I'm sorry to say I've been thinking and thought I'd expand upon how what's going on now parallels what's going on with the twins. To the dismay of the readers it was shown that Snake didn't really know the true Doll for who they were... He loved an idealized version of Doll, and what that idea, meant to him. He truly thought of Doll as a good person who would never harm innocent kids, and that's simply not true. I've been thinking a lot about how both the twins are guilty of the same idealization when it comes to each other, even if they both don't know it yet. R!Ciel may claim he's proud of his twin on the surface, but he conveys it in the most insincere and condescending way imaginable... and clearly doesn't think too highly of his brothers accomplishments, as he's happy to disregard them. He says he's excited to have a 'real fight' with his brother... but it's pretty evident what he means by that, is he relishes in humiliating him and can't wait to win, to beat him in this fight. He's underestimating him, even if he wont own up to it. In his mind, O!Ciel represents the perfect little brother that highlights his own strengths and makes him shine by comparison. O!Ciel in all likelihood, probably doesn't think of this bizarre doll as his brother in the truest sense, even a little bit. Even if he hasn't said this out loud, he knows Sebastian wouldn't lie to him about insisting his brother truly died. As we all know, once something has been truly lost it can never return. The closest thing O!Ciel has to his brother, is the version of him that exists only in his memory. He thought of his brother as this overwhelmingly sweet and kind, charismatic would-be leader, the unwavering pillar of strength, someone who was 'stronger' than he was. The stronger of the pair, the one who would know better about everything, the one to really get things done, when things seemed impossible. O!Ciel formed an entire new sense of self around this idealized version, of R!Ciel in his head. I'm just saying... while he may genuinely have an idea of who his brother was in his head, that's probably not who Ciel was, in reality. ... However. Will this reality come to light, and if he ever is forced to confront that in a meaningful way, will he accept it? I want to know. Because O!Ciel is more than just an imitation. He's all, authentically himself, all of who he truly is. He's exactly the person he wants and chooses to be. Sad. Anyway. Happy birthday to them both, cheers to the upcoming year and all it brings to this series.

Headcanons for the Phantomhive twins

R!Ciel learning how to whistle so he can imitate birds for his bedridden brother. Said brother would try to guess which birds R!Ciel was portraying.

If they did something bad or made a mess, they would address the wrong using chess-related codenames in front of adults in the hope those adults wouldn't find out (which they would always do).

They would always try to fall asleep facing each other.

O!Ciel would firstly try to crawl into his brother's bed when he was scared, but his brother is a very deep sleeper, so if R!Ciel did not wake up, he would go to his parents.

R!Ciel once got attacked by a duck while eating his lunch outside. When he told his sick brother about the incident, he exaggerated so much that O!Ciel didn't dare to go near ducks for at least three months.

Where mystery and gothic authors such as Arthur Conan Doyle and Edgar Allen Poe are O!Ciel's favourite, R!Ciel actually prefers more romantic and lighthearted authors to read.

O!Ciel had a heightened sense of smell for food since a young age. R!Ciel was impressed by it and they decided to train the skill by blindfolding O!Ciel and holding different things under his nose, including tea boxes snuck out of the kitchen.

Both boys preferred their father reading their bedtime story, because Vincent would use "silly voices" for all the characters in the story.

The brothers often switched places unintentionally. They were so used ot being addressed to together that they would respond as one, making keeping them separate very difficult.

O!Ciel is proficient with horses, while R!Ciel doesn't care much for them.

O!Ciel once tried to ride horseback on Sebastian the dog. O!Ciel acts like he doesn't know why the dog doesn't appear to like him, but the dog simply never forgot.

Black Butler ch. 196: Theo, Nick and Ginny

After reading the synopsis of the most recent chapter, I’m fairly convinced that the F.O.L. Orphanage secret goal is to turn a child from Pomeranian Class into a substitute body for O!Ciel’s soul in order to save him from the contract. Surrounding potential hosts with elements and activities as much similar as possible to what our earl is used to is, I assume, to minimize the chance of internal conflict if the original host’s soul (or its remains or just muscle memory) stays in the body. The drama around pastries from the previous chapter supports this: different dish but the same ingredient, lemon.

And then there is Theo, the most prominent boy from Pomeranian Class. He would appear at this moment to be a candidate, but his attitude is more reminiscent of R!Ciel than O!Ciel. Same calm (and sus) expression and demeanor, strong sense of duty as an oldest brother and how whenever he appears he steals all the attention by being perfect.

