I decided to start out my somewhat public writing career with a good old sick fic, maybe ill finish it and post it on my blog, maybe i'll disappear from the world and no one will know who actually wrote this, who knows? Hope you enjoy tho! (Btw Ash is 11 in this and also this is just a wip so dont judge me too harshly :D, and Again, sorry for the english!)
"Ash! Breakfast's ready!"
Kukui's voice rang through the house as he called out to the loft, only to be met by silence. Strange. There were many things Kukui had made metal notes about regarding his ward, one of those things being how much Ash loved food. "Since it's the weekend, I thought it would be nice to have pancakes!" Nothing, no signs of life from the boy.
Now he was becoming concerned, why wasn't Ash coming down? Kukui heard the sofa let out a squeak, followed by the sound of footsteps thudding against the floor. Ah, there he is. Though his footsteps were a lot slower and less full of life than usual.
The old and worn out ladder let out a creak, and from the corner of his eye see the figure of a certain freeloader climb them down. "Alola, Ash!" Kukui greeted him with a wide grin. "Good to see you finally awake," He joked with a lighthearted chuckle. "i wasn't sure when i'd get you back from dream land-"
Kukui stopped his tracks, smile dropping when he examined the boy further, taking notice of the boy's tousled hair, pale skin, eye bags and glazed eyes. His face going from a warm smile to concern written all over it.
And that's it, for now :)
Oooh this is a very good start!!! And I’m glad I get to read your first step into being a fanfic author!

More and More, Still Moving Forward - An Ashpika Fic
Tumblr media
[Read on Ao3]
Rated G - No Warnings Gen Pokemon Sun and Moon Pikachu & Ash 942 Words
Summary: It's the end of an era, the Manalo Conference is all wrapped up. There's a lot to think about, and a lot to say thank you for.
Notes: This version of the fic uses the English Dub Names (ex, Ash. Read the Japanese Dub Names (ex, Satoshi) version HERE. This was written for @ashpikazine ! It was a super fun time! Enjoy the fic =D!
-
For the third time, Kukui reaches down to ruffle Ash’s hair through his hat, not that Ash minds. He’s certainly earned it now, Alolan Champion, 30 minutes reigning. He’s worked good and hard to get to this far; he deserves to take pride in that. They do; Ash and his team, his friends and family.
“I’m so proud of you, you know that?” Kukui says softly. His voice is quieter than it needs to be. There aren’t any trainers in the backstage corridors of Manalo Stadium. Not that they’d mind, regardless.
Ash laughs sheepishly.
“Yeah, I know. Thank you, Professor. For the compliment and… everything else.”
He leaves it at that. Doesn’t need to elaborate.
Pikachu, curled up comfortably in Ash’s arms, chimes in.
“Pika-pikachu!”
Kukui laughs.
“You’re both very welcome.”
It’s comfortingly quiet for a moment, only their footsteps in-between the silence, stark contrast from the roaring of the crowd that had enveloped them moments earlier.
They round the corner carefully, returning to the same benches Ash had sat on before he’d entered the stadium for his final battle, contemplating whether this was finally it, if he would win.
Ash plops himself down on the bench, leaning back against the cool concrete wall. He’s still running hot with excitement, and it's nice to rest.
Kukui walks over, kneeling so their eyes meet.
“Now, promise me. No matter how much the rest of the class is dying to see you, don’t leave until I come to get you, okay?”
Ash knows, nods.
Kukui sighs.
“It’s not fair, I know. You should be able to celebrate with your friends, we just… we underestimated how eager reporters would be to interview the participants and…” He trails off momentarily. “Just wait for me, alright?”
Ash hums in reply, and then the professor is gone.
In all honesty, Ash doesn’t mind waiting all that much. In general, yes, waiting was awful, but this time… it felt nice. A breather, a break.
Pikachu curls into a little ball on Ash’s lap, vibrating lightly as he breathes. His breath is calm, steady. If it weren’t for the fact that he’d been there, Ash would never have known Pikachu had been fighting for his life a few moments ago.
Ash scuffs his shoe on the floor, mindlessly petting Pikachu as it purrs.
“Piiiiiikaaaa.”
For once Ash isn’t restless. Must’ve used up all his energy battling. He’s satisfied. It’s a wonderful feeling, satisfaction.
Pikachu’s claws press into Ash’s leg through the fabric of his pants. Pikachu sighs again, and Ash does the same.
“We did it buddy… we really did it…”
Ash breathes out, voice light in the silence. “But you and everyone did all the work! Rowlet trained so hard right at the last minute and Tor- Incineroar, evolving! And-“
Ash is cut off by Pikachu’s paw, reaching up to tap his face. It lands squarely on his forehead.
“Pika-pi-pikaaaachu! Chu-pichu!”
Ash giggles.
“And I helped. I helped too. It’s our victory.”
This seems to satisfy Pikachu, who settles back down in Ash’s lap.
“Really, though. Thank you, Pikachu. All over the world, all this time…. You’ve always been by my side! Look at all we’ve accomplished, all we have to show for it! The titles, the trophies, yes-“
He trails off for a moment, reminiscing on past battles. Ritchie, Harrison, Tyson, Tobias, Cameron, Alain. Old losses. Faba, Hau, Guzma, Gladion and Kukui. New wins. Whoever else awaited in the future. He takes a deep breath, regaining his composure.
“But more than that…”
Ash looks down. Pikachu looks up at him. His own face, wobbly and distorted, is reflected in Pikachu’s large, brown eyes.
“But more than that, you’re my partner. My most precious friend. We’ve met so many people all across our journey, and I know it wouldn’t have been the same without you. Thank you for choosing me, again and again through all these battles, through everything!”
He laughs again, a quieter, slightly bittersweet laugh.
“Sometimes I think you’ve trained me just as much as I’ve trained you! If it weren’t for you, I might still be the same brat I was when we met.”
Pikachu nods at this. “Pikaaaachu.”
“Hey! What I mean is that you’ve taught me a lot, shown me all the ways Pokémon and people should work together!”
“Pika-pika-pika-chu-chu-pika. Chu-pika-pi-chu!”
Pikachu sits up again, reaching out his claws in a grabby ‘Come here!’ motion. Ash leans down, obliging.
Pikachu smiles, pressing his face against Ash’s. Tiny crackles of electricity tickle Ash’s cheek, but Pikachu is careful, would never release enough electricity to really hurt him.
When Pikachu finishes, he stares up at Ash again, unblinking.
“Ka-pi-pikachu-pi?”
Ash grins sharply, determination piercing through his eyes.
“Hey, don’t think I’m giving up alright? We may be champions but there’s still a long way to go before we’re really Pokémon Masters!”
Pikachu raises his fists, squeaking in equal excitement.
“Exactly! We’ll keep moving forward together, more and more and more and more and mooooore!”
He stomps his feet, drumming them against the floor to match the pounding of his heart, like the roar of the crowd in his ears. He can hear it, picture it so clearly that the sound surrounds him even when it’s silent.
“Pipi-kachu!”
“Yeah,” Ash says with a smile. “You and me, buddy.”
He reaches down and wraps his arms around Pikachu, holding him tightly. Pikachu grabs onto Ash’s arms, tiny claws digging into his skin ever so slightly, but Ash doesn’t mind. He lifts Pikachu up and holds him against his chest again, close enough so that he can feel the Pokémon’s breathing.
