hi hi hi!!! so i just recently hit 800 n i was going to save this for my 1k celebration, but genuinely i am just full of so much love for everyone that i couldn’t hold myself back from doing this so !!!! appreciation post for mutuals!!! n this is absolutely wild to me, bc ive been on tumblr for over 4 years now, n remade this blog at the end of september to both restart and because i was getting super into mcyt n wanted a blog to focus on that, and the fact that ive grown this much since then is absolutely insane to me!!!

im feeling full of love for all of my mutuals (aka people i consider my friends <3) so!!! have written messages for u all :DD i mostly wrote them for people i talk to a lot/look up to, so pls dont feel bad if i didnt write one for u!!!! pls absolutely follow everyone in this list they are all amazing people n deserve ur follow !!!! obs not a complete list bc bad memory but just. they are all so cool :]

I have some questions please: If Metal Gear Solid was remade, (for example Director Kojima and none of the original employees were part of the remake) in your opinion how different do you think it would be from the original game?

-Do you think it would be more playtime and less cutscenes?

-Do you think they would omit certain characters/cutscenes?

-Do you think they would completely change the personality of some characters?

-Do you think they would have brand new voice actors to voice the characters or have some of the original voice actors reprise their roles?

Sure! Metal Gear asks always make my day. (: They’re so rare nowadays lol.

Assuming Konami would take a current-gen XBox/PS/PC seriously (side-eyeing you, Metal Gear Survive), I don’t think they’d change it too much from the original.

I say that because technically, they did remake MGS1 with its GameCube edition, The Twin Snakes. On top of the game looking way better, they took a lot of inspiration from MGS2: Sons of Liberty in terms of the mechanics, the camera, details, etc. and implemented them into that remake — and you can tell, because it plays much better than the original. You can read a full list of the changes between those games here, if you’re curious.

I’d assume they’d be working off The Twin Snakes’ coding... provided they didn’t straight up lose it like they did Silent Hill 2’s. >_>

I don’t think the cutscenes would change much tbh. They kind of make Metal Gear what it is, and the long bits of exposition are kind of a nice break from the task of sneaking through hallways and whatnot until you reach a boss fight or a some other obstacle. Plus, the original 3 games would honestly be really miserable to play through in higher difficulties if you made them longer than they already are (MGS1 is about a 10-16 hr game depending on how leisurely you’re playing it)

Now, If we were talking about MGS4 then yeah, that one absolutely it needed more playtime because that’s almost a 30 hour long game (playing pretty leisurely) that can be run through in about 5 hours or less* on the highest difficulty if you know what you’re doing and are skipping cutscenes (it literally holds two Guinness World records for cutscene length lmao).

That being said, I do think they’d use the original voice actors — the originals and their performances are iconic, they all returned for the fourth game, and if they’re trying to make money off of this and not deal with the Kiefer Sutherland voice over debacle for MGS5 all over again, I think they’d be aware of how big a deal this is for this series. Also worth noting: David Hayter, Cam Clarke, Robin Atkin Downes, etc. have reprised their roles in audio bits on their respective YouTube channels several times, and have never received like takedowns or cease and desists or whatever from Konami to my knowledge (and Konami loves their litigation).

Plus, the voice audio quality is really, really good in MGS1. They even reused it in Twin Snakes, but added more dialogue by the same VA’s to give them (particularly Naomi and Campbell) more depth (on top of rendering some of the 2D briefing file scenes in 3D).

They could do something neat with like Robin Atkin Downs (since he is the real Kaz Miller) and maybe have something with the real Miller before Liquid begins impersonating him, but idk if Konami would put that much effort into it lol.

I also don’t think they’d cut or fundamentally change any of the characters from the original, going by memory. They’re all fleshed out pretty decently (even FOXHOUND), and I can’t really remember anything specifically that wouldn’t at least mostly fly now. However, I admit that it’s been about a year and a half or so since I’ve played it, so I fully admit I could have forgotten some of the finer details. But generally speaking, I don’t really see it changing much.

Long story short: I feel like it would be mostly the same game but would take a page from the Twin Snakes’ book and improve on the graphics + gameplay by taking ideas from other entries in the series... if and only if Konami took it seriously and did not do to it what they did to the Silent Hill HD Collection — or worse, whatever they did with Metal Gear Survive.

But I don’t trust Konami at all. So. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

*This is a real estimate, you actually have to beat the game in under 5 hours — ~1 hr per chapter — on the highest difficulty with no alerts/rations/etc. for the “Big Boss” ranking and the platinum trophy.

So, there was a remaster of Saints Row The Third recently. And as a hardcore fan, who played every game in the franchise (except the first one, which I believe was made for Xbox 360? And the PS3 relise never saw the light of day. But that doesn’t matter, since I have only PS4 and PC), I decided that I NEED to see what they’ve made to the game. I think that the remaster was made by a company named Sperasoft (which is a russian company. Well, at least they have an hq in Saint Petersburg and one of the founders is russian). Saints Row The Third is one of my fav in the SR franchise. And I’ve played it a lot. Like, A LOT.

What can I say about the remaster?