Of all the children we have met so far, Nick is much closer to O!Ciel or at least how he was in the past or how he could be if it wasn’t for everything that happened to him. Nick is sweet, cheerful and doesn’t like being kept inside. The manga even supports this as when Nick was shown looking outside the window the same way O!C was in his flashbacks.

Kinda unrelated, but another thing that I’ve noticed but haven’t seen others pointing that out yet, is how Ginny from the Corgi Class looks similar to Lizzie. She has the same straight pigtails as Lizzie used to have during the Campania incident, although it was this way because they got wet. My guess is that Ginny just has naturally straight hair. She and Lizzie even had similar experiences. They didn’t want to practice something anymore out of fear (Lizzie’s was of becoming too strong and scaring her fiance while Ginny got traumatized by a horse accident), but were told that despite anything they must continue and eventually both girls did. Also Ginny being in the Corgi Class that specializes in physical activities is reminiscent of Lizzie’s strength and athleticism.

Haven't read black butler in 5-6 months.

Finally caught up and wow, barley any contents 😭

Either way, Doll's reunion with Snake was heartwarming until she seemed to be wanting to kill him.

The kids' state is sad honestly, though I don't get what happens to those who reach fledging day or why they seemed shocked about knowing their blood is being collected- I thought they knew, that's why they want to run away??

Tbf I don't like how these servants missions are going. They all seem easy work and we aren't getting the twins reactions to all this besides the maid's one.

At this point I don't think Undertaker and Ciel are even trying to win 💀

If they really need the blood, put some loyal and strong ppl to protect the facilities wtf.

I have to ask this before I go to sleep:

Is Real!Ciel really still in his 10 year old body or is he in his 13 year old body.

Undertaker has never explained aging in his resurrection process and there is no way the blood is being poured into Real!Ciel enough to continue his physical growth unless there is some Shinigami magic or growth serum in the blood that's allowing him to age.

Like he clearly looks 13, the same age as Our!Ciel when they meet.

Is there something I'm missing?

New here, new to your blog, very nervous, please be gentle. Real-boy said he would have invested in railways instead of a toy company. I don't know if this is just my personal squick, I don't know if he would-have had the power to force members of the estate to work on railways as part of his 'investment' but either way. I have a (great, great) grandparent who worked as a railroad Navvy, he immigrated to escape Britain's working conditions... that's literally why I'm here. Say what one will about Our!Ciel, but Funtom is providing safer jobs to people... Read a bit about Railroad Navvies during that time period, I'm betting it'll shock you. Contrary to whatever anyone says, they were NOT, "well paid" they were NOT compensated well or even given beds. They died at a high rates, and families weren't compensated for deaths. Sometimes, they weren't even paid with real money... So that definitely set off a 🚩.

I thought, initially...that this was just to illustrate differences between the two of the twins... That "Real!Ciel" would have made what he felt were more business-oriented, practical decisions for monetary gain and expansion ... and not more personal choices, like Our!Ciel.

(( By "communications" I assume he means something literal. Telephone lines, something like that.)) But after taking another look, that is some very interesting thought-food, you provided. It's very easy, for readers to forget about the working class and common people who's lives are being played with while all of this is going on, and I think that's intentional. It was also clearly illustrated, that Real!Ciel is just not that interested, in investing in areas that might also create more opportunities, for the working class, or for providing with goods and services, to women and children. He seemingly doesn't care for the toys, and didn't seem interested in Funtom supplementing income that theoretically, the Estate could be providing by itself.... You spoke specifically about railways. From what I understand, investors in railways normally didn't want train-tracks running through THEIR property and estates, and that often created problems... but. ...Some didn't mind, so long as it meant exclusivity, and bigger shares of profits. Most especially, when land owners had canals, in their possession. Telephone lines required similar... labor, for their infrastructure (and thus the conditions were also pretty bad for those who had to build them). As for whether or not he could "force" people who lived on his estate into other trades, like that... Absolutely, he could. I think a lot of factors could determine that, but it's not entirely out of the question. It's happened to people, historically. He could certainly make it much harder for people living there, to continue to do so happily. They could move theoretically, they just have to abandon their homes and the only life they've ever known. If they can afford it. Mm. Thinking about a railroad or telephone lines, running right through the estate where that canal was built, kind of breaks my heart a bit... but regardless, I'm glad that didn't happen or hasn't happened, yet. I don't know what fate is going to befall Funtom or the Estate, but I hope the company survives, a while longer. I'm sure if the working classes who live on the Estate had a say in the matter, they'd want Our!Ciel, as their Earl. No contest.