“Thank you, Pikachu.”
“Pikapi-pikachuuu.”
He holds Pikachu tightly, pouring all his ambition and hope and anticipation into the gesture, hoping, knowing, that Pikachu will understand.
“Ash?” Kukui’s head peeks around the corner. “We’re all clear now.”
Ash smiles.
“Ready, Pikachu?” he asks as he stands. Pikachu nods happily. He’s asking in more ways than one, but Pikachu’s answering in kind.
“Then, let’s go!”

:0 pokemon fanfic??? you got any recs for that? (if you don't mind of course)
okay I was gonna go to sleep but I’ve been waiting to rec these fics for MONTHS
vassal by stolashoots is my current favorite fic. it’s all about Cyrus trying to be a better person after he’s been recruited by Rainbow Rocket. He has a connection to Giratina through the red chain and this fic has such strong characterization I adore it!!
The Taller They Stand, The Harder They Fall by OneSarcasticTremere is an amazing study of Cyrus and how he views the other bosses!!! I really love how they wrote cyrus and how he cares but also doesn’t want to care about the others. Plus it’s really funny at times!!
Shining, Shocking Star by DarkLux is a really interesting character study of Volkner from the perspective of the town of Sunyshore, and how Cyrus has made them more hesitant and fearful of fucking up their kids. There’s a lot of comparisons of the two and I love how they’re both depicted!!
Return by LeDiz is a really interesting character study of Ash and it’s based around him promising Kukui he would be honest to himself and others and his struggle with sticking to that promise throughout the whole fic. There are a bunch of sub plots that all come together during the climax and it’s just kabskwbwkwj it’s so good I highly recommend it!!
for a memory (and a quiet lie) by lovelit is an amazing fic. It singlehandedly got me to consider its ship and I just ajevwkhe the writing style is so nice to read and I love the characterizations!!
Plus, here’s some of my favorite animatic/animations because I adore them:
Jk by TheRoyallyPurple is so so good and I adore how the artist shows how his childhood impacted him and how he went from a quiet nice kid to an insane bitch. There’s this amazing moment where it shows him growing up and I adore it and it inspired the name for my fic “Wait, Waiting, Waited”!! I love how the artist made the music’s rising tempo just show how much he snapped and god it’s so so good
Superhero by FandomEscapades is just. GOD. The art is amazing and it’s animated!!! I love how the artist changes their style on purpose for this to show how Lysandre’s perspective has darkened and god god god I have so many emotions about this animation. i could ramble for hours about literally anything I’ve recced here
Plus, I’ve written like eight Pokémon fics!!
I have an old Pokémon Mystery Dungeon fic about the mcs learning to lean on each other again after dying and coming back to life.
Then, starts my descent into Cyrus becoming my favorite character to write. I have a character study of his last few days before he summoned Dialga and Palkia, with a lot of him loving his Pokémon sprinkled in!!
This one is set the day before, with him thinking about everything that will happen and having a conversation with his Pokémon about it!! yes he loves his Pokémon a lot hehe
Here’s a fic about Cyrus and Saturn meeting in the Rainbow Rocket universe, leading to Saturn joining them as more of an equal that a subordinate
This fic is about Cyrus going into the distortion world and spending about a year there before he caves and tries to escape, but Giratina will only let him escape if they share a body so it can be free as well. He leaves and finds out that only a few seconds have passed in the real world. Plus, it’s all set in Cynthia’s perspective!!
I wrote this one after I watched Arceus and the Jewel of Life three times in a row. I really loved Damos and Arceus and I was insulted there weren’t any fics, so I made one!! This is a canon divergence au where nothing bad happens
now, this is my pride and joy. my favorite fic I’ve written, probably. It’s all about a world where Giratina never interfered and Cyrus destroyed the world. He’s being thrown through dimensions by Dialga and Palkia as they try to show him the good of humanity, though he still has full control of them.
This is my most recent Pokémon fic!! It’s about cyrus and Cynthia being childhood friends and Cynthia being asked to go undercover to find the mysterious leader of team Galactic. you can imagine how terribly that goes

Pokemon Fic Recs
Ok so I noticed that there aren't enough Pokemon recs on Tumblr so I'm hoping to help out. These will mostly be gen fics but there may be some Satugou too. Anyways enjoy.
Ash crashes into the Pokemon Center, alone, bleeding, and desperate. Pikachu's catatonic. He tries to ignore the fact that Hunter J is after him, that he just jumped out of a moving aircraft thousands of feet in the sky, that his friends have no idea where he is, that he barely knows.
He can't let anyone know. He's not sure why, but the secret's pretty hard to hide when you're covered in blood and not the best liar.
He shudders at the fact that she's after him, now. Not his Pokemon. Rare, she said. Aura.
He wants to throw up.
Amazing. Beautiful. Deserves way more attention. This is around 45,000 words too so it's good to read in a few hours. This is also part of a series so if you want to read it I would just go looking. Enjoy. @imaginaryyinspiration
Lusamine's smile, glued on— like when he forced a smile when he secretly wanted to cry, except she was hiding something much more bitter inside than just repressed fear and bad memories. Her voice, though smooth and dripping with syrupy sweetness (sticky and thick and nauseating), was as grating on his ears as nails dragging long and hard down a chalkboard, sending chills up and down his spine.
She was too sweet, cloying, like when copious amounts of perfume were added to hide a foul smell, choking the air around him.
Ash hadn't been truly scared of someone in a long time. Lusamine...she was terrifying.
Another amazing fic by imaginaryinspiration. I absolutely adore this series and hope more people will too cause it doesn't have the attention it deserves.
Ilima was in Kalos during the Crisis, so it's only logical that he knows Ash Ketchum's name. He just hadn't ever expected to see one of the heroes of Kalos attending his old school.
This just makes sense.. like Ash has done some insane fucking freaking things and like no ones noticed, he was on the News for fucks sake in Kalos and lime no one recognised him. Anyway amazing fic loved it, yoy should read it and check out @grainjew while your at it.
A suggestion from Professor Kukui leads to Ash learning yet another language. Featuring an—erm—overenthusiastic green Noctowl; a study in the ridiculous naming of things in the Alola region; and a whole lotta friendship along the way.
or: that one fic where Ash learns Hawaiian Alolan. it goes about as well as you’d expect.
Crack Fic!Crack Fic! Sorry I love crack fics and this one is so funny. The DuoLingo owl haunts my dreams and will now haunt everyone else. Enjoy!
Alola has a rich history of vibrant stories and colorful tales, most full of merriment and joy. However, as a dark remainder of Alola's past is brought back into the light, our heroes will have to face a frozen wasteland and icy ticking time bomb in order to save everyone.
Pokemon movie in the form of a fic? Yes fucking please! I love it it's amazing and I hope more people read it cause it deserves attention. @kisskiss-where-is-season-two
When Ash falls ill a day before Serena's performance, his Pokémon make sure that their Trainer gets the rest he needs, even if they have to be a little forceful. Ash has always taken care of his Pokémon, and his Pokémon will always take care of him. Sometimes the best cure for the flu is plenty of TLC.
Ash's pokemon being protective. That's all I gotta say. @animationnut
Ash and his friends meet up with Misty on a tour of a legendary movie studio in Virbank City, where a new horror film is in production. But a studio tour and an autograph session turn into mayhem when the chills and thrills of the screen come to life!
