky. also flirts with all the npc’s but actually scores with them (unlike jim’s character). spock lends her his vulcan lyre so she can play music to sing along with. she also has a book of little poems she’s written (for bardic inspiration and spellcasting) but she can also come up with them on the fly pretty well.

sulu: human rogue (swashbuckler)/fighter (samurai) multi-class. LIVES for the fighting and also tries to show off and do cool flips whenever he can. has the highest kill count in the game and hasn’t yet been knocked unconscious. whenever the roleplay or the planning gets boring he’s just like “can i hit something now?” (the first time he said that, bones was like “ok” and had a dozen goblins ambush him, but sulu singlehandedly killed all of them. bones didn’t do that again.) also rolls his eyes when people ask for a rest. (it’s all just performance though, he actually likes the stories that bones makes and likes playing with everyone)

scott: rock gnome artificer (artillerist speciality). he keeps trying to make a phaser inside dnd, which is kinda(?) possible. he accidentally (“accidentally”?) makes a lot of things explode. his character always has some type of alcohol on him (scotty uses this as an excuse to bring alcohol to the sessions, bones usually doesn’t start drinking until someone does something dumb and scotty will slide him a glass). he’s usually with sulu on the “can we fight now?” train, but he has shed a tear or two when some genuinely touching roleplaying stuff happened.

chekov: satyr ranger (fey wanderer). his character’s feywild gift is “fresh, seasonal flowers sprout from your hair each dawn” because why the fuck not? his character is quite literally a party animal, but knows when it’s time for business (well, at least most of the time). chekov keeps pointing out random things and has his character say that it was “inwented in the feywild” (the first time he did that, bones stole scottys drink and drank like half of it). bones started calling chekov’s character “the kid” as a pun (“because satyr... goat... kid.... baby goat..?”) and no one laughed but then later on chekov made a joke and said “i’m just kidding” and everyone laughed (except bones [okay, and spock but you could tell he was amused that bones was mad]). chekovs character is not really “good” at too many things, but he keeps everyone laughing (or annoyed). chekov usually rolls pretty low and they’ve written it off in canon as his character being very clumsy. he’s often in need of saving from the other party members. the kid’s a pretty great shot tho

rand: human warlock (pact: the great old one). rand doesn’t play every session (she’s usually busy), but when she does it’s really fun for everyone. her character is really op and always bringing out some unexpected spell or feature or object. despite being a powerful and intimidating warlock her character appears very flamboyant and flouncy. her character is very nice but can also be very ferocious.

chapel: water genasi cleric (life domain). CONSTANTLY fixing people up. about half of the time, it’s spock and/or jims characters trying to save each other and she has to heal them (bones is like “now you see what I have to deal with”) and the majority of other times it’s chekovs character. her character is also the Mom Friend and helps all the other characters with their Issues (because they all have Tragic Backstories). Her character is the only one without a Tragic Backstory and her backstory is basically just “i wanted to heal people and make the world a better place :)”. she’s basically everyone’s favorite played character and she can Do No Wrong (even when she definitely does do something wrong).

-Their best friends are Mammon and Beel, since they are the first ones Nito got along with! They love to play fight with Mammon and secretly get involved with his hijinks and Beel is a giant teddy bear to them so they enjoy hugs and cuddling with him, lol. (This one time they freaked out so hard because Beel asked them to sit on his back when he was doing push ups; they felt they were gonna be too heavy until Beel practically launched them off his back lmao xD)

-They tend to listen to music from their D.D.D. and lay around in their room while doing so, enjoy writing mostly poems and small stories about their childhood or fantasy characters they made up (think a DnD campaign kind of story), and walk around the Devildom petting stray animals

-They have always wanted a pet but their apartment landlord wouldn't let them (low-key want to write a story about them finding a hellhound, but like the one from Castlevania; idk if you or anyone has seen that show, but there is a sorcerer who reanimates animals but they usually missing skin or eyes and stuff, so I was picturing a wolf like dog who is missing an eye but becomes their best friend. I got a whole story for this okay lolol;;)

-Random fact: They actually know how to sing, but are super embarrassed about singing in front of others (totally blows the brothers away at a karaoke outing!)

