Can I please rant about season 2 episode 13 of Doctor Who? Of course be weary of spoilers as I'm about to go on a rant so feel free to scroll if you haven't seen it yet (*cough* Bex *cough*)
You're probably neurodivergent or queer? Boom that's the spoiler (not really but I just wanted to say it since I have to put so many spaces)
.
.
Ok surely that's enough space. I hope it is anyway. So this whole time I thought Rose was going to die but that's so much worse. She's alive in another universe unable to see the Doctor again. And then I've been waiting for them to say they love each other this whole time, but AAA. Fucking Rose could but the Doctor just had to say so many more words and he didn't get to say it. That's so sad and I just wanna cry over this. How is romance separation sadder than death?
But at least now I'll be able to meet this Donna person that is cute with the Doctor or something. I'm excited to meet her though

aaargh the way davies era doctor who treats the companions is soooo good they've got their own lives outside the doctor they've got their own families who are actually fleshed out and are characters in their own right. moffat didn't fucking GET IT it's not about just one alien dude it's about people it's about their lives it's about the mess the doctor causes and how it disrupts the lives of people who don't want their lives disrupted.
i did watch all of amy & rory's episodes as they came out (i even remember the absolutely stupid way they died) but the way they don't really have lives outside of the doctor (until it's time for that to cause narrative friction LOL) makes them feel so much less real. i know part of the plot is that amy's parents got erased but she didn't grow up alone in that house and i couldn't tell you a single thing about [looking up who the fuck raised her on tardis.wiki] "aunt sharon"
and it's hard not to see the contrast to jackie tyler, widowed mum who drinks hot tea in her kinda shitty flat, who flirts with younger(-looking) men, who only had nice things to say about her daughter's father despite them actually having a turbulent relationship, who is rightfully livid at the doctor for stealing her daughter away, who is obviously so lonely and vents her frustrations realistically and who shouts at people when she's upset with them. she feels like a real person, and the way rose loves her, worries about her, phones her, comes home to her, argues with her... it adds so much to both of their characters and the doctor is part of their lives but he's not the focal point of everything. rose is the main character a lot of the time and she gets to have an actual web of relationships like one.
meanwhile amy & rory didn't even go home to consummate their marriage, they fucked in the tardis and that's a real plot point and okay yeah it's kinda funny. it is objectively funny that conceiving a child in the tardis makes that child part time lord. but it's not supposed to be funny, or at least i didn't read it that way, because then the next whole fucking season (or was it two?) is dedicated to all the cosmic consequences that come with the existence of that child and then reveals oh we already met this character but grown-up. we've known them for a really long time actually but we've kept all the backstory secret to keep you guessing. isn't that clever? it's a time travel show so you get to see things out of order! it's a mystery with no clues so we can definitely 100% wow you with the answer when we pull it out of our asses! annoying.
sorry what huh "media analysis"? no i'm just bitching don't worry about it. you scroll past now 👋 byebye

Ultimate Doctor Who Poll Round 2 - Matchup 21
Episode Summaries under the cut
Tumblr media
7: The Day of the Doctor - 50th Anniversary Special: The Doctor is brought by UNIT to a gallery with Kate Stewart, where he and Clara see a Gallifreyan 3D painting, which reminds him of the last day of the Time War. Back during the Time War, the War Doctor steals a weapon called The Moment, said to be so powerful it developed sentience. He plans to use it to end the Time War. The moment's consciousness appears in the form of Rose Tyler and offers to show the Doctor his future if he destroys Gallifrey, opening a portal.
The Eleventh Doctor is brought into the Under-Gallery where there is a letter from Queen Elizabeth I warning him of danger and a painting of him in his Tenth Incarnation, as well as other 3D paintings of landscapes with the glass holding the paintings broken and the figures that were in the landscapes having escaped from the paintings. In the past, The Tenth Doctor deals with a Zygon impersonating Elizabeth, unsure of which is the real one.
Portals open for both Doctors and the Eleventh Doctor jumps through, landing in front of the Tenth. The two Elizabeths run off in opposite directions, and then the War Doctor comes through the portal, surprising both the other Doctors. The queens soldiers surround them, with one of the Elizabeths ordering their capture, having killed the other one.
Imprisoned in the Tower of London, the Doctors sort through their feelings on the time war while they try to figure out a way to escape. The Eleventh Doctor starts carving time-space coordinates into the wall. While initially unable to use the sonic screwdriver to open the primitive wooden door, they realize that if they use the War Doctor's screwdriver to scan it and perform a calculation to disintegrate the door, by the time he is the Eleventh Doctor, the centuries it will take to make the calculations will have passed.
Back in the present, a UNIT agent realizes that the figures from the paintings are hiding in the gallery and are revealed to be Zygons, who copy her. Kate Stewart brings Clara to the Black Archive of dangerous alien tech held by UNIT, which has devices to wipe the memory of it's staff every single day to protect it. Kate shows Clara Captain Jack's old vortex manipulator and receives a picture of the coordinates the Doctor had carved into the wall. The Zygon replacements show up, and Kate is revealed to be one as well. Clara takes the vortex manipulator and goes back to save the Doctors. As they prepare to disintegrate the door, Clara opens it, revealing that it was unlocked.
Elizabeth arrives, to take them to the Zygons lair to show them their plan. She reveals that the Zygons lost their planet in the Time War and want to invade Earth, but arrived when it was too primitive. They plan to store themselves in the paintings using stasis cubes and emerge when the Earth is more advanced.
The Doctors return to the present where the human Kate and other UNIT agents have gone to the Black Archive to deal with the Zygons. Kate threatens to detonate an explosive device there to stop the Zygons, which would also destroy London. To negotiate peace the Doctors activate the memory wipe devices, making everybody unable to remember if they are human or Zygon so that they can work out a fair treaty without knowing which side they are on.
Having seen his future selves deal with these problems *because* they regret destroying Gallifrey, he asks the Moment to take him back to do it himself. The Tenth and Eleventh Doctors arrive in their TARDISes and say that he shouldn't have to make the horrible choice alone and that they will do it with him. Clara begs them to find another way and reminds him that he named himself the Doctor to save lives. The Eleventh Doctor has an idea and disables the moment.
The Doctors position their TARDISes around Gallifrey, and retroactively start calculating how to freeze it in time. Just like the Zygons with the painting, they freeze Gallifrey in a moment in time, making it appear to the universe that it was destroyed, while the vanishing planet causes the Daleks to destroy each other in the crossfire. Gallifrey is saved and the Tenth and War Doctors leave in their TARDISes, knowing that due to their timelines being tangled with their future self they won't be able to remember this encounter, and will still think they destroyed Gallifrey.
The Doctor looks at the painting of Gallifrey while Clara waits in the TARDIS, and the gallery curator, who looks like the Fourth Doctor, informs him that Gallifrey survived. The Doctor, excited, goes off to find Gallifrey.

122: The Woman Who Lived - Season 9, Episode 6: The Doctor visits the immortal Ashildr, who now goes by Lady Me, having forgotten her original name over the centuries. She still has the limits of human memory, so she has a massive library of diaries. She begs the Doctor to take her with him, but he refuses. She does convince him to help her with a robbery she's staging, an alien jewel from a rich couple. Her and an alien accomplice of hers plan to use the jewel to open a portal so they can escape from Earth. Once obtained, the alien opens the portal to allow his species to invade the Earth. While initially dismissive of normal human life compared to her own, Me finds that she still cares when the aliens begin their attack and begs for the Doctors help. He closes the portal and Me decides to remain on Earth, to look after the people that the Doctor abandons.