Again... Pokemon movie in the form of a fic. @zdbztumble
Ash reached the semifinals of the Lily of the Valley Conference. He’s not a rookie trainer any more, and he’s definitely not an idiot. Now he’s starting a new journey in the Unova region, and this time nothing is going to stop him from winning the Vertress Conference and moving one step closer to becoming a Pokémon Master.
A fix-it fic for Ash in Unova. Instead of Ash resetting we say how he grows and helps people again. Also, Iris is less annoying.
Ash is having the time of his life in Alola. Meanwhile, something dark is brewing back in Kalos. Greninja stumbles upon something terrifying and tries to warn Ash. It all gets much worse from there before it gets any better.
I don't wanna spoil anything but I'm just gonna say that it's amazing and you have to read it. @its-railou
Sophocles challenges Ash to a one on one battle, and Ash ask an old friend for help. (I’m not spoiling it in the characters. But maybe you can guess it by the title.)
I will respect the authors wishes and spoil who ot is but it is a good fic about Ash proving his friends wrong again.
Anyways I hope you enjoy the fics and support the writers. I'm gonna see if they have Tumblrs and if they do I will tag them xx

Random ask time! Care to name ten fics, any fandom, that you have or plan to reread? (Not necessarily your top ten because top ten is hard but ten that you genuinely enjoy.)
hi lynse i can’t believe you slightly switched the ask subject from what you were contemplating sending in dms. yes i do care to do this!!! fics follow
these are arranged in literally no order whatsoever except vaguely the order I remembered they existed and tragically they will mostly not be readable for you lynse on account of us sharing fandoms basically never. but in any case!!! let’s go!!!!
A Professor and a Student - LeDiz - Pokemon Anime (Alola) - multichap, complete - Professor Kukui’s pov outsider on Ash, through interstitial set during the first season of Alola anime. This fic is the fic that got me into pokeani in the first place, and I have reread it all the way through at least once and specific chapters genuinely so many times. it’s good! it’s got so many fun reveals! it’s even got a surprise plot! if someone is in pokeani fandom though there’s like a 95% chance they’ve already read it, so it’s kind of pointless to recommend
Broken Rules and Consequences - Redring 91 - Doctor Who (All Eras) - series, ongoing i think - This is one that i’m planning to reread rather than one i’ve already reread: I first read it back when i was originally into dw, in like 2013, and honestly lynse the timing was probably right for me to have recced it to you back then. in any case i have a friend who vouches for its continued quality, and it was straight-up the only dw fic i kept up with for several years after i first fell out of the dw fandom. it’s a really excellent exploration of all the times the doctor has met their past and future selves, and i highly recommend it. it’s also very long, so watch out!
An Unexpected Greeting - kimirice - Pokemon Anime (Alola) - threeshot, ongoing - it’s a fic in the “cynthia runs into ash in alola and dumbfounds his entire class” genre and it’s a good one. my favorite one. i reread it whenever i want to feel serotonin in my bones. serotonin does not go in bones. whatever, this fic is such a joy, it’s pretty short, please read it if you too want serotonin in your bones on account of revealssssss
Phone A Friend - TheBigCat - Doctor Who (Seventh Doctor Era / Gallifrey Audios Era) - oneshot - this is another “reread when i want serotonin in my bones” fic. it really is amazing just how much joy can be stored in a single 1K oneshot, it makes me so happy, that’s ace’s space dad........... wahhh the au - everything’s fine tag on this one really carries it right into my heart
dreamt you a kinder future - Sixteenthdays - Dream SMP - multichap, ongoing - my FRIENDS forcibly got me into the damn MINECRAFT RP. this is all you will see of it on this blog ever because i do have SOME dignity left but if you HAVE gotten bodily dragged into caring about the block men yourself please do enjoy this time travel fixit about pre-plot Dream getting dropped into post-Doomsday era canon and dealing with the fact that his future self is evil and ruined all his relationships. its very good i reread the ranboo chapter regularly
The Red Coast - Maldoror_Chant - One Piece - oneshot - genuinely hilarious pov outsider on post-skypiea straw hats via some idiot bounty hunters who think they‘re easy prey. it’s a lot of fun and it took me three entire rereads to catch the punchline, which i am still mad about. please read this fic i am shaking my fist at it
Though She Be But Little, She Is Fierce - Izzyaro - Pokemon Anime (Kalos Era) - multichap, abandoned(?) - a few years after the kalos crisis, Bonnie sets out on her own pokemon journey. told through the eyes of her very alarmed traveling companion, who so incredibly doesn’t know what to make of her. yes, it only has two chapters and hasnt updated in years. i do not care. the chapters stand alone as oneshots and this fic has done so much for me. its like 90% of the reason i write bonnie the way i do its such a joy
Keeping a Welcome - Gramarye (ao3 | ffn) - The Dark is Rising Sequence - oneshot - did you ever wonder, gee, zeph, why do you write so much loyalty content? and why is it all Like That? well, the answer is that i read this fic at a formative age and imprinted on it like a baby bird, and then subconsciously was shaped by it for the next decade. genuinely it is SO good. it’s so good guys. guys it’s so good im going to cry just thinking about it. o a t h s ,,,  wahhhhhhh gramarye is probably my favorite fic author ever i love their stuff SO much. so much. i am going to cry im telling you!!!!!! (also while I'm here I also recommend everything else theyve ever written, especially the Eirias Triad, which i have reread probably as many times as there are fingers in my house, and which is only not on an entry on this list on account of me wanting to keep it at one rec per author)
Nah - soomin - One Piece - oneshot - the straw hats have been stuck in a time loop of their entire lives for many, many years, and boy are they having a good time causing chaos. this is one of the only op time travels that i feel like accurately captures what would actually happen if luffy did a time travel, and i love it. they’re having so much! infinite retries for the best adventure ever!
Insomnia - tikitikirevenge - The Legend of Zelda (Majora’s Mask) - multichap, abandoned(?) - novelization of majora’s mask with a twist: instead of resetting the three day loop every time, link gets exactly 5 cycles, and the whole thing is a stable time loop. its true it hasnt updated since 2015, but it was my favorite zelda fic back in middle school and i still reread it every few years to confirm that it’s just as good as i remember: it somehow always is. and every time, i forget just how agonizing (complimentary) the link&tatl friendship slowburn is like dear lord does this author know how to write a slowly developing relationship hh i wish more people would read this fic it’s really just very good ok dont mind that its abandoned just before the snowpeak temple

Asides from those you've written fic about, how would you hc pokeani protags' responses to getting sick/who deals with it best and who's an insufferable little shit?
ok i know you said besides who i’ve written about but not everyone who follows me reads my fic so im just gonna include everyone lol. some of these i’ve thought more abt & have more evidence in canon so thats why varying length.
ash: wildcard. might stay in and rest (canon), might try to get up and run a mile with a fever. for the most part he doesn’t protest too much to being made to rest, i imagine if he ever tried as a kid delia probably mommed him to death and now he just sucks it up and listens. recovers inhumanly fast (canon)
misty: makes an honest attempt to sleep it off but gets restless quick. prone to sneaking off. does not want anyone near her while she’s ill. shouts twice as much. leave her ALONE
brock: says absolutely nothing despite how shit he feels. passes out. has to be held down/physically threatened or he WILL continue to work with no attention to how sick he is (canon) doctors make the worst fucking patients.