Good things:

Every texture is a high res now. Everything looks sharp and clean, and pretty. All of the menus and texts, icons and stuff now has sharp edges, it’s detailed and clear.

Everything in the environment looks nice, textures of the buildings and stuff. The grass, ground and trees are much more detailed now. The light effects, shines and reflections are beautiful. Weather effects are good too, like the rain and the fog. The skybox is pretty neat. Sunsets and sunrises now really cool, the fact that you can see the sun and the moon AND they emanate light - is awesome. I think the light effects are the really big thing they’ve upgraded, and there’s like, realistic light effects.

The models of the citizens and the background characters in the cutscenes are now looking good. Like, that dude who hands Monica Hughes her scissors, are now looking cute af, and not like he has a sack of potato spuds instead of a head. I was genuenely happy for him. I was like, look at that helpful little cutie, you take the scissors from him, lady, don’t upset my little dude! I also think they may have added some animations for those pedestrians and people around you, but I may be wrong...

The models of main characters are now looking a bit different, they’re more real-like looking, and have detailed textures and stuff. Some characters look completely different from the original. Like Сyrus Temple or Phillipe Loren, for example. They’ve been improved drastically.

Cars. The cars in the game are now looking very cool. Like, I was amazed at the way they look now in the modification menu, and I spent a lot of time just modifying cars, because I liked the way they look and I’m a sucker for some muscle cars...

Now to the bad things...

Bad Things:

Some things were still pixelated af. Like, for instance, comic pages in the cutscene with Pierce in the store. They were so bad looking compared to everything else, it was upsetting.

There were some instances when I’ve encountered “floating” structures. Like, boxes, some S.T.A.G. crates, ladders or borders that float like 4-5 inches above the ground. I don’t know if that was like it was in the original, but... Yeah.

There’s a lot of grass. AN INSANE amount of grass sometimes. And it’s placement MAKES ZERO SENSE. Like, I was driving on a bridge, on a highway, and in the spot where the bridge road connects to the street - grass. There was like a huge spot of tall grass bushes poking through asphalt. Like, it wasnt a place, where the asphalt is old and cracked, and weared down, where weeds and plants can take over and sprout. It was a MIDDLE of the road. There’s also has been a spot, same thing, paved area infront of the house which was flooded with ferns. Why? Who the heck knows. FERNS.

Some characters now do not look like themselves. And I’d exuse it if their facial animation was good, but they look kind of dead. Sometimes their eyebrows don’t move at all, and the eyebrows is the most expressive part of our face. Like, really. Shaundi now has this constant resting bitch face and I know, she kind of had this expression in the original. But I think all the main characters were more expressive and animated there, than in the remaster. It seems like, new models don’t move their faces the same way. Even the Boss had kind of a dead expression in some of the cutscenes, though I confess they were animated more than the others. (there was something wrong with their eyes though. Light was hiting them a wrong way or something like that. My dude had some sharp lines around his eyes, and I couldn’t figure out if those were eyelashes or what??) Now, because of this lack of animation, the voice acting did not match the movement of the mouth. Sometimes characters looked like fishes flapping their mouths. No articulation whatsoever. Sadly this was not consistant through the game, some cutscenes looked good and the characters’s faces in them were animated well, in others - no. Also, some remade characters looked good. Like I said Cyrus and Loren now look improved. Kinzie looks nice. (I was about to talk about Killbane, but I, like an idiot did not unmask him, by a stupid mistake! So I have no idea how his freaking face looks like. But I will unmask this son of a gun, and I’ll see...). They also kind of re-made Oleg, he now has much softer look to him, but man, his eyes look weird, like his eyelids and shape of the eye looks odd, like, triangular. Do not like that. Do not like how Shaundi’s face looks now. Pierce’s face would be fine, IF he had more emotions to him, he has none. Gat looks okay, but like, he “dies” in the first ten minutes, so what does that matter? Lol. I can talk about others faces even more, but, yeah, the main complaint - lack of facial animation.

The colours of the cars are much darker now, so I can’t re-create my banana-mobile now }: ( The banana-yellow now looks like muddy mustard, baby poop and shit... That upsets me deeply.

All in all, I was okay playing the game and I still like it nontheless. I was happy to play through it again with my Boss Ion and to see all the characters, hear the lines and stuff. BUT, it seemed to me, that whenever there was something good and the things were improved, a part of them was raw and incomplete. Like, they made this part better, but forgot to fix this part, they upgraded this, but forgot to upgrade the following thing. It felt like some parts were missing. And that this remaster needed to be polished more. I mean, at the first glance it looks cool. It really does. But then you start to look closer and you notice these imperfections and they kind of ruin everything good that was made.

Maybe I am being nitpicky, I dunno. I sincerely wish nothing but improvement for the Volition team. I’d be glad if they saw this, I guess. But maybe it’d be better if they don’t }XD Cuz, I mean, I think it would be cooler to make a remaster of SR2 AND\OR make a port of SR1 for PC. I’m just sayn’...