The companion Doctor
This Doctor Who meta was written way back in 2017. I’m publishing it on tumblr for Moffat Appreciation Day 2022, but it covers the entire time period between 2005 and 2016.
The companion as a Doctor figure has been a theme which Doctor Who has been fascinated with at least since Rose Tyler first appeared on our screens in 2005. One by one, every companion since then, from Rose Tyler to Clara Oswald, has come step into the role in some way or other, allowed to move in and out of the spaces on the show the Doctor inhabits.
For the entirety of the RTD and Moffat eras, the companion is treated as the main character. The show itself might be called “Doctor Who”, but the pilot of the 2005 revival is named “Rose”. Retroactively, it becomes tempting to read it as a kind of answer to the implied question of the show’s title.
After all, Rose does not merely travel the universe with the Doctor, soon throwing herself into danger in a way that equals the Doctor. By the time Rose returns in series 4, she becomes the clearest mirror image of the Doctor for quite some time. A traveler across universes, on a mission to save the world, with what might be a plan or what might be a ridiculous, untested idea.
Within the space of the same series, two more companions inhabit the Doctor role in ways which could not be more strikingly different. There is Donna, who literally merges with him, to combine her own extraordinary qualities with the abilities of his impossible mind. The DoctorDonna, as the songs have called her and will call her further on.
And, not to be forgotten, Martha Jones, mirroring one of the Doctor’s darkest days. Where Rose is the adventurous figure, where Donna exemplifies the power of his mind (ultimately tragically so), Martha’s journey with the Osterhagen Key calls to mind another soldier, another warrior, with a weapon that could destroy their own people and the Dalek’s plan alike. And she is, after all, quite literally a doctor.
By comparison, Amy’s story draws much softer, but not less meaningful parrallels. She, too, ultimately ends up as a seasoned traveler of time and space, but it’s much earlier in her story when Amy and the Doctor intersect in the most moving ways, in their shared loneliness and her desire to escape the weight of adulthood. Amy is running away in a TARDIS, just as much as the Doctor is. Even if she will, at some point, stop.
After all these different variations upon the same theme. it is Clara who brings the tale of the companion Doctor to its  conclusion. She truly gets to conquer the central myth of the show, to steal a TARDIS and run away. Though her death is just a final heartbeat away, we know her adventures will be infinite, its own kind of immortality. She even gets her own companion out of the deal.
Her Doctorness is not merely a sign of character growth or tragedy, or a stepping stone towards a different future she gets to shape, it’s a true, final triumph. For her, it’s on to Galifrey, the long way round. For the companion the future will tell, what kind of stories will be told.
Note: This was written before Bill first appeared on the show. I have some thoughts about how how later episodes relate to this topic, but they are less well-ordered. Maybe that supports my past impression that this is, in a way, one story told, that started in Rose and ended in Hell Bent. And what a story it was.

Do you guys remember this ask? Well, I found a Bachelortte simulator. While it's in no way going to top the one I wrote I thought it would be fun to see what it spit out for me. AND it includes more players than my original post! Let's see what it comes up with for me:
Night One
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I would never hurt your Ross baby.
Everyone knows how good Freddie looks in a suit.
Tony does seem like the sweet guy that would write a poem!
Flattery will only get you so far Timo - but like don't stop.
Tyler, WTF?
No introduction is needed, Wilson, we know you.
Who were you yelling at before the show to lose your voice, Matty?
Don't need to brag Sid.
OMG such a Pat thing to do LOL
Roman, with butterflies? Damn.
We found who Matty was fighting with, Nico.
Are we going to do this handshake forever now? Yup. Count on it.
Everyone loves magic, right?
Weird way to get the first impression rose, but like Chris would totally rock the look.
Willy being a good singer would not surprise me one bit.
Adam gonna make me blush.
Vince is lucky he's cute.
Picking a weird time to want to boost your socials Andrei. Because we all out here looking for some more off-season content.
You know Vladdy was blushing the entire time.
Barzy, getting shy? So cute!
Most of the rose ceremony checks out. But like sending Anthony, Brady, Josh and Matt home on the same night? Unbelievable. Those men are too damn fine.
Week One
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tyler and Chris out here looking out for me
Tony, don't think like that. You know your sweetness can just sneak up on someone and make them fall for you. It's only happened so many times with The Road Wife, it can happen again
Leave it to one of the most attractive men in hockey to come in and steal the first kiss of the show - no one could say no to Josi
Tkachuk upset about not getting enough attention -> confides in someone -> gives the rose to the person he confides in. Such a bitch move LOL
1 on 1 date with Ross? Yes, please. Horseback riding would be a gong show.
TJ, my first hockey love. Would be such a humbling date.
Such a good-looking group of guys to watch go.
Week Two
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As if I'd ever tell you that, Chris.
Roman really out here stealing a lot of my attention. But like, have you seen him?
You guys are really interested in this one question, huh?
Cuddles with Ross? Say less. He should have gotten the rose.
You got a problem with my boy, Vladdy? Jokes on you, he gets the rose.
Thank you, Timo that was needed.
See I told you, Tony!
1 on 1 with Vince. These dates are winning. And such a serious topic! And he's humble!
Damn. What was this version of celly thinking? Sending home Adam, Brayden and Nico all in one go!? Delusional.
Week Three
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Andrei, doing sweet precious things? Consider me swooning.
Pretty boy comforting pretty boy.
Cocky and Confident, TJ. Love it.
What is it with me giving roses to the guys that are getting bullied by the other contestants LOL
VLADDY IS PRECIOUS AND I WILL ALWAYS LOVE HIM.
Why would producers let me take Chris on a nature hike when Jeremy was still in the show. Like com'on horrible planning on their part.
Tony deserved better.
Week Four
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Timo would 100% not be afraid of PDA in front of literally anyone
Are we sure Vice and I were just cuddling under that blanket?
Chris doing a backflip would be hella impressive
There it is, Wilson, being typical Wilson
I am really bad at giving the boys the attention they want
Why the fuck would I let Andrei make fun of Vladdy!? And then send Vladdy home!? My heart hurts.
Week Five
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Let's be real, I'd be out there kissing all of them
You got a problem with Ross? Rose for Ross then LOL
Tom is obviously not too sad about it - he ships it
Should have gotten rid of him when he made fun of Vladdy!
Week 6
Tumblr media
It was Shania Twain - has to be if Vince is getting the rose because you know he's having a good time
the crowd is getting thin, but maybe spend the time trying to win my heart boys
OOOF no wonder he's such fuck boy. Still not over that breakup.
AND CHRIS TOO? What are the chances?
Week Seven - Hometowns
Tumblr media
A trip to Denmark would be incredible. So many sights to see and it would be such a cool experience to travel there with him. It seems like it would be a nice and intimate time with Freddie and his family.
He's such a family guy, it's undeniable.
An understandable situation. I've only been prospecting like 30 guys over the last few episodes. I'd be cold towards me too LOL
We come full circle to night one. I'd never hurt you, Ross. You're too pretty to be hurt by someone like me.