jessie: comes down sick often and fucking hates this fact abt herself. denies any signs of sickness right up until the point where her cover is utterly blown and she can’t fake it anymore, then collapses dramatically into james & meowth’s arms with a hand over her brow and a line on her tongue about how she’s dying, this is her end, goodbye cruel world, it seems the beautiful truly are as fragile as i was always told, born only to die young as the world turns onward outsi-- (literally all of this is canon)
james: catches the sniffles and whines loud enough that people on other planets can hear him, catches pneumonia and says absolutely nothing until he’s on the ground half dead. never gets sick but when he does he usually gets hit hard but bounces back quick. literally always gets teary/sensitive when he’s feverish. if jessie says something mean to him and he starts crying, half the time her next action will be feeling his forehead.
meowth: brock lite. not a peep until he’s half dead. (canon)
tracey: can sleep anything off. wake tracey up in 3 days.
may: kinda just goes about her thing as normal. not even in a denial-y way like she just doesn’t really care. may’s tell that she’s sick is that she loses her appetite and all her friends go apeshit and are like ARE YOU OKAY?????? never gets sick. all her friends could come down with the flu and she’d be the only one spared and i wrote that fic. like i said, super careless about where she’s putting her germs, which is awesome for drew who is the biggest germophobe in hoenn.
max: turns the closest human into his slave. whines like no tomorrow. WILL manipulate you with crocodile tears and WILL engage in biological warfare if you cross him. do what max says.
dawn: “NO NEED TO WORRY” [passes out on her way to the contest hall]
iris: arguably the most functional human being here. knows exactly what plant will cure her fever and sends axew out to find it while she bundles up and tries to rest. is somehow more medically savvy RE: her own condition than brock & jessie, two people who went to med school
cilan: tries to fake it. fails miserably. is carried to bed by his friends and/or brothers while he mumbles out teary apologies. is a very entertaining patient, but will mansplain how to properly make soup to you while you cook it for him.
clemont: literally just cries nonstop. needs hugs. please hug clemont he’s touch starved and he doesn’t feel good.
bonnie: you better lock this child in the room with you because she will escape out the fucking window if you take your eyes off her for one second. bonnie is NOT good at being sick. she will go on a whole adventure while you’re measuring out the cough syrup. don’t fuck with bonnie. she’ll play pranks on you while you’re trying to nurse her back to health.
lillie: nevermind lillie might be as functional as iris. she takes the day off and reads in bed. game canon says she likes to spend her sick days with her mom, and that’s adorable so im keeping it. lusamine keeps her company when she can afford the time :’)
lana: doesn’t hide that she’s sick but refuses to tell her friends what her symptoms actually are. says a wild dhelmise bit her and now she’s a zombie pirate, or that she woke up that morning with magikarp scales. kukui just sighs and calls her mom.
mallow: being even a little sick puts her in a bad place. she suddenly becomes obsessed with spending time with her loved ones, but doesn’t say much about why. no one presses her to. they just stay close and look after her.
sophocles: gets babied to high hell by his parents and likes it that way. begs his mom for a pint of ice cream and of course she always obliges and makes sure to pick up some of the good malasada from the shop down the road. he doesn’t mind it so much.
kiawe: pushes himself to keep working right up until his little sister gives him puppy dog eyes and tells him to get back in bed. utterly deflates. starts crying, and apologizes for the next ten minutes to her.
th...thats everyone right. did i miss anyone? god this anime is so fucking long. also thanks for the best question ever

( I hope tumblr lets you see this ) Do you have any Ash centric fics to rec? I’m looking for friendship but shipping is fine if that’s what you’re into! I’m in a mood for people appreciating Ash, so if ya had any that would be great Thanks
Success! I can answer this one (I assume you’re the one who sent the message that is haunting my inbox).
Oh, boy, I sure do. Ash Ketchum is the best and I will fight anyone who says otherwise. Gonna put this under a cut, because it got loooong.
Of course I’m going to rec A Professor and a Student by LeDiz, as everyone usually recs for people, because it is damn good. It’s focused on the first season of Sun and Moon from Kukui’s POV, and LeDiz’s characterization of Ash is the absolute best. In fact, any of the fics in LeDiz’s The 48: Pokemon series is great. I particularly like Left Behind, which looks into Ash and Brock’s relationship and is wonderful. It’s set in XYZ.
LeDiz also has one that isn’t in that series called Gonna be a winner. It’s from Pikachu’s POV and talks about its history before meeting Ash.
If you’re up for some trans!Ash stuff, there’s Perfect by MadiYasha, which is amazing and mildly heartwrenching. I love it.
the house by the beach by Hanazuki is another one with Kukui and Ash that’s super sweet.
The Next Morning (and the night) by Neelh is one set in Sun and Moon where Ash gets severely depressed. It’s from Pikachu’s POV and some people might find it a little OOC, but it’s a goodun.
Connecting Dots by RZGaige (RZG) is one set after Lucario and the Mystery of Mew that’s kinda sweet. Kidd Summers is in it, and Brock is pretty Big Bro, which is always nice.
You said you weren’t into ships so feel free to ignore this one, but The Ancienverse by Epicocity is a massive series that’s somewhat canon-compliant until the end of XYZ and then diverges completely from there. It’s Ash/Serena, but each character gets their own story arc, and it’s pretty intense and over a million words long. It’s well worth the read.
Specialization by Llybian is a good one. It’s technically pre-Ash/Dawn, but it’s very much friendship too. It’s adorable, honestly, but then I’ve always loved Ash and Dawn’s dynamic.
Another shippy massive series is called The Road You Choose by skylightsparkle. It’s Ash/Misty and it begins during Lucario and the Mystery of Mew and essentially starts as a ‘what if Misty was there for this movie’ and then adds ‘what if Ash could use his aura more regularly’ and ‘what if Ash was the one who had to help all the Legendaries when they need it’ and it just develops from there. It’s a great read, very long, and involves all of Ash’s friends/rivals (except Alola’s) at one point or another. Ash has a very stressful time. Very stressful. Poor kid.
One last one - The Bond Phenomenon - Two Who Fight As One by Glon_Morski. It’s post-XYZ with Ash on the way back to Kanto, but something about what Squishy said to Greninja about it being the only one who could see the negative energy bothering him. It’s pretty good, and it treats Ash as much smarter than canon seems to, which is wonderful.
That’s all I can think of at the moment, I’m sure there’s more. These are my favorites though, and thanks for asking!!!!!!!

Birthday Prompt: April 24. Pokemon. Historical with inappropriate use of death with Ash. (I feel like I totally cheated with both of these I’m so sorry.)
Happy (late) birthday to both of us, @the-pokemonjesus. I hope you like it. You deserve all the nice things. This was a treat for me to write, I’ve been wanting to touch on this particular subject for a long time now.
If any of you are at all interested in more of my adult!Ash headcanons, you can read my (kinda sorta) tie-in fic here. I tried to keep it vague in this one for the purposes of it being a one-shot so you don’t have to.
Lana: *makes a joke in Sun/Moon episode 31*
Me: Challenge Accepted.
(Read more appears on mobile after reblog)

Ash took a deep breath as he collected the warm, humid air around him. Exhale. He smiled softly, eyes closed, as the mid afternoon sun warmed his face. It was nice to be back in Alola again. Even if he wasn't going to get to enjoy it for long, being able to visit with old friends made the trip worth it.
“Pika Pi!”