This is me live-blogging to the original Pokemon the First Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back comparing it to the Netflix Mewtwo Strikes Back: Evolution that I watch two days ago. It was kind of fun to type this up. Maybe I'll live blog another movie sometime, lol 😅

Enjoy, or not... 😘

(I'm not going to put a spoiler warning because literally nothing has changed from the original overall. They added a few things and they took away some lines, but it's the same movie at the end of the day)

First, I was wrong the prologue is roughly the same length. It just is even more boring in the new one than it was in the old one so it felt even longer because I typically skip the prologue whenever I watch it. ((I don't want to go on blast, but the only Pokemon movie prologue that I watch is the Pokemon 3 prologue, that's it. Pokemon 3 underrated. It's the best movie. But they remade this one so this is where I'm at.))

One thing I've noticed 10 minutes into the original is that there is no second where there's no music and that's what really frustrated me during the remake. There's so much time when there's absolutely no music or the music is really quiet that it's barely there. It was really depressing and I could not get invested in almost any of the typical scenes you get invested in because I was so disconnected from the film. And it's not even the official Pokemon the First Movie soundtrack songs that I was missing. It was just the score. This movie's score is so amazing and we couldn't even relive that again. So, that kind of killed the entire Evolution remake for me. And now I'm very happy to hear this music.

I press play and then I hadn't even gotten to the song yet, but I do want to point out that during the remake the movie made me feel kind of stupid when they were introducing us to Brock and Misty in the scene of them before lunch, because obviously when the original movie came out they just assumed everybody knew all the characters, so I understand for new kids who don't know who Misty and Brock are they probably need to introduce them, but I did not appreciate it. But also I feel like the original scene, when they're sitting at the table already and Ash is just bored and starving is good enough to introduce the characters. I didn't need a whole extra scene before lunch.

On a sidenote: I hated Misty's voice in the new film. Hated it. Sorry. Especially the lines that were the same to the original I disliked it even more. Which really isn't abnormal with remakes, I just didn't like how her lines were spoken. Or the pitch of her voice.

The joke they had about Ash battling before breakfast or lunch, or whatever falls flat in comparison to Brock's joke about Ashes mouth still working before the battle as well.

And I don't know why they had Pikachu noticing the camera in the remake, because Pikachu doesn't figure out what's going on before hand.. So there's no point in him noticing something above them, you know?

I'm so nit-picky.. I'm sure they just had to change a certain amount of things to feel like it was its own movie, but it's wasn't necessary. Obviously, it was a cash grab, but still- not necessary.

And you're telling me after 20+ years they couldn't use the same remake of the song!? They were working 'with' The Pokemon Company and they couldn't use that song? Or did they not want to? Bad decision. 😔

I'm one of those people who likes the opening, but I love it when they remake it and turn it into something 'else', up the bass, give me more background singers, lol. I really accept different versions of the song though I prefer this movie's version a lot of the time. I like it when they remake all the openings for the first 10 films they redo most of the openings and I love it. I like all the openings up until Black and White and I like all the film remakes of them, so I wasn't against them redoing the song a different way...but I feel like this battle this scene is iconic why would you change that? Plus, it just felt like a cheap knockoff of this version...

Ash's voice overs (in the video) are part of the song to me 😂 "Great job Bulbasaur, you did it!" 🥰

While we're still at the scene I thought in the remake James has 'look at that spread' joke fell flat because they didn't show us close-up of them eating so I was kind of confused, maybe that's just me. Overall, Team Rocket puns throughout the remake are questionable to me. They don't really flow as well as they do in the original.. Man, I'm so mean to this remake, but it's true.

Back on that music thing. When Nurse Joy invites them to Mewtwo's party the music that plays behind her invitation speech is perfect and then when they get off it's silent, but you can hear the birds chirping you can hear noise behind them and that makes their world seem so much bigger. And that was lacking in the new version of the film.

On another note, I know that technically in both films we are completely aware that it is Mewtwo who was behind everything, but it feels much more ominous when we don't see him until he appears coming 'down the stairs'. So, in the remake when they showed him responding to Nurse Joy.. I didn't care for that.

I want to say though, out of context the art of the Pokemon in the remake is amazing. If it was just that someone made 3DCG animation pictures based on the original: 10 out of 10. I'm thinking about the screenshot of Mew in the bubble. It is beautiful in 3D CG, absolutely beautiful, but I still am old school and I prefer the original animation overall.

The scene with the harbor manager was not one that I paid much attention to, because it's not one that I usually pay much attention too (and I was bored out of my mind by that point). So, I don't have much to say in comparison.

The Viking jokes are indeed outdated, but I still like them, lol

Regardless, there is still background music, even at this point in the film. I say this, not only because they are having a comedic scene with lots of puns and jokes, but there is also a rainstorm going on in the background. So it'd be easy to just not have any music, because you already have background noise, but no there is also a score.

Brock calling out Nurse Joy when they arrive to New Island in the remake rubbed me the wrong way, like it was out of nowhere, but I think it was the lack of background music. I feel like that whole movie's issue is the lack of background music. There's nothing to set the tone, so everything's just kind of 'meh'.