Week Eight - One on One Dates
Tumblr media
I was on tv before this? Damn, I'm going to need to know how that happened.
I can confirm I'd be in love with at least 2 of the final 4 LOL So yes, I'd be very confused
👀
It took you until the final 4 to freak about the other guys? Couldn't have done this in week 1 when there were like 20 other guys to compete with?
Week Nine - Fantasy Suites
Tumblr media
Oh you know it happened
You mean we didn't just have our fun in the hot tub?
ALL THIS TALK ABOUT NOT WANTING TO GET HURT AND NOW YOU HURT ME? I was rooting for you, Ross!
And it brings us to the final two. My 1st hockey love TJ Oshie - the very reason I write hockey rpf and my newest hockey love Vince Dunn. Kind of poetic, isn't it?
The Finale
Tumblr media
DAMN, this would make my heart hurt. You know Vince is on the verge of tears while reading that letter. It would not be an easy decision to reject his proposal... and you know... at the reunion special... might be one of those I chose the wrong guy situations LOL Because it was all adding up to look like it was going to be Vince before that moment.

Because I can’t get enough Tentoo and Rose: for the ask 20, 22, and 30.
Oh boy do i know that feeling!
20. What clothes/accessories do they steal from each other?
I love the idea of rose wearing his coat! (once he gets one in Pete’s world). I don’t think he’d consider it stealing though; he loves to see her in his clothing 🤭 also just like. every item of clothing he owns because she can’t get enough of his scent 🥰 ughhh I’m just picturing them out late at night and she begins to feel sort of chill and he just wraps his coat around her 😩 THINGS WE SHOULDVE SEEN ON THE SHOW!
22. How do they apologize after arguments?
I think a big part of their relationship in Pete’s world is being honest with each other—if they want to truly make this work, and this is their one shot to do it, things can’t be left unsaid anymore. So I’d imagine they sit down and have those uncomfortable conversations about what exactly’s bothering them and how they can work together to fix it! Maybe they grab chips after. And then sex of course. Lots of it👌🏻
30. Free space! Say something about this ship that you want to say!
Sometimes I think about how rtd says rose completes the doctor and then I think about how he has a family again and he’s a father again and I go crazy ❤️ no one is loved like rose tyler is loved ❤️

Hiya!! 4 and 14 for the ask game? :D
Hiii bestie! :) I am answering this now (when I am tipsy) because I had a busy homework day on Sunday.
4. Who's wardrobe would you like to steal?
I think that I already dress similarly to Capaldi!Doctor/Twelfth Doctor, especially during the wintertime. Just tons of plaid trousers and ratty old sweaters and hoodies. And I dress like Rose Tyler on casual days. So I could share wardrobes with them.
However, I think that I might like to steal Martin!Doctor/ The Fugitive Doctor's wardrobe or Dhawan!Master's.
I'm not really sure why, but I love The Fugitive Doctor's outfit. I might have some sensory issues with the tuffy ruffles of her shirt because I don't know material it's made out of, but I love the look of her vibrant shirt covered by the TARDIS-like blue of her suit.
And The Master is The Master. They are always classy. I saw your post praxeus-13 with this number, and I totally agree with you! Dhawan!Master's outfit gives me gender envy! I want to look as good as he does!
But, also, I want all of The Doctor's and The Master's coats! I need them!
And (finally as a drunk note) I just wish that I looked good in ties, bowties, suspenders, etc. I don't think I do, which makes me sad, but I always looked to The Doctor and The Master as the pinnacle of fashion and my genderfluid self wants to look like those genderfluid alien.
14. What's a song or piece of writing that you associate with a character/story arc/relationship on the show?
I love looking through soundtracks for any form of media; it's one of my favourite things to do when I become invested in a new show/movie/etc. So, I definitely find myself listening to songs from Doctor Who in my day-to-day life. Rasputin by Bony M, Voodoo Child by Rogue Traders, I Can't Decide by The Scissor Sisters, Chances by Athlete, etc.
I listen to Skyfall by Adele a lot when thinking about Spyfall parts 1 and 2.
And I think of Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy by Douglas Adams when I think of Tennant!Doctor/Tenth Doctor because of episode The Christmas Invasion.
Now a list of my random maladaptive daydream song choices -
Where Did The Time Go? by Dr. Dog - Travelling with The Doctor or Master
Ruler of Everything by Tally Hall - Master vibes
Problem by Mother Mother - The Master x their love interest
Arms Tonight by Mother Mother - That one scene from Last of The Time Lords where The Master died in The Doctor's arms
As The World Falls Down by David Bowie - The Master seducing their lover
Cold Cold Cold by Cage the Elephant - This song reminded me of Vincent Van Gogh, but also my own struggles with depression and anxiety
Spillways by Ghost - This song reminds me of all the trauma both The Doctor and The Master faced at the hands of Gallifreyan Elders, but this song is also the inspiration for a fic/maybe fic series I am making about The Reader being the Timeless Child (thanks to a very kind anon)
And finally (I have more if anyone is interested) Sunflower, Vol 6 by Harry Styles reminds me of Vincent Van Gogh

One of them works a flower shop and has a crush on the attractive stranger that comes in once a week to get a surprise bouquet as decoration for his apartment. Worker is too shy/nervous to ask the attractive stranger for a date so he puts together kind of love-confession kind of bouquets for him every week, expecting him to not know.
Turns out a friend/acquaintance of the stranger knows flower language and mentions it to stranger.
(Stranger/Worker cuz it could go either way; Blurry could also show up maybe idk)
ah yes the classic florist au... ok so crazy thing, I'm actually uniquely skilled in answering this type of idea since I'm a trained florist and have a lot of experience with both the language of flowers and experience working with them lol
though I know generally in these aus it's probably Tyler who's the florist, baby boy has (self-admitted) soft delicate hands and would not be up to the task of holding together spiralised stems and making 50+ arrangements in one day lmao; So self indulgently, I think I'd put Josh as the florist and Tyler as the cute stranger.
Also Josh strikes me as the romantic Type who would try to flirt with a ridiculously oblivious Tyler through a language that he absolutely would have no clue of reading. Disasters, both of them.
Perhaps in this universe, Tyler has just moved in across the street. His house is very bare except for perhaps a futon and a table, so it's pretty empty and dreary... But he notices the flower shop directly across from his window, and so he resolves to trot down and take a look.
Josh works there part time, while also working on music on the side; This job is pretty hard work, but he enjoys it because it's still creative and working with natural materials is always wonderful... Despite it always being so cold.
Tyler walks in that morning, still in the same clothes he's worn for a few days since all his stuff is still being shipped to him; He looks like a scruffy mess. Most stores would take one look at him and assume he's there to steal stuff, but Josh isn't the judgemental sort, and greets him in a pleasant friendly way!
Tyler kind of stares at him from under his hat, googly eyed. He has literally no idea what to get or how to ask, so he just sort of waves hello, and stumbles through asking for a bunch of flowers.
Josh tries to help him, by asking a few questions, like where he wants it, what he needs it for... if it's for anyone special. Tyler would kinda balk at that.
He'd say himself, then realise oh shoot that sounded self-aggrandizing, then tries to explain it's not that he thinks he's special or something... which Josh kinda smiles at, and says he looks pretty special to him.
