Join us for the final volunteer hemlock day of the treatment season! We'll be treating trees in a corridor along the Sheltowee Trace National Recreation Trail between the KY-192 trailhead in Laurel County and Vanhook Falls. Register at this link: https://bit.ly/30LJqIR or follow link in the @hopeforhemlocksky bio. All registered volunteers will receive a free Kentucky Heartwood t-shirt (sizes and colors subject to availability, but we have lots). We'll meet at the Starbucks parking lot in London (directly off I-75 exit 38) and leave at 9:00 a.m. for the 192 trailhead, ~15 miles away. Carpooling is encouraged. Once on the trail we'll divide into teams with the Forest Service and State Division of Forestry staff. Volunteers will measure and mark treated trees while licensed applicators apply the chemical insecticide imidacloprid. (For more information about the decline of Eastern hemlock in Kentucky, visit the www.hopeforhemlocksky.org). We'll wrap up in the late afternoon and be back at the exit in London by 5:00. The weather is likely to be hot to very hot, so volunteers should come with 2-3 liters of water along with a lunch/snacks to get through the day. #vanhookfalls #sheltoweetrace #danielboonenationalforest #savekentuckyshemlocks #tsugasaver #tsugacanadensis #easternhemlock #volunteering #explorekentucky #protectourpubliclands #publicland #kentucky #thislandisyourland #hemlockwoollyadelgid #laurelcounty (at Kentucky) https://www.instagram.com/p/ByBxc-lFZggtvLAvkhMWQhGzDx-_4rNLgAiJt00/?igshid=zlhorturjbpj

Cornflower, Paintbrush & Pyramid Peak, A July afternoon, on a ridge top east of Desolation Valley, brought clouds, hint of thunder showers, and summer wildflowers. Photo Geek Stuff... This is an example of some strong post processing and camera technique. This was shot in the harsh light at 3:00pm (better than noon), and the compositional elements were disguised in the foreground mass of wildflowers. I hadn't ranked it as worth post processing, but took a second look, and gave it another chance. There had been a reason that I shot this - but in looking at the RAW files it wasn't obvious. So - the final image is a focus stack of 5 hand held exposures, with initial exposure, contrast, color, shadows, and highlights adjusted in Lightroom. The 5 exposures were aligned and blended in Photoshop, resulting in very sharp detail from near to far. I then added curves and levels layers for contrast, a touch of digital gardening to clean up some bright spots, cleaned sensor dust spots from the sky, darkened the whole image, lightened the center, burned and dodged to bring out some compositional elements, and for fun added a touch of Orton Glow. Now I'm glad that I didn't delete the RAW files. A look at the original RAW files is in the comments - quite a difference! #pyramidpeak #desolationvalley #wildflowers #postprocessing #danholmesphoto #landscapephotography #protectourpubliclands (at California) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bx0FEU_ARHR/?igshid=1po6s11eium2b

Protect Our Public Lands: An Open Letter To America
The North Face deeply values the preservation of our public lands – not simply because they are integral to one of our country’s largest economic engines (the outdoor economy) and are an important part of our business – but because public lands are one of the most vital shared spaces of our civilization. Protecting, preserving, honoring, and embracing these lands gives people places to play, enjoy our country’s iconic beauty, and push their physical limits.
We are proud to have signed the Outdoor Industry Business Leaders Letter on Public Lands to support preserving public lands for future generations to explore, play and connect with nature.
To our elected officials and those who value America’s great outdoors:
This open letter expresses the view of more than 100 leaders of large and small businesses in the outdoor industry, which contributes more than $650 billion annually to the U.S. economy, generates $80 billion in tax revenue and employs more than 6 million people. Together, we represent a huge range of activities – from hiking to hunting and camping to conservation.
Our businesses make the lives of everyday Americans, from every corner of the political spectrum, healthier and happier. We do not often unite as an industry in the way we are today, but we are compelled to make clear our collective view on a vitally important issue that affects the economic health of our industry, our local communities, and the lives of all Americans.
It is an American right to roam in our public lands. The people of the United States, today and tomorrow, share equally in the ownership of these majestic places. This powerful idea transcends party lines and sets our country apart from the rest of the world. That is why we strongly oppose any proposal, current or future, that devalues or compromises the integrity of our national public lands.
Yet as the 115th Congress begins, efforts are underway that threaten to undermine over one hundred years of public investment, stewardship and enjoyment of our national public lands. Stated simply, these efforts would be bad for the American people. They include the potential of national public lands being privatized or given to states who might sell them to the highest bidder. This would unravel courageous efforts by leaders from across the political spectrum up to the present day, including Jefferson, Lincoln and Roosevelt.
This is not a red or blue issue. It is an issue that affects our shared freedoms. Public lands should remain in public hands.
We hold these views both as leaders of the outdoor industry — which creates significant economic value for this country — and as individuals who believe deeply that the next generation should be free to benefit from our national public lands as we and our families do today.
The undersigned companies are therefore working together to ensure that all Americans maintain their right to our iconic national public lands and that it is not taken away.

There are some places that never really get old... ———— I’ve been getting asked a lot lately, “What do YOU want? What’s your long term plan?” Anyone who’s known me for awhile knows I’ve been trying to figure that out for ages. Today, I got some advice... “plans never work out the way you think, so just do whatever you want”. I’d say that was generic and typically not helpful but coupled with this photo it reminded me of a quote, “nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished.” Im just going to keep trusting that my life is unfolding exactly as it’s supposed to. ———— #exploremore #getoutstayout #sheadventures #dirtbagdreams #rootoutdoors #arizona #driftingwild #dreambigneverquit #protectourpubliclands

This is #publicland. This particular piece of heaven was where I was last September. I don't post allot@of@photos of hunts or hikes or anything because I don't think photos do the areas justice. I think if you have an urge to see the kinds of things #hunters #hikers #backpackers #anglers #backcountry folk see you need to go see them for yourself. To ensure that we all get to keep fulfilling those urges we need to #protectourpubliclands we need to #keepitpublic #keepitwild you don't have to join @backcountryhunters if you're not a hunter. What ever your particular trip is I urge you to take a moment of your time to consider conservation. If we do not stand up & tell the powers that be that #ourlandisnotforsale then we have lost already. Again if you disagree with hunting or fishing that is another conversation this is about protecting the land we all hold dear, the heritage of public lands that has been passed to us as torch bearers, that we will pass to the next generation. In order to do that we have to have something to pass on. #conservationworks #hunter #fisherman #fishing #hiking #adventure #wheretheroadends #godeeper #staylonger #meateater #vegan #notredorblue #savepubliclands (at All American Tattoo)