They had some fancy doors in the new one, lol

But the original has creaky, scary doors 😉

Mew theme makes me smile 🥰

Prosser props ardeal ready there's a whole list; one it's Pidgeot, two Brock hits on the girl when they arrive, and three (kind of early but) Team Rocket gets Sycther correct during their impromptu game of 'Whose That Pokemon??' 😂

Intimidating background music, I love you.

I like how in this scene Mewtwo explains that he removed the memories of Nurse Joy. Whereas, in the remake, he implies that 'of course she would forget everything that happened', as if he wouldn't want her to, that was weird.

The original's colors and music make this movie feel so much more high stakes than the Remake does. And the voice work is just so natural. It's not overplayed, it's not underplayed, it's just perfect and that's because it's the original, but it's how I feel. For example (I'm going to jump ahead because I still remember watching the remake and being so disappointed) when Ash jumped down the tunnel after the ball that captures Pikachu and he's yelling in the original, but he doesn't do that in the remake and that broke my heart. The yell in the original was so desperate and determined, and in the remake it's so weak.

I can't remember if in the remake they use the same line when Brock says that Mewtwo is going to destroy humans and save Pokemon and Mewtwo corrects him. I honestly can't remember, but that plays a big part in who Mewtwo is as a character and villain. He's not saving Pokemon, he is destroying the entire world to remake it in his image... but I can't remember how they do it in the remake so I can't say, lol

Why do they never tell the other three side characters names in the movie? They don't do it in the original or in the remake, but I'm pretty sure they're listed in the credits, 😓

Charizard's a buttface and I love him (but he's even better in Pokemon 3)

I did notice in the Evolution version that they didn't use the Brock's line of 'carrying the Pokemon away' after Ash's suggestion of putting them in the pokeballs failed. I kind of thought they should have had that line.

And, again, I don't know if maybe it's the music- but the version of the chase in the original feels a lot more hectic and crazy and fast, versus the new version where it kind of feels like it takes more time and it's not as urgent, but maybe that's just me.

"You're not gonna' get Pikachuuuuuu!!!" 🥰🥰🥰

Not going to lie, I don't remember the remake version of when he gets Pikachu out of the Pokeball and the Machine breaks. I don't remember it. I do remember that the release of his Pokemon is relatively the same- if not the same, but I can't remember him in the machine pulling on the ball and chewing on the arms. I don't know if that happened 😅 I don't know why it wouldn't, but this is the moment in the remake where I realized the lack of music. It took me this long to understand why I just didn't care and this was the moment. He didn't yell in the tunnel like he does in the original and then he got in the lab and he was telling Team Rocket that he did not have time for them at that moment and I just thought something was missing and it was the music.

In this scene, if he did not say anything to Team Rocket I would have thought he didn't even see them. He was so focused on getting Pikachu back.

Team Rocket has great puns, they hit right in this movie. In Evolution it feels like they tried, but they didn't stand a chance.

I don't think the remake does this either, but Charizard never reappeared and Ash was like "You're all alright!", but where is Charizard??

So, when Mewtwo's clones appear there's a big explosion, but it's quiet--but when Ash and the originals return it brings up that loud, marching, hero entrance music. There was music in the remake, but it wasn't like a Hero's Return kind of music. It was really quiet it was pretty, but it didn't give that same powerful feeling 😓

On that note, I also don't remember the scene right after yet before Mew appears in the remake. Does Evolution!Ash try to punch Mewtwo and get thrown back into a wall? He must because I saw him climbing down, but I did not notice. I all I was completely spaced off 😅

I like Meowth's commentary in this version better. It's worded so well and the overview is just perfect.

Brother, My Brother. 😭 They had instrumental music during this scene in the remake even though there are plenty of songs out there that you could use in this scene (that are not this specific song, but they didn't even try). And the instrumental music they had was quiet even in the midst of the big fighting versus when it gets to the slow motion scenes of the fight where you get like really really sad because it's just terrible what's going on. I don't think the remake had any music, whereas the original does have really strong long notes and they they stretch on and you see it it emphasizes what's going on in this scene and how painful the fighting is and I felt like there was no feeling in the remake.

The side characters commentary in the remake is different from the original and I feel like (I don't want to sit here and say the original is better but it is) in the commentary in the remake they mainly kept repeating that the pokemon were clones and we already knew that, versus in the original they're explaining that they're all living creatures and that forcing them to fight because of how they came into the world is wrong.

Meowth's commentary with Meowth is spot-on and it hits me hard. I wish they kept that too they changed that and I don't know why they changed that.

Weird observation, but I feel like Ash's climbing in the original.. the wall is so big and makes him look so small and in the remake he did not look nearly as tiny. Which isn't like a criticism it's just a thing that I thought of just now.

I don't think they had a Ash watching Pikachu in the remake like they do in the original..and that builds to the point in which Ash will run out there. I do not remember this much focus on Pikachu's battle when Ash was climbing down, but I could have not been paying attention too so..