Tyler's spirit almost leaves his body because he's so humiliated... But he does thank Josh, and say he seems pretty special too.
After that, they'd probably just get to talking, Tyler would explain he just moved in across the street, Josh would tell him about all the fun things to do around there...
though Tyler feels like he's fumbling, Josh is kinda starting to form a little crush on him. He's cute, he's funny... And they've really clicked in just one conversation.
Since Tyler has absolutely no idea what he wants, Josh assures him he'll whip him up something perfect for his new home.
Josh probably makes him these gorgeous, intricate hand tied bouquets; Wild and nature inspired, starting at first with a few pink roses scattered amongst delicate asparagus fern and the curves of a few sprigs of twisted willow; It's a pretty overt hint that he's kinda into him.
Once he hands the bouquet over, he offers it on the house, and, in a moment of courage, writes his phone number down on one of the tiny message cards, and tucks it into the bouquet. Telling Tyler to call him, since he's new in town and may not know anybody else yet.
Tyler seems pretty happy, relieved he hadn't messed up socialising with the first person he's spoken to in this town; He gratefully thanks him, and takes the bouquet and the card... Completely oblivious that Josh is flirting with him. Just thinking that this dude is super nice wow!
They say their goodbyes, and Tyler toddles off home carrying his huge bouquet... And Josh flops face first onto the countertop, realising he's immediately started crushing on this new guy.
*Bonus: Twin brother Blurry that's moved in with Tyler as his roommate, who's more world-wise than Tyler, immediately recognises the symbolism of pink roses and asparagus fern. He does not tell him.

HI hi hi ask games guilt & torture and appearance 16 for even :333
What is your OC guilty about? How do they handle their guilt? Do they try to avoid guilt, or do they accept it?
Even is soooo guilt avoidant. Even needs things to not be their fault or they'll die. (Which is. A lot of their life really hasn't been in their control, and part of this is that it is genuinely hard for them to tell when a fuck-up is their own or something they literally couldn't have stopped. And then the choice becomes either taking the guilt of all of it or trying not to feel like any of it was their fault.) But the big thing I rotate in my head constantly is that Even voluntarily chose to leave the Doctor to look after Donna & Tentoo &... less so Rose, because Rose can look after herself, but they were supposed to be there with Rose, you know? And the stress of that, the feeling that if the Doctor were there he'd figure out a way to fix things (despite him. not being there. and not fixing anything.), is what pushes them towards going to worse and worse places looking for solutions for the whole metacrisis issue. You know, you start with showing up on Sarah Jane's doorstep looking for help and you end with stealing classified UNIT info and getting involved with an alien healing device and a little bastard of a time lord and then being so paralyzed by the idea that the Doctor will hate you, hate you more than anyone you've ever seen him hate, for helping put this into motion and putting people in danger and putting him in danger that. well. the big old closing wound in time where the other time lords popped off to seems like the better option.
and then even can either live with having chosen all of that. forever. and having abandoned the people they were supposed to stay by and keep safe. forever. (<- guy who could go home with their time machine anytime but can't, because what if they shut the door in their face. and also it would be kind of awkward to drag missy back to the tyler-nobles' for tea.) OR. they can decide along the way and with the master's encouragement, that this is easier to place at the doctor's feet and blame him for it happening.
Has your OC ever been tortured? Would your OC ever torture anyone?
As far as I know, Even has never tortured anyone. There's an argument to be made, considering they're completely onboard with the 'cybermanning the dead' plan, that they were complicit in torture, in a sense. (Though, they would not view it that way. The idea of the cybermen to them is like. a terrifying ideal. They don't have to hurt, ever. They can turn it all off.)
Has Even been tortured? i mean what else is putting up with the doctor & the master's bullshit daily-
Is your character's appearance more telling or deceiving?
I think the most telling part of Even's appearance is how much it shifts to incorporate parts of the people close to them. There are their own quirks that remain steady, like they will always choose darker, more plain colors over brighter/vibrant ones, and if left to their own devices, they'll go for simpler clothes with nicer textures, but they have zero sense of what regular dress should look like and take most of their cues from the people around them. The Doctor is the reason they think sneakers are acceptable formal wear, they spent many a day before time travel shenanigans with Donna playing historical dress-up with her, and particularly, they just sort of. let the Master dress them. (And they keep these with them, of course, but who they're closest with in the moment is who has the greatest influence on how they're clothed.)

Doctor Who (Wait, didn't we already cover this?)
[All images are owned by the BBC. Please don’t sue or EXTERMINATE! me]
Tumblr media
Now, I know some of you are wondering if this is a RERUN because I already reviewed the show. That’s not entirely true. You see, most fans differentiate between the series (and TV movie) that featured the first eight Doctors (“Classic Who”) and what came after (“New Who”) In my original review, I covered Classic Who, as New Who was (and is) still airing, but I feel that these newer Doctors deserve their time in my spotlight (plus I would like to review some of the newer episodes, and I don’t review episodes to series I haven’t already reviewed)
Now as a rule I don’t review series that are still releasing new content, mainly due to fear of being contradicted by episodes that haven’t yet aired. However, I’ve broken that rule before. Also, I’m expecting to have to update this review eventually to cover newer Doctors as their tenures come to an end.
Now, on with the review!
When William Hartnell left Doctor Who, to be replaced by Patrick Troughton, in 1966, many fans thought that was the end of the series. I mean, how can you replace the title character with another actor? Surprisingly, instead the show continued to be a success, and when each subsequent Doctor regenerated, fans were a mixed bag of dread (due to their Doctor leaving) and anticipation (due to wondering how this would change the tone of the show). However, that came to an end in 1989 when the BBC cancelled Doctor Who.
However, fans were given new hope when the TV movie/pilot aired in 1996. However, a new series wasn’t picked up and fans were sure this was actually the end.
However (again) the BBC announced a new Doctor Who series to debut in 2005! Fans were once again a mixed bag. Was this a reboot or a continuation? Would Paul McGann return as the eighth Doctor or would we get a new Doctor (and would it be a rebooted first or the ninth)? Would we see the villains and allies we’ve seen in the past? What would a decade of advances in special effects do for the look and feel of the series (and will they actually get a special effects budget this time)?
Tumblr media
These questions were answered when Christopher Eccleston burst on the scene as a Doctor fresh from his regeneration to deal with the latest threat facing Earth. This Doctor was intense and haunted by the fact that he was the last of the Time Lords (the rest were destroyed, along with the Daleks, to stop a Time War between the two sides that threatened to destroy the universe)
Tumblr media
His companion for his entire tenure was Rose Tyler (played by UK pop star Billie Piper) There was definite romantic tension between the two as they traveled together.
Of course, as we all know, every major threat in Doctor Who is never finished “Once And For All”, so we see that the Daleks survived!
youtube
(Thanks to CyberTARDIS)
…and 21st century effects showed them to be the threat they were meant to be!
(Of course the Daleks weren’t the only threats to return, but the others would have to wait until later)
However, there was one other major addition to the series during the Ninth Doctor’s tenure…
Tumblr media
Jack Harkness, an immortal scoundrel, befriends the Doctor and Rose. Eventually he returns to modern London and joins the alien defense group (and spin-off show) known as Torchwood.
