One of my favorite things about a day of fallen night is how the mage being sent to Inys thing was started because of Tunuva's and Esbar's desire to protect their grandchild, which in turn led to Sabran and Ead meeting. Their love was possible thanks to another sapphic couple in another lifetime that's so fucking sweet I'm gonna eat drywall.

bardholt and sabran vi's deaths is without a doubt one of the best scenes in adofn. two symbols of the monarchy being consumed by fire in seconds, proving that they're not untouchable like they believe they are. mere hours before bardholt was talking about taking the south and forcing them to convert to the six virtues the way he converted the north, making plans to force the entire world into virtudom. when they saw the wyrm they stood tall and proud and didn't try to run but they still burned because they're not actually special, and sabran's blood means nothing. they've always thought so highly of themselves because sabran is the blood of the saint, but in the end their saint didn't protect them, their blood didn't protect them.
this is also a great parallel to when sabran ix faces fýredel in priory, believing the saint will protect her from the fire, except that the only reason she didn't burn was because ead protected her with magic. but there was no mage guarding the queen of inys yet.

Some Priory and Adofn sketches of Eadaz, Sabran IX, Tané and Glorian Shieldheart :)
I’ve been sketching a bit to get their faces right, so I can draw more elaborate pieces. On another note I reread both books in the span of a week bc summer break so the brainrot is fresh and here to stay lmao

Sabran IX: when I have a child she will be the most important person in the queendom and everyone will just care about her and not love me anymore :(
Glorian III: when I have a child she will be the most important person in the queendom and everyone will just care about her which means I will be free to endanger myself :D

When history fails to shed light on the truth, myth creates its own.
Eadaz "Ead" du Zala uq-Nāra, Sabran Berethnet and Miduchi Tané from The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon.
i had the wonderful opportunity to visit @sshannonauthor at kinokuniya sydney on the 19th, and it was such a lovely and inspiring time to hear exactly how the world of priory was created and why things existed in it!
to anyone looking for a queer feminist retelling (of st. george and the dragon) with IMMENSELY engaging worldbuilding and characters, i do highly recommend priory!

I just know that through all her years with the Court and then seeing Sabran try to fistfight Fýredel, Ead has wondered if they put dumb garlic in the food and that's what makes the people in Inys so fucking stupid

You remember the first day we walked together. You told me about the lovejay, and how it always knows its partner’s song, even if they have been long apart. My heart knows your song, as yours knows mine. And I will always come back to you.