"Someone's got to say 'no' and refuse to fight, just like Pikachu." 😭😭

Okay, before I go on to bawl my eyes out (because I can't stand it when Pikachu cries and this scene has torn me apart since the first time I saw it and it will continue to tear me apart because I'm weak). I did really like that in the remake you can hear Pikachu sobbing the entire time they go through all the other Pokemon crying. You can hear Pikachu crying the entire time and I did cry because that was sad. 💔😭😭😭

Just thinking about Pikachu's sobs hurts! 😭😭

"I see now that the circumstances of one's birth are irrelevant, it's what you do with the gift of life that determines who you are." A perfect quote is indeed perfect and was not touched- wise decision Evolution 😘

This is actually the last scene where I paid any specific attention, so it's really the last thing I can comment on... so I'll probably just stop this commentary here.

If you read this: props to you, it was a nice ramble.

I don't know if I can rate Evolution, because the only thing that it really had going for it specifically is it's animation and I didn't even really like the animation that much.

I'll be nice, 6/10. If anyone thinks it deserves higher let me know. 3/5 stars. I'd probably have rated it higher if it had a better score. And if the new jokes actually made sense.

Hello! I've recently seen a lot of discussion that seems to be surrounding JttW, particularly on your blog. While I've only read the (translated) original work, it seems that it would be worth looking into some different adaptations. I'm not sure how knowledgeable you are about what to look into, but I'd love to hear any suggestions you may have about where to start, or even some of the better remakes, etc.

Oh hi lordofthegauntlets!! Sure thing, Journey to the West is one my fav shows that’s been made and remade over and over but I’ll never get sick of it.

The classic cartoons are a good place to start cos they’re just so choice. 1964 Havoc in Heaven (or mandarin Uproar in Heaven with eng subtitle) focuses only on Sun Wukong with that iconic red-painted face and high pitched voice, all done to popping beijing opera tunes. Despite being so old, it holds up very well and is so rewatchable. It starts with Wukong already trained in magic and the Monkey King of Flower Fruit Mountain. He goes on an adventure that ends with him getting spurned and singlehandedly trashing heaven, then going home to be beloved by monkeys everywhere. 11/10.

1999 JttW, since I grew up watching this one, is my personal Definitive Version with 54 eps. The animation is more modern (but still from 1999 lol), it’s a full, mostly faithful adaption. Zhu Bajie (Pigsy), Sha Wujing (Sandy) and Tang Sanzang (Tripitaka) and Monkey go to the west while protecting master from demons who want to eat him. Sun Wukong in basically the coolest, smartest, cutest demon ever here and the opening and ending songs are BANGERS. I love it, though it might not be for everyone cos the animation does get a bit wonky.

Here it is in full in mandarin with eng subtitle (but gotta turn the subtitle on). Be aware the first eight eps about the Havoc in Heaven has a different art style than the rest of the story where they journey west. Just because.

Here it is in a not great english dub starting at the beginning of the journey west, but sadly it skips past the Havoc in Heaven (and it’s cut weird, and it sucked out all the dramatic chinese filial piety beats™ lol).

1996 JttW aka Hong Kong JttW aka the Definitive JttW for Cantonese speakers. It’s a live action series subbed in english on kissasian. This one flows really good and has a way of storytelling that’s really easy to follow. Sun Wukong does some sick flips and looks handsome, Bajie is lovelorn, Wujing is mentally impaired in this version but still a good bro, Tripitaka is compassionate but stern. It’s a less faithful adaption because of storyline changes, but it really doesn’t matter at all because it 100% captures the spirit of JttW! The journey west happens around 7 eps in, after the Havoc in Heaven arc.

Saiyuki is Japanese manga where the writer decided that the pilgrims needed to be Hot™ and Angsty™ bishounen boys with tragic backstories on a road trip with their pet dragon that turns into a jeep. And somehow this works Great. Tripitaka is Genjo Sanzo, a cynical gun-toting monk (this has guns and shit, it’s hardcore), Sun Wukong is Son Goku, an innocent teenage demon wearing a diadem that seals his awesome demonic powers, Bajie is Hakkai who is kind and intellectual, Wujing is Gojyo, an alcoholic and womaniser. (Yes Bajie and Wujing’s personalities are swapped in this version.) Together they will stop the demons from destroying the world. The art gets better as you go on and there are a few sequels and a tragic prequel (but read the original one first to get that full punch in the gut). If you need some of that good, buddhist angst, this is it.

2015 Monkey King Hero is Back is a recent animated movie that’s amazing and a lot of people swooned over Sun Wukong (a monkey) in this version who feels older, is more mature and is slightly beaten down by life (aka: Mountain to the back for 500 years). It’s essentially a JttW de-aged AU where Tripitaka is like an eight year old boy and….Wukong has to be The Adult. This is the first version ever that really uses Wukong’s monkey physicality to his advantage in fight scenes. I love it heaps and I’m still waiting for the sequel.

1986 JttW (eng sub) is usually considered the definitive adaption for mainland China all thanks to its really iconic Sun Wukong and it being the first long-running Chinese JttW adaption. It’s quite faithful to the book. But I left it last on the list cos it’s quite dated now and to someone who has never seen it before: it’s weird as hell. (Partly because live action just forces you to realise how absolutely nutty this story is.) Sun Wukong genuinely looks and acts like a monkey here - even more so than the cartoon versions!