However, due to conflicts behind the scenes, Eccleston only stayed on for one season (making his tenure as the Doctor the shortest if you count the nine years between the TV movie and New Who as McGann’s tenure) and he regenerated into…
Tumblr media
David Tennant, who brought his brand of manic energy to the character. He would also bring back the rest of the Doctor’s old foes…
Tumblr media
The Cybermen
Tumblr media
The Sontarans
Tumblr media
…and the Master (who’s no longer trying to look like Roger Delgado), as well as a new threat…
Tumblr media
The Weeping Angels, who “steal” time (sending their victims to the past) with a touch, but can’t move when observed.
But he would also bring back an old friend…
Tumblr media
Sarah Jane Smith (played by Elisabeth Sladen reprising her iconic role), who would get a second chance at a spin-off series in The Sarah Jane Adventures, which she would star in until her death in 2011.
He would also introduce a new recurring character in her final appearance (time travel…gotta love it!)
Tumblr media
River Song (who keeps a diary so she knows which Doctor is which when) Though she meets her end (SPOILERS!) when the Doctor first meets her, she is a recurring character throughout the rest of the series.
Eventually, Tennant’s time comes to an end and he regenerates into…
Tumblr media
Matt Smith (the youngest to play the Doctor to date), who ironically played the Doctor as an old man (he is over a millennium old, after all!) trying to connect with his younger companions…
youtube
(Thanks to Will TThe Ghost)
…and feels the weight of the universe and all he done for (and to) it on his shoulders.
With a new Doctor comes a new threat to the Universe to join the Daleks and the rest of the lot…
Tumblr media
The Silence, who make can their victims forget they exist (and work with the Weeping Angels)
However, we would see the introduction of one of his “past selves”...
Tumblr media
…played by John Hurt (though technically he’s the ninth Doctor and regenerated into Eccleston, the fans do not give him his “proper” designation and simply call him “The War Doctor” as he existed only during the Time War)
This makes the “eleventh” Doctor the twelfth (and final, as Time Lords only have 12 bodies) However, the Universe couldn’t bear to be without the Doctor, so…
youtube
(Thanks to Doctor Who)
Thus was the twelfth Doctor (thirteenth if you count the War Doctor, which most fans don’t) brought into the universe
Tumblr media
…played by Peter Capaldi (tied for the oldest actor to play the Doctor with Willam Hartnell). This Doctor was very much the Grumpy Old Man who was mean and sarcastic to pretty much everyone (even moreso than he usually is)
In addition to the Usual Band Of Threats, this Doctor faced a number of minor threats from previous incarnations that returned stronger than before, as well as a new version of…
Tumblr media
…the Master (or “Missy” as she calls herself), which sets the precedent that Time Lords are gender fluid. Which was important, as when Capaldi’s time ended he regenerated into…
Tumblr media
…Jodie Whittaker. This Doctor was a lot more empathic than her predecessors (the closest being the fifth) and called her first companions her “Fam” (short for family)
Unfortunately, hers was the one that was the worst received (primarily due to the Gatekeepers of the fandom, but also her writing was a bit erratic at times), and her time eventually ended…
youtube
(Thanks to BBC)
Yes, the fourteenth Doctor regenerated to a previous body!
Now, the fifteenth Doctor will have been announced and revealed by the time this review is uploaded, but that’ll be for another time (as I haven’t seen the fourteenth's tenure yet! Will he have the same manic energy or will Tennant bring something new to the table?)
As always, if you would like to see an episode reviewed, let me know. For now, I leave you with a non-canon Doctor Who episode filmed for the British charity Comic Relief courtesy of TJ DW. You may recognize who’s playing the Doctor…

Chapter 23
So how long had Benedikt been lingering outside the alley, listening to their conversation?
Chapter 23 summary: Juliette’s grand plan is to use his sister as bait. Once Roma comes looking for Alisa, Juliette tries to tell him that there’s a mole in the whites, and she thinks that it’s the blackmailer. And then they delve into their shitty personal feelings, which it’s already been determined that I don’t give a hoot about. This quickly leads to them getting into a physical altercation, with Roma being the shittiest person that you can even imagine. Which… hey. If I didn’t care about their feelings, I can’t even begin to tell you how little I care about this.
But then Juliette gets badly hurt. Roma orders Alisa to go to xyz safehouse to get medical supplies. Alisa insists that Juliette needs to go to the hospital, but as Roma points out, it wouldn’t look good for either of them, no matter which hospital they end up at. He tends to her, proving that he doesn’t hate her as much as he keeps insisting.
As he does this, Juliette tells him that the whites have been infested with communists. Except Roma doesn’t believe her, since the whites are as anti-commie as anybody. Which is kind of besides the point right now… IT’S WHY THEY’RE A FUCKING SECRET SECT. She goes on to say that she’ll hand over the Scarlet notes and everything, even though she doesn’t have permission to do so. You’d think he’d jump at the chance, but whatever. She insists that this is helping everybody, and that the cure shouldn’t simply be for the scarlets, and stopped by greed. He finally agrees after he finishes patching her up.
Alisa then says that Juliette needs to go, since there’s some Russians coming over. Before she leaves, she makes plans to meet up with him later to get him the stuff.
After she leaves, Roma gets angry, but it’s more of a frustration than anything. He says that they should have stayed in the other city, because it was so quiet there. He misses that quiet. He muses for a while that he wishes that he’d been born to anybody else.
As they leave, they realize Ben had been standing there, listening to their conversation.
Chapter 24
She wanted to guess that Rosalind was just being spiteful, that Rosalind thought it unfair Juliette could collaborate with Roma without consequence while she had to sneak around with her lover.
Exactly what part of this doesn’t look like Juliette is sneaking around with Roma? Because Juliette had to stage a kidnapping in order to talk to Roma. JFC I’m done with the shitty drama for the sake of drama in this book.
“Do you not remember Lourens’s serum? In all this time, I have half expected one of you to realize the truth. Marshall Seo is alive.”
Chapter 24 summary: The chapter starts by reminding the readers that work conditions sucked for the common folk in the 1920’s. I don’t fucking care.
Marshal watches as Ben runs around the city, doing errands for the gang. This serves literally no point whatsoever.
Juliette meanwhile goes to her clandestine meeting with Roma to help him “steal” the scarlet’s research. She says that they have to wait for Kathleen to show up and distract Tyler. That he’s been living in the apartments there, paranoid that the whites would try to steal their research. Which is fair, considering what’s about to happen. Juliette explains that they intend to put it into the local water supply so that everybody can get it at once. But only into the water around the scarlet territory, and nothing more As I keep saying, because they’re shitty people who don’t care about the suffering of others. She goes on to say that those who seek immunity must pledge their loyalty to the scarlets; this was all Tyler’s idea. (Although, what’s to stop them from simply drinking from the well in scarlet territory? Literally nothing.)
Rose randomly shows up, and is angry at Juliette working with Roma. Despite the fact that she herself admitted not even two days earlier that she had a boyfriend in the whites. Juliette tries to tell herself that Rose is simply jealous, but I’m not buying it. Rose quickly leaves after that, proving that the author only introduced her in the scene simply for the sake of padding and causing unnecessary drama.