-Mostly any kind of rock style of music, but listens willing to almost anything!

-Okay, so they suffer from severe anxiety and stress induced attacks, so when they get super stressed out, they will lock themselves in their room and hide under a blanket, just either having music playing or have the TV on something mindless to distract their brain for a bit. (I do this with a weighted blanket, so I incorporated that into them as well!)

-The brothers and dateables:

Lucifer - Respects and kind of fears him at first; refers to him as Sir almost all the time, until they get a lot closer in the storyline. They try to avoid him because of how strict he is and automatically panics when he calls their name, lol

Mammon - Best friend!!!! Though at first found him to be an asshole with the whole "stupid human" thing. Would kinda cry when he would be mean to them; but he made up for it by protecting them and being a good friend despite his tsundere ways, lol. (Low-key ship them to an extent as well.)

Leviathan - Scary snake boi. They get intimidated by him and how angry he can get over things. Is trying to be his friend by learning more about the animes he likes and getting better at video games to be at least somewhat on par with him. When they do get close, will stay up all night with him and crash out in his tub bed.

Satan - Study partner. When they can't figure something out, they tend to shyly go ask for help once they get to know him better. Borrows books from him as well, and practices spells with him when he allows it, lol. Their shared love of cats has also brought them together!

Asmodeus - A flustered bean around this demon. They are not used to compliments AT ALL so they freak out when he pays them one and starts flirting with them. They have zero experience in flirting as well so usually ends up saying something weird and makes Asmo double over laughing. (Has a moment where they ask Asmo about adult shops in the Devildom, oof. Another story idea agdjkshsj)

Beelzebub - Cuddle buddy, but man were they terrified of him at the beginning. The whole 'I would totally eat a human' thing made them cower in fear before this giant of a demon; but once they realized how kind hearted he was, slowly started opening up to him. Has to really hide their snacks though because Beel WILL find them and WILL eat them.

Belphegor - Timeline differences. In the one story I have, he is kind of indifferent to Nito, and they don't really start talking until Nito becomes friends with Beel, and that kind of opens up Belphie into realizing they are a good person 'for a human' and they become buddies. I have more details but that's the gist of it.

With the actual Obey Me timeline, where he kills them, Nito refuses to have anything to do with him because of the fear of murdering them again. They go to drastic lengths to avoid him, even at RAD; it takes a toll on the brothers as well. But Mammon and Beel try to work with them to bring some kind of middle ground for them to work with and eventually lead to them having some kind of relationship.

Diavolo - The first demon they actually like right away. They understand the power that Dia holds, and how much the brothers respect him (even if some of that is forced by Lucifer), and they always refer to him as "My Lord" or "Lord Diavolo". Dia always greets them with a head pat as well, and they looooove it, lolol. Lucifer hates how chummy they get with Dia sometimes but eh, they have a friend in the Demon Prince.

Barbatos - Finds him freakishly mysterious but enjoys talking to him a lot. Becomes a part of the baking group with him and Luke as well, lol. Enjoys walking around the castle garden with him as well, just asking him questions or listening to him tell stories about the Devildom.

Simeon - Holy crap a real angel. Is hella shy around him for some reason but is willing to help him figure out his D.D.D. lmao. Enjoys having tea with him and Luke at Purgatory Hall, and often asks him questions about the Celestial Realm. (Learns they in fact do not like the CR because of how strict their rules are and how many restrictions they put on the angels.)

Luke - Little brother, must protect. Defends him when the demons pick on him, especially Lucifer. Gives him head pats even though he huffs about it, lol. Will always go with him when he is going to join Barb in baking.