PLL ‘Till DeAth Do Us PArt’

Well, this is it. The final episode of Pretty Little Liars. I'll be honest, I had very low expectations for the finale. And I was even more disappointed than I expected to be. I guess some part of me hoped that we'd get lots of answers, and I’d be able to go back and rewatch from the beginning and piece it all together. But of course that didn’t happen. I’ve had some time to process it all and I didn’t hate it as much as I thought I did. The finale was a ridiculous mess but I did enjoy it. It was just a bit unsatisfying. I don’t know what else I expected from the show though. And don’t get me started on the full circle ending. So, here goes. The final ever analysis of a new PLL episode.

The beginning of the episode was so… odd. The Liars are just chatting. Their conversation was really weird. About frozen panties or some shit. Then Lucas comes along tap dancing. Umm??? I did not expect that to be the last we saw of Lucas. And then Jenna comes along riding on a horse. Okay?? And then it starts snowing… and it was just Mona looking into a snow globe. Imagine if the episode had ended like that??? If it was all Mona’s imagination. That would have actually been amazing! Anyway, the person in the back hoodie comes to visit Mona (in Welby I think she was) and she says she never would have guessed it was them. It must have been Wren!

All of the girls doing the shhh in the opening credits was amazing!! The perfect way to end the beginning of the final episode.

The first half of the episode focused on all the ships. I found myself getting bored for the majority of it. It was pretty much just fan service. And it felt different. It had a very different vibe.

Ezria were planning their wedding. I am so happy they acknowledged Aria’s ugly cry!! That was amazing! Aria can’t have kids. It was heartbreaking when she broke down and told Ezra. And they had that song that was playing when they found Maya’s body. Why are they messing with my emotions like this??

A year later, Emison have twins. Twin girls. Seriously, how many twin girls are there in Rosewood?? Okay, they’re just acting like a family and forgetting the fact that A.D violated Ali like that. Ali proposed. Which was pretty sweet, but I still don’t care. They do make a cute family, but I'm sorry, I just cannot support their relationship after everything that has happened.

I am so happy that Melissa was back!! I was so, so excited to see her in the black hoodie! That was everything I ever wanted! But… my heart sunk when it was revealed it was only Mona wearing a very realistic looking mask. Anyway, it was great to get to see Melissa in a black hoodie at least once. It really suited her. It was a missed opportunity not making her A.

Spoby! Spencer and Toby have always been my OTP and we got some great Spoby scenes. Or so I thought. I got so emotional when they were playing Scrabble. My Spoby heart! That is how they first bonded. That was the beginning of Spoby. They had their first kiss the morning after the first time they played Scrabble. And the S scrabble piece necklace that Toby gave her. Scrabble is their thing. I got really emotional watching that. ‘Limerence’. That was the final word of their game. The kind of unrequited love. My heart!! There were so many great Spoby scenes on the episode. But to think none of them were actually Spoby.

Haleb. I’m so bored of them. Don’t have much to say about them. Mona caused some drama in their relationship. Hanna was trying tog get pregnant. And in the end she did. Pretty boring typical stuff. So much unnecessary drama. We all know they’re going to have happy endings.

Umm, the HBO level sex. Okay… Lol I was cringing so hard at those scenes. And the music… Just, I was questioning what I was watching?

The Lost Woods Resort has been remade. It’s no longer a creepy place. It was nice to see them all chatting like adults for once. All of them together.

So, Addison is the new Alison. A bitchy mean girl. She is exactly how Alison used to be. And she has her own clique, with 4 other girls. It’s literally the Liars all over again. And a new A for their generation. I’m not sure how I feel about that whole thing. One of them is Maya’s niece. Jenna though. I love her! “I can smell a bitch a mile away.” ICONIC!

Mona! So, she has been working for A.D. She was told to wear the Melissa mask and spy on the Liars. And this whole time she’s had no idea who A.D was.

Mary is still in prison. When Spencer met with her it was so weird. That’s when I started to suspect that maybe that wasn’t Spencer. Their conversation was odd and full of twin clues.

The Wine Moms!! They mentioned the basement but we still don’t know how they got out! So good to see them get drunk together again. They need a spin off show!

So Spencer just threw herself at Toby. It made my Spoby heart happy, but none of this was actually even Spoby! I am so mad. Spoby shippers were robbed by this ending.

When Spencer was back in the barn, when just a second ago she was with Toby, that’s when I knew for sure they were going there. And when Mona slapped her. “De ja vu bitch!” OMG!!! And then she woke up in the strange room. It was like the Dollhouse all over again.

They went there!! They actually went there! Twincer/Spencerietta is confirmed!! Spencer was staring at her reflection and her reflection did something different and I was shaking. I can't believe they actually went there! I knew it, but I still hoped it would be something better.

Alex Drake. Spencer’s twin sister. She lived in London. She happened to meet Wren one day when he came into the bar she worked at. He was convinced it was Spencer. He’s always had a thing for her. He ordered a vodka soda which is what Spencer ordered back in S1. Omg I was dying at this point!! Wren has always had a thing for the Hasting sisters. Omg.