After that, Juliette leaves to distract Tyler, and Kathleen and Roma start talking about the feud. She talks about stopping it, but like… she does realize that she’s talking to the guy whose first response was “Oh no, despite the fact that I was with Juliette for the past two days, I’m going to blame her for the death of this child!”? The entire thing is so stupid and unnecessary. Juliette then starts to yell at Tyler upstairs, so the two of them break into the lab and take the papers.
They run out of there, but Kathleen stays behind to distract Tyler, whom Juliette had tied up. Why is she so fucking STUPID?! WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU DO THAT?!
But as Juliette and Roma run, they’re set upon by Ben, who is bitter and angry, and another part of the feud problem. After knocking Roma out, Ben then points a gun at Juliette. She blurts out that Marshall is still alive.

Chapter Four: At Last
The Doctor looked at Lee as the TARDIS spun slowly in the Vortex. “I’ve got the coordinates all set. Are you ready to see Donna again?”
Lee nodded. “Please.”
The Doctor flipped the lever, and the time rotor moved up and down with its typical grinding, wheezing sound. Lee shook his head, amazement etched across his features. He studied the TARDIS like someone who’d heard about them all his life and couldn’t believe he was finally seeing one.
“Just n-never thought I would be inside a TARDIS,” he explained when Rose looked at him questioningly.
Rose reached out and patted the central column. “Put on a good show for him, dear.”
The TARDIS lights flashed, and they spun through time and space at a dizzying speed. The ship landed hard enough to send them all to the grating. Everyone laughed, no one harder than Lee.
The Doctor jumped up and brushed himself off. “Let’s go see what Donna and Jenny are up to,” he said, jogging up the ramp.
Rose’s phone chimed, and the Doctor had a sinking feeling he knew what the incoming message said. He waited for Rose to read it, and her sigh confirmed his fears.
“Oi, Sunshine. When we said a week, we meant an Earth week, as in seven days. You’re late.”
“Oh… this is bad.” The Doctor ran his hand through his hair. He could already feel the bleach burning his scalp.
“What’s wrong?” Lee asked.
“We landed a day later than we promised to meet Jenny and Donna,” Rose said as she typed out the text and hit send. She looked up in time to see Lee smile and shake his head. “What?”
“Just imaging Donna’s reaction.”
oOoOo
Donna was in the middle of telling Jenny exactly what she planned to say to the Doctor when her phone chimed with a text notification.
“Oh, that better be them,” she muttered as she fished it out of her purse.
Sorry we’re late, Rose said. We brought something for you.
Donna snorted. “If they think some little rinky-dink souvenir is going to make me forget they actually did strand us, they need to think again.” She picked up her bag and tossed a note on the table to cover the bill. “Come on, Jenny.”
They could see the TARDIS from the edge of the park, and Donna unconsciously picked up her pace. At the moment, she couldn’t tell if she were more eager to be home, or to give the Doctor a piece of her mind. Either way, she was glad to see the TARDIS.
When they were about ten feet away, the Doctor stuck his head out of the TARDIS. “Are you coming?” he asked.
Donna stopped and put her hand on her hip. “Oi, don’t get shirty with me, Spaceman,” she told him. “What did I tell you about not leaving us stranded in Barcelona? You’re just lucky the hotel had a vacancy so we could keep our room for another night—and lucky Jenny was positive you would only be a day or two late.”
An amused chuckle cut off Donna’s tirade, and she whirled around to tell the innocent bystander exactly where he could put his busybody nose.
But the sight of a familiar face drew her up short. “Lee!” she gasped. Then she put her hands over her mouth, for once in her life completely speechless.
“Hello, D- D- Donna.”
The stuttering broke through her shock, and she ran to him, reaching out to touch his face, his hair, anything just to convince herself he was really there.
Her hands finally settled on his shoulders, and she clung to him just as she had in their last moments together in the Library. “Oh God, oh God. Is this real?”
“You’re real,” Lee said, holding her just as desperately. “I hoped you were real.”
“I found you. I promised I’d find you, and I did. I found you.”
Donna pulled back and cupped his face between her hands. “But… how? And where?”
“I got t- t- trapped,” he explained. “Between worlds.”
“When we activated the transmat at the Library, the Reality Bomb was in full effect,” the Doctor explained.
Donna tore her gaze away from Lee to pay attention to his explanation.
“And Lee’s transmat beam, unfortunately, got caught in the Void—the space between the universes. He was literally stuck in a crack between worlds. Somehow, the crack opened up in the bedroom of a little girl in 1996, which was where we found Lee.”
A shiver ran down Donna’s spine. “I thought you said all of that was repairing itself. Closing back up like it had never happened.”
The Doctor tugged on his ear. “Strictly speaking, it didn’t happen. Not in this timeline. Mickey and Pete and Jackie were only able to hop through because Pete’s World ran ahead of ours, and things hadn’t yet—”
“I asked about Lee, not the whole bloody universe.”
He cleared his throat. “Right. Sorry. Welllll… the crack was closing when we found Lee. But he’s here now!” he said quickly, before she could react.
Donna pulled Lee into a hug. “I can’t believe I came so close to losing you,” she whispered. His hand stroked her hair, and she had to swallow back tears. “I spent so long looking for you…”
Rose caught Jenny’s eye and gestured towards the park. Taking the Doctor’s hand, she pulled him towards the trees, trusting their daughter to follow.
oOoOo
Lee closed his eyes and rested his head on top of Donna’s. Her whispered confession eased one concern he’d had—that what they’d had in the Library had all been a lie.
Up until then, he’d felt a bit like he was on a first date, sweaty palms and all. But now… “I was sent to the Library to find out what happened. Instead I found you.”
Donna stepped back half a step and looked up at him. “What do you mean, you were sent?”
He lowered his voice and leaned in. “I’m a Time Agent,” he told her quietly.
“You mean Rose was right?” Donna exclaimed.
Lee chuckled. “Yes, she was.” He frowned. “I apparently spent 100 years in the Library’s mainframe, and I still don’t know what happened.”
Donna smiled and took his hand. “Well I can answer that,” she said. “Come on, let’s go for a walk.”
“We were supposed to have a quiet day in,” Donna started. “I was painting my toes, Jenny was reading, and Rose was painting. Then the Doctor came in and told us to get ready to go…”
Lee listened raptly to the tale, from the message on the psychic paper to the surprise strangers arriving in the Library to the lights suddenly going out.
He sucked in a breath when Donna repeated the Doctor’s warning. “Count the shadows.”
“Vashta Nerada,” he breathed.
Donna rolled her eyes. “Of course you’ve heard of them.” She sighed. “Am I always going to be the only one who doesn’t know things?”
Lee blinked at her. This insecurity… It hadn’t been there in the Library. But maybe the program of the computer had given her the confidence she apparently lacked. It had certainly made other changes, like making his stutter even worse than it was in reality.
Donna took a breath and continued the story. “So, one of the crew was taken. Eaten, I guess. And as soon as the Doctor knew how big of a threat it was, he wanted to send me and Jenny back to the TARDIS to be safe. He dragged us into the little shop, with the transmat pad by the door.”
Lee nodded. That was when their story began, then.
oOoOo
The Doctor wrapped his arm around Rose’s shoulder as they walked the paths in the park. They’d taken off in the opposite direction of Donna and Lee, with Jenny walking beside them, telling them all about their week long holiday.