Solomon - Finds him fascinating. They want to know more about him considering he is a human who has lived hundreds of years. Takes to him right away as a friend despite Lucifer's warning. Will even sneak out with him as well when he invites them places. (Also kind of a ship for them as well, but haven't fleshed it out too much, lol.)

Mike: Wizard, School of Divination -- he learned his magic by studying and learning from the nearby Natives, with a focus on what happened in the past and what may occur in the future.

Bill: Paladin, Oath of Redemption -- Vengeance was the obvious Oath, but Bill's arc is more about forgiving himself, letting go of the guilt for Georgie's death, than destroying Pennywise.

Eddie: Cleric, Blood Domain -- He understands injury and illness. When his own blood is spilt, he can regain power [spell slots] from the sacrifice. (Note: Strength Domain would be on-brand, but more about physical than inner-strength.)

Richie: Bard, College of Glamour / Barbarian -- He's all about the Performance, all the time, and an expert in redirection and hiding his true thoughts and intentions. Plus one level of Barbarian, just enough to Rage.

Ben: Bard, College of Lore -- He's always gathering stories and knowledge of the places he's in and has been. He uses these pieces of intel, and the occasional poem, to Inspire others.

Beverly: Barbarian, Path of the Berserker -- When pushed too far, there will be no person or door left standing.

What was the very first story you ever wrote?

Oh, man. Are we counting all the movie re-writes I did in my head as a kid? If no, then technically the first thing I ever wrote was a 1 stanza poem about flowers when I was like 4 or 5 years old. The first story that I can remember if probably the nonfiction account of my trip to the zoo when I was in 1st grade. My mom laminated it. If we’re talkin’ fiction, likely the teeny tiny book I made as a class project in 4th-ish grade. It was like 20 pages hand-written. I don’t even remember what it was about.

What does your ideal writing space look like?

A seat with good lumbar support and without arms because elbows are annoying, laptop at a comfortable height in front of me, and preferable a little bit of quiet. Or headphones for looping the same 3 songs over and over again.

How long do you give yourself to research for your WIP?

Zero minutes. Meaning that I Google as I go. And it’s usually to make sure I’m being accurate in my assumptions. Or I do it after the first draft/outline if it’s history-related. Makes it easier for me to see how the whole picture has to change.

What do you think is your greatest weakness as a writer?

Being very slow and having way too many ideas. It takes me forever to start writing because I give my brain a lot of time to work on plot threads and development things in the background. The longest that percolating has ever taken is a little over 2 months. Sometimes I get a little nervous that I won’t be able to properly convey what I’m feeling in my head to the reader, which puts me off of stories sometimes. But never for too long.

What do you think is your greatest strength?

Being able to tug on your heartstrings with the barest of prose. It’s my secret weapon.

Name one of your bad habits as a writer.

I have the self discipline of a Willy Wonka side character.

Where do you find inspiration for your OCs?

Never from just one place, that’s for sure. They usually come from the story, and by that I mean that I create characters based on what would work best in the story world I make up. For example: Iron Will. I had the idea of a hero who breaks the script and befriends a villain. Then I think backwards: what kind of hero would do that? What are they like? What happened to make them so willing to reach out to even the lowest of their supposed enemies?

And then Iron Will’s base motivations appeared, then I built the little things to support that drive. I try to make every aspect of my characters necessary, or meaningful to the story in some way. It’s the little things that make a character and a story come alive, especially when those little things come to mean big things when you stack ‘em all on top of each other.

What OC would like you the most? Out of all my OCs?

Of @purpleshadows1989‘s OCs, Astro. definitely. And I like him, too. If we’re talkin’ people, maybe Siobhan or Anna.

Of my OCs, Overseer or Mel. Maybe Jill.

What OC would like you the least?

Adrienne, both alive and ghost. 

Of mine, Lithium or Babylon, most likely. I’m in the middle of their extremes.