Alex didn’t know about anything. She didn’t know she had a twin sister. She didn’t know she had another sister Charlotte. She didn’t know her mother was Mary Drake. Wren told her everything and that’s when it all started. When A.D began.

Okay, so wasn’t Wren living with Melissa in London?? How did Melissa have no idea about Alex?? Remember when Spencer visited Melissa in London. Was that actually Alex?? I am so confused.

Okay, so to get this straight. Alex Drake is Spencer’s twin sister. She’s British (Troian did an amazing job but her accent sounded a bit off at times). She wanted revenge for her sister Charlotte’s death. Wren helped her. She is A.D.

When Hanna saw Spencer when she was locked in that barn, that was Alex. She was one looking at the Hastings photo albums. She was the one who kissed Toby when he was about to leave. She’s the one who seduced him in the cabin. And she was the one at the airport with Wren. They were arguing. That’s why that scene was so awkward when they saw Ezra.

Alex was jealous of Spencer’s life. She wanted to become Spencer. She wanted her life. Very similar to Ali and Courtney in the books. Alex wanted a friendship like what Spencer has.

I have always loved Wrencer. I always kind of wished they’d get back together at some point. But this is not what I expected. I loved it though! Alex is a crazy bitch and made Wren shoot her in the same place Spencer was shot. Fuck this is what I always wanted in a villain on this show. I love it!!

I AM SO FUCKING MAD THAT THEY KILLED WREN!!! Alex that crazy bitch killed him and turned his ashes into a diamond! OH MY FUCKING GOD!!! That was the final straw. She is a fucking psychopath and I love her but I can’t believe she killed Wren. He’s now a fucking diamond I want to cry.

She kidnapped Ezra as well. And Ezria’s wedding was almost ruined. Aria’s wedding dress was so ugly. Who decided on that ugly dress??

Wren is the father of Emison’s babies! I fucking knew it!! Well, I guess the only good thing is as well as living forever as a diamond, he will also live on in the twins. Alex always knew he’d make beautiful babies.

So, what was Mary’s game? Whose side was she on? She says she didn’t know if Alex was even alive. She was taken right after she was born. Well, Mary sold her to get out of Radley. I love Mary and Spencer’s relationship and I just hope that it really was real. After everything Spencer deserves a real mother.

So, Ezra and Spencer are locked in ‘some do it yourself dungeon’. I was laughing at how ridiculous the whole things was.

So, now that Wren is dead Spencer wants Toby. SHe’s obsessed with him and wants to be Spencer so that he will love her. That’s some messed up shit and I love it!

So Sara was basically irrelevant?? We never got to know her motive. Was she kidnapped or not? Where are the answers??

Charlotte met Archer Dunhill on the flight to Paris. She’d been in contact with Wren and met Alex at the airport. That flashback was great! So, that was how they met and how they became such good friends.

Okay, so the whole thing with Archer marrying Alison was nothing to do with Alex or A.D or any fucking thing. This is just leaving me with more questions. I am so confused.

Charlotte wanted to keep playing the game. Playing with her dolls. Alex wanted too help. Their relationship was sweet and the goodbye was sad. (And why were there English flags behind them. We know they're in London, you don’t need to keep reminding us!!!)

That was the last time Charlotte and Alex saw each other. That’s why she became A.D. Charlotte told her all about what the Liars did. And what she did to them. And Alex wanted revenge because she blamed them for Charlotte’s death. Okay, yes. A very simple motive. That makes sense. Unlike CeCe’s motive which I still don’t completely understand. But as well as her motive, which I understand, she’s just psychopath who wants to hurt people. Which is everything I wanted A to be.

Spencer’s horse was the first one to find out that Spencer wasn’t Spencer. Animals are smart like that. Then finally Toby started to notice something was off. But Jenna was the next to figure it out. A horse and a blind girl figured it out before anyone else.

And then it took them about 5 seconds to realise that Spencer has an evil twin. Really?? They’ve been wondering who A.D is for years and it takes them 5 seconds to figure it out??

Alex with the axe was everything I wanted in a villain on this show. THIS is the A I wanted! A psychotic bitch who just wants revenge. She doesn’t want people to feel sorry for her because of her tragic backstory. She just wants to hurt people and laugh about it. THIS is what I have always wanted! As cringey and cliche as this whole ting was I loved every minute of it! When she went form British to American accent I got chills! Aaaaaaah! Remember the spoilers that said Wren was A and he dropped his accent mid sentence?? We got that but it was Alex not Wren but it was everything I wanted (almost)! I was living for crazy Alex!

So the Dollhouse 2.0 was actually the house that Toby built. The one he was building for Spencer. Alex bought it, and made the Dollhouse 2.0. It’s completely underground. There was a tunnel system and everything. And an artificial sky. It was so creepy but so cool! I wish we could have seen more of it. The others went to the house and it literally looked like Spencer’s house. Seriously, it’s Dollhouse 2.0.