He grinned as he turned to face the voice, kneeling and extending an arm so his pokemon parter could jump up and join him. “Hey Buddy, how’s the girlfriend?” he teased.
Not amused, Pikachu bounced up onto his trainer’s shoulder and slapped the brim of Ash’s cap with his tail. “Pi,” he said, crossing his arms and turning his chin up in spite.
(No he had not learned the move, thank goodness. Professor Kukui would have had a field day.)
Ash recovered quickly, a bemused smile on his face as he adjusted his cap. “Pikachu, the last time you saw her, you brought back an Egg.”
The cheeks on the electric mouse turned a brighter red than usual. He deflated, lazily splayed out on his belly on Ash’s shoulder. “Chaaa,” he moaned pitifully.
Sympathetically, Ash gave his friend a good rub across the back. “If all goes well, we’ll be back for next year’s Alola League. You’ll be able to see her again then.” Ash perked up. “Speaking of, I’ll show you what I got at the store.”
The trainer opened the small brown bag that held his most recent purchase. Pikachu watched Ash’s actions intently, lovesickness less on his mind. The pokemon fell into exasperation upon seeing the object.
“Pikapi, pika pikachu,” he said dryly.
“Come on, I know you’ve soft spot for him.” Ash said, putting the Ice Stone in a more secure bag inside his backpack.
Pikachu rolled his eyes and slumped once more on his trainer’s shoulder. “Pikachu pika.”
“Billy’s a nice kid. And you saw Houndour; looked like it was going to evolve at any time. After watching the two, I have a feeling Vulpix isn’t going to like getting left behind.” He afforded himself a chuckle, entirely too pleased with himself on obtaining his recently self-appointed protege.
Pikachu stared pointedly.
“Fine,” Ash relented. “Don’t lie, you enjoy the looks on their faces too.”
That at least got a wicked grin out of the electric mouse. Ash would never turn down the opportunity to help a young trainer. With all of his childhood experiences amassed from leagues and traveling, he felt it was at least part of his adult responsibility to pass on what wisdom he could to the next generation. If he happened to pay a few special favors to Billy, well, he could hardly be blamed. Jessie and James were mostly not pleased at the twerpish influence he had on their son.
It was the least Ash figured he could do.
While the Ice Stone wasn’t the reason he’d come to the islands, it was a nice excuse to buy the gift.
The two had made their rounds to the Pokemon School and Professor Kukui before Ash had gone shopping, and Pikachu had vanished to visit his sweetheart. Now they were on a less familiar dirt path towards their last stop for the day. They hadn't even yet made it to Iki Town when they encountered two of the people they had come to see.
Ash broke out into a wide grin and raised an arm, waving enthusiastically. “Kahuna Hala! Lana! Alola!” he shouted when the two were within yelling distance.
Walking side by side, the two island residents registered him at the same time. Hala’s smile was more reserved, but Lana broke into a huge grin and rushed forward to greet them. Popplio wiggled out of her arms and met a scampering Pikachu halfway. The two pokemon nuzzled noses. An electric spark emitted off Pikachu’s cheeks and shocked the sea lion pokemon to a faint crisp.
Sincerely guilty, Pikachu let out a sad whine. Ash scooped him with exasperated guilt of his own. “Sorry,” he said. “We’ve been trying to unlearn Nuzzle for a while now.”
Lana held Popplio in her arms and was unconcerned, carrying the same quiet smile that she’d always had. Her companion was only incapacitated for a moment, shaking off the electric burns as if nothing had happened, smiling and thrilled to see old friends just the same. A bark and clap signaled that all was forgiven.
“Alola, Ash. Pikachu has gotten a lot stronger,” she teased, reaching out to scratch the pokemon behind the ears. Pikachu melted in contentment at the action. “I thought Mallow was joking with me when she said you were coming back so soon.”
“I know it's only been a month,” Ash admitted sheepishly, “but I needed to see Kahuna Hala in person.”
The man himself now slowly walked up to the younger trainers and stood beside them, his laugh ringing out loudly. "Alola, Ash! Well, no wonder Tapu Koko has been excited!"
Ash blushed despite himself, rubbing the back of his head. Pikachu couldn't help but snicker and meandered by to his shoulder spot. "Kahuna Hala," he then said, bowing politely, large grin on his face. "It's great to see you again."
"If I had known it was you coming we would have prepared a feast." The Melemele Island kahuna gestured for the others to follow as he turned towards Iki Town. “Lana and I have been busy with preparations for the Alola League expansion.”
“We are having lunch at the Aina Cafe tomorrow, you’re welcome to join us,” Lana told the Kahuna.
Ash fell in stride casually. "And we’re leaving later that evening. Besides,” he said, holding a hand over his stomach. “I'm still stuffed from the party you threw the last time we were here."
"A grand luau that was! The battle you and Kiawe gave us was one for the ages. The Ruins of Conflict were glowing with joy the day after," the Kahuna said. “We are still repairing the battlefield!”
Ash laughed nervously at the praise. "When we next visit we'll be sure to have another one." He stopped and turned to face the older trainer. "Today I came for some advice, actually."
Hala regarded the odd seriousness coming from the younger man in equal measure. "I see. Well, let us speak in my home. These old bones wouldn't mind sitting down for a bit,” he finished with a smile.
“I promised to help Mallow. I’ll see you tomorrow.” Lana turned towards the Kahuna. “Thank you for letting me help, the same next week to make sure the sound of construction will not wake Kyogre?”
The eyes of Ash and Pikachu widened to the size of dinner plates.
Lana stuck out a tongue at them and winked. “Just kidding. The wishi washi are helping with the noise reduction for the local pokemon. No Kyogre.”
“Indeed,” Hala confirmed, chuckling at the exaggerated expressions of the visitors. “Hariyama and I will be waiting.”
Lana waved goodbye and set out back towards the city. The two men filled the remainder of the short walk to Iki Town with idle chatter on the changes the islands had seen over the years. Lana was doing underwater surveys to determine the best spots for potential Trials.
Arriving at the Kahuna's house, the two took glasses of iced tea out to the lanai, and seated themselves in rocking chairs. Pikachu took his absence to play with the neighborhood Rockruff.
"For you to make the trip all the way to Alola to seek my advice is no small endeavor," Hala started. "Something must truly be bothering you. I know you have council closer to home."
Ash took a sip of tea before answering, his face showed he was lost in thought. "Do you remember what you asked me when I started my Trial?"
Hala nodded. "I asked how you would resolve the situation with the Rattata and Raticate without a battle. You had a good answer."
"I've been thinking back on that more and more lately," Ash said, leaning back in his chair, looking up at the clear sky. “I need to find another good answer, and you were the one who told me to seek out help if I couldn't come up with something on my own. A friend came to me with a problem - a big problem. I definitely can’t solve it with a pokemon battle.”
“Hmm,” Hala mused. “I am sure you are more than equal to the task after seeing your accomplishments here on the islands.”
Ash paled slightly. “Islands...yeah that’s true I guess.” He sighed. “I’m hoping to meet with an old friend later tonight about it.”
“And you need all the advice you can get,” Hala deducted with a nod, understanding. “I can see the weight of responsibility on your shoulders, Ash. It’s a different look for you.”
Ash smiled, a bit of a tired sigh escaped as well. “A lot of my old adventures are catching up to me is all. Tapu Koko knows all about it.”