Name something you do that you think no other writer does.

I mean... I put a DnD spell in every single one of my academic papers senior year of college. Does that count? 

Have you ever done NaNoWriMo?

Yep. Once in high school, and then again during my thesis year. I made it two weeks the first go, then like, half a day the second. It doesn’t really mesh with my writing style or process, so my brain has trouble hanging on to NaNo.

Part of mes like “I don’t believe in an afterlife why would their be ghosts” and other part of me is like “boy have I seen some weird spooky ass shit I can’t explain” HOW ABOUT ALIENS? Oh Absolutely! Like, I know livable planets are rare but I have a hard time believing we are the only ones. I have a VERY easy time believing that their tech is comparable (or a little advanced or in the dark ages) compared to ours and that they also don’t know how to communicate beyond the barrier of distance. It really really depends on the situation. If someone is/has taken advantage of me I tend to be ruthless and not give second chances- wont trust or give them the light of day. If the wrong is.... well a lot of people wrong others in a moment of spite or by accident and I’m a lot more willing to let that go. I’ve said things bc I was in a nasty mood that I shouldn’t have. I get it. If they apologize I’ll move on. 

IN A RELATIONSHIP? Not currently. : O Oklahoma isn’t a good place to find dnd loving lesbians. Go figure.  Maybe luck will come my way tho. Im patient. ovo

slowly handling shit: part 19

preface: i have gotten one major spoiler through an ao3 notification email. who titles their chapter as a spoiler. why would you do that. reminded me of getting all of kill la kill spoiled for me in a youtube thumbnail. at least it wouldn’t’ve mattered anyhow as the very next morning i overheard a guy spoiling endgame for his friend, who fortunately had already heard that spoiler. and even if i hadn’t overheard then i would’ve gotten it spoiled today because someone wrote it on the fucking whiteboard, who does that, really???? 

breakfast and sleep: i don’t think i missed any breakfasts this week! i took a day off school wednesday because i realized. i haven’t been having pollen allergies. i’m sick. that also sounds like a fic i’d love to read. OH SHIT THE FLOWERS I PICKED- I NEED TO PRESS THOSE BACK SOON okay done! back to the thingy. i’ve been having super restful sleep. like not necessarily a lot of it but i don’t feel super tired and it’s been kinda rad. i did sleep for eleven hours wednesday, and i’ve been involuntarily taking two hour naps. as in i set an alarm, a timer, a timer and an alarm for like. twenty minutes. half an hour. an hour. nope. nothing. did. not. work. exactly! exactly two hours later, i awake, a bit too hot and disoriented and feeling like a dry husk of a human being. but i am energized.  

exercise: so i have not exercised at all this week. i am however counting this as not a bad thing because i have been sick all week. as a sick person i have been resting. i plan to assume exercise when i am BetterTM. 

plants: i still have to replace teh burro’s tail soil and repot my cyclamen. i will issue these tasks to a tomorrow me. other plants are holding steady, and i washed my window for the first time in years. all this time i thought it was dirty on the outside, but nope- dirty on the inside. 

face care: i finally used my sunscreen! yesterday. my face felt different kind of, but i remembered to wash it off “with water”and this week has been very good with the face washing and brushing and flossing. i think i flossed four times! 

socializing: I FUKIN!!!!! I HAD FOUR PREPARED SPELLS WHEN I COULD’VE HAD ELEVEN SMH i’m gonna fuk shit up now,,,,, fuk,,,,,,,,, anyhow- i’ve been talking with friends, today i talked a lot with a girl in foods and we had a really fun time laughing and just talking and things and it was noice. i was at two dnd meetings though there were actually three- i missed a meeting due to sickness. we are fighting another evil wizard who is level eighteen compared to our level sevens. our DM was looking at his laptop and laughing. we might just die. 