The Doctor held Rose close as he thought about the other couple and wondered how things were going for them. He remembered how devastated Donna had been when she’d gotten back from the pocket universe in the Library computer. She’d had the life she’d always wanted, but it had been fake.
Hopefully Lee can make it real this time, Rose said, following his train of thought.
He hummed in agreement. I hope so. I just… He took a moment to soak in everything they had—each other, their bond, their daughter walking with them. Donna deserves all of this, too.
Rose stretched up and kissed him on the cheek. “You’re very sweet sometimes,” she whispered.
Her phone beeped before he could reply. Rose checked the text, but all three of them had turned back towards the TARDIS as soon as they heard the chime, guessing what the message was.
oOoOo
Rose smiled when she caught sight of the couple. They were sitting across from each other at a picnic table, holding hands.
It looks like Donna’s worries that the real Lee might not care about her didn’t come true.
The Doctor hummed. Yep. Oh, I’m glad.
Donna saw them first and she jumped up. “About time you got back here,” she snarked. “Although I shouldn’t be surprised you’re late… don’t think I’ve forgotten you were a whole day late getting here.” She gestured at the Doctor’s head. “Nice platinum blonde, I think.”
“But… you…” The Doctor gestured vaguely between Donna and Lee. “I had a good reason for being late! And aren’t you glad the TARDIS took us to Leadworth to find him?”
Donna’s teasing expression faded to happiness. “Yeah. All right, you’re off the hook this time, Spaceman. But next time…” She raised an eyebrow meaningfully.
“So, are we ready to go back to Cardiff?” Jenny asked. “I bet Gran is wondering where we are.”
Rose rolled her eyes. “Mum will find something to mutter about, no matter when we arrive. But, as long as we don’t need to make any stops first…”
She looked at Donna and Lee. “You’re certainly welcome to come with us, Lee. We have a few friends who might be very interested to meet you, actually. I understand if you aren’t up for meeting a whole group of new people today, though. We could drop you and Donna off somewhere and come back after the party, if you’d rather.”
Lee shook his head. “I’ll come with you.”
“Excellent!” The Doctor, still worried about his hair, darted to the TARDIS and unlocked the door. “Come on them, what are we waiting for?”
“I was going to say that your mother-in-law’s anger at you missing the party would be punishment enough, but you’ll just natter on about how this is a time machine.” Donna pursed her lips. “And you’ll be able to get us back in time without her even knowing we were almost late. It’s almost not fair.”
“Jackie’s stubborn refusal to grasp the basics of time travel can be frustrating, but it does have its advantages,” the Doctor agreed.
oOoOo
The Doctor watched his little entourage as he and Rose flew the TARDIS back to Cardiff. Donna was watching Lee like she thought he was going to disappear again, and he had her hand clasped firmly in his own.
Jenny sat on the jump seat, watching the two of them. The Doctor tilted his head and studied his daughter. There was something… off in the way she was holding herself.
Let’s take Jenny for a trip on her own as soon as we can, he suggested to Rose.
Rose turned slightly to watch Jenny for a moment, and then she nodded.
Their landing was soft, and Rose led the way to the top of the ramp. “Time to visit family,” she told everyone. “Lee… I know you agreed to come, but  please don’t feel like you need to spend time with my mum. I love her, but she can be… a lot.”
Lee smiled reassuringly. “I’m pretty sure I’ve met people more difficult than your mum, Rose.”
“I wouldn’t bet on it,” the Doctor muttered under his breath.
Rose glared at him, and he smiled unrepentantly back. They both knew that the faux antagonistic vibe between him and Jackie was all for show… Well, mostly.
“All right,” he said, gesturing for them all to leave the ship. “If we don’t get out there now, she’ll be banging on the door wondering why we’re staying in this box.”
Rose opened the door and started laughing when she saw her mum halfway to them.
“Well, what are you waiting for?” Jackie said. “I don’t know why you’d want to stay in that box when the party is inside.”
Rose stepped outside and moved aside so everyone else could exit the TARDIS. Jackie’s eyes lit on Lee, and Rose nodded. “Donna brought a plus one, if that’s okay.”
Jackie smiled. “Of course! Now come on, the party is nearly started.” She turned and led the way back to the front door.
A car pulled into the drive as they were walking inside, and Rose raised her eyebrows when she realised that Martha and Mickey had arrived together. The Doctor had told her about the timelines he had noticed, but she hadn’t really given it much thought.
The two groups met at the front door and entered the house together. “It’s about time you all got here,” Jack called from the living room. “I was starting…”
His voice trailed off when he caught sight of Lee. “Well hello,” he said. “Jack Harkness, and you are…”
“Not interested,” Donna said firmly. “This is Lee. Lee McAvoy. We met at the Library.”
Rose covered her mouth with her hand to hide her smile at Donna’s clever wording, but to her surprise, Jack’s gaze sharpened.
“Lee McAvoy? At the Library?” he said, emphasising the article.
Donna looked back and forth between the two men. “Oh right,” she said after a minute. “Jack used to be a Time Agent, too.”
“Yeah, and I remember hearing about an agent who was lost in the whole quarantine of the Library.” He looked at the Doctor. “You know, I actually wondered about Lee here when you told us you’d been to the Library. But I assumed if you didn’t mention him that you hadn’t met.”
He looked at Donna, then at her hand clasped in Lee’s. “I guess I was asking the wrong person,” he said, waggling his eyebrows.
“Jaaaaack,” the Doctor said, exasperated.
“You know, I’ve heard of Jack Harkness, too,” Lee interjected.
Jack leaned forward. “Oh yeah? The tales of my greatness go before me?”
Lee shook his head soberly, bur Rose noticed a glimmer in his eyes. “N-no. The tales of your…” He opened and closed his mouth a few times. “Of your nakedness.”
The whole group burst into laughter. “He’s got you there, Captain Cheesecake,” Mickey said, pounding the man on the back.
“Why are you naked in all the stories, Mr. Jack?” a very young voice asked.
Rose bit her lip and looked down at her little brother, who had snuck into the room when no one had noticed. Oh dear, she thought, looking at the unamused expression on her mum’s face.
“Oh really?” Jackie said as she picked up Tony. “What kind of stories have you been telling my little boy, Harkness?”
She ignored Jack’s incoherent sputtering and wheeled on Pete. “And you, Mister. We’ll be talking about you taking Tony with you to work.” She swept out of the room, and everyone let out collective breath.
“I see what you mean, Rose,” Lee offered, and the tension broke into laughter.
Jenny slipped away from the group, making her way to the kitchen. Pete was pulling dishes out of the cupboards. “Can I help set the table?” she said, guessing what he was up to.
“Of course.”
They each picked up a stack of dishes and carried them into the dining room. As they laid plates around the table, Jenny felt her granddad watching her.
“Jackie tells me Donna brought a plus one tonight,” he said after a few minutes.
Jenny’s hand clenched around the knives she held. “Yeah. Lee McAvoy. They were married in a parallel universe, and we’ve been trying to find him.”
Pete nodded; he understood different universes and different lives better than anyone. “I’m glad Donna was able to find him. She’s seemed a little sad this summer.”
Jenny sighed. Donna had been sad, which made her own upset that much more selfish. “Yeah,” she said quietly.
They finished setting the table, and then Jenny followed Pete back into the kitchen. “Of course,” he said, “Lee joining your group changes the dynamics a bit, doesn’t it?”