“Not surprising, you are his chosen one after all.”
Ash twitched slightly at the Kahuna’s choice of words, but refrained from commenting. “Anyway, I need permission to go out on Route 3 tonight.”
Hala smiled warmly. “You passed my Trial ages ago. You’re free to go to whatever part of the island you need.” He paused. “Perhaps I can offer some advice for you. Whatever it is that you are facing, do not do so alone.”
Ash nodded, a wide grin finally growing on his face. “That I never planned on doing.”
~~~~
Later that night Ash made his way to a remote part of Route 3 on Melemele Island. Aside a berry tree, he stood on a cliff overlooking the ocean. Pikachu yawned, leaning against the tree sleepily. Hands in his pockets, Ash gave his best friend an empathetic look.
"Sorry, Bud. I know it's late, but we can't exactly do this during the day."
Pikachu waved him off, unconcern. "Pika pika."
The trainer went back to looking out over the ocean. A part of him was a bit nervous. He loved meeting old friends, but this one carried part of the weight Hala had spoken to him about.
It was Cynthia who had suggested he come here, rather than travel to the Orange Islands. This time of year the waters stirred more ferociously in Alola.
A rush of wind and rustling of the bushes signaled the trainer and pokemon had a new companion. Ash turned his head to see the guardian of Melemele Island floating next to him.
"Hi, Tapu Koko. I wish we had time for a battle," he smiled regretfully.
"Tapuuuuuu." The guardian agreed, and turned its head to look out over the ocean.
Ash gazed over the ocean again as well. It seemed Tapu Koko wanted to greet their mutual friend.
Pikachu roused himself from his spot by the tree and sat at attention, the guardian pokemon straightening up as well, preparing to be a dignitary.
A spiral of water shot up with great force just beyond the cliff, spraying the group. The column of water collapsed into a sphere. When it dissolved, the water's great guardian hovered in its place.
Ash smiled despite himself, a flood of memories washing over him with greater force than the water. "Lugia," he said. "It's good to see you again."
"Kooooo!" Tapu Koko shot up and gave the fellow legendary a slight bow in greeting. Lugia reciprocated the action in reverence.
"Tapu Koko, Chosen One, Pikachu. It is good to see you all," Lugia said. "I am not pleased it had to be for this reason."
Ash frowned. "Azelf told me what is going on. This thing is contaminating the lakes in Sinnoh and,” he gulped, “probably other places too. Are you alright?”
“The problem is far more widespread than any of us expected.” Lugia began. “I am spending more and more of my day keeping it in check across the ocean.”
“What is it, exactly?” Ash asked, brows furrowed in worry now that they were down to business. “I’ve never seen it before and Cynthia hasn’t heard of it.”
“It is...complicated.” Lugia began with a frown. “It is older than most legends, however, the danger is presents is real. As the beast of the sea carries it to further corners of the globe, the substance will continue to poison the waters.”
Ash frowned, but nodded. “You know I’ll help, but… I don’t know what to do.”
“Collect the three treasures. Play my song to calm and heal the beast,” Lugia said quickly. “If this does not work...then I’m afraid it will be beyond my abilities alone.”
Ash frowned slightly in contemplation, tapping an index finger on his chin. “If we only have one shot at this,” he grinned, “let me get some friends. I know just the right people.”
Lugia nodded. “Your travels have served you well over the years.
“I don’t want to let them down,” Ash responded. “This world belongs to all of us.”
“More true words have never been spoken. I will do all that I can to mitigate the damage in the meantime. I imagine Tapu Koko and his fellow guardians will assist in kind around the Islands.” Lugia turned to his peer.
Tapu Koko nodded, and bristled in agitation.
“I’ll book the first flight to Johto when I get back home,” Ash said seriously. “I’ll look for Suicune first. If you need to find me - ”
Lugia nodded. “I know how to get in touch. Travel safe, Chosen One. It seems perils of the world will not rest in our lifetimes.”
Ash had a momentary lapse of reality as he thought back on a few choice adventures. “I know better by now to think otherwise,” he paused briefly. He hated to end the conversation on such a sour note, even if the circumstances were dire. Picking at his memory, he flushed, nearly embarrassed to speak now. “If you have just a minute, do you think you could do me a favor?”
“A favor? If it is within my power I would do anything you asked, Chosen.”
Ash grinned, the thought of finally getting the one up won out. “I was hoping you would pay a visit to a friend of mine who lives on the island….”
~~~~
“Mallow this is delicious! I feel like it gets better every time I visit!”
The Aina Cafe was filled to capacity for lunch. Old friends, both human and pokemon, had come to say hello to the island’s honorary son during his unexpected visit. Pikachu was seated next to Ash on the table, happily chewing away at a treat. Togedemaru was overtly content to eat beside him.
“You flatterer!” Mallow lightly accused. “You just want more, don’t you?”
Sophocles didn’t even look up, scrolling through lines of code on his wrist projector. “You’re going to give him more anyway, just do it.”
Ash made sure to project his most heartfelt, pleading eyes. “I have to remember what it tastes like, I’m going on the road again.”
Mallow sighed dramatically, her genuine smile giving her true feeling away. “It's good to have you back Ash, even for a meal. It too bad Lillie couldn’t be visiting at the same time.”
“Are you sure you don’t have time for a battle?” Kiawe asked. He was relaxed, but wasn’t able to hide his disappointment.
“Sorry,” Ash answered, truly regretful. “I need to catch my flight. I have someone I need to meet in Johto as soon as possible.”
“Speaking of, I’m surprised Lana isn’t here yet, “ Sophocles said. “Your flight time isn’t going to leave much time other than eating here for socializing.”
Mallow made a show of thinking. “Didn’t you say you saw her yesterday, Ash?”
As if on cue, the door to the cafe swung open. Lana stood on the threshold, Popplio by her side. Both looked frazzled and confused. “I saw Lugia!” she exclaimed before anyone could ask what was wrong.
There was a prolonged silence - before the room erupted with laughter.
“A good one, Lana!” Sophocles howled.
Kiawe wiped a tear from his eye. “You’re getting more creative with your delivery.”
“No! I actually did see Lugia!” she said frantically. “It talked to me and everything!”
Mallow grinned. “What did Lugia say then?”
“‘Hello, Friend of the Chosen One’,” she recited. “‘Would you like a ride?’” Lana took a deep breath before continuing, going on as if she were telling a scary story. “And then we swam underwater. I passed out, and woke up on Poni Island! I thought I had died when I saw Lugia standing over me.”
“That’s a little too ridiculous,” Kiawe said. “And specific.”
“Popplio was there too! Right?” she said, turning to her partner.
The sea lion pokemon barked and nodded enthusiastically in agreement.
Sophocles pouted. “I’m not falling for it again. Just last month you said Kyogre was sunbathing by the rock pool, and Popplio agreed to that too!”
“I’m telling the truth this time! I promise! You believe me, right Ash?”
Ash looked up for the first time since Lana had entered, setting his full spoon back down on his plate. He gave her a wry grin. “Well, I hear Lugia lives around the Seafoam Islands and Orange Islands.” He made a show of contemplating. “I suppose it's possible Lugia wanted a vacation. It is the same ocean after all. Who wouldn’t want to visit this beautiful place?”
Lana zoomed in to hug him tight. The others laughed around them, letting Ash know he was too nice to humor her. He’d come clean about it someday, probably sooner since he’d need the help from his Ultra Guardians team with this latest world crisis. Until he figured out the origin of the threat though, letting them live in bliss was something he could do.