I LOVED the showdown between the twins where Alex copied everything Spencer said, trying to imitate her as best as she could. And then the others arrived and Toby aimed his gun at them, but he couldn’t tell who was who. That reminded me of something but I could not remember what. And then it came to me. It’s literally a scene from Hannah Montana. When Miley’s evil cousin was pretending to be Hannah Montana and Oliver and Lilly couldn't tell which was the real Miley. Yep, very original scene haha!

When they figured out which was the real Spencer by asking what her favourite poem is I started crying. The whole thing was ridiculous and stupid, but it made me so emotional. They finally caught A.D. Finally after all this time it’s all over.

The Ezria wedding was beautiful I’ll admit. Not because I necessarily like them, but because they were all together. They were all happy. A.D was not there to ruin anything anymore. And wtf was Marlene's cameo?? I couldn’t stop laughing omg!!! And she did the shhh!?!!

The Liars right at the end ruined me. It was a goodbye to them. This is the last we are going to see of them. And they’re all happy. For the first time in their lives they are actually all happy. I was crying. It’s the end. I’ve grown up with these characters. This is the end of an era.

And Mona got a happy ending too. She is living in Paris. She has a French boyfriend/husband (who I just realised is the cop that came and arrested Alex. On my rewatch I realised he had a French accent in that scene). She has Mary and Alex in her very own Dollhouse. Mona got the real happy ending.

And then the ending we pretend never happened (I rewatched the episode on Australian TV and this scene wasn’t even in it). It came ‘full circle’, as Marlene says. It was literally word for word, scene for scene, from the pilot, except with Addison and her group of friends. What was the actually point of that??

So, overall I didn’t hate it. I actually quite enjoyed it. I was really confused and disappointed when I first finished watching the episode, but after taking some time to process it all I didn’t think it was terrible. I mean, it was still a mess. A huge fucking mess. And it left more questions than answers. But it was a fun and ridiculous ending to the show.

One thing that confused me was that Alex was the name of Spencer’s first boyfriend. Seriously, they could have used a different name that started with A. There are tons of different names! Or did they just forget about him? I always joked that Alex might be A. And hey, Alex did end up being A.D!

Troian did a fantastic job!!! If anyone was going to have a twin, I’m so glad it was Spencer. Troian is a fantastic actress and made it believable. Her accent was a bit off at times but overall Troian was incredible!! She was the saving grace of the episode to be honest.

We all knew Twincer/Spencerietta was confirmed, but a part of me wished it would be something more exciting, like Wren or Melissa. I loved that Wren was a part of it, but it was a missed opportunity not make him and Melissa working together as A/A.D. That would have been amazing! Wren has been my number 1 suspect since the beginning. The thing I’m most upset about in the finale is that Wren is dead and was turned into A FUCKING DIAMOND!! I am so mad. I can forgive lots of things on this show, but not that. That just crossed the line.

There are still so many questions though. What was Ali doing for the 2 years she was ‘dead’? That is one thing I really wanted to know. Did Sara Harvey willing help CeCe or was she kidnapped? Did Melissa have anything to do with A/A.D?? Because from the episode it seems like she didn’t but she was always so sketchy? And how did she know nothing about Alex when she was living with Wren? What ever happened to Eddie Lamb?? What did Bethany’s drawings mean? I was hoping we would learn more about Bethany. Why did Alex impregnate Ali with Emily’s eggs? Was she just a big Emison shipper? I do not understand. We still never found out who Beach Hottie was. And what was the deal with the NAT club? How did Alex make the board game?? Was it Alex with Caleb or did Spaleb actually happen? Did Wren know Archer? How did Alex kill Wren? And most importantly HOW DID THE WINE MUMS GET OUT OF THE BASEMENT??

I’m sure there are many more questions but thats all I can think of right now. Overall I’m actually sad that this is over. It’s been a part of my life 5 years. I’ve wasted so much time searching for clues and theorising. I feel like I’ve grown up with these characters and cast. I am so glad I’m free from this train wreck but a part of me is sad that there won’t be anymore new episodes. I’m going to miss this show. It has frustrated me to no end but I’m sad to say goodbye. This fandom is amazing. We’ve turned this train wreck of a show into memes and inside jokes, and written theories and fan fiction that are so much better than the actual show. This show pretty much makes absolutely no sense. I don’t even know how to explain the premise of this show to others. I wold not recommend watching this show to anyone because in the end it still makes absolutely no sense. But I’m glad I’ve watched it. It was a great experience watching each new episode live. I’ve loved discussing and theorising and making of fun of it with other fans. I feel like no one understands why I love this show. I sometimes wonder myself. But I think it’s partly because it feels like a family. The core of Pretty Little Liars is friendship and I feel like that’s what my relationship with the show is. The fandom is like one big friendship group.

So thank you PLL. Thank you for 5 years of my life I’ll never get back. Thank you for taking me on this rollercoaster of a journey that never really made any sense. Thank you for these characters and for the cast. Thank you for being something that I looked forward to each week. Thank you for being a part of my life. I’ll miss you. You will always have a place in my heart.