Jenny bit her lip, then let everything she was feeling spill out. “Yeah. Mum and Dad, and Donna and Lee. And then me. Just Jenny. I’m the fifth wheel.”
She dropped onto a bench and slouched. “I don’t fit anymore.”
Pete held out a hand and pulled her to her feet. “Then you have to find a way to make yourself fit,” he said firmly. “Come on; dinner is just about ready.”
oOoOo
After supper had been cleared from the table, the Doctor clapped his hands. “All right everyone, may I have your attention!”
“Oh, we’d better listen to him, or he’ll find a way to blow up the dining room or something,” Jackie said sardonically. Everyone else laughed.
The Doctor rolled his eyes. “If you’re done taking the mick—”
“Never,” Mickey said.
“Then maybe,” he continued, raising his voice a little, “you’d like to hear my new safety resolution.”
“Oh, for—” Jackie took a large gulp of her wine. “I’m going to regret this, but let’s hear it.”
“Thank you, Jackie.” Finally, everyone quieted and gave him their full attention. “All of you have travelled with us at one time or another, and most of you have had the… let’s say the misfortune of being stranded.”
Mickey nodded. “On a spaceship in eighteenth century France.”
“Quite right, Mickey Smith. And now, we’re all going our separate ways, to a certain extent. Some of us are in Cardiff,” he gestured at Pete and Jack, “Some in London,” Mickey and Martha, “And some of you might not even live in this time.” This to Lee. “And since we all seem to find trouble more easily than most, I’d like to offer… let’s call it a safety button.”
“What are you thinking, Doctor?” Martha asked. “Project Indigo was completely dismantled by UNIT when the Earth was put back where it belonged.”
Jack held up the wrist that had his vortex manipulator. “I’ve got my own safety button.”
Lee reached into his back pocket and pulled out an identical device. “Me t-t-too.”
“Where did you get that?” Donna exclaimed.
Lee pointed at himself. “T-t-t…” He paused and took a breath. “Time Agent,” he said, forcing the words out.
The Doctor interrupted before Donna insisted on a full history of where he’d been hiding his Vortex Manipulator this whole time. “Excellent, the two of you are covered then. But for the rest of you, what I’m about to suggest is the next best thing.”
The soft murmur of conversation around the table stopped and everyone looked at him. The Doctor nodded and launched into his explanation.
“The TARDIS and I have been working on a little project.” He reached into his pocket and pulled out ten thin pieces of wire. “These are homing beacons. I’ll just install these in your mobile phones under the battery. If you’re ever in trouble and need us to come get you, just press and hold 9 and it’ll activate the beacon.”
“I hate to admit it,” Jackie said, “but that’s actually a good idea.”
Everyone around the table nodded and pulled their phones out. The Doctor rolled his eyes at Jackie, but went to work on installing the homing beacons onto all of the phones, working down the line.
The last phone on the table was a plastic toy mobile. He looked down at his young brother-in-law, staring up at him with all the seriousness a three-year-old could muster. “I wanna be able to call you too, Doctor.”
The Doctor ruffled the boy’s hair. “Absolutely, Tony Tyler.” He picked up the toy and pointed the sonic screwdriver at it, letting the sound fill the room for a few seconds before he stopped. Then he handed the toy back to Tony.
“There you go. One Tony Tyler homing beacon, ready to go.”
The nanny, who had been waiting at the doorway, came in and held her hand out. “Come on, Tony, you got to talk to the Doctor like you wanted. It’s time for your bath now.”
“Night, Doctor! Night Rosie!”
“Oh, I don’t warrant a good night,” Jackie said, but the Doctor was fairly certain she sounded less irritated than usual.
Sally, the housekeeper, brought out coffee and tea and placed them on the sidebar. Jackie smiled and thanked her, then looked at the group.
“As long as we’re all making announcements, I’ve got one of my own. You’re all invited to our place for Christmas. We’ve got plenty of room for all of you, if we pull out the couches.”
Mickey and Martha both started shaking their heads. “We can’t get that long off,” Mickey said. “We’ll be doing good to get out here for dinner and back to London before we’re expected to be at work the next day.”
“Oh, come on,” Jackie wheedled. “It won’t be the same without you.”
The Doctor got an idea, and after gaining Rose’s approval, he spoke up. “There is a way we could have a holiday house party and still get everyone to work on time the next day.”
“How’s that, boss?”
Martha got it immediately, though. “If we leave the current timeline for the week, right Doctor?”
He nodded. “We could take everyone off-world for a holiday trip. Pick you all up on the 23rd, say, and then bring you back the next morning. Not only do you get a few days’ holiday, you’ll still have Christmas Day at home to catch up on laundry or whatever.”
“I’m not spending our first Christmas together in a hotel on some strange alien planet,” Jackie protested.
“But we could rent a house,” Rose told her. “You could do all the grocery shopping and bring everything with you, and then you’d still get to host the party just like you wanted.”
Jackie pursed her lips. “You’ll help him find a house?” she pressed.
The Doctor rolled his eyes, but he kept his mouth shut.
“Yeah, I’ll help him.”
Jackie looked around at everyone. “Are you all okay with this?”
Mickey nodded. “It’ll be nice to get away for more than a day,” he said. “UNIT has been working us hard for the last few months, trying to clean up the mess left by the Daleks.”
“All right then,” Jackie conceded. “We’ll go away for the holiday.” She pointed at the Doctor. “But we better not end up on the planet Zhoz.”
“I’ll have you know—”
Jackie waved him off. “Come on, everyone. Get yourself a cuppa and let’s go sit down in the living room.”
oOoOo
Rose took her cuppa and went to an over-stuffed armchair tucked slightly away from the rest of the seating arrangement. She tucked her legs up underneath herself and watched her family.
Jack and Lee were swapping stories from the Time Agency. Donna was sitting pressed against Lee’s side, and every once in a  while she’d interject with a story of her own from traveling on the TARDIS. Rose loved to see her newfound confidence—a year ago, she wouldn’t have felt like she had anything to add to a conversation like that.
A naked streak interrupted her observations. Rose jumped up when she realised the streak was her little brother, dripping wet from his bath. He shrieked with laughter as he darted through the living room.
“Oh, Lord,” Jackie muttered.
“I’ve got him, Mum,” Rose told her as she took chase.
It wasn’t hard to track the little boy. If the puddles of water hadn’t given him away, the constant giggling would have. She caught up with him just before he opened the back door to run out into the garden.
“Oh no you don’t, mister,” she said, scooping him up. “Come on, time to go to bed.”
She waved at Pete and Jenny, who were trying not to laugh. “And apologise to Dad for interrupting him and Jenny,” she instructed.
“Sorry, Daddy!” Tony shouted.
“You’re forgiven, Tiger.” Pete stood up and kissed Tony on the forehead. “Now be nice to Anna. She’s getting her exercise in today.”
The winded nanny smiled tiredly. “Thank you, Mr. Tyler.” She took Tony from Rose. “Come on, young man. It’s bed time for all streaking toddlers.”
“What’s streaking?” Tony asked as they left the room.
As soon as he was out of earshot, Rose, Pete, and Jenny burst out laughing.
When Rose reentered the living room, Jack was leaning back on the couch, a gleeful smirk on his face. “And now I’m not the only one with a naked story.”