It seemed these days a lot of things were coming full circle from his childhood. So, despite the somber reason behind his visit, his mind idly wondered what a certain bewear was up to and if he had the time to find out.

think of it like you're doing the anime adaptation and using alan's 'improve everything 1000x by sheer proximity' magic.
“. . . using alan’s ‘improve everything 1000x’ by sheer proximity’ magic”
I love you sfm. ♥ He does have that magic, it is 1000% true. He improves everything simply by existing.
But yeah, To Devour the Sun actually is an anime adaptation! I mean . . . kind of. It deviates a lot from the anime as well both because I take control of Alan’s story post-XYZ044, and I started writing it before the anime premiered. So there are certain details, such as how both Ash and Lillie live with Kukui in To Devour the Sun, and how Gladion is actually on good terms with Skull, et cetera that differ drastically. Lusamine’s characterization is also radically different, particularly since I conceptualized her to be something of a foil to Sycamore, while at the same time having a lot of parallels to Lysandre that Alan picked up on during their first meeting (like, her “slogan” for the Aether Foundation was a trigger for him in chapter two because of how similar it was to what Lysandre always said). So it is an anime adaptation, but it’s also very different since I planned it all out before the anime premiered / introduced these characters. I started planning things back when all we had was concept art.
(There’s also how I decided to run with the Aether family = Ultra Beasts thing, but like, come on . . . that was just too cool of a theory to let die.)
ryttu3k replied to your post “I will say that as glad as I am that Nintendo has finally, finally...”
It's part of the universe where you went My City Now and gave them fantastic stories and compelling characterisation. What's wrong with that?
That is true, it is part of that universe (albeit not prime timeline, but that’s a whole separate discussion, haha). But anyway, thanks. ♥ I guess I just, as I’ve said before, feel self-conscious about just how much of it was jossed. Characterization is something I do tend to take a bit of pride in, in that I’ve been told before that people can hear voice actors reading character dialogue when I write it, so the fact that Gladion, Lillie, and Lusamine are all so different in this story than they ended up being in canon makes me feel pretty self-conscious, like---regardless of my reasons, it’s still OoC, and that’s bothersome to me. But at the same time, as I said, it’s too late to change it. Gladion has already shown up, as has Lusamine, and while Lillie hasn’t yet, a huge part of the plot relies on her being as I’ve already characterized her in planning. Making her accurate to her game / show portrayal won’t work, because if I did that, she wouldn’t be doing the things she does in this fic. I have tried to make her match her canon characterization as much as I can, in some areas, but by and large it won’t work. That misleading concept art damned me. ><
Either way, I know I shouldn’t worry too much about it. I mean, hopefully my story will be compelling enough regardless, like you said. It’s just something that tempered my excitement when I saw Ultra Space in USUM, particularly since I had fleshed out Ultra Space a bit for the background of my fic (in that the reason why Lusamine is doing what she’s doing here is to get resources for Ultra Space by completely devastating this world and most of the living beings within it), and that’s just . . . all getting jossed now, orz.

More and More, Still Moving Forward - A SatoPika Fic
Tumblr media
[Read on Ao3]
Rated G - No Warnings Gen Pokemon Sun and Moon Pikachu & Satoshi 942 Words
Summary: It's the end of an era, the Manalo Conference is all wrapped up. There's a lot to think about, and a lot to say thank you for.
Notes: This version of the fic uses the Japanese Dub Names (ex, Satoshi). Read the English Dub Names (ex, Ash) version HERE. This was written for @ashpikazine ! It was a super fun time! Enjoy the fic =D!
-
For the third time, Kukui reaches down to ruffle Satoshi’s hair through his hat, not that Satoshi minds. He’s certainly earned it now, Alolan Champion, 30 minutes reigning. He’s worked good and hard to get to this far; he deserves to take pride in that. They do; Satoshi and his team, his friends and family.
“I’m so proud of you, you know that?” Kukui says softly. His voice is quieter than it needs to be. There aren’t any trainers in the backstage corridors of Manalo Stadium. Not that they’d mind, regardless.
Satoshi laughs sheepishly.
“Yeah, I know. Thank you, Professor. For the compliment and… everything else.”
He leaves it at that. Doesn’t need to elaborate.
Pikachu, curled up comfortably in Satoshi’s arms, chimes in.
“Pika-pikachu!”
Kukui laughs.
“You’re both very welcome.”
It’s comfortingly quiet for a moment, only their footsteps in-between the silence, stark contrast from the roaring of the crowd that had enveloped them moments earlier.
They round the corner carefully, returning to the same benches Satoshi had sat on before he’d entered the stadium for his final battle, contemplating whether this was finally it, if he would win .
Satoshi plops himself down on the bench, leaning back against the cool concrete wall. He’s still running hot with excitement, and it's nice to rest.
Kukui walks over, kneeling so their eyes meet.
“Now, promise me. No matter how much the rest of the class is dying to see you, don’t leave until I come to get you, okay?”
Satoshi knows, nods.
Kukui sighs.
“It’s not fair, I know. You should be able to celebrate with your friends, we just… we underestimated how eager reporters would be to interview the participants and…” He trails off momentarily. “Just wait for me, alright?”
Satoshi hums in reply, and then the professor is gone.
In all honesty, Satoshi doesn’t mind waiting all that much. In general, yes, waiting was awful, but this time… it felt nice. A breather, a break.
Pikachu curls into a little ball on Satoshi’s lap, vibrating lightly as he breathes. His breath is calm, steady. If it weren’t for the fact that he’d been there, Satoshi would never have known Pikachu had been fighting for his life a few moments ago.
Satoshi scuffs his shoe on the floor, mindlessly petting Pikachu as it purrs.
“Piiiiiikaaaa.”
For once Satoshi isn’t restless. Must’ve used up all his energy battling. He’s satisfied. It’s a wonderful feeling, satisfaction.
Pikachu’s claws press into Satoshi’s leg through the fabric of his pants. Pikachu sighs again, and Satoshi does the same.
“We did it buddy… we really did it…”
Satoshi breathes out, voice light in the silence.
“But you and everyone did all the work! Mukuroh trained so hard right at the last minute and Nya- Gaogaen, evolving! And-“
Satoshi is cut off by Pikachu’s paw, reaching up to tap his face. It lands squarely on his forehead.
“Pika-pi-pikaaaachu! Chu-pichu!”
Satoshi giggles.
“And I helped. I helped too. It’s our victory.”
This seems to satisfy Pikachu, who settles back down in Satoshi’s lap.
“Really, though. Thank you, Pikachu. All over the world, all this time…. You’ve always been by my side! Look at all we’ve accomplished, all we have to show for it! The titles, the trophies, yes-“
He trails off for a moment, reminiscing on past battles. Hiroshi, Hazuki, Tetsuya, Takuto, Kotetsu, Alain . Old losses. Sauboh, Hau, Guzma, Gladio and Kukui. New wins. Whoever else awaited in the future. He takes a deep breath, regaining his composure.
“But more than that…”
Satoshi looks down. Pikachu looks up at him. His own face, wobbly and distorted, is reflected in Pikachu’s large, brown eyes.
“But more than that, you’re my partner. My most precious friend. We’ve met so many people all across our journey, and I know it wouldn’t have been the same without you. Thank you for choosing me, again and again through all these battles, through everything!"