room cleaning: i took advantage of wednesday to bring down some dishes and do some laundry but i spent a lot of it sleeping/playing Slime Rancher so it’s getting to Chaotic levels of mess. 

how i’ve been: I GOT MY FOODSAFE!!!!!! i passed with only two questions wrong and holy hecc is the certificate ugly, like, arial font, watermark, very fugly. but oo boi am i proud to have it. like fuck yeah i know you don’t use a hotholding dish to warm up food, the hot cycle of a dishwasher should be 82 for 10 seconds at least, your freezer should be -18 or lower, don’t accept oysters if the ice has melted! i’ve been physically sick but what started out as a bleugh week mental health wise is ending with me feeling pretty good about myself. good enough that i presented my poem “i love dead fish: a rancid recollection” to the class, and like. i felt good about it. which great! very great.   

bonus things i’d like to mention: i still need to call the bank so i can do things like have cash money that totals to more than less than five bucks and pay my brother for when he did my paper route. calling your bank is hard. i’m getting sleepy so i may two hour nap again. why body. why. my eternal curse.... my body will sleep the amount it needs but. at the cost of my time. ALSO i’ve been watching moominvalley and it’s been very fun. super pleasant. great to destress to. i’ve rewatched several episodes. the one where snufkin is an anarchist who gets socially suffocated. tip top notch quality. very good. absolutely recommend.

Ever had a poem written about you? About me? No, that I know of anyway.

When was the last time you played the air guitar?

A few minutes ago when I was going through my playlist. I love to pretend I know how to shred. 

One sound you hate and one you love: Hate: Scraping sounds, like a glass door with no lube on the metal slides. It’s painful if you drag it out.

Love: 5.56mm gunfire. That sounds weird, but like getting a shooting rhythm is sort of cathartic to me, and the first shot’s always the loudest, but eventually it just becomes white noise, which is kinda cool.

Do you believe in ghosts? Yes but I’ve never had a directly paranormal encounter myself. The building I work at is reportedly haunted, and I’ve seen racks of bicycles and paddles for kayaks fall with no good explanation. I even watched video of a supposed ball of light/energy/whatever you wanna call it, follow me after I leave our gun storage room. So, I believe in them, I just don’t have anything I can 100% is a dead man’s spirit.

Do you believe in aliens? Yes I do, simply because the random chance for life to form with how vast space is simply means we can’t be alone. I won’t go so far as “ancient astronaut theorists” and no, I haven’t been abducted and probed, but our civilizations are only 4-5 thousandish years old. More advanced life isn’t so far fetched.

Do you drive and if so have you gotten in a crash? I don’t drive, so the closest I’ve gotten is just a fender-bender in my mom’s old car. And I was like nine when that happened.

Do you like the smell of gasoline? It’s not awful compared to other things I’ve smelled, but I don’t go out of my way to smell a gas station.

Last movie you’ve seen? Doctor Strange I think? Like as a rerun on TV.

Worst injury you’ve ever had? Cutting my foot on a suitcase zipper, otherwise I’m pretty good at avoiding injury.

Do you have any obsessions rn? Right now? Eh... mostly just trying to figure out dnd characters and what kind of campaigns I could throw them in. I’ve been on a dry spell from dnd for a bit and I wanna play.

Do you hold grudges? No, not me personally, but I always avoid people who I feel like they might. I don’t know if that’s the same thing or not.

In a relationship? Nope, been single for almost a year now. So uh... still looking.

E: I mean I’d love to but I’m a writer sooooo and deth’s really busy at the moment so as much as I want to do it, it doesn’t seem likely in the near future. Especially the card because I’m an avid dnd player and I know what the stats would roughly be in game and I’m gonna be very picky with those stats. No higher than 16 and that’s really just con because she’s half mewman and mewmans are super durable. If we were to do a chapter and card I’d probably put some of her past and key defining moments, some spells. etc etc. I do actually have her poem buuuuuut that’s super secret spoilery turf so :)
