The goal is to master Arabic and be better than the Arabs like Imam Bukhari. To be a reference in the language like Imam Shafi’i. To be a scholar in grammar like Al-Asma’ie, roaming the deserts, listening to the bedouins. To master the dialects and communicate with its speakers. To speak in Fusha while teaching "قال الله و قال رسول" .

Imam al Shafi’i رحمه الله remarked: "There is a verse in the Quran that every wrongdoer should be terrified of."
He was asked, “which verse is that?”
He replied: “And your Lord never forgets.”

Imām ash-Shafi’i رحمه الله was asked:
“How does a person have bad thoughts of Allah?”
He replied:
“By [giving into] whispers,
being constantly afraid of a calamity occurring,
and waiting for a blessing to be taken away.”

“Ibn al Qayyim رحمه الله said: “A person should spend an hour before bed for Allah, giving an account of his soul: what loss he suffered today and what income he gained today. Then he should renew repentance in front of Allah and fall asleep in the state of repentance. This should be done every night.”¹︎
Repentance is among the key heart softeners a servant of Allah can resort to when softening their heart and remaking their lives for the better. Sadness and loneliness in the heart is often a direct consequence of the sins a person commits. Remembering Allah, the hereafter, and death are impediments to sinning.
Imam al Shafi’i رحمه الله remarked: “There is a verse in the Quran that every wrongdoer should be terrified of.”
He was asked, “which verse is that?”
He replied: “And your Lord never forgets.” [19:64]”

Imam ash-Shafi’i (rahimahullah) was asked:
What makes a man lose his honour?
Imam Shafi’i رحمة الله replied:
• Talking too much,
• exposing people’s secrets and
• placing his hopes and trust in every single person.

“Humbleness is from the manners of the noble ones and pride is from the characteristics of the vile ones. Humbleness brings about love (of the people for a person) and contentment brings about peace of mind.”- Imam Shafi’i رحمة ألله 🤍 [Siyar 10/99]

Ash-Shāfi’i رحمه الله said:
“The most oppressive to one's own self is the one who
humbles himself to one who doesn't respect him,
desires the love of one who doesn't benefit him,
and accepts the praise of one who doesn't know him.”

There is consensus among Imam Malik, Imam Shafi’i, Imam Abu Hanifah and Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal that visiting the grave of the Prophet ﷺ is recommended.
The Prophet ﷺ said,
“Whoever visits my grave after I die, it is as if he visited me when I was still alive.”
“The one who visits my grave deserves my intercession.”
[Ad-Daraqutni]
“The person, who performs Hajj and then visits my Tomb, will be regarded as though he had seen me in my worldly life.”

When Imam al-Shafi’i, رحمه الله sat in front of Malik and read to him, Malik was impressed by his intelligence, wisdom, and complete understanding. Malik said, “Verily, I see Allah has placed light in your heart, so do not extinguish it with the darkness of disobedience.”