Satoshi leans down, obliging.
Pikachu smiles, pressing his face against Satoshi’s. Tiny crackles of electricity tickle Satoshi’s cheek, but Pikachu is careful, would never release enough electricity to really hurt him.
When Pikachu finishes, he stares up at Satoshi again, unblinking.
“Ka-pi-pikachu-pi?”
Satoshi grins sharply, determination piercing through his eyes.
“Yeah,” Satoshi says with a smile. “You and me, buddy.”
He reaches down and wraps his arms around Pikachu, holding him tightly. Pikachu grabs onto Satoshi’s arms, tiny claws digging into his skin ever so slightly, but Satoshi doesn’t mind.
“Satoshi?” Kukui’s head peeks around the corner. “We’re all clear now.”
Satoshi smiles.
“Ready, Pikachu?” he asks as he stands. Pikachu nods happily. He’s asking in more ways than one, but Pikachu’s answering in kind.
“Then, let’s go!”

Hey! It's the anon once again. I was finally able to see your post once I got the Tumblr app. I want to thank you. You and your ideas got me back in the Pokemon fandom and actually inspired me to work on my own Pokemon fanfic. I also have some questions. What do you think of Ash? Who's your favorite and least characters from each game/anime? What's your favorite pairing? Some of your favorite headcanons? Why do you hate Rose so much? (Haven't played SWSH)
I’m so happy that you were able to see it!!! And I’m happy that my work and ideas brought i you ou back! And wnsnans I CAN’T WAIT TO READ THE FIC!!!!
What do you think of Ash?
I’ve always seen myself in Ash. He reminded me of a child with severe ADHD, and me a child with severe ADHD loved having a character I can somewhat relate to than just more than girl characters. I also love how close he is with his Pokémon, and how he treats them very differently from a lot of trainers. Along with how he never actually forces them to evolve, it’s always up to them if they truly want to do that.
What is your favorite/least favorite character from each Game/anime?
(I’ll do the games another time but I’m sticking with the Anime for now!!!)
Gen 1
Fav: Ash 👀 which is obvious
Dis: Lance surprisingly, I liked him a lot better when he showed up in Johto and during the last fight in Hoenn. But never liked him to begin with.
Gen 2
Fave: Brock, Ash actually gave me some annoyance during Gen 2 and Brocks Normal antics with pretty girls didn’t really upset me like it usually does
Dis: Misty, for the soul fact I didn’t like her voice. It reminded me to much of one of my old pre school teachers that actually hated me so I just associated Misty with her until after the Sinnoh arc
Gen 3
Fav: May, she reminded me a lot like Ash and also with having a little brother. I have two little sisters so I connected more with May
Dis: Wallace. Fuckin’ Wallace for the reason being I hated his fucking outfit
Gen 4
Fav: Cynthia, she wanted to fight Gods and I love her
Dis: mix up between Paul and Barry for reasons very blatant
Gen 5
Fav: Ash back at it again because Cilan and Iris were to fucking annoying
Dis: Iris and Alder. It’s a tie between the two. Alder because he’s a Bumbling idiot and doesn’t deserve the title of Himbo. And I took personal offense every time Iris called Ash a kid when he ended up doing a small thing wrong or doing something that he just Dose because he’s Ash.
Gen 6
fav: Professor Sycamore, when he found out who the mask Blaziken was it made me smile a lot because the Professor also kept the secret to himself for so long
Dis: Serena, she was a good character and loved by many, I respect that. Her voice was annoying, along with Bonnie but I had a weird connection to her since my sisters loved her, and how blantant she was with Ash. Even though it was his own fault for not seeing the obvious fucking clues
Gen 7
Fav: Professor Kukui and Ash, FAMILY BOND!!!!
Dis: Faba. Do I even have to explain him?
Gen 8
(Ik, IK it’s barley even out tho)
Fav: I’m having a feeling I’ll love Marnie if she comes to the anime. But for now it’s Ash, the art style is amazing and the scene with Lugia? B L E S S
Dis: Chairman Rose and Oleana, I know their not in the anime yet but I still can’t help myself.
What’s your favorite pairing?
Its a toss up between four right now.
Palletshipping- it was literally the second ship I got into and was also another reason for me to continue watching Pokémon after Gen 1 because my friend hinted that Ash and Gary made up, somewhat, after the Johto conference. So it’s an oldy but a goodie and I enjoy a lot of smaller headcanons about them.
Originalshipping- it was, I think, my fifth ship? I loved watching my older brothers play the first Pokémon games every Christmas Eve after dinner at my dads. It was a tradition that still goes on today. But besides that, I love stoic and silent Red with blabber mouth and energetic Green. I screamed when I found out they were going to be at the battle tree in the Alola Sun and Moon game.
(I blame @hiddenbyfaeries for the next two because she talked/screamed with/at me about them)
Ash/Hau/Gladion- their cute separate and together. And Hau and Gladion has a lot of good emotions in the game while both had very good episodes with Ash in the anime. Gladion and Hau just didn’t have any together from my recollection.
Leon/Ash/Raihan- I never stated anything about this in a post. But I will clarify that I mean Leon/OLDER!Ash/Raihan, for Ash would technicaly be around 20-something if the anime would let him age up instead of staying ten. But it’s slowly climbing higher in my heart of ships.
Favorite headcanons?
- Ash is strong, crazy strong. But his body doesn’t shown it, he still has soft baby fat and slightly round edges. Yet he can still chuck you to the moon if he puts enough effort into it
- my Tattoo!AU in general, which I’ll expand later on
- Brock is still the best cook to Ash, even when he gets older and all. Brock is the best
- Gary has a natural attraction to Dark and Fairy types. So when he goes to Kalos for a few month working under Professor Sycamore he ends up getting a sylveon, shiny or not is your chose to interpret
- Cynthia likes watching Dawn during contests, just like Diantha likes watching Serena in her contests
- ^^^ Diantha was slightly sad that Serena wasn’t going to enter in the Kalos contests. But she did warn Wallace about how good Serena is and got the older man to watch some of the girls old competitions. Wallace ends up falling in love with the girl and some how ends up becoming her pseudo weird ass uncle
-^^^^ she calls up May, who Ash sent her phone number to because he doesn’t want to approach Serena yet because of the kiss, and asks about Wallace
- May: *Sighs* he unofficially adopted you?
Serena: *panicked* he’s asking me to call him Uncle Wall!?
May: *seriouse* welcome to the family, you can’t escape
- both Gary and Ash melt when you pet their hair, like really get into it and lightly scratching their skulls. Their puddles of love and whine and complain when you stop.
- this is more canon I believe than a headcanon, but Professor Oak was an Ice type trainer before becoming a Pokémon Professor. So imagine him with an Alolan Ninetails
Why do you hate Rose so much?
I don’t have SWSH either, I watched my little cousins and older brothers play it on the Tv. I had an inkling of Rose since he was first introduced before the game. Something just bagged at the back of my head and grew as more content came out. This is the first time we’re dealing with a Chairman of the League in general, it’s usuajust the Champion that you see running it (or in Alola’s case, Professor Kukui). So having an actual Chairman just set off my warnings signs and I ended up being right that he was the bad guy. Oleana also didn’t help his image to me. But I’ve also felt with people like him and they were all very condescending to me, so just seeing him made my blood fucking boil.
